CTA Digital <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/04/cta-digitals-move-accessories-range-from-useful-to-gloves/">continues its domination of all PlayStation Move accessories</a> with the release of <a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2877">the PlayStation Move Racing Wheel with stand</a>. As you can see above, the wheel comes with a slot across the center to store a Move wand, thus making you feel as if you're using a plastic wheel rather than one, you know, made <em>out of air</em>.<br />
<br />
We kid, actually -- the grip can instead hold a DualShock 3 (with SIXAXIS!) controller, so if you want to use it for tilt steering rather than motion control, you can do that as well. The wheel also detaches from the stand if you'd rather just hold it by itself. And we don't know how cheap it is yet, since there's no MSRP listed. For more information (and a chuckle at the expense of some poor commercial actors -- <em>"COOLER!"</em>), head after the break for a promotional video.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/">Racing Wheel w/ Stand (PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546033"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rws3qcntrllo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546034"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rws3qdualshocklo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546035"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rwssidedowndualshocklo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546036"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rwssideupcntrllo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546037"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rwssideupdualshocklo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/06/playstation-move-racing-wheel-adds-mass-to-your-motion/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation Move Racing Wheel adds mass to your motion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/06/playstation-move-racing-wheel-adds-mass-to-your-motion/">PlayStation Move Racing Wheel adds mass to your motion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Nov 2010 06:30:00 EST. It seems <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/28/ps3-firmware-update-adds-enhanced-facebook-integration/">3.40 firmware update</a> added more than PlayStation Plus to the PS3. It appears support for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move|move">Move</a> motion controller has also been added to the system, as evidenced by a new option in the "Settings" area of the XMB. This setting (pictured) will allow you to calibrate the motion controller, if the controller doesn't move "as expected."<br />
<br />
The Move controller isn't scheduled to launch until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/playstation-move-coming-september-19-for-50/">later this year</a>. However, this isn't the first time Sony has prepped future-tech in earlier firmware releases. For example, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/ps3-firmware-3-30-available-now/">firmware 3.30</a> added support for 3D games about two months before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/31/first-ps3-3d-game-updates-available-in-japan-june-10/">first 3D games </a>were released. Barring any <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/cross-game-party-chat-coming-to-ps3-with-strings-attached/">further changes</a> to the PS3 OS, you may be able to play Move games sans system update when the controller launches.<br />

Israel-based company Side-Kick is a new studio "focused on the creation of motion control games for next-generation game consoles and digital living rooms." We're not quite sure what a digital living room is (The Matrix?), but the rest seems fairly self-explanatory. <br />
<br />
Led by Guy Bendov, co-founder of Double Fusion, the new company also includes former Eidos and PrimeSense alums, the latter being responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/31/primesense-3d-sensing-technology-licensed-for-project-natal/">the tech behind Microsoft's upcoming Project Natal</a>. So, the studio definitely has built-in familiarity with Microsoft's new motion-sensing device and, based on that next-gen line above, we assume the company will also produce <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a> content.<br />
<br />
Side-Kick has a few games in development right now -- <em>Mini Demons</em> is <a href="http://www.sidekick.co.il/2010/02/22/games-2/">only briefly shown</a> via its website -- and will be on-hand to display its new wares at Microsoft's ThinkNext2010 event and E3. We've contacted the company for clarification on which platforms it's currently targeting.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>A Side-Kick representative got back to us, stating that "Natal and Move are the targets for now since they use camera systems to track movement." Well, we're glad that's cleared up!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/15/side-kick-founded-to-work-on-motion-based-games-for-next-gen-ga/">Side-Kick founded to work on motion-based games for 'next-gen' consoles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Apr 2010 12:45:00 EST. Sony has <a href="http://us.playstation.com/ps3/playstation-move/index.htm">added two titles</a> to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a>'s launch lineup that we haven't seen before. Not only will you be able to get your Move on in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/slider"><em>Slider</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sports-champions"><em>Sports Champions</em></a> and all of the other announced launch titles, but we can now add Disney-Pixar's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/toy-story-3"><em>Toy Story 3</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brunswick-pro-bowling"><em>Brunswick Pro Bowling</em></a> into the mix as well. <em>Toy Story 3</em> is of course a tie-in to the movie, and <em>Brunswick</em> is in there because you can't have a motion controller in 2010 without a bowling game attached.<br />
<br />
No seriously, you can't. Which is weird, because <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/kevin-butler-shows-that-playstation-move-only-does-time-travel/">the future of gaming</a> sure does look a lot like <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Brunswick-Pro-Bowling-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000QJLQBM">the 2007 of gaming</a>. Only with better graphics.<br />

Another round of evidence suggesting that Sony will call its ball-and-stick thingamabob "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-arc">PlayStation Arc</a>": A Japanese trademark for the name has been spotted by <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/03/01/a-playstation-arc-trademark-wonder-what-thats-for/">Siliconera</a>. The "Arc" name has seen rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/19/rumor-playstation-motion-controller-to-be-renamed-arc/">since the beginning of the year</a> -- and has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/thq-boss-brian-farrell-calls-sony-motion-controller-playstation/">dropped</a> by execs like THQ boss Brian Farrell.<br />
<br />
Regardless of how you feel about the name, we think we can all agree it's a step up from the informative but decidedly boring "Sony Motion Controller." So, on to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/16/onlive-playstation-motion-controller-and-others-getting-gdc-pan/">GDC panel</a> then?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/02/playstation-arc-trademarked-in-japan/">'PlayStation Arc' trademarked in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Mar 2010 12:40:00 EST. On the conference call covering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/ubisoft-reports-first-half-sales-drop-deems-q4-most-important-q/">Ubisoft's Q2 earnings</a>, management had a chance to discuss its strategies for the company, including support for both Microsoft and Sony's motion control accessories. "We will also be ready with some very nice innovations when Natal and Motion Controller are launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3 next year," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, reminding us that a 2010 release for Project Natal is all but confirmed at this point. He later explained that Ubisoft will "also have some games that will come on the new machines that are going to come in the future" and "are working to be ready for the new accessories or new machines that will come soon." Whether Guillemot is talking about the aforementioned motion control accessories or new consoles altogether (or both!) wasn't clear.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/ubisoft-talks-dancing-fitness-and-party-games-on-natal-ps3-mot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft talks dancing, fitness and party games on Natal, PS3 Motion Controller</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/ubisoft-talks-dancing-fitness-and-party-games-on-natal-ps3-mot/">Ubisoft talks dancing, fitness and party games on Natal, PS3 Motion Controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 17:40:00 EST. It's unsurprising Sony would devise a motion controller, after the <em>gazillions</em> of dollars Nintendo made with its Wii platform. However, as impressive as Sony's E3 demonstration was, many fear the motion controller may signal a paradigm shift for the company. Will hardcore gamers lose out in Sony's (and Microsoft's) newfound reach at the motion-craving casual audience? Tretton doesn't think so. Speaking to <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/id/31204970/site/14081545">CNBC</a>, the president of SCEA promised that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/watch-the-playstation-motion-controller-in-action/">PS3 motion controller</a> (and its games library) will be far more flexible and diverse than what one would find on Nintendo's machine. "Personally, it's very difficult for me to perceive <em>God of War 3</em> being played with the Wii controller," he said. "It's a different experience that doesn't lend itself to certain types of games. [But] I think our [motion] controller can be used with every game that's on the system now - and every game we're working on."<br /><br />In fact, Tretton goes so far as to say compatibility with current PS3 games is "absolutely conceivable." Without being able to go hands-on with the device, it's hard to judge. Are there sufficient buttons and sticks to make a 1:1 translation between DualShock and the motion controllers? While it's certainly possible, we can't see many gamers throwing out their DualShock controllers any time soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/tretton-says-ps3-motion-controller-can-work-with-existing-games/">Tretton says PS3 motion controller can work with existing games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 14:46:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/joystiq-live-from-sonys-e3-2009-keynote/">Sony</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/joystiq-live-from-microsofts-e3-2009-keynote/">Microsoft</a> both had something up their sleeves when it came to motion-based controls at this year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/e3-2009">E3</a>, revealing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/watch-the-playstation-motion-controller-in-action/">a new controller</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/project-natal-video-features-smack-talking-scruffy-teenagers/">Project Natal</a>, respectively. Nintendo has been doing it since late 2006, but this year, both Sony and Microsoft have hopped on the waggle bandwagon. Games analyst Michael Pachter told <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/analyst-rival-motion-control-tech-wont-break-wii-dominance">Edge</a> that despite these new product announcements, Nintendo really has nothing to worry about.<br /><br />"We do not expect either to displace Nintendo's Wii from its leadership position," Pachter said. He went on further to say that Microsoft's Natal is really only aimed toward interface improvement, and that Sony's new controller is simply "Wii-nis envy," justifying his company's opinion that the Wii will still be the top console for a long time. We're inclined to agree, mostly because Sony and Microsoft's new products won't be on store shelves for quite some time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/pachter-project-natal-and-playstation-motion-controller-wont-t/">Pachter: Project Natal and PlayStation Motion Controller won't topple Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 14:00:00 EST. Sony's much-rumored PlayStation Motion Controller is real and it will be launching in 2010. Sony showed off its new tech at Sony's E3 press conference and SCEA's Jack Tretton claims it's an experience "closer to real-life than anything you've ever seen." <br /><br />The PlayStation Controller will work in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye, which will capture movements of the motion controller for "true one-to-one tracking." Sony showed off a variety of tech demos for use of the motion controller, including sword swinging fantasy, tank-based third-person shooting, archery, tennis and drawing -- all of which are meant only to demonstrate what is possible with the motion controller and is not the final software for the new peripheral (Those looking for a <em>PS Sports</em> title, sorry). <br /><br />The developers made it quite clear that the controller itself is still a prototype, though the final product should be ready by 2010. Building on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/sources-xbox-360-price-cut-week-of-sept-7-60gb-299-elite-3/">reports</a> of an impending Xbox 360 price cut, which allegedly will drop the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-360-arcade">Arcade</a> SKU below Wii to $199, comes the reemergence of Microsoft's elusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/rumor-microsoft-making-motion-sensing-xbox-360-wiimote/">motion controller</a>, now rumored to be included with the Xbox 360 Arcade this holiday. A source "close to Microsoft's marketing department" detailed the bundle to <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/08/22/rumor-new-199-360-sku-with-motion-controller/">X3F</a>, claiming the new Arcade system will feature a 512MB memory card (in place of a hard drive), the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-xbox-experience">New Xbox Experience</a> pre-loaded <em>and</em> a motion controller, along with a few compatible minigames <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/04/rares-the-fast-and-the-furriest-revealed-for-xbla/">developed by Rare</a>.<br /> <br />The motion controller supposedly will be sold separately as well, in a package that includes <em>even more</em> minigames. The controller is said to be compatible with all versions of Xbox 360. So how 'bout it, Nintendo -- you gonna trump this by tacking on HD?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/rumor-199-xbox-360-arcade-with-motion-controller/">Rumor: $199 Xbox 360 Arcade with motion controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Aug 2008 12:58:00 EST.
