"There's a game out there that's better than both [<em>Dragon Age</em>] <em>Origins</em> and <em>DAII</em>, and I'll be damned if the talented folks of the <em>DA</em> team can't find it," BioWare lead designer Mike Laidlaw concluded a recent response to one fan on his company's forums. He was engaged in an ongoing conversation over the past few days in a subject thread titled "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragon-age-2"><em>Dragon Age 2</em></a> reception and community discussed," wherein fans sounded off and a handful of BioWare reps responded to criticisms about the critically divisive <em>Dragon Age 2</em>, and its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/02/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc-review/">improved</a> follow-up DLC, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dragon-age-2,legacy"><em>Legacy</em></a>.<br />
<br />
"<em>Legacy</em>, I think, goes a long way towards demonstrating that we are listening, that we are aware of the weaknesses of <em>DAII</em>, and that we will continue to address them," he responded to another, specifically citing combat encounters, asset re-use, loot, and choice impact as areas to improve. While he of course didn't speak to <em>Dragon Age 3</em>, he did note that "Reasonable, passionate feedback is the best possible thing to provide. Seeing strongly negative reaction to <em>DAII</em>, and strongly positive reaction to <em>Legacy</em>, even from some of <em>DAII</em>'s strongest detractors (and yes, I know it's not universal, but what is), is incredibly useful."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/05/biowares-laidlaw-da2-legacy-dlc-is-a-response-to-fan-complai/">BioWare's Laidlaw: DA2 'Legacy' DLC is a response to fan complaints</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 19:40:00 EST. The mysterious disappearance of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragon-age-2"><em>Dragon Age 2</em></a> from Steam this week, just before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc-due-on-july-26/">launch of the game's latest DLC</a>, is yet <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/crysis-2-ditching-steam-not-an-ea-decision-origin-exclusive-tit/">another thorn</a> in the side of EA's relationship with Valve's Steam digital distribution game service. As many had assumed, the game wasn't removed due to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/ea-takes-on-steam-with-origin-the-only-place-to-download-the-ol/">recent (re)launch</a> of EA's own digital distribution service, Origin, but in fact because <em>DA2</em>'s latest DLC doesn't play nice with the Steam Terms of Service.<br />
<br />
As the DLC -- named "Legacy" -- is delivered via an in-game store, rather than via Steam's own client, the game was removed. "Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content," EA senior VP of global online David DeMartini noted in a statement. He also pointed out that the game is currently available on a variety of other "major download services," from GameStop to Direct2Drive, and that he hopes "to work out an agreement to keep our games on Steam." It's not clear why EA refused to deliver the DLC via Steam's client, but it appears the company won't be changing its stance just yet.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc/">Dragon Age 2 (Legacy DLC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc/#4280416"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/da2screenshot-66-legacybronto-p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc/#4280417"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/da2screenshot-67-legacycarta-p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc/#4280418"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/da2screenshot-68-legacycorypheus-p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc/#4280419"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/da2screenshot-69-legacygenlock-p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc/#4280420"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/da2screenshot-70-legacytrap-p_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/28/dragon-age-2-abducted-from-steam-ea-points-finger-at-restricti/">Dragon Age 2 abducted from Steam, EA points finger at 'restrictive' terms of service as the culprit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jul 2011 16:30:00 EST. If you can't wait until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/23/new-dragon-age-2-dlc-mass-effect-3-demo-playable-at-comic-con/">Comic-Con</a> to see what's coming next for <em>Dragon Age 2 </em>DLC, or if you're one of the people on Earth who can't make it to Comic-Con (most of 'em), you can get an early glimpse of the future now, thanks to <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/dragon-age-2/achievements/">Xbox360Achievements</a>.<br />
<br />
The site has posted a list of achievements for the "Legacy" DLC, which we suppose could constitute spoilers for content nobody knew about. Judging by the Achievements, you'll be spending the majority of this episode in the Vimmark Mountains. Do those sound removed enough from the city of Kirkwall?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/24/dragon-age-2-legacy-dlc-achievements-spotted/">Dragon Age 2 'Legacy' DLC Achievements spotted</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 16:50:00 EST. Last Friday, a blog entry at Capcom Unity (<a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2009/10/0/updated_psn_umd_legacy_capcom_titles_release_dates">that was mysteriously pulled</a>) revealed the names and dates for a number of "UMD Legacy" titles for re-release on the PlayStation Store:<br />
<ul>
    <li>October 8: <em>Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Dark Tower</em></li>
    <li>October 15: <em>Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max </em></li>
    <li>October 22: <em>Capcom Puzzle World </em></li>
    <li>October 29: <em>Maverick Hunter X </em></li>
    <li>November 5: <em>Megaman Powered Up</em></li>
</ul>
This list completes the lineup of <em>un-</em>UMD'd games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/capcom-reveals-list-of-psp-and-ps1-games-coming-to-psn/">promised</a> three months ago (and tosses in <em>Capcom Puzzle World </em> for good measure). While Capcom has neglected to price any of these titles, previously released Legacy games are currently $19.99 each on the PlayStation Store. Unsure of the veracity of the pulled info, we confirmed with Capcom's Chris Kramer, who told us that the "titles are correct and the dates should be fairly accurate," though he did admit that it's "hard to pin down digital release dates almost until they happen."<br /> <br /> Still unaccounted for? Those PS1 old-timers you've been waiting <em>forever</em> to buy again: <em>Dino Crisis, Resident Evil 2 </em>and <em>Resident Evil 3</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/capcom-dates-promised-psp-umd-legacy-titles/">Capcom dates promised PSP UMD Legacy titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 20:00:00 EST. <p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="">Welcome to our weekly feature, </span><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vo"><span style="">Virtually Overlooked</span></a><span style="">, wherein we talk about games that aren't on the Virtual Console yet, but should be. Call it a </span><em><span style="">retro-speculative.</span></em></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/virtually-overlooked-boku-dracula-kun/">Last week</a>, I asked for reader suggestions for this week's Virtually Overlooked. One reader suggested <em>The Guardian Legend</em>, and I thought that was a perfectly reasonable suggestion. <em>The Guardian Legend </em>was one of the biggest sleeper hits of the NES era, and something that is definitely worth checking out, especially for fans of <em>Ys</em> and <em>Faxanadu</em>.<br /><br />It was only later that I realized that I was thinking of <em>Legacy of the Wizard.</em> I get those two mixed up a lot. They both fall into that "sleeper" category, they were both published by Br&oslash;derbund, and they both have "Leg" in the title. They're practically the same game, except that one's a hybrid vertical shooter/<em>Zelda</em>-style adventure developed by Compile, and the other is a side-scrolling action RPG from Nihon Falcom. But other than that, <em>the same game.<br /><br /></em>Inspired by my inability to keep two similar things separate, I thought this week we could look at some more NES games I get confused about, either because they're so similar or because I'm so dumb. </p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/virtually-overlooked-special-a-bunch-of-nes-games-i-get-mixed-u/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Virtually Overlooked Special: A bunch of NES games I get mixed up with each other</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/virtually-overlooked-special-a-bunch-of-nes-games-i-get-mixed-u/">Virtually Overlooked Special: A bunch of NES games I get mixed up with each other</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 May 2007 16:40:00 EST. They range from 40 to 91 on <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/startreklegacy?q=star%20trek%20legacy">Metacritic</a> and the game averages 67% on <a href="http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/931493.asp?q=star%20trek%20legacy">Game Rankings</a>. Bad reviews focus on difficult controls and repetitive gameplay, while good reviews mention the epic battles and storyline. Naturally, <em>Star Trek</em> fans will probably find the most to like about this title. Or will they? Two new trailers for the game have appeared on Marketplace, and we were unimpressed. It's not that the game doesn't look decent, it's just that it really doesn't seem to fit the <em>Trek</em> universe. We put the game in our rental queue just to make sure, but it seems like basing a <em>Star Trek</em> game entirely on space combat isn't really a good idea. <a href="http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-bya1.htm">By and large</a>, people watch <em>Star Trek</em> for the stories and characters, not epic space battles. Sure, <em>Star Trek</em> has its share of battles, but it's not <em>Star Wars</em>. Most of the fun <em>Trek</em> games we <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_25th_Anniversary_%28computer_game%29">remember</a> (PC and 16-bit era) involved controlling the characters themselves, essentially enacting new episodes of the show. These missions were often punctuated by space battles, but battle was never the sole purpose of the game.<br /><br />Have any of you played <em>Legacy</em> yet? Is it good, or should we regret putting it in our queue?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/04/star-trek-legacy-goes-the-wrong-way/">Star Trek: Legacy goes the wrong way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Jan 2007 11:30:00 EST.
