<br />
Square Enix game director Tetsuya Nomura has elaborated on the choice to bring <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-15"><em>Final Fantasy 15</em></a> - previously known as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-versus-xiii"><em>Final Fantasy Versus 13</em></a> - to next-generation consoles instead of PS3, the original platform when the game was first announced in 2006.<br />
<br />
In an interview with Famitsu (via <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/19/4444292/tetsuya-nomura-and-why-final-fantasy-versus-13-became-final-fantasy-15">Polygon</a>), Nomura said Square Enix moved the game to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@xbox-one">Xbox One</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@ps4">PS4</a> because "the lifespan of the current generation of consoles was starting to pose a problem" to Square Enix. "We had originally thought about making this announcement last year, but due to assorted reasons that got delayed. This meant that the lifespan of the current generation of consoles was starting to pose a problem to us. If we were a year later, other companies will have more time to research the next generation, and releasing the game against their products on the older generation could have caused us to look inferior when people inevitably compared us."<br />
<br />
Keeping <em>Final Fantasy 15</em> on the current generation posed too many concerns to Square Enix - concerns that the final game wouldn't match what the company set out to do. "With current-gen systems, we couldn't fully express what we wanted to do in this project," he said. "There were more and more things that we would've had to change the form of. However, the assumption was that we'd go ahead with a current-gen release, so went through a trial-and-error process to do as much as we could. So we built an alpha version about a year ago, and the company response was 'If you remained bound to the current generation, will it will be the product you envisioned?' They suggested shifting fully to next-gen, and that was the spark that led to the move."<br />
<br />
As for a PC port, Nomura says it largely "depends on the demand" - if enough people want it, then Square Enix may pursue it. In late March, Square Enix <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-weak-sales-tomb-raider-hitman-absolution/">cited "weak sales"</a> of big console titles to explain its massive restructuring, which saw the dismissal of now-former President Yoichi Wada. Games such as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/hitman-absolution">Hitman: Absolution</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-2013"><em>Tomb Raider</em></a> were slated to reach over three million units in sales in fiscal 2013, arguably considered successful to other publishers.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Eidos Montreal's reboot of the long-running Thief series reportedly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/report-thief-reboot-suffered-multiple-setbacks/">suffered multiple setbacks</a> during its lengthy development cycle. When asked if he feels pressure to ship a critically-acclaimed game in light of the "disappointing" sales of other top-tier Square Enix games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/thief-2014"><em>Thief</em></a> Producer Stefan Roy told Joystiq at E3 that the developer "cannot compromise with this one. We reinvented this franchise, I think we have a single shot."<br />
<br />
"We cannot say, 'oh sorry, we missed, so we are going to try again.' No, it doesn't work that way," he added. "So we cannot compromise, we must really give a good product, we must work closely with the marketing to make sure that the messaging around the game is really clear."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/">Thief (E3 2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960175"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10893thief-e3-2013online061113ss01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960176"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10894thief-e3-2013online061113ss02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960177"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10895thief-e3-2013online061113ss03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960178"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10896thief-e3-2013online061113ss04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/thief-e3-2013/#5960179"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10897thief-e3-2013online061113ss05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/thief-producer-we-have-a-single-shot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Thief producer: 'We have a single shot'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/thief-producer-we-have-a-single-shot/">Thief producer: 'We have a single shot'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Jun 2013 08:00:00 EST. No development process has been as interesting to watch than the multi-game pile-up known as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Final-Fantasy-XIII/">Final Fantasy 13</a></em>. It's not that these RPGs have been of poor quality, <em>per se</em>; they just represent the totality of Square Enix's resource mismanagement during the first HD generation of consoles. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii/">Lightning Returns</a></em> wasn't the only <em>Final Fantasy 13</em>-related product on the show floor during E3 2013, as Square unveiled the long-awaited <em>Versus 13</em> under an entirely new (though slightly predictable) name: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-15">Final Fantasy 15</a></em>.<br />
<br />
This rebranding - combined with the <em>Final Fantasy 13</em> name getting second billing to its lead character - provides some compelling evidence that the developer might be a little ashamed of that "lucky" number these days.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-6-6/">Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (E3 2013)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-6-6/#5939167"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10773afix_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-6-6/#5939168"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10774bfix_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-6-6/#5939169"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10775dfix_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-6-6/#5939170"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10776efix_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-6-6/#5939171"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/06/10777ffix_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-13-hosts-a-party-of-one/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 hosts a party of one</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/17/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-13-hosts-a-party-of-one/">Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 hosts a party of one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Jun 2013 17:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut</em></a> will launch on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC/Mac later this year, Square Enix announced in a press release. The version was initially announced for Wii U in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut-announced-for-wii-u-c/">March</a>, and Eidos Montreal said the <em>Director's Cut</em> improvements <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/02/deus-ex-wii-u-improvements-not-planned-for-other-platforms/">were not planned</a> for other platforms as of April.<br />

While featured heavily in yesterday's Sony E3 keynote, both <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kingdom-hearts-3"><em>Kingdom Hearts 3</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/final-fantasy-ps4/"><em>Final Fantasy 15</em></a> are also coming to Xbox One as well as PS4. Shinji Hashimoto, producer at Square Enix, announced the news this morning at a Square Enix event in Los Angeles (via Siliconera).<br />
<br />
<em>Kingdom Hearts 3</em> is said to feature a more mature Sora, the Keyblade-wielding protagonist of the series. <em>Final Fantasy 15</em> - previously known as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Final-Fantasy-Versus-XIII/"><em>Final Fantasy Versus 13</em></a> - will use DirectX 11, making it easier to develop for both Xbox One and PS4 since both consoles are built on x86 architecture.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/kingdom-hearts-3-final-fantasy-15-coming-to-xbox-one/">Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy 15 coming to Xbox One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Jun 2013 13:00:00 EST. Sony announced <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/kingdom-hearts-3">Kingdom Hearts 3</a> </em>at its E3 press conference as the latest sequel in the long-running Square Enix/Disney series. The company showed off a short trailer, which traced the history of the <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> series, and then revealed some gameplay footage from the title.<br />
<br />
The game will arrive on the PlayStation 4, but no date for release was given yet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/kingdom-hearts-3-coming-to-the-playstation-4/">Kingdom Hearts 3 announced, coming to the PlayStation 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Jun 2013 22:19:00 EST. Speaking to <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/07/nosgoth-in-active-development-at-square-not-a-traditional-legacy-of-kain-title/">VG247</a>, Square Enix community manager George Kelion confirmed that a game set in the same universe as Crystal Dynamics' Legacy of Kain series is under active development by an unnamed studio.<br />
<br />
"Nosgoth exists and is in active development, but is not a traditional Legacy of Kain action-adventure game," Kelion said. "Nosgoth is set in the same universe as previous LoK games, but on a different branch to the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series. The community should not be thinking of Nosgoth in terms of a single-player experience."<br />
<br />
Kelion added: "Nosgoth is not being developed by Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics are not working on a Legacy of Kain game."<br />
<br />
References to the titles "Nosgoth" and "War for Nosgoth" were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/27/legacy-of-kain-revival-suggested-by-amd-drivers/">discovered</a> in the driver files for an AMD Crossfire patch last month. Earlier this year, Square Enix <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/10/square-enix-host-registers-wolfenstein-legacy-of-kain-domains/">registered</a> the domain "WarForNosgoth.com," though the site itself does not yet exist.<br />
<br />
"This isn't something we'd normally do," Kelion explained, regarding the decision to confirm the game's existence, "but we wanted to just give folks a bit more context for the direction, rather than just batten down the hatches."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/07/nosgoth-is-a-multiplayer-game-not-developed-by-crystal-dynami/">'Nosgoth' is a multiplayer game, not developed by Crystal Dynamics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Jun 2013 15:30:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex</em></a> is, by nature, a complicated game. You can start by simply moving around a level: There's cover to move in and out of, and stealth movement requires good timing and precision. Then, there's all of the abilities you have, from using various gadgets and weapons to choosing your bio-implants and playing the hacking mini-games. That's a lot of buttons. In making <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-the-fall"><em>Deus Ex: The Fall</em></a> for iOS devices, Square Enix Mobile was given the task of putting all those functions into a device that has only one button.<br />
<br />
In that respect, the most exciting news about this game is that it works. For the most part, that is. <em>Thief</em> has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/report-thief-reboot-suffered-multiple-setbacks/">reportedly had a troubled development</a>. Don't take this live-action E3 trailer - after five years of development - to be a sign of issues. Let's hope we see some real gameplay at E3 next week, since the game is supposed to launch next year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/07/thief-e3-live-action-trailer/">Thief forsakes in-engine for live action E3 trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Jun 2013 10:00:00 EST. <br />
A new E3 trailer reveals Square Enix is pushing back <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii/"><em>Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII</em></a> to February 11, 2014 in North America, and three days later on February 14 in Europe. Square Enix was planning a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/18/lightning-returns-carrying-the-adventure-solo-as-final-fantasy/">fall 2013 arrival</a> for the third entry in the Final Fantasy XIII line.<br />
<br />
Perhaps today's news is paving the way for a next-gen launch. For now, Lightning's return remains confirmed only for Xbox 360 and PS3.<br />
<br />
As for the trailer itself, it reveals another return. That <em>is</em> Snow Villers, who's sporting a very different look, but very much still looking for Lightning's sister Serah. FYI, the new city on show is called Yusnaan - any locale with a giant cactuar effigy is alright in our book.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong><a href="http://store.jp.square-enix.com/detail/SE-E0110">Square Enix</a> (via <a href="http://www.novacrystallis.com/2013/06/lightning-returns-dated-for-japan-lightning-ultimate-box-announced/">Nova Crystallis</a>) also unveiled the <em>LR:FFXIII</em> Ultimate Box, which it's bringing to Japan alongside the game on November 21, 2013. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-the-fall">Deus Ex: The Fall</a></em>, a story driven action-RPG, has been announced for mobile and tablet devices. The game is a continuation of the novel <em>Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect</em>. The game is priced at $6.99/&pound;4.99/5.99&euro;, with the first installment planned this summer.<br />
<br />
"Players can expect exploration, action, hacking, stealth, social enhancers, player choice and consequence - the full Deus Ex experience," said Jean-Fran&ccedil;ois Dugas, executive game director at Eidos-Montreal. Eidos-Montreal didn't actually develop the game, but it did provide input to developers at the Square Enix Mobile division in Europe.<br />
<br />
General Manager of Square Enix Mobile Antony Douglas added,"Smart devices are central to Square Enix's platform strategy and we approach it with the same attention as our boxed and digital releases. <em>Deus Ex: The Fall</em> is going to be testament to our commitment in delivering high quality entertainment on mobile and tablet devices."<br />
<br />
That statement is in-line with Square Enix's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/27/square-enixs-three-initiatives-to-reform-its-aaa-business/">three initiatives to reform its AAA business</a>.<br />

As a lifelong follower of Square Enix - through both good times and bad - <em>Parasite Eve</em> stands as the first of its US-released games that left me feeling pangs of disappointment. <em>Parasite Eve</em> deviates wildly from the prescribed JRPG format, and even though its battle system introduced elements the developer would expand upon in the future, Square's take on Resident Evil features one playable character involved in a story that barely squeaks past the 10-hour mark.<br />
<br />
To some, <em>Parasite Eve</em>'s focus on streamlining Square's expected RPG design can't be seen as anything but sacrilege, and you can count me in with those who initially felt burned after blowing through the game over the course of a weekend. But it should be noted that Square created this new brand of "cinematic RPG" (as they would call it) to draw in an audience larger than the hardcore JRPG stalwarts who had supported them up to that point. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Final-Fantasy-VII/">Final Fantasy VII</a></em> might have sold based on its impressive CGI-laden advertisements, but it did so at the cost of alienating players unprepared for menu-driven gameplay.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/03/parasite-eve-and-the-rpg-road-less-traveled/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Parasite Eve and the RPG road less traveled</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/03/parasite-eve-and-the-rpg-road-less-traveled/">Parasite Eve and the RPG road less traveled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Jun 2013 18:30:00 EST. After battling onto iOS late last year, <em>Final Fantasy IV</em> took a bit more active-time to reach Android. The Square RPG is <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFIV_GP">out now</a> for Android 2.3.3 and up, priced $16/&pound;11.<br />
<br />
This version's a tad different from the one released for the SNES as <em>Final Fantasy II</em> outside of Japan. Key cut scenes are underlined by voice acting, and dungeon maps start off blank in case the game hasn't branded itself onto your memory cells over the last 20 or so years.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/03/final-fantasy-iv-out-now-on-android/">Final Fantasy IV out now on Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 03 Jun 2013 14:30:00 EST. <br />
Details regarding a little-known sidequest in Square Enix's PSOne RPG <i>Final Fantasy IX</i> have surfaced, sparking fan discussion some 13 years after the game's initial release.<br />
<br />
GameFAQs user The_Kusabi_ <a href="http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/197338-final-fantasy-ix/66283454">discovered</a> the sidequest while reading through <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_IX_Ultimania">Final Fantasy IX Ultimania</a>, a 600-page guide/tome that was never released outside of Japan. Despite its appearance in an official guide, the secret remained undocumented in the western world, evading the watchful eye of FAQ authors until recently.<br />
<br />
According to fan documentation, the newly discovered sidequest only triggers after entering the game's final dungeon. It activates once the player speaks to the Nero brothers in Lindblum, and advances alongside specific story triggers and boss battles within the final dungeon. The quest requires the player to return to the Nero brothers a minimum of 9 times within a possible 16 advancement points, adding another layer of complexity to a quest that a majority of players would never see in the first place.<br />
<br />
Fans can attest that <i>Final Fantasy IX</i> is rife with obscure secrets like this one. An alternate bit of dialogue during the game's opening can only be seen if the player answers a question incorrectly <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Ruby_(Final_Fantasy_IX)">64 times in a row</a>, for instance. One of <i>Final Fantasy IX</i>'s more notorious secrets is the <a href="http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Excalibur_II">Excalibur II</a> sword, which can only be obtained by speeding through the game, start to finish, in under 12 hours.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/28/obscure-final-fantasy-ix-sidequest-uncovered-and-detailed/">Obscure Final Fantasy IX sidequest uncovered and detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 May 2013 18:15:00 EST. <br />
Square Enix deployed the latest Final Fantasy Tactics variant this week. <em>Tactics S</em> is a free-to-play Mobage spin-off, and it's available in Japan now on iOS and Android.<br />
<br />
<em>Tactics S</em> features more than 300 character jobs from the grid-based strategy series, and two new ones in the form of Air Samurai and Musician. You can build up clans for use in both single-player quests and in multiplayer battles against other clans, with online tournaments held on a daily basis.<br />
<br />
In its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/square-enix-posts-134m-fiscal-net-loss-projects-profit-for-com/">fiscal year review</a>, Square Enix said it will increasingly target smartphone and tablet games. The company cited Mobage game Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade, recently released in North America and Europe, as a "satisfactorily profitable" example. So, while there's no word on <em>Tactics S</em> traversing the oceans, don't be too surprised if it reaches western shores at some point down the line.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/28/final-fantasy-tactics-s-launches-in-japan-on-ios-android/">Final Fantasy Tactics S launches in Japan on iOS, Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 May 2013 10:05:00 EST. Some potentially good news in the world of eternal grudges today, with more evidence of a new game in the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/nosgoth">Legacy of Kain</a> series being unearthed. Buried in the driver files of a new patch to AMD's Crossfire program are several references to "War for Nosgoth" and "Nosgoth."<br />

The files were spotted by <a href="http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1919865&amp;postcount=1">Eidos forum</a> user Corlagon, via a <a href="http://twitter.com/CatalystCreator/status/337312674343964672">tweet from an AMD employee</a>. Kain fans will know that the game takes place in the realm of Nosgoth, and you may also recall that Square Enix <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/10/square-enix-host-registers-wolfenstein-legacy-of-kain-domains/">registered the domain</a> "WarForNosgoth.com" earlier this year.<br />
<br />
Furthermore, <a href="http://steamdb.info/app/200110/#section_history">SteamDB</a>, which keeps records of Steams extensive database, logged the image above, again suggesting Kain and Raziel might return to go another round. As <a href="http://www.vgleaks.com/war-for-nosgoth-legacy-of-kain-title-appears-in-amd-drivers/">VGLeaks</a> notes, the symbol in the image matches the configuration of the Pillars of Nosgoth, one of the important landmarks in the Kain series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/27/legacy-of-kain-revival-suggested-by-amd-drivers/">Legacy of Kain revival suggested by AMD drivers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 May 2013 13:30:00 EST. With the epiphanic clarity that comes at the bottom of the third strawberry milkshake, Square Enix is reimagining the way it interacts with customers and the very definition of "AAA" games. As part of a recently translated <a href="http://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/">results briefing</a>, originally presented on the day the company announced a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/square-enix-posts-134m-fiscal-net-loss-projects-profit-for-com/">$134 million loss for the fiscal year</a>, Senior Exec. Managing Director Yosuke Matsuda detailed three new strategic initiatives for the company's AAA business.<br />
<br />
Square Enix plans to construct a portfolio tailored to consumer tastes in respective regions, after finding it "extremely difficult" to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-weak-sales-tomb-raider-hitman-absolution/">sell major titles worldwide</a>. The company will focus on tablets and mobile. And, finally, it will overhaul large-scale, long-term development to increase asset turnover (i.e. get games out the door).<br />
<br />
Regarding that final point, Matsuda brings up Kickstarter and Valve's Steam Greenlight/Early Access as models to interact with customers while a game is in development.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/27/square-enixs-three-initiatives-to-reform-its-aaa-business/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Square Enix's three initiatives to reform its AAA business</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/27/square-enixs-three-initiatives-to-reform-its-aaa-business/">Square Enix's three initiatives to reform its AAA business</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 May 2013 09:30:00 EST. Frugal survivalists can enlist in Lara Croft's prequel adventure, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-2013"><em>Tomb Raider</em></a>, for $13.60 today. The deal is over on PC digital distribution outlet <a href="http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/action/tomb-raider/">Green Man Gaming</a>, which has the Crystal Dynamics reboot currently listed at $17 - simply add coupon code "<strong>GMG20-LLASD-D8WBQ</strong>" (without quotes, boldness is entirely up to you) in the checkout screen and you'll get the extra-reduced price.<br />
<br />
In <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/tomb-raider-review/">our review</a> of <em>Tomb Raider</em>, we cited the joy of exploration and story's revelatory crescendo as catalysts for our love of Lara's coming-of-age tale. "The arc is drawn perfectly, with the edges of the old <em>Tomb Raider</em> starting to poke through as the story comes to a close, teasing what's yet to come." Several DLC packs have been issued, adding new maps and modes to the multiplayer side of the game. Crystal Dynamics has said it has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/tomb-raider-single-player-dlc-isnt-in-crystal-dynamics-current/">no plans to offer single-player DLC</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/tomb-raider-on-sale-for-14-at-green-man-gaming/">Tomb Raider on sale for $14 at Green Man Gaming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 May 2013 16:30:00 EST. You know Nintendo Direct - now meet Square Enix Presents. That's the name of the company's live-at-E3 video series, which it'll be broadcasting via YouTube.<br />
<br />
Square Enix Presents promises coverage on the company's E3 line-up, which is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/20/square-enix-developing-new-final-fantasy-for-ps4-first-taste-at/">expected</a> to include the new Final Fantasy for PS4. It'll also feature dev interviews, game demos, and presentations on upcoming content. And, apparently, lots of chocobo music.<br />
<br />
The shows will run across all three main days of the conference, which are June 11-13.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/square-enix-announces-live-e3-video-shows/">Square Enix announces 'live' E3 video shows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 14:00:00 EST. Square Enix America CEO Mike Fischer left the company this month and is now vice president of digital music and video for Amazon in Japan, Polygon <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/23/4358542/president-of-square-enix-of-america-leaves-company">reports</a>. This follows news in April that Square Enix America eliminated "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/03/square-enix-los-angeles-layoff-details-ceo-rumored-to-be-out-by/">a number of positions</a>" and Fischer was expected to leave in May. Those same reports said the head of marketing should be gone after E3, along with other employees in public relations.<br />
<br />
In March, Square Enix President <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-president-wada-to-step-down-106m-restructuring-l/">Yoichi Wada</a> stepped down and the company announced widespread restructuring that it expected to cost $106 million. Square Enix posted a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/square-enix-posts-134m-fiscal-net-loss-projects-profit-for-com/">net loss of $134 million</a> for fiscal year 2013, citing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-weak-sales-tomb-raider-hitman-absolution/">"weak" sales</a> of major console games, including <em>Sleeping Dogs</em>, <em>Hitman: Absolution</em> and <em>Tomb Raider</em>, the last of which sold 3.4 million in its first month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/23/report-square-enix-america-ceo-leaves-joins-amazon/">Report: Square Enix America CEO leaves, joins Amazon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 May 2013 13:30:00 EST. Eidos Montreal confirmed through its <a href="http://thiefgame.tumblr.com/post/51001884975/today-were-proud-to-announce-that">official Tumblr</a> today that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/thief-2014/">Thief</a></em> will be coming to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a>. The game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/eidos-montreal-confirms-thief-4-worst-kept-secret-in-industry/">first announced in 2009</a>, was confirmed for PS4, PC and other next-gen consoles in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/thief-2014/">March</a>, which we can now take to mean the next-generation <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-reveal">Xbox revealed today</a>.<br />
<br />
The <em>Thief</em> reboot reportedly suffered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/report-thief-reboot-suffered-multiple-setbacks/">many setbacks</a> during its five-year development period, including significant <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/14/report-thief-4-development-in-trouble/">turnover in staff</a> at Eidos Montreal. The developer included a "glimpse" at the next-gen game in its Tumblr post in the form of a screen with an <em>alarming</em> amount of fire in it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/thief-sneaks-onto-xbox-one/">Thief sneaks onto Xbox One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 17:55:00 EST. [Rough translation of the above dialogue: "<i>...whatever.</i>"]<br />
<br />
The ever-sullen Squall and his friends are set to make a high-resolution return, as Famitsu <a href="http://www.famitsu.com/news/201305/16033362.html">reports</a> that Square Enix is developing a remastered PC version of <i>Final Fantasy VIII</i>.<br />
<br />
 <i>Final Fantasy VIII</i> was originally released for the PlayStation in 1999, and PC players saw a no-frills Windows port one year later. News of <i>Final Fantasy VIII</i>'s forthcoming rerelease follows up on last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/14/final-fantasy-vii-returns-on-pc-for-real-this-time/">upgraded PC port</a> of <i>Final Fantasy VII</i>, which added cloud saving and unlockable achievements. While the new version of <i>Final Fantasy VIII</i> boasts a graphical update, no further details are known, and a release date has not been announced.

A DLC-stuffed version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-xiii-2"><em>Final Fantasy XIII-2</em></a> is headed for Japanese retail shelves on July 18. Square Enix released a ton of additional content for the JRPG sequel, and the 'Digital Contents Collection,' going for around $50, offers most of it.<br />
<br />
The bundle features the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/lightnings-story-finally-hits-final-fantasy-xiii-2/">Snow</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/lightnings-story-finally-hits-final-fantasy-xiii-2/">Lightning</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/16/new-dlc-brings-afros-and-bikinis-to-final-fantasy-xiii-2/">Sazh</a> episodes, as well as three weapons, seven costumes, and six Coliseum opponents. <a href="http://gematsu.com/2013/05/final-fantasy-xiii-2-dlc-collection-announced-for-japan">Gematsu</a> has the full list. Also, the DLC from the Collection is coming in its own bundle to PSN and XBLM.<br />
<br />
Square Enix is also re-releasing the game in the country under the 'Ultimate Hits' label. That version arrives in stores on the same day, but also on PSN and XBLM two days prior.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/final-fantasy-xiii-2-dlc-collection-announced-for-japan-coming/">Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC Collection announced for Japan, coming in July</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 May 2013 11:15:00 EST. As approximately projected, Square Enix posted a net loss of &yen;13.7 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31 2013, that converting to around $134 million. Back in March, Square Enix announced it was implementing major restructuring that would produce an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-president-wada-to-step-down-106m-restructuring-l/">"extraordinary loss"</a>. Today the company further detailed its new strategy for the next fiscal year, in which it projects a return to profit.<br />
<br />
"The business environment surrounding the [Square Enix] Group is in the midst of major changes, where smart devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs are spreading rapidly," Square Enix stated in today's results, "while the console game markets in North America and Europe are increasingly competitive and oligopolistic. In light of such environmental changes, the Group is focusing all efforts on a substantial earnings improvement through driving reforms of business structure in order to establish new revenue base."<br />
<br />
Square Enix previously noted<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/26/square-enix-weak-sales-tomb-raider-hitman-absolution/"> "weak" sales of "big console titles"</a> in North America and Europe, including <em>Sleeping Dogs</em>, <em>Hitman: Absolution</em>, and even <em>Tomb Raider</em>. Today the company said it will increasingly target smartphones and tablets, citing <em>Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade</em> and <em>Kaku-San-Sei Million Arthur </em>as satisfactorily profitable. Square Enix also noted <em>Dragon Quest X </em>as "showing steady performance."<br />
<br />
As such, the restructuring brings overhauls to Square Enix's larger-scale development,with the company looking to improve turnover and produce content better tailored for different regions. Square Enix was clearly dissatisfied with the performance of its western portfolio, and layoffs were incurred in the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/02/layoffs-square-enix-los-angeles/">North American</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/29/square-enix-lays-off-staff-in-europe/">European</a> divisions.<br />
<br />
Square Enix believes these changes will be the platform for profit in the coming fiscal year, projecting net income of between &yen;3.5 billion and &yen;6 billion, or $34.4 million to $59 million.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/square-enix-posts-134m-fiscal-net-loss-projects-profit-for-com/">Square Enix posts $134M fiscal net loss, projects profit for coming year</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. <em>Final Fantasy X-2 HD</em> could feature content never previously released outside of Japan, although Square Enix is reportedly "undecided" about including it. According to Famitsu (via <a href="http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20130510-00000006-famitsu-game">Yahoo Japan</a>), the publisher is considering the "Last Mission" content from the Japan-only 'International Version.' It features an extra mission set after the original's ending.<br />
<br />
Extra content would definitely make the HD remaster more enticing for western fans - although some might argue <em>X-2</em>'s perfect ending (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbugG6m0b-A">spoilers</a>) tinkered with the storyline quite enough thank you. In any case (we're not bitter honestly) the remasters of <i>X</i> and <i>X-2</i> come west (really we're not) later this year, arriving together on PS3 but separately on Vita. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/">Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/#5869533"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/10679ffx2hd01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/#5869534"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/10680ffx2hd02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/#5869535"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/10681ffx2hd03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/#5869536"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/10682ffx2hd04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/#5869537"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/10683ffx2hd05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/report-final-fantasy-x-2-hd-could-include-last-mission/">Report: Final Fantasy X-2 HD could include 'Last Mission'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 May 2013 06:00:00 EST. This Tuesday <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/kingdom-hearts-hd-1-5-remix-release-dates/">brought the announcement</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kingdom-hearts-15-hd-remix">Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix</a></em>'s American release date, and with it, feelings of ambivalence from people like me who once thought the strange pairing of Square and Disney would do more than tread water for a decade. I worked at a mall GameStop when the first installment launched in the fall of 2002, and even though I'd outgrown Disney (and had begun to outgrow Square), <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> felt like the first true RPG of the PS2 era, outclassing the at-the-time-recent <em>Final Fantasy X</em>, which relied on the same pre-rendered - albeit prettier - backgrounds that evoked the previous console generation's limitations.<br />
<br />
Regardless of how you felt about the characters on display, turning away from our in-store TV during the <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> demo reel proved nearly impossible; Square's technical wizards worked overtime to ensure that an army of 2D Disney characters would look and move perfectly in real-time 3D - and they still do nearly 11 years later. For fans of Japanese RPGs and classic animation, the tag-team of Square and Disney felt like some impossible dream that somehow came true, despite the odds against it. After leaving the Capcom legacy behind in the mid-90s, the existence of <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> seemed like a second chance for Disney to make their games more than just cheap tie-ins sold on marketing alone.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-1-5-hd-remix-2-25-13/">Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix (2/25/13)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-1-5-hd-remix-2-25-13/#5665839"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/kh-hdr-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-1-5-hd-remix-2-25-13/#5665840"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/kh-hdr-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-1-5-hd-remix-2-25-13/#5665841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/kh-hdr-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-1-5-hd-remix-2-25-13/#5665842"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/kh-hdr-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-1-5-hd-remix-2-25-13/#5665843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/kh-hdr-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/the-troubled-history-of-kingdom-hearts-reflects-square-enixs-ow/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The troubled history of Kingdom Hearts reflects Square Enix's own</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/the-troubled-history-of-kingdom-hearts-reflects-square-enixs-ow/">The troubled history of Kingdom Hearts reflects Square Enix's own</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 May 2013 18:00:00 EST. PopCap puzzler <em>Gyromancer </em>and <em>Hitman: Sniper Challenge</em> are the latest targets for Square Enix's browser-based <a href="http://beta.coreonline.com">Core Online</a> service. <em>Sniper Challenge,</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hitman-sniper-challenge">if you remember</a>, was a pre-order bonus for <em>Hitman: Absolution</em>.<br />
<br />
What both games coming to Core Online does alert us to are changes to the service's payment structure. It was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/14/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light-now-stationed-on-core-online/">originally</a> completely free-to-play, albeit with intermittent ads. However, free play is limited now to 20 minutes each day (still with ads). At 20 minutes a day, it's going to take about a month to complete <em>Tomb Raider: Underworld</em>.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kingdom-hearts-15-hd-remix"><em>Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix</em></a> is lined up for North America on September 10, and Europe on September 13. The upgrade to the autumn release window came courtesy of a Square Enix post on the PlayStation Blog, which also outlined the pre-order bonus for both regions, namely a limited edition artbook.<br />
<br />
The PS3 compilation includes HD versions of PS2 games <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> <em>Final Mix </em>and <em>Re:Chain of Memories; Final Mix</em> is the formerly Japan-only re-release of the original <em>Kindgom Hearts</em>, while <em>Re:Chain of Memories</em> is the PS2 remake of GBA entry <em>Chain of Memories</em>. <em>HD 1.5 Remix</em> also features the cutscenes from DS game <em>358/2 Days </em>(in HD too!).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/kingdom-hearts-hd-1-5-remix-release-dates/">Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix plays NA on Sep. 10, EU Sep. 13</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 May 2013 09:00:00 EST. PlayStation Plus breaches the Eastern crime zone of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/sleeping-dogs"><em>Sleeping Dogs</em></a> in North America on May 7. As revealed on this week's PlayStation Blogcast, PS Plus subscribers get express tickets for some murder on the Orient in next week's store update.<br />
<br />
Also joining the Instant Game Collection in May are <em>Pinball Arcade</em> on the PS3, which comes with the Tales of the Arabian Nights, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Black Hole, and Theater of Magic tables, as well as subterranean side-scroller <em>Knytt Underground</em> and enhanced fighter <em>BlazBlue: Contiuum Shift Extend.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/03/sleeping-dogs-yips-onto-playstation-plus-may-7/">Sleeping Dogs yips onto PlayStation Plus May 7</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 May 2013 08:40:00 EST. Steam is offering a 50 percent discount on assorted Tomb Raider games this weekend. The sale drops the price of the latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-2013"><em>Tomb Raider</em></a> game to $25, with the Survival Edition knocked down to $28.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/26663/"><em>Tomb Raider Collection</em></a>, which features 10 games from the series (including this year's entry), is also part of this weekend's deal. That sizable bundle of games can be bought for $35. Steam's weekend sale ends at 10am Pacific time on Monday, May 6. PS3 owners can still pick up Lara Croft's recent adventure on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/26/tomb-raider-30-on-psn-this-weekend-20-on-gmg/">PSN for $30</a> this weekend.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/02/everything-tomb-raider-50-percent-off-on-steam-this-weekend/">Everything Tomb Raider 50 percent off on Steam this weekend</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 May 2013 23:15:00 EST. The Japanese release of the CD will come in a special box with art by character designer Yoshitaka Amano.<br /><br />While the CD soundtrack likely won't see official release in North America, you can purchase it from an importer like <a href="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SQEX-10373">CDJapan</a>. And Square Enix is <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/square-enix-music/id300171518">surprisingly good</a> about digitally releasing soundtracks.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/29/square-enix-releasing-remaster-soundtracks-for-snes-final-fant/">Square Enix releasing 'Remaster' soundtracks for SNES Final Fantasy games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Apr 2013 19:30:00 EST. "We do expect changes to the UK office, which will affect personnel," the publisher said. "We will update you when the time is right, but our priority right now is for the people within the business." We've reached out to Square Enix for more information.<br /><br />These cuts follow <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/03/square-enix-los-angeles-layoff-details-ceo-rumored-to-be-out-by/">layoffs in Square Enix's North American division</a>, during which the company warned of cuts coming in Europe and Japan. Iru and Luka were the stars in the Game Boy Color's <i>Dragon Quest Monsters 2</i>.<br /><br /><i>Dragon Quest Monsters 2</i> was originally released as a set of two cartridges, as was the popular thing to do back when the <i>Pokemon</i> craze was at its peak. Each cart featured a different playable protagonist and its own unique set of collectible monsters, which players could trade with others via the Game Boy's link cable. Both versions were later released in North America as <i>Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure</i> and <i>Cobi's Journey</i>.<br /><br />A remake of 1998's <i>Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland</i> launched for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan last year and met with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/07/square-enix-sees-losses-in-fiscal-q1-but-handheld-and-social-ga/">stellar sales</a>. The remade sequel will likely join its predecessor on the Nintendo 3DS, and the trademarked subtitle indicates that it will consolidate content from the two Game Boy Color releases.<br /><br />A U.S. release for <i>Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D</i> has not been announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/26/rumor-japanese-trademark-suggests-dragon-quest-monsters-2-remak/">Rumor: Japanese trademark suggests Dragon Quest Monsters 2 remake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Apr 2013 19:45:00 EST. Agent 47's latest adventure sneaks onto the service on May 1, joining four other as-yet-unrevealed games next month. Considering it only came out in November 2012, <em>Absolution</em>'s impending arrival marks another strong entry in PS Plus's European line-up, with <em>Dead or Alive 5</em>, <em>Sleeping Dogs</em>, <em>Mass Effect 3</em> and <em>Batman: Arkham City</em> all coming to the subscription service in recent months.<br /><br />In the meantime, both Plus subscribers and others can take advantage of a new PSN sale for the region. The 'Declassified' sale starts today and runs until April 24, bringing savings to Crysis, Hitman, Metal Slug, and Tom Clancy games among others. Standout discounts include <em>Hitman Trilogy HD</em> for &euro;11.99/&pound;9.69, and &euro;19.99/&pound;15.99 for the Splinter Cell Complete Pack, which includes <em>SC Trilogy HD</em>, <em>SC: Essentials</em>, and <em>SC: Double Agent</em>. As usual, those prices and all the others in the sale drop a further 10 percent with Plus.<br /><br />You can snoop a full list of discounts on the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2013/04/10/playstation-store-declassified-sale-begins-today/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SCEEBlog+%28blog.eu.playstation.com%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader">PlayStation Blog</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/hitman-absolution-coming-to-eu-ps-plus-may-psn-sale-begins-tod/">Hitman Absolution coming to EU PS Plus May 1, PSN sale begins today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 10:00:00 EST.
