Sure, many Bothans developers lost their lives jobs, but The Force Unleashed has gone on to sell 1.5 million units worldwide in less than a week, making it the fastest-selling Star Wars game of all time. The figures are based on the first five days of sales across all platforms the game is available on. LucasArts states it shipped more than 4.3 million copies of the game globally, but the demand now requires more units to be manufactured.

Although reviews of the game have been fairly mixed, strong initial sales seem to have been foretold by the game's record-setting demo downloads and, uh, book sales.

Game Crazy stores will be holding Star Wars costume parties next Monday between 8PM-1AM to celebrate the midnight launch of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Those in attendance voted to have the best costumes by a jury of their peers will be able to play the game starting at 10PM at the store, before it officially goes on sale at midnight. The person voted to have the best costume will win "one of 750 limited edition" Force Unleashed dolls action figures.

Those who don't want to get dressed up now know where to buy the game at midnight if they're so inclined.

Today is the day our Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo hopes and dreams finally come true. Because today is the day the 904MB Force Unleashed demo releases to the Xbox Live Marketplace for all to enjoy, that is if you're packing enough HDD space and are connected to Live. If both conditions are true for you then you'll be unleashing the force in the TIE Fighter Construction Facility in no time. LucasArts released a fancy new trailer for The Force Unleashed and, although many of the people who made it aren't working at the company anymore, the empire must march on to get ready for the Sept 16 launch.

Feel free to peruse our hands-on impressions of several versions of the game (Wii, PSP/PS2, DS) after you've checked out the trailer featuring -- what we're guessing, by the looks of it -- is the PS3/Xbox 360 version of the title. Folks have been watching the console version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed because it looks like it's going to be the benchmark for kicking ass with The Force in video games. The DS version hasn't received much focus in the discussion revolving around the game, so little has been said on exactly what DS owners should expect from the handheld title. That is, until now.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will supposedly employ a third-person perspective when playing the game, much like the console versions, but there will be 2D animated cutscenes instead of the highly-detailed snippets found in the game for consoles. Moving your character around will be handled with the d-pad, while interacting with the game will be handled primarily with the stylus. Also, there will be a multiplayer mode allowing for up to four players to enjoy over wireless, though further details on that are not currently available.

Sounds good to us, we hope the control scheme can be pulled off. We'd like to be able to kick ass with The Force outside the comfort of our own home, as well as within in.

Fresh from GDC08 are a few videos for the upcoming, and looking awesome, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from LucasArts. The first video is a trailer titled Raxus and showcases the beautiful environments and combat that have been touted as the best thing seen from a Star Wars license since Knights of the Old Republic. The second video, embedded after the jump, is a compilation of gameplay from the floor that literally has us picking our jaws up off the ground. Force pushing trees and knocking them down? Chopping trees down with a lightsaber throw? Do want. Check them out and may the force be with you. Yeah that line was really forced. Ha, pun.

Question. What do you get when you mix the powerful Havoc physics engine, the Euphoria AI engine and a pinch of digital molecular matter technology? Well, in Lucas Arts' case, you get a game that goes by the name of Star Wars: Force Unleashed and its freakin' amazing gameplay.

Embedded above is a a tech demo video where you can witness how Force Unleashed masterly blends each engine, each program and each effect into one cohesive gameplay experience. It's crazy cool. It's crazy crazy. It'll make your jaw drop. Watch as glass shatters, AI grabs onto the nearest object when lifted into the air and you'll see the entire environment breaks at its seams. Just watch and be awe-struck.

Star Wars games are a difficult breed. The franchise has spawned shooters, side-scrolling action games, arcade games, RPGs, and even chess. The games range from good (KOTOR, Super Star Wars) to decent (Battlefront) to mediocre or just plain awful (Revenge of the Sith). One thing that's pretty clear though, there hasn't really been a good Star Wars action game since the Super NES days (unless you count LEGO Star Wars). LucasArts looks to change all that with Star Wars: Force Unleashed. A new video showcasing the game's characters and the technology used to create them has just been released, and it gives a behind-the-scenes look at the game that bridges the gap between Episode III and Episode IV. If LucasArts has put as much work into the gameplay as they have into the characters and storyline, we may be in luck. A word of warning though, Force Unleashed does feature a plucky comic sidekick. Other than the grim possibilities that might present, things are looking up.

If it's one thing that everyone has been dying for since the unveiling of the Wiimote, it's a genuine Star Wars experience. You know, with the Wiimote acting as a lightsaber, allowing us all to be the Star Wars Kid in the privacy of our own living rooms. Well, maybe Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is just what the doctor ordered.

Releasing in spring, the game will allow players to wield the Wiimote as a lightsaber and use the nunchuk to activate Force powers. The Wii version will be developed by Krome Studios and feature a Wii-exclusive duel mode, where friends can go head-to-head.
