Namco Bandai will be "co-publishing" and distributing the Digital Extremes-developed space romp alongside Paramount Digital Entertainment sometime during the first quarter of 2013.<br /><br />The Q1 2013 window puts this immediately before the May 17 theatrical release of the next Abrams <em>Trek</em> film -- marketing synergy that may explain the game's quiet delay from its original 2012 release window. Deep Silver announced a PSN/XBLA game that combines <em>Who Wants to Be a Millionaire</em> trivia gameplay with a <em>Star Trek: The Original Series</em> theme -- and we were totally into it. We like the idea of a specific, safe venue for us to feel good about knowing a bunch of stuff about <em>Star Trek</em>. You can choose from one of four avatars, including Uhura, a Vulcan officer, a Starfleet cadet, or an Orion slave girl, and "phone-a-friend" to a <em>Star Trek </em>character.<br /><br />Alas, we won't get to satisfy our blood fever in the field of trivia combat. But you might! Star Trek: The Original Series - Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will be available in February "to fans worldwide except North America, Canada and Mexico." Ironically, we would be unable to play it if we were in Starfleet's San Francisco headquarters.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-the-original-series-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire/">Star Trek: The Original Series - Who Wants to Be a Millionaire</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-the-original-series-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire/#4766183"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/trek12001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-the-original-series-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire/#4766184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/trek12002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-the-original-series-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire/#4766186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/trek12003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-the-original-series-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire/#4766187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/trek12004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-the-original-series-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire/#4766188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/trek12005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/20/star-trek-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire-boldly-going-everywher/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Trek - Who Wants To Be A Millionaire boldly going everywhere but America</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/20/star-trek-who-wants-to-be-a-millionaire-boldly-going-everywher/">Star Trek - Who Wants To Be A Millionaire boldly going everywhere but America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 13:29:00 EST. Consider us optimistically intrigued by the debut trailer for Digital Extremes' new, co-op-centric <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/star-trek"><em>Star Trek</em></a> title which aired earlier tonight at the Sony E3 press conference. Check out the video after the jump to see all the phaser lasers and spaceship explosions you could possibly require.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/star-trek-trailer-jumps-into-space-our-hearts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Trek trailer jumps into space, our hearts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/star-trek-trailer-jumps-into-space-our-hearts/">Star Trek trailer jumps into space, our hearts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 23:45:00 EST. During Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/sony-e3-keynote/">E3 press conference</a>, Jack Tretton announced that the upcoming co-op <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/star-trek-videogame-2012/"><em>Star Trek</em></a> title will feature both PlayStation and Move support. PlayStation network will also host an exclusive downloadable prequel to the game, which will also be 3D and PlayStation Move enabled. <em>Star Trek</em> is scheduled to be released next year.<br />
<br />
We'll be seeing the game later this week, so stay tuned for more info.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/new-star-trek-to-feature-move-and-3d-support-psn-exclusive-preq/">New Star Trek to feature Move and 3D support, PSN-exclusive prequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jun 2011 21:24:00 EST. Paramount Digital Entertainment has announced a brand new <em>Star Trek</em> title starring Kirk and Spock as envisioned in J. J. Abrams' 2009 <em>Star Trek</em> film. Titled simply <em>Star Trek</em>, the game is under development at Digital Extremes (<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock 2</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-darkness-2"><em>Darkness 2</em></a>) and takes place after the film, tasking Kirk and Spock with taking down "a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy." The story is being handled by <em>God of War</em> writer Marianne Krawczyk along with the film's writers Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman.<br />
<br />
The development team is "working closely" with Abrams' Bad Robot production company and producer Damon Lindelof, with Paramount promising co-op and "AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise." <em>Star Trek</em> is slated to materialize on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012. It will also be on display at E3 next week, and you can bet your space boots we'll be beaming down.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/star-trek-videogame-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Star Trek co-op game sets phasers for 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/03/star-trek-videogame-2012/">Star Trek co-op game sets phasers for 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Jun 2011 10:00:00 EST. <em>Star Trek: Infinite Space</em> is a free-to-play, casual browser-based game launching in the summer of 2011. Published by Gameforge (don't worry, you've likely never heard of 'em) and developed by Keen (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jamie-oliver/"><em>What's Cooking? With Jamie Oliver</em></a>, <em>Anno</em> on Wii and DS), it's set during the <em>Deep Space Nine</em> timeline.<br />
<br />
Keen Games creative director Antony Christoulakis says, "We consider ourselves very lucky to have this opportunity and we are highly committed to delivering a <em>Star Trek</em> experience fans can be proud of." Wouldn't it be awkward if this freemium game ends up being more compelling than the for-pay (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/12/star-trek-online-producer-could-easily-see-the-game-using-turb/">for-now</a>) <em>Star Trek Online</em>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/28/star-trek-infinite-space-explores-browser-based-gaming-in-2011/">Star Trek: Infinite Space explores browser-based gaming in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Sep 2010 21:00:00 EST. Cryptic Studios and Atari are taking <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/promotions">a two-fold approach</a> to increasing the player base for their spacefaring MMO, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>: First, potential subscribers can now download the game and play through the tutorial and first mission for free. Though they'll have an unlimited amount of time to tool around in their Federation vessel, players will have to purchase the full game to gain access to <em>STO</em>'s other offerings.<br />
<br />
In addition, former subscribers can play for free this weekend, and check out the new content that's been added as part of the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/24/invasion-of-deep-space-nine-invades-star-trek-online/">first "Season" of updates</a>. The "Welcome Back Weekend" ends Monday at 10 a.m. PST, so we suggest applicable parties should hop online ASAP, so as not to waste any potential Trekking time.<br />

Fan project <em>Star Trek Adventures: Year One</em> has the unusual distinction of being doubly retro. Not only does it meticulously recreate the nearly 45-year-old <em>Star Trek</em> series, it's also got an uncanny resemblance to an early '90s adventure game (think <em>Quest for Glory</em> or, indeed, Interplay's <em>Star Trek 25th Anniversary</em>). The act of playing forces one to simultaneously pine for two bygone eras, the effect of which is not unlike watching <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruit_Brute">Fruit Brute</a> playing with a Teddy Ruxpin.<br />
<br />
If you're unsure whether or not you can handle that level of nostalgia, there's a demo for the game on the <a href="http://www.startrekadventures.com/yearone/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=75&amp;Itemid=71">project's official homepage</a>.<br />

The next mission from "<a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/season_one">Season One</a>" of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em>'s</a> free content updates will soon be added to the game. Titled "DS9 Under Siege," the new episode will bring about a massive invasion upon the typically peaceful space station Deep Space Nine. You might know it from the show <em>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine</em>. Remember? It was right there in the title.<br />
<br />
Check out <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3257/">the trailer above</a> to see what players will be up against when the new episode launches. (Spoiler alert: It's lasers. Trekkies will soon have a chance to face off against a new, deadlier Borg adversary in the first wave of "Special Task Force Missions" in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Star-Trek-Online/"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>. Federation and Klingon players alike will have the opportunity to tackle the difficult five-person PvE quests when the update hits the recently released MMO.<br />
<br />
The first five <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/13/borg-soon-assimilating-star-trek-online-in-upcoming-content-upda/">STF missions</a> include "Children of Khan," where an escaped Amar Singh <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_vehicle_theft">GTA</a>'s the U.S.S. Asgard and races toward the remains of the Mutara Nebula and "Infected," where more than 400 Starfleet officers aboard a star base have seemingly disappeared off the galaxy and require immediate assistance to combat the new Borg enemy. In the world of Star Trek, there's nothing quite like grabbing a few moments of R&amp;R with your first mate on the holodeck or heading down to engineering to check up on your favorite ship's power core. Unfortunately, as we've been unable to explore the interior of our own ships since we first got our hands on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online">Star Trek Online</a></em>'s pre-release beta program (nonetheless the final product), those wonderfully humdrum space activities will have to be postponed for a little while. But hey, they're coming ... or so says Cryptic executive producer Craig Zinkievich, at least.<br />
<br />
"Anything we can do to make the game feel even more like Star Trek is something we want to do ... so, definitely, we want to give people more of their ship," he tells <a href="http://www.incgamers.com/News/21011/cryptic-wants-to-open-up-star-trek-online-ships">Inc Gamers</a>, adding, "This is one of those things we want to get perfect before introducing it to players, though," indicating that the functionality likely won't be arriving in the near future. And us, well we just want to passive aggressively flirt with crew members -- is that so much to ask?<br />

While we're certain you <em>well-adjusted lotharios</em> spent your Valentine's Day basking in the adoration of your significant other, 99 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> fans spent the day breaking the most unapologetically dorky world record known to mankind: The most costumed Star Trek fans <a href="http://timesonline.typepad.com/technology/2010/02/star-trek-world-record-comes-to-london.html">ever gathered in a single place</a>. We imagine they also broke the "most depressing way to spend a Valentine's Day" record as well, but we don't have any way of empirically proving that.<br />
<br />
No, you know what? We take back that mean thing we just said. 99 people chose to dress up like their favorite Star Trek character, suffered crummy weather to gather on London's Millennium Bridge, and celebrated this thing that they love. Hell, if we'd known Atari representatives were going to be there to distribute free <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/star-trek-online-lifetime-12-month-subscription-deals/">lifetime subscriptions</a> to the game, we would've happily helped to bring the grand total of participants into the triple digits.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/star-trek-online-fans-set-nerdiest-world-record-ever/">Star Trek Online fans set nerdiest world record ever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 18:30:00 EST. The patch will add a series of high-level episodes (that's <em>STO</em>-speak for "quests") to the game which will throw players into a number of ground and space conflicts with the cybernetic species, leading up to a climactic raid encounter with the Borg Queen.<br />

Are you somewhat satisfied with your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> avatar, but wish he or she possessed more unsightly forehead ridges? Perhaps you desire a pair of ears shaped and sized like funnel cakes? Do you wish it looked like your brain was attempting to escape out of the top of your head? Good news -- the Federation Ferengi race <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/node/1001">can now be downloaded in-game</a> for 80 Cryptic Points, which translates to a shiny half-dollar in real-world funds.<br />
<br />
Federation players also have the option to download what we can only assume to be a reformed species of Klingon for 240 Cryptic points, or $1.50. We're still unsure as to why anyone would play <em>Star Trek Online</em> and <em>not</em> make their own race, since we wouldn't find the game so compelling without the adventures of Barbicane, the only surviving Bonerian in the galaxy.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/pay-to-become-a-ferengi-or-federation-klingon-in-star-trek-onlin/">Pay to become a Ferengi or Federation Klingon in Star Trek Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Feb 2010 11:30:00 EST. Sure, we'd like a lot of things, too. Could we get a butterscotch waterfall in the backyard and maybe tiny, invisible robo-men with jetpacks to do the dishes for us every night? Or, better yet, could we get a better explanation for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/champions-online"><em>Champions Online</em></a>'s hold-up besides the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/28/cryptic-ms-holding-back-xbox-360-champions-online/">blame Microsoft</a>" you said six months ago? But, we digress.<br />
<br />
Cryptic's <span class="text_article_body">Craig Zinkievich told <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=233275">CVG</a> that a console port of the <em>com-pooter</em> MMO is something the company is "definitely" interested in. <br />
However, before you break out your <em>good</em> Starfleet duds and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6oUz1v17Uo">crank the jamz up to eleven</a> in celebration, know that should Cryptic pursue a console port, it likely wouldn't be available for quite some time. </span><span class="text_article_body">Zinkievich puts it this way: </span><span class="text_article_body">"But we'll have to see how <em>Star Trek</em> does and then secondly we want to do it justice and not hurry something along just to get it on the console."</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/01/cryptic-would-love-to-get-star-trek-online-to-consoles/">Cryptic would 'love' to get Star Trek Online to consoles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Feb 2010 15:03:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><u>MESSAGE BEGINS</u><br />
<br />
Attention to all members of Starfleet. It has come to the attention of Starfleet's admiralty that the recent Borg activity in the Vega system has resulted in several thousand ensigns suddenly being promoted to the rank of captain. A very strange turn of events, to be sure, though Starfleet is no stranger to such events. Just last week, we encountered a race of people that spoke entirely in metaphor. Crazy, right?<br />
<br />
In related Starfleet news, a spacetime anomaly (yes, another one) has manufactured an additional day of what we perceive as time. Please note that there is no need to adjust your ship's internal chronometer. The upshot of all this is that the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> beta has been <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/node/942">extended by twenty-four hours</a> and will now end at 1800 hours (6:00pm Pacific), January 26. We would advise the thousands of improbable new captains to use this time wisely.<br />
<br />
<u>MESSAGE ENDS</u><br />

The MMO-developing band over at Cryptic has released an absolutely <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/node/910">massive update</a> to the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> open beta. There are literally pages of fixes and changes, though Cryptic has thankfully distilled the major "headline" changes into a few bullet points:
<ul>
    <li>The level cap has been removed, which should be music to the ears of the pre-release power levelers out there.</li>
    <li>Cardassian and Romulan space is now accessible to Federation players, too, and there are some changes to bridge officer mechanics.</li>
    <li>Additionally, the update allows players to use the mini-map to scan anomalies. As we all know, anomalies need scanning like nobody's business, so that's good news.</li>
</ul>
Perhaps most important of all is that Spock himself, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/22/leonard-nimoy-lending-deep-soothing-voice-to-star-trek-online/">Mr. Leonard Nimoy</a>, now offers an "audio journal overview" upon entering a new sector of space. That's <em>great</em> news because, just like bacon, everything's better with Nimoy. Hit the source link for the full patch release notes (be sure to click through the splash page).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/21/star-trek-online-beta-gets-huge-update-adds-more-nimoy/">Star Trek Online beta gets huge update, adds more Nimoy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Jan 2010 16:30:00 EST. Cryptic has announced some special <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online">Star Trek Online</a> </em><a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/exclusive_specials">subscription options</a> for anyone planning to sink some serious time into the game. The company is selling a lifetime subscription to the game for $239.99, which will last however long the game does. Also included with the lifetime subscription is a playable Borg character and two extra character slots. If you're not quite <em>that</em> devoted, you can opt for a 12-month subscription for $119.99, which also includes two extra character slots.<br />
<a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/01/15/star-trek-online-subscription-deals-revealed"><br />
Big Download</a> notes that regular subscriptions range from $14.99 per month, $41.97 for three months or $77.94 for six months, so the 12-month subscription is substantially cheaper than the $155.88 it would cost for two six-month subscriptions. Remember that the 12-month and lifetime subscriptions are available only for pre-orders, so you'll have to put some money down if you want to save money in the future.<br />
<br />
As for whether you'll actually still be <em>playing</em> it in the future, you'll just have to wait and see. Or you could use a tachyon pulse. That works too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/star-trek-online-lifetime-12-month-subscription-deals/">Star Trek Online lifetime, 12-month subscription deals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 16:15:00 EST. You can easily get the gist from <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/2662/">the moving pictures</a>, which give a brief look at the Klingon Empire's homeworld, its floating armadas, and somewhere in the vicinity of 17,000 laser discharges. Forget the fact the game isn't even out yet -- we feel confident calling it the "Most Lasered Game of 2010." <br />
<br />
If that sounds like something you want to be a part of, it's not too late to <a href="http://startrekonline.com/openbeta#faq">find an entry key for the open beta</a>!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;"><u>MESSAGE BEGINS<br />
<br />
</u></div>
Attention Starfleet cadets, this is a reminder that the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> <a href="http://startrekonline.com/openbeta">open beta</a> testing program begins today, January 12, 2010 (stardate 63497.4). Those cadets wishing to participate will need to acquire a client and a beta access key. A client may be obtained from the Big Download database located <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/star-trek-online/pc/star-trek-online-open-beta-client">here</a>. Massively.com has a cache of 10,000 beta access keys that will be granted to cadets on a first come, first serve basis. Please <a href="http://www.massively.com/2010/01/12/star-trek-online-open-beta-key-giveaway/">visit Massively</a> to obtain your access key as soon as possible.<br />
<br />
Also, we would like to remind students that transporter pads in transporter room three are still malfunctioning. Anyone not wishing to have their good and evil halves split between two physically identical bodies should avoid transporter room three if at all possible.<br />
<br />
That is all.<br />
<br />

Last week, our MMO-obsessed sister site Massively took a break from their sneak preview of Cryptic's spacefaring sim, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>, to share some of their thoughts on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/28/massively-goes-where-no-blogs-gone-before-with-star-trek-online/">Klingon faction and player vs. player</a> combat. Today, they've got a preview of <a href="http://www.massively.com/2009/12/31/hands-on-with-star-trek-onlines-early-levels/">the first few levels</a> you'll be grinding through. Is there anything more exciting in an MMORPG than those inaugural hours? All those tutorials? The terrible items? The countless woodland rodents and birds you have to slaughter to become marginally less pathetic?<br />

Last week, we received word that <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/12/17/star-trek-online-video-goes-behind-the-scenes-with-zachary-quint/">Zachary Quinto</a>, who provided the fresh face for Spock in this past summer's <em>Star Trek</em> relaunch, would do the voice of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em>'s</a> "Emergency Medical Hologram tutorial." Today, we received further Spock-based news for the title: According to <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/leonard-nimoy-reprises-legendary-role-of-spock-in-star-trektm-online-79897182.html">an Atari press release</a>, Leonard Nimoy will narrate the game's introduction, and can also be heard during cut scenes and other events throughout the game. For instance, he'll offer a brief congratulation when your <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPFknzqVj_E">first Seaman egg hatches</a>.<br />
<br />
Of course, this announcement has caused fans of the series anticipate the in-game appearance of "old Spock" -- just as Quinto's involvement brought murmurs of a "new Spock" cameo. The somewhat creepier fans began prophesying hot, hot Spock on Spock action. We generally try not to associate with this latter group, for obvious reasons.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/22/leonard-nimoy-lending-deep-soothing-voice-to-star-trek-online/">Leonard Nimoy lending deep, soothing voice to Star Trek Online</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Dec 2009 16:40:00 EST. If <em>Star Trek</em> was made in Japan and starred a bunch of angsty, futuristic, computer-generated teenagers instead of B-movie actors, and if it was a video game, it would probably look a lot like this. At least the part of the trailer <em>before</em> the sword fights and the demonstrations of language options.<br />
<br />
However, while <em>Star Trek </em> benefited from a vocal fan base that <em>saved</em> the original show from cancellation, people who have put time into <em>Star Ocean: The Last Hope</em> are more likely to <em>warn </em>than evangelize.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/21/star-ocean-the-last-hope-international-trailer-boldly-goes-into/">Star Ocean: The Last Hope International trailer boldly goes into Trek territory</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Dec 2009 23:00:00 EST. The trailer features a particularly grim entry in a Starfleet admiral's log. Long story short, the battle between the Klingons and the Federation in the space surrounding starbase 24 isn't going too well. On the plus side, it makes for some great viewing, with lots of phasers, disruptors, torpedos and, most importantly, explosions.<br />

Seriously, Cryptic Studios and Atari -- you are <em>drowning</em> us in screenshots for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>. We had to go out and purchase another external hard drive just so we could keep tabs on our ever-burgeoning "<em>STO</em> Assets" folder. We feel like, if scanned through quickly enough, we could accurately recreate gameplay segments from the title. Really, <em>really</em> disjointed gameplay segments.<br />
<br />
Check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-12-09-09/2521200/">the latest batch</a> in the gallery below, then check out all 104 images we've received to date and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online/">dropped in this gallery</a>. Then, try to approximate how many more we'll receive before the game's February 2 release date. We're guessing somewhere within the vicinity of 3,000, but that's a fairly conservative estimate.<br />

Much like the dreaded <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobayashi_Maru">Kobayashi Maru</a>, there really is no right answer to the question, "Where should I pre-order <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/advanced-retail-programs-announced-for-star-trek-online-78698527.html"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a>?" In its ongoing mission to make games as hard to purchase as possible, Starfleet has issued <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/advanced-retail-programs-announced-for-star-trek-online-78698527.html">different pre-order bonuses</a> to each major American retailer. Want to pilot the Enterprise? You'll have to order from GameStop. Need a pet Tribble? Best Buy. How about a gun that beams projectiles directly to their intended target? Target. That "Liberated Borg" bridge officer you always wanted? Amazon.<br />
<br />
And here we thought all we had to do to get the full enjoyment out of our games was <em>buy them</em>. Those days are over, friend. Check out the full list of pre-order bonuses -- and where to find them -- after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/07/no-win-scenario-star-trek-online-pre-order-bonuses/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>No-win scenario: Star Trek Online pre-order bonuses</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/07/no-win-scenario-star-trek-online-pre-order-bonuses/">No-win scenario: Star Trek Online pre-order bonuses</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Dec 2009 20:00:00 EST. If you're on the fence about Sony's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/22/marvel-shows-us-digital-comic-service-on-psp/">PSP Digital Comics</a> service, the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/11/26/playstation-network-digital-comics/">PlayStation UK</a> blog has a few more sampler comics to decide whether the feature piques your interest. Available for lucky users in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are two sampler comics, featuring the service's highly touted Autoflow feature -- which mimics the way your eyes read a page. Following the release of the PSP's 6.20 firmware, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/21/try-psp-digital-comics-with-these-free-codes/">PlayStation released comic samples</a> of <em>Transformers: All Hail Megatron </em>and <em>Aleister Arcane.</em><br />
<br />
Free sample first-issues of <em>Star Trek: Enterprise Experiment</em> and <em>Astro Boy: The Movie Adaptation</em> are available until December 16. In order to grab your sample, make sure to first download the Comic App via the "Extras" section of the XMB (or through <a href="http://www.playstationcomics.com/">this link</a>) for your PSP and use the redemption codes available on PlayStation's UK blog. Then prepare to use your <em>amazing </em>3D hardware to ... read!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/28/still-undecided-here-are-some-more-psp-digital-comic-samplers/">Still undecided? Paramount has <a href="http://bhimpact.gamespress.com/release.asp?i=446">announced</a> that a free update is now available for the Xbox 360 version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-dac"><em>Star Trek D-A-C</em></a>. The update adds two new ships to the game, the missile cruiser and the support frigate. <br /><br />The missile cruiser packs heavy, long range attacks, while the support frigate can heal friendly units and destroy escape pods. A new single-player survival mode has also been added as well. The online portion has been updated with more options, like configuring bot AI and the number of points needed to win.<br /> <br /> Probably the most important addition, however, is host migration. This will automatically switch hosts if the current host decides to quit -- rather than simply dropping everyone from the game. Considering we were <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/13/x3f-tv-xbla-in-brief-texas-cheat-em-star-trek-d-a-c/">dropped several times</a> even in the trial version, that's probably a good addition.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-d-a-c-survival-mode/">Star Trek D-A-C Survival Mode</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-d-a-c-survival-mode/#2482265"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/survivalmode01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-d-a-c-survival-mode/#2482266"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/survivalmode05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-d-a-c-survival-mode/#2482267"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/survivalmode06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/star-trek-d-a-c-gets-new-ships-modes-major-online-fix/">Star Trek D-A-C gets new ships, modes, major online fix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Nov 2009 15:20:00 EST. Still, you don't have to have a Ph.D. in Klingon-Starfleet relations to appreciate the gargantuan space battles featured in the video. You just have to have <em>eyes</em>. We suppose an appreciation for lasers helps, too.<br />

In addition to the moving pictures, Atari has released a batch of new stills, as well, which we've tossed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-11-24-09/2479160/">into the gallery below</a>. Paramount has <a href="http://www.transgaming.com/news/?id=127">announced</a> that it's bringing the downloadable <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-dac"><em>Star Trek D-A-C</em></a> -- based on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/new-movie-themed-elite-bundles-for-the-uk/">recent film</a> -- to the Mac. The game will be released with the help of TransGaming, meaning it will utilize <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cider">Cider</a>, software that allows PC games to be run on Macs. In other words, your hopes of experiencing the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/05/13/x3f-tv-xbla-in-brief-texas-cheat-em-star-trek-d-a-c/">mediocrity</a> of <em>Star Trek D-A-C</em> in an Apple native format have just been dashed. Sorry.<br />
<br />
The game is scheduled to launch this December and is currently <a href="http://www.gametreeonline.com/paramount/star-trek-dac/">available for pre-order</a> at GameTree Online.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/20/star-trek-d-a-c-coming-to-m-a-c/">Star Trek D-A-C coming to M-A-C</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Nov 2009 04:00:00 EST. <em>Star Trek Online</em> officially beams into retail on February 2, 2010, keeping in line with what an unearthed Atari <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/atari-believes-star-trek-online-will-boldly-get-going-by-march-2/">financial document</a> expected last May. Players will boldly enter 2409 and continue "the story of the latest film installment," according to the <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/atari-to-ship-star-trek-online-on-february-2-2010-69570117.html">press release</a>. Huh, and here we thought it took place after the <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/startreknemesis?q=star%20trek%20nemesis">poorly-received</a> <em>Nemesis</em> and not the "latest" <em>Star Trek</em> movie, which was actually the <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/startrek2009?q=star%20trek">acclaimed</a> reboot. <br /><br />We contacted Atari to find out which layer of the sci-fi series' multiverse we'll be playing in and a representative apologized for the confusion, saying , "Events in the movie that happened in the prime timeline -- the destruction of Romulus, and the disappearance of Spock and Nero -- have affected <em>STO</em>. You can learn more about the aftermath of these events in the <a href="http://www.startrekonline.com/timeline/2384">Path to 2409</a> and in <em>STO</em> itself."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/09/star-trek-online-shipping-on-stardate-63554-5-feb-2-2010/">Star Trek Online shipping on Stardate 63554.5 (Feb. 2, 2010)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 16:00:00 EST. The trailer -- handily embedded above -- is comprised mostly of pitched space battles and ground encounters. It's also packed with more phaser and disruptor beams than you can shake a tribble at. One more thing: Borg cube.<br /> <br /> After the break, see part two of "The Future Past," which details the outcome of the Klingon / Nausicaan / Gorn war. In short, the Klingons are pretty much bad guys again by 2409, the year in which <em>Star Trek Online</em> begins.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/03/set-course-for-new-star-trek-online-gameplay-footage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Set course for new Star Trek Online gameplay footage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/03/set-course-for-new-star-trek-online-gameplay-footage/">Set course for new Star Trek Online gameplay footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 23:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/star_trek_and_transformers_xbox_360_bundles_incoming.html">VideoGamer.com</a> is reporting that a supplement in this week's issue of <em>MCV</em> is advertising two new Xbox 360 Elite bundles. Both bundles are themed around recent movie releases, specifically <em>Star Trek</em> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/transformers-2"><em>Transformers 2</em></a>. The <em>Star Trek</em> bundle comes with an extra controller, a copy of J.J. Abrams' <em>Star Trek</em> stored on a USB drive -- shaped like the Star Fleet logo -- as well as 800<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> with which to buy "<em>Star Trek PDLC</em>." Let's just hope you don't <em>have</em> to waste those points on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-dac"><em>Star Trek D-A-C</em></a>. A <em>Transformers 2</em> bundle is in the works as well, featuring an extra controller, a copy of the movie on a Bumblebee-shaped USB drive and the <em>Transformers 2</em> game.<br /> <br /> Release date, pricing, and the size of the included hard drive (120GB or "Super Elite" 250GB) are not specified in the ad. However, as <em>MCV</em> is a UK magazine, it's possible these are <em>only</em> destined for that region. We'd be hard-pressed to tell potential buyers which one bundle is the better but, but we <em>will</em> say that only one of them goes <em>where no one has gone before</em>. And the other one is <em>Transformers</em>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/29/new-movie-themed-elite-bundles-for-the-uk/">New movie-themed Elite bundles for the UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Oct 2009 06:00:00 EST. Cryptic executive producer Craig Zinkievich has confirmed with <a href="http://www.videogamer.com/news/cryptic_confirms_sto_out_first_quarter_of_2010.html">Videogamer</a> that the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a> is set to launch during the first quarter of next year -- which falls in line with an Atari document <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/29/atari-believes-star-trek-online-will-boldly-get-going-by-march-2/">we reported on</a> back in May. Zinkievich also confirmed that Cryptic will soon offer gamers a taste of the experience to come, stating that the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/04/register-to-beam-aboard-the-star-trek-online-closed-beta/">closed beta</a> is "right around the corner."<br /><br />Though Videogamer set its phaser to "pester," Zinkievich wouldn't budge on any details about release date beyond the quoted Q1 2010 placeholder, citing that he would receive the full wrath of the marketing department should he crack. We'd like to imagine said department being full of Klingons, but we all know <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardassian">Cardassians</a> really make the best marketers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/19/star-trek-online-engaging-retail-q1-2010-beta-around-the-corne/">Star Trek Online engaging retail Q1 2010, beta 'around the corner'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Oct 2009 16:30:00 EST. The game is set to take place after the final <em>Next Generation</em> film, <em>Star Trek Nemesis</em>. Unless you're pretty up on your <em>Trek</em> lore, that's really all you need to know. For the rest of us, the video goes into thick detail about the various conflicts that follow, leading up to a massive war between Klingons, Romulans, the Gorn and Nausicaans.<br /> <br /> Don't worry if you don't know your Dyson spheres from your Crystalline entities, as there are plenty of space battles and explosions in there, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/17/video-a-star-trek-online-history-lesson/">Video: A Star Trek Online history lesson</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 17 Oct 2009 00:00:00 EST. The folks at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cryptic-studios">Cryptic</a> have released some new screens of the upcoming <em>Star Trek Online</em>, and let's just say that <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locutus">Locutus</a> fans should be pretty pumped. That's right, we finally get to take a look at the Borg (sounds Swedish ...) as they appear in the game. We can't help but imagine actually playing as a member of the Borg collective in the game, though that might be just a tad unfair to the rest of the organic exploring the virtual universe.<br />
<br />
The screens also show off some of the spacecraft available in the game. Peruse them all in the gallery below. It's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistance_is_futile">not like you have a choice</a> in the matter.<br />

Do you want to die a whole lot during your first interstellar excursion in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-trek-online"><em>Star Trek Online</em></a><em>?</em> If not, we'd advise you not to dress yourself in the lowly, crimson vestments of a Starfleet security officer -- or, as they've appropriately been nicknamed, "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshirt_(character)">Redshirts</a>." It's a well known fact that most hostile extraterrestrials are bull-like in their profound hatred for the hue. Strangely enough, these same adversaries are placated by the garments of a Starfleet Admiral, inspiring them to give long soliloquies instead of, you know, <em>murdering people</em>.<br /> <br /> If the latter clothing choice sounds more in your wheelhouse, you'll be happy to know that a Starfleet Admiral outfit is being offered as a <em>Star Trek Online</em> bonus for purchasers of <em>Star Trek: The Original Series Season 3</em> on Blu-ray, according to <a href="http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Star-Trek-Seasons-2-and-3/12728">TVShowsOnDVD.com</a>. Not only do you get sweet duds for your character when the game drops in early 2010, but the television episodes will allow you to brush up on other important pieces of <em>Star Trek</em> errata. For instance, you should <em>never</em> hug a Klingon -- or Vulcans, for that matter. In fact, just keep those deep space hugs to yourself, okay?<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-7-30-09/">Star Trek Online (7-30-09)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-7-30-09/#2176186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25068sto_012909_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25068sto_012909_01" title="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25068sto_012909_01" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-7-30-09/#2176187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25069sto_012909_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25069sto_012909_02" title="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25069sto_012909_02" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-7-30-09/#2176188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25070sto_012909_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25070sto_012909_03" title="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25070sto_012909_03" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-7-30-09/#2176189"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25071sto_012909_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25071sto_012909_04" title="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25071sto_012909_04" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/star-trek-online-7-30-09/#2176190"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25072sto_012909_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25072sto_012909_05" title="star_trek_online-pcscreenshots25072sto_012909_05" /></a></div><br /> [Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/09/27/star-trek-online-bonus-in-upcoming-trek-blu-ray-release/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/star-trek-season-3-blu-ray-includes-star-trek-online-bonus-costu/">Star Trek Season 3 Blu-ray includes Star Trek Online bonus costume</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 15:42:00 EST.
