In Japan-always-seems-to-have-the-coolest-3DS-skins news, the country's getting a new Metallic Red 3DS as well as - and we admit we're particularly jealous of this one - a very limited edition 3DS XL skin based on Eevee, the adorable critter from the Pok&eacute;mon series.<br />
<br />
The striped 3DS XL, which rather resembles 1960s wallpaper, was spotted by <a href="http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/7117840.html">Hachima</a> being advertized in one of Japan's official Pok&eacute;mon Center stores. Like last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/charizard-3ds-xl-lights-up-japanese-pokemon-centers/">Charizard 3DS XL</a>, the &yen;18,900 system ($185) is only available via reservations, which then go into a lottery to win the chance to buy the system. In other words, this is one of those times when the words 'limited edition' genuinely apply. The lottery is being held until June 3.<br />
<br />
More freely available is the Metallic Red 3DS below, which will be released for &yen;15,000 ($147) on June 13. Like the Light Blue and Gloss Pink models announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/27/3ds-light-blue-gloss-pink-models-announced-for-japan/">earlier this year,</a> it includes a 4GB SD card.<br />

Four new Pokemon for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-x-y"><em>Pokemon X and Y</em></a> grace the pages of CoroCoro magazine, spotted and captured on film by <a href="http://www.serebii.net/index2.shtml">Serebii.net</a>. The fresh faces are a Fighting-type panda, Yanchamu; a rideable Grass-type, Gogoat; a Normal, Flying-type bird, Yayakoma; and an Electric-type, floppy-eared lizard creature.<br />
<br />
The scan places <em>Pokemon X and Y</em> in the Karos region and says the game will support trainer hair and skin color customization. These four new Pokemon follow <em>Pokemon X and Y</em>'s Mewtwo-inspired character, whom we've come to call Mewtwo With a Handle, or more lovingly, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/18/pokemon-x-and-ys-new-pokemon-is-or-was-mewtwo/">Super Saiyan Mewtwo</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/pokemon-x-and-y-gets-four-new-characters-of-various-types/">Pokemon X and Y gets four new characters of various types</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 May 2013 11:40:00 EST. Set to appear in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-x-y">Pokemon X and Y</a></em>, this unnamed creature bears a striking resemblance to the first Pokemon that fans would reserve their lone Master Ball for in <em>Pokemon Red and Blue</em>, Mewtwo.<br /><br />While the developer hasn't revealed whether the unnamed Pokemon will be a new form or evolution of Mewtwo, the Pokemon Company did specifically refer to it as a new creature. Yes, we want to call it "Mewthree" as much as you do. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y-mewtwo/">Pokemon X / Y (Mewtwo)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y-mewtwo/#5795496"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/move-a_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y-mewtwo/#5795497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/move-b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y-mewtwo/#5795498"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/move-c_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y-mewtwo/#5795499"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/move-d_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y-mewtwo/#5795500"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/newpokemon300dpi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/07/new-mewtwo-like-pokemon-revealed-for-x-and-y/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Mewtwo-like Pokemon revealed for X and Y</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/07/new-mewtwo-like-pokemon-revealed-for-x-and-y/">New Mewtwo-like Pokemon revealed for X and Y</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 07 Apr 2013 12:00:00 EST. There's just no substitute for personal adventures, Gym battles, and friendship."<br /><br />It's only in the fantasy world of Pok&eacute;mon that leaving home and wandering the woods from town to town at age 10 - basically becoming a tween drifter - is a sensible career move. Stay in school, kids! And drink your milk.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/01/april-fools-pokemon-mastery-degrees/">April Fools: Pokemon Mastery degrees</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Apr 2013 20:30:00 EST. Try as we might, even with countless handheld video games, external apps, console spin-offs, toys, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/gavin-mackeys-artwork-captures-pokemon-our-nightmares/">nightmares</a> and more, Pok&eacute;mon just hasn't quite invaded every single facet of our lives. The Pok&eacute;mon Company aims to change that with the new Pok&eacute;mon TV app for <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pokemon-tv/id594261405?mt=8&amp;ign-mpt=uo%3D2">iOS</a> and Android.<br /><br />As the name implies, the app allows you to watch full episodes of the Pok&eacute;mon TV show anywhere you want, as well as "special features, trailers, and Pok&eacute;mon movie events." New episodes will be released weekly and, best of all (most insidious of all?), the app is free.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/12/pokemon-tv-app-lets-you-watch-pokemon-on-ios-android/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pokemon TV app lets you watch Pokemon on iOS, Android</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/12/pokemon-tv-app-lets-you-watch-pokemon-on-ios-android/">Pokemon TV app lets you watch Pokemon on iOS, Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Feb 2013 14:30:00 EST. Now you can see it, along with its contemporaries Froakie and Chespin and legendaries Xerneas and Yveltal, in a more official capacity, thanks to character art and screens released by the Pok&eacute;mon Company.<br /><br />Along with these handsome portraits, the company revealed the heights and weights of both legendaries for some reason. Xerneas stands 9'10" and weighs in at 474 pounds, while Yveltal is 19 feet tall and weighs 447.5 lb. Now imagine keeping both of those hooked to your belt.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y/">Pokemon X / Y</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y/#5567635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/chespin-screenshot-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y/#5567636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/chespin-screenshot-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y/#5567637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/fennekin-screenshot-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y/#5567639"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/fennekin-screenshot-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-x-y/#5567640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/froakie-screenshot-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/14/a-closer-look-at-pokemon-x-and-ys-starters/">A closer look at Pokemon X and Y's starters</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 09:30:00 EST. Starting up on Saturday, December 29, the team is going to start up <a href="http://extralives.org/pokethon3announcement">three different <em>Pok&eacute;mon</em> sessions</a> at the same time, marathoning Nintendo's addictive little monster capture RPG all the way into 2013.<br /><br />They'll start with the old Game Boy titles, and then make their way up into the DS era, campaigning the whole time to try and raise money for charity.<br /><br />The marathon will begin at noon on Saturday, and each of the three streamed screens will be running a different version of <em>Pokemon</em>, so you'll get to see for sure just how different the game is if you go with Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle for your first pet. The <a href="http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hack_games">infamous <em>Pok&eacute;mon</em> bootlegs</a> will also be making an appearance. All the money will be going to <a href="http://www.freethechildren.com/">Free the Children</a>, so it's for a great cause.<br /><br />Our heartfelt holiday donations: Let us show you them.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/26/extralives-aims-to-hit-100k-for-charity-with-pokemon-marathon-t/">ExtraLives aims to hit $100K for charity with Pokémon marathon this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Dec 2012 23:00:00 EST. The app allows users to browse various Pok&eacute;mon, check out their stats, learn where to find them, how to evolve them and more.<br /><br />The <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pokedex-for-ios/id573135437?mt=8&amp;ign-mpt=uo%3D2">$1.99 purchase</a> of the iOS Pok&eacute;dex will get you access to Pok&eacute;mon from the Unova region. The four remaining regions can be purchased for $5.99 each. In other words, topping up the entire Pok&eacute;dex will run you about 26 bucks. It seems really out of character for a Pok&eacute;mon product to support such obsessive-compulsive purchases, but there you go.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokedex-ios/">Pokedex (iOS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokedex-ios/#5489624"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/pokedex-25en_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokedex-ios/#5489625"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/pokedex-36en_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokedex-ios/#5489626"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/pokedex-37en_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokedex-ios/#5489627"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/12/pokedex-42en_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/10/pokemon-pokedex-comes-to-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pokémon Pokedex comes to iOS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/10/pokemon-pokedex-comes-to-ios/">Pokémon Pokedex comes to iOS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Dec 2012 12:30:00 EST. While the Junior and Senior Division challenges have been available for some time in the game, Monday's inclusion of the top four from the Masters Division Challenge will round out the special challenge event.<br /><br />Players can battle the 12 total championship teams by progressing to the Pokemon World Tournament located in Driftveil City in the game. The full list of the teams and their Pokemon lineups can be seen after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/18/real-life-elite-four-coming-to-pokemon-black-and-white-2-novembe/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Real-life Elite Four coming to Pokemon Black and White 2 November 19</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/18/real-life-elite-four-coming-to-pokemon-black-and-white-2-novembe/">Real-life Elite Four coming to Pokemon Black and White 2 November 19</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 Nov 2012 22:30:00 EST. The Charizard 3DS XL/LL above will be released in Japan on December 15 ... only in Pokemon Center stores, and only to people who send in an order form and then win the chance to buy it.<br /><br />The &yen;18,900 ($237) handheld features Charizard's face and wings on the front, with a design that continues on the back of the unit, including a brightly colored flame. It looks pretty exciting, even if it'll all be upside down while you're playing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/charizard-3ds-xl-lights-up-japanese-pokemon-centers/">Charizard 3DS XL lights up Japanese Pokemon Centers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 10:30:00 EST. "The way that Pokemon are stuffed into pokeballs is similar to how circuses chain elephants inside railroad cars and let them out only to perform confusing and often painful tricks that were taught using sharp steel-tipped bullhooks and electric shock prods."<br /><br />This isn't PETA's first foray into activist gaming; in December 2010 it released <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/01/super-meat-boy-fried-by-peta-tofu-boy/"><em>Super Tofu Boy</em></a>, a parody of <em>Super Meat Boy</em>. Team Meat responded to PETA by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/tofu-boy-being-added-to-super-meat-boy-pc-in-next-patch/">including Tofu Boy</a> as a playable character in a Steam update of <em>Super Meat Boy.<br /><br />Pokemon Black and Blue</em> demonstrates that while it's terrible to punch, kick, cut or hit fictional animals with bats, it's perfectly acceptable to electrocute humans. Also, words can hurt just as much as quick attacks. And hugs. Give <em>Pokemon Black and Blue</em> a shot in the embedded game below (Warning: It has music and will auto-play).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/08/peta-parody-pokemon-black-and-blue-fights-for-fictional-animal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PETA parody 'Pokemon Black and Blue' fights for fictional animal rights</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/08/peta-parody-pokemon-black-and-blue-fights-for-fictional-animal/">PETA parody 'Pokemon Black and Blue' fights for fictional animal rights</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2012 13:00:00 EST. OSU's show paid tribute to a range of video games, beautifully executed in sight and sound, featuring Pokemon, Mario Bros., Tetris, Halo, Zelda and Pac-Man. We dare you to not get chills.<br /><br />The OSU marching band is one of the few brass- and percussion-only bands in the country, and it boasts 225 members. Keep that in mind if you want to watch one of the Joystiq editors in her 2005 <em>Halo 2</em>-themed <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esUWY10TCi4">high school marching show</a>, with a band of 100, some of which were piccolos (ouch).<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/07/ohio-state-university-marching-band-salutes-video-games/">Ohio State University marching band salutes video games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 07 Oct 2012 17:00:00 EST. For fans, the answer is almost always, "Yes. Definitely. It's perfect for the MMO genre. What's taking so long?"<br /><br />When <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-black-2-white-2"><em>Pokemon Black 2</em> and <em>White 2</em></a> arrive next week - a game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/18/evolving-pokemon-how-black-2-and-white-2-points-to-the-future-o/">I've written about before</a> - someone, somewhere will probably writing a column saying that very thing. But I think it's time that we debunk this idea that a Pokemon MMORPG would automatically be amazing once and for all. Here's the completely hypothetical scenario that would probably happen if a Pokemon MMORPG were to actually be announced.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/27/what-a-pokemon-mmo-would-actually-be-like/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What a Pokemon MMO would be like</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/27/what-a-pokemon-mmo-would-actually-be-like/">What a Pokemon MMO would be like</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2012 17:15:00 EST. Until recently, the franchise's story wasn't much more than an afterthought. Its main virtue was its consistency - you could always count on an evil organization showing up to destroy the world for no real reason at all. With <em>Pokemon Black </em>and<em> White</em>, a sliver of change was added to adjust the formula and pointed the series toward the possibility of more <em>deft</em> storytelling.<br /><br />That trend continues in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-black-2-white-2">Pokemon Black </a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-black-2-white-2">and </a><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-black-2-white-2">Pokemon White 2</a></em>, which takes the time to examine some of the consequences of the previous game. The somewhat deeper story isn't the only new element either. The franchise's first ever numbered sequel brings with it a few other interesting trends, which are apt to continue once the Pokemon series leaps into the Nintendo 3DS market.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-5-15-12/">Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 (5/15/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-5-15-12/#5024790"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/aspertia1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-5-15-12/#5024791"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/aspertia2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-5-15-12/#5024792"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/aspertia3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-5-15-12/#5024797"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/pokemonb2w21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-5-15-12/#5024798"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/pokemonb2w22_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/18/evolving-pokemon-how-black-2-and-white-2-points-to-the-future-o/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Evolving Pokemon: How Black 2 and White 2 points to the future of 'catching them all'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/18/evolving-pokemon-how-black-2-and-white-2-points-to-the-future-o/">Evolving Pokemon: How Black 2 and White 2 points to the future of 'catching them all'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Sep 2012 14:30:00 EST. Pikachu and pals go exploring again in <em>Pok&eacute;mon Mystery Dungeon: Magnagate and the Infinite Labyrinth </em>, coming to Japan later this year. As <a href="http://www.serebii.net/index2.shtml">Serebii</a> reports, the game uses the system's 3D and augmented reality functions.<br /><br />It's the augmented reality features that sound the most interesting. Using the 3DS' camera, players scan real-life objects to unlock portals, or 'magnagates', and these portals take you to dungeons in the game. What you should scan and why remains unclear, but we're definitely going to try our <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pok%C3%A9mon-Pokemon-Pikachu-Slipper-Plush/dp/B001ALZHOM">Pikachu slippers</a> (yes we actually own a pair).<br /><br />There's no word on any Western release date, but previous Mystery Dungeon games came to our shores between six months and a year after being released in Japan.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/13/pokemon-mystery-dungeon-3ds-comes-to-japan-this-winter/">Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3DS comes to Japan this winter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Sep 2012 16:30:00 EST. The play looks similar to that of rhythm-based platformer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bit-trip-runner"><em>Bit.Trip Runner</em></a>.<br /><br />No word on any international release, of course, but with the Pok&eacute;mon tie-in it seems likely. <a href="http://andriasang.com/con2fo/ndirect_live_blog/">Andriasang</a> notes Nintendo will release an Iwata Asks for the game later today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/29/pokemon-devs-launching-3ds-eshop-game-in-japan-next-week/">Pokemon devs launching 3DS eShop game in Japan next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Aug 2012 08:30:00 EST. Pokemon caught in this game, including "some hard-to-get Pokemon," can be transferred into <em>Black 2</em> and <em>White 2</em>.<br /><br /><em>Pokedex 3D Pro</em> is an upgraded version of the free Pokedex 3D app, with "detailed information about the more than 600 Pok&eacute;mon featured in the history of the Pok&eacute;mon video game series." Unlike Pokedex 3D, which hid many of its contents behind AR markers, everyone is unlocked from the start.<br /><br />Pricing information was not announced for North America, but <em>Dream Radar</em> and <em>Pokedex 3D Pro</em> sell for 300 yen ($3.75) and 1,500 yen ($18.77) in Japan respectively. You can't traverse the Internet stream without hearing, "That's just like...."<br /> <br /> We all loved <em>Pokemon</em>, so why wouldn't you want a game that is very similar, but much better? Games like <em>Empire Earth</em> and <em>Age of Empires 2</em>, or <em>Torchlight </em>and <em>Diablo 2</em> are very similar, much like <em>Monster MMORPG</em> and <em>Pokemon</em>. They were all still very successful.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/23/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-monster-mmorpg/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Monster MMORPG</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/23/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-monster-mmorpg/">The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Monster MMORPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Mar 2012 20:45:00 EST. A brief press release from the publisher said that the DS sequels will arrive in North America this fall -- ensuring one more crazy holiday season for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo didn't offer any more details about the content of the games, or what it means to have a "Version 2" of a previously released Pokemon game.<br /><br />Alongside this announcement, Nintendo issued slightly bigger character art of the new Black Kyurem and White Kyurem Pokemon -- but didn't label them! Published by "Home of Anime" with Daniel Burford listed as the author, the "game" runs for $0.99 and has a one-and-a-half star rating after 1,352 reviews. According to said reviews, the app crashes after the title screen and cannot actually be played.<br /><br />As if the simple existence of a <em>Pokemon</em> game on the App Store weren't enough of a red flag, the listing's screenshots aren't even from <em>Pokemon Yellow</em>, they're actually from <em>Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green</em>. The app's description also contains unattributed "press quotes" and a statement that "all trademarks and copyrights are owned by their respective owners," because everyone knows that admitting your copyright infringement absolves you of all responsibility, right? We've reached out to Apple for comment.<br /><br /><small>Editor's Note: My faulty, old-man brain confused the fact that <em>Pokemon Yellow</em> launched with a Poke-themed Game Boy Color, with it actually being a Game Boy Color game (which it was not). I've exploded an Electrode in penance. </small><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/20/fake-pokemon-yellow-ends-up-on-ios-app-store/">Fake Pokemon Yellow ends up on iOS App Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Feb 2012 11:30:00 EST. We're all hopeless romantics, but you don't need to be as in love with being in love as we are to recognize how precious, touching and clever these gaming themed Valentine's Day card templates are.<br /><br />Made by Etsy user PaperRockScisorz and available at <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/PaperRockScisorz">her shop</a>, these print-your-own card templates feature Pokemon, Dr. Mario, Sonic, Zelda and Portal motifs with cutesy sayings and pixel hearts at $2.75 a pop. It's an easy and inexpensive way to show your significant other that you care, assuming you're lucky enough to share your life with a person that loves games as much as you do. If you're <em>not</em> that lucky, well, maybe get them a gift card or something. Single people are advised to dress up like a member of their preferred gender and have a romantic candle-lit dinner with themselves in a mirror. We had spent years learning every minute detail about the original 151, and suddenly all of that work and devotion was worthless? What's more, it needed <em>repeating</em> with <em>100 more Pokemon</em>? We may have been young tykes, but we were old enough to feel <em>broken</em>.<br /><br />Regardless, the Kanto Pokemon still hold a special place in our hearts, and it's endearing to see one of the most awesome monsters in the OG Pokedex coming back into the fold. Starting on February 12, Mewtwo (<a href="http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mewtwo">#150</a> for you whippersnappers out there) will be distributed to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Pokemon-Black-and-White"><em>Pok&eacute;mon White/Black</em></a> via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service "for a limited time."<br /><br />Further information about the event is forthcoming, but we do know that the legendary clone comes packing "an exclusive move that Mewtwo cannot normally learn," which we're hoping is an ability that takes us back to the days of the PokeRap and Team Rocket's original voice actors.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/catch-mewtwo-in-pokemon-white-and-black-starting-on-feb-12/">Catch Mewtwo in Pokemon White and Black starting on Feb. 12</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 14:00:00 EST. Originally, <a href="http://andriasang.com/comzor/pokemon_musou/">according to the latest Famitsu</a>, the spinoff was going to combine <em>Pokemon</em> with the very popular Tecmo Koei <em>Dynasty Warriors</em> series and its historical setting, which is instead based on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Kingdoms">the Three Kingdoms period</a> in Chinese history.<br /><br />Nintendo felt the <em>Dynasty Warriors</em> series was a little too violent to be matched up with its cute little creatures, however, and so Tecmo Koei pitched the series known more for strategy than action, which Nintendo eventually agreed with. Famitsu also says that though both companies are working on the game, Tecmo Koei is heading up day-to-day development during production.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/20/pokemon-plus-nobunagas-ambition-could-have-been-dynasty-warrior/">Pokemon Plus Nobunaga's Ambition could have been Dynasty Warriors: Pokemon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 06:00:00 EST. Warm up your Bidoofs and polish off your Pawniards, because it's time to start preparing your flock of collectable pocket monsters for the 2012 Pokemon Championship Series! Comprised of a series of battles held across Europe, the top 4 trainers from each tournament will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the Pokemon World Championship in sunny, distinctly non-european Hawaii, USA.<br />
<br />
Players are separated into three divisions based on age: Junior, for those born after 2001, Senior, for those born between 1997 and 2000, and Master, for grizzled old Poke-veterans born before 1996. All participants must bring their own (3)DS and must battle using their regions' version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pokemon-black-and-white"><em>Pokemon Black/White</em></a>. The latest National Pokedex has been opened for use, meaning that all all 646 Pokemon are eligible for ranked tournament battles, save for a small handfull of legendary and extremely rare monsters.
