The bundle contains both <em>Prototype</em> and <em>Prototype 2,</em> the latter released earlier this year. Frankly, ten bucks would be a surprisingly low price for the sequel on its own, let alone bundled with the first game.<br /><br />Prototype hasn't been a popular series at retail, with lackluster sales contributing to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/prototype-studio-radical-entertainment-facing-significant-layo/">"significant" layoffs</a> at developer Radical Entertainment. While Richard felt <em>Prototype 2</em> has far too much inanity in its plot, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/25/prototype-2-review/">his review</a> shows he still enjoyed its destructive qualities.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/15/prototype-series-going-for-9-99-on-pc-at-amazon/">Prototype series going for $9.99 on PC at Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Nov 2012 09:30:00 EST. "The rumours of our closure have been greatly exaggerated - we're still here! More later..."<br /><br />We reached out to Activision Blizzard, of which Radical is a subsidiary, to get a clearer picture of the studio's status. A representative informed us that nothing had changed since the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/prototype-studio-radical-entertainment-facing-significant-layo/">statement</a> in late June. The staff was reduced, but the studio wasn't closed.<br /><br />Radical Entertainment remains open, supporting other existing Activision projects, but the studio has ceased "development of its own games going forward."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/prototype-dev-radical-entertainments-status-hasnt-changed-sinc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype dev Radical Entertainment's status hasn't changed since downsize</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/prototype-dev-radical-entertainments-status-hasnt-changed-sinc/">Prototype dev Radical Entertainment's status hasn't changed since downsize</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 10:00:00 EST. Radical Entertainment writes on its Facebook page:<br /><br />"Hi everyone. Yes, there's some unfortunate news to share today. This morning Radical Entertainment went through a significant reduction in staff. We're very proud of what we achieved with the Prototype franchise, but unfortunately, the Blacklight virus didn't spread as far as it could. For PC gamers, rest assured that the PC version of <em>Prototype 2</em> is still going to launch on July 24 as planned. And a special 'thanks' to the Prototype Army and all our extremely loyal and passionate fans for supporting Radical Entertainment. We couldn't have come this far without you."<br /><br />Radical's parent company Activision said today's layoffs affect "approximately 89 employees or less than 1.5 percent" of its global workforce. Parent company Activision announced the news amid rumors that the company was being altogether shuttered. "[We] have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff," the statement reads. "Approximately 89 employees or less than 1.5% of our global workforce will be impacted," the publisher confirmed to Joystiq.<br /><br />Activision apparently considered an outright sale of the studio, as well as several other, unnamed options, but ended up deciding to lay off the majority of its employees. "Some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects," according to Activision, "but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward."<br /><br />The decision was made following lackluster sales of both Prototype games. "Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience," the piece states. Radical Entertainment is based out of Vancouver, Canada and was formed in 1991.<br /><br />Radical is most well-known for creating the Prototype franchise - its first original IP - though the studio worked on a variety of titles throughout its 32-year history, including the much loved <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Hulk:_Ultimate_Destruction"><em>The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction</em></a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/prototype-studio-radical-entertainment-facing-significant-layo/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype studio Radical Entertainment facing 'significant' layoffs, potential closure</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/28/prototype-studio-radical-entertainment-facing-significant-layo/">Prototype studio Radical Entertainment facing 'significant' layoffs, potential closure</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Jun 2012 16:00:00 EST. It's on sale for $29.99, and will be joined by a new, temporary deal every couple of hours.<br /><br />Currently, that deal is the Wii's Cyberbike, which is, yes, an exercise bike that hooks up to the Wii. <a href="http://thriftynerd.com/2012/05/amazon-lightning-deals-for-5-29-12/">Thrifty Nerd's</a> Googling of the clues for future sales suggest we'll see discounts on <em>Final Fantasy XIII-2, WoW: Cataclysm</em>, the <em>Disgaea 4</em> Premium Edition, and even the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/03/video-review-mad-catz-arcade-fightstick-soul-edition/">SoulCalibur V Arcade Fightstick</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/29/prototype-2-30-at-amazon-gold-box-deals-all-day/">Prototype 2 $30 at Amazon, Gold Box deals all day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2012 09:30:00 EST. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1331&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, <em>Max Payne 3</em> outperformed the previous sequel (from 2003) nearly 10 to 1.<br /> <br /> Chart-Track also noted the third installment in the Payne series bested <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/diablo-3">Diablo 3</a></em> by only about 8,000 sales. With <em>Max Payne 3</em> only available through disc-based sales and <em>Diablo 3</em> available through digital distribution, it would be fair to guess Diablo actually sold more. That is, if you believe <em>Diablo 3</em> sold over 8,000 units online in the UK last week.<br /> <br /> The rest of the top ten are the usual suspects. So, pop some pain killers and shoot past the break for the UK top ten.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/max-payne-3-shoots-past-diablo-3-on-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Max Payne 3 shoots past Diablo 3 on UK Charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/max-payne-3-shoots-past-diablo-3-on-uk-charts/">Max Payne 3 shoots past Diablo 3 on UK Charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 08:45:00 EST. As a whole, the gaming industry (which for our purposes includes all hardware, software and accessories sales between April 1 and April 28, 2012) brought in $630.4 million, a 32 percent decrease over the same period last year, where its various machinations resulted in collective sales of $930.9 million.<br /><br />Breaking the industry down into its three major components, hardware sales accounted for $189.7 million (down 32 percent year over year), while software sales contributed $292.1 million to the cause - a 42 percent decrease year over year. Accessories, on the other hand, posted a 1 percent increase year-over-year at $148.6 million in 2012, as compared with $147.8 million in 2011.<br /><br />The average amount of money spent on hardware increased year-over-year, however, due in part to the 360 <em>Star Wars Kinect</em> Bundle, according to NPD analyst Anita Frazier. Generally though, the period's lackluster performance is due to the month's release schedule: "Last April, the top seven titles outsold the top-selling title this year, and, simply stated, there were notably fewer new market introductions. I think it's a simple as that because when we see compelling content come into the market, the games are still selling as well as ever - we just saw a lot less this April as compared to last."<br /><br />The list of April's top 10 best-selling titles can be found after the break as per usual, with newcomers <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kinect-star-wars"><em>Kinect Star Wars</em></a> leading the charge ahead of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3"><em>Modern Warfare 3</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mario-party-9"><em>Mario Party 9</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mass-effect-3"><em>Mass Effect 3</em></a>.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> According to Microsoft's <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/majornelson/status/200713306963582977">Major Nelson</a>, the Xbox 360 sold 236K units during April.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/10/april-npd-prototype-2-tops-charts-industry-wide-sales-down-32/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>April NPD: Prototype 2 tops charts, industry-wide sales down 32 percent year-over-year</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/10/april-npd-prototype-2-tops-charts-industry-wide-sales-down-32/">April NPD: Prototype 2 tops charts, industry-wide sales down 32 percent year-over-year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 May 2012 18:31:00 EST. The "Colossal Mayhem" pack adds a number of new goodies, including a "Thermobaric Boom-Stick" weapon and a number of new powers and skins for Heller, the game's protagonist. The pack is available now for $5 on PSN and Xbox Live.<br /><br />The next round of DLC, available May 29, has already been announced as well. The "Excessive Force" pack will include a "Viral Infector" grenade launcher and yet more powers and skins. It will also sell for $5.<br /><br />In other <em>Prototype 2</em> news, a companion app has been released for <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.soapcreative.prototype2&amp;feature=more_from_developer%23?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLnNvYXBjcmVhdGl2ZS5wcm90b3R5cGUyIl0.">Android</a> and <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prototype-2-official-sidekick/id516396305?mt=8">iOS</a>. The app allows users to keep track of achievements and in-game collectible thanks to some handy maps that have all collectibles marked. The app itself is free, though it only includes one map, the Yellow Zone. The remaining two maps can be purchased for $2.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/prototype-2-mutates-with-fresh-dlc-ios-and-android-companion-ap/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype 2 mutates with fresh DLC, iOS and Android companion apps</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/09/prototype-2-mutates-with-fresh-dlc-ios-and-android-companion-ap/">Prototype 2 mutates with fresh DLC, iOS and Android companion apps</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 May 2012 11:45:00 EST. Despite the strong premiere, <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1319&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a> notes the sequel couldn't match the first week sales success of the original game. Chart-Track doesn't share raw sales numbers, but it did point out that the game had stronger sales than previous chart-toppers <em>Kinect Star Wars</em> and <em>The Witcher 2</em>.<br /><br />Speaking of <em>Witcher 2</em>, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/23/witcher-2-casts-enhanced-edition-success-spell-on-uk-charts/">held the crown last week</a>, it slipped five spots into sixth place. EA continues to have a winning cluster with <em>FIFA Street, FIFA 12 </em>and <em>Mass Effect 3</em> holding steady close to the top of the charts, with the group maintaining spots two through four, respectively.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/prototype-2">Prototype 2</a></em> was the only new game to break the top 40 last week. Tap your tentacle past the break to check out the UK top ten.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/30/prototype-2-successful-on-uk-charts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype 2 successful on UK charts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/30/prototype-2-successful-on-uk-charts/">Prototype 2 successful on UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Apr 2012 09:15:00 EST. I'm not exactly sure how much I'm willing to put up with, but it's a line that <em>Prototype 2</em> crossed <em>very</em> quickly.<br /><br />Like its predecessor, <em>Prototype 2</em> features some of the best free-form locomotion of this generation. Combat is easy control and allows for a variety of tactical options, so long as you're willing to stick it out long enough to earn them. If only the rest of the experience weren't wrapped up in a mucusy, repugnant membrane of inane plot, forgettable characters and terrible dialogue, <em>Prototype 2</em> would be much, <em>much</em> better off.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-2-16-12/">Prototype 2 (2/16/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-2-16-12/#4825903"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/prototype22.16.121_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-2-16-12/#4825904"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/prototype22.16.122_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-2-16-12/#4825905"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/prototype22.16.123_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-2-16-12/#4825906"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/prototype22.16.124_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-2-16-12/#4825907"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/02/prototype22.16.125_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/25/prototype-2-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype 2 review: Stalkin' New York</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/25/prototype-2-review/">Prototype 2 review: Stalkin' New York</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 19:15:00 EST. In the realm of physical goodies, the collector's edition includes a hardbound art book and a soundtrack CD. Digital bonuses include all of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/prototype-2-on-pc-pushed-to-july-24-radnet-edition-announced/">RADNET Edition</a> content, the "Colossal Mayhem" DLC pack, Avatar gear for the Xbox and dynamic themes for PS3. The pack also includes a digital Dark Horse comic entitled either "Labrinth" or "Labryinth" depending on whether you trust the press release or the above trailer (yeah, it's <em>probably</em> "Labyrinth"). The final "bonus" in the collector's edition is a voucher for 20 percent off your first purchase of <em>Prototype</em> merchandise.<br /><br />The press release notes that the Blackwatch Collector's Edition is now available for pre-order, though we haven't been able to find it online just yet. Whenever it does arrive, it will retail for $80.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/15/prototype-2-mutates-into-blackwatch-collectors-edition/">Prototype 2 mutates into Blackwatch Collector's Edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Feb 2012 12:30:00 EST. While the console versions are slated for April 24, the PC version will not arrive until July 24, according to a recent post on the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/Prototype/posts/318896808154255">Prototype Facebook page</a> (requires login).<br /><br />No reason for the delay was given, though "more details" are promised "soon." Of course, given the recent trend of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/10/ghost-recon-future-soldier-launch-delayed-to-may-22-in-na-may/">delaying</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/20/batman-arkham-city-pc-delayed-until-november/">big-budget PC releases</a> well past their console counterparts, it's not exactly surprising.<br /><br />In other news, Activision has announced the RADNET Edition of <em>Prototype 2</em> for Xbox 360 and PS3, available in "a limited number of the launch quantities". Specifically, it grants players access to RADNET, which "gives fans 55 free pieces of additional content delivered for seven weeks following the game's launch." The weekly content will include a range of items, from in-game mutations to Avatar items and videos.<br /><br />The press release specifies that RADNET will be redeemed via an included code in new copies of the game. Call it a hunch, but we're betting those who buy used will be able to pick up a code for, oh, let's say around <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/online-pass">ten dollars</a>.<br /><br />So, summing up, it's appears that the PC version got a three month delay on the same day we learned about two months of bonus content for new copies of the console version. <em>Coincidence</em>?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/prototype-2-on-pc-pushed-to-july-24-radnet-edition-announced/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype 2 on PC pushed to July 24, RADNET Edition announced</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/31/prototype-2-on-pc-pushed-to-july-24-radnet-edition-announced/">Prototype 2 on PC pushed to July 24, RADNET Edition announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Jan 2012 18:00:00 EST. If you need to be reminded about <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2">Prototype 2</a> </em>periodically -- by, say, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/activision-slices-off-a-little-prototype-2-game-for-ios/">tie-in iOS app</a> or another promotional item -- we've got great news. Dark Horse will publish a bi-weekly comic series starting February 15.<br />
<br />
The first issue, "The Anchor," catches up with <em>Prototype 1's</em> Alex Mercer. The second, "The Survivors," focuses on a few New York residents trying to get out of the city. And the third introduces <em>Prototype 2 </em>protagonist Sgt. James Heller.<br />
<br />
The comics will be sold through digital.darkhorse.com. If these are successful, they might continue with all your favorite comic book tropes, like the universe-rebooting event and the Alien and Predator crossovers.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-comics/">Prototype 2 (Comics)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-comics/#4758553"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/prototype11701_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-comics/#4758554"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/prototype11702_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/prototype-comic-series-available-digitally-next-month/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype comic series available digitally next month</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/prototype-comic-series-available-digitally-next-month/">Prototype comic series available digitally next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jan 2012 23:59:00 EST. If you pre-order <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a> from GameStop, you'll get a modified version of the game's Bio-Bomb ability. As opposed to tossing infected enemies and watching them explode, the "Butt Kicker" ability allows you to kick them. In the butt. <em>Really</em> hard.<br />

It's perhaps a strange motivation for pre-orders, but, as the video above makes clear, it's hard to deny the maneuver's effectiveness.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/07/gamestops-prototype-2-pre-order-bonus-is-actually-called-butt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GameStop's Prototype 2 pre-order bonus is actually called 'Butt Kicker'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/07/gamestops-prototype-2-pre-order-bonus-is-actually-called-butt/">GameStop's Prototype 2 pre-order bonus is actually called 'Butt Kicker'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 Jan 2012 06:00:00 EST. The latest <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a> developer video details, among other things, the game's new hunting system. Essentially, it's an a sonar system that helps protagonist James Heller locate his enemies. Joystiq's biotech branch has developed a similar hunting mutation, but it only works on hot dog stands.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/17/prototype-2-developer-diary-goes-hunting/">Prototype 2 developer diary goes hunting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 17 Dec 2011 05:00:00 EST. <br />
Activision is promoting <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a> with a tie-in iOS game, released ... several months before <em>Prototype 2</em>. <em>Protoslice</em> is a puzzle game from Twitchgames, based on its game <em><a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/slice-hd/id420262366?mt=8">Slice</a></em>, in which you move a bunch of James Heller's Blade Arms out of the way of on-screen buttons.<br />
<br />
If you accidentally touch the sharp parts of any of the blades, you'll be sliced! Hence the clever name. Protoslice is out now, for a price appropriate for its promotional nature: nothing. So there's no reason not to check it out -- especially if you want something Prototype-y to do between now and April. Unless you're sensitive to images of you getting sliced, in which case you probably weren't going to check out <em>Prototype 2</em>, either.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/activision-slices-off-a-little-prototype-2-game-for-ios/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Activision slices off a little Prototype 2 game for iOS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/activision-slices-off-a-little-prototype-2-game-for-ios/">Activision slices off a little Prototype 2 game for iOS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 17:00:00 EST. Don't be fooled by the beginning of this new video for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype-2">Prototype 2</a></em> -- birds have not replaced Alex as the protagonist and they can't shapeshift into deadly, oozing weaponry. But really, would that be so bad? Also, the things at the end remind us of mutated <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw37obNRjiw&amp;feature=related">goombas</a>, which supports the bird thing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/15/take-a-trip-through-prototype-2s-super-deadly-red-zone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Take a trip through Prototype 2's super deadly 'Red Zone'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/15/take-a-trip-through-prototype-2s-super-deadly-red-zone/">Take a trip through Prototype 2's super deadly 'Red Zone'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 15 Oct 2011 23:30:00 EST. Ever wanted to be killed accidentally by a super-powered monster? If you said "Boy, have I!" you might want to stop loitering at your local nuclear power plant and check out <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Activision and GameStop have partnered to turn pre-orderers into bystanders in the game. "In addition to just seeing themselves in the game," said Radical Entertainment studio head Ken Rosman, "the winners will actually be able to locate their virtual selves and shape-shift Sgt. James Heller into their likeness."<br />
<br />
US and Canada residents age 18 and up can enter by pre-ordering the game at GameStop before September 1 and then entering a drawing online. Winners will be sent to Vancouver to be turned into virtual collateral damage at Radical's HQ.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/10/pre-order-prototype-2-for-a-chance-to-be-in-prototype-2/">Pre-order Prototype 2 for a chance to be in Prototype 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 18:30:00 EST. Kicking off its San Diego Comic Con announcements, game publishing giant Activision today revealed two solid, very different release dates for two <em>hopefully solid</em>, very different games. First up, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a> will surf victims' bodies into retail on April 24, 2012. A new trailer for next year's sequel is available just below the break, fresh from San Diego.<br />
<br />
Additionally, a new trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/x-men-destiny"><em>X-Men Destiny</em></a> was released, which puts a September 27 launch date on the next project from Silicon Knights. Given the origin of both pieces of info, SDCC attendees should be aware that <em>X-Men Destiny</em> will be playable at this week's show, while "15-minute live stage presentations" for <em>Prototype 2</em> will be going off at the Activision booth.<br />

As far as the destructonamiacs here at Joystiq are concerned, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Prototype">Prototype</a></em>'s sandbox mayhem was one of, if not <em>the</em> main selling points for the title. Judging by the latest trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a>, it looks like

So <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a>'s lead James Heller spends the first half of this new trailer complaining about <em>Prototype 1</em> lead Alex Mercer killing his loved ones ... then he cuts like 30 dudes in half. Jim, aren't some of those soldiers spouses themselves? Are you that certain there won't be a <em>Prototype 3</em>?<br />

We're just going to throw this out there, harsh as it may be: Does <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype"><em>Prototype</em></a>, 2009's open world New York-based superhero fantasy title, really need a sequel? Sure, there was some fun to be had in Alex Mercer's shoes, pulling off some over-the-top (and often just overwhelming) proto-moves, navigating a New York under alien and military siege. But by the end of the first game, we'd taken out tank after tank after tank, gutted Supreme Hunter after Supreme Hunter, and learned everything we needed to know about Blackwatch and the Blacklight virus, didn't we? There was a lot of game in Prototype -- repeated, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/metareview-prototype/">some might say</a>, more than even its fans wanted.<br />
<br />
Ken Rossman, the studio head at Radical Entertainment, obviously believes we do. He and his studio are hard at work on <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a>, and when we spoke with him at a pre-E3 event a little while ago, he made his case as to why we want to return to this world. The main problem with <em>Prototype</em>, he told us, was that "it had two volumes: 1 and 11. And really there was nothing in that middle range, so either you were in disguise and the world ignored you, sometimes, or all of a sudden you kicked the hornet's nest and the world's on fire. So that was something that we acknowledged and we were like, 'That's something that we need to figure out in a better way.'"<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-6-5-2011/">Prototype 2 (6/5/2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-6-5-2011/#4191646"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/prototype28-1307318409_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-6-5-2011/#4191647"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/prototype27-1307318410_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-6-5-2011/#4191648"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/prototype26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-6-5-2011/#4191649"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/prototype25_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/prototype-2-6-5-2011/#4191650"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/prototype24_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/05/prototype-2-preview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype 2 preview: To Heller and back</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/05/prototype-2-preview/">Prototype 2 preview: To Heller and back</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 05 Jun 2011 20:20:00 EST. The <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a> trailer after the break helps explain why <em>Prototype 1</em> protagonist Alex Mercer is the bad guy in this sequel ... but we don't think it needs all that much justification. He was always a mass-murdering monster; he just happened to be the monster in the player's control before. It's like Godzilla movies -- sometimes he's the bad guy, and sometimes another monster will be tearing up Tokyo and Godzilla becomes the hero by default.<br />
<br />
After the narrative discussion, the trailer treats us to a little footage labeled "Pre-alpha." Luckily, Activision remembered to use that term instead of "Prototype," because that would be <em>so</em> confusing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/21/prototype-2-trailer-explains-alex-mercers-heel-turn/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prototype 2 trailer explains Alex Mercer's heel turn</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/21/prototype-2-trailer-explains-alex-mercers-heel-turn/">Prototype 2 trailer explains Alex Mercer's heel turn</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Apr 2011 10:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2 </em></a>is still far away from the production line (see what we did there?), but Activision is teasing next year's sequel with a trailer providing some lovely flyover shots of an in-game environment. Well, not so lovely for the guy doing the <em>flying</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/14/activision-tosses-out-new-prototype-2-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Activision tosses out new Prototype 2 trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/14/activision-tosses-out-new-prototype-2-trailer/">Activision tosses out new Prototype 2 trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Mar 2011 19:30:00 EST. The latest unveiling at the Spike VGAs is a sequel to 2009's <em>Prototype</em>, unsurprisingly titled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype-2"><em>Prototype 2</em></a>. This time, however, the protagonist isn't Alex Mercer -- instead, he's the target of one Sgt. James Hellen, who seems to have undergone infection himself in an attempt to take out Mercer. The game will launch in 2012. <br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/26/murder-your-maker-teaser-site-hints-at-vga-reveal/">Last week</a>, Activision uploaded a teaser site featuring the tagline "Murder Your Maker," which we hypothesized was hinting at the reveal of a new installment in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype"><em>Prototype</em></a> series during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spike-vga-2010">Spike VGAs</a>. A brief video which was recently added to the site appears to confirm our suspicions.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/04/murder-your-maker-vga-teaser-site-updated-with-prototype-foota/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Murder Your Maker' VGA teaser site updated with Prototype footage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/04/murder-your-maker-vga-teaser-site-updated-with-prototype-foota/">'Murder Your Maker' VGA teaser site updated with Prototype footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Dec 2010 17:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/news/zombie-teaser-resident-evil.html">Gamerzines</a> speculates that a <a href="http://www.spike.com/video/vgas-future-is/3498476">commercial</a> for the upcoming Spike VGAs, which flashes "look closer" and briefly reveals the zombie silhouetted picture above, is teasing a new <em>Resident Evil</em> title. The site concluded this by comparing the teaser image to that of an officially licensed <a href="http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/media/images/vga-zombie-teaser-10376.html"><em>Resident Evil</em> t-shirt</a>. The shirt and teaser image feature matching zombie silhouettes.<br />
<br />
If the teaser is for a new <em>Resident Evil</em> title, a potential reveal could be for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/slant-six">Slant Six Games</a>' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/rumor-socoms-slant-six-working-on-multiplayer-resident-evil/">rumored</a> multiplayer <em>Resident Evil: Raccoon City</em>. Of course, we always prefer to be surprised.<br />
<br />
[<strong>Update</strong>: Looks like someone had their hands in the IP cookie jar - despite an overwhelming similarity to some Resident Evil artwork, this tease was actually for Activision's upcoming <em>Prototype 2</em>.]<br />

Earlier this week, a mysterious <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/spike-vga-2010">Spike VGA 2010</a> site asked its visitors to <a href="http://m.spike.com/lookcloser.rbml;jsessionid=mqeld-gwyjcZV7Nq4QLq1A**">consider the <em>secret meanings</em></a> of two <em>mysterious</em> and <em>secret</em> phrases: "MURDER" and "LOOK CLOSER." Today, a new teaser site offers a few more clues. The page, titled "<a href="http://www.murderyourmaker.com/">Murder Your Maker</a>," features the image seen above: A bald man, staring at a wall covered in maps, newspaper clippings and delicious strands of black licorice. Or, wait. String. Yeah, that's definitely string.<br />
<br />
The "Murder Your Maker" tagline has led some theorists to believe we're looking at a teaser for a sequel to last year's super violent, open-world title, <em>Prototype</em>. Alex Mercer certainly has some <em>daddy issues</em>, but our money is on that new <em>God of War</em> game, where Kratos is literally tasked with killing God. <br />
<br />
Oh, Activision runs the website? Well, in that case ... does "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/16/new-activision-title-bloodhunt-revealed-by-australian-ratings/">Bloodhunt</a>" sound about right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/26/murder-your-maker-teaser-site-hints-at-vga-reveal/">'Murder Your Maker' teaser site hints at VGA reveal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Nov 2010 12:30:00 EST. When the open world smash-em-up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prototype"><em>Prototype</em></a> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/31/prototype-highlander-with-more-mindless-violence/">first revealed</a>, online multiplayer was one of the most exciting features on the docket. Unfortunately, it was discovered last month that the feature (both online and off) has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/30/prototypes-multiplayer-gets-cut-and-we-bleed/">removed from the game</a> so the team at Radical Entertainment can focus on the single-player experience. For those who lamented the loss of multiplayer, we have some almost good news. No, it's still not going to be included in <em>Prototype</em>, but Radical Entertainment's Chris Ansell recently <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=134914">told Eurogamer</a> that it could show up in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/prototype-2">Prototype 2</a></em>. The catch, of course, is that there has to <em>be</em> a <em>Prototype 2</em>. So, if you really want to see how good <em>Prototype</em> multiplayer can be, you'd best hope it sells enough copies to merit a sequel.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/want-multiplayer-in-prototype-2-buy-prototype-1/">Want multiplayer in Prototype 2?
