The free-to-play MMOs <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dc-universe-online"><i>DC Universe Online</i></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/planetside-2"><i>PlanetSide 2</i></a> will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play when they hit the PS4 later this year, publisher Sony Online Entertainment <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/13/4424908/dc-universe-online-planetside-2-ps4-playstation-plus-not-required">confirmed</a> with Polygon during E3 last week.<br />
<br />
Sony <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/ps4-online-multiplayer-requires-ps-plus/">announced</a> during E3 that a PlayStation Plus membership is required for online multiplayer in PS4 games, leading some to question whether free-to-play games would be exempt from the platform's subscription requirements.<br />
<br />
"As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it's a publisher's decision whether they put it inside or outside of the PlayStation Plus requirements," Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said.<br />
<br />
Yoshida additionally confirmed that the PS4 versions of Zombie Studios' <i>Blacklight: Retribution</i> and Digital Extremes' <i>Warframe</i> will be free-to-play, and will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/ps4-planetside-2-dc-universe-online-will-not-require-playstatio/">PS4 PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online will not require PlayStation Plus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 16:00:00 EST. In an effort to tide players over until the games shown at this year's E3 are ready to be released, Sony has <a href="https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/e3-sale-best-of-2012/cid=STORE-MSF77008-9_E3SALE">kicked off a sale</a> for a handful of last year's best-reviewed games on the PlayStation Network.<br />
<br />
Through next week, PSN users can take advantage of steep price drops for a selection of PS3 retail and PSN-exclusive games, including <i>Tomb Raider, The Walking Dead</i>, and <i>Sound Shapes</i>, among others. PlayStation Plus members get an additional discount on top of Sony's announced sale prices.<br />
<br />
A full list of discounted games is after the break below.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/13/sonys-best-of-2012-e3-sale-now-live-on-playstation-network/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony's 'Best of 2012' E3 sale now live on PlayStation Network</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/13/sonys-best-of-2012-e3-sale-now-live-on-playstation-network/">Sony's 'Best of 2012' E3 sale now live on PlayStation Network</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Jun 2013 16:30:00 EST. Japanese developer G.rev (probably best known as the co-developer of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/ikaruga"><em>Ikaruga</em></a> with Treasure) has announced that <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-03-ikaruga-devs-upcoming-shmup-mamorukun-curse-dated-for-north-america-this-july-on-ps3">it will be bringing</a> its cartoony shoot-em-up <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mamorukun-curse"><em>Mamorukun Curse!</em></a> to North America, courtesy of publisher UFO Interactive Games. As you can see in the trailer, there's some serious bullet-hell action, with the big innovation being that scrolling up the screen is manual rather than automatic. This version will also include the Japanese DLC, which means two new maps, two new characters, and full Trophy support.<br />
<br />
<em>Mamorukun Curse!</em> showed up in Japan back in 2008 as <em>Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta!</em>, but it'll finally arrive in the US on July 16, at a price of $19.99.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/04/g-revs-mamorukun-curse-shoot-em-up-arrives-on-psn-july-16/">G.rev's Mamorukun Curse! shoot-em-up arrives on PSN July 16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Jun 2013 07:00:00 EST. The PlayStation Vita represents an interesting cross-section between traditional console games and mobile apps. During the time I've spent with the handheld, I've found myself gravitating toward its mobile-influenced games; I lost a solid week to <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/jetpack-joyride"><i>Jetpack Joyride</i></a>, and the free-to-play ecosystem sim <i>Ecolibrium</i> is my current obsession. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mens-room-mayhem"><i>Men's Room Mayhem</i></a> is another successful Vita take on mobile gaming concepts, and I've had a lot of fun with it so far.<br />
<br />
<i>Men's Room Mayhem</i> plays similarly to the iOS hit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/flight-control"><i>Flight Control</i></a>, only you're in charge of bladder and bowel relief, rather than air traffic management. Patrons enter your bathroom wishing to use a urinal or a stall. Your job is to guide your customers to their destinations by drawing paths on the Vita's touch screen.<br />
<br />
You'll need to act quickly, though - ignore your waiting customers for too long and you'll have a mess on your hands. Bonus points are awarded for maintaining bathroom etiquette (leaving empty space between urinal users), and for making your patrons wash their hands before exiting.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/03/mens-room-mayhem-review-portabliss/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Men's Room Mayhem: Please wash hands before playing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/03/mens-room-mayhem-review-portabliss/">Men's Room Mayhem: Please wash hands before playing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Jun 2013 09:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/wolfenstein-3d"><em>Wolfenstein 3D</em></a> is back on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in North America after a brief absence, and is coming to PSN in Europe soon. You can snag id's seminal shooter for $5 on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN or Steam.<br />
<br />
Activision had originally published <em>Wolfenstein 3D</em> on consoles just a few weeks after Bethesda <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/bethesda-parent-company-buys-id-software/">acquired id Software</a> in 2009. Bethesda's Pete Hines told Joystiq the re-rating was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/wolfenstein-3d-re-rated-by-esrb-gets-new-page-on-xblm/">a necessity</a> for both the ESRB and console manufacturers. "No changes. Was originally published through Activision, so now that it's reverted back to us we have to jump through ESRB (ratings go to the publisher, they don't "follow" the game to a new publisher) and console hoops (game has to be "re-certed" by the new publisher)."<br />
<br />
A new entry in the series, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/wolfenstein-the-new-order"><em>Wolfenstein: The New Order</em></a>, is currently in development at MachineGames, with a tentative launch window slated for later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/31/wolfenstein-3d-returns-to-xbla-psn/">Wolfenstein 3D returns to XBLA, PSN</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 May 2013 17:30:00 EST. Your patience has paid off. Today, Capcom has issued the full <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/capcom-arcade-cabinet/"><em>Capcom Arcade Cabinet</em></a> collection - a cheaper bundle of all 17 games previously issued in piecemeal packs and as individual downloads. The all-in-one pack is available starting today for 2,000 MS Points ($30), a saving of $15 over purchasing all five game packs.<br />
<br />
<em>Capcom Arcade Cabinet</em> highlights games from the publisher's catalog spanning the years between 1984 and 1988. The full list of 17 games within the <em>Capcom Arcade Cabinet</em> are <em>Black Tiger, Avengers, 1943, The Battle of Midway, Ghosts n Goblins, Gun Smoke, Section Z, Side Arms, Legendary Wings, Trojan, Commando, The Speed Rumbler, Exed Exes (Savage Bees), 1942, SonSon </em>and<em> Pirate Ship Higemaru</em>. There are also two secret games: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/16/capcom-arcade-cabinet-secret-games-are-1943-kai-and-vulgus/"><em>1943 Kai</em> and <em>Vulgus</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/psa-capcom-arcade-cabinet-all-in-one-available-now/">PSA: Capcom Arcade Cabinet all-in-one available now</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 12:00:00 EST. Finnish developer Housemarque <a href="http://www.housemarque.com/2013/05/23/housemarque-developing-a-spiritual-successor-to-the-super-stardust-franchise-on-playstation4/">announced</a> today that it's working on a "spiritual successor" to the Super Stardust series for the PlayStation 4.<br />

Housemarque's twin-stick shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-stardust-hd"><i>Super Stardust HD</i></a> launched as a downloadable title during the PlayStation 3's first year of release. The company followed up with the PS3-exclusive zombie shooter <i>Dead Nation</i> and the multiplatform <i>Outland</i>, and made its PS Vita debut last year with <em>Super Stardust Delta</em>.<br />
<br />
"We truly believe that better technology can lead to better gameplay," Housemarque's CEO Ilari Kuittinen explains. "The more tools and resources we have at our disposal, the better."<br />
<br />
Kuittinen continues: "Think of <i>Super Stardust HD</i>: at the time, PlayStation 3 gave us the opportunity to populate the game with thousands of interactive objects and implement the game's famous 'spherical gameplay'. Today, we can take advantage of the architecture of PlayStation 4 to create incredible visuals with direct impact on the way the new game feels."<br />
<br />
Housemarque additionally revealed that it is working on "another unannounced PS4 project." The company will announce further details regarding both games later this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/super-stardust-spiritual-successor-coming-to-playstation-4/">Super Stardust 'spiritual successor' coming to PlayStation 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-last-of-us"><em>The Last of Us</em></a> launches on June 14, simultaneously on Blu-ray and as a download through PSN. Those who choose the latter route on PS3 will find the game playable once the download has reached 50 percent, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann has told <a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/05/16/the-last-of-us-will-release-be-released-digitally-same-day-as-retail.aspx">Game Informer</a>.<br />
<br />
It's our first taste of PS4-esque functionality, just on the PS3 - as you'll recall, one of the major features touted by Sony is the ability to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/ps4-allows-playing-games-as-theyre-downloading/">play games as they're downloaded</a>. This is accomplished on the PS4 through the use of hardware dedicated to background downloading and processing.<br />
<br />
 <strong>Update:</strong> This is in regards to the PS3. We've added more clear language to that effect.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/last-of-us-digital-version-playable-when-halfway-downloaded/">Last of Us digital version playable when halfway downloaded [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 13:45:00 EST. This week, 23-year-old Ohio resident Todd M. Miller was sentenced to a year of house arrest for destruction of evidence and obstructing a federal investigation into a 2008 hacker-led PlayStation Network breach.<br />
<br />
The Columbus Dispatch <a href="http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2013/05/09/suspected-hacker-sentenced-sony-game-servers.html">reports</a> that US District Judge Peter C. Economus said Miller was a member of the KCUF hacking clan in 2008 when the group organized an attack on the PlayStation Network, potentially compromising user data.<br />
<br />
The FBI contacted Miller while investigating another hack in 2011 that resulted in an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-outage-2011/">extended PSN outage</a>. After obtaining a search warrant, the FBI entered Miller's home to find that his computers were smashed and his hard drives were missing. Lacking evidence to bring up Miller and another suspect on hacking charges, the FBI instead charged Miller with obstructing the investigation.<br />
<br />
While Miller faced up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, he was sentenced to three years of probation and a year of house arrest for obstruction of justice. The judge additionally ordered Miller to obtain a high-school equivalence certificate, as part of his sentencing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/psn-hacking-suspect-sentenced-to-house-arrest-for-destroying-evi/">PSN hacking suspect sentenced to house arrest for destroying evidence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 18:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/netflix">Netflix</a> app on PS3 has been updated, bringing closer design parity with web and mobile applications to the PS3. Netflix has fixed audio stream and subtitle issues in this update, allowing users to fiddle with these while watching content. Before, you had to back out back to the front-end to enable subtitles. If you've got a PS3 Blu-ray remote, just hit the subtitles button to enable.<br />
<br />
The "trickplay" component - a fancy term for fast-forwarding and rewinding through a particular program - has been tweaked to show more image still previews while scanning through content. You can also instantly rewind whatever you're watching ten seconds by pressing left on the DualShock dpad or PlayStation remote.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/netflix-ps3-app-updated-with-improved-subtitles-faster-scanning/">Netflix PS3 app updated with improved subtitles, faster scanning</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 16:15:00 EST. The PlayStation Network will launch an "Indie Games" section for the PlayStation Store later today as part of the standard <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-tuesday">Tuesday update</a>.<br />
<br />
"This category <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/seen-gdc-a-really-big-gamejam-check-sonys-heavy-indie-push-co/">builds on the support</a> that PlayStation has offered independent developers in the effort to highlight some of the most unique gaming experiences on PlayStation platforms," notes the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/07/new-indie-games-category-on-playstation-store/">PlayStation Blog</a>. "This new category will house all of our latest indie titles in one convenient place."<br />
<br />
Clarifying some odd wording on the PlayStation Blog, <a href="http://gamasutra.com/view/news/191829/Indies_are_getting_their_own_PlayStation_Store_section.php">Gamasutra</a> has confirmed that Indie games will reside in both the normal section of the PSN store and this new indies section in Europe. We've confirmed with a representative for Sony America that the plan is to have indie games found in both sections in North America, as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/indie-games-getting-own-section-on-psn/">PSN adding Indie Games section</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 May 2013 10:58:00 EST. <em>Grand Theft Auto</em> and <em>Grand Theft Auto 2 </em>have been rated for PlayStation devices by the ESRB, implying that the two classic crime games are on the way to the PlayStation Network. Yup, if you're as surprised as we are this hadn't happened already, join us in the boat.<br />
<br />
Curiously, rumors of <em>GTA</em> and <em>GTA 2</em> coming to PSN go <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/rumor-classic-gta-street-fighter-alpha-coming-to-psn/">all the way back to February 2008</a>, when Official PlayStation Magazine first heard whispers. The other rumored game from that same article, <em>Street Fighter Alpha</em>, arrived in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/street-fighter-alpha-finally-hitting-psn-on-thursday/">August 2008</a>. GTA certainly took its time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/01/grand-theft-auto-1-and-2-rated-for-playstation-platforms/">Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 rated for PlayStation platforms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 May 2013 09:20:00 EST. The stylized platformer, which was later ported to Genesis, Mega-CD, PC and Mac (amongst others) centers on Conrad B. Apart from numerous bug fixes, the update's hallmark features are the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/skyrim-v1-9-beta-live-on-steam-adds-legendary-skills-and-diffic/">Legendary difficulty setting</a> and Legendary Skill system. In the new system, once a skill reaches level 100, it can be rolled back to level 15. As Bethesda points out in the <a href="http://www.bethblog.com/2013/03/04/now-on-steam-skyrim-1-9-beta-update/">patch notes</a>, this technically removes the level cap from <em>Skyrim</em>.<br /><br />The patch went live on PC <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/skyrim-legendary-update-live-on-steam-later-this-month-stil/">last month</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/08/skyrim-1-9-update-now-on-xbox-later-today-on-ps3/">Skyrim 1.9 update now on Xbox, later today on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Apr 2013 13:30:00 EST. The port, titled <em>Frozen Synapse: Tactics</em>, will be available for download on PSN sometime this year.<br /><br /><em>Frozen Synapse</em> is a turn-based tactical game where players manage units of varying weaponry and skill sets in an attempt to defeat the enemy team's squad; however, unlike most turn-based games, all player actions in <em>Frozen Synapse</em> resolve simultaneously. Once each player sets all their moves, the game then plays it all out at the same time - an atypical yet incredibly original take on the tactics genre.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/01/frozen-synapse-tactics-plans-its-move-to-psn-in-2013/">Frozen Synapse: Tactics plans its move to PSN in 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Feb 2013 21:30:00 EST. This week brings a bunch of discounts for some of 2012's best, including a few bucks off <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/sound-shapes"><em>Sound Shapes</em></a>, <em>Skullgirls</em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tokyo-jungle">Tokyo Jungle</a>,</em> <em>Shadow of the Colossus</em> and many more. Of course, if you're a PlayStation Plus member everything is discounted a tad bit extra.<br /><br />PS Plus subscribers also get their requisite free games this week, including <em>NBA Jam: On Fire Edition</em> and PS Vita puzzle-platformer, <em>Chronovolt</em>. Both of those are available in PS Plus members' Instant Game Collection right now - for the full list of this week's deals, hit up the PlayStation Blog.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/31/psn-monday-skullgirls-sound-shapes-and-more-discounted-free-n/">PSN Monday: Skullgirls, Sound Shapes and more discounted, free NBA Jam for PS Plus members</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 31 Dec 2012 17:00:00 EST. Capcom senior VP Christian Svensson offers a crumb of hope in <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/29593655/playstation-2-classic&amp;post_num=3#527343221">the Capcom forums</a>, saying both will be here "eventually."<br /><br />Svensson says we should hear more about both "next year," and that the "timing will be quite different though from Japan." We can't be sure what he means by the latter statement, but since both saw their reemergence as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ps2-classics">PS2 Classics</a> on Japan's PSN months apart, it's possible there won't be such a gap between releases when they finally arrive in these parts.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/21/capcom-fighting-jam-capcom-vs-snk-2-on-us-psn-eventually/">Capcom Fighting Jam, Capcom vs SNK 2 on US PSN 'eventually'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Dec 2012 03:30:00 EST. Then, they'll finally appear on the PSN in Europe on December 5 for &euro;4.49.<br /><br />You'll find screenshots for each game in the gallery below, and hopefully that'll be enough to tide you over until you get to throw down again in these old-school fighters.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fighting-vipers-xbla-psn/">Fighting Vipers (XBLA/PSN)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fighting-vipers-xbla-psn/#5449162"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/fighting-vipers-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fighting-vipers-xbla-psn/#5449163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/fighting-vipers-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fighting-vipers-xbla-psn/#5449164"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/fighting-vipers-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fighting-vipers-xbla-psn/#5449165"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/fighting-vipers-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fighting-vipers-xbla-psn/#5449166"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/fighting-vipers-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sonic-the-fighters-xbla-psn/">Sonic the Fighters (XBLA/PSN)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sonic-the-fighters-xbla-psn/#5449178"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/sonic-the-fighters-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sonic-the-fighters-xbla-psn/#5449179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/sonic-the-fighters-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sonic-the-fighters-xbla-psn/#5449180"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/sonic-the-fighters-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sonic-the-fighters-xbla-psn/#5449181"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/sonic-the-fighters-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sonic-the-fighters-xbla-psn/#5449182"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/sonic-the-fighters-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/virtua-fighter-2-xbla-psn/">Virtua Fighter 2 (XBLA/PSN)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/virtua-fighter-2-xbla-psn/#5449198"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/virtuafighter2-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/virtua-fighter-2-xbla-psn/#5449199"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/virtuafighter2-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/virtua-fighter-2-xbla-psn/#5449200"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/virtuafighter2-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/virtua-fighter-2-xbla-psn/#5449201"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/virtuafighter2-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/virtua-fighter-2-xbla-psn/#5449202"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/11/virtuafighter2-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/21/segas-am2-fighting-games-arrive-on-xbla-and-psn-next-week/">Sega's AM2 fighting games arrive on XBLA and PSN next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Nov 2012 03:30:00 EST. The "fun size" adventure, which is similar in scope to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ratchet-and-clank-quest-for-booty">Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty</a></em>, is said to actually have more junk in the trunk than the previous bite-size experiment, according to the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/10/26/ratchet-clank-full-frontal-assault-out-1127-for-19-99/">PlayStation Blog</a>. It will also be released at retail for the same price.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/15/ratchet-and-clank-hd-collection-in-na-this-fall-europe-in-may/"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Collection</em></a>, HD updates of the first three PS2 games, launched in late August to celebrate the series' 10th Anniversary, occurring next month. We should also probably note that, in case you never played them, the full-blown Ratchet and Clank PS3 adventures, <em>Tools of Destruction</em> and <em>Crack in Time</em>, are both available at retail for about the same price as this amuse-bouche.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/ratchet-and-clank-full-frontal-assault-priced-begins-nov-27/">Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault begins Nov. 27 for $20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 12:30:00 EST. This Monday, October 15, from 4am PT/7am ET until 4pm PT/7am ET, PSN will experience some downtime.<br /><br />If you've logged into PSN over the past few days or make some time to do so this weekend, you shouldn't be affected. That's not to say you'll have access to all of PSN, though - during the downtime, the PSN Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management sections of PSN will be unavailable.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/13/psa-psn-scheduled-maintenance-on-monday-october-15/">PSA: PSN scheduled maintenance on Monday, October 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Oct 2012 02:00:00 EST. The new design was revealed in London today, with <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2012/10/11/sony-unveils-redesigned-ps-store-live-from-october-17/">VG247</a> reporting the storefront fills the entire screen with a "redesigned UI that places sections for games, movies and TV content on the front page."<br /><br />"It's from a functional perspective that the store will undergo its biggest changes. The search function is now smart, so provides a reductive list of options as each letter of the search phrase is typed," the site notes. "Abbreviations and misspelling will also be covered, allowing users to search for 'MW3' or 'Mas Efect'."<br /><br />PS Vita and PSP receive two separate sections, with PS Store product development manager Elliot Dumville saying a majority of PS Store users search for PS3 content, so partitioning mobile and home makes sense.<br /><br />We'll have more when this is revealed Stateside.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/11/psn-store-refresh-october-17-for-pal-october-23-in-na/">PSN Store refresh October 17 for PAL, October 23 in NA</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Oct 2012 09:00:00 EST. So let's set the record straight: The game will arrive on PSN on December 5, and an actual retail version for the PS3 (complete with early access and a full season pass to the DLC) will be out on December 7. <strike>On the Xbox 360, there won't be a retail version, and the downloadable version will arrive on December 4</strike> [Note: These dates are unfortunately just for Europe. A North American Xbox 360 release hasn't been announced yet].<br /><br />So there you go. By December 8, you'll be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/05/how-guardians-of-middle-earth-innovates-on-the-moba-gametype/">upgrading towers, killing minions</a>, and ganking top lane with Sauron and Gandalf. And on December 14, you'll be watching <em>The Hobbit </em>in theaters. It's almost here!<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Warner says the dates are wrong again. In North America, the PS3 version will be out at retail on December 4, and the PSN version will be downloadable at that same time. There reportedly will be Xbox 360 versions for both XBLA and retail, but official dates on those haven't been announced yet -- Warner is still saying "this fall." In layman's terms that means more people purchased content directly through PSN from April through June of this year than ever before in the service's history.<br /><br />Jack Buser, Senior Director of PlayStation digital platforms at SCEA, told Joystiq this all started back at E3 with the announcement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/10/playstation-plus-amplified-with-more-games-all-other-offers-r/">the Instant Game Collection</a>, and that "membership sales in PS Plus almost doubled" during the week of E3. Since the launch of the Instant Game Collection, five games have managed to dominate in total downloads: <em>inFamous 2</em>, <em>LittleBigPlanet 2</em>, <em>Just Cause 2</em>, <em>Ratchet &amp; Clank All 4 One</em> and <em>Gotham City Imposters</em>. <br /><br />Buser couldn't dive into what he called "the nuts and bolts" of PSN's performance (see: specific numbers) but did assure me the service is growing and becoming a more integral facet of Sony's approach. He also talked at length about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/psn-day-1-digital/">PSN Day 1 Digital</a>, which we'll have for you in a separate piece available later.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/28/psn-sales-up-last-quarter-ps-plus-membership-nearly-doubled-dur/">PSN sales up last quarter, PS Plus membership nearly doubled during E3 week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Sep 2012 13:30:00 EST. The difference between the two PlayStation Network initiatives is that while Day 1 Digital is all launch titles, Essentials covers the classics - well, some are classics, others are just old and tired.<br /><br />Highlights of the of program include the first three Assassin's Creed, <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Far Cry 2</em> and <em>Infamous</em>. The prices begin at &pound;9.99/&euro;14.99, which may be a tough sell as a "bargain," since you can pick up many of these games for less by walking (<em>ew</em>, who wants to do that?) to the store. The main point here is that Sony continues drawing attention to its digital distribution of full games.<br /><br />Check out the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/09/26/ps3-essentials-coming-to-the-playstation-store-today/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SCEEBlog+%28blog.eu.playstation.com%29">full list on the PlayStation EU blog</a>, more games will be added this year to the current offerings.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/26/ps3-essentials-announced-for-PSN/">PS3 Essentials announced for European PlayStation Network</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Sep 2012 09:00:00 EST. The app integrates with both <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3"><em>Rock Band 3</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rock-band-blitz"><em>Rock Band Blitz</em></a>, allowing players to challenge their friends, compare scores, shop for music, and accomplish social goals. Accomplishing said goals can earn players in-game coins for <em>Rock Band Blitz</em>, which can then be used to purchase power-ups.<br /><br />The app is <a href="http://apps.facebook.com/rock-band-world/">now available</a> on Facebook. <em>Rock Band Blitz</em> arrives on PSN August 28 and on XBLA August 29.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/24/rock-band-world-social-app-coming-to-rock-band-3-rock-band-blit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rock Band World social app coming to Rock Band 3, Rock Band Blitz this month</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/24/rock-band-world-social-app-coming-to-rock-band-3-rock-band-blit/">Rock Band World social app coming to Rock Band 3, Rock Band Blitz this month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Aug 2012 10:50:00 EST. That suggests that not only is <em>Toejam and Earl </em>imminent on XBLM, but that it's part of the next bundle of Sega classics for both XBLA and PSN.<br /><br />The last Sega Vintage Collection (Numero 3) came in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/23/psa-sega-vintage-collection-now-available-on-xbla/">May</a>, bringing old-timers like <em>Super-Hang On</em>, <em>The Revenge of Shinobi</em>, and <em>Alex Kidd in Miracle World</em> to 360s and PS3s. What the next collection may offer is anyone's guess - beyond <em>ToeJam and Earl</em>, that is.<br /><br />There remains no official Sega announcement on an XBLA or PSN release of <em>ToeJam and Earl</em>. However, back in July the creators of the game confirmed to <a href="http://www.xblafans.com/ToeJam-And-Earl-Confirmed-For-XBLA">XBLAFans</a> that the publisher is planning to release it on XBLM and PSN. We've reached out to Sega for confirmation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/24/toejam-and-earl-achievements-pop-up-sega-vintage-collection-4-imm/">Toejam &amp; Earl achievements pop up, Sega Vintage Collection 4 imminent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Aug 2012 08:40:00 EST. "We're pretty much complete," Hello Games head Sean Murray told us at Gamescom during a demo of the upcoming 2D Xbox Live Arcade racer. "We're showing the full game here, and hopefully people like it. Hopefully that means we're nearly finished," he said with a smile.<br /><br />Thankfully for fans excited for the new game, reception at Gamescom was very positive. "It's been good, so the game is actually probably gonna come out in the next month or so. Something like that," Murray said. <br /><br />There's only one thing standing between Joe Danger 2: The Movie and launch - certification. "That's where we're heading into now. We're doing the final, 'We shouldn't be changing anything, but we are.' Don't tell our QA!" And what about PlayStation 3 or PC versions? "At the moment, we're just showing and talking about 360. We kind of haven't made any other announcements or anything like that," Murray said. But? "But obviously the original came out on PS3 and 360, so ...," he trailed off. Take that as you will!<br /><br />You'll also be glad to hear that the game is a load of fun - expect a full writeup from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2012">Gamescom 2012</a> later today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/20/joe-danger-2-the-movie-flipping-to-xbla-probably-in-the-next-m/">Joe Danger 2: The Movie flipping to XBLA 'probably in the next month or so'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Aug 2012 10:35:00 EST. In the vague future of 2013, the developer will release <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Mars-War-Logs/">Mars: War Logs</a></em> - a cyberpunk action-RPG for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC.<br /><br />Despite our wild imagination, the Silk Engine powered-<em>Mars: War Logs</em> isn't a futuristic reboot of that one <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iP4s-IOF3E">Ren &amp; Stimpy</a> commercial parody, nor is it a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_Lady">Twin Peaks character</a> simulator in space. "<em>Mars: War Logs</em> offers a wide variety of quests, dynamic tactical combat, and extensive character specialization through different skill trees and a complete craft system," a press release from publisher Focus Home Interactive revealed.<br /><br /><em>Mars: War Logs</em> takes players to the red planet "over a century after the catastrophe that threw the planet and its colonists into chaos." In the game, companies are warring over the limited supply of water found on the arid planet's landscape.<br /><br />As protagonist Roy Temperance, players can customize their combat style by selecting from "dozens of skills and perks," fighting in real-time against the creatures on Mars. Our suspicion is that the final boss will take the highly-evolved form of NASA's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1coV7XqE1M&amp;feature=fvst">Curiosity</a> rover.<br /><br />More details on the game, including an outline of features, can be found in the press release after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/16/mars-war-logs-coming-to-xbla-psn-and-pc-in-2013/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mars: War Logs coming to XBLA, PSN and PC in 2013</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/16/mars-war-logs-coming-to-xbla-psn-and-pc-in-2013/">Mars: War Logs coming to XBLA, PSN and PC in 2013</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Aug 2012 21:00:00 EST. It looks like Europe won't be affected this time.<br /><br />The routine maintenance will go down basically the same as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/psn-maintenance-scheduled-for-today-log-in-to-retain-access/">last week's maintenance</a> - if you signed into PSN in the last few days, you should have no problem accessing apps and playing games during the downtime; however, if you haven't logged in recently, you'll be shut out. Relax, you still have some time to log in!<br /><br />The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/01/psn-maintenance-scheduled-for-tonight/">PlayStation Blog</a> says PSN should be back up and running around 2am PT (5am ET). During the maintenance, both the PSN Store and Account Management will be inaccessible.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/01/psa-psn-maintenance-tonight-should-last-two-hours/">PSA: PSN maintenance tonight, should last two hours</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Aug 2012 21:30:00 EST. The bank robbing bad guys from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/payday-the-heist"><em>Payday</em></a> are getting crossed with <em>Left 4 Dead</em>'s zombie-filled Mercy Hospital - apparently prior to the events of L4D - in an upcoming mission pack. Indeed, <em>Grand Theft Auto 3</em> is joining the no-frills lineup next Tuesday for $10.<br /><br />The news was revealed on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/07/26/playstation-blogcast-035-the-unfinished-assassin/">latest PlayStation podcast</a> among other PSN releases for next week. Like all PS2 classics, <em>GTA3</em> isn't getting an HD update or Trophy support. Also, that <em>Vice City</em> ESRB listing hasn't panned out just yet, but we're sure it's on the way.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/27/grand-theft-auto-3-coming-to-psn-next-tuesday-no-word-on-vice-c/">Grand Theft Auto 3 coming to PSN next Tuesday, no word on Vice City just yet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jul 2012 13:00:00 EST. Seriously, guys, read <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/17/dyad-review/">our review</a>. We like <em>Dyad</em> a whole lot. Joining <em>Dyad</em> on the PSN side are a pair of <em>Resident Evil</em> games: <em>Umbrella Chronicles</em> and <em>Darkside Chronicles</em>, both available for $14.99 each.<br /><br />PS Plus members get some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/16/upcoming-ps-plus-deals-dyad-20-off-free-psone-sports-games/">free PSOne Classics</a> to download this week, while those with some cash to burn can snag full PS3 downloads of <em>Crysis 2</em> and <em>Record of Agarest War 2</em>. Plenty of games are on sale this week, too, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fight-night-champion"><em>Fight Night Champion</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/marvel-vs-capcom-2"><em>Marvel vs Capcom 2</em></a>.
