Even dogs took part in the cosplay activities at this year's Otakon convention, with Dante the dog here dressing in the divine garb of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/okami"><em>Okami's</em></a> heroine, the goddess Amaterasu.<br />
<br />
If you have a white dog you'd like to style as Amaterasu (and who is a <em>good boy </em>like Dante -- good boy!) his owners detailed the process of making the costume on their <a href="http://practicalevil.com/2011/08/amaterasu-build/">blog</a>. Happily, the whole thing was conceived from the perspective of what would be best for Dante; even the decision to bring him to Otakon in the first place was explained as "this was better for him than leaving him in a boarding place for five days." The whole post is full of tips and disclaimers about ensuring your dog's happiness and comfort while also making it look like a video game character.<br />
<br />
Basically, our hearts were warmed twice by this story. And then a third time when our eyes drifted back up to the picture.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/10/good-morning-heres-a-dog-dressed-as-amaterasu/">Good morning, here's a dog dressed as Amaterasu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 09:30:00 EST. Toymaker SOTA has announced that it's prepping a trio of exclusive, licensed video game-based items for this year's San Diego Comic-Con International, which runs July 21-24. The biggie (and by that we mean nearly a foot tall) is a statue ($160) of Morrigan and Lilith from the gothic fighter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/darkstalkers"><em>Darkstalkers</em></a>, which depicts the two as they "fall, together, in a loose embrace, unaware of how much longer they have together" and "freezes in time a moment that Morrigan and Lilith wish to last forever." SOTA's words, not ours.<br />
<br />
Smaller and fluffier, a keychain-sized <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/okamiden">Okamiden</a></em> plush will be included as part of a "San Diego Comic-Con Impulse Pak" ($40) that features three of SOTA's non-game-related Bobble Budds. Finally, there's our favorite of the bunch: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/darksiders"><em>Darksiders</em></a>' War astride his horse, Ruin, in an LED-lit statue (above, $250) that looks as hot as the flames erupting from the Apocalypse rider's steed.<br />
<br />
All three items will be available at the show and through SOTA's online store. You can view more pictures and details at the source link.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/sotas-new-darksiders-darkstalkers-and-okamiden-toys-go-to-comi/">SOTA's new Darksiders, Darkstalkers and Okamiden toys go to Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jul 2011 02:00:00 EST. The producers of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/okamiden"><em>Okamiden</em></a> realized they were in a pickle, marketing-wise, when they were finishing up the Western version of the game just as the 3DS and <em>Pok</em>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<em><em>&eacute;</em>mon Black </em>and<em> White</em> were being announced for the same release window. Capcom decided to thread the needle and send Okamiden out right between these two.<br />
<br />
"Even though the news of the Nintendo 3DS was a bit earlier than we had expected," said producer Motohide Eshiro and director Kuniomi Matsushita in a postmortem on Gamasutra, "we decided that releasing the pan-Western versions of the game after <em>Pok&eacute;mon</em> and before Nintendo's 3DS would be our best bet."<br />
<br />
The developers also revealed the inspiration behind Okamiden's partner system, which pairs the tiny Chibiterasu with young swordsboys, mermaids, Moon Tribe aliens, and others. "A child version of Amaterasu would only have half the abilities of the adult Amaterasu," they said. "It would be rather difficult for half of a god to save the world, but if there were a partner, then the two of them could work together to save the world."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/okamiden-producers-discuss-planning-around-pokemon-and-3ds/">Okamiden producers discuss planning around Pokemon and 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 23:40:00 EST. If I were to overthink <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/okamiden"><em>Okamiden</em></a>, I would suspect its premise is a subtle commentary on the game's own development. The world of Nippon as it appears in the DS game is filled with the small children of the people and gods found in Clover Studio's 2006 PS2 game <em>Okami</em>. It's tempting to say that this is the developers' subversive way of comparing themselves to children at play in the world Clover created. But it's more likely Capcom realized a cute puppy would sell games.<br />
<br />
It <em>is</em> a really cute puppy.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/15/okamiden-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Okamiden review: Small puppy, big game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/15/okamiden-review/">Okamiden review: Small puppy, big game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 Mar 2011 12:20:00 EST. Whereas GameStop offers a pretty cute <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/bring-okamiden-home-this-march/">paintbrush stylus</a> with pre-orders of the celestial DS adventure game, Capcom's own <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/productID.215619300/Okamiden-DS.html">online store</a> is offering ... this. A tiny plush Chibiterasu keychain, small enough for you to bring with you everywhere, forever, like the most convenient best friend ever.<br />
<br />
We'll offer some free advice to other retailers: if you want any chance of attracting us away from this irresistible offer, you're going to have to take the loss and bundle a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/chibiterasu-plush-will-paint-a-smile-on-your-face/">bigger Chibiterasu plush</a>. It's a burden, we know, but if you want to succeed in this world, you have to give us really cute toys of baby Japanese wolf-gods.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/03/free-chibi-keychain-with-okamiden-pre-order-from-capcom-store/">Free Chibi keychain with Okamiden pre-order from Capcom store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Dec 2010 20:10:00 EST. Nice how that works out, isn't it? One aspect that isn't scaled down is Chibiterasu's arsenal. The Celestial Brush allows you to restore life to dead things, repair broken bridges and other objects, and even summon cherry bombs with a line-art bomb shape, as seen in the video.<br />

The artwork in our gallery includes two adorable new celestial deities, and a new partner for Chibiterasu, child actor Kagu.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/okamiden-10-6-10/">Okamiden (10/6/10)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/okamiden-10-6-10/#3444218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/brushvine01bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/okamiden-10-6-10/#3444219"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/brushvine05bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/okamiden-10-6-10/#3444220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/demonnutpowerslash02bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/okamiden-10-6-10/#3444221"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/fireeyebattle04bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/okamiden-10-6-10/#3444222"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/10/fireeyebattle06bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/brush-up-on-okamiden-with-new-screens-and-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Brush up on Okamiden with new screens and video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/brush-up-on-okamiden-with-new-screens-and-video/">Brush up on Okamiden with new screens and video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 09:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">There are not one but two brilliant <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/okami"><em>Okami</em></a>-related items in this post, and we tossed and turned all last night about which one we should put pre-break, and which one we should put after. In the end, we flipped a coin, and <a href="http://ga.sbcr.jp/mfigure/015236/">this amazing <em>Okami</em> polystone statue</a> won. It features a terrific sculpture of everyone's favorite Shinto deity, Amaterasu, and will be available starting at the 2010 International Tokyo Toy Show for 15,540 yen. That's about US$176, so it's not cheap -- but at about 8" across and about 5" tall, it's a nice chunk of sculpted form.<br />
<br />
We're still not sure we made the right decision though -- the second piece of collectible <em>Okami</em> gear will be found at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, and also after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/15/two-great-okami-convention-collectibles-coming-soon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Two great Okami convention collectibles coming soon</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/15/two-great-okami-convention-collectibles-coming-soon/">Two great Okami convention collectibles coming soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Jul 2010 19:35:00 EST. Starting in June, Capcom will be offering <a href="http://www.e-capcom.com/ec/srDispProductListProductLink/doProductTreeLink/1/1/A10002448/10/10/srDispProductList/">a pair of <em>Okami</em>-based mugs</a> for &yen;3,150 ($34). <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/05/13/okami-and-okamiden-captured-in-tea-cups/">Siliconera</a> spotted the "tea cups," which feature the canine protagonists from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Okami/"><em>Okami</em></a> and the upcoming DS sequel <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Okamiden/"><em>Okamiden</em></a>. The vessels also change color as you pour hot liquid into them, <em>blossoming</em> from dark designs into the full-color scenes depicted in the image above.<br />

Now, cut up your credit card before you try to ship these internationally!<br />

Less than a week after a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/okamiden-trademarked-in-europe/">European trademark</a> appeared for the DS <em>Okami</em> sequel, <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/02/17/first-sighting-of-okamiden-in-north-america/">Siliconera</a> discovered an American trademark for the same thing, filed February 12. At this point, it seems assured that Capcom will localize the game, unless it decides <em>not</em> to do so simply to punish us for presumptuousness. <br />
<br />
At the same time, the company filed a trademark for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ghost-trick"><em>Ghost Trick</em></a>, another interesting DS game shown at TGS, whose North American release has already been officially <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-capcom-bringing-sengoku-basara-samurai-heroes-and-ghos/">announced</a>. Between these two games and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ace-attorney-investigations"><em>Ace Attorney Investigations</em></a>, Capcom is single-handedly making continued DS ownership worthwhile in 2010.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/trademark-paints-a-picture-of-american-okamiden-release/">Trademark paints a picture of American Okamiden release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 17:46:00 EST. And if Capcom Europe is picking it up, it's a sure enough bet that Capcom USA will as well. We look forward to playing it for more than a few minutes!<br />
<br />
We're going to celebrate the impending localization by first asking Capcom about it, and then staring dreamily at the character art of Chibiterasu. <em>So cute</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/okamiden-trademarked-in-europe/">Okamiden trademarked in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 14:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hideki-kamiya">Hideki Kamiya</a>, creator of the forthcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bayonetta"><em>Bayonetta</em></a>, would be up for making a sequel to his stylish side-scroller <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/viewtiful-joe">Viewtiful Joe</a> </em>if given the opportunity, according to a report by <a href="http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/12/07/news-kamiya-wants-to-return-to-viewtiful-joe-not-okami.aspx">Game Informer</a>. Not so much for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a>, though, which he'd wanted to revisit until he learned Capcom was making <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okamiden">Okamiden</a> </em>for DS. "I heard the announcement that someone else would be making a sequel," he told the magazine. "Now I'm just not interested in it anymore."<br />
<br />
Kamiya, who left Capcom along with <em>Resident Evil </em>creator <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shinji-mikami">Shinji Mikami</a> and other key staffers to form the now-defunct <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover-studio">Clover Studio</a>, doesn't retain the rights to any of the IPs he created at either company -- but nevertheless feels that the story of <em>Viewtiful Joe</em> "is incomplete," adding "I'd like to finish it someday."<br />

While that's <em>probably</em> a long shot, Kamiya has already proven he's a man full of amazing ideas, which we'll hopefully see many more of after <em>Bayonetta </em>-- a game he could very well make a sequel to -- is released in the US on January 5.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/07/viewtiful-joes-kamiya-would-like-to-finish-series-will-never/">Viewtiful Joe's Kamiya would 'like to finish' series, won't henshin-a-go-go back to Okami</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Dec 2009 22:00:00 EST. Most definitely not -- however, after watching <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2448/">the latest trailer</a> for Chibiterasu's handheld babysitting adventure, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okamiden"><em>Okamiden</em></a>, we don't think we'd be able to help ourselves if ever placed in the lupine protagonist's presence. Forget that. We'd cheek-pinch every single thing in this adorable video: the little kid who accompanies Chibi, the enemies the duo swiftly cut in half, even the barren trees they magically bring back to life. <br /><br />And trees <em>don't even have cheeks</em>. How can the sequel to a game that is regarded as a sales failure, developed by someone else, be such a massive draw to the TGS crowd? Perhaps the <em>adorable</em> Chibiterasu and Kuninushi statues inside the demo area helped bring people in. Or maybe people are just <em>way</em> into sitting down -- an amenity offered (and required) by both the Level-5 and the <em>Okamiden</em> demo.<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-hands-on-okamiden/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 2009: Hands-on: Okamiden</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/25/tgs-2009-hands-on-okamiden/">TGS 2009: Hands-on: Okamiden</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Sep 2009 16:45:00 EST. Japanese gaming pub <a href="http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/194/194875/">Dengenki</a> recently polled its readers on what series they'd like to see translated into anime form. The Top 10 list looks nearly exactly the same as our own wishlist:<br />
<ul>
    <li><span>1. Persona 4</span></li>
    <li><span>2. Phoenix Wright</span></li>
    <li><span>3. Okami</span></li>
    <li><span>4. Kingdom Hearts</span></li>
    <li><span>5. Idol Master</span></li>
    <li><span>6. Metal Gear Solid</span></li>
    <li><span>7. Yakuza</span></li>
    <li><span>8. BlazBlue</span></li>
    <li><span>9. Persona 3</span></li>
    <li><span>10. Atelier Rorona </span></li>
</ul>
Atlus' PS2 RPG <em>Persona 4</em> tops the list, managing to beat out some big names like <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> and <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>. Perhaps the success of <em>Persona: Trinity Soul</em> reminded readers that the franchise works in serialized TV format? While we'd certainly like to see another <em>Persona</em> anime, an adaptation of <em>Phoenix Wright</em> seems like a no-brainer. Capcom, are you reading this?<br />

Looking at these screens, we feel only vestiges of the outrage we once felt about the idea of continuing Clover's work in the developer's absence. Instead, the feeling of <em>wanting to play this game</em> has overtaken us.<br /><br />These <em>lovely</em> screens show possibly the most sensible reason for putting <em>Okami</em> on the DS: <strike>reduced development costs</strike> the Celestial Brush. Chibiterasu can use the Brush (which, for <em>you</em>, is the stylus) to rebuild a bridge, restore life to a tree, and, of course, to cut stuff. But <em>really cutely</em>, because everything Chibiterasu does is adorable.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/11/okamiden-screens-are-predictably-cute/">Okamiden screens are predictably cute</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Sep 2009 15:45:00 EST. It demonstrates that between the Celestial Brushing and the self-contained fighting sequences, the game hasn't changed much in its transition to DS. Which means that this is basically the <em>Okami</em> sequel that we all wanted. Except so much cuter. And, of course, not developed by Clover, which is admittedly troubling.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/08/finally-a-real-okamiden-trailer/">Finally, a real Okamiden trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 08 Sep 2009 13:30:00 EST. The gameplay footage looks <em>slightly</em> choppy, and the textures are slightly rough, but the game is unmistakably <em>Okami</em> and looks pretty impressive for a DS game. Besides, it's still in an early stage.<br /><br />We're officially torn now. We don't want to trust an <em>Okami</em> game that doesn't involve Clover Studio, but Chibiterasu is unbelievably cute, and we want to own anything with his/her image on it. The game will be playable at TGS, and attendees will receive a free fan (with Chibiterasu on it, so <em>see above</em> for our opinion of the item).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/03/first-okamiden-footage-its-okami-but-smaller/">First Okamiden footage: it's Okami, but smaller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Sep 2009 16:30:00 EST. The DS sequel, produced by <em>Ace Attorney Investigations'</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/28/interview-ace-attorney-investigations-producer-motohide-eshiro/">Motohide Eshiro</a> and directed by <em>Dino Crisis</em> series staffer Kuniomi Matsushita, takes place a few months after the end of <em>Okami</em>, at which point demons return for some reason.<br /><br />Instead of Amaterasu, the wolf being that comes down to help the village is <em>Chibiterasu</em>, a younger, less all-powerful wolf. Chibiterasu is helped by a partner character, the first of whom to be revealed is Kuninushi, the child of Susano from the first game. Chibiterasu will work with other partner characters throughout the game, each of whom can also be controlled independently.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/okamidens-new-protagonist-chibiterasu-the-lil-wolf/">Okamiden's new protagonist: Chibiterasu the lil' wolf</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 15:00:00 EST. We can't see the title in this scan, but if an <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> sequel <em>and</em> an unrelated game called <em>Okamiden</em> were revealed at the same time, it would be a pretty weird coincidence.<br /><br />If this is real, it shows a DS sequel to Clover Studios' beloved PS2 action-adventure game, which captures the original's watercolor style admirably, if a bit blockily. Of course, the DS is even more of a natural for the <em>Okami</em> paintbrush mechanic than the Wii is!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/rumor-famitsu-scans-show-ds-okami-sequel-okamiden/">Rumor: Famitsu scans show DS Okami sequel 'Okamiden'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Sep 2009 02:15:00 EST. That hypothetical person's patience will be rewarded on October 15, when <a href="http://www.e-capcom.com/ec/srDispProductDetailCsLink/doColorSizeLink/1/1/A10001821/10/10/srDispProductDetail/1">e-Capcom</a> orders of the Japanese Wii version of <em>Okami</em> will ship with this Amaterasu phone (or DS) strap. <br /><br />It's <em>totally</em> worth the wait. It's okay, we can wait. Just head over to the Capcom Store and buy your copy of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> right now. It's <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/cferris/blog/2009/03/30/okami_for_the_wii_and_ps2_now_20_at_capcom_store">only $20</a>. <br />
<br />
What's that? Oh, yes, that price applies to both the <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.52267900">PS2</a> <em>and</em> <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.98778800">Wii</a> versions. Seriously, Capcom lowered the price to $20. We <em>know</em>, right? What? You say you haven't even <em>played Okami</em> yet? You'd better hurry up and buy it before someone finds out. It's okay, we won't tell anyone.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/psa-go-buy-okami-for-20-at-the-capcom-store/">PSA: Go buy Okami for $20 at the Capcom Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 13:00:00 EST. The Capcom store will be holding a special promotion starting tomorrow and running through Sunday where you can get 15% off the purchase of two Wii games and 25% off of your purchase of three or more. On top of that, if your order is over $75, then Capcom will ship your order for free.<br /><br />What's interesting is that apparently pre-orders work here. In their Capcom blog post, they mention that the soon-to-release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/fawkner-talks-up-neopets/"><em>Neopets Puzzle Adventure</em></a> qualifies for this, so we're assuming others do as well, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dead-rising"><em>Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop</em></a>.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/27/capcom-store-holds-black-friday-promotion/">Capcom store holds Black Friday promotion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Nov 2008 12:00:00 EST. The Wii has been on shelves for close to two years now. That means there are plenty of games to experience on the console. What we want to know is what games do you think have the best story? Did you really enjoy the yarn that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> spun? Think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-mario-galaxy"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a> had a great story? Which Wii games have had the most memorable plots to you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/21/wii-warm-up-tell-us-a-story/">Wii Warm Up: Tell us a story</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Oct 2008 08:00:00 EST. Just in time for you to have traded the game in three weeks ago, the replacement covers for the Wii version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Okami/">Okami</a></em> have finally shipped. If you can cast your minds back to late April, you'll recall when the video game blogging gods tricked Capcom into accidentally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/uh-ohkami-capcom-botches-okami-wii-box-art-inadvertently-adver/">hiding the IGN logo</a> on the box art for the game.<br />
<br />
Though Capcom made quick work of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/capcom-offers-box-art-redemption-for-okami-wii/">announcing a fix</a>, the replacement covers haven't been so speedy, but, thankfully, jilted fans should be receiving them any day now.<br />

To make up for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/what-the-did-ign-sneak-onto-my-okami-boxart/">unsightly blemish</a> on the covers that came with the game (sorry, IGN), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> offered a selection of replacement art ranging from "the real cover, but IGN-free" to completely new, unconventional box designs, and we all got to pick one. <br /><br />We've had to wait a bit, but it turns out that we'll get <em>all</em> of them! According to Capcom's Colin Ferris, "Each cover sheet features the cleaned cover art on one side, and the two different new designs on the other." The covers are now on their way out, ready to adorn those copies of <em>Okami</em> that you forgot about or traded in.<br /><br />If you <em>didn't</em> order a replacement cover, perhaps because you didn't yet own <em>Okami</em> and are an honest person, you can still find the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/print-your-own-okami-boxart-ign-watermark-optional/">high-quality images</a> available for printing.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/okami-replacement-covers-shipping-with-bonus/">Okami replacement covers shipping with bonus!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Aug 2008 11:51:00 EST. You a Japanese developer? If so, we need a word! Firstly: wow, thanks for reading us -- that's <em>awesome</em>. Secondly, and with the niceties over: you know what your problem is? You're too <em>soft</em>! At least that's what Platinum Games' Atsushi Inaba reckons.<br /><br />In an interview with Gamasutra, Inaba suggested that Japanese developers spend too much time concentrating on established franchises, and not enough on amazing, creative new ideas -- ideas such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/madworld-1/826808/full/"><em>MadWorld</em></a>, which is what Inaba is presently working on. If anything, argues the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> creator, it is Western developers who are now producing the most innovative videogames.<br /><br />"We don't feel that we're at the top of the industry, but we know that we have to catch up to where Western developers are," he concludes. Is he right, readers?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/madworlds-inaba-japanese-devs-are-too-soft/">MadWorld's Inaba: Japanese devs are 'too soft'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jul 2008 17:00:00 EST. Joystiq contacted RAD (pretty cool acronym, huh?) president Didier Malenfant, who was quick to squash the report (although we can't be sure he didn't thwap it with a Wii remote left over from porting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> to Nintendo's console).<br />
<br />
Malenfant further tells Joystiq that his company "[doesn't] have any Wii titles currently in development." RAD had previously <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/ready-at-dawn-drawn-to-current-gen-consoles/">hinted at plans</a> to create games for current-gen consoles after finishing <em>Okami</em> Wii, and just today confirmed that it has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/ready-at-dawn-talks-abandoning-the-psp-piracy-and-being-origin/">two all-new games underway</a>. So, two new games in development, none for Wii ... rumorong!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/rumorong-ready-at-dawn-not-going-wii-exclusive/">Rumorong: Ready at Dawn not going Wii-exclusive</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 20:10:00 EST. Need a case? Sure, you could buy one -- and there are plenty available -- but as a dedicated Show and Tell reader, surely by now you can guess where this is going. If you just shouted out, "Wisconsin!," you are both very wrong and <em>very</em> random (also, stop yelling at the screen; it's sensitive). If, instead, you suspect a little DIY is ahead, you just may be right.<br /><br />Reader Eleniel decided to make a case, but there was just one problem -- no sewing machine about. But that's okay, because DS Fanboy readers are <em>hardcore</em>, so like your intrepid hostess, Eleniel sewed it by hand. It is, however, one hell of a lot better than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/show-and-tell-let-us-show-you-them/">my work</a>. It's got that fancy new <em>zipper</em> technology. That doesn't mean it's perfect, though; Eleniel confesses that the pocket designed to hold games doesn't exactly hold anything. We still like checking it out, though. And, while on the DIY kick, Eleniel also made an <em>Okami</em>-inspired skin. Might as well go all out, right? You can check out the finished products in our gallery below. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/elenials-diy-case-and-skin/">Eleniel's DIY case and skin</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/elenials-diy-case-and-skin/#820369"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/el-case-3-st_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/elenials-diy-case-and-skin/#820368"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/el-case-1-st_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/elenials-diy-case-and-skin/#820367"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/el-case-2-st_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/elenials-diy-case-and-skin/#820366"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/05/el-st-okcase_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>

Luckily, this week there are some sweet deals on a few Wii titles. Scouring through the ad listings at <a href="http://cheapassgamer.com">Cheap Ass Gamer</a>, the ones we found of interest include:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/print-your-own-okami-boxart-ign-watermark-optional/"><em>Okami</em></a> for $29.99 at Best Buy</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/metareview-boom-blox/"><em>Boom Blox</em></a> with a free $10 gift card at Circuit City and Target</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/speed-racer/"><em>Speed Racer</em></a> for $29.99 at Target</li>
</ul>
Keep in mind that while Circuit City offers its deals online, Best Buy and Target's are brick and mortar only. Also, Target deals vary by region, so the ones above may or may not apply to stores near you.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://cheapassgamer.com">CAG</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26242692@N08/2493881440/sizes/o/in/set-72157605061195712/">Read:</a> Best Buy ad with <em>Okami</em> for $29.99<br /><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/Search.do?c=1&amp;searchType=user&amp;keyword=boom+blox&amp;searchSection=All&amp;go.x=0&amp;go.y=0">Read:</a> <em>Boom Blox</em> with free $10 gift card at Circuit City<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/18/wiis-sunday-bargain-bin/">Wii's Sunday bargain bin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 May 2008 16:00:00 EST. Uh, <em>no </em>post title, it is in fact <em>not</em> <em>Iron Man</em> (although, we should say the prospect of seeing the film this weekend sounds nice). What we're all going to be playing, no doubt, is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario-kart-wii"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a>. With its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/mario-kart-megaton-mii-integration-online-menu-navigation-and/">multitude of tracks</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/this-is-what-taking-mario-kart-online-looks-like/">online play</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/wii-fanboy-poll-best-control-scheme-for-mario-kart/">plethora of control schemes available</a> (got to love <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-evolution-of-the-wii-wheel/735211/">that wheel</a>!), it looks like it's a shoe-in for this weekend's down time. What about you all?<br /><br />Will you be racing it up in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/wii-fanboy-review-mario-kart-wii/"><em>Mario Kart Wii</em></a>, or are you playing something else? Maybe you're still chipping away at <em>Okami</em>? What are you playing?<br /><br /><br /><br />

Poor <em>Okami</em> for the Wii. You just can't seem to get good press, whether it be through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/okami-advertisement-pokes-fun-at-itself/">your hilarious advertising</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/what-the-did-ign-sneak-onto-my-okami-boxart/"><em>more</em> hilarious boxart</a> (at least we got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/capcom-fixes-the-okami-boxart-goof-awesomely/">a pretty neat fix</a>, though!) Now, the game's director, Hideki Kamiya, is upset that Clover's contributions to the game were cut from the Wii title's ending credits.<br /><br />Trust us, we're not trying to poke fun, because, and we'll be complete honest here, we want to have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/13/clover-studio-goes-six-feet-under/">Clover Studio's</a> babies. We loved those guys and every project they had their hands on. And, even if it's a Wii port, we think him and other Clover staff members that worked on the game should be credited. Capcom doesn't think so, however.<br /><br />Since the end credits were all one movie (which had the Clover logo at the end of it), Capcom decided to pull the entire credits. They claim that they had no access to the original source file for the logo, so they couldn't just pull that. If you ask us, that sauce is kind of weak, because in this day and age, the ability to quickly transfer information between parties is widely known and Capcom could've easily picked up a phone and called whomever they needed to. Also, there's, uh, e-mail.<br /><br />If you want to see the original ending credits, cruise past the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/the-okami-goofs-continue-clover-contributions-pulled-from-wii-port-end-credits/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Okami goofs continue: Clover contributions pulled from Wii port end credits</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/the-okami-goofs-continue-clover-contributions-pulled-from-wii-port-end-credits/">The Okami goofs continue: Clover contributions pulled from Wii port end credits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 May 2008 20:00:00 EST. Posting on the official blog of his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/ex-clover-dev-team-buries-seeds-to-form-platinum-games/">new studio</a> Platinum Games, <em>Okami</em> director Hideki Kamiya, who developed the original PlayStation 2 version with the now <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/12/capcom-squashes-clover-lights-out-for-bright-studio/">defunct</a> Clover Studio, <a href="http://platinumgames-blog.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2008/04/post_4cb1.html">addresses</a> (<a href="http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=16464768311">in English</a>) Capcom's "incredibly disappointing" decision to cut the original credits. Capcom <a href="http://www.capcom.com/BBS/showpost.php?p=515812&amp;postcount=2">says</a> the cut was made because the original staff roll, which is a pre-rendered movie, contains the Clover logo (at the very, very end), and since Clover was not involved with the Wii port directly, Capcom had "no right" to leave the old logo. Capcom claims it couldn't remove the logo (at the very, very end) because it didn't have the source file. <span style="font-style: italic;">What, couldn't pick up a phone or fire off a few emails?</span><br />
<br />
Kamiya explains that it's not simply the removal of his name and the staff names from the credits that upsets him. "Of course, we all have pride in our work; we all want to stand up and say 'I made this!' Yet more importantly, I find it extremely regrettable that the <em>omoi</em> that went into the staff roll is gone from the game as well." (A translator's note explains "omoi" is "best defined as a combination of thoughts, emotions, and messages.") Kamiya stresses the importance of this post-game omoi, specifically describing the relevance of <span style="font-style: italic;">Okami's</span> original credits in relation to the epic length of the game. "It was a special staff roll for a special moment," writes Kamiya. "And now it is gone."<br />
<br />
Jeez, after the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/uh-ohkami-capcom-botches-okami-wii-box-art-inadvertently-adver/">watermark debacle</a>, Wii's <em>Okami</em> seemed transformed into a "comedy of errors." Now it's just a true tragedy, huh?<br />

Europe, sad news: you're getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a>. No, no, that's not the bad part, as the really horrible part of this news is just <em>when</em> you're getting the game. That day is June 13th. It's a tough wait, we know, but the critics seem to think <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/metareview-okami/">it's worth your time</a>. <br /><br />Europe, are you going to wait for the Wii version to release in June? Or, are you going to check out the PS2 version instead? It's okay, you can be honest with us. We won't judge you <em>too much</em>.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/okami-gets-dated-for-europe/">Okami gets dated for Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 17:00:00 EST. In order to share the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/capcom-fixes-the-okami-boxart-goof-awesomely/">replacement <em>Okami</em> boxarts</a> with people outside the U.S. (to whom they can't ship the printed copies), Capcom has made the boxarts available as PDF downloads, in a big, take-it-to-Kinko's resolution. Capcom's one-time blunder is becoming more of a boon to fans every day.<br /><br />We checked the new version of the original design for IGN watermarks, and didn't see one. That means that you can place the IGN watermark <em>wherever you'd like! You</em> now have the power to choose the size, location, and opacity of the IGN logo on your <em>Okami</em> boxart. For that matter, you could use <em>any watermark you like!</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/print-your-own-okami-boxart-ign-watermark-optional/">Print your own Okami boxart, IGN watermark optional</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 19:00:00 EST.
