European PlayStation Plus subscribers have plenty to keep themselves busy with when the rain inevitably lashes down on Wimbledon next month. June's Plus update brings two very different breeds of RPG to the PS3's Instant Game Collection in <em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em> and <em>Demon's Souls</em>, as well the <em>Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection</em>. All three games arrive a wee bit early on May 29.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile on Vita, June features <em>Rayman Origins</em> and <em>Coconut Dodge Revitalized</em> for the portable. Both Vita games join the Collection on June 5. <em>Coconut Dodge Revitalized</em> is the next Futurlab PS Mini to get the HD treatment. As before, the self-explanatory (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/10/coconut-dodge-bounces-to-psn-may-19-in-europe-soon-in-us/">or not</a>) 2D high-scorer gets leaderboards and trophies support on Vita.<br />
<br />
As ever, the revolving door that is PS Plus means new arrivals are countered by departures. <em>Hitman: Absolution</em>, <em>Joe Danger 2</em>, and <em>Dead or Alive 5</em> leave the service on May 29, followed by <em>Sine Mora </em>on June 5, and Futurlab's <em>Velocity Ultra</em> on June 12.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ps-plus-europe-explores-amalur-demons-souls-ico-sotc-in-june/">PS Plus Europe explores Amalur, Demon's Souls, Ico/SotC in June</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 10:15:00 EST. The sequel first surfaced in 2008, and since then Ubisoft has treated it like an obnoxious stepchild, providing vague updates on development, and usually only when a rumor forces a statement.<br /><br />Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot tells <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2012/11/13/3640010/ubisoft-beyond-good-evil-2-still-in-the-works-rayman-titles-slowing">Polygon</a> that the team, headed by Michel Ancel, is still passionate about <em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil 2</em>, but other games, such as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-legends"><em>Rayman Legends</em></a>, have slowed its development.<br /><br />"What's very important is that Michel Ancel is kind of doing too many things at the same time," Guillemot says. "He was working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> last year, and he's working a lot on <em>Rayman Legends</em> this year. So, you know, when he does that, he kind of puts too much of his time on the other projects that he has. So the fact is that working on <em>Legends </em>is slowing the process on <em>Beyond Good &amp; Evil 2</em>."<br /><br /><em>Rayman Legends</em> was recently delayed to Q1 2013 on the Wii U. Perhaps once <em>Legends </em>launches, Ancel and Ubisoft will get to work, for real, on <em>Beyond Good and &amp; Evil 2</em>. And maybe they'll even tell someone about it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/13/beyond-good-and-evil-2-put-on-the-back-burner-to-let-rayman-boil-o/">Beyond Good &amp; Evil 2 put on the back burner to let Rayman boil over</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Nov 2012 15:30:00 EST. According to some images grabbed from a survey and sent to <a href="http://kotaku.com/5904264/marketing-survey-hints-at-a-rayman-origins-sequel-of-mythic-proportions/">Kotaku</a>, a potential sequel could feature dragons, ghosts and gods from Greek mythology - that and the same four-player drop-in/drop-out co-op gameplay.<br /><br />Of course, a survey is hardly a confirmation that something is in the works. Best to keep expectations low. We've inquired with Ubisoft, but received the usual "Ubisoft doesn't comment on rumors" boilerplate.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/23/rumor-rayman-origins-sequel-ideas-show-up-in-marketing-survey/">Rumor: Rayman Origins sequel pitched in marketing survey</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Apr 2012 13:15:00 EST. As most of you know, <em>Rayman: Origins</em> is a completely beautiful platformer that captures everything that is great about the genre -- precise controls, expansive levels, and high challenge. It's at the forefront of the genre's mini-renaissance, which has been ongoing for a few years now.<br /><br />I want all that for Japanese RPGs. More to the point, I think that it can happen, if only an enterprising publisher or developer were to pick up the baton.<br /><br />At the moment, I think there's something of a taboo against the classic form, at least among the larger developers. Even <em>Dragon Quest </em>-- long the bastion of reliability -- has been shaking things up with its multiplayer innovations. The unspoken mandate is that the genre must evolve or die.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/09/what-can-japanese-rpg-developers-learn-from-rayman-origins/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>What can Japanese RPG developers learn from Rayman: Origins?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/09/what-can-japanese-rpg-developers-learn-from-rayman-origins/">What can Japanese RPG developers learn from Rayman: Origins?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Mar 2012 09:00:00 EST. Yes, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/15/rayman-origins-is-actually-profitable-for-ubisoft/">it made money</a>, but not nearly enough people appreciated the beauty of Rayman's hand-drawn return.<br /><br />If that's the case, then it's time to fix that little omission. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/rayman-origins-coming-to-pc-march-29-retail-versions-drm-free/">Steam is releasing</a> <em>Rayman Origins</em> on March 29, and there's now a demo available for the low price of completely free. You can also note that Steam preorders will also get a copy of <em>Rayman 2: The Great Escape</em>, so there's yet another reason to get you some of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/10/rayman-origins-review/">that "goofy, heart-swelling joy."</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/03/rayman-origins-demo-out-now-on-steam/">Rayman Origins demo out now on Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Mar 2012 05:00:00 EST. Although the publisher didn't share sales figures or what the budget was for the title on today's investor call, <em>Rayman Origin</em>s' apparent lack of sales success didn't make it a complete financial failure.<br /><br />"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/15/ubisoft-shipped-13-million-just-dance-games-in-2011-nearly-7-mi/">Two successes</a> more than compensated for the performance of <em>Rayman: Origins</em>, <em>Tintin</em> and the non-dance Kinect titles," said Alain Martinez, chief financial officer for Ubisoft on today's call. "We believe <em>Rayman: Origins</em>, which is rated 89 percent on Metacritic with enthusiast reviews and is already profitable, has the capacity to become a long-term seller for the company."<br /><br /><em>Rayman Origins</em>, which has been a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/10/rayman-origins-review/">critical darling</a> for combining classic platforming with lush visuals, is currently in process of being ported to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/26/rayman-origins-coming-to-pc-march-29-retail-versions-drm-free/">every platform in existence</a>. Downloadable 3DS demos were promised as part of the last big firmware update. They started showing up in Japan in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/26/3ds-demos-available-in-japan-today-including-re-revelations-m/">December</a>, and they're finally making their way to North America, starting with tomorrow's demo of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Next week, on January 26, Sega will follow with a demo of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/mario-and-sonic-at-the-london-2012-olympic-games"><em>Mario &amp; Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games</em></a>, allowing you to satisfy your curiosity about the mascot minigame collection without anyone else ever knowing. Upcoming demos coming at unspecified dates include <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-snake-eater-3d"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/18/3ds-demos-coming-to-eshop-in-north-america-starting-with-reside/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>3DS demos coming to eShop in North America, starting with Resident Evil</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/18/3ds-demos-coming-to-eshop-in-north-america-starting-with-reside/">3DS demos coming to eShop in North America, starting with Resident Evil</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Jan 2012 08:40:00 EST. While it sadly didn't make it into our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/joystiq-best-of-2011">top ten list for 2011</a>, <em>Rayman Origins</em> is arguably one of the most beautiful games of 2011, if not ever. And now our starved-for-visuals friends across the pond with 3DSes get to experience it before us.<br />
<br />
Well, okay, we only <em>assume</em> they'll get first crack -- Ubisoft has yet to comment on a North American launch date, instead affixing a vague Q1 2012 time-frame to the title. <em>Rayman Origins</em> will launch on the 3DS on March 16 across Europe, <a href="http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/34095/rayman-origins-3ds-release-date-announced/">Official Nintendo Magazine</a> confirms. Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions have been available in the region since back in November.<br />
<br />
We've contacted Ubisoft to see when <em>Rayman Origins 3DS</em> will launch in North America and will update this post accordingly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/rayman-origins-3ds-brings-beauty-to-europe-on-march-16-still-no/">Rayman Origins 3DS brings beauty to Europe on March 16, still no NA launch date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Jan 2012 22:00:00 EST. <em><strong><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins">Rayman Origins</a> </strong></em><br />
If you asked what my favorite game of the 2011 was, I would tell you it was <em>Dark Souls</em>, which made the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/02/joystiq-top-10-of-2011-dark-souls/">number eight slot</a> in our prestigious top ten. If, however, you asked me which game instilled me with the most pure, unbridled joy, I would say it was <em>Rayman Origins</em> without a moment's hesitation.<br />
<br />
Providing both a fresh experience and an invigorating jolt of nostalgia for the days when platformers were king, Rayman Origins is a must-play.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/04/best-of-the-rest-richards-picks-of-2011/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Richard's picks of 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/04/best-of-the-rest-richards-picks-of-2011/">Best of the Rest: Richard's picks of 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jan 2012 20:30:00 EST. <strong><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/battlefield-3"><em>Battlefield 3</em></a></strong><br />
I love <em>Battlefield 3</em>. I love it almost as much as it seems to hate its players.<br />
<br />
At least, that's the way it feels sometimes, trying to get into a game, trying to get correctly squaded up, trying to find a server with room, having to use a server browser on consoles in 2011, downloading 2 GIGABYTE patches ... y u no luv me, <em>BF3</em>?<br />

This year's great platformer nobody bought, <em>Rayman Origins</em>, is just one of the alluring items on sale in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop">GameStop</a>'s new year sale. Now you can fix that by totally buying <em>Rayman: Origins</em> for $30. Just a suggestion!<br />
<br />
If you're looking to upgrade that crummy launch unit or finally see what this "next gen" is all about, GameStop is also offering a pretty sweet Xbox 360 package. A 250GB Xbox 360 S without <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/kinect/">Kinect</a> will net shoppers a $75 gift card. If you want Kinect, GameStop has knocked off $20, bringing it down to $129.99.<br />
<br />
This GameStop sale lasts until January 3, so you'll need to act relatively quickly. For the full weekly ad, hit up the source link below.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/29/gamestop-deals-75-gift-card-with-new-xbox-360-rayman-origins/">Gamestop deals: $75 gift card with new Xbox 360, Rayman Origins for $30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Dec 2011 18:15:00 EST. The AP has unleashed its list of top ten games this year and ... it's a pretty competent list. Not only did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bastion"><em>Bastion</em></a> make the cut, but so did <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> and, as you may have guessed from the headline to this very post, <em>Portal 2</em>.<br />
<br />
Valve's game took top honors, followed by <em>Skyrim</em> and then <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>. Rounding out the top five are <em>Bastion</em> and Rocksteady's sequel, <em>Batman: Arkham City</em>. In a year so full of great games, we envy <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/portal-2-skyrim-top-thrilling-games-122355168.html">AP's finished list</a> -- for us, the work of choosing our favorite games of 2011 is only about to begin.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/20/portal-2-crowned-best-game-of-2011-by-the-associated-press/">Portal 2 crowned best game of 2011 by the Associated Press</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Dec 2011 19:00:00 EST. Big games are still hitting shelves, and at least one member of this episode's Now Playing segment would argue that one of them is a hurdle to marriage - <em>see what you've done Todd Howard?</em> It's not all Justin pouring love on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skyrim"><em>The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim</em></a> though, Griffin has a few things to say about <i><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3">Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3</a>, </i>and Richard has some kind words for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><i>Rayman Origins</i></a>.<br />
<br />
In Part 2 Richard chats with Jamie Dillion, Project Manager at <a href="http://www.childsplaycharity.org/">Child's Play</a>. If you are not familiar with this Penny Arcade-founded charity for children's hospitals, you may just be a bad person, but here's where you can turn it all around.<br />
<br />
This week's show final segment continues the philanthropic trend with an interview with <a href="http://loadingreadyrun.com/">LoadingReadyRun</a>'s Graham Stark, Paul Saunders, and Kathleen De Vere about their annual masochistic charity drive, <a href="http://desertbus.org/">Desert Bus for Hope</a>.<br />

When I was a kid, video games didn't have "features," at least not in the way we know them today. There was no online multiplayer, no leaderboards, no persistent character progression. There were no detailed stat tracking services (with social integration, of course). If anything, a game might have had local multiplayer which, in those days, we simply called "two-player."<br />
<br />
Like the games of my youth, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> has almost no modern features. What it does have is an overwhelming sense of joy that I haven't felt for a very long time.<br />

If you've yet to become acquainted with Rayman, you'll be able to participate in a brief meet-and-greet next week, when a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> demo comes to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. He's animated, rambunctious, and extremely French, so don't be shy about shaking his hand. Just don't cause an inappropriate stir when you realize there's no arm attached to it.<br />
<br />
According to Ubisoft, the demo offers three playable maps, lifted from the full platformer's "Jungle," "Ocean" and "Food" worlds, as well as an unlockable costume. And in case you missed it back there: <em>Food World</em>. <em>World of Food</em>.<br />
<br />
The demo hits Europe on November 9th, which should coincide with the North American PSN update on November 8. We'll confirm that date with Ubisoft in the meanwhile. <strong>Update:</strong> Ubisoft confirms that the demo's also coming to North America next week.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-11-4-2011/">Rayman Origins (11/4/2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-11-4-2011/#4584721"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/alive1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-11-4-2011/#4584722"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/cloude1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-11-4-2011/#4584723"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/machinecity021280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-11-4-2011/#4584724"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/11/machinecity031280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/rayman-origins-demo-due-next-week/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rayman Origins demo due next week</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/rayman-origins-demo-due-next-week/">Rayman Origins demo due next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 13:00:00 EST. Ubisoft's limbless helicopter-head hero is appearing with a little more physical fanfare in Europe. The publisher is wrapping his gorgeous return to 2D, <em>Rayman Origins</em>, in a Collector's Edition for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this November. Even the packaging itself is special.<br />
<br />
The quality of the 50-page art book will likely match the visuals we've seen coming from the UbiArt framework (which integrates high-resolution illustrations and pairs them with a skeletal animation system), and the soundtrack will probably be described as "whimsical," but forget all that. The box itself folds into a cute diorama depicting mischief makers Rayman and Globox.<br />
<br />
Ubisoft has confirmed to Joystiq that this edition of <em>Rayman Origins</em>, currently listed at GBP 54.99 on <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rayman-Origins-Collectors-Xbox-360/dp/B005NXX87Q/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1316902879&amp;sr=1-2">Amazon UK</a>, is only coming to Europe -- soon to be the origin of quite a few imports, we imagine.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/20/rayman-origins-collectors-edition-is-exclusive-to-europe/">Rayman Origins Collector's Edition is exclusive to Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Oct 2011 02:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a>' euphemism of "bubblize" for "murder" is genius. In the above clip, watch Rayman and friends pound, slap, kick, eat and crush their opponents with their bubbly instinct.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/rayman-shows-10-ways-to-bubblize-enemies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rayman shows 10 ways to 'bubblize' enemies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/rayman-shows-10-ways-to-bubblize-enemies/">Rayman shows 10 ways to 'bubblize' enemies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Oct 2011 02:45:00 EST. <br />
This new trailer for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> treats us to a release window for the lovingly animated 2D platformer: November 2011. It also treats us to a sweetly serene moment of diegetic music ... followed immediately by a scene of what appears to be Rayman assaulting an angry neighbor with her own husband's head.<br />
<br />
The included Ubi fact sheet doesn't specify which platforms will see their version of <em>Rayman</em> in November; Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and 3DS seem like safe assumptions ... but probably not PlayStation Vita, since that system <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/report-playstation-vita-coming-to-us-europe-in-early-2012/">won't even be out</a> in North America or Europe by then.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-vita/">Rayman Origins (GamesCom 2011 - Vita)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-vita/#4457973"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/rovitagcbossnoframe-1316204325_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-vita/#4457974"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/rovitagccoldbouncenoframe-1316204326_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-vita/#4457975"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/09/rovitagcjunglesmashnoframe-1316204327_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-vita/#4373127"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rovitagcboss-1313603246_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-vita/#4373128"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rovitagccoldbounce_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-3ds/">Rayman Origins (GamesCom 2011 - 3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-3ds/#4373119"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/ro3dskick_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-3ds/#4373120"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/ro3dspopcorn_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-3ds/#4373121"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/ro3dsrayman_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-xbla-psn/">Rayman Origins (GamesCom 2011 - Xbox 360/PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-xbla-psn/#4373096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rocchdbellyflop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-xbla-psn/#4373097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rocchdgong_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-xbla-psn/#4373098"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rocchdhotslap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-xbla-psn/#4373099"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rohdgccrushedpepper_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-origins-gamescom-2011-xbla-psn/#4373100"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rohdgcfloatingfun_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/18/music-to-our-ears-rayman-origins-coming-this-november/">Music to our ears: Rayman Origins coming this November</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Aug 2011 15:00:00 EST. Ubisoft is coming out strong in support of the PlayStation Vita, because it's a video game system and that's what Ubisoft does. In advance of Sony's Gamescom presser today, the company announced development of six titles for the handheld, including an <em>Asphalt</em> racing game, <em>Assassin's Creed, Dungeon Hunter Alliance </em>(above),<em> <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins">Rayman Origins</a>,</em> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/michael-jackson-the-experience"><em>Michael Jackson: The Experience</em></a>.<br />
<br />
Perhaps most exciting, the PSP launch standout <em>Lumines</em> is returning on PlayStation Vita. Along with the announcement, Ubisoft shared screens of <em>Rayman</em>, <em>Asphalt</em>, and <em>Dungeon Hunter</em>. No dates were provided for any of these, but expect at least a few of them at the system's launch, because, again, that's what Ubisoft does.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ubisoft-playstation-vita/">Ubisoft (PlayStation Vita)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ubisoft-playstation-vita/#4369978"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/aivita1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ubisoft-playstation-vita/#4369979"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/dha01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ubisoft-playstation-vita/#4369980"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/rovitagcboss_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/16/ubisoft-announces-development-of-six-vita-games-including-assas/">Ubisoft announces development of six Vita games, including Assassin's Creed and Lumines</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 13:25:00 EST. Sure, said assassins, rabbids, and future soldiers will arrive in video game form, but there's at least an air of danger in Ubisoft's Gamescom lineup. The French publisher revealed its German cavalry this week, saying that all titles will be available either in hands-on versions or hands-off presentations.<br />
<br />
<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/from-dust">From Dust</a> </em>(released on consoles thus far), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/far-cry-3"><em>Far Cry 3</em></a>, <em>Might &amp; Magic Heroes VI</em>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> will be on site. Ubi will also hold a roundtable discussion titled, "Is Online Gaming Changing How We Create?" and featuring "creative leaders from Ubisoft's online teams. It'll be open to press, Ubisoft partners and the show's trade visitors.<br />
<br />
It's not necessarily bad news for you, Joe Public. The latest, Comic-Con-targeted trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> is toeing a fairly questionable line of truthfulness. Sure, it's probably joking when it says it won an award at E3 for having the "Character With The Biggest Butt," but that's still a lie. That award would obviously go to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/sesame-street-once-upon-a-monster">Cookie Monster</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/rayman-origins-comic-con-trailer-makes-up-a-bunch-of-accolades/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rayman Origins Comic-Con trailer makes up a bunch of accolades</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/22/rayman-origins-comic-con-trailer-makes-up-a-bunch-of-accolades/">Rayman Origins Comic-Con trailer makes up a bunch of accolades</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Jul 2011 03:00:00 EST. Ubisoft has announced its totally non-comic-related (but perhaps comic<em>al</em>) contributions to the July 21-24 <a href="http://www.comic-con.org/cci/index.php">Comic-Con</a> event, including opportunities to play its new games. Booth 4245 in the Exhibit Hall will host playable demos of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/raving-rabbids-alive-and-kicking-for-kinect-on-november-8/">Rabbids: Alive &amp; Kicking</a></em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/just-dance-3"><em>Just Dance 3</em></a>, and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a>. On July 23, Ubisoft will hold an "Assassin's Creed: The Creation of a Universe" panel, featuring a preview of the <em>Assassin's Creed Embers</em> animated short.<br />
<br />
Outside of the Comic-Con venue itself, Ubisoft and "The Nerd Machine" are setting up a "Nerd HQ" in downtown San Francisco, where players will find demos of <em>Rayman Origins</em>. Yes, "Nerd HQ" is somehow not inside Comic-Con.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/play-new-rabbids-rayman-and-just-dance-games-at-comic-con/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Play new Rabbids, Rayman and Just Dance games at Comic-Con</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/play-new-rabbids-rayman-and-just-dance-games-at-comic-con/">Play new Rabbids, Rayman and Just Dance games at Comic-Con</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jul 2011 22:00:00 EST. The UbiArt technology, which is currently being put to use on <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a>, will be as free and open as the space between Rayman's hand and body, if Michel Ancel has his way. Speaking to Develop, he expressed his desire to release the framework as open-source, to benefit other developers keen on making animated 2D games.<br />
<br />
"If you look at the best artists at Disney for example," Ancel told <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/38204/Ancel-wants-UbiArt-tech-to-be-free-for-all">Develop</a>, "they create incredible books and artwork and share their processes - it's interesting because those same people are happy to look at how other artists are developing their style. That whole medium has evolved on the basis of sharing ideas. But in games we lock it all in a black box and keep it to ourselves." Ancel hopes that the tools will inspire small devs: "It is more interesting to have a community and share our content."<br />

When <em>Rayman Origins</em> was first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/rayman-origins-in-development-from-michel-ancel-is-2d-and-beaut/">announced</a> at E3 2010, it was accompanied by samples of other 2D games with varying art styles also made in the UbiArt framework. Even so, this plan hasn't actually been finalized yet. While he believes the technology will be offered freely, Ubisoft executives still have to make the final decision about licensing terms.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/13/ancel-wants-rayman-origins-ubiart-to-be-open-source/">Ancel wants Rayman Origins' UbiArt to be open-source</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Jul 2011 19:30:00 EST. We were just casually browsing Nintendo's E3 press site, like you do, when we happened upon upcoming schedules for 3DS, DS, and Wii. And there's a bunch of stuff on here that we, and probably you, hadn't heard about yet! Like, in case you missed it, the September 11 release date for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/star-fox-64-3d"><em>Star Fox 64 3D</em></a>., and an August 23 date for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/shin-megami-tensei-devil-survivor-overclocked"><em>Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked</em></a>.<br />
<br />
According to this schedule, Ubisoft's got <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/james-noirs-hollywood-crimes"><em>James Noir</em></a> on the way August 30,<em> Imagine Babyz 3D</em> (imagine babies! In 3D!) October 25, a 3DS version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/michael-jackson-the-experience"><em>Michael Jackson: The Experience</em></a> and a 3DS NCIS game the same day, and ... a 3DS version of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman: Origins</em></a> on March 13, 2012!?<br />
<br />
The eShop section of the schedule names some upcoming Game Gear Virtual Console titles from Sega, all scheduled for "Summer." The games include Columns, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Crystal"><em>Dragon Crystal</em></a>, Shinobi, Sonic Drift 2, and <em>Sonic Triple Trouble</em>.<br />
<br />
Check the list out after the break. Keep in mind that some of these listings will undoubtedly change in the future, or might be inaccurate now, as they were reported by Nintendo and not these games' actual publishers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/12/3ds-release-schedule-outs-new-eshop-games-upcoming-dates/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>3DS release schedule outs new eShop games, upcoming dates</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/12/3ds-release-schedule-outs-new-eshop-games-upcoming-dates/">3DS release schedule outs new eShop games, upcoming dates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Jun 2011 13:00:00 EST. The sheer amount of delight generated by the latest <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins"><em>Rayman Origins</em></a> media may be unquantifiable. Seriously, Ubisoft, it's not fair. Try and save some delight for everyone else. View the screens below and watch the trailer after the break, and <em>try</em> not to smile. We submit that it cannot be done.<br />

<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rayman-origins">Rayman Origins</a></em> will explain the evolutionary mystery of a creature's appendages staying in proximity to its torso without actually being attached. Amazon has posted a listing for a Wii version of title, including the convincing box art seen here. Furthermore, a purported GameStop new release list mentions both a Wii <em>and</em> DS version of <em>Rayman Origins</em>. For what it's worth, both GameStop and Amazon specify a November release date.<br />
<br />
While Ubisoft hasn't confirmed anything outside of the 360 and PS3 versions, a port to DS or Wii certainly seems possible, especially given the game's 2D presentation.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/11/retailers-list-rayman-origins-for-wii-ds/">Retailers list Rayman Origins for Wii, DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 May 2011 22:00:00 EST.
