Like all good things that sell over 1.7 million copies in one month, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is getting a "Game of the Year" edition. This one will hit the PC and all consoles (sans the Nintendo Wii) for a simultaneous release this fall. Just like the PS3 version you can buy in stores now, this "Game of the Year" edition will include the Knights of the Nine expansion. In addition, Bethesda's decided to now include the previously unavailable The Shivering Isles expansion. Thank goodness. We were beginning to wonder if Bethesda actually had any plans to make this one available over the PlayStation Network as previously suggested, being that recent news on that front had gone cold.

The PS3 release of Oblivion came a lot later than its Xbox 360 counterpart, but thankfully, stands as a testament to the PS3's capabilities with improved frame rate, faster loading times and greater draw distance. This version will also be compatible with previous game saves, allowing players to pop the "Game of the Year" disc in and continue their questing right where they left off. Pricing details haven't yet been released for this "Game of the Year" edition, but we speculate if the $59.99 price tag doesn't hold, $69.99 sounds about right. Time will tell. So in case you've been living in a cave with your PS3 and haven't yet experienced the gaming bliss of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or any of its two expansion packs, you can't do any better than picking up the "Game of the Year" edition this fall.

Oblivion gets a Game of the Year release, this fall originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Jul 2007 17:30:00 EST. We're all aware that Oblivion is coming to the PS3 and we'll probably get that one expansion too -- what's it called? Something about Knights of the Nine or whatever. It's probably going to be a downloadable expansion from day one of Oblivion's release. We have to ask because the newest addition, Shivering Isles, has been sweeping up all of the attention.

This new expansion takes you on a quest to take out an entirely different Daedric Prince, this one of "Madness". The size of the Shivering Isles is approximately one quarter that of the land of Oblivion, Cyrodiil. The quest itself? Well, aside from all the random time-wasting crap you can probably do, the main adventure is supposed to clock in around 30 hours. If you're wondering, you can go back and forth between the two lands with your character as you please. Anywho, there's no word on if this will be packaged with the PS3 Oblivion, but it's doubtful. It'll be out not too long after the initial release, though, as the PC and 360 are expecting the expansion sometime this Spring.
PS3's Oblivion to include both expansions? originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 23 Jan 2007 11:00:00 EST. The 800-point download ($10) was released this past Wednesday amidst a flurry of Xbox Live content unleashed during Thanksgiving week.

Knights of the Nine doesn't stray too far from Oblivion's established mechanics. In that sense, if you found the initial offering to be spoiled by repetition, this pint-sized expansion is unlikely to win back your interest. But Knights of the Nine does offer a sizeable questline and some new content (items, Aurorans, etc.) for those that continue to comb the land of Cyrodiil.

[For those keeping score: Eurogamer bestowed an 8/10]
Oblivion Knights of the Nine add-on reviewed originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 27 Nov 2006 19:45:00 EST. The PS3 version has been pushed to the first quarter of 2007.

Bethesda clarified that the Knights of the Nine expansion (built into the PS3 version) will be released for PC on November 21 and includes all previously released downloadable content. Knights of the Nine content will also be offered to Xbox 360 players, via Xbox Live Marketplace, on the same date. But what about Oblivion vets? Is there a reason for us to invest in another version of Bethesda's masterpiece?

As previously revealed, the PS3 edition will include an additional faction, the Knights of the Nine. A new -- and allegedly, exclusive -- questline with focus on restoring the Knights' order, adding a reported 10-20 hours of gameplay. The incentive: you'll gain access to "super-powerful" relics. The catch: if you raise your infamy level you'll be suspended from the faction and those relics will be removed from your possession.

Will this new content motivate you to play well behaved? Will it motivate you to revisit Cyrodiil if you already came, saw, and conquered?
PS3 Oblivion's exclusive quest explained originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Oct 2006 14:55:00 EST.
