Speaking with Polygon, managing director Jade Raymond said the studio, involved with Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Rainbow Six: Patriots, has plans set for five further games in total.

"We have two big collaborations coming that we're not talking about, on two of the biggest franchises at Ubisoft. We also have two new IP," Raymond told Polygon, noting that the fifth project is a Splinter Cell game.

Raymond's comments follow on from the intentions she laid out in 2010 to eventually have five triple-A projects going on at Ubisoft Toronto at the same time, with a staff of some 800 people involved. In other words, Ubi Toronto's plans for world domination are beginning to surface, and we should call the authorities immediately.
Ubisoft Toronto working with Ubi Montreal on another Assassin's Creed originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 28 Mar 2013 18:40:00 EST. We thought Far Cry 3 had "excellent, explicit design" and it taught us the dangers of trusting in goats, which is probably the most important lesson we've ever gleaned from a game.
'Ultimate' Far Cry, Splinter Cell bundles spotted on UK retail site originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 13:30:00 EST. The script also has yet to be finalized - it's coming from Eric Warren Singer, who wrote 2009 thriller The International.

If it all goes through, Hardy will join Michael Fassbender, who is taking lead on an Assassin's Creed film with New Regency, in Ubisoft's forthcoming film lineup.

Meanwhile, the next game in the Splinter Cell series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, is slated to launch in Spring 2013.
Tom Hardy straps on the goggles for Splinter Cell movie originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 14 Nov 2012 19:00:00 EST. It's also important to note that deals like this don't always pan out (we're looking at you, Uncharted and BioShock films). And even if the film rights were optioned by a film studio, there's then no guarantee that a script would be written or a film made. What we're trying to say is: take all of this with a Bonneville Salt Flats-sized grain of ... well, you know.

[Pictured: Splinter Cell: Blacklist]
Report: Ubisoft in talks with Warner Bros., Paramount on Splinter Cell movie deal originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 15 Jun 2012 14:30:00 EST. Ubisoft wants to repeat that structure in its new Toronto studio, according to the Financial Post. The French company is adding over 600 employees to the current staff of 210 over the next 10 years, which means an investment of over $500 million in that time.

That has big ramifications, not only for Ubisoft's future as a publisher and developer, but for Toronto's Wallace Avenue neighborhood as well (where these employees will live, work, and spend all of this money). As for the studio itself, it's currently at work on five upcoming Ubisoft titles, including the next Splinter Cell. As more and more is invested in the operation there, that list will probably grow.
Ubisoft planning to expand Toronto studio to 800 employees within 10 years originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 May 2012 23:00:00 EST. Well, if you fall within that very niche category of people, a current promotion over at Amazon may be relevant to your needs.

Assassin's Creed, a few Splinter Cells and Far Cry 2 are just a few of the titles you can nab for half a sawbuck -- without that pesky Ubisoft DRM. And, as astute headline reader types will tell you, if you buy one, you'll get one free of charge. We hope you like HD remakes, because a pair of high-profile titles are part of this week's PSN update. Alongside the debut of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, PS3 users can snag HD-ified versions of the first three Splinter Cell games, ala carte: Splinter Cell HD, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory HD and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow HD.

Doublesix's follow-up to Burn Zombie Burn!, All Zombies Must Die, also debuts on PSN this week. If this were a police blog, we'd say we've got modus operandi for Doublesix. Yup, cop jokes. Deal with it.

PSOne Classic Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is also available for download this week, along with MotorStorm Apocalypse and Carnival Island. Hit up the source link below for the full list of this week's content over on the PlayStation Blog.
PSN Tuesday: Stranger's Wrath HD, Splinter Cell HD, All Zombies Must Die originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 27 Dec 2011 23:00:00 EST. Look, we're not prejudiced, we just think people who play shooters with inverted aim turned on have backwards brains. Backwards -- broken -- brains. But regardless of our feelings on the control setting, Ubisoft took things a step further with this week's release of the Splinter Cell HD Trilogy on PS3, entirely removing the option.

That's not to say it's the most egregious omission, as both Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory are sadly missing their multiplayer modes, but it's a pretty major one no less. We've contacted Ubisoft to see if there's any chance that the option will get patched in at some point, but have yet to hear back.

The high-definition espionage saga should be slipping onto shelves in Blu-ray guise, and in a downloadable bundle on the PlayStation Store. There's no fiscal benefit to the digital version, as Ubisoft says they both cost $39.99.

All three games in Splinter Cell Trilogy support stereoscopic 3D and improved identification with series protagonist Sam Fisher, who must also wear uncomfortable visual gadgetry on his head. The original game, its sequel, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory all support native 1080p rendering (though 720p output must be disabled in the XMB for Chaos Theory).

According to the tech-savvy scrutinizers at Digital Foundry, the level of care shown in Splinter Cell's HD update is about on par with the economical work in the Prince of Persia HD trilogy. Its relative condemnation identifies the trio as "very basic conversions" of the PC games with rudimentary interface adjustments. The first two games reportedly perform in "an average manner," multiplayer has been cut, and textures are "disappointing." The standout title, DF concludes, is Chaos Theory, which "manages to acquit itself fairly well six years after its initial release."
Splinter Cell Trilogy infiltrates shelves and PSN on Sept. 27 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 15:30:00 EST. Whether your interests lie in carving up ancient Greece's cryptozoological creatures, or creeping your way through government installations, this week's PSN update aims to please. There's the God of War HD Collection: Volume II (the two titles from which can also be bought piecemeal), the Splinter Cell Trilogy HD and, for good measure, Fast Draw Showdown, because, hey, why not?
If you're looking to spend your long weekend in a quiet, relaxing way, you could do worse than to check out NightSky, the meditative rolling-ball platformer by Knytt creator Nifflas. And now's a good day for it, because Steam has reduced the price to five bucks through 1PM tomorrow.
If you're in the mood for less tranquility and more Tom Clancity, the ongoing Ubisoft sale continues today, with 66% discounts on pretty much every Tom Clancy game ever, including various Splinter Cells, Ghost Recons, Rainbow Sixes, and HAWX ... es.
Steam discounts NightSky, Tom Clancy games originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 29 May 2011 22:30:00 EST. Perhaps all that "playing" of your favorite Ubisoft games was getting tiresome? The French game publisher's film arm, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, told Variety this week that it's working to adapt three of Ubisoft's biggest properties -- Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon -- into "3D features," confirming speculative plans that appeared in a consumer survey last month. UMP head Jean-Julien Baronnet explained that his division "has been working with the games' producers and Ubisoft's marketing team to identify the DNA of each game and come up with storylines that are consistent." He also noted that the group's plans have garnered plenty of interest "from US studios and screenwriters."

Further, senior VP of international marketing and distribution Jean de Rivieres promises a script for at least one of the projects "by the end of the year." He and two other UMP execs will be taking a trip to Los Angeles next month in order to broker deals with studios and agents, Rivieres added.

In addition to the trio of feature projects, the studio is reportedly developing a 3D, CGI animated series based on the Rabbids property and named after the Raving Rabbids game series. It's said to comprise 78 episodes, at seven minutes apiece, and negotiations are apparently underway to distribute the series in France and the US.
Despite being a franchise that's all about sneaking, it comes as no surprise that the first three Splinter Cell games are getting HD facelifts for PS3 -- after all, the Prince of Persia trilogy already has (on PSN, at least). Ubisoft has announced today that both "remastered" series will hit retail on Blu-ray disc March 22 for $40 apiece.

Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD will include the original Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, all three offering 3D modes for compatible televisions. The Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD disc contains Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. While the games run at a higher resolution, they're identical to their original releases underneath the HD sheen, meaning any bugs that plagued them are present, too.

The Splinter Cell collection will also be released on March 22 on PSN for the same $40 price tag, along with a digital Prince of Persia trilogy "bundle" for the same price. Currently, the three PoP classics are going for $15 a pop as separate downloads on the PlayStation Store.
Continue reading Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD trilogies coming March 22 on PS3 Blu-ray disc

Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD trilogies coming March 22 on PS3 Blu-ray disc originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 31 Jan 2011 15:31:00 EST. PS3 owners may not have had a chance to play Splinter Cell Conviction, but in 2011, they'll have too much Sam Fisher to deal with. Ubisoft has confirmed the Splinter Cell Trilogy to IGN and, as previously rumored, it will include HD updates of the original Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Although additional details weren't offered, it's likely the Splinter Cell Trilogy will be very similar to Ubisoft's other HD compilation: the Prince of Persia Trilogy. But we wonder, will it have 3D support? Will it be released on Blu-ray or a la carte via the PlayStation Network like PoP HD? We'll let you know if can pry anything else out of Ubisoft.
Splinter Cell Trilogy sneaking onto PS3, in HD (of course) originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 20 Dec 2010 19:00:00 EST. High-definition updates of last generation's Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia games have popped up again, this time on a UK retail site. Eurogamer points to listings on Zavvi.com of the two Ubisoft trilogies, bundled on PlayStation 3 for £30 MSRP. Splinter Cell has a late November date attached, while PoP is listed for March 2011. Last month, the two HD collections emerged on Amazon France, both with an early November release date.

The PS3 already has the God of War Collection out there, with Sly Cooper and ICO / Shadow of the Colossus bundles on the way. We've contacted Ubisoft for official word on the Splinter Cell and PoP bundle matter, but should that fail we have an asset on standby to extract the information ... through any means necessary.
Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell HD collections listed by UK retail site originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 21 Sep 2010 11:30:00 EST. Ubisoft Toronto Managing Director Jade Raymond hopes to eventually have five triple-A projects going on at the studio. Speaking with Develop, she reiterated that the site is currently working on two projects, one of them the next Splinter Cell, and that the Toronto studio will eventually have five "major" projects in about ten years, when it beefs its staff roster up to 800.

Even with such a massive staff, it sounds unlikely all the development for any one game will take place in Toronto. Raymond expressed that triple-A development currently requires several Ubisoft studios working together, explaining that "once [a] team reaches over 200 people - even if they're in the same studio - you need complex management methods to make sure everything is held together; the feature development, the communication, and everything else." A year since its creation (thanks to hundreds of millions in tax breaks), Ubisoft Toronto is shaping up to be a beast -- whether local newspaper columnists like it or not.
Ubisoft Toronto aiming to develop five big games at once originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Aug 2010 12:30:00 EST. According to Amazon France listings spotted by The Sixth Axis, both Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia franchises could be getting the Blu-ray treatment in the coming months. Unfortunately, other than a 39.95 Euro ($54) price tag and a November 2 release date, neither listing provides any real detail on what the trilogies might contain.

If Ubisoft is planning to re-release these games as compilations, it's possible that they might feature updated graphics, much like last year's God of War Collection. With a Sly Cooper collection on the way -- and rumors of a Team Ico Collection refusing to go away -- we'd hardly be surprised to see third-party publishers giving their own classics another spin.
Rumor: Ubisoft releasing Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia trilogies on PS3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 08 Aug 2010 15:30:00 EST. The "official" Ubisoft online store, UBIShop, is featuring the Collector's Edition of Splinter Cell: Conviction on sale for 50 percent off. That means Mr. Fisher's face-breaking-(via urinal)-adventure can infiltrate your Xbox 360 for $35 -- for an unspecified limited time.

The Collector's Edition is bundled with (that possibly defective) USB drive packed with downloadable assets, art book, decals, comic book and other random doohickeys. We're following up with Ubisoft to find up when it'll put two in the back of this sale's skull.
Would you also like the ability to be sneaky about playing it? Gameloft has just released an iPhone version of the stealth action game, so you could be playing Splinter Cell all day, with the people around you thinking you're just texting a lot.

Conviction on iPhone attempts to bring essentially the same visual style and gameplay to the handheld platform, with a similar third-person perspective, cover, and even Sam's mark-and-execute abilities. According to TouchArcade's review, problems with controls and AI keep it from quite achieving that goal -- you can see the guard AI in (in)action in the trailer after the break.
Have you been denying yourself time with Splinter Cell: Conviction's multiplayer Deniable Ops because what came on the disc was getting a little stale? Good news: Ubisoft is happy to spice up your life as a super agent with four new maps and added Achievements totaling 250 Gamerscore points.

The DLC will set you back 800 ($10), which is far less than you'd spend to actually travel to the pack's San Francisco, Portland (ME, not OR), Salt Lake City and New Orleans settings -- or on an attorney to explain why you killed all those people in cold blood.
It sounds like the perfect group to develop a new Splinter Cell game. Ubisoft announced that the new Toronto studio will produce the next game in the series, and will work on a second, unannounced title with Ubisoft Montreal.

Splinter Cell: Conviction producer Alexandre Parizeau has joined the Toronto team for this new Splinter Cell project. Managing director Jade Raymond told Gamasutra that many Montreal staffers -- "all the core team," as she described it -- relocated to the new Toronto studio. She said that, because of significant investments from both Ubisoft and the Ontario government, Ubisoft Toronto can start right away on large-scale games. "It's a really nice position to be in," Raymond said. "Instead of starting a studio and working on small projects, Nintendo DS or portables, we're starting out of the gate with triple-A only."

The second game in Toronto's slate involves a small team coordinating with Montreal, led by A2M alum Lesley Phord-Toy. She told Gamasutra that the second team "gives us the chance to focus not only on bringing the right people in at the beginning, but putting them in the right place either to train or for training. Ubisoft took the first Splinter Cell: Conviction paid DLC, dubbed the "Insurgency Pack," out of hiding this morning, sticking it with a May 27 release date and a $10 (800) price tag for Xbox 360 and PC. Aside from 250 new Gamerscore points for you 'Cheevo seekers, the content includes four new maps playable across all of the Deniable Ops game modes.

The DLC announcement says that the Insurgency Pack will span four unique new settings: "from the docks of San Francisco to a New Orleans cemetery, a prison in Portland to a hidden research complex in Salt Lake City." Presumably, this paid content won't disturb Ubisoft's plans to release free weekly content. Right, Ubi?
We know how it is. You've had your eyes on the Splinter Cell Conviction Xbox 360 Elite bundle for weeks now. "I want it!," you say, "But it's so expensive." You're in luck, because it looks like Sam Fisher did some 'negotiating' with Dell and got the company to knock a full $75 off the price, making it a cool $324.99. It's worth noting that Dell seems to have the bundle details incorrect. The bundle includes two wireless controllers, not one, and a 250GB hard drive as opposed to a 120GB model. It also does not include an HDMI cable, an accessory Microsoft stopped bundling with Elites some time ago.

If $325 is still a bit too steep, you can also grab the Xbox 360 Elite Spring bundle, which includes Halo 3: ODST, Forza Motorsport 3, one wireless controller and a 120GB hard drive for just $269 ($30 off the usual price). Act now and you'll still have time to get in on the Halo: Reach beta. Lest you haven't heard, it has jetpacks.
Not satisfied with offering its games through a variety of retail options worldwide, Ubisoft today launched UBIShop (pronounced "you-be-shop"), a direct-to-consumer avenue that offers boxed and digital copies of the French publisher's games. (The online store would appear to be unaffiliated with closely-named ubishops.ca, the web home of Bishop's University in Quebec, Canada.)

To jump-start the store's launch, Ubisoft is offering the "Elite Echelon bundle," a collection of the original Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory, Double Agent and Conviction, for $76 on PC, along with a whole mess of PC titles as part of a buy one, get one free (old game) deal. Currently, however, the prices for some of Ubi's newer PC titles are well above comparable retailer prices.

In the press announcement for UBIShop, the publisher described the destination as "an online meeting point for Ubisoft fans around the world." After our initial visit, we're not convinced there's much more here than another, potentially more expensive place to purchase Ubisoft games. That said, Beyond Good & Evil is free with purchase of several games -- not a bad freebie, Ubi.
Ubisoft launches UBIShop online store (no relation to Bishop's Univ.) originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 06 May 2010 13:33:00 EST. Clint Hocking, longtime creative director at Ubisoft on the Splinter Cell games and lead designer on FarCry 2, has announced on his blog that he has resigned from Ubisoft. The separation appears to be genial -- Hocking waxes a little poetic about his nearly-a-decade with the company, and then goes on to say that he has found the courage to "bid farewell to those tragically comforting habits" and move forward to "walk on hot coals and sleep on a bed of nails." We'll assume he's speaking metaphorically there, and guess that Hocking is moving off to start his own company.

Still, as Hocking points out, it's a big move away from the company where he started out, originally hired after "fiddling around more or less constantly ... with the Unreal Level Editor" and having "sent in a resume on a lark" to a job posting. Hocking started work on the first Splinter Cell, and says he's "been very lucky to say the least" in his career so far. We'll let you know when we hear what he's up to next.
It's Thursday, meaning your Splinter Cell: Conviction gun cabinet has magically produced a new something. Last week it was the Proximity Mine, and today it's the FAMAS G2, a new assault rifle designed to engage far-off targets (that you're too lazy to sneak up and around on).

In a recent interview with Dutch gaming news site Control Online (that is to say, the site itself is Dutch -- it doesn't exclusively cover the booming Dutch video game industry), Ubisoft's Tom Clancy brand manager Michel Verheijdt explained "at this moment I'm working on two Tom Clancy games which have just gone in development." He remained tight lipped about the identities of the two franchises, warning that if he exposes any more info, he'll "have to send Sam Fisher after you."

Fortunately, Joystiq was able to get the scoop on these two games, and you'll never believe what they are. For the first time in ... hold on a second. Someone's at the door. Hello? Who are you, and -- hey, why are you grabbing our neck? This doesn't seem very safe, begoggled, gruff-voiced stranger.
Amazon has a pair of sweet deals for those in the market for an Xbox 360 console. Both the Final Fantasy XIII Elite bundle and Splinter Cell: Conviction Elite bundle are $40 off, down to a much more palatable $359.99. That's almost like getting the bundled game for free -- not to mention the value of a bigger, beefier 250gb hard drive and an extra controller.
Though public opinion is almost unanimously against Ubisoft's current DRM solution, which forces players to have a constant internet connection in order to play the PC versions of the company's games, Splinter Cell: Conviction creative director Max Béland recently voiced his support for the anti-piracy protocols. "We consider that protecting our PC games is vital to our business and will allow us to continue investing in the development of creative and innovative games on the PC platform," Béland explained in an interview with VG247.

To Béland's credit, Ubisoft's new DRM scheme -- which Conviction will implement when its PC iteration hits store shelves April 27 -- has proven very effective at "protecting" the company's PC games. Seriously, we hear they're hard to get into. Like, really hard. Really, really hard.
Therefore, rather than hiding the bonuses inside a stealthy card-shaped disk, Ubisoft is taking the direct approach, allowing you to just download them yourself. Which means that those of you who bought the more expensive version saved $10 for the trouble of having to wait just a few days.

Best of all, you don't even have to have the collector's edition to take part in this offer! Just click here. Now you're downloading screenshots, concept art, making-of video, and more! You're a collector!
Getting tired of looking at the same old, boring Avatar? Of course you are, so why not dress him or her up in some fancy new duds? You're in luck, because two new batches of Avatar goodies have landed on Xbox Live Marketplace. First up, there's a new Splinter Cell: Conviction collection and yes, before you ask, Sam's trademark goggles are up for grabs. On the other side of the proverbial track is a new collection of Forza Motorsport 3 goodies. While there are plenty of items for sale, the only one you really need to know about is the RC car. You've read our even-tempered, thought-provoking analysis of Sam Fisher's latest, slightly less stealthy exploits in Splinter Cell: Conviction, but say -- hypothetically -- you want to know what some of our game-adjudicating peers thought about the game. Overlooking your blatant infidelity, we'd be happy to provide you with a wide smattering of opinions. Let's just not make a habit of this, okay?

Sam Fisher is a frugal guy. He doesn't like to waste anything. Why waste two whole bullets to execute a hapless goon when you only need one, right? In that same spirit, tipsters have informed us that Buy.com's eBay store has for Splinter Cell: Conviction priced to move at only $41.99. Oh, and that includes free shipping. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a deal worthy of Sam "Mr. Frugal" Fisher any day of the week.
Through an initiative we've dubbed "Project Trend Buck," starting now and following on a weekly basis, a new downloadable item will be released via Conviction's "Extras" menu for free each week for an unspecified time period.

This week, it's the MP7A1 Machine Pistol (pictured above). Future content will include more weapons, character skins and even a new Deniable Ops multiplayer map. Additionally, through the built-in Uplay service, players can unlock tokens to spend on more free content for use in the game.
Original: If you've played beyond the first mission of Splinter Cell: Conviction while connected to Xbox Live, you've likely run into a freezing glitch. A few minutes into the single-player campaign's second mission, the game just locks up -- but there's hope!
Thanks to a pretty comprehensive thread on the Ubisoft Forums, a temporary workaround has been discovered, which requires clearing the system hard drive cache and logging out of Xbox Live. "I assure you everyone is hard at work to resolve the issue," posted an Ubisoft technical support representative, who could not confirm when players can expect an official patch.
As enlightened parents of the 10s, we make an attempt to expose our many children to violence at every opportunity as part of a revolutionary new parenting style we call "Not Paying Very Close Attention." Not all parents are as liberated as us though, so it's nice to know that their children too can enjoy this week's big release Splinter Cell: Conviction with IGN's Splinter Cell Activity Book.
We're sure your mild-mannered children will just adore the "Night Vision Crossword Puzzle" and "SpyLibs" -- just warn them not to get so absorbed in them that they accidentally bump into our kids. With Splinter Cell: Conviction set to hit shelves on Tuesday, you might be tempted to do your best Sam Fisher impression and sneak into your favorite retailer early. Before you get arrested for B&E, we suggest you direct your attention to GameStop, where you can just walk right in at midnight on Monday, April 12 (which, yes, is technically 12:00am Tuesday). That's right, GameStop locations across the US will be hosting midnight launch events for the game, saving you the hassle of legal proceedings and a potential prison sentence.

You can find out if your local GameStop is participating by visiting this page. If you plan on going, you might as well pre-order and bag yourself a virtual shotgun while you're at it. And, seriously, stop breaking into places. It's not cool.
Midnight openings for Splinter Cell: Conviction at GameStop originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 10 Apr 2010 07:00:00 EST.
click to revenge-size

Did you order the collector's edition of Splinter Cell: Conviction yet? A Ubisoft representative informed us late tonight that the official price of the CE will be dropping $10, from $79.99 to $69.99. The reasoning behind the price drop is the possibility of faulty USB drives, included with the package. The publisher recently noticed that some of the USB drives didn't work, and is offering a compensatory price drop before the game's official release on April 13th.

None of the other content included in the CE has been affected, such as the comic book, art book, and bonus DLC. However, the bonus content included on the USB drive may be inaccessible in some copies. The bonuses, which include art and a behind the scenes video, will be distributed in a new manner, to be announced on the Ubisoft site after the game's launch. The Ubisoft representative wanted to emphasize that the game is not affected in any way. Good thing, too -- we don't think we could handle yet another delay.

Considering most retailers do not require full payment of pre-orders, the new price should go into effect when you pick up your copy. Make sure you contact your retailer before the game's launch if your final price doesn't reflect this $10 discount.
Splinter Cell: Conviction CE drops $10 in price due to faulty USB drives originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 23:00:00 EST.
