It's not just stormtroopers and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-force-unleashed-tops-the-charts-in-hardcover-fiction/">trees</a> that have been splintered by <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em>, but download records as well. LucasArts announced that the game's Xbox Live demo has force choked download records for the service, surpassing a million downloads in just eight days following its August debut -- a feat one day better than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/too-human-goes-gold-900k-downloaded-demo/">the previous record</a> according to the company. <br /><br />Boasting further, LucasArts adds that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/17/the-force-unleashed-demo-coming-thursday-to-xblm-and-psn/">together with the game's PSN demo</a>,<em> The Force Unleashed</em> appetizer has been downloaded more than 2.3 million times worldwide. Most impressive, though we wonder how many people gave up their place in line camped out waiting for the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/the-force-unleashed-unleashed-on-september-16/">September 16 release</a> in order to actually try it out.<br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-force-unleashed-demo-breaks-xblm-download-record/">The Force Unleashed demo breaks XBLM download record</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 20:30:00 EST. Not only is it a line any self-respecting nerd will recognize instantly, it's also the basis for many a successful video game from days gone by. It all started in 1993 with Lucasarts' <em>X-Wing</em>, which brought <em>Star Wars</em> to PC gamers in a big way. For the first time, they were really in the cockpit, fighting the Empire in glorious (by 1993 standards) 3D. However, it was the 1994 follow-up, <em>TIE Fighter</em>, that refined the flight-sim, Rebel-hunting gameplay to a buttery smooth degree of excellence. Well over a decade later, <em>TIE Fighter</em> still finds itself on many "Best of" lists. On the console side of things, however, it's an entirely different series that drew inspiration from the mighty X-Wing.<br /><br /><em>Star Wars: Rogue Squadron</em> on the Nintendo 64 took players outside the cockpit (at least, by default) of the beloved X-Wing, but still placed them in control of the craft, offering an experience that was more shooter and less sim than the successful PC games. However, it was the superior <em>Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II</em>, released in 2001 with the launch of the GameCube, that brought the spirit of the X-Wing to consoles. Developer Factor 5 and Lucasarts also collaborated on a third entry in the series, <em>Rebel Strike</em>, which lacked the "wow" factor <em>Rogue Leader</em> had in 2001, but did little to harm the good name of the trilogy. Now, nearly five years later, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/factor-5">Factor 5</a> has been off doing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lair/">other things</a>, when they really should've been working on a new entry in a series that may just have been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/born-for-wii/">Born for Wii</a>.<br />

The series returns today with the crackle of blaster fire, the hum of a recently activated AT-AT, the whistle of an armed thermal detonator -- you see, all the games <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/35435.html?type=mov">featured in this episode</a> focus on those titles that let you relive the film's major battles. From RTS classics like <em>Galactic Battlegrounds</em> and <em>Empire at War</em>, to the best-selling Star Wars game of all time, <em>Star Wars: Battlefront 2</em>, we can't help but get misty-eyed recalling some of our great galactic campaigns. At the Nintendo Media Summit, LucasArts showed off the Wii-only duel mode in its multi-platform game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/theforceunleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. These fights require two human players -- there's no AI option -- but otherwise feel almost like they could have shipped as a stand-alone game. I swung sabers against fellow writers and was impressed by the amount of depth in the matches.<br />
<br />
Each player picks one of 27 characters -- including about 11 costume-variations on the single-player apprentice -- and the fights take place in nine Star Wars locations. The characters include a young Luke, Darth Maul, General Grievous, and others that don't related to <em>The Force</em> story. And their moves are all about the same as in the single-player game, so Luke uses the lightning strike alongside the "dark" characters.<br />
<br />
The match locations impact the the fights, with players instantly losing a life if they fall into the sarlacc pit, <em>Smash Bros.</em>-style. Otherwise, Hoth, the Jedi temple, and other locations include objects to toss around at each other, giving each location subtle differences.<br />
<br />
These setting, and deep attacks, counter-attacks, and blocks should add a lot of ways to play these match-ups. This variety makes me anticipate its September 16 release. Plus there's a whole other single-player story to beat.<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/force-unleashed/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> is hitting the PSP this coming September 16. In case you didn't hear about it yesterday over on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-unleashes-on-sept-16/">PS3 Fanboy</a>, <em>Force Unleashed</em> lets players run amok as Darth Vader's secret apprentice. That means feel free to kill any and all younglings your dark heart so desires.<br /><br />The PSP version of <em>Force Unleashed </em>is not being developed by LucasArts but is under the care of Krome Studios. The portable version will also not be featuring the Digital Molecular Matter and Euphoria engines that make the PS3 version so life-like; however, it will include exclusive levels. Expect this title to ship out to Southeast Asia and Australia by Sept. 17, and Europe on Sept. 19. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-on-psp-by-sept-16/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on PSP by Sept. 16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. Well, folks, we finally have a date for when the gates to a paradise of exploiting Force powers in a video game will open: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a> will release on September 16th in North America. Hot on the heels of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/details-unleashed-for-wii-version-of-the-force-unleashed/">yesterday's big reveal on the Wii version of the game</a>, you can imagine we're pretty pumped for this. September? Can't get here soon enough.<br /><br />But, wait, there's more. While those of us in North America are getting the game on September 16th, it will arrive in Southeast Asia and Australia on September 17th and release in Europe on September 19th. Pretty sweet, eh? For once, you don't have to wait a ridiculously long time for something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/the-force-gets-unleashed-on-september-16th/">The Force gets unleashed on September 16th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. After the strain induced by writing such a complex and infinitely witty headline, we think it would be best to stay on target for the rest of the post and merely deliver the facts. LucasArts has announced that its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/26/the-three-physics-engines-of-the-force-unleashed/">physics-based</a> jedi sim, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>, will arrive on September 16th in the United States, September 17th in Southeast Asia and Australia, and September 19th in Europe. That's the plan and, given our anticipation for the title, we can only pray the publisher doesn't alter it any further.<br />
<br />
Developed internally for the Xbox 360 and PS3, <em>The Force Unleashed</em> has players becoming Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and, as the title vaguely alludes to, <em>unleashing the force</em>. Other "equally enthralling" versions of the game releasing on the same date include the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/the-force-unleashed-for-wii-gets-exclusive-content/">Krome Studios-developed</a> Wii, PS2 and PSP titles, as well as a DS game from n-Space. You'll be able to spot exclusive footage on SpikeTV this month, but rather than subjecting you to watching it for hours on end, we've posted a schedule of the game's appearances after the break.<br />

GamePro had some time to check out the Wii version of upcoming Lucasarts game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-lets-you-go-nuts-with-the-carnage/"><em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em></a>. During their time with it, they managed to sink their teeth into the robust PVP aspect (called Duel Mode, it allows for one-on-one combat between 27 different characters from the <em>Star Wars</em> universe) of the game, as well as provide details on how the motion controls will work. They even took time to compare the two versions of the game graphically, showing the difference in character detail and textures between them. But, who cares about graphics? The controls are where it's at, right?<br /><br />For the chart containing the game's controls on Wii, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/force_unleashed_controls_lg.jpg">click here</a> or head past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/details-unleashed-for-wii-version-of-the-force-unleashed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Details unleashed for Wii version of The Force Unleashed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/details-unleashed-for-wii-version-of-the-force-unleashed/">Details unleashed for Wii version of The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 16:00:00 EST. It's also nice to see a little more <a href="http://landogivesbirth.ytmnd.com/">Lando</a> -- considering the next episode's progression to the games based on the newer films, it'll probably be the last we see of him for a while.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/30/the-star-wars-retrospective-episode-ii/">The Star Wars Retrospective: Episode II</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 30 Mar 2008 12:00:00 EST. 1UP recently added some fuel cells to the fire of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/rumor-biowares-mystery-mmo-based-on-kotor/">relatively aged rumor</a> that the result of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/lucasarts-bioware-collaborating-on-something/">Bioware and LucasArts' recent collaboration</a> is an MMORPG which takes place in the long-winded universe of <em>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic</em>. While one could make a case <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/bioware-mmo-planned-for-2009/">for</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/rumor-bioware-not-involved-with-star-wars-mmo/">against</a> this claim, <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3166834">a script for the game, which apparently landed in the laps</a> of 1UP's digital ink slingers, could prove conclusive evidence for the online epic -- if it's completely legit, that is.<br /><br />The script details the online game as a "role-playing game set in the historical past of the Star Wars universe," where "Jedi and Sith battle across the galaxy." While those two phrases could apply to many chapters of the Star Wars mythos, the tipster who submitted the script was convinced it carried Bioware's trademark verbosity. We're confused -- how will we be expected to spend hours mindlessly grinding and spawn camping with all of that dialog getting in our way? Hopefully they'll fix that in beta.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.massively.com/2008/03/07/1up-thinks-the-force-is-with-the-bioware-mmo-again/">Massively</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/08/rumor-further-evidence-of-star-wars-kotor-mmo-discovered/">Rumor: Further evidence of Star Wars: KOTOR MMO discovered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Mar 2008 15:00:00 EST. <strong>Update</strong>: EA has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/14/ea-responds-to-bioware-kotor-mmo-rumor/">responded</a> to this post, saying their report does not actually confirm the existence of a Bioware <em>KOTOR</em> MMO. Original post below: <br /><br />After a brief stint with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Knights_of_the_Old_Republic_II_The_Sith_Lords">Obsidian Entertainment in 2004</a>, the <em>Star Wars: Kuhniggets of the Old Republic</em> franchise is set to return to the folks at BioWare. So says an EA investor report (yes, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/pandemic-studios-developing-new-lord-of-the-rings-game/">that one</a>) which listed the game amongst BioWare's multiple ongoing projects. Mind you, it's listed simply as "KOTOR," so there's a small chance that the studio is actually working on <em>Kleptomaniac on the Origami Recliner</em>. That doesn't sound like something you'd <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/lucasarts-bioware-collaborating-on-something/">collaborate with LucasArts</a> on, though ...<br /><br />While it doesn't preclude the possibility of the company working on more than one online game (or more than one <em>KOTOR</em> title), the separate listing of "new MMO" in the same report does cast some doubt on earlier <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/rumor-biowares-mystery-mmo-based-on-kotor/">KOTOR rumors</a>. We'd prefer a single-player adventure over online organic meatbaggery, but perhaps you feel otherwise.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/13/knights-of-the-old-republic-back-in-biowares-hands/">Knights of the Old Republic (not necessarily) back in BioWare's hands</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Feb 2008 10:40:00 EST. Laugh all you want, but it's a big deal when a magazine as mainstream as <em>Vanity Fair</em> <a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2008/03/lucas200803">dedicates a sizable chunk of content</a> to legitimate game coverage. <em>VF</em> writer Frank DiGiacomo visited Skywalker Ranch to take a look at the upcoming <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em>, and walked away impressed with nearly everything he saw.<br /><br />In a massive 4,000-word feature, DiGiacomo covers everything there is to know thus far about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/theforceunleashed"><em>The Force Unleashed</em></a>, from the game's storyline, to its advanced use of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/26/the-three-physics-engines-of-the-force-unleashed/">three different physics engines</a>, to the people hard at work developing it. Though lengthy, the article is a must-read for anyone following the development of the latest <em>Star Wars</em> title, or anyone curious to watch <em>Vanity Fair</em> up the ante for mainstream game journalists.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/vanity-fair-covers-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/">Vanity Fair covers Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 21:30:00 EST. A combination of two things that just don't need to be combined like this hasn't been seen since someone decided to combine eggs and oil (we're not a fan of the mayonnaise, to be honest). We're not saying its a bad tattoo (well, maybe we are), but we like our <em>Star Wars</em> without plumbers (unless it's a funny skit about Mario cleaning the stalls in the Death Star bathrooms or something) and we like our Goomba-stomping Mario without the epic conflict of good and evil (man against beast goes down so much smoother for us).<br /><br />Actually, to tell the truth, we're surprised our minds haven't been blown so much that we forgot how to even post this to the blog.<br /><br /><strong>See also: </strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/31/irresponsible-kids-express-their-love-for-each-other-live-to-re/">Irresponsible kids express their love for each other, live to regret it</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/04/the-force-is-strong-with-this-plumber/">'The Force is strong with this plumber'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Feb 2008 11:15:00 EST. Upon its inception, <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> has been a title mostly about displaying the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/developer-diaries-unleashed/">destructive power</a> of the force and explaining the origins of Darth Vader's apprentice. Oh, and there has been the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/18/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-coming-to-the-wii/">dream of every fanboy</a> to wield the Wiimote as a lightsaber.<br /><br />Now, it turns out there is more incentive for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/wii-light-sword-lets-you-relive-the-shame-of-the-star-wars-kid/">Wiimote-swinging wannabes</a> as it's been revealed by <span class="text_article_body">Krome Studios' Ed Tucker that the title will have five exclusive levels on the Wii. </span><span class="text_article_body">"On the Wii we have places where the story veers off and we go and explore something, take the game in a different direction, like the Jedi Temple level," he explains.<br /><br />Wii owners looking to lose control with the Force can look forward to that come this August when the title releases.<br /></span><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/the-force-unleashed-for-wii-gets-exclusive-content/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/star-wars-unleashes-wii-specific-features/">Star Wars unleashes Wii-specific features?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Jan 2008 22:30:00 EST. Is it April already? A quick glance at our calendars confirms that it's still January, and an extended glance at <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165334">1UP's reveal</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SoulCaliburIV/">Soul Calibur IV</a>'</em>s secret characters does nothing to evaporate the reigning feeling of utter confusion. The lineup of saucer-eyed assassins, scantily clad combatants and bizarre pain fetishists in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Namco/">Namco</a>'s anticipated fighter is set to be joined by the Sith's darkest lord and the Force's most diminutive master. Our little green friend can almost manage to fit in to <em>Soul Calibur</em>'s ye olde fantasy trappings, but poor ol' Vader appears to have gotten lost and disoriented after leaping over some sharks on his <em>space jet ski</em>.<br /><br />Even better news can be found in 1UP's suspicion that even more Star Wars characters will waltz into <em>Calibur</em>'s cantina, possibly via downloadable content. An interesting idea, but we reckon you'd save money by simply buying a copy of <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Masters_of_Ter%C3%A4s_K%C3%A4si">Masters of Ter&auml;s K&auml;si</a></em> off eBay.<br /><br /><strong>Update: </strong><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6184530.html?action=convert&amp;om_clk=latestnews&amp;tag=latestnews;title;0">Gamespot</a> reports that Darth Vader is reserved for the PlayStation 3, while Yoda will be included in the Xbox 360 version.<br /><br />[Thanks, Antonio]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/soul-calibur-ivs-secret-characters-darth-vader-and-yoda/">Soul Calibur IV's secret characters: Darth Vader and Yoda</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jan 2008 18:00:00 EST. That's the 2003 role-playing game and not <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotor">the town in Montenegro</a>, mind you. While an MMO based on the beautiful coastal establishment of Kotor would indeed be a unique and thoroughly refreshing prospect, we don't fancy its chances against <em>World of Warcraft</em>. The Star Wars brand and universe, however, might fare better -- as long as it's not <em>Galaxies</em>. Instead, it'll be <em>Knights of the Old Republic</em>, according to <a href="http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/10/19/biowares-upcoming-mmo-based-in-kotor-universe/">Primotech</a>.<br /><br />Citing a "source close to BioWare," Alex Petraglia reports that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioware">BioWare</a>'s mystery MMO -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/bioware-mmo-planned-for-2009/">due in 2009</a> and reliant on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/bioware-picks-up-streambase-engine-for-mmo/">Streambase</a> technology -- will be set in the universe established by the critically acclaimed <em>Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic</em> series of role-playing games. The first was developed by BioWare, while the second arrived courtesy of Obsidian Entertainment. The first title especially was hailed for its engaging plot, substantial characterization and general <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HK-47">hostility</a> towards <em>organic meatbags</em>. In other words, an exemplary single-player experience.<br /><br />An important question then (besides "Is this for real?"), is "How do you translate that to an MMO?" The cynical answer, of course, is "You don't. You make <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com"><em>World of Warcraft</em></a> with lightsabers." More questions are raised when considering EA's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/ea-to-acquire-bioware-corp-and-pandemic-studios/">recent acquisition</a> of BioWare -- would that not create some publishing intricacies for a game only expected in 2009? The central group in such a deal would be LucasArts, but alas, "LucasArts doesn't comment on rumors or speculation." Oh, but<em> you</em> can, dear reader.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/rumor-biowares-mystery-mmo-based-on-kotor/">Rumor: BioWare's mystery MMO based on KOTOR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Oct 2007 21:00:00 EST. <p><em>Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/revolutionary/">REVOLUTIONARY</a>, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities. </em><br /></p>
<p>Ever since the motion sensing ability of the Wiimote was revealed, Star Wars fans have been pleading for a game that would let them live out their Jedi fantasies, swinging the Wiimote in command of an onscreen light saber. Well, Lucasarts recently announced that the Wii will be getting a version of the multiplatform title, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/18/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-coming-to-the-wii/">The Force Unleashed</a></em>, a game that's expected to fulfill all your fantasies of being an power-infused enforcer with a luminous sword.</p>
<p>But Lucas &amp; Co. haven't always given us just what we want. In 1999 they released the first chapter of the long-awaited <em>Star Wars </em>prequel trilogy, <em>The Phantom Menace</em>, to an audience that was expecting something more, well ... <em>Star Wars-y</em>. Jar Jar, midichlorians, and a pre-pubescent, mop-topped future-fascist didn't quite make for the hit we were hoping for, and the most exciting moment in the film was not a war or a fight scene, but <a target="_blank" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUsltuNO6l8">a race</a>. Lucasarts seemed to agree and developed a game based around that scene (albeit, filled out with more tracks and worlds). In this week's Revolutionary, we'll be using <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/revolutionary-introducing-glovepie/">GlovePIE</a> to see if the Wiimote and Nunchuk can keep up with the Jedi-like reflexes you'll need to stay in the lead in <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/sw1racer/racerdemo.exe.html">Star Wars: Episode I Racer</a></em>.<br /></p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/revolutionary-this-is-not-the-star-wars-youre-looking-for/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: This is Not the Star Wars You're Looking For</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/revolutionary-this-is-not-the-star-wars-youre-looking-for/">Revolutionary: This is Not the Star Wars You're Looking For</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Oct 2007 13:30:00 EST. And, the developers behind the title, Traveller's Tales, are taking this seriously, as they rebuilt the game from the ground up, rather than recycling the first game's engine.<br /><br />In giving the game a play, Joystiq found that the title was not only impressive from a graphical standpoint, but also found the controls to be adequate. They're of the mind that the game should satisfy fans come the title's launch on November 6th.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-1/">Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-1/#417355"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/lsw_jedi_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-1/#417354"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/lsw_group_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-1/#417353"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/lsw_ds_sith_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-1/#417352"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/legoswtcs_nds3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-complete-saga-1/#417351"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/legoswtcs_nds2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/joystiq-gets-their-hands-on-lego-star-wars-complete-saga/">Joystiq gets their hands on Lego Star Wars: Complete Saga</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Sep 2007 11:30:00 EST. The company tried to remain positive -- or at the very least, civil -- about the previous DS <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/legostarwars2theoriginaltrilogy">bomb</a>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy</span>. But this showing was clearly to prove to journalists that the DS version of the new game won't follow the murky fate of its predecessor. <br /><br />Lego Star Wars creator, Traveller's Tales redeveloped the game for the DS instead of re-using the old DS engine, and it shows. The new game more closely resembles <span style="font-style: italic;">LSW</span> on other consoles. In my brief play session, I was impressed with the top-screen 3D graphics; <span style="font-style: italic;">LSW Complete</span> could be the graphical leader for 3D DS games with its November 6 launch.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/">Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/#416028"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/legoswtcs_nds3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/#416027"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/lsw_ds_sith_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/#416026"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/lsw_pilot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/#416025"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/legoswtcs_nds1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/#416024"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/lsw_group_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/joystiq-impressions-lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (DS)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/joystiq-impressions-lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-ds/">Joystiq impressions: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (DS)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 15:30:00 EST. The official website for <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> has dished a pair of developer diaries for the game. Focused on the motion-capturing aspects bringing drama into the game and coming up with the premise for the title, each of the behind-the-scenes looks at the game have gotten us drooling for what this title is all about. <br /><br />Who doesn't want to "kick ass with The Force?"<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=172662">CVG</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/developer-diaries-unleashed/">Developer diaries unleashed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 12:45:00 EST. The franchise has spawned shooters, side-scrolling action games, arcade games, RPGs, and even <a href="http://www.mobygames.com/game/star-wars-chess">chess</a>. The games range from good (<a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/starwarsknightsoftheoldrepublic?q=knights%20of%20the%20old%20republic"><em>KOTOR</em></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Star_Wars"><em>Super Star Wars</em></a>) to decent (<a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/starwarsbattlefront?q=star%20wars%20battlefront"><em>Battlefront</em></a>) to mediocre or just plain awful (<a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/starwarsepisode3revengeofthesith?q=star%20wars%20episode"><em>Revenge of the Sith</em></a>). One thing that's pretty clear though, there hasn't really been a good <em>Star Wars</em> action game since the Super NES days (unless you count <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legostarwars"><em>LEGO Star Wars</em></a>). LucasArts looks to change all that with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/starwarsforceunleashed"><em>Star Wars: Force Unleashed</em></a>. A new <a href="http://gamevideos.com/video/id/14943">video</a> showcasing the game's characters and the technology used to create them has just been released, and it gives a behind-the-scenes look at the game that bridges the gap between <em>Episode III</em> and <em>Episode IV</em>. If LucasArts has put as much work into the gameplay as they have into the characters and storyline, we may be in luck. A word of warning though, <em>Force Unleashed</em> does feature a plucky comic sidekick. Other than the grim possibilities that might present, things are looking up.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/video-new-star-wars-force-unleashed-details/">Video: new Star Wars: Force Unleashed details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Sep 2007 17:00:00 EST. Ever since the Wii came out, people have been wondering when there would be a <em>Star Wars</em> game for the system that lets you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/lucasarts-has-wii-lightsabers-expect-games-this-fall/">wield your Wii-mote like a lightsaber</a>. Well, the wait is nearly over you malevolent gamers. LucasArts <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=172278">announced recently</a> that <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> will bring the dichotomy of lightsaber-wielding, arm-lopping, head-chopping violence to the cuddly and playful Wii.<br /><br />It's not known yet how the Wii-mote will integrate into <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/joystiq-impressions-star-wars-the-force-unleashed/">the game</a>, which takes place between <em>Revenge of the Sith</em> and <em>A New Hope</em>, but let's hope it's some actual gameplay and not a "shake your lightsaber up and down really fast!" minigame that's been tacked on. Apparently you'll be able to go head-to-head on the Wii, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be with lightsabers. Although if it does ... whoa mama. Let the flailing being.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/18/finally-the-star-wars-lightsaber-game-for-the-wii/">Finally, the Star Wars lightsaber game for the Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Sep 2007 15:28:00 EST. If it's one thing that everyone has been dying for since the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/09/15/its-its-its-the-revolution/">unveiling</a> of the Wiimote, it's a genuine <em>Star Wars</em> experience. You know, with the Wiimote acting as a lightsaber, allowing us all to be the <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=HPPj6viIBmU">Star Wars Kid</a> in the privacy of our own living rooms. Well, maybe <em>Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</em> is just what the doctor ordered.<br /><br />Releasing in spring, the game will allow players to wield the Wiimote as a lightsaber and use the nunchuk to activate Force powers. The Wii version will be developed by Krome Studios and feature a Wii-exclusive duel mode, where friends can go head-to-head.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.codenamerevolution.com/?p=6183">Codename Revolution</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/18/star-wars-the-force-unleashed-coming-to-the-wii/">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed coming to the Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Sep 2007 15:00:00 EST. <p>The <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> blog was recently updated with a video, revealing something your PSP Fanboy writers have known for some time: the cinema sequences in the game are drawn in comic form, akin to the style used in the <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> digital comics. "We knew that our storytelling method would have to be pretty simple, as we didn't have the time or budget for any sort of full-on FMV," Mike Rosser <a href="http://blogs.ign.com/RenegadeSquadron/2007/09/06/65520/">admits</a>.<br /><br />The cinemas look sharp on the small screen, and with voice acting, they certainly feel adequately cinematic. We've been playing the game for the past few weeks, and although we can't reveal too much, we advise you to stay tuned for our impressions.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/07/star-wars-battlefront-uses-comic-style-cinemas/">Star Wars Battlefront uses comic-style cinemas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Sep 2007 17:00:00 EST. <p>The <a href="http://blogs.ign.com/RenegadeSquadron/"><em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> blog</a> on IGN has been updated nearly daily, with more and more videos slowly being released. The game keeps on looking better with each iteration, and we're particularly impressed of this video of Asajj Ventress. Why? The glow of the lightsabers is strangely alluring, with its vividly pulsating aura.</p>

<p>Mike Rosser has once again updated the <em>Star Wars Battlefront</em> blog with new footage of his "new favorite hero character." Robot bounty hunter (the best kind of bounty hunter) IG-88 is loaded with some awesome weaponry, which is on display in this latest vid. "In <em>BF:RS</em>, we've kitted him out with dual blaster rifles, a flamethrower and cluster grenades. And he's pretty deadly, as he should be! I'm also pleased that we managed to work IG-88 into the storyline, so expect some face-offs!" </p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/15/ig-88-on-display-in-star-wars-battlefront/">IG-88 on display in Star Wars Battlefront</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Aug 2007 14:58:00 EST. <p> The basics of the upcoming PSP-exclusive <em>Battlefront</em> are explained in this new <a href="http://media.psp.ign.com/media/905/905515/vids_1.html">IGN video</a>. We're impressed by some of the gameplay choices, such as the intelligently designed lock-on system. The longer you hold the lock-on button, the better your aim will be. While the gameplay looks to be shaping up nicely, we're glad to say that it appears the graphics are also getting better. The framerate has become far more stable -- it looks like the game is actually playable! There's still more time left for development, but we're glad to see the game make such significant strides over the past few weeks.<br /><br />[Thanks, Don!]</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/12/basically-star-wars-has-a-better-framerate/">Basically, Star Wars has a better framerate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Aug 2007 00:30:00 EST.
