To commemorate the occasion, Gamasutra has a nice feature up <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/183233/nintendo_power_remembering_.php">with the magazine's founders looking back</a> on its history.<br /><br />According to one of the founders, Howard Philips, the original draw of Nintendo Power wasn't the game news or the features; back then, it was the maps and the gameplay tips that really drew readers in. "I'm just gaga over it now," he remembers, "thinking of how fun it was to pull out a map of Zelda and see the entire world, and be able to go through it with your fingertip and then say, 'Okay, there's where you can burn that tree,' or push that rock, or whatever. It was so cool. Getting that in the hands of kids was - from my perspective - the real big win that we were after." Considering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/27/nintendo-power-remembered/">the industry's own thoughts</a> on Nintendo Power and its legacy, there are probably a lot of readers out there who agree.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/11/last-issue-of-nintendo-power-available-now-founders-look-back/">Last issue of Nintendo Power available now, founders look back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Dec 2012 23:00:00 EST. The cover image has been making the rounds on the internet, featuring a sculpted clay scene from <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/new-super-mario-bros-u"><em>New Super Mario Bros. U</em></a>, an homage to the clay <em>Super Mario Bros. 2</em> cover that debuted in 1988. Old-school Nintendo fans may want to pick one up for old time's sake.<br /><br />The magazine is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/14/nintendo-power-officially-closes-last-issue-should-be-out-decem/">expected to arrive</a> by December 11. We recently compiled some of the Joystiq staff's fond Nintendo Power memories, which you can read <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/27/nintendo-power-remembered/">here</a>.<br /><br />See a larger version of the image after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/30/nintendo-powers-nostalgic-final-cover/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo Power's nostalgic final cover</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/30/nintendo-powers-nostalgic-final-cover/">Nintendo Power's nostalgic final cover</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 30 Nov 2012 13:15:00 EST. One of the best includes StarFox's Falco "Rambaldi" cited as "Lombardi" in the Star Fox 64 player's guide and that name sticking for years. Not its passing, but its life. Nintendo Power will conclude 24 years of publication with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/22/nintendo-powers-last-issue-will-run-in-december/">final issue this December</a>. We've experienced the loss of many magazines over the years, but Nintendo Power's conclusion is different for many of us. Directly attached to childhood memories of so many, it was <em>the</em> publication of both the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super NES at the dawn of the console era, with children of the late 80s and early 90s eagerly awaiting the magazine's arrival every month.<br /><br />We've gathered some fond Nintendo Power memories from today's media after the break. Please feel free to share your happy memories too.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/27/nintendo-power-remembered/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo Power remembered</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/27/nintendo-power-remembered/">Nintendo Power remembered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Aug 2012 10:55:00 EST. A now-deleted tweet from NP staff suggested this was accurate.</div><br />Reportedly "difficult to work with," Nintendo is said to have taken no interest in working with Future on expanded online initiatives to strengthen the Nintendo Power brand. Editors and staff members were told that the magazine would be shut down sometime last week and have since begun transitioning to other Future publications, according to Ars Technica's source.<br /><br />We've reached out to Future Publishing and Nintendo for comment. Originally launching in 1988, Nintendo Power was run in-house by Nintendo until the property was licensed to Future in 2007.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/21/nintendo-power-coming-to-an-end/">Nintendo Power coming to an end</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Aug 2012 14:00:00 EST. He only plays the original Game Boy port, and admits he submitted his scores to Nintendo Power back in the day.<br /><br />"I was always #1 in the Nintendo Power listings in 1988, and after they said my name had been in there too many times and wouldn't print it again, I spelled my name backwards (Evets Kainzow) and sent in a photo of my score," Wozniak said in a comment on <a href="http://gizmodo.com/5926688/how-steve-wozniak-became-the-genius-who-invented-the-personal-computer">a Gizmodo piece</a> about him. "When I got the magazine, I'd forgotten doing this and was worried that a foreigner from the next city over (I used Saratoga instead of Los Gatos so they wouldn't catch on) had a score up in my range. There's Evets Kainzow's score: 546,145 points.<br /><br />[<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Wozniak">Image credit</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/20/steve-wozniak-secretly-submitted-tetris-scores-to-nintendo-power/">Steve Wozniak secretly submitted Tetris scores to Nintendo Power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jul 2012 17:30:00 EST. The short version: Nintendo Power's table of contents reveals a game called "Unchained Blades" for 3DS, as a download.<br /><br />The long version: this is the reveal of something publisher XSEED was cryptically teasing yesterday, with a series of images on Twitter including a <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/XSEEDGames/status/183264659963527169">Tyrannosaurus Rex</a>, a <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/XSEEDGames/status/183298807382028288">blade of grass</a>, and a still from <em>Ghost's</em> famous <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/XSEEDGames/status/183327857920061440">pottery wheel scene</a>. And <em>now</em> you're confused.<br /><br />It's now clear that the clues refer to the dungeon crawler released in Japan as <a href="http://www.cs.furyu.jp/ubr/"><em>UnchainBlades Rexx</em></a>. (get it: "Unchained" Melody plus "blade" of grass plus T. "Rex.") It was a retail game over there, but being in Nintendo Power's "Download" section suggests that XSEED is improving the distribution method along with the name. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/24/unchained-blades-coming-to-3ds-eshop-via-xseed/">'Unchained Blades' coming to 3DS eShop via XSEED</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Mar 2012 16:00:00 EST. We've recently seen some evidence of two Sega 3DS projects that have yet to be officially announced: a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/17/sonic-generations-listed-for-3ds-pc-in-earnings-report/">3DS (and PC) version</a> of <em>Sonic Generations</em>, and a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/24/resume-reveals-griptonite-working-on-shinobi-for-3ds/">new <em>Shinobi</em> game</a>. It turns out that the latest issue of Nintendo Power announces them both before Sega has a chance to fire up the press release machine.<br />
<br />
The cover of the June 2011 issue, as found on <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431255">NeoGAF</a>, specifically notes that <em>Sonic Generations</em> "speeds onto the 3DS" just in time for the <em>sometimes</em> pudgy hedgehog's 20th anniversary. <em>Shinobi</em>, however, is only listed as a "classic revival."<br />
<br />
Additionally, a teaser of the forthcoming <em>Shinobi</em> game appears to have leaked on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly200T_o41A&amp;feature=player_embedded">YouTube</a>, posted yesterday by user "greatshow482" -- the user's only upload. Beyond affirming Griptonite Games as the developer, the teaser confirms a <em>Shinobi</em> game "re-imagined for the Nintendo 3DS."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/nintendo-power-cover-confirms-sonic-generations-3ds-new-shinobi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo Power cover confirms Sonic Generations 3DS, new Shinobi</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/25/nintendo-power-cover-confirms-sonic-generations-3ds-new-shinobi/">Nintendo Power cover confirms Sonic Generations 3DS, new Shinobi</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 May 2011 10:09:00 EST. Alright, class, open your May 2011 issue of <em>Nintendo Power. </em>That's where you'll find confirmation of the (second) North American release of Namco Bandai's cel-shaded RPG, <em>Tales of the Abyss</em>.<br />
<br />
The game first launched on PlayStation 2 in 2005, followed by an English release in late 2006. A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/tales-of-the-abyss-receiving-3ds-port/">3DS port</a> is set to arrive in Japan later this year, which Nintendo Power reports will be followed by a North American version this fall.<br />
<br />
<em>Tales of the Abyss</em> debuted to generally <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-2/tales-of-the-abyss">positive reviews</a>, with most criticism targeting the obligatory amnesiac protagonist and the fact that the titular abyss <em>didn't look all that deep, actually.</em> Get ready to push that 3D slider up to MAX, critics!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/27/tales-of-the-abyss-3ds-coming-to-north-america-this-fall/">NP: Tales of the Abyss 3DS coming to North America this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Apr 2011 21:05:00 EST. The table of contents for the latest issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em> magazine spills the beans on a DSiWare version of Pixel's wonderful, wonderful game about a mysterious, underground civilization of rabbit people and the giant lunchboxes who terrorize them.<br />
<br />
We've contacted Nicalis, who made the remake for WiiWare, for more details on this DSiWare version, so we can find out more about the features and (intended) release date. In the meantime, it's quite enough to imagine having an excuse to play <em>Cave Story</em> again.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/cave-story-dsiware/">Cave Story for DSiWare listed in Nintendo Power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 15:20:00 EST. Level-5 fans have a lot to look forward to. Akihiro Hino, president of Level-5, confirmed to <a href="http://www.nintendopower.com/">Nintendo Power</a> that some of its original non-<em>Layton</em> games would be coming Stateside, specifically <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/inazuma-eleven"><em>Inazuma Eleven</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ni-no-kuni"><em>Ni no Kuni: The Another World</em></a>. It appears the company is already making good on its promise to promote its "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/level-5-opens-new-tokyo-office-for-overseas-business/">overseas business</a>."<br />
<br />
The soccer-themed <em>Inazuma Eleven</em> franchise has been a surprise hit in Japan, having already spawned <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/inazuma-eleven-3-kicks-off-this-summer/">two sequels</a> on the DS (with a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/25/level-5-ceo-tweets-hints-about-console-inazuma-eleven-game/">console version</a> in the works). And while <em>Ni no Kuni</em> isn't a proven franchise yet, it has already generated quite a bit of buzz -- particularly the graphically-intense <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/24/ni-no-kuni-for-ps3-revealed-beautiful/">PS3 version</a>. Although Hino doesn't offer specifics about a release date for either project, he does say that "I don't think it will that be long before you're able to play these games." Unfortunately, we don't think he means they'll be here "tomorrow."<br />
<br />
The full interview with Akihiro Hino can be found in Nintendo Power #157, available now.<br />

The upcoming July issue of <a href="http://nintendopower.com/images/NP256_deBlobUnderground.jpg">Nintendo Power</a> reveals a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/de-blob"><em>de Blob</em></a> game coming to the DS and Wii, called <em>de Blob: The Underground</em>. Wii players can expect two-player support in <em>The Underground</em>, as well as "new moves, new foes" and "new 2D platforming segments." Blue Tongue will once again handle development on the Wii version, while Australian studio Halfbrick works on the DS debut.<br />
<br />
<em>de Blob: The Underground</em> is currently slated to launch in Spring 2011 -- but before that, you'll see much more at next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/27/nintendo-power-reveals-de-blob-the-underground-for-ds-wii/">Nintendo Power reveals de Blob: The Underground for DS, Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 May 2010 11:16:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><em><small>No, that's the first game.</small></em></div>
<br />
As you Nintendo Power subscribers and purchasers will learn (if you haven't gotten the latest issue already) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/high-voltage">High Voltage</a> will be bringing its flagship franchise back to the Wii this fall with <em>The Conduit 2</em>. <a href="http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=118944">GoNintendo</a> has a ton of details from the magazine's upcoming feature, but we're only providing the highlights, in case you plan on reading for yourself.<br />
<br />
In short: It's due this fall, it picks up right where the first left off and it's embracing its sci-fi vibe more than the first game did. Like we said, plenty of details are forthcoming; however, at the moment, it sounds like High Voltage is hoping to ratchet up pretty much every aspect of the first game. Here's hoping we have some official assets for you soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/30/the-conduit-2-coming-to-wii/">The Conduit 2 coming to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Mar 2010 18:29:00 EST. <div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<a href="http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=116446">GoNintendo</a>]</small></div>
<br />
As evidenced by the image above, the latest issue of Nintendo Power reveals a sequel to 5th Cell's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/scribblenauts">Scribblenauts</a></em> for the Nintendo DS. According to a report from <a href="http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=116446">GoNintendo</a>, the magazine feature additionally details the game's release window ("fall"), that it will receive "10,000 more words" and "120 new and improved levels," and will have a focus on the use of adjectives. Thankfully, the report also notes intentions to improve the game's controls -- a major setback of the first outing. We've shot an email to the developers and will hopefully have more information on the game sometime soon. For now, you can check out the full magazine cover <a href="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/03/scribblenauts2covernp.jpg">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/06/nintendo-power-scribblenauts-sequel-coming-this-fall/">Nintendo Power: Scribblenauts sequel coming this Fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Mar 2010 19:09:00 EST. The back-page blurb mentions that the mysterious reveal will be "a major DSiWare title that should make many of you very, very happy." Though, unless it's a free app that lets us read new information about <em>No More Heroes 2</em>, we don't see how we'll <em>ever</em> be satisfied.<br />
<br />
It shouldn't be too hard to make DSiWare users "very happy." So far, if you <em>don't</em> like <em>Art Style </em>games (and somehow, plenty seem to dismiss the series), the service has been lacking. Even if you <em>love Art Style</em>, for that matter, it's been light on content. We just hope the new announcement is truly <em>new</em> and not something that is already out in Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/nintendo-power-teases-dsiware-announcement/">Nintendo Power teases DSiWare announcement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 12:15:00 EST. If you subscribe to Nintendo Power, the latest issue should be arriving at your house very soon -- <a href="http://www.aeropause.com/2009/07/read-a-long-with-nintendo-power-244-august-2009/">Aeropause</a> has the scoop on some details on Nintendo's upcoming lineup from the issue. Most important to folks reading this text is likely what Miyamoto had to say regarding the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legend-of-zelda"><em>Legend of Zelda</em></a> game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/miyamoto-zelda-wii-coming-in-2010-at-the-earliest/">announced</a> back at E3: "I don't think it's going to be that radically different." But, what about the theory of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/05/zelda-art-from-developer-roundtable-released/">the girl being the Master Sword</a>? Surely <em>that</em> is radically different!<br />
<br />
In typical Nintendo fashion, that's all Miyamoto had to say. He left us hanging to speculate, and we're sure most will be able to turn this appetizer of a quote into a five-course meal. <br />

As you probably already know, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/red-steel-2-goes-to-the-wild-west-adds-motionplus-support/">latest issue of Nintendo Power blows</a> the doors off of the recently announced sequel to the Wii's slightly disappointing, sword/gun-toting FPS launch title, <em>Red Steel</em>. Now that the mag has landed in a few quivering, anticipatory hands, more details about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Red%20Steel%202">Red Steel 2</a> </em>are beginning to surface.<br /><br />First and foremost, the title will apparently be cel-shaded -- hinted at by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/red-steel-2-coming-in-holiday-2009/">sole piece of concept art</a> we received yesterday, and confirmed by <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=80968">a number of scans</a> which are beginning to creep onto the internets. Also, we recently got confirmation from Nintendo Power itself that the game will be "Wii MotionPlus exclusive," a phrase we can only interpret to mean "you need a MotionPlus dongle to play it." (Are you guys comfortable with calling it a dongle? That's such a lovely word. <em>Don-gle</em>.)<br /><br />We'll let you know when we hear even more facts about the game. And by facts, we don't mean "my brother's girlfriend's sister's stepmom goes to a beauty parlor where she read about <em>Red Steel 2</em> while waiting for her bouffant to dry."<br /><br />[Thanks, Fernando Rocker!]<br /><small></small><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/red-steel-2-is-motionplus-exclusive-cel-shaded/">Red Steel 2 is MotionPlus exclusive, cel-shaded</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 21:00:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/red-steel-2"><em>Red Steel 2</em></a> is real ... and it's not really what we were expecting. The June 2009 issue of <a href="http://nintendopower.com/">Nintendo Power</a> will feature Ubisoft's Wii-exclusive sequel, and the cover reveals two things:<br />
<ul>
    <li>MotionPlus makes wielding the sword feel "as real as you'd always dreamed!"</li>
    <li><em>Red Steel 2</em> seems to take place in the Wild West ... with swords. WTF?</li>
</ul>
Now, before you freak out, let's not forget that the Wild West and the East have merged together quite successfully in the past. If <em>Red Steel 2</em> turns out anything like the Charles Bronson / Toshiro Mifune mashup <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_E9vFLw-R0"><em>Red Sun</em></a>, it should be the <em>best game ever made</em>. Remember earlier today when we revealed the first image of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/a-boy-and-his-blob/">A Boy and His Blob</a> </em>from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/a-boy-and-his-blob-bouncing-to-wii-on-a-tangerine-trampoline/"><em>Nintendo Power</em>'s exclusive</a> story? Well, we lied a little bit when we said that the pixelated image you saw then wasn't going to be revealed until March 5. No folks, we got the full details (well, the first full page of details at least) early from our good buddies at <em><a href="http://nintendopower.com/">Nintendo Power</a></em>, and are happy to report that <em>A Boy and His Blob</em> looks to recreate all the enjoyment you had with the original. <br />
<br />
Jellybean-related gameplay and the game's story are back for a second run in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/majesco">Majesco</a>-published, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wayforward">WayForward</a>-developed Wii game and it's set to hit retailers this Fall, according to the <em>NP</em> piece. WayForward, known for recent WiiWare horror/puzzler <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lit">LIT</a></em> and technologically impressive <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shantae">Shantae</a></em> for Game Boy Color, will be hand-drawing all the (yes, 2D) visuals. It's also adding to the original's defensive and puzzle-solving jellybeanery with beans that turn your blob into various offensive items (some examples given are anvil dropping and ground removing). If you want more details (and an interview with the game's director) you'll just have to wait until you get your grubby little mitts on the April issue of Nintendo Power.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/a-boy-and-his-blob-detailed-in-latest-nintendo-power/">A Boy and His Blob detailed in latest Nintendo Power</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 19:30:00 EST. The magazine teases an upcoming Wii preview with a pixelated <a href="http://www.nintendopower.com/images/NP240_TKTK.jpg">image</a> of the article, to be revealed March 5. The <a href="http://www.nintendopower.com/">table of contents</a>, however, features the unobscured <em>Boy and His Blob</em> artwork seen here.<br />
<br />
We can only hope that this Wii reimagining of the classic <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Crane_(programmer)">David Crane</a>-designed puzzle-adventure will fare better than the heartbreakingly cancelled <a href="http://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/08/a-boy-and-his-blob-ds-cancelled/">DS game</a>. The single piece of art is already more promising than the admittedly garish look of the DS game, at least.<br />

Its magazines in the region (Nintendo Power and the official Microsoft and Sony mags) have seen the company's revenue fall by 2% over the last three months, calling into question how sustainable that particular medium is in the current economic climate.<br /></div>
<br />Print advertising revenues fell by 4% during the same period, while online advertising revenue increased by 25%. 2 million new users have been accessing its web content (which includes GamesRadar) since September, bringing the total to over 20 million. A far larger reach than is realistically possible with a magazine. All the signs are pointing to the death of print media in the US; you need only think back a few weeks to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/06/official-ugo-buys-1up-egm-dead/">closure of EGM</a> to realize that. <br /><br />Future is putting on a brave face, stating that it will "remain confident that we're in the best shape we can be to deal with whatever challenges lie ahead and are on track to deliver against expectations for the full year." The company's gaming section is proving to be less resilient to the economic crisis than its other sectors, such as music or technology. With almost a third of its entire library devoted to video games, however, this decline is certainly troubling.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/futures-future-in-print-not-looking-bright-in-the-us/">Future's future in print not looking bright in the US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 06:30:00 EST. <br />How does a satellite image of Indianapolis link to imminent Nintendo news? That's the question posed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=nintendo+power&amp;invocationType=wl-wii&amp;searchsubmit="><em>Nintendo Power</em></a>'s latest "Next Month" teaser. Seemingly yanked straight from <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;q=E+Hanna+Ave+and+Shelby+St,+Indianapolis,+Indiana&amp;sll=39.709729,-86.137984&amp;sspn=0.003986,0.012563&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;t=k&amp;ll=39.737818,-86.171265&amp;spn=0.133588,0.271568&amp;z=12">Google Maps</a>, this is one of the <em>vaguest</em> hints we've seen from the magazine for some time, and one that has predictably set message boards and comment threads alight.<br /><br />The most popular guess we've seen concerns some kind of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/13/google-earth-wiimote-so-happy-together/">Google content</a> appearing on the Wii, which doesn't sound <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/google-reader-hearts-the-wii/">implausible</a>, but is that really worth building hype in this way? Other speculation ranges from a localized <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/disaster-days-of-nobody-buying-it/"><em>Disaster: Day of Crisis</em></a> to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/24/nintendo-serving-up-pilotwings-ping-pong/"><em>Pilotwings</em></a> game to (with <em>absolutely crushing inevitablity</em>)<em> </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/earthbound-gets-rated-by-the-esrb/"><em>Earthbound</em></a>. Your speculation, show us it!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/12/nintendo-power-teases-indianapolis/">Nintendo Power teases ... Well. Here's some profoundly bizarre, slightly awesome news out of the latest issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em>: Ubisoft is planning a new <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles </em>fighting game. Not to go along with a movie, cartoon, or comic -- just <em>because.</em> This project is going to involve staff from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/29/hackers-give-brawl-cast-a-change-of-clothes/"><em>Super Smash Bros. Brawl</em></a> (maybe Game Arts people?) as well as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/16/rumor-team-ninja-following-itagaki-out/">Team Ninja expats</a>. That's all we can confirm, given our non-possession of the magazine.<br /><br />But <em>some guy</em> on the IGN boards (which require a login, so check the GoNintendo reproduction <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=65881">here</a>) went on to (probably) summarize the article, revealing the game to be a 2.5d, four-player fighting game with online play. Hey, we like those -- especially when they feature beloved characters from our youth! Although we <em>don't</em> like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tournament_Fighters"><em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles </em>fighting games</a> (well, the SNES one was okay, and the NES one was technically impressive). According to the IGN poster, Ubisoft is shooting for a September release. <em>Bossa nova!</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/nintendo-power-brawl-team-ninja-staff-working-on-new-tmnt-figh/">Nintendo Power: Brawl, Team Ninja staff working on new TMNT fighter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 11:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=The%20Legend%20of%20Zelda%3A%20Ocarina%20of%20Time">The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</a></em> turned 10 years old last Friday. Remarkably, even after a decade of technological advances and narrative achievements in gaming, it remains <a href="http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/simpleratings.asp?rankings=y">atop Gamerankings' list</a> as the highest rated game of all time. However, if Eiji Aonuma (director of <em>Ocarina</em> and every subsequent <em>Zelda</em> title) has his way, the Hylian N64 classic will be dethroned in his lifetime. <br /><br />In a recent interview with Nintendo Power, Aonuma expressed his lofty career goals -- he plans to stick with the <em>Zelda</em> series <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/11/26/aonuma-cant-quit-zelda-until-he-beats-ocarina-of-time/">until he creates a title that surpasses <em>Ocarina of Time</em></a>. This is fantastic news, as Aonuma's continued involvement with the series is likely the only reason we've yet to see a spin-off title featuring a gun-toting Dark Link.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/29/zelda-director-wont-quit-until-he-surpasses-ocarina-of-time/">Zelda director won't quit until he surpasses Ocarina of Time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Nov 2008 15:30:00 EST. <br />As co-director of a game that many consider the greatest of all time, you'd think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=eiji+aonuma&amp;invocationType=wl-wii&amp;searchsubmit=">Eiji Aonuma</a> would be content to put his feet up and soak up the praise. It's what <em>we</em> would do, but that's probably why we'll never create anything as awe-inspiring as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/ocarina-gets-a-spit-shine/"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time</em></a>.<br /><br />Speaking to <em>Nintendo Power</em> about his past work on most of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a>s since <em>Ocarina of Time</em>, Aonuma insists that he can't stop making the games, because he's yet to beat what he achieved with <em>Ocarina</em>. "I'm happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day," he says, "but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it."<br /><br />He adds that this alone may be what motivates him to make more <em>Zelda</em> and keep putting more happy in our heads. A revealing insight into the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/miyamoto-slightly-critical-of-twilight-princess-super-mario-g/">perfectionist mindset</a> of a top game designer!<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/">The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976796"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__15__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976794"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__14__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__13__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976788"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__12__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/#976786"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/zelda_wii_approved_session_2__9__thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/26/aonuma-cant-quit-zelda-until-he-beats-ocarina-of-time/">Aonuma can't quit Zelda until he beats Ocarina of Time</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Nov 2008 15:28:00 EST. <br />As happens each month, some of the more interesting tidbits from the holiday issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em> have been transcribed by the tireless folks at Aeropause.<br /><br />The most eye-catching news, for us? A novel and particularly painful-sounding attack in Platinum Games' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/19/atsushi-inaba-talks-madworld-inspirations-wii/"><em>MadWorld</em></a>. According to the magazine, you'll be able to lodge "a trumpet where the sun don't shine, leaving the unfortunate fellow to stagger around as he inadvertently toots the horn." Awe. Some. What's a trumpet doing lying around on the set of a futuristic game show about death and wanton bloodletting? Heck, don't ask, just <em>shove</em>.<br /><br />Other worthy factoids drawn from the mag deal with how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes-desperate-struggle/"><em>No More Heroes</em></a> creator Goichi Suda relaxes (by playing <em>Burnout Paradise</em>), and the news that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/06/onechanbaras-other-zombie-slayers/"><em>Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers</em></a> will have a two-player splitscreen mode. Hit up <a href="http:// http://www.aeropause.com/2008/11/read-a-long-with-nintendo-power-236-holiday-2008/">Aeropause</a> for the rest!<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=64000">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/24/madworlds-take-on-wii-music/">MadWorld's take on Wii music</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 16:30:00 EST. According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/capcom-reveals-zombie-tastic-info-for-dead-rising-confirms-na-release/"><em>Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop</em></a> might not be the slouch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/25/dead-rising-compare-til-you-drop/#comments">many are making it out to be</a>. The magazine mentions that there could be up to 100 zombies onscreen at once. Aside from that, improvements include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Combat controls will mimic <em>Resident Evil 4</em>.</li>
    <li>Selectable difficulty level.</li>
    <li>Improved save system.</li>
    <li>Larger text! </li>
    <li>Overtime mode now part of the main game.</li>
</ul>
Sounds like <em>Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop</em> will be an option-rich good time. How many of you are looking forward to it?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/05/latest-nintendo-power-says-100-onscreen-zombies-in-dead-rising/">Latest Nintendo Power says 100 onscreen zombies in Dead Rising</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 15:45:00 EST. <br />It seems as if it wasn't that long ago when rumors of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dragon-quest-iv">Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen</a></em> coming stateside first appeared, querying our next command. But here we are, less than two months away from the 3D remake's September 16 release, and Square Enix already has its marketing engine for the game running. We promised an update, so here we are! That oft-discussed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/rumors-new-sonic-game-and-dead-rising-for-us/"><em>Nintendo Power</em> cover</a> did contain some righteous screens of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/sonic-and-the-black-knight-is-totally-real/"><em>Sonic and the Black Knight</em></a> within its papery (Remember paper? The stuff you learned stuff from before the internet?) depths, and we commandeered the above shot for your viewing pleasure.<br /><br />This new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sonic/"><em>Sonic</em></a> adventure takes the series in a new direction which, as evidenced by fans continuously lamenting the destruction of the franchise, is sorely needed. The initial reaction hasn't been positive, as fans don't expect this game to be some kind of salvation. Some gameplay details have been revealed, including multiple characters (namely Shadow and Knuckles), different sword maneuvers, and a system which earns knighthood points depending on your good or bad actions during levels. Oh, and his sword is named Calibur, and it talks.<br /><br />Well, we all wanted Sonic to go really fast, and that turned out to be a <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/sonicthehedgehog?q=sonic">big bust</a>, so what now? Do you feel like a passenger on a train bound for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/bury-the-shovelware/">Shovelware City</a>? However, if <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327896">the supposed scans of the cover of the upcoming edition of Nintendo Power</a> that have begun to trickle onto the internet are legit, then the publication's big surprise could be coming from an unexpected source -- a new adventure of a recognizable blue rodent, titled <em>Sonic and the Black Knight</em>.<br /><br />Assuming the scans are real, the twentieth anniversary edition of Nintendo Power will give readers their first look at the title. No other details are given on the supposed cover, though we're sure the sole image of the cerulean speedster brandishing a broadsword is enough to send you into a tizzy. However, let us not forget the disaster that resulted the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/21/meta-review-shadow-the-hedgehog/">last time we bestowed a lethal weapon upon a hedgehog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/rumor-nintendo-power-to-reveal-wii-exclusive-sonic-and-the-blac/">Rumor: Nintendo Power to reveal Wii exclusive Sonic and the Black Knight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Jul 2008 18:30:00 EST. This fairly authentic-looking image of a <em>Nintendo Power </em>magazine cover, if real, means that the magazine has the scoop on <em>yet another</em> Wii game in the works starring Sonic the Hedgehog. <em>Sonic and the Black Knight</em> apparently features Sonic fighting with a sword, which would fit with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/28/nintendo-powers-sword-in-the-preview/">teaser graphic</a> the magazine put at the end of the last issue.<br /><br />It also fits with Sega's recent use of new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-viewing-the-crummy-half-of-sonic-unleashed/">gameplay mechanics</a> nobody wants, a change from their previous habit of creating new characters nobody wants. Although if <em>Sonic and the Black Knight</em> uses the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/wiimotionplus-puts-better-control-in-your-motion-control/">Wii MotionPlus</a> to render swordplay like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/friday-video-wii-sports-resort-sword-play-at-e3/">Wii Sports Resort</a> </em>does, we're totally on board.<br /><br />The English title at the top for the new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/dead-rising-website-awakens/">Dead Rising</a> </em>game both is great and suggests that an American release of the remake is already planned. If, of course, this image is not a fake created by a jerk.<br /><br />[Thanks, CJMErl!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/rumors-new-sonic-game-and-dead-rising-for-us/">Rumors: New Sonic game and Dead Rising for US</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Jul 2008 18:00:00 EST. Remember the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/nintendo-power-teases-ds-owners-with-a-faux-redesign/">crazy ad in <em>Nintendo Power</em></a><em> </em>(pictured above) that "hinted" at a DS redesign? (You should; we only posted about it two days ago, silly rabbits.) It turns out that the poor Photoshop job is nothing to speculate about, as NIS America only "placed screenshots on a DS backing to emphasize the platform, and edited them for effect." Now, we never took Marketing 101, but that seems like somewhat misleading advertising to us.<br /><br />NIS America's marketing guru Nao Zook apologized for any confusion that the picture may have caused, stating that there is no widescreen DS in the works (to her or the company's knowledge). So, you can rest assured (or at least hold your breath until E3) that you won't have to pony up the cash for yet another DS.<br /><br />

Some are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-ds-mockups/746629/">awful</a>, some are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nintendo-ds-mockups/752275/">amazing</a>. Yes, the DS has precisely one gazillion "concept" models floating around the place, from fans who want their own particular quirks included with the <strike>inevitable</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/point-uh-yeah-it-totally-will-get-redesigned/"><em>possible</em></a> redesign of the handheld. <em>Nintendo Power</em> has featured this image with an advertisement for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/disgaea/"><em>Disgaea DS</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rhapsody/"><em>Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure</em></a>, and although it looks pretty cool, it's extraordinarily doubtful that one of the most talked-about rumors in the history of the DS has just awkwardly been confirmed via this image. Bogus, but neat!<br />
<br />
It's pretty much the same thing as the DS Lite now, only with bigger screens. Which is more or less <em>exactly</em> what the DS needs -- the rest is spot on. The fact that the bottom screen is misaligned with the top screen lends evidence to some guy taking one too many coffee breaks during his Photoshop training. Looks rad, not official -- redesign will probably come soon anyway. Watch this space for all E3 Nintendo revelations!<br />
<br />
<font color="red">Update:</font> Just as we thought, Nintendo denied that this widescreen DS is a representation of a new unit, stating this is "<a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=171073">purely rumor and speculation.</a>"<br />

<br />This month's 20th anniversary issue of <span style="font-style: italic;">Nintendo Power</span> seemed to leave everyone's head spinning with its exclusive Wii news, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9" style="font-style: italic;">Mega Man 9</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/rumor-mankind-ill-needs-a-castlevania-wii-game-such-as-this/" style="font-style: italic;">Castlevania Judgment</a>, so much so, that hardly anyone noticed the magazine's other big item: a new Nester comic!<br /><br />A lot has happened since we last saw him over a decade ago -- apparently, he now has a Wii, a wife, and ... a son?! Given the exclusive reveals the magazine has featured lately, such as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/rumor-wiiware-gets-equipped-with-mega-man-9/">Mega Man 9</a></em> for WiiWare and the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/rumor-mankind-ill-needs-a-castlevania-wii-game-such-as-this/">Castlevania Judgment</a></em> 3D fighter, both arguably megatons, it's hard not to expect another huge surprise!<br /><br /><em>Nintendo Power's</em> preview page for the next issue brandishes the above image and a quick prank on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/earthbound">Earthbound</a></em> fans (as if they needed more teasing): "We'll kick off the next 20 years of <em>Nintendo Power</em> with more big reveals, including a top-secret cover story fit for a king. It's got a lot of heart. Just kidding. It's <em>Mother 3</em>. Just kidding. Please look forward to it."<br /><br />What could it be? A sequel to Square's lackluster <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Knight">King's Knight</a></em>? <br />Disaster!<br /><br />Of all the different directions you expected <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Konami/">Konami</a> to take with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Castlevania/">Castlevania's</a></em> Wii debut, we're sure that "3D fighting game" was not one of them. Nonetheless, the above shot is what allegedly appeared in the latest issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em>.<br /><br />Other rumored details we heard through the grapevine (oh, and we're just about to lose our mind)? Honey, honey: <br />
<ul>
    <li>Wii remote used for motion attacks, Nunchuk for character movement</li>
    <li>Rumored characters include Simon, Alucard, Shanoa, Maria Renard, and, of course, Dracula</li>
    <li>Holy water, magic spells, dagger, and boomerang subweapons</li>
    <li>Using subweapons requires hearts</li>
    <li>Remixed classic Castlevania tracks</li>
    <li>Destroyable environments</li>
    <li>Enemy monsters jump into the battle</li>
    <li>Placeable traps</li>
    <li>Steals men's souls, and makes them its slaves!</li>
</ul>
No word yet on whether you'll be able to throw plates of curry at your opponents. However, it's the same <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/nom/">web magazine</a> they've had in Japan forever. Only the trademark registration is new.]<br /><br />When it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/nintendo-power-shutting-down/">became clear</a> that Nintendo's version of <em>Nintendo Power</em> was on the way out, there was a lot of speculation that the magazine would move online, bolstered Reggie Fils-Aime's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/18/wii-warm-up-vintage-nintendo-power-content-coming-to-the-vc/">idea</a> of making <em>Nintendo Power</em>'s archives becoming available on the Wii. Of course, instead of the print magazine being replaced by an online resource, it was replaced by ... an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/nintendo-powers-big-reveal-tales-of-symphonia-coming-to-the-u/">almost identical magazine</a>.<br /><br />Nintendo of Japan seems to have been inspired by the idea, however -- or by <a href="http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/05/02/nom-nom-nom/">I Can Haz Cheezburger</a>. They've registered a trademark for something called "Nintendo Online Magazine" or "N.O.M." Could this be a Wii-based magazine? The Nintendo Channel has already shown that Nintendo is willing to create exclusive video content for the Wii, along with demos. <em>Words</em> would be a natural next step.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/nintendo-working-on-an-online-magazine/">Nintendo working on an online magazine? <br />It looks like GameFly was right once again.<br /><br />We <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/tornado-might-blow-over-to-north-america/">recently reported</a> that the renter/retailer put up a listing for <em>Tornado</em>, which was assumed to be a localized version of the Japanese game sharing the same name. Now according to a blurb in most recent issue of <em>Nintendo Power</em>, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/17/how-disturbing-tornado-is-kind-of-familiar/">Katamari-like game</a> is indeed confirmed to pop up in North America, although no timeline details were given.<br /><br /><em>Nintendo Power</em> also reveals that <em>Tornado</em> will include some microphone blowing elements, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/ds-daily-too-much-mic/">which worries us</a> a little bit. As long as the game doesn't overdo it, though, we can't help but think that this will be a nice addition to the DS library.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=44492">GoNintendo</a>]<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/29/north-american-tornado-confirmed/">North American Tornado confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 May 2008 20:00:00 EST.
