"Temporary layoffs provide us with a time period to keep everyone's employment position open with full benefits. The intention is to reinstate all of the people affected when new projects or funding has been secured."<br /><br />Slant Six has used this temporary layoff method before: Once in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/slant-six-enacts-temporary-layoffs-star-wars-battlefront-onli/">April 2010</a>, coinciding with rumors that <em>Star Wars Battlefront Online</em> was canceled, though all of those employees were rehired. In <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/12/slant-six-hit-with-layoffs-post-raccoon-city/">June 2012</a>, following <em>Operation Raccoon City</em>'s launch, Slant Six offered one fourth of its team a severance package or the temporary layoff route. There were 96 employees at Slant Six at the time, and before today's layoffs, the studio had 60 employees.<br /><br />Under British Columbia law, the laid off employees retain benefits and collect employment insurance for 13 weeks, at which time the firing becomes permanent, unless they are rehired.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/slant-six-games-rolls-out-temporary-layoffs-again/">Slant Six Games rolls out 'temporary' layoffs again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 18:30:00 EST. Shuffling along at half-price are <em>Residents Evils 4-6</em> and <em>Operation Raccoon City, </em>taking <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Resident-Evil-4/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343081c"><em>4</em></a> and <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-5/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802434307d4"><em>5</em></a> to to $9.99 and the <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-6/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430819">other</a> <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Resident-Evil-Operation-Raccoon-City/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024343081d">two</a> to $19.99. Savings-wise, the pick of the bunch is <em><a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/Product/RESIDENT-EVIL-CODE-Veronica-X/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80243430822">Code Veronica</a>, </em>with today's discount digesting 75 percent of its insides and only leaving behind a stump of $4.99.<br /><br />As ever - well, until March 4 - there's a <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Promotion/ultimate-game-sale-0226-0305">groaning mass</a> of other Games on Demand at sale-severed prices, and one of those groaners is <em>Grid</em>. With the second Grid game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/31/grid-2-slides-into-north-america-may-28-may-31-elsewhere/">nearing the finish line</a>, $4.99 is a decent price at which to dive into Codemasters' racer series. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/resident-evil-series-shambles-into-xbox-lives-ultimate-game-sal/">Resident Evil series shambles into Xbox Live's Ultimate Game Sale</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 09:05:00 EST. The company adjusted its sales forecasts for the game to 1.2 million by March 31, down from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/capcom-projections-resident-evil-6-sells-7-million-dmc-does-2/">2 million projected</a> back in May 2012.<br /><br />The figures don't take into account the PC version, released on January 25. Nonetheless, they strongly indicate Ninja Theory's reboot is flagging way behind the last entry in the series, <em>Devil May Cry 4</em>, which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/devil-may-cry-4-sheds-2-million-tears/">shipped 2 million units</a> in its first two weeks at retail.<br /><br />Capcom also updated sales figures for <em>Resident Evil 6 </em>to 4.8 million; the series' latest outbreak had shipped <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/04/resident-evil-6-ships-over-4-5-million-copies-worldwide/">4.5 million</a> by the end of September. and was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/11/capcom-projections-resident-evil-6-sells-7-million-dmc-does-2/">initially projected</a> to reach 7 million sales by March 31. <em>Dragon's Dogma</em> is up to 1.25 million, while <em>Resident Evil: Raccoon City</em> is at a meagre 650,000, including PC sales. Maybe that's why <em>Revelations</em> producer Masachika Kawata feels there've been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/03/a-few-too-many-resident-evil-games-in-past-two-years-producer/">too many RE games of late</a>.<br /><br />Capcom didn't release figures for <em>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em>, released on Wii U in Japan on December 8, 2012, but said the game "became a smash hit." In case you suspect that's just deflective hot air, the action-RPG sold <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/27/the-top-30-games-of-2012-in-japan/">over 600,000 copies by the end of 2012</a>, with the Western launch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/17/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-lands-march-19-with-usb-keyboard-suppo/">still to come in March</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/dmc-devil-may-cry-shipped-1-million-in-january-forecasts-slash/">DmC: Devil May Cry shipped 1 million in January, forecasts slashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 07:15:00 EST. Capcom has announced Slant Six's shooter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> is available for download on Xbox Live alongside cross-over fighter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken">Street Fighter X Tekken</a></em>. Each will set you back $39.99 in the United States.<br /><br /><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em> wasn't in the best shape <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/20/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-review/#review">when we reviewed it</a>, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/17/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-gets-patched/">a patch</a> issued back in June may have alleviated some of our issues. And as far as <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em> goes, that thing's been patched up, down and sideways, and Capcom is promising a "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/12/street-fighter-x-tekken-to-get-hefty-balancing-update-later-th/">hefty update</a>" later on this year. The post didn't elaborate on <em>how</em> exactly the matchmaking system has been changed, just that "matchmaking from invites" has been improved, as have ally and enemy AI behaviors.<br /><br />More fundamental gameplay changes have also been made: Players can now pick up items while dashing and take cover immediately after a dive, for instance, and "various elements of weaponry, including ammo count, knockdown distance, weapon respawn times" have been changed in undisclosed ways. If the temporarily laid off aren't rehired in 13 weeks the unemployment becomes permanent.<br /><br />"We must stress that these are temporary layoffs, which means we are working very hard on new business prospects so we can reinstate every single person affected," a company statement reads. "As an independent and close-knit studio it is a very difficult but necessary business measure due to the current project cycle demands."<br /><br />The developer is currently working on two projects, one of them is a contract with a "major publisher," and the other is its first self-published title, <em>Strata Scavenger</em>, a downloadable post-apocalyptic flight simulation for PC and consoles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/12/slant-six-hit-with-layoffs-post-raccoon-city/">Slant Six hit with layoffs post-Raccoon City</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Jun 2012 11:30:00 EST. The company brought in 82.1 billion yen (just over $1 billion), with its Consumer Online Games division responsible for 53.5 billion yen of that (23.9 percent lower than that division's performance last year).<br /><br />The performance dip can be attributed to the movement of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma"><em>Dragon's Dogma</em></a> out of the fiscal year (and into this month), and to outstanding performance of the company's titles last year. Capcom experienced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/06/capcom-profits-soar-with-help-from-record-aaa-game-sales/">record sales</a> of its big games in fiscal 2011, and fiscal 2012 pales in comparison. <em>Monster Hunter Tri-G</em>, the Japan-exclusive 3DS version, topped the company's sales chart at 1.6 million copies. <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em> also sold well; <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em> "lagged" in comparison to expectations, though both it and ORC broke a million. <br /><br />Capcom didn't share sales data for its other releases, <em>Asura's Wrath, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, </em>and<em> Resident Evil Revelations</em>, merely acknowledging the games as things that came out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/07/capcom-earnings-down-in-fiscal-2012-monster-hunter-tri-g-racco/">Capcom earnings down in fiscal 2012; Monster Hunter Tri-G, Raccoon City, Street Fighter X Tekken sell a million each</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 May 2012 13:30:00 EST. Now, don't go thinkin' this DLC is free or something crazy like that. Nemesis Mode will be available at launch, on March 20, for 320 Microsoft Points ($4).<br /><br />Nemesis Mode has the USS verses the Spec Ops in an eight-man battle with someone able to control a Nemesis. While one team tracks down a control unit, the other can "give the Nemesis orders to destroy the opposition." As with all things "exclusive," we don't know how long it'll take before this multiplayer mode infects other platforms, but we're sure not even Capcom can contain Nemesis.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-nemesis-mode/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (Nemesis Mode)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-nemesis-mode/#4867568"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/reorcmerged1328349729_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-nemesis-mode/#4867569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/reorcmerged1328350448_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-nemesis-mode/#4867570"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/reorcmerged1328432487_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-nemesis-mode/#4867571"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/reorcmerged1328433061_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-nemesis-mode/#4867572"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/reorcmerged1328436890_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/05/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-adds-nemesis-mode-dlc-ex/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City adds 'Nemesis Mode' DLC exclusively for Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Mar 2012 10:30:00 EST. While the Xbox and PlayStation 3 versions of <em>Operation Raccoon City</em> will be available on March 20, PC gamers will have to wait until May 18.<br /><br />The PC version will offer support for Nvidea 3D Vision and will also include "stunning high-resolution visual effects." Beyond that, Capcom promises feature parity with the console versions, including eight-player online multiplayer and four-player co-op.'' These concepts have become the norm, and while most of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Resident-Evil-Operation-Raccoon-City/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</a></em>'s varying multiplayer modes feel like they're trying to offer something that caters to the typical multiplayer crowd, I found myself constantly surprised and excited by an element completely out of my control: the NPCs.<br /><br />In each of <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em>'s game modes, players have to deal with a cadre of AI-controlled enemies as well as a team of opposing players. Generally, standard zombies aren't a threat to the leather-fetish Umbrella troops or their camo-loving Spec Ops counterpart; however, a stable of familiar <em>Resident Evil</em> enemies increase the lethality of each match. The agile and sharp-clawed Hunters gleefully rip everything apart; Lickers stalk their prey, striking ferociously from the darkness; and powerful Tyrants can emerge at any time, and I suggest you run when you see them.<br /><br />Entering these enemies into the equation and priorities rapidly change on the fly, offering an experience unlike most team-based competitive multiplayer modes out there. "Should I keep shooting the enemy in front of me or should we jointly focus on the lumbering Tyrant who just dropped down into the middle of our firefight?" You'll thank us later. Still here? All right, but we warned you:<br /><br />Capcom UK Marketing head Dave Turner said Resident Evil wants to tap into the Call of Duty market with its coming titles, noting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Operation Raccoon City</em></a> in particular: "The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil," Turner said.<br /><br />Resident Evil has attracted more players since incorporating more action, with <em>Resident Evil 5</em> leading the charge, Turner said. "We've seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented -- <em>Resident Evil 5 </em>is the biggest seller in the series," he said. "So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully."<br /><br />Turner was speaking mostly with <em>Operation Raccoon City </em>in mind, it sounds like, although the trailer for <em>Resident Evil 6</em> doesn't make it look like the riddle-ridden games of yore.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/20/written-in-the-s-t-a-r-s-capcom-dreams-of-cod-fans-playing-res/">Written in the S.T.A.R.S.: Capcom dreams of CoD fans playing Resident Evil</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 21:00:00 EST. After seeing two RCPD officers get chased through the streets, vulnerable and injured in previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> vids, we finally see them meet their ultimate end in today's super long addition.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> This post originally stated that <em>Resident Evil 4</em> star Leon S. Kennedy was killed during the clip, but apparently our eyesight is just really bad today. As it turns out, it's a RCPD officer -- not Leon -- taking a bullet to the head at 2:41. Please accept our apologies!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/watch-leon-kennedys-demise-in-the-latest-re-operation-raccoon/">Watch one RCPD member's demise in the latest RE: Operation Raccoon City trailer [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Jan 2012 14:00:00 EST. When you're in a city overrun by zombies, the most welcome sight (that isn't attached the top of a gun barrel, at least) is a friendly face. In this spirit, Capcom has just unveiled <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</a></em>'s Heroes Mode in which two teams of beloved franchise stalwarts, like <span lang="EN-GB">Leon. S Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Hunk and Ada Wong, will square off.<br />
<br />
Of course, since they'll be pitted both against each other and zombies and bio-organic weapons, "square off" doesn't really cut it. So get your first look at this trapezoid-off in the video above.</span><br />

At Capcom's Gamer's Day event last month, following a presentation on <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em>, producer Mike Jones made some statements that this writer took as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/01/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-beta-coming-early-next-ye/">intent to launch a public beta</a> early next year. "Obviously there are some camera issues and stuff," he said of the build we just watched his colleague play through, "but we're nearing a pretty solid beta, which will be out early next year."<br />
<br />
Today, Capcom posted <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2011/11/03/quick_note_on_resident_evil_operation_raccoon_city">this statement</a> on its Capcom-Unity site dismissing the notion. So, as it stands right now, there will not be a public demo or beta for <em>Operation Raccoon City</em>. We here at Joystiq apologize for any confusion and strive to offer you only the facts. And the occasional Photoshop day, of course.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/capcom-no-plans-for-an-operation-raccoon-city-beta/">Capcom: No plans for an Operation Raccoon City beta</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 16:30:00 EST. <strong>Update: </strong>Today, Capcom announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/03/capcom-no-plans-for-an-operation-raccoon-city-beta/">there will not be a demo or public beta</a> for <em>Operation Raccoon City</em>, prior to its launch. We misinterpreted a statement made by Mike Jones and apologize for the error. You can find the original post in full below.<br />
<br />
<strong>Original post: </strong>Capcom's admittedly going out on a limb with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City</em></a>, its re-interpretation/re-telling of the events that transpired in <em>Resident Evil 2</em> and <em>3. </em>At just about every trade show this year, Capcom has brought out multiplayer builds of the squad-based shooter to get feedback and, at Capcom's Gamers Day 2011 event last week, producer Mike Jones revealed the public at large will get a stab at the game before its launch.<br />
<br />
A public demo is planned for "early next year," Jones said, though he wouldn't offer exact details on the nature of the demo or when we should expect to be able to download it. That should give you plenty of time to come to grips with your new position as "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/you-wont-cheer-for-umbrella-in-resident-evil-operation-raccoon/">the bad guy</a>."<br />

Grab your vial of T-Virus antidote and a swath of bullets, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> is set to launch just five short months from now on March 20, 2012. Unfortunately for PC owners, the wait will be a bit longer, as the game will initially launch on just Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the PC version launching at an unnamed date after that.<br />
<br />
Beyond revealing the launch date, Capcom also ran down the contents of the game's "Special Edition," which contains a "Steelbook with exclusive art," an "Umbrella Security Service" patch, a "stylized foil sleeve" (<em>what?</em>), a "Spec Ops Field Unit" patch, and eight bonus weapons. And hey, if you pre-order at GameStop, BestBuy, or Amazon, you'll snag yourself a bonus outfit for each of the game's playable characters. Maybe it'll make <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/14/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-gives-bertha-to-new-traile/">Bertha</a> look less creepy, eh?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/29/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-chasing-down-leon-on-march/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City chasing down Leon on March 20, 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Oct 2011 12:30:00 EST. Capcom has never been one to shy away from aggressively utilizing its core intellectual properties, however iteration often translates to evolution, which can be interpreted as abandonment by the minds of die-hard fans. But, that might not be such a bad thing.<br />
<br />
"We think that certainly some people's expectations will be violated, but that's, in our minds, a good thing," said producer Masachika Kawata, speaking on the Resident Evil series during <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6505/two_tendrils_of_resident_evils_.php?page=1">an interview with Gamasutra</a>. "It will hopefully get people to play something that they weren't expecting." <br />
<br />
Resident Evil has arguably seen more drastic paradigm shifts than any other Capcom franchise, with the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Resident-Evil-Operation-Raccoon-City"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> fully embracing the shooter seeds planted by Resident Evils <em>4</em> and <em>5</em>. Kawata views the situation as one of diversity rather than exclusion, however, implying that the Resident Evil franchise has expanded to accommodate many different genres underneath its IP umbrella, including shooters. <br />
<br />
Of course, survival horror is still an integral part of Resident Evil's brand image, and Kawata's own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Resident-Evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a> is said to be "core-fan focused" in a way that makes it similar to Capcom zombie romps of yore. Still, every relationship needs a little spark now and again: "I'm thinking that if we would have brought out all these Resident Evil titles, and they were all focused on survival horror, absolutely I think people would be really sick of Resident Evil."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/09/capcom-wants-to-violate-your-expectations-but-in-a-good-way/">Capcom wants to violate your expectations, but in a good way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 09 Oct 2011 20:30:00 EST. It's not the best quality footage, but Capcom's done us all a solid and uploaded 32 minutes of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a> gameplay, direct from its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sdcc-2011">Comic-Con</a> booth. Honestly, we feel pretty bad for the zombies. These Umbrella operatives are strapped to the nines, and with giant Hunters running around, it seems it just isn't safe for a zombie to wander the streets at night any more.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/watch-32-minutes-of-resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city/">Watch 32 minutes of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. In <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em>, you play as an elite team of Umbrella tasked with cleaning up the mess in Raccoon City during the events of <em>Resident Evil 2</em>. It's 1998 and even though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-preview-left-2-die/">you'll be playing as these corporate guns for hire</a>, you won't find any endearing qualities about these individuals. They're not here to save the day, they're here to save Umbrella's ass by killing all survivors and erasing all evidence of Umbrella's involvement.<br />

<em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em> certainly isn't <em>Left 4 Dead</em>, but I wouldn't blame you for confusing the two. <em>ORC</em> is, after all, a four player co-op zombie shooter, featuring a variety of zombie types that largely resemble what both <em>Left 4 Dead</em> games featured before it (a large tank-like zombie, a zombie who scurries on the ceiling and reels you in with his tongue, etc.).<br />
<br />
In fact, other than a third-person perspective and a <em>Resident Evil</em> landmark setting, I was getting some serious d&eacute;ja vu playing <em>ORC</em>. Except for one crucial point: it wasn't quite as fun as <em>Left 4 Dead</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-e3-2011/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (E3 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-e3-2011/#4203547"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/reracooncitye3licker_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-e3-2011/#4203548"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/reracooncitye3screenshotbeltwayusspecops_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-e3-2011/#4203549"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/reracooncitye3screenshotbloodfrenzy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-e3-2011/#4203550"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/reracooncitye3screenshotfoureyesvector_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-e3-2011/#4203551"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/reracooncitye3screenshotinfection_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-preview-left-2-die/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City preview: Left 2 Die</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/08/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-preview-left-2-die/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City preview: Left 2 Die</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Jun 2011 18:00:00 EST. If there's one thing we can say about this E3 trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city#continued"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a>, it's that it holds off on the zombie for as long as possible. You know that trip you were going to take to Japan this summer? Well, you'll be able to do more than sample the local cuisine and take in the sights -- you're desperately needed to help quell the zombie threat. Well, the <em>paper</em> zombie threat, at least.<br />
<br />
Capcom, in collaboration with the EA Shooting Bar (an airsoft gun shooting range not affiliated with the rival publisher), will redecorate the inside of the range to look like the S.T.A.R.S. offices from <span>May 20 through June 19, <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/12/resident_evil_ea/">Andriasang</a> reports</span>. It's all to celebrate the 15th anniversary of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=resident+evil&amp;sort=date"><em>Resident Evil</em></a>.<br />
<br />
After a full day of shooting paper zombie targets, patrons will be able to enjoy themed food and drinks, watch a 15th anniversary special video and purchase <em>Resident Evil </em>items. The bar is located in the <span>Musashino area</span> of Tokyo.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/13/capcom-taking-over-japanese-shooting-gallery-for-resident-evil-a/">Capcom taking over Japanese shooting gallery for Resident Evil anniversary</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 May 2011 07:30:00 EST. Capcom isn't really known for its PC titles -- sure, ports here and there populate the platform, but it's primarily a console company. In a missive over on <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/sven/blog/2011/05/10/pc_happenings">Capcom-Unity</a>, corporate officer and senior veep, Christian Svensson, details how he and a select few others within Capcom are working to change that. "As we continue to expand our businesses in Russia, China, Korea and Brazil, the PC becomes increasingly important as it is the primary platform in those territories," he says.<br />
<br />
Svensson points to the "historically" small PC market in Japan as a hurdle, which means the Japanese developers aren't very familiar and comfortable with the platform -- but online experiences are becoming quite prevalent; a viable means of revenue and justification for allotting resources for PC development. The success of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/monster-hunter-frontier-online"><em>Monster Hunter Frontier Online</em></a> is certainly helping Capcom understand the importance of the platform. "PC gaming's profile is growing at Capcom," Svensson assures.<br />
<br />
Several games are slated to come to the PC this year, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-street-fighter-iv-arcade-edition/"><em>Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2-off-the-record"><em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a>. Svensson says the Japanese COO and other execs "increasingly request a PC version" when discussing what to green light if no PC version is planned during the first stages of a product. "So in short, while we're still not yet where I'd like for us to be, the future is getting better for Capcom fans who are PC gamers all over the world."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/12/capcom-talks-stronger-focus-on-pc-platform/">Capcom talks stronger focus on PC platform</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 May 2011 20:30:00 EST. In a document about its "Strategies and Plans" for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, Capcom provided estimates for how many copies of its upcoming games it expects to sell. Or "plans" to sell, although those plans aren't entirely up to Capcom.<br />
<br />
It expects the biggest seller of the fiscal year to be <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a>, which it estimates will sell 2.5 million units. Following that is <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/street-fighter-x-tekken"><em>Street Fighter x Tekken</em></a> at 2 million -- a game whose presence suggests a release before next April, even though the date is still listed as "TBA."<br />

The open-world action game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma"><em>Dragon's Dogma</em></a> is expected to sell around a million and a half, the first step in an initiative mentioned elsewhere in the document: to "develop <em>Dragon's Dogma</em> and <em>Asura's Wrath</em> into new franchises." And <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dead-rising-2-off-the-record"><em>Dead Rising 2: Off the Record</em></a>, Capcom's modern-day answer to <em>Final Fight Guy</em>, is expected to sell around 800,000 worldwide.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/10/capcom-estimates-sales-for-operation-raccoon-city-sf-x-tekken/">Capcom estimates sales for Operation Raccoon City, SF x Tekken, and other upcoming games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 May 2011 13:02:00 EST. The evil Umbrella team gets downright <em>G.I. Joe</em> in the latest trailer for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a>. Each member of the evil corporation's zombie apocalypse cleaning crew even has a cool nickname. There's Spectre the sniper, the invisible Vector, the heavy weapons guy Beltway and, uh, Bertha. Honestly, had dear old Mom named us Bertha, we'd probably have turned evil too.<br />
<br />
It looks like the Umbrella team will have more than zombies to deal with, as a government Spec Ops team has also descended upon the undead-ravaged Raccoon City. Throw in Leon S. Kennedy and an uncontrollable Tyrant and it looks like the U-Team will have its hands full.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/14/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-gives-bertha-to-new-traile/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City gives Bertha to new trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/14/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-gives-bertha-to-new-traile/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City gives Bertha to new trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Apr 2011 14:40:00 EST. That's right, folks, a roundup of previews. We're gonna be straight with you and outright say it -- we burn too easily! Our skin is delicate <em>and</em> important to us, and as such, we couldn't make it to Capcom's Miami-based press event last week to play, among other things, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</em></a>. But these folks all did and they ... well, they sorta like it:<br />

Yes, that does mean you can move and shoot at the same time, something even the action-heavy <em>RE5</em> didn't support."</li>

		<a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-04-13-resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-preview">Eurogamer</a><strong>:</strong> "Capcom's idea was to create a dark, gritty shooter with smooth controls and a focus on multiplayer. It's not about fear any more ... The result is a fast-paced co-operative and competitive shooter ... It's impossible to overstate how different <em>REORC</em> feels compared to other <em>Resident Evil</em> games, even <em>Resi 5</em>. That is to say it feels like a third-person shooter, a <em>SOCOM</em> game. Your targeting reticule darts about the screen like a bee disturbed from its hive. Your character covers ground quickly with a simple click of the left thumb stick. Turning, the simple act of changing direction, feels responsive. From cover you can blind fire, lob grenades or pop in and out for deadly accurate shooting. And, shock horror, you can move and shoot."</li>

While we've seen prequels (<em>Resident Evil Zero</em>) before, this time around players can actually change the storylines of previous games, even killing some of the series' biggest icons like Leon Kennedy. That immediately places Raccoon City in a bit of an 'alternate timeline' territory, though the game's producer told us new details about the Resident Evil world would be revealed. "</li>

At present, it doesn't feel like much more than a reskinned <em>SOCOM</em> with zombies. It doesn't look like the Umbrella Security Service team got much training before embarking on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city"><em>Operation Raccoon City</em></a>. Taking a zombie hostage? Really? That's how you plan to negotiate with Mr. Leon S. Kennedy? In the words of Wesker himself, nobody could have ever predicted "it" would spread so fast. We assume he's referring to the <em>Resident Evil</em> franchise, which will see five (<em>five</em>) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/resident-evil-4-code-veronica-hd-downloads/">different</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-the-mercenaries-3d">releases</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations">this</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city">year</a>. See footage of them all in the <em>Resident Evil</em> 15th anniversary trailer after the break.<br />
<br />
One thing to note: Both <em>Code: Veronica X HD</em> and <em>Resident Evil 4 HD</em> are promoted with the Xbox Live "Games on Demand" logo beneath their titles (as opposed to the Xbox Live Arcade logo). It's possible that Capcom is opting to distribute the titles under the Games on Demand platform in North America (where they will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/24/resident-evil-4-code-veronica-hd-downloads/">download-only</a>) in order to bypass the 2GB size limit placed on XBLA titles.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/albert-wesker-presents-the-resident-evil-15th-anniversary-trail/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Albert Wesker presents: The Resident Evil 15th anniversary trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/05/albert-wesker-presents-the-resident-evil-15th-anniversary-trail/">Albert Wesker presents: The Resident Evil 15th anniversary trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 16:30:00 EST. Print media enthusiasts are already poring over exclusive details of Capcom's upcoming squad-based affair, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</a>,</em> in PlayStation: The Official Magazine and Official Xbox Magazine, while the digerati have had to settle for ... well, getting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city/">all the details early online anyways</a>.<br />
<br />
And now, the internet wins again as Capcom's released a teaser trailer for <em>RE:ORC</em>. Some napkin math - 29.97 frames per second and 70 seconds of video - shows we're looking at about 2098 images in the below trailer. If each one of those is worth a thousand words, things aren't looking so good in Printlandia. Another place things aren't looking so good: Raccoon City.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-teaser-trailer-leaves-leon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City teaser trailer leaves Leon bemused</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/30/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city-teaser-trailer-leaves-leon/">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City teaser trailer leaves Leon bemused</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Mar 2011 11:55:00 EST. Capcom has officially confirmed that you'll be able to join Umbrella Corp. in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city">Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City</a>, </em>coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this winter.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/resident-evil-operation-raccoon-city/">OXM story</a> had most of the details already: The Umbrella Corp. sends a team (you and up to three friends) to eradicate any evidence of its involvement with the events of <em>Resident Evil 2 </em>in a squad-based shooter developed by Capcom and Vancouver's Slant 6 (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/socom-confrontation"><em>SOCOM: Confrontation</em></a>). There will also be competitive multiplayer, pitting Umbrella against the U.S. Government (which wants to uncover what Umbrella's hiding) -- and both groups must also contend with undead hordes.<br />
<br />
Heartbreakingly, it doesn't sound like zombies will be playable, forcing those who like being dead-behind-the-eyes flesh eaters to stick with <em>Left 4 Dead 2</em> or the new iCarly game.<br />
<br />
