The first series, available at retailers sometime this summer, will include Conner (in both traditional assassin and Ratonhnhaké:ton flavors) and Haytham Kenyway, among others. Figures are six inches tall, give or take, and feature an average of 25 points of articulation. No word yet on when subsequent series will be released or what other characters will be part of this initial run. Personally, we're hoping for a moose.

The set includes a posable Master Chief, the cryotube (complete with realistic frost detail) and a pistol, and will be available in August.

McFarlane is also developing figurines of Master Chief, an Elite Zealot, a Storm Grunt, a Spartan Warrior, Cortana, a Spartan Soldier and two new enemies, the Crawler and the Watcher.

The cryogenic Master Chief appears to be extremely similar to the initial prototype McFarlane showed off in February, which means we still wonder how he goes about turning his head between Madonna's cast-off shoulder pads. At least his all-essential forearms are protected.

If Microsoft approves this prototype, Halo 4 will mark a departure from previous armor designs, which have generally offered more coverage around Master Chief's vital organs, and more mobility around the neck and shoulders. Because that's what armor should do.

For example, the Halo 4 version offers a squishy black bullseye over Master Chief's heart, while in Halo 3 that area was covered in sturdy green armor. The bicep patches in the above design look large enough to carry your emblem of choice (unicorn), but not to stop advanced-technology bullets from piercing your skin as previous armor versions do. Also, he's fighting a galactic war, not practicing advanced yoga -- there is no reason for that much uncovered space on his hips.

Microsoft will decide if this prototype is close enough to in-game reality before it launches in the fall as part of McFarlane's Halo 4 lineup, which will include brand new weapons, characters and vehicles. This year McFarlane also plans to drop two new product lines based in the Halo universe: Micro Ops, which offers classic figures at 1:100 standard size, and Halo Avatars, 2.5-inch physical renditions of Xbox Live avatars.

Video games are great and all, but most of us at Joystiq HQ still harbor a penchant for action figures, born from youthful days and being forced to play outside now and again. As we've matured, however, so has the toy industry, and action figures these days are way more awesome than the stuff we had growing up.

Kids these days don't know how good they have it, either. The above video, for instance, showcases the state-of-the-art rapid prototyping technologies used by McFarlane Toys to create their hyper-detailed Halo figures. Back in our day, action figures took months to prototype, and we were happy about it!

And another thing! Back in our day, the words "3D" and "printer" would never share space in the same sentence, let alone be used in conjunction with one another to describe an actual thing. Get off our lawn!

A couple weeks back, McFarlane Toys announced it would be producing a line of action figures for Bungie's upcoming Halo: Reach. Nothing too surprising there, as most of us with any kind of flat open surface can attest -- you have lots of Halo toys already, right? Well, we hope you're ready to at least look at some more, because that's what this post is about!

Kotaku attended this year's Toy Fair show in NYC today, where the preliminary packaging and prototype images for the toys were presented. The original announcement for the figures only detailed that we could all expect Halo: Reach stuff from McFarlane this year and well into 2011, but it would appear the initial run is being limited to Noble team (the Spartans the game revolves around) and at least one Ghost-riding Grunt. McFarlane Toys has announced that it's making a line of collectibles based on Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer's forthcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time motion picture. The movie's due out next May, and as fate (or marketing) would have it, so are the toys.

The toymaker doesn't have anything for us to actually look at yet, but there are plenty of details to be had on just exactly what we can expect to be taking up shelf space at your local toy store / comic book merchant / Jake Gyllenhaal fan club gift shop.

Unlike many of McFarlane's figures, the 4" and 6" mini-Jakes and pals will be fully articulated. We're not certain, though, if the promised "battle horses" will be as limber. A playset (yep, they still make those) is also in the works, as is something wholly non-action-figure: A replica Dagger of Time, complete with "disappearing sand," LED lighting and -- because safety trumps cool -- a "soft vinyl blade." We imagine it'll be perfect for dealing with "huggable plush sand monsters" and "Tickle Me Nizam."

Planned for release in October -- the game hits September 22 -- the Halo series 6 figure "The Rookie" stands 6" tall, comes packaged with an ODST medal and is hopefully not the only squad member from the game getting the poseable plastic treatment. (Hey, even if the basic figure's the same, there are still minor coloring and equipment differences.)

Also, does it strike anyone else as odd that the only part of an ODST's body not covered in armor is his fingertips?

If you're attending the San Diego Comic Con and are a fan of all things Halo 3, then you'll likely be excited to hear that Toys R Us and McFarlane Toys are teaming up to sell the exclusive figure you see above during the show. Only 6,000 of these Grifball bad boys (or girls, because you really don't know who's under that 200 billion-dollar suit of armor) are being sold at the show, and you can grab your own for $15. We suggest making this a priority stop, as the figure features a Bomb, Gravity Hammer, Recon armor, and Sword Hilt, with the latter two being pretty big deals in the world of spinning space rings, we hear. Also, 6,000 isn't a lot when you consider 126,000 people attended the show last year.

San Diego Comic-Con goes down from July 23-26 at the San Diego Convention Center.

The three retailers will begin selling three different 3-packs of the figurines sometime this month, while other retailers will begin selling the toys after the Halo Wars launch in March. Each of the three "First Look" retailers will have an exclusive 3-pack on offer, each containing three 2&frac12; inch UNSC or Covenant figures. Recently, McFarlane unveiled the final sculpts for the mini Halo Wars figures that they announced back in September and, with the unveil, announced the pricing will be between $9.99 and $11.99.

You can view all four sets of new Halo Wars mini-figures including the traditional UNSC troops along with blue and red variants as well as a set of purple Covenant. Seriously, how adorable is that purple Grunt? Each set includes three 2.5" figures with various weapons and will release to retail March 2009.

To compliment their already expansive sets of Halo 3 figures, Todd McFarlane and crew just announced that they'll be releasing Halo Wars figures to retail beginning March 2009.

The first series of Halo Wars figures are actually mini-figures, 2.5 inches tall (aww, shucks!), rotatable at the waist and sold as a three pack. At release, the first series will be comprised of four different sets including Spartans, Marine Infantry and Covenant with each set packaged with various weapons. You can get learned about all four different Halo Wars sets after the break and view the work-in-progress figure sculpts in the gallery below. Lovely, aren't they?

As before, there are a couple exclusives in the bunch, but the majority of the figures can be found in major retailers and, of course, at Amazon. Yesterday, McFarlane opened up the pre-order floodgates, allowing Halo 3 action figure collectors the chance to pre-order the Spawn Store exclusive H3 Active Camo EVA Spartan Soldier figure. Yup, the same camouflaged figure we talked about way back in November. Each figure will cost $12.99 when they release later this year, and with each pre-order you'll be able to snatch up two figures. Todd McFarlane isn't sitting on his haunches, oh no. That just isn't how you create an action figure empire, you have to go after licenses like a foamy mouthed dog full of rabies and rage. And that's exactly what Toddy is doing, not only gobbling up the Guitar Hero license but now the Call of Duty: World at War franchise as well.

That's right, today Todd McFarlane and crew just announced they are creating a set of four Call of Duty :World at War action figures that are (presumably) set to release later this year for around $10-$15 each. Included in the four figure set are some "highly detailed" figures including "Marine Infantry, Battle of Peleliu", "Marine Marine Corps with Flamethrower, Battle of Peleliu", "Marine Corps with Machine Gun, Battle of Okinawa" and "British Special Ops, Battle for the Roer Triangle". Overly long action figure names aside, we can't help but wonder what other video game licenses McFarlane will acquire in the near future. Our vote is for Roogoo ... we'd so support Roogoo figures.

Last week, we told you about Todd McFarlane's interesting decision to gobble up the Guitar Hero license and the subsequent creation of a set of four Guitar Hero figures that are set to release this Fall. No, we still haven't fully accepted the figures seeing that we don't have any real attachment to the characters of Guitar Hero franchise, but we do now know exactly what each figure will look like. Viewable in the gallery below are the final sculpts of the Johnny Napalm, Lars Umlaut, Axel Steel and God of Rock figures. Not horrible (except for the God of Rock's odd looking shoulder), but we'll stick with our Halo and Gears figures.

You have room on your desk, right? Right there between the Varia Suit Samus statue and Battle Armor Skeletor sits a space just begging to be filled. Now, McFarlane Toys, whose figs have more in common with plastic sculptures than actual toys, has announced plans to fill that space on your already crowded desk with figures based on Guitar Hero this November.

Already known for creating figures based on other video game properties such as Metal Gear Solid and Halo, McFarlane Toys has announced a manly lineup of four Guitar Hero personalities, each featuring 15-18 moving parts and a price between $10-15. The first wave of plastic rockers will include Johnny Napalm, Lars Ümlaut, Axel Steel, and God of Rock, while Casey Lynch and Judy Nails cheer lead the first wave from the sidelines.

Okay, we aren't sure what the general opinion is going to be for why these are being created or who's going to end up purchasing 'em, but we think we can agree it's an odd franchise to spawn action figures from.

The Toddy McFarlane sculpting crew (the same crew who makes those lovely Halo 3 figures) just announced today that they've partnered with Acti to release Guitar Hero action figures ... yes, Guitar Hero figures of action. Odd, seeing that the GH franchise really doesn't focus on character development so our enthusiasm for owning a figure like, say, Johnny Napalm is kinda lacking. Oh well. The complete set of four figures (Axel Steel, Johnny Napalm, Lars Umlaut and God of Rock) will be available this Fall for around $15 a pop. Yup, yup ...

Doing away with the admittedly "chubby" packaging from the first series, McFarlane reworked and slimmed down the packaging for July's Halo 3 series two figures. And it's some pretty packaging! Added to the (super duper large) gallery below is the final packaging for all series two figures including campaign, multiplayer and store exclusive figures. We want this one, this one and this one. Oh, and if we have enough cash leftover, maybe this one too.

Todd McFarlane is up to his marketing trickery once again, releasing two exclusive Halo 3 Spartan figures that will only be available for purchase at this year's Comic-Con. And if you already glanced at the image above, you then already know these figures ooze bad-ass.

The two Comic-Con exclusive Spartans include an Active Camouflage C.Q.B. Spartan and a super delicious Spawn inspired E.V.A. Hell Spartan (preview pictures added to the gallery below). And if you don't start drooling over the Hell Spartan then you either A) have no action figure taste, B) your Halo-fanboy'ism is lacking, or C) you have no soul. Spawn.com just uploaded a bunch of media for their upcoming McFarlane Halo 3 series three action figures that are set for release this August. The figures (all viewable in the gallery below) include a new Jackal, Human Flood, War Chieftan Brute and Master Chief which were spotted a few weeks back during a toy expo. Also detailed are the exclusive Spartans that'll hit various retailers in various armor permutations and in various colors. Toy News International snagged a few product shots from McFarlane's third series of Halo 3 action figures and yes, you can has Recon.

The series three pictures (viewable in the gallery below) show off a super zexy Master Chief, Brute Chieftain Weapon Class, Jackal Major, Human Flood, an Olive Rogue Spartan and a Red Hayabusa Spartan. The figures not pictured, but also scheduled for release in the third series are an Elite Combat and a (drum roll please!) Teal Recon Spartan! YOU WILL HAS RECON! All McFarlane series three Halo 3 figures and vehicles are slated for release in August, so check out the pics, drool over the third series and eagerly await your Recon.

Just announced is a brand new (and somewhat limited) EE exclusive Halo 3 yellow ODST action figure that's (surprise!) only available for purchase online at EE. This exclusive figure will be shipping sometime later this October, but can be pre-ordered online for $14.99. Truth be told, it isn't a bad looking "toy", but we'd be a little more impressed if this exclusive EE Spartan was rockin' the Recon ... or a flaming helmet.

All of the talk, news, previews and excitement surrounding McFarlane's Halo 3 series one has been accumulating over the past few months, all in preparation for the figures' March launch. But now we're learning that some fanboys my not have to wait until March to get their Halo 3 action figure goodness.

X3F reader matt mcclard sent us the picture above, which he recently took at a Wal-Mart store in Dallas. And we think the picture is pretty self-explanatory. Halo 3 series one figures are already making their way into retail stores! Woohoo! This also means one other thing: we're headed off to our local Wal-mart to see what Halo 3 goodies we can find. Master Chief, we're coming for you.

More action figure preview goodness comes our way thanks to Action-Figure and ToyFare 2008 as McFarlane showcased some never before seen Halo 3 vehicles from their third series. And we actually have good news. If you recall, Toddy McFarlane decided to cancel all vehicles that were originally planned for the second series of Halo 3 figures including the Mongoose. That bummed us out, because Warthogs and Ghosts are cool, but nothing is as sexy as a Mongoose. (Now this is where we tell you the good news.) We just learned that McFarlane reworked the vehicle lineup for the third series and behold! We have Mongoose! The third series of Halo 3 vehicles will now include our lovely Mongoose, a Wraith and a miniature Scarab. Virtual high fives to everyone for the rebirth of the Mongoose!

In preparation of the March launch of their first series of Halo 3 action figures, the McFarlane team has launched a brand new and heavily Halo 3 inspired website showcasing their complete line of action figures goodness. We don't exactly know how to explain or justify our infatuation with their new website other then just telling you to make the jump and check it out for yourself. They pretty much based the website's entire look and navigation after Halo 3's menus and it's just so damn sexy. Creative and damn sexy. There's also new product photos, downloads, information, 360 degree Quicktime VRs (this is Cortana) and the announcement of a new Halo Points program. The highly anticipated and figure'licious Halo 3 Series 1 McFarlane figures will be releasing this March and all is pretty much solidified with those. But for fanboys who are saving up for Series 2 in June, they've been in the dark to what retail exclusive Spartan variants will be released. That is until now.

Toddy McFarlane just announced, posted pictures (viewable in the gallery below) and laid out all the details about their upcoming Halo 3 Series 2 retailer exclusive figures. And yes, there are a bunch of 'em. Spread between five different retail outlets are six exclusive Spartan figures including a pink Mark VI, cyan ODST and brown E.V.A all of which are splendid and gorgeous. We've posted a list of all the Series 2 Spartan base and exclusive figures after the break as well as added photographic goodness in the gallery below. We're curious to see who'll be putting their manly guards down and head to D&R Lineups to pickup a pink Spartan. Any takers?

Gird your loins, because the McFarlane Toys line of Halo 3 action figures is on its way. Still due to drop in March, the snazzy-looking collectibles have already gone through packaging design, and X3F has collected some photos of what to look out for on retail shelves.

With war-torn backdrops, and minimalistic packaging (except for the bizarre "Cortana LIGHTS UP!" sticker), these designs were clearly made to show off the figures, and for good reason. We might just pick up a few Spartan soldiers for ourselves, to re-enact our favorite Halo 3 multiplayer moments.

You see, we don't have any new action figures to show you, instead we have the figures' finalized packaging. Which, we must admit, is just as exciting as seeing the figures themselves. Over at the Japanese'ish forums at Toysdaily, ALIEN0021 posted a few new, unseen pictures of Halo 3 McFarlane figures in the wild. These new pictures look to be from the first series and are so close up that they showcase the insane amount of craftsmanship and detail that McFarlane put into them. Just look at these sculpts and the paint jobs and try to not be amazed. These new pictures further solidify our excitement and have caused us to take on the new Halo figure mantra; Joyride Studios who? He teased us with some Arbiter pics earlier this month, but today Todd McFarlane is showing off the entire Halo 3 Series 2 line of action figures that are due out in June. And be double warned Halo fanboys, Series 2 is just as hot as Series 1.

Uploaded to the gallery below is the final sculpts of the entire Halo 3 Series 2 line of action figures from McFarlane that will release later this June. Featuring 18 points of articulation and beautiful paint jobs are Series 2 figures including Master Chief sporting a shotgun and spartan laser (yum!), the Arbiter, a Drone, an ODST soldier, a Brute Stalker and a handful of other Spartans. The Spartans pictured include a CQB in red, Scout in tan and an exclusive EVA in white that'll be available at specialty retailers. McFarlane also lists six other color variant figures (complete list after the break) as part of Series 2, but they're limited to select stores. Now it's time to prepare by clearing off the bookshelf to make room for all this action figure goodness. Who needs books when you have Halo 3 figures.

McFarlane Toys has released a gallery of pictures showing off the latest addition to its line of Halo action figures, the Arbiter. According to the press release, he will be armed with an energy sword and carbine rifle that can be fitted onto the leg or back.

The press release reconfirmed for Series 2 the Drone, Spartans, Brute Stalker and a Master Chief variant. The Arbiter figurine is expected to sneak its way into retail in June along with possibly eight more entities from the Halo universe. The first series of Halo figures from McFarlane Toys is expected in March.

News about series one of the Halo 3 McFarlane action figures is so old hat and so 2007. What is newsworthy in 2008 is details about series two and good old Toddy came through for us.

Over at Spawn.com and posted in our handy gallery below is the first look at the Arbiter figure that'll be a part of the second series of Halo 3 action figures releasing in June. Note the craftsmanship, eighteen points of articulation and the Arbiter's piercing eyes ... we're in action figure love. Remember too that the second series will also include another Master Chief, a Drone, a few Spartans and a Brute Stalker as well. So keep your eyes open for "first look" photos of those over at Spawn.com in the next few months. We're saving up already.

And you thought Todd McFarlane was so innocent, so pure only choosing to make Halo 3 action figures out of the kindness of his heart. Well, we'd hate to say "we told you so", but we did, because Mr. McFarlane is releasing yet ANOTHER Halo 3 figure this May available exclusively from his website.

Newly announced today is a brand new Halo 3 Spartan figure featuring EVA armor and active camo (ooo ahh!) This clear figure will only be available through Spawn.com pre-orders and we're led to believe that if you don't grab a pre-order by December 12th, you'll miss out on a chance to own this limited figure. Expanding on their series of Halo 3 dolls, McFarlane toys started pre-orders today on the Halo 3 Active Camouflage Spartan figure. The action figure is modeled after the EVA Armor and will not be sold in stores. Pre-order registration begins today and runs through Dec. 12, the figure will be available in May '08.

McFarlane also produced a set of Halo 3 controllers and a slew of other Halo figures. Wonder if McFarlane will come out with a Halo camouflage controller, which would consist of two clear pieces of plastic as the controller's body? Easy money.

Continuing his iron grip on the Halo 3 action figure market, Toddy McFarlane (we call him Toddy, because we're tight) announced a new GameStop exclusive Steel CQB Spartan action figure. The Steel CQB figure (viewable in the gallery below) will be released alongside Series 1 sometime March 2008 and like we said, it'll only be available at GameStop stores.

Another factoid we found interesting was that the figure will come with removable shoulder pads, chest plate and helmet all of which will be interchangeable with other Halo 3 figures. It's an interesting concept and something we haven't heard about, but we know we'll be buying all the variants to build a figure to look like our multiplayer Spartan. Kind of like a Build-A-Spartan Workshop ... or not.
