What's the point of applying a score to a game that's old enough to be enrolled in the sixth grade? That's why we invented <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/deja-review">Deja Review</a>: A quick look at the new features and relative agelessness of remade, revived and re-released games. </small></font>
<hr size="2" style="padding-left: 5px; " width="100%" />
<div style="text-align: center; ">
	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/23/deja-review-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/umvc3101304_530x298.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; width: 530px; height: 298px; " /></a></div>
There are certain prerequisites that simply come with being a Capcom fighting game enthusiast. Alongside the need to recognize and understand various fundamentals (mostly in the form of now standardized button combinations), there's also the acceptance that game X will be regularly updated, and largely at the cost of the player.<br />
<br />
Most revisions bring with them various tweaks to the formula, fixes for flaws that were only discovered once the completed game was in the hands of experts on the tournament circuit. Beefier updates add fighters new and old to the fray, while slightly less substantial but nonetheless obligatory cosmetic enhancements fall closer to the realm of shameless nickel and diming.<br />
<br />
Most of Capcom's updates have been no-brainers, but in the case of the not-yet-one-year-old <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>, there is enough cause for trepidation. Could the expanded offerings of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/utlimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> not be added as DLC? More pressing: Is <em>UMvC3</em> worth the $40 price of admission? Not surprisingly, it depends entirely upon how much you loved the first edition.<br />

<br />
Sure, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/starcraft-ii-wings-of-liberty"><em>StarCraft 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/league-of-legends"><em>League of Legends</em></a> make for some excellent spectator e-sporting events, but there's a specific brand of excitement, tension and <em>hype</em> that can only be found at world-class competitive fighting-game tournaments like the <a href="http://canada-cup.ca/">Canada Cup</a>.<br />
<br />
Competitors from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Sweden, Japan and Korea will compete in <em>Street Fighter III: Third Strike</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-4-arcade-edition"><em>Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> (among other titles). The festivities run all day, however the main event (Top 32 for <em>SSF4:AE</em>) starts at 4PM Eastern. Just past the break for the full schedule.<br />

First <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/01/french-soulcalibur-5-match-videos-prove-that-youre-already-unpr/"><em>Soulcalibur 5</em></a>, and now <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>? We don't know what the French have done to get into such good graces with Japan's fighting game developers, but we're going to start taking notes. We want in on some of this pre-release expo-match <em>lovin'</em>.<br />
<br />
While we're out buying cigarettes and complicated foods to up our Frenchness, take a long gander at these 11 <em>UMvC3</em> videos from a recent expo-match event at Paris' Manga Cafe, lovingly captured and uploaded by YouTube user <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/Pharaon92i">Pharaon92i</a> (with permission from Capcom France). Most of the new characters are represented, including the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/13/heres-phoenix-wright-in-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3/">very best new character</a>, so head on through for a look at the many punches you'll be receiving come November 15.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/29/prelude-to-punches-11-gameplay-videos-for-ultimate-marvel-vs-c/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prelude to punches: 11 gameplay videos for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/29/prelude-to-punches-11-gameplay-videos-for-ultimate-marvel-vs-c/">Prelude to punches: 11 gameplay videos for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Oct 2011 13:30:00 EST. Capcom's time-honored tradition of updating its existing fighters proudly marches on, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>'s November 15 release draws ever closer, filling the super meters in our hearts with a palpable anticipation for punches.<br />
<br />
As with any Capcom fighter update, the changes being made to existing characters are just as important as the new characters being introduced, and any fighter worth their salt knows how imperative it is to be prepared for those changes ahead of time. Lucky for you, we've posted <em>UMvC3</em>'s massive Marvel characters change log <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/capcom-releases-ultimate-mvc3-character-change-log-logs-charact/#continued">after the break</a>, so you can start making adjustments to your match-up strategies accordingly.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/22/capcom-releases-ultimate-mvc3-change-log-for-marvel-characters/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom releases Ultimate MvC3 change log for Marvel characters</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/22/capcom-releases-ultimate-mvc3-change-log-for-marvel-characters/">Capcom releases Ultimate MvC3 change log for Marvel characters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Oct 2011 12:30:00 EST. <br />
You may remember the story of Noah Solis, the 8-year-old <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel Vs. Capcom 3</em></a> prodigy that captured the minds and hearts of the gaming community by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/eight-year-old-noah-brings-the-pain-to-pro-players-at-evo-2011/">placing in the top 48 at EVO 2011</a>, destroying dozens of grown men in the process. Noah is more than a media darling, however, and his natural aptitude for <strike>shaming players with years of experience</strike> fighting games hasn't gone unnoticed by the pro set.<br />
<br />
Pro-gaming sponsorship consortium/clothing line/hip-hop label The Travelling Circus has signed Noah on to contribute to two of those three ventures, sponsoring his future fighting endeavors as well as launching a clothing line designed by the prodigy himself. Who knows, if Noah's fashion sense is anything like his fighting style, this kid may end up more <em>Gucci</em> than <em>Gouken</em>. At the moment, no information is available as to when his clothing line will be available, or when his first sponsored match is set to take place, but we have a feeling we'll be hearing about Noah long before next year's EVO.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/27/8-year-old-mvc3-prodigy-noah-solis-lands-fighting-sponsorship-an/">8-year-old MvC3 prodigy Noah Solis lands fighting sponsorship and clothing line</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Aug 2011 21:30:00 EST. A listing has appeared on Amazon France for an unannounced PS Vita version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds">Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</a>. </em>Why does it refer to vanilla <em>MvC3</em> and not the newer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Ultimate MvC3</em></a>, which drops this November? The title could be placeholder, or there could be some big differences between this unconfirmed Vita port and the <em>Ultimate</em> iteration.<br />

We've reached out to Capcom to see what the deal is, so we're filing this one under "doubtful hrmmmm sound" in our extensive rumors database for now.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/amazon-france-marvel-vs-capcom-3-coming-to-vita/">Amazon France: Marvel vs Capcom 3 coming to Vita</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 00:59:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Evo2k">EVO Championship Series</a>, the largest fighting-game tournament in America and one of the largest world-wide, is like most other professional sporting events: watching it <em>live</em> is a big part of what makes it so entertaining. Unlike other pro-sports however, fighting-game tournaments take a heck of a lot of time, and not everyone has a whole weekend to spend watching dudes punch dudes.<br />

For those of you that missed the epic, surprising finals at this year's competition, <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/118/1186217p1.html?RSSwhen2011-08-05_185000&amp;RSSid=1186217&amp;utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ignfeeds%2Fall+%28IGN+Complete%29">IGN</a> has made catching up incredibly easy. Hit the source link for videos of each <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-4-arcade-edition"><em>Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> battle in the Grand Finals; we recommend <em>Justin Wong vs. PR Balrog</em> and <em>Daigo vs. Latif</em> for being the two most wager-destroying fights of the tournament. If you listen closely, you can hear someone losing the deed to their house as PR Balrog perfects Justin Wong.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/06/relive-all-the-punches-with-these-evo-2011-finals-videos/">Relive all the punches with these EVO 2011 finals videos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Aug 2011 21:00:00 EST. This year's <a href="http://evo2k.com/">EVO Championship Series</a> was <em>bonkers</em>, you guys. Not only did MVC legend Justin Wong get <em>perfected </em>into third place during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a> grand finals, but <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daigo_Umehara">The Beast</a> took a bewildering fourth place in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-4-arcade-edition"><em>Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition</em></a>, ending two consecutive years of first-place victories.<br />
<br />
This was also the first EVO ever to feature a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Mortal-Kombat-2011"><em>Mortal Kombat</em></a> game, which is a major victory for both NetherRealm Studios and the <em>MK</em> kommunity. Historically, <em>Mortal Kombat</em> titles have never been considered balanced or polished enough to participate in high-level tournaments, and EVO's seal of approval goes a long way in legitimizing <em>Mortal Kombat</em> in the eyes of the fighting community.<br />
<br />
Check out the highlights reel above for some incredible displays of skill, dedication, and <em>heart</em>, and be sure to peep the full list of winners and finalists <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/evo-2011-results-roundup/#continued">after the break</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/evo-2011-results-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EVO 2011 Results Roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/evo-2011-results-roundup/">EVO 2011 Results Roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 14:30:00 EST. When we were 8, we spent our time playing <em>Street Fighter</em><em> </em>with friends, for fun, or for Pogs if we were feeling feisty. Eight-year-old <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4180q1_OgoA">Noah</a> spends his time viciously defeating grown men in professional <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3 </em></a>tournaments, as shown in the above EVO 2011 video. This year, Noah made it into the top 48 playing Hulk, Sentinel and Wesker, before being <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS_3oy6boxo">knocked out</a> by a much taller and broader player, Chris G. That <em>bully</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/31/eight-year-old-noah-brings-the-pain-to-pro-players-at-evo-2011/">Eight-year-old Noah brings the pain to pro players at EVO 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 31 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. Beyond the trickle of post-launch downloadable content for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a>, Capcom offered little in way of support for the long-awaited Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 fighter. And according to producer Ryota Niitsuma, that was out of his team's hands. "After the release of <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the game was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan," he claimed in a San Diego Comic Con <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/sdcc-interview-niitsuma-on-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-206630.phtml">interview</a>.<br />
<br />
According to Niitsuma, the disastrous events that occurred in Japan not long after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/marvel-vs-capcom-3-launches-on-february-15-2011/">the release of <em>MvC3</em></a> "threw off our whole development schedule." Eventually, a decision was made to release that content on a disc, along with tweaks to the gameplay, a new spectator mode, and other new playable content. Niitsuma characterized the content as "about half and half" between the originally planned DLC and newly developed content for <em>UMvC3</em>.<br />
<br />
Speaking to the subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/20/entire-ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-character-roster-leaks-phoeni/">leak of the entire roster</a> for the upcoming Marvel vs Capcom title, Niitsuma reluctantly accepted the situation. "It's a shame it got out, but that list, those names -- those are the characters we are adding to the game. But this is only a list of characters," he noted. "I think for the fans of our fighting games, that's where the real fun is -- seeing those characters move and act." As for when we'll see that? "Closer to the release date," he said. Unless it leaks out earlier, of course.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/ultimate-mvc3-producer-laments-roster-leak-speaks-to-lack-of-dl/">Ultimate MvC3 producer laments roster leak, speaks to lack of DLC for MvC3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. The artists and writers at Marvel Comics display little inhibition when conjuring up fantastic worlds and alternate dimensions, but even they have a tough time imagining a universe in which you only buy a Capcom fighting game once. According to an unconfirmed report on comics blog <a href="http://thequarterbin.com/2011/07/15/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-mvc3-to-get-12-new-characters-in-budget-re-release/">The Quarter Bin</a>, next week's Comic-Con in San Diego (Earth-616) will host the announcement of "<em>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>."<br />
<br />
We know that <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> producer Ryota Niitsuma will share some news at a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/11/marvel-vs-capcom-3-producer-hosting-panel-at-comic-con/"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> panel</a> on Saturday, and that Marvel Interactive will have its own panel to discuss several upcoming games, along with "some exciting new details about the future of <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>." Since Capcom's unlikely to comment before those panels take place, this rumor is hinged on the singling out of <em>MvC3 </em>over the franchise as a whole. (Another possibility: A PC or portable version of the same game.)<br />
<br />
Still, The Quarter Bin stakes its reputation on the assertion that Capcom will repeat its <em>Super Street Fighter IV</em> strategy and launch <em>Ultimate MvC3</em> at a discounted price ($39.99), with 12 extra characters added to the original roster. We remain skeptical of this rumor -- not only have we been unable to turn up any domain registrations for the title, but the Earth-616 Capcom would surely go for "<em>Penultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>" first.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> As expected, Capcom gave us its standard response. "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 2:</strong> It's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/20/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-lands-in-november-adds-strider-gh/">real</a>.<br />
<br />

Capcom veteran and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel Vs. Capcom 3</em></a> Producer/Director Ryota Niitsuma will be hosting a pannel at this year's Comic-Con, where conventionistas will be the first to take a sneak peek at ... <em>something</em>. <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci11_prog_sat.php">The schedule</a> teases a new reveal of some kind, urging fighting fans to come to the pannel to hear "the fantastic news" about the series.<br />
<br />
What that news may be remains shrouded in mystery for the moment, but true believers can at least look forward to a Q&amp;A session with Niitsuma. Attendees will also have the chance to fight on stage for "fantastic prizes" (in the game, probably). We expect at least one person will be <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0ooMGXTcZw&amp;feature=player_detailpage#t=183s">kicked hundreds and hundreds of times</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/11/marvel-vs-capcom-3-producer-hosting-panel-at-comic-con/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer hosting panel at Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 12:55:00 EST. After being announced (and then unannounced) earlier this year, it looks like the curtain has been officially raised, as <a href="http://www.artasylum.com/blog/2011/06/marvel-vs-capcom-3-making-minimates-for-two-worlds/">Art Asylum</a> has posted a new interview on the upcoming lineup of figures. The article includes plenty of details on the figures and, more importantly, lots of new pictures. We're particularly fond of M. Bison.<br />
<br />
The one we're really waiting to see is M.O.D.O.K., who was apparently pretty hard to fit into the traditional Minimates mold. Unfortunately, he's not coming out until wave 3. Wave 1 arrives this <a href="http://www.artasylum.com/blog/2011/06/4074/">October</a>. Head over to Art Asylum for more images and info.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> As a few commenters pointed out, Bison is actually from a <em>Street Fighter 2</em> line of Minimates (especially considering he's not <em>in Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>.) The new line will feature an updated Chun-li figure, however.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/24/marvel-vs-capcom-3-minimates-articulated-with-new-images/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Minimates articulated with new images</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 01:15:00 EST. Good ol' video games came through for Capcom over the twelve months ending March 31, 2011. The company reported "a history-making milestone" of five million-seller titles in the period, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Monster-Hunter-Portable-3rd"><em>Monster Hunter Freedom 3 </em></a>(4.6 million units shipped) leading the pack. Additionally, <em>Dead Rising 2</em> (2.2M units), <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> (2M units), <em>Super Street Fighter IV</em> (1.6M units) and <em>Lost Planet 2</em> (1.5M units) racked up high shipment numbers, and each surpassed the million-mark in pure sales.<br />
<br />
In all, net sales in Capcom's "Consumer Online Games" division increased 60.8 percent over the previous fiscal year to &yen;70.3 billion (about $873 million). But the sales success of so-called "major titles" wasn't the only contributing factor in Capcom's record bottom line for a fiscal year, which showed a net income increase of 257.6 percent over the previous year to &yen;7.75 billion -- roughly $96.3 million in profit!<br />
<br />
Despite reported losses of &yen;1.45 billion due to restructuring and another &yen;105 million filed under "disaster" -- the Great East Japan Earthquake knocked out ten of Capcom's arcades -- all of the company's business units recorded operating income gains for the year. Notably, the "Mobile Contents" division enjoyed some highlights, with downloads of <em>The Smurfs' Village</em> Facebook game exceeding expectations "by far" and the Japan-only iPhone version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ghost-trick-phantom-detective"><em>Ghost Trick</em></a> faring "well."<br />
<br />
Capcom tempered its jubilation, however, noting that the forecast for the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2012) calls for "lower sales and earnings." The company anticipates "immeasurable economic losses" in Japan due to the earthquake and its aftermath, as well as a "downturn in consumer confidence" in the game industry at large -- not to mention Capcom's weaker offering of AAA titles this year. <em>Dead Rising 2</em> ... <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/dead-rising-2-off-the-record-puts-frank-west-in-chuck-greenes/">again?</a></em><br />
<br />
"We will focus more than ever before on our global operations as the environment surrounding the industry rapidly changes," Capcom said, observing that "the rise of social games [is] fueling the growth of new competitors in the industry."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/06/capcom-profits-soar-with-help-from-record-aaa-game-sales/">Capcom profits soar with help from record AAA game sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 May 2011 11:30:00 EST. Eleven years after <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 2</em>, people are still interested in seeing Ryu getting smashed by the Hulk. Capcom <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e110330.html">announced</a> today that it has shipped two million copies of universe mashup fighter <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</em></a> worldwide. Capcom said that the release of <em>MvC3</em> was "capitalizing on the resurgence of the fighting game boom that began last year" -- you know, the one Capcom started with <em>Street Fighter IV</em>.<br />
<br />
These shipments, the company states, zlxo outpace the performance of<em> Marvel vs. Capcom 2</em>. In fact, that game doesn't appear on Capcom's <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html">list</a> of million-selling titles at all, suggesting that the sequel outperformed it by a great deal.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/marvel-vs-capcom-3-ships-2-million-worldwide/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ships 2 million worldwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 10:25:00 EST. Two fighting game streaming giants, iPlayWinner and Level | Up Series, are teaming up to help raise money for Japan the only way they know how: by <em>kicking ass</em>. Simultaneous tournaments in Union City and Irvine, California will be streamed online as one massive show. <a href="http://fightforrelief.wordpress.com/2011/03/27/fight-for-relief/">Fight for Relief</a> will feature giveaways, interviews and competition in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-street-fighter-iv"><em>Super Street Fighter IV</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a> from some of the best in the scene, including EG Justin Wong, Alex Valle, John Choi and others.<br />
<br />
The fundraiser kicks off this Sunday, April 3, with all tournament proceeds and donations being given to Japan through <a href="http://www.globalgiving.org">GlobalGiving.org</a>, a site that facilitates the actual giving of the money. We imagine flying to Japan with a giant briefcase stuffed full of cash just isn't the most practical way to do it.<br />
<br />
If you want to sign up for either tournament, there isn't any pre-registration; just show up to either <a href="http://fightforrelief.wordpress.com/2011/03/26/union-city-ca-the-etrium/">the NorCal venue</a> or <a href="http://fightforrelief.wordpress.com/2011/03/26/irvine-ca-uc-irvine/">the SoCal venue</a> with some cash and your fight stick and throw down!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/28/fight-for-relief-charity-tournament-raises-money-for-japan/">Fight For Relief charity tournament raises money for Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Mar 2011 22:00:00 EST. Capcom launched an update for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a> earlier today to prepare for the new "Event Mode" that will be added to the game this Friday -- however, the patch has also quietly introduced a few balance changes to some characters' intricately measured statistics. The most drastic is a reduction in Sentinel's health, which has been dropped from 1.3 million tiny units (the most health of any fighter in the game) to 905,000, according to <a href="http://shoryuken.com/content/marvel-vs-capcom-3-adjustment-patch-3973/">Shoryuken</a>.<br />
<br />
The patch also nixes a few fairly unfair loops belonging to Spencer, Akuma and Haggar. Hey, why not remove their grappling hook, forbidden demonic Kung-Fu and impossibly gigantic muscles while you're at it? Those seem pretty unfair, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/22/marvel-vs-capcom-3-patch-preps-for-new-mode-introduces-balance/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 patch preps for new mode, tweaks fighters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 18:00:00 EST. Capcom Japan has announced that it will postpone the launch of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/08/jill-and-shumas-smooth-moves-captured-in-marvel-vs-capcom-3-tr/">the Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine DLC</a> characters in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</em></a>. Previously scheduled for March 15, the DLC's new launch date is unknown for the time being.<br />
<br />
Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine have been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/xblm-in-march-lara-croft-deals-mvc3-and-dragon-age-2-dlc/">priced</a> at 400 MS Points ($5) each. It's unclear whether or not this delay is worldwide -- we've contacted Capcom for clarification.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>According to <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2011/03/14/marvel_vs_capcom_3_shuma_and_jill_dlc_tomorrow">the Capcom-Unity blog</a>, players should still expect the DLC tomorrow. We're still waiting for an official statement from Capcom, but it seems US players won't be affected.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3s-shuma-and-jill-dlc-delayed/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3's Shuma and Jill DLC delayed [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Mar 2011 14:30:00 EST. It's time you saw some of the devastating attacks and killer combos of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>'s first pair of downloadable characters: the hideous Shuma-Gorath, and the significantly less hideous Jill Valentine. <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2011/03/03/comingsoontothexboxlivemarketplacemarchthird.aspx">Major Nelson</a> has posted highlights from the Xbox Live Marketplace schedule for March. First up, the <em>Dragon Age 2</em> "Black Emporium" DLC -- free to those who purchase <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/dragon-age-2-bonus-dlc-opens-the-black-emporium-for-business/">new copies of the game</a> -- will land on March 8 for 800 points ($10). Second, as promised, bonus characters Jill and Shuma Gorath will be available for <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> on March 15 for 400 points ($5) each.<br />
<br />
In other XBLM happenings, March 7 kicks off a Lara Croft themed "Deal of the Week," which will see <em>Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light</em> knocked down to 600 points ($7.50). <em>Lara Croft</em> DLC will also be discounted by fifty percent. Also, the week of March 14 will see several St. Patrick's Day deals, notably some discounted Green Day DLC (green -- geddit?) and Social Distortion's "Bad Luck" for <em>Rock Band</em>.<br />
<br />
Finally, Xbox Live Silver members can enjoy free Xbox Live Gold this weekend, beginning Friday, March 4 at 12PM ET through Monday, March 7 at 12PM ET. Head past the break for a more complete schedule of releases.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/xblm-in-march-lara-croft-deals-mvc3-and-dragon-age-2-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>XBLM in March: Lara Croft deals, MvC3 and Dragon Age 2 DLC, free Gold weekend</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/03/xblm-in-march-lara-croft-deals-mvc3-and-dragon-age-2-dlc/">XBLM in March: Lara Croft deals, MvC3 and Dragon Age 2 DLC, free Gold weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Mar 2011 17:40:00 EST. <em>Call of Duty: Black Ops</em> received some marketing reinforcements last week in the UK to regain the top spot, its eighth time as king of the hill. The move stole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Marvel-vs-Capcom-3-Fate-of-Two-Worlds/"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>'s premiere Thor thunder, as the fighter debuted in second place. Don't feel too bad for <em>MvC3</em>, though -- <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1038&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> notes that the title sold as many copies in its first week as its predecessor did in its lifetime on PS2 and Xbox (the company doesn't have access to the XBLA and PSN figures).<br />
<br />
<em> Dead Space 2</em> stomped the space yard at third, with <em>Test Drive Unlimited 2</em> downshifting its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/test-drive-unlimited-2-sets-franchise-record-atop-uk-charts/">top gear premiere</a> into fourth. The fifth and sixth spots are occupied by chart stalwarts <em>FIFA 11</em> and <em>Just Dance 2</em>, respectively. Check out the full UK top ten after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/21/black-ops-outmaneuvers-marvel-vs-capcom-3-on-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Black Ops outmaneuvers Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/21/black-ops-outmaneuvers-marvel-vs-capcom-3-on-uk-charts/">Black Ops outmaneuvers Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Feb 2011 10:15:00 EST. Those ten dollars you saved can then go <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/07/fight-against-developer-ai-in-marvel-vs-capcom-3s-dlc-shadow/">right</a></em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/03/get-a-giant-eyeful-of-marvel-vs-capcom-3s-shuma-gorath-and-jil/">back</a> into the game!<br />

In two weeks' time, no amount of <a href="http://www.perfume.com/marvel">Marvel cologne</a> is going to be able to mask the odor of <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3's </em>fighters, whose suits will have been drenched and dried in super juices many times over. It's perhaps welcome <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2011/02/14/marvel_vs._capcom_3_media_explosion">news</a>, then, that six of the game's heroes will be due for a costume change on Tuesday, March 1, when the <em>first</em> of the (sure to be many) alternate costume packs will be released on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.<br />
<br />
The first pack will provide Team Marvel's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/screenshots/full/marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-pack-dlc#/18">Thor, Captain American and Iron Man</a> and Team Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/screenshots/full/marvel-vs-capcom-3-costume-pack-dlc#/19">Dante, Ryu and Chris Redfield</a> with fresh garments for $5 total. Additionally, Capcom has confirmed that the first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/07/fight-against-developer-ai-in-marvel-vs-capcom-3s-dlc-shadow/">Shadow Mode DLC</a> pack will also be available on March 1 -- a good way to <em>break in</em> the new duds.<br />
<br />
The Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath character pack will follow on March 15 for an undisclosed price, according to a leaflet in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/16/marvel-vs-capcom-3-dlc-jill-valentine-shuma-gor/">Special Edition</a> of the game (which includes a code to download the pair now). Capcom has yet to announce any DLC beyond these three releases over the next four weeks.<br />

It's okay -- you don't have to wander into <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3">Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a></em> without hope or direction. Fighting game site extraordinaire <a href="http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Marvel_vs_Capcom_3">Shoryuken</a> has put together an incredibly comprehensive guide on the new brawler, including videos on basic strategies, tips for playing each character, and super esoteric info on prolonging those sweet, sweet combos.<br />
<br />
We suggest starting out with Shoryuken's video series on the <a href="http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Marvel_vs_Capcom_3/System_Guide">basic mechanics</a> of the game. If you have a hard time grokking the execution of Advancing Guards, or the X-Factor Hyper Move Cancel Maneuver, or the Omega Diagonal Pause-Shift Ground Combo Refraction Evasion Technique, you might just have to rely on good ol' button-mashing.<br />

It's been a long time coming for fight fans, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3</em></a> will finally arrive in households across the country this week. Now that you've already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-review/">read our take on the game</a> (we checked your browser history), it's time to check out what the rest of the critics have to say. Shall we take you for a ride?<br />

Potentially good news for fans of tiny versions of things they like: A new line of Minimates figures based on <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> was revealed by <a href="http://www.minimateheadquarters.com/?p=1346">Minimates HQ</a> earlier today. The site has since pulled the announcement at the request of Diamond Select Toys, though not before the news and images (like the ones above) were <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=Marvel+vs.+Capcom+3+Minimates">firmly planted on the internet</a>.<br />
<br />
Figures appear to run the gamut from Arthur to X-23. Even as their creators have apparently backtracked on the official announcement, the <em>MvC3</em> Minimates appear to be legit (they even showed up on Capcom Unity, <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.capcom-unity.com%2Fjgonzo%2Fblog%2F2011%2F02%2F14%2Fmarvel_vs._capcom_3_minimates_announced">briefly</a>) -- and they're definitely marketable. Seriously, we've wanted a pocket-sized Arthur since, like, 1989.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-minimates/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of tiny action figures</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Feb 2011 19:00:00 EST. Montague vs. Capulet. Death Row vs. Bad Boy. Sparta vs. Athens. Yankees vs. Red Sox. Hamilton vs. Burr. Sure, these guys have some bad blood. I'd even go so far as to say they've got <em>beef</em>. But do any of them have the ability to manipulate metal or flex a bionic arm? How about healing powers and adamantium claws? Are any of them gods of thunder? I thought not. Advantage <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</em></a>.<br />
<br />
The excuse for bringing all these characters into the same place basically boils down to this: Dr. Doom, of Marvel fame, and Wesker, from the <em>Resident Evil</em> games, try to meld their respective universes in order to take them both over at once. Unfortunately, by doing so, they made it easier for the rampaging planet eater Galactus to chow down on two worlds. It's all fairly inconsequential to the gameplay but, hey, there needs to be at least some reason for bringing all these folks together for a third time. And to be honest, when a game is as much fun as <em>MvC3</em>, I don't really care what that reason is.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/">Marvel vs Capcom European pre-order T-shirts</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778917"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/blockbuster_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Blockbuster" title="Blockbuster" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778918"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/game_thumbnail.jpg" alt="GAME" title="GAME" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778919"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/gamestop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="GameStop" title="GameStop" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778920"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/hmv_thumbnail.jpg" alt="HMV" title="HMV" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-european-pre-order-t-shirts/#3778921"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/indies_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Independent stores" title="Independent stores" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3 review: The premier in button-mashing mash-ups</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/marvel-vs-capcom-3-review/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 review: The premier in button-mashing mash-ups</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Feb 2011 11:01:00 EST. Marvel's Chris Baker has <a href="http://fans.marvel.com/marvel_interactive/blog/2011/02/09/marvel_vs._capcom_3:_the_final_9_marvel_alternates">done his final lap</a> through the various origins of <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3">Marvel vs. Capcom 3's</a></em> alternate costumes for the superheroes in the game and, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/marvel-vs-capcom-3s-alternate-costumes-comic-book-origins-exp/">just like last time</a>, things get geeky fast. Good to see Marvel got <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapon_X">the <em>Days of Future Now</em></a> Deadpool in there, as well as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_2099">Doom 2099</a> and the <em>Secret Invasion</em> Super Skrull. Most players who choose the variants might not know where they come from, but you comic book geeks will.<br />
<br />
Of course, this last round of backstory also reveals that Marvel and Capcom didn't always have a lot of choices for some of the more obscure characters. Sometimes, they just bent things around as much as possible (witness Thor's continuity-breaking "inspired by" costume variants) and sometimes they just look to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZUMjoxfZA">the New York Knicks</a>.That's right -- the Mango Sentinel is back.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/11/more-marvel-vs-capcom-3-alt-costumes-in-the-spotlight-includin/">More Marvel vs. Capcom 3 alt costumes in the spotlight, including the Mango Sentinel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Feb 2011 03:00:00 EST. From Feb. 15 through 19, the retailer is offering its "<a href="http://www.shopyourwayrewards.com/sywr/home_do">Shop Your Way Rewards</a>" members $25 worth of points for in-store purchases of the game. Kmart is also giving away an exclusive poster (above) with <em>MvC3</em> purchases -- supplies are limited, of course.<br />
<br />
In addition, Kmart is throwing a pile of deals at people interested in <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/test-drive-unlimited-2">Test Drive Unlimited 2</a></em>. Through Feb. 12, the retailer is giving away a free code for a Ferrari 612 Sessanta. In-store purchases for 360 will come with free copies of the PC version of <em>Test Drive Unlimited 1</em>, and PS3 buyers get the first game on PSP thrown in. <em>And</em> if you're a member of that rewards program, you get $10 worth of points. With this kind of bribery, Kmart's making a pretty good argument for becoming a member and getting into a Kmart habit.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/09/launch-week-deals-on-marvel-vs-capcom-3-test-drive-unlimited-2/">Launch week deals on Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Test Drive Unlimited 2 at Kmart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Feb 2011 20:45:00 EST. If the upcoming Mad Catz <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fightsticks-shipping-in-time-for-the-game/"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> Fight Sticks</a> are a little too intimidating for you, Marvel and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pdp">PDP</a> have cooked up a much more diminutive option. The Marvel Edition Versus Fighting Pad comes packed with love-it-hate-it Marvel artwork, an arcade button layout and an elongated left ... erm ... prong(?) for more ergonomic digital pugilism. Furthermore, both the buttons and specially designed thumb pad operate using actual microswitch actuators -- the same kind you'd find in a real arcade cabinet.<br />

The Versus pad is <a href="http://www.pdp.com/p-984-versus-fighting-pad-marvel-edition-presale.aspx">available for pre-order</a> for $40 and is expected to arrive on February 14, making it the perfect last minute Valentine's Day gift for the nerd in your life. Only the Xbox 360 version of the pad has been announced, though a PS3 version may be released if the 360 pad does well. Check out an in-depth video of the Versus in action after the break.<br type="_moz" /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/07/take-an-elongated-look-at-pdps-mvc3-versus-fighting-pad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Take an elongated look at PDP's Marvel Versus Fighting Pad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/07/take-an-elongated-look-at-pdps-mvc3-versus-fighting-pad/">Take an elongated look at PDP's Marvel Versus Fighting Pad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Feb 2011 17:50:00 EST. Capcom is giving you the chance to <em>approximate</em> that experience with some upcoming DLC for <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</em>. "Shadow Mode" comprises downloadable AI characters designed to play in the style of real people.<br />
<br />
The first pack will include teams imitating the play styles of producer Ryota Niitsuma, assistant producer Akihito Kadowaki, and "a QA team leader." Capcom teases that future DLC "may feature some personalities you already know." We're holding out for an AI <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/daigo-umehara">Daigo</a> to destroy us.<br />
<br />
This idea of AI versions of real people is also being implemented in another upcoming fighter. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/31/dead-or-alive-dimensions-trades-play-patterns-via-streetpass/">Dead or Alive Dimensions</a></em> builds an AI profile of the player, then beams that out via the 3DS's "StreetPass" communication to other players nearby, allowing them to fight against a robot version of you.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/07/fight-against-developer-ai-in-marvel-vs-capcom-3s-dlc-shadow/">Fight against developer AI in Marvel vs. Capcom 3's DLC 'Shadow Mode'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Feb 2011 13:25:00 EST. Mad Catz, anticipating this obvious interest, is producing one just for such an occasion. <br />
<br />
The "Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition" keeps the hardware design and Sanwa Denshi brand arcade components from previous <em>Street Fighter IV </em>Tournament Edition FightSticks and adds new, surprisingly restrained <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em> artwork to the top panel of the stick. Like the most recent iterations of the FightStick, it also includes a locking mechanism to prevent accidental use of the turbo switches.<br />
<br />
5,000 MvC3 FightSticks are being produced and will be available from <a href="http://store.gameshark.com/?utm_source=GS_Text&amp;utm_medium=website%20?a=gameshark-store&amp;&amp;s=&amp;uid=&amp;fs=">Mad Catz's online store</a>. No price has been named, but previous Tournament Edition sticks have retailed for around $150.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-3-tournament-edition-fightstick-xbox-360-ps3/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Tournament Edition FightStick (Xbox 360/PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-3-tournament-edition-fightstick-xbox-360-ps3/#3837855"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/fightstick2101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marvel-vs-capcom-3-tournament-edition-fightstick-xbox-360-ps3/#3837857"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/02/fightstick2102_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fightsticks-shipping-in-time-for-the-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3 FightSticks shipping in time for the game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fightsticks-shipping-in-time-for-the-game/">Marvel vs. Capcom 3 FightSticks shipping in time for the game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Feb 2011 21:40:00 EST. The intro cutscene for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds</em></a> is quite the whopper, weighing in at four minutes and featuring quite a large volume of crossover calamity. You might have heard that the Sentinel -- mango or otherwise -- would <a href="http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/jan/22/sentinel-disconfirmed-niitsuma-marvel-vs-capcom-3/">not be making a return appearance</a> in <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds">Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a></em>. You may also have heard that no <a href="http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/oct/23/niitsuma-deconfirms-more-franchises-mvc3/">more members of the <em>Darkstalkers</em> cast</a> would be joining the roster. You might be inclined to believe these statements because they came from the mouth of Capcom's Ryota Niitsuma himself.<br />
<br />
Either Niitsuma was misinformed or someone was <em>fibbing</em>. Regardless, here are some videos of Hsien-Ko and Sentinel in <em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em>. Hsien-Ko, incidentally, was among the characters mentioned on a purportedly leaked <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/rumor-marvel-vs-capcom-3-roster-to-include-mega-man-frank-wes/">list</a> we posted last year. Sentinel was not, though the this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/13/marvel-vs-capcom-3-retail-listing-shows-akuma/">isn't the first time</a> we've seen an unlisted character pop up.<br />

Remember all those fancy combos you learned with Frank West last year in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-ultimate-allstars">Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</a></em>? Well, you can forget about redirecting them to Chris Redfield's face when <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds">Marvel vs. Capcom 3</a></em> ships this February. Plans for <em>Dead Rising 1</em>'s main man being playable in <em>MvC3</em> were in place -- his silhouette appears in the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/20/marvel-vs-capcom-3-fate-of-two-worlds-ps3-xbox-360-spring-2011/">debut trailer</a> , and he showed up in our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/15/rumor-marvel-vs-capcom-3-roster-to-include-mega-man-frank-wes/">leaked list of characters</a> earlier this year -- but he was cut due to "some extra work involved, just from the nature of his moves." <br />
<br />
West was reportedly "quite deep" into the process before getting axed. Capcom producer Ryota Niitsuma explained the loss to <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/frank_west_cut_phoenix_wright_considered_for_mvc3.html">VideoGamer.com</a>, saying, "We felt we could direct our resources to better use, so we've taken Frank out." We're hoping that "better use" of resources is directed at the development of a Chuck Greene character to round out a <em>Dead Rising</em> character DLC pack. They've murdered <em>thousands</em> of zombies, you know.<br />
