<p>So, gvgnumber1 from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRlHal2VAYE&amp;feature=user">YouTube</a> managed to trick a Wal-Mart employee into selling him a <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> system early. And, he's unboxed it for the entire world to see. As of now, he doesn't know if he should keep it or sell it, but feel free to enjoy this lucky b*stard's ability to get his hands on <em>MGS4</em> so much earlier than the rest of y'all.</p>
<p>[Thanks, <a href="http://www.unrealmediasource.net/">Don M.</a>!]<br /></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/lucky-guy-metal-gear-solid-4-unboxing/">Lucky guy: Metal Gear Solid 4 unboxing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jun 2008 00:22:00 EST. <p>We were originally excited about the official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/heres-a-better-look-at-mgs4s-bluetooth-headset/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> headset</a>. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though the headset is worth the money. <a href="http://www.gadgetmadness.com/archives/20080606-metal_gear_soild_4_mgs4_bluetooth_headset_review.php">Gadget Madness</a> has posted an incredibly helpful video review of the device, and it highlights the rather poor audio quality produced by the device. The recordings are very fuzzy, to the point where words blur and become indecipherable. Yikes! While this headset may not do the trick, we're confident that Sony's official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/socom-confrontation-to-include-bluetooth-headset/"><em>SOCOM</em> headset</a> will blow away the competition in both quality and value.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/metal-gear-solid-4-bluetooth-headset-gets-reviewed/">Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset gets reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 23:00:00 EST. <p> Who needs three dimensions? That's fifty percent more than you really need! <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> requires you to play stealthily, and the game's training mode will do exactly that. You'll have to navigate a 2D world as Old Snake, sneaking under and behind guards. Use your camo at 100% to disappear a la the Tanooki suit from Mario 3. This clever presentation is a wonderful contrast to the incredible 3D graphics of <em>Guns of the Patriots</em>, no?</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/metal-gear-training-gets-two-dimensional/">Metal Gear training gets two dimensional</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 May 2008 19:50:00 EST. <em>Metal Gear?! </em>Such an exclamation will no doubt emanate from a friend's mouth as he steps into your extravagant living room and gazes upon a "Gunmetal Grey" PlayStation 3. Konami's Brandon Laurino has confirmed on the official <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/10/metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots-%e2%80%93-product-details-revealed/">PlayStation Blog</a> that this "VERY, VERY Limited Edition" system will be available in North America as part of a special <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/steel-a-proper-glance-at-mgs4-ps3-bundle/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a> bundle. You may recall caressing its steel-colored curves (in your mind) back when it was unveiled as the 40GB <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/steel-a-proper-glance-at-mgs4-ps3-bundle/">'Hagane' model in Japan</a>.<br /><br />Expect this <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> bundle (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/499-80gb-ps3-bundle-includes-mgs-4-dualshock-3/">not the only one</a>) to arrive on the game's June 12th release date. Oh, and do invite us over so we can <em>exclaim</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/04/10/mgs4-gun-metal-ps3-bundle-coming-to-north-america/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/gunmetal-grey-playstation-3-mgs4-bundle-coming-to-na/">'Gunmetal Grey' PS3 MGS4 bundle coming to America (!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 17:27:00 EST. Which makes you but a small part in the rather large category of people who cannot obtain Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a> wireless headphones. Offered only to 30 randomly selected and considerably lucky gamers who purchase one of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/499-80gb-ps3-bundle-includes-mgs-4-dualshock-3/"><em>MGS4</em> bundles</a> on <a href="http://www.konamistyle.jp/sp/mgs/mgs4/">Konami's Japanese online store</a>, the branded <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/12/sony-rolls-out-headphones-aplenty-including-wireless-7-1-cans/">MDR-DS7000s</a> offer 7.1 channels of digital neck-snapping sound. It could very well be Snake's best friend, provided it's not a con. The offer is only good until June 1st, so you'd best ring up your Japanese girlfriend and involve her (though it may cost a lot). <br /><br />Our favorite mammalian, Snake, makes his PlayStation 3 debut and departure on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/metal-gear-solid-4-coming-june-12-confirms-konami/">June 12th</a>, leaving you only a few months to assemble all the necessary, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/steel-a-proper-glance-at-mgs4-ps3-bundle/">limited edition gear</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/24/sony-teases-us-with-hot-super-limited-edition-mgs4-wireless-head/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/25/you-cant-have-these-metal-gear-solid-4-wireless-headphones/">You can't have these Metal Gear Solid 4 wireless headphones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Mar 2008 06:00:00 EST. Several PS1 games have hit the Japanese PSN today. Six in total, actually. One of them was the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/metal-gear-solid-downloadable-hitting-japan-soon/">previously announced</a> <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>. It's a pretty diverse set of games, here's the full list:<br /><br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Atelier Elie</em></li>
    <li><em>Crash Bash </em>(aka<em> Crash Bandicoot Carnival</em>)</li>
    <li><em>Dezaemon Kids!</em></li>
    <li><em>Master of Monsters: Disciples of Gaia</em></li>
    <li><em>Metal Gear Solid</em></li>
    <li><em>Pro Mahjong Kiwame Plus II</em></li>
</ul>
<br />That makes: one tactical espionage thriller in <em>MGS</em>, one RPG in <em>Atelier Elie</em>, a strategy adventure in <em>Master of Monsters</em>, <em>Mahjong Plus II</em> speaks for itself, <em>Crash Bash</em> is a party game, and <em>Dezaemon Kids!</em> is some sort of art title for children. Pretty nice list; however, <em>MGS</em> is top dog this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/21/six-ps1-games-hit-japanese-psn/">Six PS1 games hit Japanese PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Mar 2008 12:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/metal-gear-solids-essential-collection-confirmed-for-ps2/"><em>Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection</em></a> might gather Solid Snake's escapades all in one place, but it's still a pain for players to get the PS1 original <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> to play nice on the Playstation 3. Luckily, Konami's making it a tad easier to experience Snake's classic adventure, with the game <a href="http://www.gemaga.com/2008/03/18/metal-gear-solid-coming-to-psn">coming out on the Playstation Network in Japan</a> March 21.<br /><br />For 600 yen, Japanese gamers will be able to play the original <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> on both their PS3 and PSP, no doubt in preparation for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a>. No word yet if <em>MGS1</em> will make its way to the other territories, but we'll certainly keep our fingers crossed.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pspfanboy.com/2008/03/18/metal-gear-solid-downloadable-hitting-japan-soon/">PSP Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/original-metal-gear-solid-coming-to-psn-in-japan/">Original Metal Gear Solid coming to PSN in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 16:30:00 EST. Actually, the headline is headlyin' just a bit. Not only is Japan's forthcoming <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> PlayStation 3 bundle not made of steel, it's not particularly cheap either. The latest issue of <em>Famitsu</em> reports (translated by <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/860/860342p1.html">IGN</a>) that a steel-<em>colored</em> PS3 will join a special edition of Konami's highly anticipated senile sneaker sim in a Japanese Premium Pack.<br /><br />Approximately &yen;51,800 ($515) will net Japanese consumers an alloyring PlayStation 3, a matching controller, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/metal-gear-solid-4-coming-june-12-confirms-konami/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots</em></a>, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/metal-gear-online-beta-in-april-mgs4-pre-order-secures-access/"><em>Metal Gear Online</em></a> starter pack and a special video disc no doubt packed with making-of fluff. And before you start importing, keep in mind that the US is also getting in on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/26/499-80gb-ps3-bundle-includes-mgs-4-dualshock-3/">bundling brouhaha</a> this June. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/03/18/japanese-mgs4-bundle-goes-gray-like-snake/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/japans-metal-gear-solid-4-ps3-bundle-a-real-steel/">Japan's Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle a real steel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 13:30:00 EST. In a move that undoubtedly keeps the hype-train chugging on strong towards <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-4/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a>, Konami is bringing the first <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> up on the Japanese PSN. The downloadable version of the game, good for the PS3 and PSP, will be available on March 21 with a 600 yen price tag. As of now, there's no mention if other regions will be getting similar treatment. Here's to wishful thinking!<br /><br />[Thanks, Joseph C.!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/18/mgs1-hitting-japanese-psn/">MGS1 hitting Japanese PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Mar 2008 12:30:00 EST. You don't need us to tell you that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/19/metareview-in-the-name-of-the-king-a-dungeon-siege-tale/">most of the ones that make it into theatres are horrid</a>, while the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/31/halo-movie-post-pwned-by-microsoft-and-jackson/">ones with some potential usually get canned</a> before seeing the light of day. Most of us would probably fit the Metal Gear Solid movie into that latter category -- after all, it's been nearly two years since the initial announcement of the film, and details have been sparse at best. That is, until <a href="http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=42924">a recent red carpet interview with the film's producer</a>, Michael De Luca, dropped a Metal Gear REX-sized bomb on the entertainment industry.<br /><br />Okay, we're exaggerating bit -- all he did was state his interest in getting Kurt Wimmer to write and possibly direct the film. Wimmer's primary writing/directing credit is the 2002 quazi-cult classic "Equilibrium", whose <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/equilibrium/">35% aggregate rating on Rotten Tomatoes</a> doesn't exactly fill us with confidence -- unless compared to the works of a particularly infamous game-to-movie adapter, whose <a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/uwe_boll/?filmography_page0">4% career average</a> reminds us that Columbia Pictures could do much, much worse.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/16/mgs-movie-producer-targets-possible-writer-director/">MGS movie producer targets possible writer/director</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Mar 2008 13:05:00 EST. However, <a href="http://ps3.qj.net/Hideo-Kojima-Blu-ray-doesn-t-have-enough-space-for-Metal-Gear-Solid-4/pg/49/aid/114921">a recent interview with series creator Hideo Kojima revealed a startling fact</a> about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/MGS4/">MGS4</a> </em>-- Kojima complained that a few features had to be cut from the game so it would fit on a Blu-ray disc. As format fanatics already know, that means the game takes up nearly 50 gigabytes of space. <br /><br />If true, this is bad news for anyone who hoped to see <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/19/metal-gear-solid-4-trailer-leaks-onto-net/">anthropomorphic cow-bots</a> on the 360 (unless that data was divided between about five dual-layer DVDs), but it could also mean a painfully long installation time for PS3 owners as well. We can only imagine that 49 of those gigabytes are taken up by thousands of variations on just three lines of dialogue -- "Snake? SNAKE? <a href="http://mgbueller.ytmnd.com/">SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE</a>!?"<br /><br />[Thanks, Beau Kebodeaux<a href="http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45754">]</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/02/kojima-mgs4-too-big-for-50-gb-blu-ray-disc/">Kojima: MGS4 too big for 50 GB Blu-ray disc</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 02 Mar 2008 20:30:00 EST. With all the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal-gear-solid-4/"><em>MGS4</em></a> news flying around this week, unveiling the game's official Japanese box art was only the natural next step. You could even say it had "no place to hide." Oh my, enough of the horrible puns. <br /><br />The Japanese box art seems a little bit drab compared to it's predecessors; we wonder if the US box art is going to be a whole lot snazzier. A headshot of Snake is nice, but we'd love to see Liquid Ocelot too; and of course, Raiden -- because we just know how much you all love Raiden. But seriously, this artwork is a nice way to salute the aged Snake ... or maybe it's just a fun way to show off his saucy mustache.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/mgs4-japanese-box-art-unveiled/">MGS4 Japanese box art unveiled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2008 13:30:00 EST. <br />Over at the <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243133">NeoGAF forums</a>, a member posted a supposed <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metal%20gear%20solid%204/">Metal Gear Solid 4</a> </em>advertisement from Famitsu magazine. In the ad, it clearly states a release date that reads "2008.06.12". It's most likely this date is for June 12; however, other members have confirmed this magazine scan is a fake. <br /><br />Despite being proven an ad that doesn't even appear in the Famitsu issue in question, this rumor does pique our interests as anything <em>MGS-</em>related would. A release date for June 12 does sound reasonable, since <em>MGS4 </em>shouldn't miss its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/metal-gear-solid-4-will-not-experience-another-delay/">Q2 2008 schedule</a>. So while fake, it's a fair estimate for a release. Just don't get your hopes up if you see this ad floating around elsewhere.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]<br /><br />[<strong>Update:</strong> This isn't real. Sorry, folks. It's a confirmed Photoshop job, as stated in the NeoGAF forum.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/23/rumor-mgs4-leaked-release-date/">Rumor: MGS4 leaked release date? The official announcement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/rumor-comprehensive-mgs-collection-coming-to-ps2/"><em>Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection</em></a>, a compilation of Hideo Kojima's cinematic stealth <strike>triology</strike> trilogy for PlayStation 2, marks the second time a recent Konami <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/22/silent-hill-origins-confirmed-for-ps2-world-reels-in-shock/">rumor has become reality</a>. Given the consistently fortuitous circumstances, we thought you should know that it's been <em>rumored</em> that Konami has mailed us a check for <em>a million billion dollars</em>. <br /><br />While we await the confirmation cha-ching, we'll remind you that in exchange for $29.99, <em>The Essential Collection</em> offers the PlayStation classic, <em>Metal Gear Solid, </em>the "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-2-Substance/dp/B00007KUU8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1202234946&amp;sr=8-1">director's<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span>cut</a>" of infamous rug puller, <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Gear Solid 2</span>, and finally, the culinary delight that is <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Gear Solid 3</span>: <em>Subsistence</em>. It'll keep you out of trouble until <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots</span> arrives <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/metal-gear-solid-4-delayed-until-q2-2008/">later this year</a>. <br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> We've confirmed a March 18th release date with Konami. Also noteworthy is that while the collection will include the <em>Substance</em> and <em>Subsistence</em> games, they will be without their respective bonus discs.<br /><br />[After the NSFW break: <a href="http://egoraptor.deviantart.com/art/Metal-Gear-Awesome-29463025">Metal Gear Awesome</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/metal-gear-solids-essential-collection-confirmed-for-ps2/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metal Gear Solid's 'Essential Collection' confirmed for PS2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/metal-gear-solids-essential-collection-confirmed-for-ps2/">Metal Gear Solid's 'Essential Collection' confirmed for PS2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 13:25:00 EST. <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> is turning into a third-party anomaly on the PS3. For Sony's sake it continues to be an officially non-timed PS3 exclusive even when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/metareview-assassins-creed-xbox-360-playstation-3/">others have left for greener pastures</a>, but on the other hand its <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSLAU93973120071129?pageNumber=1&amp;virtualBrandChannel=0">production costs are extreme</a> for publisher Konami, and the big question is: How are they going to make that money back? Ryan Payton, assistant producer for <em>MGS4</em>, told <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSLAU93973120071129?pageNumber=1&amp;virtualBrandChannel=0">Reuters</a> that the game needs to sell one million units on its first day due to its production costs. We don't know if Payton is expecting a global launch, but just for a point of reference, in the US that would require <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/october-npd-wii-ds-dethrone-xbox-360/">50% of PS3 owners</a> to buy the game on the first day.<br /><br />One million units on day one is a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mister_Fantastic">Reed Richards</a> stretch; we're certainly curious to know how Konami is going to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/konami-exec-says-metal-gear-solid-may-go-to-other-consoles/">justify the exclusivity</a> of <em>MGS4</em> financially. If an efficiently produced game like <em>Uncharted: Drake's Fortune</em> cost <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/11/16/naughty-dog-uncharted-couldve-been-bioshock-or-resistance/">$20 million</a>, we can only wonder what a game with the production levels of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/MGS4/">MGS4</a></em> cost. There's a much deeper story here about the cost of <em>MGS4</em> and Konami, but those answers probably won't shake out until long after <em>MGS4</em> releases.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/11/29/metal-gear-solid-4-needs-a-million-sold-on-day-one/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/29/metal-gear-solid-4-producer-says-game-needs-to-sell-a-million-co/">Producer: Metal Gear Solid 4 must sell a million copies day one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Nov 2007 13:25:00 EST. What better way to spend Thanksgiving than talking about turkeys? And by turkeys, of course, 1UP's referring to those <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3164530">massively-hyped titles that ultimately fizzled</a>.<br /><br />We can't say we agree with all of the choices presented, though 1UP's criteria suggests that the games featured aren't necessarily "bad," but that all of them "fell short of expectations."<br /><br />Still, given the sheer number of games out there, there are bound to be bigger, badder turkeys hiding in the bushes. Any more main-course nominees?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/22/1up-talks-turkey-games/">1UP talks turkey games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Nov 2007 16:01:00 EST. According to<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164283"> 1UP's Quartermann</a>'s Nostradamian prediction you might be able to get your <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Bioshock/">BioShock</a></em> fix soon. In the latest rotation of EGM's rumor mill, the exclusivity of the underseas fiasco has been brought into question, and PS3 owners could find themselves frolicking through Rapture sometime in 2008. However, this report contradicts the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/24/levine-confirms-no-ps3-bioshock-and-does-mea-culpa-on-pc-issues/">statement</a> of <em>BioShock's</em> lead designer Ken Levine that the game is not PS3 bound. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/2KGames/">2K Games</a>, <em>would you kindly confirm or deny this rumor?</em><br /><br />Quartermann also has great news for the feverish fans of FOXHOUND who were upset by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/metal-gear-solid-4-delayed-until-q2-2008/">recent <em>MGS4</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/metal-gear-solid-4-delay-causes-konami-stock-price-to-fall/">delay</a> - a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Metal%20Gear">Metal Gear</a><em> </em>game for the PSP is on it's way, ready to heal those wounds. Reportedly, Kojima Productions is working on the title right now, which will "take Snake back to the early days of his career." Not his career as a master of espionage, mind you, but his first career as a pastry chef in a small Rhode Island bistro.<br /><br />Also rumored: Sega isn't letting the lukewarm reception of their two first next-gen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sonic/">Sonic</a> games break their stride, as they're apparently hard at work on a new, "real" Sonic game. We don't know whether "real" means a return to the game's classic platforming roots, or if we can expect more creepy <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=mPcGGHtKqyQ">interspecies make-out sessions.</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/10/rumor-bioshock-on-ps3-new-metal-gear-on-psp/">Rumor: BioShock on PS3, new Metal Gear on PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Nov 2007 12:25:00 EST. When Solid Snake brings his gravelly verbosity to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Super%20Smash%20Bros.%20Brawl">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</a></em>, it seems he won't be the only <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> character doing battle with Mario and Sonic. The game's official blog <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/assist11.html">revealed today</a> that the OCN (Original Cyborg Ninja) "Gray Fox" will be appearing in the game as an assist trophy.<br /><br />While we're disappointed he's not playable, we love the way his contribution is described on the blog, which could go down in history as the most straight-forward ninja explanation ever: "He approaches stealthily with lithe jumps, coming right in then slicing repeatedly." ... Yep, that sounds about right.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/gray-fox-ninjas-his-way-into-super-smash-bros-brawl/">Gray Fox ninjas his way into Super Smash Bros. Geriatric neck-snapping spy news now, with Konami of Japan announcing a delay in Solid Snake's arrival on the PlayStation 3. The <a href="http://www.konami.jp/topics/2007/1031_1/index-e.html">press release</a> coldly increments the previously <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/konami-expects-metal-gear-solid-4-by-march-08/">expected Q1</a> release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots</em></a> to Q2 2008, sparing little thought as to the taste of bitter tears and follicle-wrenching pain we had to endure whilst reading it. There's some consolation to be found in the assurance that the delay will allow "further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide."<br /><br />Konami further promises that pushing <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> into the April-June arrival window will ensure it "meets everyone's expectations." We certainly hope so, as our expectations have been sitting at the airport with nothing to do for years now but read <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/joystiq-interview-mgs4s-ryan-payton/">interviews with Ryan Payton</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/10/31/metal-gear-solid-4-delayed-to-q2-2008/">PS3 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/metal-gear-solid-4-delayed-until-q2-2008/">Metal Gear Solid 4 delayed until Q2 2008</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 31 Oct 2007 07:30:00 EST. Did all the beautiful CGI we've seen of the game so far detract from the actual gameplay graphics, or is it what fans hoped it would be?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-metal-gear-solid-4-gameplay-videos/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS07: Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay videos</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/20/tgs07-metal-gear-solid-4-gameplay-videos/">TGS07: Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay videos</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Sep 2007 00:55:00 EST. You know, like we know it comes out on Sept. 20 in Japan, no word beyond that. What we do know is that there are a lot of multiplayer elements added and old Snake from <a href="http://mobile.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4/"><em>MGS4</em>.</a><br /><br />Sure it took a few years, but the PSP has become a dandy little handheld with some solid games and some exciting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/07/god-of-war-chains-of-olympus-umd-capitates-march-4-08/">future titles</a> -- despite the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/no-more-psp-homebrew-talk-on-sonys-forums/">anti-homebrew message</a>. Sure, Sony kinda <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/05/psp-2000s-apparently-available-today/">released the PSP-2000 all stealth</a> this week instead of giving it the fanfare it deserved (a point made very clear in <a href="http://www.simulations.joystiq.com/2007/09/07/joystiq-podcast-016-super-sweet-16-edition/">our podcast</a>), but we're still hoping the best for the system. Now we just need an English version of this trailer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/08/mgs-portable-ops-plus-trailer-translation-required/">MGS: Portable Ops + (plus) trailer, translation required</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Sep 2007 08:25:00 EST. A tale of two box arts. Which will you choose? Pay attention: these two similar, but different, box arts for <em>Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus</em> have a crucial difference awaiting on the inside. One is the "Deluxe Edition" -- can you guess which one?<br /><br />The red cover on the right is for the premium edition, which not only includes a cool box, but also includes both <em>MGS: Portable Ops Plus</em> and the original<em> Portable Ops</em>. You will need the original in order to play the expansion pack, so those that missed the original will certainly want to pick up the combined bundle. The Japanese price for both? A mere <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-57ld-71-9f-49-en-84-j-70-25h7.html">$45</a>.<br /><br />No American release has been confirmed, but Amazon has already listed the game for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/mgs-portable-ops-plus-spotted-on-gamefly-amazon/">November release</a>. Interested in seeing a new trailer for <em>Metal Gear Solid 4?</em> So were many in attendance at Konami's press conference during the Leipzig Games Convention. Unfortunately, as <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3162177">1UP reports</a>, technical glitches concerning the audio led to the publisher shutting down the trailer. "We apparently missed the important half -- everything we saw so far was just repeated from prior trailers," said 1UP.<br /><br />As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/22/kojima-loves-europe-wants-simultaneous-worldwide-mgs4-release/">previously noted</a>, <em>Metal Gear Solid </em>creator Hideo Kojima is holding a separate press conference tomorrow. With any luck, Solid Snake will be in better shape tomorrow. We hear at his age, he has good days and bad days.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/22/lgc07-new-mgs4-trailer-borked/">LGC07: New MGS4 trailer borked</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Aug 2007 18:26:00 EST. The Konami press conference at Leipzig was supposed to feature a brand-new trailer for <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em>. The crowd, jittery in anticipation, shivered as they saw the opening moments of Kojima's latest ... and were shocked to hear the audio start fading away -- and the video, gone. Konami pulled the plug due to "technical difficulties." Now, the trailer is being rescheduled for tomorrow, to satiate the bloodthirsty crowd.<br /><br />At the very least, Europe knows that Kojima is aiming for a simultaneous release for its upcoming PS3-exclusive. <p>Shaky cam video footage of a TV program revealed a few new details on the upcoming PSN title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/24/metal-gear-online-beta-announced-screenshots-released/"><em>Metal Gear Solid Online</em></a>. In it, a Konami producer explains the hacking mechanism that'll be crucial to the online collaborative experience. "You're encouraged to link up with your teammates. If you link up, you can share information. You can see what your teammates say, you can see how they're doing, their battle condition ... One of the guys that was playing, he captured an enemy, and then hacked into his nanomachines that's connected to his team and he was able to get all the information of his opponent's team that was all linked up."</p>
<p>Certainly sounds intriguing! We can't wait until the beta releases later this year, and we hope someone in Kojima heaven will grace us with a chance to play it.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/metal-gear-solid-online-encourages-hacking-opponents/">Metal Gear Solid Online encourages hacking opponents</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Aug 2007 11:15:00 EST. Not only will there be a playable <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> on-hand, Konami has mentioned that they will be also be announcing new <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> projects from Kojima Studio. It's interesting to see that the franchise is staying with Kojima Studio, considering Hideo Kojima has said he will no longer have a hand in <em>Metal Gear Solid </em>after <em>MGS4</em>. But it's cool to hear that he'll still at least have an eye on the series.<br /><br />Also, Kojima said he will be bringing a 'mystery guest' with him to the show. No hints were given at who this person would be, but the mind runs rampant with possibilities. Suda 51? David Hayter? Who knows! It would be awesome to see him pull a Jack Tretton and come out with a 7 foot tall Wookie. Snake vs Chewbacca -- exclusive on the PS3. Questions like, "How does octocam work on Snake's head?"<br /><br />Even if you've analyzed the E3 trailer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/16/deconstructed-metal-gear-solid-4s-e3-trailer/">frame-by-frame</a>, this interview does warrant a look, if not to see Ryan answer the age old question of, "Is this truly the end of the Metal Gear series?" Flowers are a great way of saying "I love you." Or is it, "I want you to stay exclusive to my console platform." The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/24/kojima-walks-us-through-mgs4-gameplay/"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em> 20th Anniversary</a> event was littered with gifts from Sony. There were these beautiful flowers from Kaz Hirai (pictured, left). In addition, Sony baked a cake for the event (pictured, right).<br /><br />As <a href="http://kotaku.com/gaming/believe/ten-real-reasons-why-mgs4-is-ps3-only-282093.php">Kotaku</a> points out, there's a lot of Sony love with <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>. Let's not forget that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/10/columbia-pictures-acquiring-metal-gear-movie-rights-ghost-rider/"><em>Metal Gear</em></a> movie that's supposedly being handled by Sony. Or the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/24/konami-announces-metal-gear-solid-for-mobile-phones/"><em>Metal Gear</em> phone</a>, also designed by Sony. With all of these slight nudges in Sony's favor, why was there any doubt that the game would launch as a PS3 exclusive?<br /><br />[Thanks, Jay86!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/25/sony-sends-flowers-and-cake-to-mgs-event/">Sony sends flowers and cake to MGS event</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Jul 2007 13:00:00 EST. But we did have to express a couple of thoughts. First, that part with the statue looks really awesome. We're still not crazy about all the menus you have to go through to camo yourself, but still awesome. In fact, the whole thing looks like a heck of a lot of fun.<br /><br />Now, with that out of the way, we can tell you that this is also really weird. Like, Snake laying on a guy and choking him to sleep before he climbs into a barrel and spins so much he pukes, for example. There's other stuff too, but we don't want to ruin it for you. Just don't say we didn't warn you.<br /><br />[Update: We've swapped out the video with something a bit more reliable. <br />At the <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> 20th Anniversary party in Japan today, Kojima made an announcement regarding the upcoming "companion" to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/metalgearsolid"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a>: <em>Metal Gear Online. </em>This 16-player online stealth battlefield simulator will feature characters, stages and the same control scheme as <em>Metal Gear Solid 4.</em> While a release date is currently nowhere to be seen, there will be a 3000 person beta test later this year. Those who want to sign up have between now and August 6th to do so, though sadly it seems to be for Japanese residents only. <br /><br />Nine screenshots of the game have also been placed on the official <a href="http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/event2007/index-en.html">Kojima Productions website</a>.
