Well, free as in it doesn't cost any cold, hard cash, but it does involve payment of a more modern kind: social network sharing.

Anyone can download the theme song after tweeting the link or sharing it on Facebook through the service Pay with a Tweet. Or, you can wait until Friday, June 1, to download the entire soundtrack from Bandcamp, from artist Sonic Picnic.
Get the Awesomenauts theme song for free now, soundtrack next week originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 27 May 2012 13:32:00 EST. Now that the complete soundtrack has been released, though, we're feeling a little more confident about hitting the asphalt goofy-style once more.

The complete track list can be found after the break, and we're glad to say that "Superman" by Goldfinger and "When Worlds Collide" by Powerman 5000 are both present and accounted for. The new replacement tracks include stylistically appropriate songs such as "Flyentology" by hip-hop artist El-P (featuring Trent Reznor). El-P once featured on the Del the Funky Homosapien track "Offspring," and Del's song "If You Must" was on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 soundtrack. If we're playing by Six Degrees of Separation rules, we can call that a winner.
Continue reading Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD soundtrack revealed, Superman returns with Powerman 5000

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD soundtrack revealed, Superman returns with Powerman 5000 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 24 May 2012 21:15:00 EST. But have you heard it? Without all the pictures, and the talking? If you'd like to experience the soundtrack to the movie (by Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP composer Jim Guthrie) in isolation, you can now pre-order it from Bandcamp and iTunes, due on May 15.

If you'd like something tangible with your audible goods, you can opt for the double LP vinyl release, or pick up a t-shirt with your digital or vinyl album. Both the LP and the t-shirt feature new artwork by designer Cory Schmitz, whose work you may be wearing right now! And if you have yet to see the movie, you can find out here if a screening is coming up near you.
Indie Game: The Movie: The Soundtrack: The Pre-order offers originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 03 May 2012 13:15:00 EST. You can purchase that track on iTunes on May 15th, along with full soundtrack on May 23.

The soundtrack comes from Health - the band, not the state of being that comes from eating right and exercising. Health is an LA-based collective formed in 2006. "Health have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game's score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album," says Rockstar's soundtrack supervisor, Ivan Pavlovich. "By using a band instead of a traditional composer, we've created a soundtrack that sounds completely unique."

Max Payne 3 launches on May 15 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Max Payne 3 soundtrack drops on May 23 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 May 2012 23:59:00 EST. The XBLA version hit Europe April 11.

If you want to listen to the game's soundtrack (featuring tracks by Castlevania's Michiru Yamane!) even when not in a pitched battle with a creepy nurse, it's now available from iTunes and CDBaby for $10. Publisher Autumn Games says it will be available on other digital music stores "in the coming days," if you have discriminating taste about where you like to procure your MP3s.
Continue reading Skullgirls comes to Euro PSN May 2, original soundtrack available online

Skullgirls comes to Euro PSN May 2, original soundtrack available online originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 10:15:00 EST. It's fitting that he should be tapped for the soundtrack to Konami's next horror-themed game, Silent Hill: Book of Memories.

Licht is doing a live show in LA this June, where he'll belt out a few samples from the Book of Memories soundtrack. He'll be joined by vocalist Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, who also is featured on the Silent Hill: Book of Memories soundtrack. Tickets are on sale now for the June 10 show, which takes place at the Largo at the Coronot Theatre.

[Thanks, XLM. Its haunting vocals, 1800s gospel-esque melody lines and character-relevant lyrics are an exceptional work on their own, as you can clearly tell from the video above featuring Bastion composer Darren Korb and vocalist Ashley Barrett.

Now you too can play the part of a critically acclaimed singer/songwriter, assuming you have the ability to command a guitar and/or piano in coordination with sheet music and/or tabulature. Charts for all four songs of the Bastion soundtrack are now available for free from Supergiant's store, which we're certain will vastly improve the accuracy of YouTube cover videos the world over. It'll feature electronic music prominently, including some of the more well-known artists out there right now like Skrillex and The Crystal Method. One such project that never saw the light of day was a Final Fantasy franchise entry titled "Fortress," which we got a peek at not long after we learned of Grin's closure. And now we're able to hear some music sampled from the game as well, as former music director Erik Thunberg dropped one such track on his portfolio website.

So, uh, you may wanna line up these shots of the game with the music playing in another tab, to try and recreate the feeling of the Western-born Final Fantasy game that never was. Not only is it Skrillex, but it's our favorite song from his first EP: "Scatta," which features sick verses by Foreign Beggars and a drop so heavy that it may cause a few avalanches of its own. A new version of Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" also returns for old time's sake, remixed by soundtrack compatriots Pretty Lights, as well as cuts from DJ Shadow and a Lateef the Truthspeaker joint featuring Hiero-hero Del the Funky Homosapien.
Continue reading SSX soundtrack surprisingly doesn't feature The Avalanches

SSX soundtrack surprisingly doesn't feature The Avalanches originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 08 Feb 2012 17:30:00 EST. The regular price will be $10 for the game and $6 for the (17 song) soundtrack, but both items will be discounted 20 percent for a limited time after launch.

"Lots of stuff is new - the main cool feature is that your Grimp (the little character you control) now has the ability to warp back to his last resting position!" Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert said of added features in the Steam version. "It uses a little bit of your energy but if you're careful you no longer have to worry about missing an important jump - fall too far, just hit space and warp back."

"Also, rather than having to collect all the Spectra (these are the objects that let you grow your main garden) repeatedly we now save your progress in each garden, so you can just start from the last Spectra you grabbed when you go back in."

Hurray for Eden taking away its buzzkill elements! Remember Brent Kennedy, the guy who created those wonderful piano arrangements of the Super Meat Boy soundtrack early last year? Well, it looks like we weren't the only people impressed by his work: Super Meat Boy's composer, Danny Baranowsky, has been working with Kennedy for nearly a year, and the two have recently released the fruits of their labors on Baranowsky's Bandcamp profile.

Super Meat Boy! - Choice Piano Cuts is a $4.99 (or more, if you're feeling generous) collection of 10 tracks from the SMB soundtrack, composed by Baranowsky and arranged/performed by Kennedy. The purchase also includes a PDF of the Kennedy's sheet music for the entire album, which in itself is well worth the price of admission for the musically inclined out there.

The soundtrack's original arrangements are great and everything, don't get us wrong, but there's a deeper level to Baranowsky's skill as a composer that's exceptionally brought to life by Kennedy's mastery of the ivory keys. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen.
Choice Piano Cuts, a Super Meat Boy piano tribute album originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 04 Jan 2012 03:00:00 EST. In order to properly get in the mood for an Italian assassin vs. evil animated sword monster fight -- to set the stage of history, so to speak -- you'll need the right music. You can start your preparations for a more Soulcalibur 5-friendly home by pre-ordering the four-disc (!) Soulcalibur 5 Original Soundtrack Limited Edition from Eminence Music Production.

In addition to 56 tracks from composers Junichi Nakatsuru, Hiroki Kikuta, Tomoki Miyoshi, Andrew Aversa, Cris Velasco, and Inon Zur, you get a DVD that goes behind the scenes of the soundtrack's creation, and "character cards" of the new fighters.

If you're on the fence about whether to spend ¥4,980 ($64) on Soul Calibur music, you can hear a few samples at Eminence's site. The soundtrack will ship on January 31.
Pre-order a deluxe Soulcalibur 5 soundtrack originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Dec 2011 09:15:00 EST.

Following the announcement of Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, we were filled with nostalgia. We instantly put on some "Superman" and did some Google image searches for Warehouse. We were pumped.

But then, a concern popped into our brain: would our beloved soundtracks from Tony Hawk Pro Skater and its sequel return? Is that a realistic expectation? According to the One of Swords blog, "probably not."

"Right now, everything is unknown, and there's a lot more work to do before things are final," says Activision's Dan Amrich. He posits a few different scenarios, where the developers could chase licensing on these original tracks or simply license brand-new ones. If you're looking for all of your old favorites, you may end up disappointed.
Epic Games and Chair Entertainment have released Infinity Blade: The Soundtrack ahead of Infinity Blade 2's December 1 launch. Despite containing a finite number of songs, the soundtrack features orchestral scoring from both Infinity Blades 1 and 2, bringing the track listing to a rather sizable 25 jams.

Composed by Josh Aker (Undertow, Shadow Complex) the collection of chronologically recursive music is available on iTunes, Amazon (both regular and On Demand) and Zune for $9.99. You can also purchase each song individually for 99¢ if that's your style, but we can't figure out why anyone would be inclined to do so. It's not like high-fantasy soundtracks usually have singles, after all.
Infinity Blade: The Soundtrack now available originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 20 Nov 2011 17:30:00 EST. What if $40 just isn't enough to show your love to your favorite FPS? You're in luck then: Sumthing Else Music Works is release the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary soundtrack, which features re-orchestrated Halo tunes, as a two-disc album.

The package is $14.9 and gets you two CDs of music, originally created by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori and remade for 2011. There's also a limited edition green vinyl record for $24.99, which has fewer tracks but gets you an MP3 album of the music to download as well. If you really want to show you're the "Lord of the Rings," maybe buy both?
Continue reading Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary gets double disc soundtrack release

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary gets double disc soundtrack release originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 13 Nov 2011 20:00:00 EST. You know, the problem with life is there aren't enough suspended train cars to climb and big burly dudes to fist-fight in a climactic struggle to survive aboard a giant cargo plane. Nope, life is PTA meetings, laundry and lots and lots of bills. But there's hope!

On PSN right now, you can download all three Uncharted soundtracks -- the first two games' score will set you back $5.99, though we suggest you wait it out until next week when both will be offered in a value bundle for $9.99. The Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception soundtrack is priced at $9.99 on PSN. If physical media is more your speed, you'll have to wait until November 15 to snag the Uncharted 3 soundtrack from Best Buy, Fry's, or Barnes & Noble. If you're an iTunes fan, you can grab it from there right now.

Waiting for a game is probably the worst thing in the world. But if you're waiting for Retro City Rampage, you can at least ease that burden a bit by checking out select tracks from the game's soundtrack right now, free of charge.

This Soundcloud page has a few of the game's tracks for streaming or download, as well as some remixes that were the product of a recent contest. We're not sure how long it'll be available, but said page says to look for the full soundtrack in January or February 2012. We've contacted Brian Provinciano, the game's creator, who told us that these tracks will be available indefinitely. The full soundtrack is being printed right now, but you'll have to (obviously) pay money for it.
Partial Retro City Rampage soundtrack available online, for free originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 05 Nov 2011 05:00:00 EST. We appreciate all the work that went into the sounds of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, as seen in the developer diary posted above. It seems a bit excessive though -- the only sounds and music we need are ones to accompany us breaking into every house, and stealing every pair of pants.

Regardless, if you want the powerful hymns of a barbarian choir to make your working day that much more enthralling, you can pre-order the four-disc Skyrim soundtrack through DirectSong right now, for $29.99. That's a lot to pay for a soundtrack, but just imagine how great you'll feel as you fold your laundry as ninety dudes shout "DOVAHKIIN! DOVAHKIIN! DOVAHKIIIIIIN!" at you.
Watch the sounds of Skyrim get made, pre-order the four-disc soundtrack originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 03 Nov 2011 15:00:00 EST. The transhumanism revolution sounds like electric raindrops falling across the desolate graveyard of our flesh-and-bone forefathers, backlit by the rumble of two giant clockwork cogs rotating slowly against one another. Or it's an elongated mix of Daft Punk's Tron and Tyler Bates' 300 soundtracks -- you can decide for yourself what the sound of cyberkinetics truly is when the Deus Ex: Human Revolution original soundtrack drops on Nov. 15 in physical and digital forms.

Composer Michael McCann wrote almost 200 pieces for Human Revolution, which have been arranged into a 25-song tracklist representing the "arc of the game's story," McCann said. See below for the official list, listen to a taste of the game's music style above, and prepare your fleshy human eardrums for some serious cyborg tunage in November.
Continue reading Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack to install in your aural orifices Nov. 15

Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack to install in your aural orifices Nov. 15 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 28 Oct 2011 14:55:00 EST. The Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack is currently listed on Amazon with a November 15 release date and $12.95 price. Publisher Square Enix informs us that official details on other retailers providing the soundtrack should be available later this week.

The soundtrack was previously available in the "Augmented Edition" of the game, with a slight hiccup on the PS3 version. Put down your recently sharpened number two pencil and that crisp piece of parchment, there's no need for strongly worded letters. Unlike The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Link's final adventure on Nintendo Wii will have an entirely orchestrated soundtrack. Nintendo of America confirmed as much to me this morning during a brief play session with the upcoming sky-bound Hyrulian romp, Skyward Sword.

It's not as though the news is entirely unexpected, however -- Nintendo production head Shigeru Miyamoto hinted at the possibility earlier this year during E3, when he told attendees of his developer roundtable, "I don't think we could do what we did with Mario Galaxy 2 and not try to match that with Zelda." And hey, considering that Nintendo brought out a full orchestra just for its E3 presser, we're glad that the company would deem its big upcoming Wii title worthy as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has fully orchestrated soundtrack originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 03 Oct 2011 17:32:00 EST. Look, we don't like giving ultimatums and we know you don't like hearing them, but we can't be friends anymore if you don't download The Gunstringer's phenomenal soundtrack. Aren't you into indie music? Don't you like feeling joy?

Straight up, Matt Cheney's spaghetti-samurai score is a bone-chilling, tonally perfect masterclass in atmospheric storytelling through composition, and you'd be doing yourself a criminally negligent disservice by skipping it. So much so, that we couldn't stand to be around you, knowing what a hollow shell your life had become.

Grasshopper Manufacture announced the very welcome news that it will release a soundtrack CD containing Akira Yamaoka's full score on Shadows of the Damned. The pre-order soundtrack was nice, but incomplete; this disc will have all 21 tracks, including "Shadows of the Damned," performed with The Damned.

In addition, GHM will release a guide book called "Kurayami Magazine," named after an earlier iteration of the game. It features a long interview with Suda 51 and original character designs.

Both items are listed on the Japanese GHM store website, with the soundtrack available tomorrow and the book on September 9. Neither has been posted on the American store yet, and we're asking-slash-begging Grasshopper for more information.

Update: GHM is selling the soundtrack on its international site now, limited to 1,000 copies. The first 300 will be signed by Akira Yamaoka!
Shadows of the Damned soundtrack coming to Japan [update: available now internationally] originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 02 Sep 2011 01:00:00 EST. Have you ever bought the soundtrack to a Flash game before? You might want to now. The "Double Fine Action Arcade Soundtrack" contains 40 tracks from the developer's Flash games, including Tasha's Game, My Game About Me, and Host Master and the Conquest of Humor., composed by Bert Chang and Razmig Mavlian. The $9.99 download also throws in several bonus tracks from the two Double Fine musicians.

If you'd like to hear the soundtrack before buying, you can preview the soundtrack on iTunes, or you can, you know, just go play those Flash games with your speakers on.
You'll need a MotionPlus or Wii Remote Plus to play The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. If you don't already have one, don't worry: Nintendo will offer the game in a $69.99 bundle, which includes the limited-edition gold Wii Remote Plus first seen at E3. If you don't want the fancy (and exclusive) Wiimote, the game will still be available as a standalone, for $49.99.

The initial print run of both versions, out November 20, will include a CD of performances from the upcoming Zelda 25th anniversary concert. So don't make too much noise when you go to that concert, or you'll ruin our CD. Thanks!
Continue reading $70 Zelda: Skyward Sword bundle includes gold Wii Remote Plus

$70 Zelda: Skyward Sword bundle includes gold Wii Remote Plus originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 29 Aug 2011 12:20:00 EST. When the zombie apocalypse strikes, it will be of utmost importance you set the appropriate mood, and thankfully composer Pawel Blaszczak knows exactly how to do that. Blaszczak wrote the spine-tingling soundtrack to Dead Island, and he's now sharing a few tracks so we can prep our survival kits accordingly.

You'll want a melee weapon -- baseball bat, crowbar or frying pan -- for the slow walk down a deserted hallway at the 20-second mark of "Surrounded by Zombies," and a well-stocked crossbow for the panicked rhythms in "Zombie Rising." The "Main Theme" will play when you awake from a coma, exit the shower or begin walking to work to find the world overrun with the undead. Because that's how this stuff works, even on islands.
Continue reading Set the mood with these three songs from Dead Island

Set the mood with these three songs from Dead Island originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 13 Aug 2011 22:30:00 EST. If you're a human being with ears and a heart, we're going to assume you loved Sword and Sworcery EP just as much as you loved Sword and Sworcery LP - The Ballad of the Space Babies, its ethereal, lovely soundtrack. Know what? We're going to go out on a limb and also assume that you love Lil Wayne -- because, really, who doesn't -- and therefore will double-love his new track, "She Will," which samples a selection from the iOS gem's score.

We've contacted Superbrothers to find out the terms behind this auspicious partnership. You can listen to a brief chunk of the track after the jump, provided you're in a place that doesn't mind NSFW language. Solatorobo: Red The Hunter, now the best shot at a light-hearted, island-based treasure hunting adventure (with Mega Man Legends 3 gone), will come with a nice bonus if you purchase one of the first-run copies: a soundtrack. In a distinctly Atlus-like move, XSEED is bundling a 24-track soundtrack CD with the initial shipment of the DS game.

XSEED also shared some new images of the beautiful floating-island locations in CyberConnect2's game, along with a couple of in-game screenshots. What lovely places to instruct a walking robot to pick up and throw every single available piece of scenery.

Gallery: Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (Locations and Characters)

Continue reading Solatorobo ships with soundtrack

Solatorobo ships with soundtrack originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 19:00:00 EST. Xbox Live Arcade's Bastion has gotten its launch date on the PC. Bastion will be available as a $14.99 download on Steam August 16, one day before From Dust debuts on the platform. You're getting two Summer of Arcade goodies in one week!

Additionally, we'd like to point out that the Bastion soundtrack is currently available as a $10 download, replete with a new narration intro and bonus track, "The Pantheon (Ain't Gonna Catch You)." If you're looking for an actual physical disc, maybe to clutch against your bosom tightly as you fall asleep at night -- hey, no judgment here -- then you can shell out $15. The actual CD comes in a custom wallet, featuring original art by Jen Zee and (optionally) signed by composer Darren Korb.

If you're really distrustful of your mail man (or don't want to wait until September when the disc ships), you can snag the album at PAX Prime in Seattle at the end of the month. Before you go diving into those beautiful tunes, take some of our advice: the songs are definitely best heard first in-game.
Bastion coming to PC on August 16, soundtrack available right now originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 13:00:00 EST. While the rest of the world has to wait indefinitely for the Wii Rhythm Heaven (it has a TBA release date in the West), it's out in Japan as of last month. And now that Japanese version is being joined by an enormous soundtrack collection ... that will almost certainly never be released outside of Japan.

The ¥4,800 ($62) soundtrack comprises an impressive four discs and 177 tracks, including all the music from Minna no Rhythm Tengoku ("Everybody's Rhythm Heaven," the Japanese title for the game) and the two previous games. It'll be out -- in Japan -- on August 24.
Monstrous Rhythm Heaven soundtrack announced for Japan originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 03 Aug 2011 01:50:00 EST. Atlus customarily includes soundtrack discs with the first printing of its games, in a program it calls "Atlus Spoils." But for The King of Fighters XIII, Atlus has gone beyond its normal initiative, bundling a four-disc soundtrack with pre-orders from "participating retailers" including Amazon and GameStop.

The soundtrack is a collection of music from throughout the whole King of Fighters series. Dare we hope for "Allegory of the Wind," the slow, pensive song by the blue flame-wielding Iori Yagami, from the KOF '97 Arranged Soundtrack? Whatever's on there, there will be hours of it.
Pre-order The King of Fighters XIII, get The King of Soundtracks originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 19:00:00 EST.
