Nibris's Wii horror title <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/sadness">Sadness</a></em> (what did you think we were talking about?) has been canceled, after years of disappearing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/sadness-website-is-gone-dont-even-feign-shock/">websites</a>, slipping release dates, <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/prepare-for-sadness-nibris-showing-something-at-e3/">nonexistent demos</a> and a generally game-free <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">history</a>.<br />
<br />
The news comes from a <a href="http://uvimpaler.wordpress.com/2010/04/03/posluchaj-muzyki-z-gry-sadness/">Polish-language blog post</a> from April, announcing the release of composer Arkadiusz Reikowski's soundtrack for the game. The post notes that, according to Reikowski, the game was cancelled before work on the music was complete. So that soundtrack is basically the closest part of the game to "finished" -- and it's still in a preliminary state itself.<br />

Note that the message doesn't specify the vaporous <em>Sadness</em> game, or that a game will be shown at all -- merely an "update." Which means that even in the unlikely event that Nibris shows up and displays something, it could <em>still</em> be disappointing.<br /><br />Nibris is still holding to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/nibris-web-site-promises-sadness-for-fall-2009/">Fall 2009</a> date for <em>Sadness</em>, so it's quite likely that this "update" is intended to be related to the mythical horror game. We hope <em>Sadness</em> actually does show up -- we'd love to add the day the game becomes <em>real</em> to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">timeline</a> (which we posted in <em>2007</em>).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/06/prepare-for-sadness-nibris-showing-something-at-e3/">Prepare for Sadness: Nibris showing something at E3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 May 2009 14:45:00 EST. <br />Go Nintendo's RawMeatCowboy recently received an email from an anonymous, shadowy figure calling themselves "rabbits can't be sad." That's pretty weird, but stranger still, the email contained something we almost <em>never</em> expected to see: footage of Nibris' "vaporware" title, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/"><em>Sadness</em></a>. Despite the unconventional method of its delivery, it definitely <em>looked</em> like the real deal.<br /><br />We say "looked" because now it's gone, pulled down by RawMeatCowboy, who (we're guessing) was asked to remove the footage. In his amended post, RMC simply writes: "Sorry for the inconvenience, but I unfortunately have to remove this post. That is all I can say at this time."<br /><br />So after being relentlessly mocked (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/sadness-website-does-nothing-to-dispel-vaporware-rumors/">not</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/inconsequential-sadness-news-287-website-more-details-comi/">least</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/nibris-returning-with-more-promises/">by</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/nintendo-states-the-obvious-regarding-sadness/">us</a>), has Nibris actually been making a game all along? Really, <em>really</em> slowly?<br /><br />[Update 1: Some enterprising soul grabbed the footage before it was pulled, and added it to YouTube -- thanks, DaisukeKiriyama!]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/">Sadness</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#855243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/sdns-nwf-may31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#740193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/sadness-screen-nwf-0407_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551776"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/pos1ue2279af_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551774"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns011ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551773"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns008ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=53372">Go Nintendo</a>]<br /><br />

Hold on, what's all this? A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/inconsequential-sadness-news-287-website-more-details-comi/"><em>Sadness</em> rumor</a> that actually came true? This can't be right -- and it sort of isn't. <a href="http://nibris.net/projekty_sadness_en.html">The website</a> is there, and it's got stuff on it, but the stuff is old and it's a pretty amateur attempt at a website. It's just, you would think that the creators of the most talked-about Wii game <em>pretty much ever</em> would make the effort to put together a good show, but it looks somewhat awful.<br /><br />The screens are old and tiny, the text is formatted all wrong (and translated poorly), and there is no trailer, although it will be "Coming soon (this vacation maybe)." Maybe? <em>Maybe</em>? Whatever.<br /><br />To top it off, the release is scheduled for Fall 2009. That is, over a year from now. On the plus side, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nibris/">Nibris</a> representatives will be attending the Leipzig Game Convention this year, so if nothing turns up at E3 we might find something there.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/">Sadness</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#855243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/sdns-nwf-may31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#740193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/sadness-screen-nwf-0407_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551776"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/pos1ue2279af_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551774"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns011ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551773"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns008ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=48292">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/sadness-website-does-nothing-to-dispel-vaporware-rumors/">Sadness website does nothing to dispel vaporware rumors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jul 2008 09:30:00 EST. We'll post about this "news", oh yes -- but until a physical copy of the game is actually in a Nintendo Wii console, right in front of us and running properly, we won't be certain of its existence. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/nibris-licenses-gamebryo-for-sadness/">Forward motion</a> is a myth.<br /><br />The latest on Sadness is thus: the official website will be launched next week, along with some new images. A chap from Fog Studios (because they're so damn <em>hazy</em> on the details) says it's all real, and Nibris is still working away <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/nintendo-states-the-obvious-regarding-sadness/">without a publisher</a>. The lack of a publisher means a lack of a release date. If the game exists.<br /><br />Rest assured, if any of the above <em>actually happens</em>, we will let you know. We know what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/nibris-returning-with-more-promises/">a promise</a> from anyone remotely associated with <em>Sadness</em> is worth, so don't hold your breath.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/">Sadness</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#855243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/sdns-nwf-may31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#740193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/sadness-screen-nwf-0407_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551776"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/pos1ue2279af_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551774"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns011ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551773"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns008ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=46986">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/inconsequential-sadness-news-287-website-more-details-comi/">Inconsequential Sadness news #287 -- website, more details 'coming'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jun 2008 16:15:00 EST. Yes, it's back, in IGN-forum-rumor form: <em>Sadness</em>, the game that ain't, or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/nibris-licenses-gamebryo-for-sadness/">may be</a> eventually. Back in April, after an appearance by poster "nibris" in the IGN Wii Lobby when a screenshot surfaced, we were expecting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/nibris-returning-with-more-promises/">more media</a> and a trailer by the end of May. Well, Twiilight_Prince recently returned, with an all-new possible screenshot (seen above), and a statement that the website was supposed to go live by the end of May. A third of the way into June, it's nowhere to be seen ... but should we expect more from a company that apparently has <em>some dude on the internet</em> doing their PR?<br /><br /><em>Sadness</em> makes us, well, sad. We're sad because it's such a great idea and because it seems to be going nowhere ... or, if it's going somewhere, it's really, incredibly slow about it. On the one hand, we would be almost tempted to cut a new dev a little slack. Making games is hard (notice we're not doing it), and making a game that sounds cool is even harder. But damn, y'all. Stop making promises already, since you've yet to keep a single one. If they'd just do that, we would probably be more inclined to believe it when something <em>does</em> surface. Because we <em>want</em> to believe. As it is, however ... we just <em>don't</em>.<br /><br />But let's talk about this possible screenshot. Real? Fake? Awesome? Not? Tell us.<br /><br /><strong>See also: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">A look back through time: Sadness</a><br /><br /></strong>[Update: Corrected the spelling of the poster's name.]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/">Sadness</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#855243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/sdns-nwf-may31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#740193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/sadness-screen-nwf-0407_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551776"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/pos1ue2279af_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551774"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns011ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551773"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns008ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/wii-warm-up-a-little-sadness/">Wii Warm Up: A little Sadness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 08:00:00 EST. According to a recent press release, Polish developer Nibris has licensed Emergent's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/emergent-porting-gamebryo-engine-to-wii/">Gamebryo</a> platform for the long-discussed, never-seen title ... and word is that the recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/nibris-returning-with-more-promises/">screenshot</a> was real. Gamebryo is the base of several recent and forthcoming titles, including <em>Civilization IV</em>, <em>The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion</em>, and <em>Fallout 3</em>. Of course, it's also being used for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/tiny-angels-coming-to-wiis-with-the-help-of-gamebryo/"><em>Chiquititas</em></a>.<br /><br />But don't get excited just yet. Nibris has been promising screenshots and video from purported black-and-white thriller <em>Sadness</em> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">two years</a> now, but according to the press release, they've only recently chosen the Gamebryo engine and have been working on the title for "several months." They recently said we'll see something concrete next month, and while we're not holding our breath, we will be pleasantly surprised if the game actually seems to be under active development.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/">Sadness</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#855243"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/06/sdns-nwf-may31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#740193"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/sadness-screen-nwf-0407_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551776"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/pos1ue2279af_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551774"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns011ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness-1/#551773"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/sdns008ak_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/15/nibris-licenses-gamebryo-for-sadness/">Nibris licenses Gamebryo for Sadness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Apr 2008 12:00:00 EST. We do declare Emergent Technologies, you must have caught the vapors. The middleware company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/oblivions-gamebryo-engine-ported-to-wii/">Gamebryo engine</a>, which lurks beneath the hood of a number of games including <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oblivion">Oblivion</a> </em>and the forthcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fallout3"><em>Fallout 3</em></a>, has been licensed by Nibris for its vaporous Wii title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sadness/"><em>Sadness</em></a>.<br /><br />The Polish company celebrated the news by offering up what it calls the first official screenshot from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/sadness-a-chronology-of-disappointment/">oft-delayed</a> black-and-white "crime noir thriller," which we've posted above for your perusal. Says Nibris project manager Tomasz Wisniowski, the team is using the tech to include "quite a few graphical effects...which some believe are impossible to attain on the Wii." We have to wonder, however, if one of those effects includes actually <em>making it to retail</em>?<br />

Most companies choose to issue media via press releases or exclusive articles. But here we're talking about companies with actual games, not just a campaign of <em>windbaggery</em> and empty promises. Nibris, where they tend to focus on the latter, apparently feels releasing what is purportedly the first and only screenshot of <em>Sadness</em> to date (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/">two years late</a>, mind) to some random dude on the Internet is what makes for good PR.<br /><br />The IGN Wii boards have blown up over the past few days due to the unending campaign of one Nibris supporter, a single purported screenshot, and a few cryptic remarks from the Nibris president himself, who is long known to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/29/nibris-its-art-but-is-it-a-concept/">frequent message boards</a>. The numerous threads are a mess, so we'll attempt to sum up: user Twiilight_Prince posted the above, stating it was an actual in-game screenshot from <em>Sadness</em> and that he had received it from Nibris. He then apparently received messages from the user posting as Nibris, asking him to remove it. He did. Someone else also posted it, and received similar messages. Eventually, the reported PMs were posted. In them, Nibris (who we assume is president Piotr Babieno) did in fact ask for the shot's removal ... and also promised that there would be screens from <span style="font-style: italic;">Sadness</span> and a trailer next month.<br /><br />Now where have we heard <span style="font-style: italic;">that</span> before? It's same to assume we're not holding our breath around here -- but here's the apparent screenshot for your perusal.<br /><br />[Thanks, Joe!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/nibris-returning-with-more-promises/">Nibris returning with more promises</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Apr 2008 10:30:00 EST. And that indirectly brings up the reason Nintendo doesn't have any official word about the game. <em>Sadness</em> doesn't actually<em> have </em>a publisher -- only a <a href="http://www.fogstudios.com/">licensing company</a>, who isn't on the licensee list and therefore probably won't be publishing the game.<br /><br />As far as Nintendo (and all outward signs are concerned), <em>Sadness</em> is starting 2008 as an <em>incorporeal game.</em> We're a little surprised that the Nintendo rep made no indication of ever having <em>heard</em> of the game, but it's not surprising at all that no official announcements have been made.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/03/nintendo-states-the-obvious-regarding-sadness/">Nintendo states the obvious regarding Sadness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 12:00:00 EST. We had such a good time reading this, we thought we'd share for a laugh. If you're the kind of person who really splits a seam reading about <em>Duke Nukem Forever's</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/19/wheres-duke-nukem-been-the-last-decade/">glacial progress</a>, you're sure to get a laugh out of the comedy of errors that we know as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sadness/">Sadness</a></em>. This vaporous piece of software has been teasing gamers for nearly two years and, despite that lengthy timeframe, we've yet to see even a single screenshot. Stop by Wii Fanboy's <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/12/31/a-look-back-through-time-sadness/"><em>Sadness</em> chronology</a> and relive all those precious moments like it's your first time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/sadness-a-chronology-of-disappointment/">Sadness: a chronology of disappointment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jan 2008 21:00:00 EST. People told us that the Wii Zapper would make us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/13/wii-zapper-creates-a-ruckus/">kill our families</a>. We got no hard drive love. Reggie didn't kick any ass, though he might have <em>taken (down) some names</em> (we're not sure). But the thing that's made us saddest of all is the ongoing saga of the aptly-named <em>Sadness</em>, the Nibris vaporware game. For all we know, we could be playing it <em>right now</em>; their idea of a game may be centered around stringing us along for a couple of years. Nibris has released their long-awaited <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/sadness-delayed-again-vaporware-suspicions-refuse-to-go-away/">Sadness</a> </em>... Christmas card. Proving that <em>somebody</em> does <em>something</em> relating to Sadness occasionally, Nibris sent this <em>Sadness</em>-themed Christmas card to GoNintendo. "Merry Christmas and Happy <em>Sadness</em>," it reads, as a grey thing leans on a giant ball ornament with the <em>Sadness</em> logo. At least we <em>think</em> that's what's happening -- there's either a 'noise' effect applied to the whole image or it's just a really easy Magic Eye picture.<br /><br />If this was the game, it would be out now. Maybe Nibris should change their plan and release <em>Sadness</em> as a small collection of holiday greeting cards, instead of their overambitious plan to release a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/actual-details-on-sadness/">video game</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/24/nibris-has-the-cure-for-holiday-sadness/">Nibris has the cure for holiday Sadness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Dec 2007 19:00:00 EST. Since initially announcing survival-horror project <em>Sadness</em> <a href="http://www.nintendolife.com/articles/2006/04/14/sadness_for_revolution">way back in April 2006</a> (when the Wii was still called the Revolution, for Pete's sake), Polish developer Nibris has leaked precious little concrete information about the troubled title. Now come word that the game, which was <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2006/07/27/sadness-details-that-are-not-exclusive-in-any-way/">originally slated for Q4 2007</a> has been pushed back to sometime in 2009, according to an <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8437942&amp;postcount=1">e-mail</a> received by a NeoGAF poster.<br /><br />It's a shame the development progress has been so spotty, since the Wii could definitely use a new horror title that wasn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/resident-wii-vil-4-ships-a-million-units/">ported from the GameCube</a>. Since it was announced, one publisher has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/sadness-loses-its-publisher-title-becomes-more-ironic/">jumped ship</a>, the game has been delayed on more than one occasion, and we've been dripfed information and media (none of which hints at there being any real content) at a painfully slow pace.<br /><br />As we see it, NIBRIS has either been monumentally unlucky<em>, </em>work on the game has ground to an ignominious halt for the time being, or <em>Sadness</em> -- <em>gulp </em>-- doesn't actually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/09/wii-warm-up-sadness-delays-and-concerns/"><em>exist</em></a>.<br /><br />Things aren't about to get any rosier, either. In an email received by a NeoGAF poster, NIBRIS revealed that <em>Sadness </em>wouldn't be on shop shelves before 2009 (let us not forget the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/27/sadness-details-that-are-not-exclusive-in-any-way/">once slated</a> for a Q4 2007 release), and that its website would be updated soon with more news. Call us <em>cynical curmudgeons</em> all you like, but holding your breath for said update probably isn't a good idea in this case.<br /><br />It's a tremendous shame, really, as we <em>want Sadness</em> to be the real deal, and we <em>want </em>it to be fantastic. The premise, design and concepts we've heard so far all hint at a promising, unique project. Needless to say, if NIBRIS does manage to pack as much intrigue into <em>Sadness</em> as we've seen during its development, we'll be perched on the very edge of our seats come release day.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/01/sadness-delayed-again-vaporware-suspicions-refuse-to-go-away/">Sadness delayed again, vaporware suspicions refuse to go away</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Nov 2007 11:15:00 EST. So when is concept art <span style="font-style: italic;">not</span> concept art? When it's part of an artist's established portfolio of fan art and book covers, and not in any way related to an actual game. That didn't stop Cubed3 from posting the "exclusive concept art" straight from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nibris">Nibris</a>, which turned out in fact to be older art that <a href="http://omen2501.deviantart.com/">deviantArt member OmeN2501</a> turned in to the alleged developer as an example of what he <em>might</em> like to see in a DS horror game. <br /><br />That's rather more like conceptual examples of concept art for a <em>possible</em> concept than an actual confirmed game, but this not the first we've seen from the company's reported upcoming title, <span style="font-style: italic;">Children of the Night</span>. It's just the first "art" we've seen, and if you happen to seek out <em>Silent Hill</em> fan art, you may have seen some of it before. Fortunately, a few intrepid armchair detectives over at NeoGAF were quick to point out that the art was not precisely new, but was in fact part of the aforementioned artist's profile on deviantArt. A little digging revealed that while Marek Okon, aka OmeN2501, is reportedly <a href="http://omen2501.deviantart.com/art/Sadness-Maria-40586718">working as an artist for Nibris</a>, these <span style="font-style: italic;">particular</span> pieces of art were never meant for release in conjunction with <span style="font-style: italic;">Children of the Night</span>, or any other game, real or imagined. It might also be worth nothing that the artwork was cropped to give it a fresh look, though we can't say who did the cropping.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/29/nibris-its-art-but-is-it-a-concept/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nibris: it's art, but is it a concept?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/29/nibris-its-art-but-is-it-a-concept/">Nibris: it's art, but is it a concept?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Aug 2007 17:20:00 EST. Cubed3, continuing with their exclusive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Nibris/">Nibris</a> coverage, interviewed the enigmatic Polish developer about their possibly-upcoming projects. Apparently, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/nibris-does-something-has-proof/"><em>Raid over the River</em> and <em>Double Bloob</em></a> both have publishers and vague release dates, but "not for all territories." Optimistic DS fans (presumably those in Europe) should look forward to <em>Double Bloob</em> in "Q4 2007" and <em>Raid over the River </em>(now possibly called <em>Ride over the River </em>or simply <em>ROTR</em>)<em> in</em> "Q1 2008".<br /><br />Some gameplay details about both games are revealed in the interview, including touchscreen integration for <em>ROTR</em> that, if real, sounds like fun: the game contains a slow motion mode in which you draw on enemies to target them for a special attack. <br /><br />They're considering bringing a version of <em>ROTR</em> to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiiware">Wii Ware</a> download channel as well. Let's hope they release <em>something, somewhere. </em>The title quote may be referring to Nibris's non-plans for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sadness"><em>Sadness</em></a> sequel, but we'd like to see something happen <em>once.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/14/nibris-nothing-happens-twice/">Nibris: 'nothing happens twice'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Aug 2007 14:50:00 EST. We would suggest something crazy, like finishing a game, or even just following through when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/sadness-may-exist-after-all/">promising official statements</a>. But the folks at Nibris, they're <em>rebels</em>. Instead, they've announced yet another title, this time a horror game for the DS. <em>The Children of the Night</em> is said to feature third person gameplay and a deep story. Unlike the rumored <em>Sadness</em>, it will be in full color. At least, that's the plan: a commenter under the name of "Nibris" who sometimes speaks out at C3 reported that the game is still in a conceptual stage. Yeah, we know -- a Nibris game only in the planning stages? Say it ain't so!<br /><br />The commenter also reports that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/sadness-loses-its-publisher-title-becomes-more-ironic/"><em>Sadness</em></a> is almost complete, thus freeing up the creative team for work on <em>Children of the Night</em>, but we'll believe that one when we see lots of actual gameplay footage ... and maybe a copy on a shelf somewhere. Don't get us wrong. We want all these games to exist, and to be released, and for everyone to join hands and sing about making the world a better place. But when videos feature <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=nRrKF7jGIxM">flash carts with other commercial games</a> on them, deadlines come and go repeatedly, and gameplay footage continues to be presented in a slapdash manner, we start to doubt things a little.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/13/nibris-announces-another-new-project/">Nibris announces another new project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 Aug 2007 17:20:00 EST. New video of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NIBRIS/">Nibris</a> game? And it looks like somebody's really playing it? We're cautious<strike>ly optimistic</strike>. Despite our skepticism, we can't deny the visual evidence of at least one level of their vertical shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/22/raid-over-the-river-trailer/">Raid Over the River</a>.</em> And we doubt that Nibris would stoop to faking gameplay for a demonstration. So that's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/08/raid-over-the-river-in-action/"><em>two </em>real-looking gameplay videos</a> for this game.<br /><br />Nibris's other hypothetical DS game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/10/nibris-brings-on-the-pang/">Double</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/nibris-shows-possible-real-game-double-bloob/">Bloob</a></em>, exists in a similar state of <em>having some <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=22583">gameplay footage</a>.</em> The major update with <em>Double Bloob</em> is that it's no longer a total <em>Pang </em>clone, but <em>also</em>, alternately, a total <em>Bust a Move/Puzzle Bobble</em> clone. Which is <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/08/opinion_why_casual_game_clonin.php">apparently fine</a> for casual games!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/08/nibris-does-something-has-proof/">Nibris does something, has proof</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Aug 2007 16:40:00 EST. <br />Even with a diminished E3, there's no controlling the wave of rumors that hit the Internet every year before the show. Why fight it? From now until E3 hits, we'll be posting one piece of wild speculation every day. Some may be patently ridiculous, and others just might turn out to be true. Even some of the ridiculous ones might turn out to be true! Rest assured, <em>everything will be totally made-up and unfounded.</em> Except, of course, when we speak about all the ass Reggie is going to kick. That part? Totally true.<br /><br /><strong>Rumor:</strong> NIBRIS won't show anything! And if you come back with memories of a NIBRIS presentation, they probably sedated you and planted the memory! Just when we were ready to forget this whole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/sadness-game-for-wii-is-real-no-it-isnt-yes-it-is/"><em>Sadness</em> debacle</a>, Nibris drops a few more pieces of artwork and information to keep our attention, some of which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/16/mysterious-wii-sadness-explained/">we were already aware of</a>. At least they didn't contradict themselves and start a brand new round of "NIBRIS IS TEH FAEK!!!!111!".<br /><br />We knew <em>Sadness</em> would feature two main characters: a woman (Maria) and her son Alexander. Now we know that Maria is around 30 years old and of Polish-Hungarian descent. Not exactly earth-shattering information, but what the heck, it's interesting. The game's length has been upped from 15 to 20 hours, and Nibris will use voice acting extensively. Fog will also be a major part of the game, allowing the in-game visuals to match the quality of the concept art released over the last year.<br /><br />A few other interesting factoids:<br />
<ul>
    <li>There are nearly 50 people involved with the making of <em>Sadness</em>.</li>
    <li>There are 18 species of monsters throughout the game, and different ones will appear depending on how you play.</li>
    <li>Some of the monsters will be "friendly", but don't expect flowers and a shoulder massage.</li>
    <li>The music will be performed by "one of the best" orchestras.</li>
    <li>Release date on the official site is still 2007.</li>
</ul>
So there you have it, more tidbits for the game we're still afraid to yearn for.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness/">Sadness (Wii)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness/#230142"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/sad2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness/#230141"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/sad1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sadness/#230140"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/sad3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/more-sadness-details-squeezed-out-of-nibris-the-saga-continues/">More Sadness details squeezed out of Nibris, the saga continues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2007 18:23:00 EST. On top of some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-sadness-artwork-is-not-screenshots/">recent artwork</a> released by developer NIBRIS, we now have some interesting gameplay details.<br />
<ul>
    <li>The game will total around twenty hours in length.</li>
    <li>There will be two playable characters: a thirty-year old woman of Polish-Hungarian descent, and her son.</li>
    <li>There are eighteen species of monsters; which ones you see will be determined by how you play the game.</li>
    <li>The game will feature no (i.e. real-time) loading.</li>
    <li>Voice acting will be a prominent feature.</li>
    <li>The graphics will contain copious amounts of fog, to match up with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-sadness-artwork-is-not-screenshots/">that artwork</a>.</li>
    <li>Last night's <em>Heroes</em> episode was totally awesome.</li>

We recently had some real-looking videos of what appeared to be a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/nibris-shows-possible-real-game-double-bloob/">real game</a> on the DS. But all we've had about their Wii game <em>Sadness </em>recently is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/sadness-loses-its-publisher-title-becomes-more-ironic/">bad news</a> (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/sadness-may-exist-after-all/">responses</a> to bad news). Well, they seem to be back on track with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sadness/">Sadness</a></em>, or at least they're back on their uniquely Nibris track of showing a few tidbits of artwork, but no screens and no evidence that there is any <em>game</em> at all.<br /><br />For what it's worth, the artwork looks okay. We're glad work is being done on this game at all. Do you think the issue with <em>Sadness</em> is that Nibris has been unusually transparent with the earliest stages of their game design, leading to the impression that it's been a really long time without seeing anything? Or is it just that they're <em>really</em> late getting to showing any real content? Check out the artwork after the break, and feel free to discuss what has become an impromptu <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wwu">Wii Warm Up</a> in the comments thread.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-sadness-artwork-is-not-screenshots/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Sadness artwork is not screenshots</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-sadness-artwork-is-not-screenshots/">New Sadness artwork is not screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Apr 2007 20:15:00 EST. We hope. We're rooting for them to finish a game, at this point, hopefully after running spell-check. Stick the word "Forever" on the end of your title and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/01/duke-nukem-forever-in-full-production/">development period will last about that long</a>. Name your console "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/20/phantom-is-making-like-a-phantom/">Phantom</a>" and it will vanish like a ghost. Nibris should have took that into consideration when naming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/16/mysterious-wii-sadness-explained/">black-and-white WWII horror/adventure</a> game <em>Sadness.</em> All we've seen is concept art and already the game's development is a tragic tale.<br /><br />Last year Nibris announced a publisher (Frontline Studios) had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/20/nibris-hooks-publisher-for-mature-themed-wii-title/">picked up the game</a>. Time passed and no news came out of either company. A forum member at IGN decided to investigate and contacted Frontline. The response? "[We are] no longer interested in developing <em>Sadness</em> game based on Nibris' concept." How ... sad.<br /><br />The folks at Kiff News weren't satisfied, so they investigated a little further and got in touch with Nibris. The company confirmed the split with Frontline and insisted that <em>Sadness</em> and other projects are in development. One of the company's leads has been out sick, which was the reason behind their silence.<br /><br />It still sounds fishy to us, but only because we don't want to get our hopes up if this falls through. Next time, use the working title <em>Happiness: On Shelves Now</em> for better publishing karma.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/04/10/sadness-may-exist-after-all/">NintendoWiiFanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/sadness-game-for-wii-is-real-no-it-isnt-yes-it-is/">Sadness game for Wii is real, no it isn't, yes it is</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Apr 2007 09:58:00 EST. The e-mail they received from Nibris confirms the break from Frontline Studios, but they also insist that <em>Sadness</em> -- and their other announced games -- <em>are</em> in development, and that they've been quiet on the situation because their head has been out sick. We wonder if he has a doctor's note.<br /><br />They also acknowledged that their silence was probably the source of the rumors surrounding <em>Sadness</em>, and offered an apology, as well as the promise of an official statement within the week. They also report that there is a new developer working on the game. We hope they'll not only work fast (and thoroughly), but be forthcoming, as well. We've been in the dark on this one for a long time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/sadness-may-exist-after-all/">Sadness may exist after all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 17:00:00 EST. That was really something we had high hopes for, as the gameplay sounded truly revolutionary, and thus perfect for the <strike>Revolution</strike> Wii. But it's probably easy to talk up something that may or may not even <em>exist</em>. Still, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/sadness-loses-its-publisher-title-becomes-more-ironic/">Frontline/Nibris split</a>, and the delays on Nintendo's most-anticipated first party titles, plus what we've seen so far ... well, frankly, sometimes it makes us a little concerned. While a lot of the added-waggle ports have been surprisingly good so far, we're not seeing a lot of right-here, right-now, pop-'em-in-the-Wii original games for our shiny original system. At some point, we just <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/wwu">have to ask</a> ... is developing fresh, new games with sensible motion sensitive controls (like <em>Wii Sports</em>, but <em>bigger</em>) really so difficult? Some of these games have been years in the making, after all. And we're all for the wait, mind you, if it results in a more perfect gaming experience, but we're still a little anxious at times when we see fallout like this.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/09/wii-warm-up-sadness-delays-and-concerns/">Wii Warm Up: Sadness, delays, and concerns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Apr 2007 09:00:00 EST. The conclusion supports the claim but may not justify the meanness.<br /><br />Basically, he contacted Frontline to see if they were actually publishing <em>Sadness</em> and if it really existed. Frontline responded that they were "no longer interested in developing <em>Sadness </em>game based on Nibris' concept." This sort of makes it sound like there never was a game, and now there may never be. We might disagree with the poster's tactic, because it's kind of rude to openly doubt the existence of a game in an interview with its erstwhile publisher, but it sounds like his doubts were not misplaced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/sadness-loses-its-publisher-title-becomes-more-ironic/">Sadness loses its publisher, title becomes more ironic</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Apr 2007 14:57:00 EST. Players will take up the role of Maria, a recent survivor in a horrible train wreck. Her <strike>younger brother</strike> son, Alexander, did not escape the wreck without his own scars, however, as he was left blind. Soon after, he starts acting very strangely. Together, the siblings must use their environment to survive the ordeal ahead. Now, that isn't much to go on, but it's more than we already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sadness">knew</a> on the game. <br /><br />Anyone out there interested in this game, or has the lack of information caused you to become apathetic towards <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=sadness"><em>Sadness</em></a></em>?</p>

Well cheer up, <em>Game Informer</em> brings the first illuminating details of Nibris' dark horror adventure: It's pre-WWI, and you are Maria, a woman desperate to protect her son Alexander after a train derailment lands the two of you in the always-creepy Eastern European countryside. Alex has been blinded in the accident and is starting to act "odd." Your subsequent fate will share eerie similarities to ... <em>Slavic legends</em>!<br /><br />Nibris estimates that <em>Sadness</em> will provide 15 heart-pounding hours of "No Alex! Not that way!" action, in addition to 10 tear-jerking endings. You ready to unleash your inner-mother? We hear <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Cooking+Mama"><em>Cooking Mama</em></a> is a great way to stir up those maternal instincts ... try starting there.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/16/mysterious-wii-sadness-explained/">Mysterious Wii 'Sadness' explained!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Feb 2007 15:45:00 EST. Though comprised of a mere fourteen employees (according to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibris" target="_blank">Wikipedia</a>), Nibris is supposedly working on seven different projects (four for Wii; three for DS); but only four titles have been confirmed: <em>Raid Over the River</em> (Wii &amp; DS), <em>Sadness</em> (Wii), and <a href="http://www.cubed3.com/news/6582/1/Nibris_Announce_Double_Bloob_for_Nintendo_DS" target="_blank"><em>Double Bloob</em></a> (DS). From the <a href="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8859251871838045458" target="_blank">tech demo</a>, we also know that Fresh Chicken Studio (who?) is contributing to the development of <em>ROTR</em> for DS.<br /><br />While Nintendo has apparently acknowledged Nibris as an official developer, we remain suspicious of the studio's sporadic contact with the gaming community. The mystery surrounding Nibris is as thick as the one blanketing the eerie glimpses of <em>Sadness's </em>concept art. Give us some tangible evidence. Make us believers!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/16/is-nibris-too-good-to-be-true/">Is Nibris too good to be true?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Jan 2007 22:25:00 EST. Earlier this year, we were starry-eyed, entranced with the novelty of, well, everything. Now that we're slinking toward jaded -- or are at least harder to impress -- how's this strike you?<br /><br />There's a lot to like in the video, and not just atmosphere. The little touches (like the umbrella) now seem more real, or at least, totally possible. A lot has been made of the details that have been released on this, particularly regarding the lack of menus, the gesture-based gameplay, etc., and it's nice to look back at this and visualize how that will translate into the gaming experience. And it's nice to see a woman playing who isn't some giddy girl giggling over <em>Super Monkey Ball</em> (not that we have anything against monkeys or minigames). She's playing, she's serious, and there's a great dichotomy between the sometimes-hesitant woman in the game and the cold and focused woman with the Wiimote. <br /><br />Check out the video, which is tucked away after the jump. Whether you've seen it or not, it's a nice video for early Friday evening.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/friday-not-so-fluffy-video-sadness-then-and-now/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Friday not-so-fluffy video: Sadness then and now</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/friday-not-so-fluffy-video-sadness-then-and-now/">Friday not-so-fluffy video: Sadness then and now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Oct 2006 20:55:00 EST. That's right, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/20/sadness-finds-a-publisher/">earlier</a> reports that the game had found a publisher were true, just not the one we thought. <br /><br />Aside from co-producing <em>Sadness</em> with NIBRIS, Frontline Studios developed the recently-released DS title <em>Sudoku Mania</em> and have worked with NIBRIS on other, smaller projects in the past. Interestingly enough, the announcement on Frontline Studios' <a href="http://www.frontstudios.com/newss.php?sekcja=2&amp;news_id=33">webpage</a> states that <em>Sadness</em> has a 16 month development cycle, giving us some kind of idea when we could be seeing the game at retail.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/17/nibris-and-frontline-to-co-produce-sadness/">NIBRIS and Frontline to co-produce Sadness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Aug 2006 10:45:00 EST. That is, until now. Over at the Gamespot forums, one of the NIBRIS staff dropped a small tech demo for the DS version of their upcoming title <em>Raid Over the River</em>. While only a short clip, it manages to boast some amazing graphics and what already looks to be an equally wonderful gameplay experience.
