As further proof that geek Dads are the very best Dads, YouTube user <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/nglemb">nglemb</a> demonstrates that all you need to forge a lasting Father-son memory with your progeny is painter's tape, mini-marshmallows and a little imagination.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/29/the-most-adorable-game-of-real-life-pac-man-youll-see-today/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The most adorable game of real-life Pac-Man you'll see today</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/29/the-most-adorable-game-of-real-life-pac-man-youll-see-today/">The most adorable game of real-life Pac-Man you'll see today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Oct 2011 11:30:00 EST. If you need a disconcerting reminder of Google's power, you need look no further than May 21, when the search giant got the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/21/google-celebrates-pac-mans-30th-with-playable-logo/">entire planet</a> excited to play <em>Pac-Man</em> using only its logo. If you never want to search for anything on the internet again without the potential for distraction, we've got great news (or bad news, <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/10153286.stm">if you're an employer</a>): The Pac-themed logo has become a <a href="http://www.google.com/pacman/">permanent fixture here</a>.<br />
<br />
So as not to be left behind, we've enabled the Joystiq logo to play chess. Just set the board up in front of your screen and wait for its first move. Oh, don't let the wait fool you, it just needs a while to think. ... Should be just a moment or two more now.<br />

Let's say it's February 2007, one year ago. A bedraggled, foul smelling man, wearing a sign that reads "The End is Nigh," approaches you and grabs you violently by the collar. He leans in close, his sour whisky breath burning your nostrils, and whispers, "<em>One year from now, </em>Pac-Man<em> will be nominated for a Game Developers Choice Award!</em>" The breath is so strong that you shut your eyes tight. Upon reopening them, the man is gone. You question your sanity, wondering if he was even real. A <em>Pac-Man</em> game nominated in 2008? Preposterous!<br /><br />Rest assured, he was real, and he was <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/850/850424p1.html">right</a>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/namco/">Namco Bandai Games</a> have announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pacmance"><em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em></a>, released in June 2007, has been nominated for Best Downloadable Game in the eighth annual Game Developers Choice Awards, which are set to take place during the Game Developers Conference later this month. Sometimes it's a very, very bad idea to personify gaming legends -- the <a href="http://poopbear.deviantart.com/art/Pacman-76294291">cast of <em>Pac-Man</em></a>, for example. The lines of spittle jumping out of his mouth, however, give us great ideas for power-ups. We try not to highlight eBay auctions unless they're absolutely ridiculous, and this one takes the (lying) cake. That broken potato chip is being <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/UR-Pac-Man-POTATO-CHIP-Atari-2600-NES-SNES-Nintendo-Wii_W0QQitemZ370012346880QQihZ024QQcategoryZ187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting">auctioned off as Pac Man</a>, and of course someone has placed a bid for it to the tune of $100. Are the winning bidder and auction holder co-conspirators? We really, really hope so. (Thanks, Brian) Check out the highlights for today:<br /><br /><strong>Joystiquery<br /></strong><a target="_blank" title="View DS Fanboy Lite: Jan. 6 - Jan. 11 on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/ds-fanboy-lite-jan-6-jan-11/">DS Fanboy Lite: Jan. 6 - Jan. 11</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View Joystiq Podcast 033 - CES 2008 edition on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/joystiq-podcast-033-ces-2008-edition/">Joystiq Podcast 033 - CES 2008 edition</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View Today's crossover video: Soul Calibur Star Wars on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/todays-crossover-video-soul-calibur-star-wars/">Today's crossover video: Soul Calibur Star Wars</a><br /><br /><strong>News<br /></strong><a target="_blank" title="View PSN Thursday: Folklore keeps telling tales, demo Stardust in HD on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/psn-thursday-folklore-keeps-telling-tales-and-demo-your-stardus/">PSN Thursday: Folklore keeps telling tales, demo Stardust in HD</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View Assassin's Creed DS is 'Altair's Chronicles,' a prequel on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/assassins-creed-ds-is-altairs-chronicles-a-prequel/">Assassin's Creed DS is 'Altair's Chronicles,' a prequel</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View SCi pulls out of buyout talks, stock plunges following Tomb Raider delay on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/sci-pulls-out-of-buyout-talks-stock-plunges-following-tomb-raid/">SCi pulls out of buyout talks, stock plunges following Tomb Raider delay</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View Alone in the Dark delayed until September on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/alone-in-the-dark-delayed-until-sept/">Alone in the Dark delayed until September</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View Jaffe comes out for a unified game console standard on Joystiq" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/jaffe-comes-out-for-a-unified-game-console-standard/">Jaffe comes out for a unified game console standard</a><br /><a target="_blank" title="View Wal-Mart 'ends' $20 Smash Bros. A French street artist known as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invader_(artist)">Space Invader</a> created this brilliant piece for an exhibit called "The Streets of Europe." We're sure you recognize these troublesome ghosts from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pac-man/"><em>Pac-Man</em></a> franchise, which were made so retroliciously from<em> Rubik's Cubes</em>. The concept is so simple yet brilliant that we can't help but be awed. <br /><br />If you should feel so inclined to see this work of art in person, head to the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York City during the month of December.<br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://technabob.com/blog/2007/12/03/space-invader-rubiks-cube-pac-man/">Technabob</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/04/pac-man-and-rubiks-cubes-make-a-marriage-of-artistic-genius/">Pac-Man and Rubik's Cubes make a marriage of artistic genius</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Dec 2007 22:34:00 EST. Of the reported 150 nominations, 16 titles were ultimately chosen and, of those, four were noted for being most frequently noted.<br /><br />The four top-honored games are <em>Tetris, Pong, Doom </em>and <em>Pac-Man</em>. Though we agree with much of the list, we're still left feeling some titles were unfortunately overlooked (e.g. <em>E.T., Custer's Revenge</em>). What do you think of the list?<br /><br /><strong>See Also: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/12/10-most-important-video-games-of-all-time-as-judged-by-2-design/"><br /></a></strong><a href="javascript:void(0);/*1188240651915*/">10 most important video games of all time, as judged by 2 designers, 2 academics, and 1 lowly blogger</a><br /><br />[Image credit: <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/senechaux/1174313119/">Senechaux</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/27/lgc07-german-journalists-experts-pick-all-time-most-influentia/">LGC07: German journalists, experts pick all-time most influential games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Aug 2007 16:55:00 EST. If you told us that device would also be able to replicate the games of hundreds of upright arcade cabinets, we might very well have exploded with anticipation.<br /><br />So far, the efforts to <a href="http://code.google.com/p/iphone-sdl-mame/">port</a> the ubiquitous <a href="http://mamedev.org/">Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator</a> to the iPhone have had pretty limited results -- anything more complex than <em>Pac-Man</em> or <em>Q*Bert</em> reportedly runs into some hefty performance problems. Still, we can't help but imagine the possibilities that will come with some more development time. Pac-Man and Mrs. Pac-Man (formerly Ms. Pac-Man) now in holy matrimony (picture thanks to <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/thatwouldbeseven/880499347/">Pink Chiefette</a>). Sure, there are some new screens of the new versions of <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac_'n_Roll">Pac 'n Roll</a> </em>and<em> Pac-Motos, </em>and maybe they do look fun, in a budget party game sort of way, but we glossed right over them for screens of 20+year-old arcade games, because that's how we (Pac'n) roll.<br /><br />We're strange people, we suppose. But when we saw those screenshots of <em>Gaplus,</em> <em>Pac and Pal</em>, and especially our beloved <em>Pac-Mania</em> and its brilliant background image (CRAZYMAN!!), we <em>knew. </em>We got a terrible feeling that <em>we will buy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/NamcoMuseumRemix/">Namco Museum Remix</a>.</em> There. We said it. We only hope we can get the message out to Bandai Namco that we want <em>more real classics </em>and <em>fewer wacky remakes. </em>And please, some games that haven't been released in previous <em>Namco Museums.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/24/the-real-games-in-namco-museum-remix/">The real games in Namco Museum Remix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Jul 2007 09:50:00 EST. CONFIRMED: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/09/vc-friday-straightforward-killing/">Namco Museum Remix</a></em> continues to be insane. Not that we expected them to, but Namco did <em>not</em> go back and change <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaga">Galaga</a></em> back to regular <em>Galaga.</em> We are still living in a world where a description of <em>Galaga </em>can include the phrase "Pac-Man rolls on a tube in outer space." <br /><br />This is the "new" <em>Galaga</em> in which, instead of shooting from a ship at the bottom of the screen, you shoot the alien ships by pointing and shooting at them with the Wiimote, shooting-gallery style, and you can also use the analog stick to make Pac-Man jump.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rally-X">Rally-X</a> </em>was still <em>Rally-X</em>, but with speed boosting, which seems like an okay addition. These were still the only two playable games, so we'll have to wait to see how Namco is <strike>ru</strike><strike>ining</strike> updating the rest of their classics.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/e307-namco-museum-remix-is-still-weird/">E307: Namco Museum Remix is still weird</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Jul 2007 15:35:00 EST. We remember feeling quite special about the Playstation versions-- they were the <em>real</em> versions of <em>real arcade games! At home! </em>But now the <em>Namco Museum </em>series is, itself, old. How old?<br /><br /><em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyrie_No_Densetsu">Valkyrie no Densetsu</a> </em>(1989) was eight years old when it was released on <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_Museum#Namco_Museum_Volume_5">Namco Museum Vol. 5</a>.</em> The original <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namco_Museum">Namco Museum</a> </em>Playstation game is eleven years old. In other words, <em>Namco Museum</em> is now older, in relative terms, than a game that was old enough for <em>Namco Museum.</em><br /><br />Speaking of the Playstation editions, the new <em>Namco Museum DS </em>has something not seen since those days: an actual museum mode, in the form of a trophy collection and music player, as well as scanned instructions and flyers. <em><br /><br /></em>Relatively newer features include bottom-screen maps and hints for <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaga">Galaga</a> (?), <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xevious">Xevious</a>, </em>and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Druaga">The Tower of Druaga</a>.</em> Of course, the most exciting relatively-new thing is <em>Pac-Man Vs.</em>, which, now that it won't require so much of a financial outlay, we may actually try with another person.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/09/namco-museum-screens-are-as-new-as-namco-museum-screens-can-be/">Namco Museum screens are as new as Namco Museum screens can be</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jul 2007 11:30:00 EST. In honor of Father's Day, we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsd">thought we'd ask</a> a themed question: Who's your favorite father and son/daughter team? Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., or, uh, hmm. Oh, how about Bowser and the Koopa Kids? Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man? Pitfall Harry and Harry Jr. from <em>Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure?</em> <br /><br />Man, we already had to go to <em>Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure? </em>Maybe you guys can think of more. We can't be retrogaming encyclopedias <em>every day, </em>okay? It would be pretty hard to limit this to the DS, but if you can think of DS characters, you win at commenting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/17/ds-daily-happy-fathers-day/">DS Daily: Happy Father's Day!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Jun 2007 10:00:00 EST. Greenberg went on to say that <em>Pac-Man CE</em> is not a simple port of the old game, but is almost a sequel in it's own right with new gameplay, artwork, music and HD implementation added. So, he feels that the 800 Microsoft points that the game costs is more than reasonable for what you're getting.<br /><br />And if you're a regular <a href="http://podcasts.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/06/11/xbox-360-fancast-020-poppin-caps/">Fancast</a> listener, you'll know that we were all impressed by the new <em>Championship Edition</em> and most of us were happy to plop down our Microsoft points. We also agree that it's more of a sequel than anything else, but it's ultimately up to you if you think 800 points is worth a new (and extremely fun) <em>Pac-Man</em> experience. So, is the pricing overkill or is it in line with other Arcade offerings?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/microsoft-defends-pac-man-ce-pricing/">Microsoft defends Pac-Man CE pricing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2007 14:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com//tag/achievements101">X3F Achievements 101</a> is back, and on its regularly scheduled time slot of Sundays. Initial response to our first edition was rather positive, so we're glad you like the concept and hope you enjoy reading, and even participating in the column. Emails with Achievement tips also came in at a good pace, and I look forward to playing and trading with you. One particular email stood out, which came from Casey over at <a href="http://www.brains-n-brawn.com/">brains-N-brawn.com</a>, and the steps he took to get Achievements in one of the most time consuming Arcade games, <em>Bejeweled 2</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/x3f-achievements-101-bots-bosses-and-babalities/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: Bots, Bosses and Babalities</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/11/x3f-achievements-101-bots-bosses-and-babalities/">X3F Achievements 101: Bots, Bosses and Babalities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2007 01:30:00 EST. Fearing that the championship would be ignored -- and the game announcement unnoticed -- Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/06/04/major-xbox-announcement-coming-tomorrow/" target="_blank">let it be known</a> that "video game history" would be made through a surprise revelation during the competition. Though Greenberg would later back out of his overstatement, word had spread, rumors ignited, and, for a moment, all eyes were watching for a megaton out of SupperClub in Manhattan's Times Square. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-championship-edition-for-xbox-360-is-the-big-news/">The news</a> came and went with a few groans and a shrug.<br /><br />But someone was listening with eager anticipation last September when Microsoft <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/20/tgs-xbla-pac-man-world-championship-in-07/">announced</a> plans to co-host a Pac-Man World Championship with the game's creator Toru Iwatani. Most of us were too busy tracking Sony and Nintendo's last-minute moves to notice -- just about everything Microsoft dragged overseas to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/tgs/">Tokyo Game Show</a> seemed irrelevant at the time. But when Microsoft again talked "World Championship" in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/xbla-pac-man-world-championship-begins-next-week/">mid-April</a>, this time with a date and details, a few more ears perked up and a few more Xbox 360s were sold (yeah, just for <span style="font-style: italic;">Pac-Man</span> -- and just a few). And then, on Wednesday, April 25th, some of us started competing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/chasing-pellets-pac-man-tries-to-make-history-again/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chasing pellets: Pac-Man tries to make history again</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/chasing-pellets-pac-man-tries-to-make-history-again/">Chasing pellets: Pac-Man tries to make history again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Jun 2007 11:43:00 EST. European residents can enter the giveaway by answering a rather easy <em>Pac-Man</em> related question over on their site to win prizes galore. What prizes you ask. Well, good question. They're giving away five 12-Month XBL Vision Gold Packs, five XBLA retro tshirts, and fifteen codes to download the new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/">Pac-Man Championship Edition</a></em> game off the Arcade. So, head on over to their site and enter the giveaway before June 13th. Remember, you must be a European resident, North Americans need not apply.<br /><br />[Thanks, eLiNeS]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/win-pac-man-live-subscriptions-and-vision-cams/">Win Pac-Man, Live subscriptions and Vision cams</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 14:00:00 EST. <div align="left">As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-gets-an-upgrade-hits-xbla-tomorrow/">announced</a> yesterday, today's Xbox Live Arcade <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/06/arcade-pac-man-championship-edition.aspx">release</a> is <em>Pac-Man: Championship Edition.</em> For 800 Microsoft Points, you can get a revisited <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/">look</a> at the Pac-Man experience, with reworked gameplay and mazes, complimented by psychedelic graphics scheme. But in the end, some would say that it's still just Pac-Man, and you can get the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/09/pac-man-is-out-boyeeee/">original</a>, and his<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/08/ms-pac-man-waka-wakas-xbla-this-week/"> female counterpart</a> for the same price as CE. So will you be giving this a shot, or are you going to shoo him <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/wokka-wokka-first-pac-man-ce-images-video/">away</a>? And the countless rest of you that were disappointed by Microsoft's not-so-big announcement of <em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em> for Xbox 360.<br /><br />At the Pac-Man tournament in New York City, we were able to dedicate ample time (hours, maybe) to the final Xbox 360 version of <em>Pac-Man</em>. <em>Championship Edition</em> is, in fact, a true sequel to the original <em>Pac-Man</em> released 26 years ago. Certainly, that seems unimaginable to some -- but there are significant additions to the classic arcade gameplay that make this far more than a pretty HD remake.<br /><br />The new widescreen perspective is taken advantage fully in this Xbox 360 exclusive. While the game is still about avoiding ghosts and eating pellets, the wider field of play has created a new dynamic to the title. The maze is now separated into two distinct halves: left and right. Instead of simple mazes that end at the collection of all the pellets, players will find that the mazes feature an endless supply of dots, and a constantly shape-shifting map. When successfully consuming a sufficient amount of pellets on one side of the field, one of <em>Pac-Man</em>'s iconic fruits will appear for collection. Eating the fruit will send a rippling shockwave toward the other half of the field, replenishing the dots, and oftentimes, changing the design of the maze entirely.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/">Pac-Man Championship Edition (XBLA)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264716"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_logo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264713"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264712"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264722"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-championship-edition-xbla/#264717"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/pac-man-ce_screenshot12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/pac-man-championship-edition-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pac-Man Championship Edition hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/pac-man-championship-edition-hands-on/">Pac-Man Championship Edition hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 00:01:00 EST. We've uncovered the first images of the game, and even a video of the game in motion. Put simply, this isn't your daddy's <em>Pac-Man</em>. It's damned close, but certainly different. The most obvious change is the new psychedelic graphics. The most important change, however, is that the game comes with several new modes and mazes. In our favorite mode, you have to eat fruit in order to make more dots appear on screen. Check out the <em>Pac-Man CE</em> gallery below. Hit the "read" link to see the <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/p/pacmanchampionshipeditionxboxlivearcade/default.htm">official game page</a>, where you can check out more screens and a video. NAMCO and Microsoft just announced that the<em> Pac-Man Championship Edition</em> will be headed to the XBLA and will feature the first new mazes in over 26 years. The new <em>Championship Edition</em> is exclusive to the XBLA and will stick with the standard 80's 2D presentation, but will include added features and gameplay. The game will feature six new timed game modes, a new soundtrack, a new HD presentation, and brand new dynamically changing mazes. NAMCO's <em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em> will be available this Wednesday on the Arcade for 800 Microsoft points. Full press release after the break.<br /><br />We know this news is extremely exciting for <em>Pac-Man</em> fans around the world as this is the first time the original <em>Pac-Man</em> game has been updated with new content. But for the rest of us who were expecting a BIG Xbox announcement, we can't help but feel a little saddened as our imaginations and expectations may have gotten the best of us.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-gets-an-upgrade-hits-xbla-tomorrow/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pac-Man gets an upgrade, hits XBLA tomorrow</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/pac-man-gets-an-upgrade-hits-xbla-tomorrow/">Pac-Man gets an upgrade, hits XBLA tomorrow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jun 2007 13:30:00 EST. And after giving the video a watch, is it just us or do you feel just a little bit sorry for <em>Pac-Man</em>? Mr. Moore has quite the dirty British mouth and his vulgarities are maybe just a little unwarranted. Unless <em>Pac-Man</em> did something unspeakably wrong to make Peter angry, something like eating the last cherry from the company fridge.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/05/peter-moore-hates-pac-man/">Peter Moore hates Pac-Man</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Jun 2007 11:30:00 EST. The major complaint about Namco's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-2204069-1167800?url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;field-keywords=namco+museum&amp;Go.x=0&amp;Go.y=0&amp;Go=Go"><em>Museum</em> series</a> of retro compilations is that they're just <em>too faithful</em> to their arcade counterparts. People don't want exact arcade translations anymore, they want games remade unrecognizably in 3D! They want Pac-Man randomly inserted into every game!<br /><br />At least, that seems to be Namco Bandai's thinking. Either that or they weren't sure how else to rerelease <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/vc-monday-madness-more-ninja-than-you-can-shake-a-shuriken-at/">games</a> they're already <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/09/vc-friday-straightforward-killing/">selling</a> on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/virtual-console">Virtual Console</a>. The result is <em>Namco Museum Remix</em>, a set of Namco classics, now with more waggle, depth, and Pac! The remixed games include <em>Galaga, Pac-Motos, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rally-X">Rally-X</a>, Gator Panic, </em>and <em>Pac 'n Roll</em>, which is apparently a classic now despite not even being two years old. For that matter, <em>Gator Panic</em> seems to be based on a <a href="http://mobilegamefaqs.com/gameinfo.php?id=139&amp;name=Gator+Panic">cell phone game</a> which is itself based on the Whack-a-Mole like redemption game, and we have no idea what <em>Pac-Motos</em> was originally. Interesting what passes for "classics" these days!<br /><br />In addition to the remixes, the collection includes <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutie_Q">Cutie Q</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dig_Dug">Dig Dug</a>, Galaxian, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaplus">Gaplus</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mappy">Mappy</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac_%26_Pal">Pac &amp; Pal</a>, Pac-Mania,<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Pac-Man"> Super Pac-Man</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xevious/">Xevious</a>. We poke fun at Namco for selling the same games over and over again, but this is an okay selection of somewhat less common stuff! Sorry to everyone who bought NES <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/12/vc-friday-lackluster-week-for-downloadable-games/"><em>Xevious </em></a>on the Virtual Console.<br /><br />Check out our gallery of screens from the remixed games. Some are faithful, like <em>Rally-X,</em> and others are completely incomprehensible, like the image at the top of this post, which is supposed to be <em>Galaga.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/">Namco Museum Remix</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444222"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_07_pacn_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444221"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_06_motos_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_05_galaga_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444219"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_03_pacn_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/namco-museum-remix/#444218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/10/1p_01_galaga_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/namco-goes-insane-after-too-many-namco-museum-releases/">Namco goes insane after too many Namco Museum releases</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 May 2007 12:20:00 EST. <p>Sure, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/virtua-tennis/"><em>Virtua Tennis 3</em></a> had some strange gimmicks ... like collecting giant pieces of fruit whilst avoiding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/19/new-virtua-tennis-3-screens/">deadly bouldering tennis balls</a>. But Namco's upcoming <em>Smash Court Tennis</em> looks to out-do quite possibly every tennis game ever made with this utterly brilliant duo of retro-themed gameplay modes. Above, you'll see the rad flavors of <em>Pac-Man</em> infused into the typically high-brow sport of tennis. After the cut, you'll see some equally cool gameplay inspired by the retro groove of <em>Galaga</em>.<br /><br />These simple additions have made this game suddenly shoot up much higher on our radar. For some "regular" (aka "boring") gameplay, don't forget to check out our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/smash-court-tennis">previous coverage</a> of the game.</p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/pac-man-tennis-love/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pac-Man + tennis = love</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/15/pac-man-tennis-love/">Pac-Man + tennis = love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 15 May 2007 10:00:00 EST. Can't score in the millions? Don't worry, scoring a million points in <em>Pac-Man</em> is a cake walk, piece of pie, and much easier than baking french bread ... really. That is, if you read the <em>Pac-Man</em> strategy guide "<em>Break A Million at Pac-Man</em>" which is based off the 1982 book. What you say? You can't find the book and dislike the 80's? No problem, because <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/05/06/how-to-get-score-a-million-on-pac-man.aspx">Major Nelson</a> posted the strategy guide in <a href="http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/pac_man/break_pac_man.pdf">PDF form</a> online, so you can learn not only basic <em>Pac-Man</em> strategies, but each level's patterns and simple memory aids to help you earn your millions points. As promised, we have chosen the winner at random and that winner is (drum roll, please) doggity! Doggity wins the contest with his incredibly applicable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/because-we-love-you-free-pac-man-from-x3f/13#c4656651">comment</a>, "I love free stuff!" Congratulations doggity, your download code for <em>Pac-Man</em> is on the way. If you didn't win the contest -- and there were a lot of you -- don't fret. It looks like the folks at <a href="http://www.gamerscoreblog.com">Gamerscore Blog</a> and <a href="http://www.unclegamer.com/">Uncle Gamer</a> heeded our call for more free stuff, and we have secured 6 more copies of <em>Pac-Man</em> to give away. But we're a little embarrassed to say that we couldn't specifically nail down where you can download it other than by clicking on a rotating advertising banner. So, you may have to dig around the Marketplace until you find a <em>Pac-Man</em> ad. We guess it was a little too hard for the XBLM gods to put the theme in the gamer pictures and themes new releases section. Oh well, it's pretty interesting, free, and therefore worth all the XBLM detective work. So give it a download ... if you can find it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/26/free-pac-man-tournament-theme-available/">Free Pac-Man tournament theme available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Apr 2007 13:00:00 EST. Well, we might enjoy late night walks on the beach just a <em>little bit</em> more, but that's beside the point. The point is this, Godfree over at <a href="http://www.gamertagradio.com">Gamertag Radio</a> was nice enough to hook us up with a free download of Pac-Man for Xbox Live Arcade. In celebration of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/xbla-pac-man-world-championship-next-week/"><em>Pac-Man</em> World Championship</a>, we're giving it away to one lucky commenter. <br /><br />Yeah, we know. It's a retro game and we only have one copy, but it's free! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Tomorrow, we'll pick a comment at random and email the download code to the author. Couldn't be simpler. If the odds of winning our single copy frighten you, don't forget that The Xbox Domain is giving away <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/win-pac-man-play-game-be-happy/">5 copies</a>. Good luck.<br /><br /><em>General contest stuff: Only one entry per person. Winner will be chosen at random using a number generator at <a href="http://random.org/">Random.org</a>. Because there is a certain <em>Pac-Man</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/18/xbla-pac-man-world-championship-next-week/">world championship</a> taking place soon and they want you to join in on the fun. The game sports single pack multiplayer and is priced at $20. Other games in the collection include <em>Dig Dug II</em>, <em>Xevious</em>, <em>Pac-Man, Mappy, Galaxian, Galaga, </em>and<em> Tower of Druaga</em>. We're happy paying $20 just for the multiplayer <em>Pac-Man VS</em> action.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28213&amp;">Evil Avatar</a>; thanks, Sam!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/pac-man-vs-coming-to-ds-via-namco-museum/">Pac-Man VS coming to DS via Namco Museum</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Apr 2007 17:55:00 EST.
