<div align="left">The march of progress continues unabated as Sony has unveiled a <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/01/06/sony-intros-16gb-memory-stick-duo/">new 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo</a> at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ces-2008">CES</a>. The PSP- and PS3-compatible proprietary storage solution will cost a whopping $300 when it comes out in March. That might seem a little steep, especially when similarly sized SD cards are <a href="http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3503095&amp;Sku=P33-7020&amp;SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&amp;CMP=OTC-GOOGLEBASE">half the price</a> and available now. Still, it could be worse -- <a href="http://www.littletechshoppe.com/ns1625/winchest.html">back in 1956</a>, you'd have to pay <strike>$10,000</strike> $50,000 (Edit: whoops. Typo) for a 5MB hard drive. So, really, this new card is a bargain!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/01/06/16gb-of-love-the-new-300-memory-stick/">PSPFanboy</a>]<br /> </div>

Back <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/04/deal-of-the-day-4gb-memory-stick-for-40/">in June</a>, we were able to score a 4GB stick for $40 ... now we can get one for $5 less: $35. If you don't have a Memory Stick yet (maybe you're waiting for the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psplite">redesigned PSP</a>?), getting a large capacity stick is crucial to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/60reasons">having fun</a> with the system. We're quite pleased with the amount of music, videos and demos the 4GB card can hold (although we're keeping an eye out on the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IGGCCG/002-7260261-1587257?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000IGGCCG">8GB Memory Stick</a>!).<br /><br />Go to <a href="http://shop2.outpost.com/product/5211767?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG">FRYS.com</a> to take advantage of this great deal.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149453">CAG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/21/deal-of-the-day-4gb-memory-stick-for-35/">Deal of the Day: 4GB Memory Stick for $35</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Aug 2007 14:30:00 EST. Thankfully, 4GB cards continue to plummet in price. <a href="http://shop4.outpost.com/product/5211767">Fry's</a> is offering a Lexar stick for only $40, including shipping. 4GB is more than enough space, even for videophiles that like to encode their videos in full resolution. As these sticks continue to slowly decline in price, one wonders when a 8GB card will be as affordable as this.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://boards.ign.com/psp_general_board/b7159/142118371/p1/">IGN Boards</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/04/deal-of-the-day-4gb-memory-stick-for-40/">Deal of the Day: 4GB Memory Stick for $40</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Jun 2007 08:00:00 EST. <br />Every now and then, someone produces a product that just makes sense, and the <a href="http://www.thejimi.com/">Jimi Game Shell</a> is a great example. We already know that DS games are incredibly tiny; in fact, so much of our media these days comes, like dynamite, in small packages. SD cards, memory sticks for the <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2006/01/24/2gb-memory-stick-tested-we-love-it/">other guys</a>, and our own games, and we're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/16/ds-daily-what-do-you-look-for-in-a-case/">always looking</a> for great new storage solutions. So when the folks behind the Jimi Game Shells offered to send us a couple of samples for a test drive, we jumped on it.<br /><br />The idea of a small, separate case designed just for our DS games is nothing new; some cases include storage space for games, and there are a variety of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/10/a-different-approach-to-cartridge-storage/">retail</a> <a href="http://www.hori.jp/us/products/ndsl/cover_case/index.html">solutions</a>. They're also great fodder for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/castlevania-portrait-of-unboxing/">preorder swag</a>, and there's always the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/15/an-injeanious-ds-lite-case-and-a-very-bad-pun/">DIY</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/30/need-a-ds-case-yet-have-no-money/">route</a>. But what makes the Jimi shells so interesting is that they're designed to hold a variety of media ... and they're made from eco-friendly (well, <em>friendlier</em>) recycled <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polypropylene">polypropylene</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/jimi-game-shells-wrap-your-babies-in-recycled-goods/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jimi Game Shells wrap your babies in recycled goods</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/jimi-game-shells-wrap-your-babies-in-recycled-goods/">Jimi Game Shells wrap your babies in recycled goods</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 May 2007 10:00:00 EST. These packs come with a bundled DVD that features four movies, pre-encoded for PSP playback. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/13/sony-including-movie-with-memory-stick/">previous pack</a> came with the choice of cinematic masterpieces, such as <em>The Grudge, S.W.A.T., Hitch, </em>and <em>XXX: State of the Union</em>. Yeah ...<br /><br />According to <a href="http://games.ign.com/articles/786/786371p1.html">IGN</a>, the new MSX-M2GSEP model will feature a different collection of four movies: <em>Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby</em>, <em>Spider-man 2</em>, <em>Hellboy</em> and <em>S.W.A.T</em>. (again?) While the selection isn't too great, the sheer convenience is certainly appreciated. Unfortunately, the DVD can only be used to unlock <em>one</em> movie, so make sure you choose wisely.<br /><br />This package will be available at Sony Style stores for about $60. The package will also include a 2GB Memory Stick.<br /><br />[Thanks, Joel!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/new-memory-stick-entertainment-pack-installs-new-movies/">New Memory Stick Entertainment Pack installs new movies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 May 2007 17:30:00 EST. The extended lapse between then and today's firmware v3.30 could be a sign of two factors at play: 1) 3.11 actually secured the handheld (for almost 2 months), despite the firmware being <a href="http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/psp-firmware-3-11-decrypted-52359.html" target="_blank">quickly decrypted</a>; and 2) compatibility issues weren't plaguing <a target="_blank" href="http://www.playstation3.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/joystiq-guide-psone-downloads-hit-the-psp-by-way-of-the-ps3/">downloadable PS1 titles</a> (because there weren't any new ones(!) -- unless you count <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/03/09/wipeout-ps1-comes-to-psp/" target="_blank"><em>WipEout</em></a>). So what does 3.30 offer users besides the obvious security patch and extended PSN support? Not much:
<ul>
    <li>Support for thumbnail images of items has been added under [RSS Channel]</li>
    <li>Support for thumbnail images of videos that are stored in the "VIDEO" folder has been added</li>
    <li>The following sizes of MPEG-4/H.264 AVC Main Profile (AVC CABAC) video files can now be played in the "VIDEO" folder: 720X480, 352X480, and 480X272 (native resolution)<br /></li>
    <li>[Use Wireless Hotspot] has been added as a feature under [Network Settings]</li>
</ul>
The expanded video size options are the most notable addition, but <a target="_blank" href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/776/776464p1.html">IGN</a> reports that the feature is "very touchy" (read: it has yet to work with IGN's user-created files). The test won't be fast, and it will involve doing a reformat of the disk, but it does appear to be quite comprehensive.<br /><br />However, I've also heard that there's a poor man's way of checking for the real deal. Go to the PSP's XMB, and have "Memory Stick" highlighted as one of your options. Hit Triangle and then "Information." If MagicGate, Sony's proprietary copy-protection scheme isn't supported, chances are high that you have a fake.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://psp3d.com/homepage-news/12996-psp-memory-stick-tester-released.html">PSP3D</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/09/is-your-memory-stick-the-real-deal/">Is your Memory Stick the real deal?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Jan 2007 22:35:00 EST. Just as it appears '3.03 Open Edition Revision A' (OE-A) is essentially a modified version of Sony's official <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2006/12/20/firmware-3-03-unceremoniously-appears-on-network-update/" target="_blank">v3.03 fimware</a>. 3.03OE-A also comes with a modified version of Sony's PS1 emulator, popstation; and with this latest custom firmware release, custom-made ISOs (game files) can now be compressed to conserve memory stick space.<br /><br />Ethical concerns aside, it's amazing how the PSP homebrew scene has exploded ahead of Sony, unlocking the company's emulator for use with all PS1 titles. With just a few hours of research, a stack of old PlayStation games on hand, and perhaps a little trial and error, you now have the power to forge your own emulation experience -- imagine that. You don't even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/joystiq-guide-psone-downloads-hit-the-psp-by-way-of-the-ps3/" target="_blank">need a PlayStation 3</a>.<br /><br />Update: clarified that popstation is a modified version of Sony's PS1 emulator.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/04/hacked-psone-emulation-on-psp-now-more-efficient/">Hacked PS1 emulation on PSP now more efficient [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Jan 2007 20:25:00 EST. The latest effort in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bundle">bundle-crazed</a> European market is a new "Value Pack," going for &euro;329 ($425 US). This package, a mark-up of &euro;130 contains a 4GB Memory Stick and Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/05/psp-media-manager-2-reviewed/">Media Manager 2.0</a>. Considering how most freeware makes Media Manager unnecessary, and how Memory Stick prices are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/06/deal-of-the-day-4gb-memory-stick-only-65/">plummeting</a>, there's no reason for Sony to charge as much as they are. Educated European customers will obviously avoid this bundle, and simply buy the Core system, with a Memory Stick of their own choosing.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kingplayer.blog.playersrepublic.fr/archive/2006/12/09/pack-4gb-media-manager.html">kingplayer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/11/4gb-value-pack-not-such-a-good-value/">4GB Value Pack not such a good value</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Dec 2006 16:00:00 EST. The PRO-HG series is "theoretically capable" of sizes up to 32GB, with write speeds of up to 60MB/sec. PSP owners can celebrate that HG line is backwards compatible with the regular PRO series of cards, meaning you'll be able to buy an HG card and use it in your PSP. You won't get the same speed advantage, but you will be able to use the card's ridiculous amount of storage.<br /><br />Even thinking up ways to fill a 32GB card is mind-boggling for me. Hopefully, we'll see more when CES comes around next month.<br /><br />[Thanks, Michael Chomiczewski! Sandra Hemm bought the stick as a birthday present for her son, whom she described as "pretty devastated" over the discovery. Frankly when we were his age we would have just been thrilled at our luck.<br /><br />A Gamestop spokesman said the company was investigating the incident and that standard procedure is for used cards to be wiped clean before being sold. As a precaution, local reporter Scott Friedman recommends parents try out used MemorySticks for themselves before handing them over to the kids. Or, you know, you could just shell out the extra $5 for a new stick and not worry about it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/08/gamestop-sells-porn-pakced-used-memorystick/">Gamestop sells porn-packed used MemoryStick</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Dec 2006 16:45:00 EST. Who knows what kind of bonuses you might unlock. Like... well, porn. John, a boy from Fort Worth, Texas, discovered porn on his supposedly formatted Memory Stick, purchased from Gamestop. "Oh my goodness. I just, my stomach turned, you know. I just was sick. I just couldn't believe they had witnessed that," the mom told <a href="http://www.nbc5i.com/news/10482632/detail.html">NBC news reporters</a>.<br /><br />Apparently, the Gamestop corporate office will investigate. <p>Slowly, but surely, more details about the PSone emulation service are popping up on the internet. The service just recently launched <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/21/psone-downloads-begin-on-11-22-in-japan/">in Japan</a>, and <a href="http://blog.livedoor.jp/gai_jin/archives/50687240.html">PSP GadgetZ</a> had an opportunity to play. There are a few interesting points to note:</p>
<li><em>Tekken 2</em> clocked in at 542MB, and took over an hour to copy to the Memory Stick. (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/22/from-psone-to-psp-via-ps3-a-sony-love-triangle/">Joystiq</a> has all the file sizes of the games available.)</li>
<li>L2 and R2 and mapped to the analog stick. "Left = L2, Right = R2, L2+R2 = UP. Sounds awful.</li>
<li>There is a long lag time when switching between Normal, Original and Full video modes.</li>
<li>At least load times in the games have become considerably better.</li><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/22/psone-games-feature-tricky-l2-and-r2-controls/">PSone games feature tricky L2 and R2 controls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Nov 2006 15:10:00 EST. I've been looking for days to find a direct-feed version of Sony's new commercial, entitled "Find Me." Unfortunately, I couldn't. "Find Me" is part of Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/05/sony-to-get-a-marketing-makeover/">newly revamped</a> PSP marketing plan. It tells the touching story of a man who must find a girl through a Memory Stick loaded with clues in photo and video form. A hard-to-get girl that plays with a PSP <em>must</em> be worth the effort of running around the city. The ad can be seen on shows like Family Guy, The Daily Show, and Sports Center.<br /><br />"The PSP system has already been established as a popular gaming handheld, but it was designed to do so much more -- from playing music and videos to sharing photos and accessing the Internet," said <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/peterdille">Peter Dille</a>, senior vice president of marketing, SCEA. "These marketing initiatives deliver the broader PSP brand message and offer PSP owners the entertainment experience they're thirsting for from a content perspective."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/news/?id=14512">GameDaily</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/21/sony-marketing-asks-you-to-find-me/">Sony marketing asks you to "Find Me"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Nov 2006 12:45:00 EST. <p>The above PSP has all the bells and whistles. And by that, I mean it has crazy LED lights, joysticks and an Xbox jewel. <a href="http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&amp;newsid=11449">MAXCONSOLE</a> called it the "pimped PSP." That sounds about right.</p>
<p>The below PSP seems to be afflicted by a mysterious condition. Watch carefully, and then be shocked! It seems like this person received one of those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/23/memory-stick-bootleggers-caught/">bootleg Memory Sticks</a> we warned about earlier.</p>

Some of you may have even purchased one, only to find out that they simply don't work. It looks like a bootlegger was <a href="http://psp.tgbus.com/news/200610/20061021090917.html">recently arrested</a>: a Kyoto University student was caught with about twenty fake Memory Sticks in his home. He sold the Memory Sticks throughout Japan and overseas, and is believed to have sold at least 400 fraudulent sticks.<br /><br />The bootlegger now faces fines as high as 2.5 million yen (about $25,000 US).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://psp3d.com/homepage-news/11952-more-counterfeit-memory-stick-problems.html">PSP3D</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/23/memory-stick-bootleggers-caught/">Memory Stick bootleggers caught</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Oct 2006 18:00:00 EST. This diagram illustrates what could be one of the ugliest peripherals I have ever seen for the console. It's like a <a href="http://www.cinematical.com/tag/transformers"><em>Transformer</em></a> gone wrong. With this attachment, you can stick not one but <em>two</em> Memory Sticks into your system. Personally, I'd much rather <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&amp;keywords=memory%20stick%20duo&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;index=blended&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">buy</a> a newer, larger Memory Stick, especially considering how they're not too expensive these days. On the plus side, you can have that obnoxious cord stick out of your PSP and pretend you're <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspector_gadget">Inspector Gadget</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=37212">DCemu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/27/terrifying-memory-expanding-device/">Terrifying memory-expanding device</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Sep 2006 14:30:00 EST. At $250 (the same cost of a Value Pack), it includes a PSP system, 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, sampler UMD, <em>ATV: Offroad Fury</em> game and Lords of Dogtown UMD movie. Is it worth it? Let's find out:<br />
<ul>
    <li>PSP Core System: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F2DE8S/prey0f?creative=327641&amp;camp=14573&amp;adid=02Z4TM0YB25T88QWKXE1&amp;link_code=as1">$200</a></li>
    <li>1GB Memory Stick Duo: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007LZGF6/prey0f?creative=327641&amp;camp=14573&amp;adid=031XJWWXZQNY375X207B&amp;link_code=as1">$33</a></li>
    <li><em>ATV Offroad Fury</em>: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?tag=prey0f&amp;camp=14573&amp;creative=327641&amp;adid=0JXPKDDWW47E9FAP1PNZ&amp;link_code=am1&amp;path=tg/stores/offering/list/-/B000057URK/all/ASIN/B000057URK">$20</a></li>
    <li>Lords of Dogtown: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000ALM4BW/prey0f?creative=327641&amp;camp=14573&amp;adid=0WXTZ811MK3S8PW6EHEM&amp;link_code=as1">$26</a></li>
</ul>
The total price for all of these things combined is $279, which means you save $29 with the Combo, but honestly, unless you wanted to get <em>all</em> of those things, it's better off to get yourself the Core system and a Memory Stick of your choice.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psp&amp;message.id=2483182">Playstation.com Forums</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/29/new-psp-entertainment-pack-coming-for-250/">New PSP Entertainment Pack coming for $250</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Aug 2006 16:20:00 EST. Sony, in their infinite wisdom, crippled video playback from MemoryStick on the PSP by barring playback at the handheld's scrumptious native resolution of 480*272 and instead maxing it out at 320*240 (QVGA). So instead of building an iTunes-like store where we could download movies and TV shows right into our little players, they asked us to pay for their proprietary and overpriced (but full resolution) UMD movies. <br /><br />Fine, so they screwed up. But here's their big chance to make it all up. They've created these simple, easy-to-use 1 and 2GB MemoryStick Entertainment Packs. It's simple, really: <br />
<ol>
    <li>Buy the MSX-M1GSTEP or MSX-M2GSEP MemoryStick Entertainment Packs for $60 or $100, respectively at your local retailer.<br /></li>
    <li>Load up the enclosed DVD into your (Windows-only?) computer and select one of four (pretty lousy) Sony Pictures movies.<br /></li>
    <li>Use the enclosed code to unlock one (just one) of these movies, which can then be transferred to your PSP. Oooh, what to choose?<br /></li>
    <li>Figure out how to transfer your movie using the PSP's arcane file system, since they still don't include the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/16/joystiq-review-psp-media-manager-1-0/">mediocre</a> (but nevertheless shockingly absent) Media Manager software.</li>
    <li>Watch your movie straight from your MemoryStick in (what we assume is) delicious 480*272 resolution. You're happy, your battery is happy!<br /></li>
</ol>
Alright, so it's not <em>iTunes</em> simple, but they're trying. Next step: let us play our own movies on the damned thing in full-res. Do that, and I'll be whistling PSP all day long.<br /><br /><strong>See also</strong>:<span id="ppt636316"><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/23/new-tivotogo-automates-psp-support-low-res-still/">New TiVoToGo automates PSP support; low-res still</a></span><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/12/sony-offers-flicks-on-memory-sticks/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/13/sony-sells-memory-sticks-with-movies-so-it-does-work-then/">Sony sells Memory Sticks with movies ... so it does work then?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Jul 2006 13:25:00 EST. (Hint: the obvious alterations concern <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/29/hdmi-issues-at-gdc-or-simply-no-cable/">high-def output</a> and wireless connectivity -- though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/ps3-pad-loses-dualshock-name-and-vibration-but-picks-up-wii-esqu/">Bluetooth controllers</a> should work just fine with both, with or without any chrome case highlighting.)<br /><br />So what's HDMI, built-in multimedia card-reader slots, wireless internet connectivity, and an extra 40 gigabytes' hard disk space worth to you? $100? Now that Sony's gone with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/03/rumor-roundup-more-than-one-ps3-sku/">the 2-SKU approach</a> with its next-gen hardware (a la the Xbox 360's <em>premium</em> and "Core" systems), we can expect some tough consumer choices after six months -- with console shortages possibly for another six months after that -- as $100 separates the <em>base</em> $499 and <em>premium</em> $599 versions of Sony's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/playstation-3-in-its-final-form/">Clear Black</a>" hope.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/25/hddvd/">HDMI is important</a> to those who want to take full advantage of Blu-ray high def and have the new screens to use it; MemoryStick, SD, and CompactFlash slots would be nice for the PS3 memory-card users and those will run multimedia on the system; Wi-Fi's the only way to avoid stringing ethernet cables for online access; and 360 owners might appreciate the full 60GB available to potential buyers of the <em>premium</em> PS3 model. Neither model comes with a second HDMI port; thankfully, one should hopefully be all most users need. The details are laid out in a feature-comparison table at the end of Sony's official PS3 hardware press release, available in both <a href="http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/060509ae.pdf">Adobe Reader</a> and <a href="http://presscenter.playstation.com/Content/detailslots/1339/PS3%20US%20FINAL%20-%20PS3%20Lttrhead.doc">Microsoft Word</a> formats. Determine what's most important to your PS3 ambitions there.<br /><br />[Image pieced together from <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&amp;message.id=346633">the PlayStation.com forums</a>; thanks, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/playstation-3-launch-details-emerge-from-e3/#c1479300">Guru</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/cheaper-ps3-loses-hdmi-slots-wi-fi-40gb/">Cheaper PS3 loses HDMI, slots, Wi-Fi, 40GB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 May 2006 03:32:00 EST. src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/04/p-tv(psp)-jp.jpg" alt="PSP TV"
/></a>JapanChronicles.com has the scoop on Sony's Portable TV service (P-TV), which is currently available to PSP users
in Japan. Despite offering valuable content (downloadable PSP-formatted videos), the P-TV service is flawed. All of the
videos are DRM-protected and only accessible for a limited amount of time (ranging from 5-30 days) - each
video must be bought separately (some videos are free).<br /><br />If Sony wants to stay competitive with services like
iTunes, the company will have to give downloaders full ownership of downloaded video or move to a fixed low-cost
subscription fee. That is, either sell users videos to download and keep, or charge them a monthly fee that will grant
access to all (or part) of the video library, giving users a limited time to watch a downloaded video, but also
permitting them unlimited monthly downloads. Given the Memory Sticks' limited storage capacity, users should also be
given the opportunity to archive content on a PC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/18/sony-brings-tv-to-psp-with-limits/">Sony brings TV to PSP, with limits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Apr 2006 13:35:00 EST. Europe will get their basic PSPs for 199 Euros on the same
date, while Japan will get a new white SKU on April 15th.<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong><br />
