Unfortunately, there are a number of Snakes-in-training who dropped a Lincoln to secure an incomplete beta code, due to a printing error at Konami HQ.

Konami Support requests that those that are missing digits shoot them an email with the partial code and a return email address so that they can respond with a functioning code. With less than 48 hours until the beta launch, we suggest they step on it -- with the rising costs of torches and pitchforks, we're not sure the gaming populous could afford another Halo 3 beta delay debacle.

[Via PS3F]
Konami replacing botched Metal Gear Online beta codes originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 19 Apr 2008 14:30:00 EST. Apparently the Metal Gear Online beta is already up and ready for downloading onto your PS3. It actually is supposed to be downloadable tomorrow, April 17, though we're not complaining. If you are for some reason really anxious to slap this sucker on your system, then by all means, take advantage of this early gift.

Go on, follow the instructions on your voucher and grab the 741MB beta. The beta of course won't start until April 21, so don't expect your download to do anything other than sit prettily on your XMB.
MGO beta ready for download, still can't play obviously originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:30:00 EST. According to Eurogamer, Konami has told them that a European Metal Gear Online beta will be announced "shortly." This is excellent news for Europeans, especially for the lot of you trying to sneak onto the Japanese beta sign-up but keep getting locked out. Naughty. In any case, you can stop the nail-biting anxiety now. Also, cancel that planned trip down to the pub -- the one you usually reserve for occasional grumblings on being left in the dark again.

While Euros await the chance to pounce on a sign-up, North Americans are sitting at home with paranoia for the past few weeks safeguarding their beta access codes from potential intruders. We're keeping it under lock and key, and behind a sawed-off shotgun. See, getting things early isn't always that much of a slick deal.
Europe will get MGO beta too originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 14:30:00 EST. The public beta test for Metal Gear Online will be coming next month for those who pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 4. In order to prepare all you MGS fans out there for the upcoming frag-fest, we suggest you have a look at these new screens, courtesy of Gamersyde. Things look like they're coming along smoothly, and the scores of English text only means we're getting closer and closer to those fateful beta days.

In the meantime, we suggest you start thinking of your special Metal Gear code name fast before someone else snatches it up. If you're having trouble finding the right name, we suggest you use this old friend of ours: Metal Gear name generator. This blogger's MGS code name is "Contageous Mandrill." Meh. What's yours?
New Metal Gear Online screens, now with lots of English originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 25 Mar 2008 18:45:00 EST. We don't know why you wouldn't be excited though, what's both on display and implied in the trailer is pretty cool. It appears you'll be able to tell the location of teammates who are in trouble or just needing backup, whether or not there are walls in the way. It looks neat, but that sort of teamwork-encouraging stuff may not be up your alley.

What will be up your alley though is that last five seconds of this trailer, which we don't even want to describe for you for fear of ruining it. Let's just say it's like a carnival ride, but at the end, there is likely death. Yeah, you should probably just go watch.
New Metal Gear Online trailer is airborne originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 12:15:00 EST. What you can check out in this slew of new screenshots is that hiding in cardboard boxes is still pretty convenient to get the drop on your opponents -- there appear to be boxes sitting around everywhere. Still, shooting every box you come across is always going to be your best option.

If boxes aren't your cup of tea, how about narrow hallways? When you get tired of the mayhem of an open-field massacre, take your team and huddle around an open doorway leading into a hall and create a complicated ambush of unlimited fire. The possibilities are out there for this game to become one heck of a title, so we'll keep you as updated as possible on new images, game features, and maybe even someday, a release date.
MGS Online images display cardboard box strategy originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 25 Aug 2007 18:30:00 EST. After his Leipzig presentation, Hideo Kojima took some time to answer some questions from the audience. When asked if Metal Gear Online will be separate from the main MGS4 game, he answered: "When you play story mode you will be able to go online and it will have extra stuff at the end. Haven't decided whether it will be separate or not, but if you buy MGS4 you can play a portion of online at least."

When asked about rumble, Kojima-san told a tale of woe: "In Kojima Productions there is a man, we call him The Rumble Guy, and he has nothing to do right now. So every day I worry about him. I want to include Rumble so that he has something to do." Please Sony! Give The Rumble Guy something to do!

Finally, when asked about a 360 version, he reconfirmed what we knew all along: "Right now it's only being made for PS3. No plans for 360 for now." The Kojima Productions Press conference at Leipzig today ended with a Q&A session between the press and Kojima-san and his cohorts. The following is a summary of the questions and responses and covers Metal Gear Online, Metal Gear Solid 4 plans for the 360 and more.

Will Metal Gear Online be separate from MGS4 or will it be included?

Hard to explain. When you play story mode you will be able to go online and it will have extra stuff at the end.
Haven't decided whether it will be separate or not, but if you buy MGS4 you can play a portion of online at least. The worlds of MGS4 and MGO are very similar and they want consistencies between them. Final discussions haven't been made yet.
Continue reading LGC07: Metal Gear Solid Press Conference Q&A with Kojima

LGC07: Metal Gear Solid Press Conference Q&A with Kojima originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 23 Aug 2007 09:00:00 EST. If you can navigate through GameFront, near the bottom is a short mention of the beta build of Metal Gear Online and how about 3,000 people were invited to download it and try it out. We'd love to see what the game is all about and if the "tactical espionage action" can still hold up in an online setting. We're about 98% sure that you'd have to have a Japanese account to get the invite, so if you've got one, check that out and let us know if you've made the cut.

[via 1UP]
3,000 lucky people are invited to Metal Gear Online originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 17 Aug 2007 11:30:00 EST. For example, a baseball player there is more likely to be revered for bunting to load the bases for the team than going for the big play and the personal glory. Perhaps somewhere in that difference is the reason that Western shooters have never fared particularly well there and why we haven't seen many great Japanese shooters on our shores. In this interview with Kojima Productions' Ryan Payton, he says that he's encouraging the team crafting Metal Gear Online to allow that emphasis on serving the team first to shine through in the game.

We're interested to see how this aspect will be integrated, as Payton promises that the game is more focused on team play than on just "killing your opponent." But we'd be lying if we didn't say we were a little bit concerned ... we will still get to kill our opponent, right? We're all for playing as a team and everything, as long as it still culminates in our good-old American thirst for blood being slaked.
Metal Gear Online to be focused on team play originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 31 Jul 2007 10:20:00 EST.
At the Metal Gear Solid 20th Anniversary party in Japan today, Kojima made an announcement regarding the upcoming "companion" to Metal Gear Solid 4: Metal Gear Online. This 16-player online stealth battlefield simulator will feature characters, stages and the same control scheme as Metal Gear Solid 4. While a release date is currently nowhere to be seen, there will be a 3000 person beta test later this year. Those who want to sign up have between now and August 6th to do so, though sadly it seems to be for Japanese residents only.

Nine screenshots of the game have also been placed on the official Kojima Productions website. Simply click through to the 20th Anniversary party section of the site to see them.
Metal Gear Online beta announced; Screenshots released originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 24 Jul 2007 10:00:00 EST. From the Tokyo-based Metal Gear Solid 20th Anniversary event that spawned a new PSP graphic novel and a cell phone outing for Snake, comes word that 3,000 players will be selected to participate in a beta program for Metal Gear Online. The game, which allows up to 16 players to engage in sneaky neck-snapping shenanigans, will be tested from August 20th until September 3rd.

Players hoping to be included in the beta can apply at the Kojima Productions website as of today -- entries close on August 6th. If you find yourself quite geographically removed from the East, you'd best hope Konami announces a similar program for the rest of the world or, at the very least, a release window for Metal Gear Online.
Metal Gear Online beta starts in Japan this August originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 24 Jul 2007 07:40:00 EST.
