Our Xbox-toting brethren at <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/05/26/list-of-potentially-de-listed-arcade-titles/">360 Fanboy recently came across a list of Xbox Live Arcade titles</a> which may be up for expungement in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/underperforming-xbla-titles-to-be-delisted/">Microsoft's spring cleaning of their online store</a>. The list (available after the break) includes all titles that fulfill the first and second criteria of Microsoft's new standards -- that is, they've been available for six months, and currently hold a 65 percent or lower average score on Metacritic. A steady conversion rate (the number of people who purchase the complete title after downloading the demo, a figure only Microsoft has access to) is the only thing standing between these games and a date with the delete button -- so if you've been holding out on downloading <em>Shrek-N-Roll</em>, you may want to pick it up in an expedient manner.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/26/download-now-or-forever-hold-your-points-potential-delisted-xb/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Download now, or forever hold your points: Potential delisted Xbox Live Arcade titles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/26/download-now-or-forever-hold-your-points-potential-delisted-xb/">Download now, or forever hold your points: Potential delisted Xbox Live Arcade titles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 May 2008 12:30:00 EST. However, the reasoning behind the cut is not as cut-and-dry as "M$ jus wants moar money" -- according to <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2008/02/xbla_royalty_rate_changes_clos.php">a recent GameSetWatch report</a>, a number of factors led to the royalty shrinkage.<br /><br />
<div align="left">After a bit of <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=9l12IQe98vE">Michael Clayton</a>-esque fact finding, they discovered that the cut only affects first-party indie developers (that is, devs that publish their games directly through Microsoft's XBLA department), and while the returns from their product will indeed be half their original value, Microsoft will now cover many of the fees that the developer must address before their product can be sold -- such as ESRB certification, and localization. Ultimately, this means that their games will cost less to produce, but make less after retail -- slightly better than a flat-out cut, but not much consolation to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramen">Ramen-fueled</a> indie developer. <br /><br /><br /></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/24/gamesetwatch-breaks-down-xbla-royalties-cut/">GameSetWatch breaks down XBLA royalties cut</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Feb 2008 19:00:00 EST. The suit claims the damages suffered from the outages exceed $5 million.<br /><br />While <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/08/halo-3-class-action-lawsuit-rewards-money-to-those-hurt-by-lack/">we usually scoff</a> at class action lawsuits for seemingly petty reasons, the plaintiffs have an excellent point -- Microsoft must have expected an influx of server-taxing Xbox Live subscribers around the holidays, yet they "failed to provide adequate access and service to Xbox Live and its subscribers." The ball appears to be in your court, Microsoft -- that better be <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2008/01/03/xbox-live-holiday-performance.aspx">one hell of a free arcade game</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/05/microsoft-faces-class-action-lawsuit-due-to-xbox-live-outages/">Microsoft faces class action lawsuit due to Xbox Live outages</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Jan 2008 17:30:00 EST. Fill out a short <a href="https://reg.msgamestudios.com/default.aspx?site=xbox360design&amp;locale=en-us&amp;lc=1033">registration form</a> and enter code "XBX0807" to qualify. However, the site is cagey about which games you'll get. The <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/wheretobuy/xbox360termsandconditions.htm">terms and conditions</a> state that you'll receive an email code by September 30 to download the titles, but the offer "will be for games selected by Microsoft."<br /><br />360 fence-sitters still have until September 15 to buy the console and net the games. And the promotion includes buyers as far back as August 8, 2006. The wording sounds like Live account renewals don't qualify, but we still registered. <strike>We've contacted Microsoft for clarification but hadn't heard specifics when this post went live. We'll update you when we learn more.</strike><br /><br />[Update: Microsoft told us it hasn't announced which games you'll get and also stated that the promotion is for new Live accounts only. So officially at least, Live renewals get no love.]<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://dealnews.com/deals/How-to-get-two-free-Xbox-Live-Arcade-games/182894.html">Dealnews</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/17/recent-360-and-live-buyers-get-two-free-xbla-games/">Recent 360 and Live buyers get two free XBLA games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Aug 2007 16:45:00 EST. Both <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/07/11/arcade-golden-axe-and-sonic-the-hedgehog.aspx">cost</a> a mere 400 Microsoft Points, with <em>Golden Axe</em> allowing for co-operative play on Live and locally. The Achievements for both titles were made <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/sonic-golden-axe-achievements-ga-this-week/">available</a> yesterday, and led us to believe that at the very least, <em>GA</em> was coming today. Fortunately, we were only half right, as <em>Sonic</em> finally made its debut under the Sega Vintage Collection line of titles. Given that the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/usk-rates-bungies-marathon-for-360/">rated</a> by the USK and subsequently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/usk-removes-marathon-2-rating-for-360/">pulled</a> from the USK's database, this should come as no surprise to X3F readers. The brief clip showed off at the press conference revealed improved graphics over its aging PC/Mac counterpart. For those unaware, the <em>Marathon</em> series is something of a spiritual precursor to the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo/">Halo</a></em> series, featuring many similar plot and design elements. First of all, the <a href="http://news.mygamercard.net/2007/07/10/chaos-cockatrices-deliver-sonic-and-golden-axe-achievements/">achievements</a> for both <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SonictheHedgehog/">Sonic the Hedgehog</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GoldenAxe/">Golden Axe</a></em> have been uncovered. This has in turn spurred the <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31768">rumor</a> that Microsoft will unveil<em> Golden Axe</em> as tomorrow's XBLA release. Some are comparing this to last year's surprise release of <em>DOOM</em> during X06. <em>Golden Axe</em> is definitely a classic title, but we were hoping for something a little more exciting, like, say, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Marathon/">Marathon.</a></em> At any rate, we at least have confirmation of one more Sega classic on XBLA. Take that for what it's worth.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31768">Read</a> -- <em>Golden Axe</em> coming this week<br /><a href="http://news.mygamercard.net/2007/07/10/chaos-cockatrices-deliver-sonic-and-golden-axe-achievements/">Read</a> -- <em>Sonic </em>and <em>Golden Axe</em> achievements<br /><br />[Thanks, Scott]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/sonic-golden-axe-achievements-ga-this-week/">Sonic, Golden Axe achievements, GA this week?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jul 2007 17:45:00 EST. Well, to be more precise, it's not <em>published</em> on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> page yet, but it's available for those who know where to look. It's actually been there for some time, but now we have some new reinforcement that the game is on its way to XBLA soon. Yes, the game has been rated by the <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp?titleOrPublisher=bomberman%20live&amp;searchType=title&amp;rating=&amp;ratingsCriteria=&amp;platforms=&amp;platformsCriteria=360&amp;javaScript=0&amp;searchVersion=compact&amp;content=&amp;searchType=title&amp;contentCriteria=&amp;newSearch.x=31&amp;newSearch.">ESRB</a>, so things are looking good. Hawk is <em>full resolution</em>, from <em>Super Street Fighter II HD Remix</em>, of course. Capcom Digital posted that image, complete with an <a href="http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/digital.php/2007/06/29/p349">analysis</a> of how they remaster frames to incorporate the new artwork. They use Sagat's standing Roundhouse as an example. Rey then demonstrated how the art is broken up into tiles, and they use those as a guide for when they're redrawing the frame. This prevents a scenario causing a foot to go through an opponent's head due to a hit detection issues. A good read, and it also shows the <a href="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1153/666066838_7cb92d1e17_o.jpg">comparison shot</a> of T. Hawk, as well as the <a href="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1400/665210371_b3c53252b1_o.jpg">line art</a> for Sagat. Today's Xbox Live Arcade <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/missilecommand">release</a> is <em>Missile Command,</em> the retro crap Atari <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/07/04/arcade-missile-command.aspx">shooter</a> where you fire at ... oncoming missiles. With updated graphics, a new Throttle Monkey gameplay mode, and multiplayer over Xbox Live or locally, this nostalgic classic costs 400 Microsoft Points. Unfortunately, according to the read out at Major's blog, this game is currently unavailable in Japan or Korea, but everyone else is free to check out the trial and see if this oldschool goodness is up their alley.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/04/missile-command-launches-onto-xbla/">Missile Command Launches onto XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jul 2007 09:30:00 EST. Yes, it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/06/atari-games-on-xbla-holiday-titles-confirmed/">prophesied</a> long ago that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/atari">Atari's</a> <em>Missile Command</em> would hit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> <em>some</em> day. That day is this Wednesday. This ain't your grandpa's <em>Missile Command </em>either. Nope, <em>this</em> <em>Missile Command</em> comes with fancy new 3D graphics and updated music. Sure, the primary goal is still to destroy incoming missiles, but now it's in <em>kuh-razy</em> 3D and it has <a href="http://www.achieve360points.com/game/missilecommand/">achievements</a>! The press release informs us that you destroy said missiles in order to defend planet Zardon (not to be confused with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OJxoyNOlnk">Zordon</a>). The game features 2 person multiplayer locally or over Xbox Live and ... um ... well, that's about it. It's <em>Missile Command</em>. Take it or leave it (for 400 points).<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/02/missile-command-arrives-this-week-on-xbla/">Missile Command arrives this week on XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jul 2007 17:15:00 EST. Let's say your game shipped with a horrendous multiplayer bug that prevented many people from connecting to online co-op sessions. Would you fix it? Would you fix it quickly? If you're part of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wanako">Wanako</a> and Sierra Online, and your game is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AssaultHeroes/">Assault Heroes</a></em> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>, then your answer is clearly "no." Yes, <em>Assault Heroes</em> was added to the XBLA library last December and played host to a serious co-op problem, namely that co-op games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/19/assault-heroes-assaulted-with-co-op-issue/">could not be joined</a> by many people. Now, seven months later, a title update for <em>Assault Heroes</em> has finally been <a href="http://www.xblarcade.com/node/786">released</a>. There's only one problem: you can't download it. In a particularly delicious bit of irony, you are greeted with an error message the moment you accept the update prompt. Oy vey.<br />

Let's hope the <em>Assault Heroes</em> team gets their ducks in a row and fixes this problem soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/29/assault-heroes-finally-patched-almost/">Assault Heroes finally patched ... almost</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Jun 2007 12:05:00 EST. They're at it again. Yet another batch of downloadable content (DLC to the kids) for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SoltrioSolitaire/">Soltrio Solitaire</a></em> on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XBLA/">XBLA</a> has hit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveMarketplace/">Xbox Live Marketplace</a>. In fact, it came out <em>yesterday</em>, and we didn't even notice. That's how sneaky it was. The pack includes an entire 10 new solitaire modes, all for a measly 150 points. According to our friends at <a href="http://www.xblarcade.com/node/783">XBLArcade</a> (the sleuths who uncovered this info), the PC version contains dozens of modes, so more DLC for <em>Soltrio Solitaire</em> is a distinct possibility for the future. We're sure that somebody, <em>somewhere</em>, is very excited about this.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/more-sneaky-soltrio-solitaire-dlc/">More Sneaky Soltrio Solitaire DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 14:00:00 EST. Only recently, aided by Nintendo's <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">DS</a> and <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com">Wii</a> juggernauts and download services like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>, have casual games become serious business. Everyone and their dog is stumbling over themselves to create casual games. EA, Eidos, Ubisoft: everyone is doing it. Of course, PopCap has been doing it for a while now. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=26101">Gamesindustry.biz</a> recently sat down to talk with Jason Kapalka, chief creative officer for PopCap games.<br /><br />Speaking to the success of casual games, Kapalka notes that PopCap enjoys nearly a 20% conversion rate on Xbox Live Arcade titles. That's 1 in 5 people who decide to buy a PopCap game -- <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/HeavyWeapon/">Heavy Weapon</a></em>, for example -- after playing the trial version. This is compared to less than 10% rates for the PC and mobile markets. So, yes, casual games can certainly mean big bucks for a smart company.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/popcap-talks-casual-game-design-xbla/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PopCap talks casual game design, XBLA</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/popcap-talks-casual-game-design-xbla/">PopCap talks casual game design, XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 17:45:00 EST. As we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/carcassonne-building-up-to-xbla-this-wednesday/">announced</a> on Monday, today's Xbox Live Arcade <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/27/arcade-carcassonne.aspx">offering</a> is <a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/carcassonnne"><em>Carcassonne</em></a>. For 800 Microsoft Points you can get your hands on some castle building action. It's got 5 player live multiplayer and 4 player local MP, Live Vision camera support, and a nice range of balanced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/carcassonne-achievements-roll-down-the-river/">Achievements</a>. It hopefully will bring a similar crowd as <a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/Catan"><em>Catan</em></a> did, allowing for a more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/catan-makes-for-civility-on-xbox-live/">laid back</a> and social experience, so long as the camera support isn't abused. Hopefully we'll catch you online soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/27/carcassonne-tiles-onto-arcade/">Carcassonne tiles onto Arcade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jun 2007 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> is finally starting to pick up steam and, as a result, more game genres are being represented. We've got fighters, beat 'em ups, puzzle games, arcade classics, board games, and many more. There hasn't been much in the way of turn-based strategy though. That is, there wasn't until <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/BandofBugs/">Band of Bugs</a></em>. Coming to us from <a href="http://www.ninjabee.com">NinjaBee</a>, the same folks who brought us <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CloningClyde/">Cloning Clyde</a></em> and <em>Outpost Kaloki X, Band of Bugs</em> takes the same lighthearted, humorous approach to turn-based strategy. Read on to find out how <em>Band of Bugs</em> fares.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/x3f-hands-on-band-of-bugs/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F hands-on: Band of Bugs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/x3f-hands-on-band-of-bugs/">X3F hands-on: Band of Bugs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 18:30:00 EST. Apparently, putting together a videogame based on a tortilla chip is pushing the envelope for ridiculous ideas, intense experiences notwithstanding. While the idea of getting your Arcade title's concept published on Xbox Live Marketplace is definitely a cool one, the necessity to incorporate some Doritos branding into the gameplay does seem a little <em>cheesy.</em> Do you mind the product placement suggested for submissions to the contest, or do you think the opportunity is too good to complain about such details?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/penny-arcade-questions-doritos-unlock-xbox-contest/">Penny Arcade questions Doritos Unlock Xbox contest</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 08:00:00 EST. Most notable among these are the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a> releases, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/puzzlefighter"><em>Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix</em></a> (E) and <em>Undertow</em> (E10+ oh noes!). Also rated was <em>Dynasty Warriors: Gundam</em>, a title with which we are completely unfamiliar. A quick look around the internet reveals that it's exactly what it sounds like: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/koei-announces-warriors-orochi/">Dynasty Warriors</a></em> with giant mechs instead of human warriors. Also rated was <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/HourofVictory/">Hour of Victory</a></em>, which recently had a (terrible) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/hour-of-victory-demo-ready-for-download/">demo</a> released on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveMarketplace/">Xbox Live Marketplace</a>. We already knew <em>Puzzle Fighter</em> was planned as a July release, but this may mean that <em>Undertow </em>will be coming sooner than we thought. Let's hope so; we can't wait to try out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/23/undertow-underwater-battlefield-in-2d/">underwater <em>Battlefield</em></a>. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamestooge.com/2007/06/22/super-puzzle-fighter-ii-turbo-hd-remix-rated-and-others/">GameStooge</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/undertow-puzzle-fighter-rated-by-esrb/">Undertow, Puzzle Fighter rated by ESRB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jun 2007 17:00:00 EST. <em>Wing Commander Arena</em>'s Achievements have been <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=275"><em>uncovered</em></a> for all fanboys to gaze their eyes upon. It has the Xbox Live Arcade standard of 200 Gamerscore awarded across 12 Achievements. This also is the second Arcade title to be published by Electronic Arts, the first of course being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/boomboomrocket"><em>Boom Boom Rocket</em></a>. The Achievements themselves seem to have a heavier focus on multiplayer than that found in other titles and hopefully will be a lot of fun to unlock should the game be a blast as well. We'd like to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/31/rumor-more-arcade-titles-from-ea/">remind</a> you that the rumor from back in January, and its <a href="http://daking240.com">source</a>, was right. Stay tuned at X3F as we've got some pretty cool <em>Wing Commander</em> news coming down the pipeline.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/wing-commander-achievements-step-into-the-arena/">Wing Commander Achievements step into the Arena</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jun 2007 07:30:00 EST. The game is set to feature the characters from the show depicted as bobblehead dolls. Players will be challenged to complete jobs and pull pranks around the office. Currently, the game is slated to appear on the DS, PSP, and PC. According to <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117967257.html?categoryid=14&amp;cs=1"><em>Variety</em></a>, the game won't be developed for new-gen consoles because of its relative simplicity. <a href="http://www.xblarcade.com/node/753">XBLArcade</a> begs to differ, noting that MumboJumbo's deal includes the option to create the title for Xbox Live Arcade.<br /><br />MumboJumbo recently released <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Luxor2/">Luxor 2</a></em> on XBLA, so they definitely have experience with the platform. Whether or not <em>The Office</em> will actually make an appearance on Live Arcade remains only a rumor at this point.<br /><br />Now, if we could just get <em>The Office</em> to make an appearance on Video Marketplace, we'd <em>really</em> be getting somewhere.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/20/coming-to-xbox-live-arcade-the-office/">Coming to Xbox Live Arcade: The Office?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jun 2007 12:35:00 EST. The interview (part one in a series) focuses on the recent string of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LiveArcade/">Live Arcade</a> titles and the future of XBLA. Readers will recall that Live Arcade only recently began to deliver on the promise of a new game every week. Edery notes that this trend is likely to continue, with the double releases occurring "more often than not." He admits that it's possible we might see the occasional week with no release, though that possibility is "very remote." Edery also takes time to answer questions about Microsoft's portfolio strategy, the possibility of <em>Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 2</em>, casual vs. hardcore, and many other topics. Either we spoke too soon, or Microsoft's ninjas are pretty damned quick. X3F readers will recall that the USK (essentially Germany's version of the ESRB) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/usk-rates-bungies-marathon-for-360/">rated</a> <em>Marathon: Durandal</em> for the Xbox 360 last week. This led us to assume that our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/14/halo-b-day-gift-h3-demo-marathon-arcade/">wild speculation</a> from last November was true, and that <em>Marathon</em> was making its way to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>. Now, it looks like something is amiss. We checked the USK listing during our weekly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fancast/">Fancast</a> recording session on Sunday, and lo and behold, <em>the listing was gone</em> (gasp!). No, really, <a href="http://www.usk.de/64_Pruefdatenbank.htm?s=search&amp;title=marathon&amp;s.x=0&amp;s.y=0&amp;s=search">check for yourself</a>.<br />
<br />
So, here's the question: was the USK hallucinating, or has Microsoft demanded that the USK lower the veil of secrecy on what should have been a top-secret project?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/usk-removes-marathon-2-rating-for-360/">USK removes Marathon 2 rating for 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 17:00:00 EST. NinjaBee Games was kind enough to give out an <a href="http://xbox360achievements.org/achievements.php?gameID=251">exclusive</a> peek at the Achievements for their upcoming Xbox Live Arcade title, <a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/bandofbugs"><em>Band of Bugs</em></a>. Unfortunately, there is no award for tinkering around with the map editor that we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/video-band-of-bugs-map-editor/">showed</a> you video of last week, but all in all it looks pretty evenly spread out. Also, the release of Achievement information only shows how much closer we are to a game's release, especially XBLA titles. Do you expect <em>Band of Bugs</em> to be another hit from NinjaBee?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/band-of-bugs-squashes-out-its-achievements/">Band of Bugs squashes out its Achievements</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jun 2007 09:45:00 EST. We've pored over every morsel that Capcom has doled out and we're always ready for more. Well, today is no different. The Capcom Digital blog has uploaded <a href="http://blogs.capcomusa.com/blogs/digital.php/2007/06/14/how_they_do_it_sf_hd_remix">more images</a> of the upcoming game (in addition to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/spfiihdr-july-release-ftgdmfw/">confirming</a> that <em>Puzzle Fighter</em> is coming next month). The new images detail the steps that go into recreating each original sprite in high definition. Illustrated in the image above, we can see each step. Starting on the left and moving to the right, artists first take the original sprite for reference, then block out the basic shapes in the darkest colors. Next, they add details and some shading. Finally, they add the final details and <em>BAM!</em> you've got an HD sprite. Check out the gallery below for high resolution images of all 4 steps.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/how-to-make-a-hi-def-sfii-sprite/">How to make a hi-def SFII sprite</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 16:15:00 EST. New game content is <a href="http://www.xblarcade.com/node/706">available</a> for the Xbox Live Arcade card game, Soltrio Solitaire. It adds 10 new game modes for the low price of 150 MS Points. Considering the game started out with 18 modes of play at 800 Microsoft Points, that's a pretty dang good price. Then again, you have to remember that it <em>is</em> Solitaire, which may not exactly be up your alley. Either way, the content is there and reasonably priced if you're interested.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/soltrio-solitaire-dlc-flies-under-radar/">Soltrio Solitaire DLC flies under radar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 09:45:00 EST. Retro titles from our "mispent youth", as Peter Moore so elegantly put it, are usually somewhere in the neighbourhood of 15 to 25 years old. Sure, they may get reskinned with some extra pixels per sprite, but the vast majority are the same game they were when they were on early consoles or in cabinets. Should they be treated the same by reviewers as retail games, or should the fact that these are pieces of gaming history give them a little grace? After all, if you don't like retro titles, haven't played the original game, or didn't enjoy the title, you could always <em>not buy it</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/tycho-retro-games-shouldnt-be-reviewed/">Tycho: Retro games shouldn't be reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 23:45:00 EST. To answer the most obvious question: yes, it <em>is</em> <em>Prince of Persia</em>. Feel free to draw as many conclusions from that as you wish. For many people, that alone should be enough information on which to base a purchase (or <span style="font-style: italic;">non</span>-purchase). Whether or not it will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/04/major-xbox-announcement-coming-tomorrow/">go down in gaming history</a> is up for debate. Whatever becomes of <em>Pac-Man CE</em>, right now it's simply a good game. "Sure, it's fun, but what about the price?" you say. Well, we've got you covered. Actually, Gamertag Radio has you covered but we won't be bothered by semantics. The point is that GTR is <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=4374">giving away</a> five copies of <em>Pac-Man CE</em> absolutely free. Head on over for your chance to win. Oh, and did we mention this week's episode features Aaron "this will go down in video game history" Greenberg? Well, it does. Listen to Aaron speak his mind <em>and</em> win free <em>Pac-Man CE</em>. Ninjabeegames uploaded a video to <a href="http://youtube.com/user/ninjabeegames">their</a> YouTube account of the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade title, Band of Bugs. The video showcases the game's map editor, as well as some gameplay near the end. We think this is the first map editor to be included in an Xbox Live Arcade game. Overall it looks to be pretty solid, and will allow for some unique experiences when playing the game online. Do you think a map editor is a good idea, or should creativity be left to the developers? <br />

Spruced up with new moves, new enemies, and speedier gameplay, the classic title is reborn for a new generation of gamers. Old school gamers have nothing to worry about though, it essentially the same game with a few minor tweaks. Even the one hour time limit is still in effect. Should you desire to pick up <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em> for yourself, it will set you back 800 MS Points.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/prince-of-persia-leaps-onto-xbla/">Prince of Persia leaps onto XBLA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jun 2007 09:45:00 EST. Last November, just prior to <em>Halo</em>'s birthday, we (wildly) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/14/halo-b-day-gift-h3-demo-marathon-arcade/">speculated</a> that <em>Marathon</em> might be heading to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/XboxLiveArcade/">Xbox Live Arcade</a>. Obviously, we were incorrect<em> ... then</em>. It seems our precognitive powers were even more potent than we realized, as <em>Marathon</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Bungie/">Bungie</a> classic and spiritual predecessor to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Halo/">Halo</a></em>, has been <a href="http://www.usk.de/64_Pruefdatenbank.htm?s=search&amp;title=marathon&amp;s.x=0&amp;s.y=0&amp;s=search">rated</a> by the USK (Germany's ratings board) for the Xbox 360. To be precise, the entry is for <em>Marathon: Durandal</em>, which is actually <em>Marathon 2</em>. This leaves us to wonder whether the original will make the jump as well. Already our minds are reeling with yet more speculation. Will <em>Marathon: Durandal</em> receive a graphical upgrade? Will we see each game in the series hit Xbox Live Arcade, leading up to the inevitable release of <em>Halo 3</em>? We have no idea, but we hope we'll be hearing more soon.<br />

Speaking to the <em>Official Xbox Magazine</em> podcast, Hudson's Joel Breton revealed that the game will release for 800 MS Points. This isn't exactly surprising, as it's becoming the de facto price for all original XBLA content. Breton also reveals that Hudson plans to release the title in early July. Jokes concerning Independence Day and blowing up your friends ensues. If you'd like to listen to the interview, it occurs at approximately 17:15 during <a href="http://www.oxmpodcast.com/?p=84">episode 68</a> of the KOXM podcast.<br /><br />So, will you pick up <em>Bomberman Live</em> for 800 points?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/bomberman-live-in-early-july-800-points/">Bomberman Live in early July, 800 points</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 18:00:00 EST. While Ubisoft may have spilled the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/ubisoft-prince-of-persia-on-xbla-next-week/">beans</a> in regards to <em>Prince of Persia Classic</em>'s releasing this Wednesday, Microsoft has caught up and officially confirmed that announcement, as well as price point. The updated title, with its snazzy new mazes, traps and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/prince-of-persia-classic-looking-snazzy/">graphical enhancements</a>, is going to run you 800 Microsoft Points. We suppose that could have been expected, but it still may turn a few off from the title. We'll have to wait and see if the demo pulls us in, nostalgic memories notwithstanding. What's your take on the game and price?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/prince-of-persia-classic-hits-xbla-this-wednesday/">Prince of Persia Classic hits XBLA this Wednesday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2007 12:30:00 EST.
