Not since the great Christopher Lambert's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTBhgv9RDWs">powerful, moving portrayal</a> of Raiden the thunder god in the film adaptation of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mortal-kombat"><span style="font-style: italic;">Mortal Kombat</span></a> have we been this excited for a new movie based on a fighting game. Having seen the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM7z0zcXWiw">latest trailer </a>for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/29/this-is-actually-the-new-trailer-for-the-street-fighter-movie/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li</span></a>, we think we can safely say that it will leave <span style="font-style: italic;">Mortal Kombat in the dust</span>. It's really got everything, including characters that look <span style="font-style: italic;">absolutely nothing</span> like their in-game counterparts, powerfully cheesy music, wildly exaggerated sound effects <span style="font-style: italic;">and</span> spectacular explosions. And did you see the key chain advertised at the end for only &yen;1,300? We are <span style="font-style: italic;">so</span> getting one of those.<br /><br />If you think you can handle this level of excitement, watch the trailer after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.cubed3.com/news/11536">C3</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/get-pumped-new-legend-of-chun-li-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Get pumped: New Legend of Chun Li trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/28/get-pumped-new-legend-of-chun-li-trailer/">Get pumped: New Legend of Chun Li trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Jan 2009 19:30:00 EST. Finally, footage has been released for the new <em>Street Fighter </em>film, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0891592/">The Legend of Chun-Li</a> in the form of a Japanese movie trailer. When it was originally announced we were worried that Capcom wouldn't learn from the mistakes made by the first - admittedly, rad for all the wrong reasons - flick starring <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000241/">JCVD</a>. Looks like we were right.<br /><br />If you're clicking the jump to watch the trailer for shots of your favorite characters in <em>Street Fighter </em>garb then stop now. None of the characters wear costumes, really. Vega's in there somewhere but he looks kind of sad. In fact, if we were approached in a dark alley and mugged by someone who looked like this version of Vega we'd throw him coin out of pity, not so much out of fear.<br /><br />A while back, Producer Patrick Aiello said in a question/answer post <a href="http://streetfightermovie.net/">on the movie's site</a> that it would be silly to try and replicate the costumes from the game. We guess we understand what he means but instead of giving us <em>some</em> fan service they've decided to scrap it all - except for Chun-Li's hairbuns! You know, if Chris Nolan can make a dude in a rubber suit look cool with fancy camera work and lighting then maybe these cats should try <em>something</em>. Creativity comes to mind.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/30/legend-of-chun-li-trailer-apparently-has-street-fighter-characte/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Legend of Chun-Li trailer apparently has Street Fighter characters in it</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/30/legend-of-chun-li-trailer-apparently-has-street-fighter-characte/">Legend of Chun-Li trailer apparently has Street Fighter characters in it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Dec 2008 11:00:00 EST. There's not much we can say to prepare you for the video after the break (which we carefully extracted from Capcom's TGS DVD). Let's go over the facts: Capcom is making a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Street-Fighter-movie/">Street Fighter movie</a> centered around Chun-Li (played by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kristin-Kreuk/">Smallville's Kristin Kreuk</a>); that movie will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/06/new-street-fighter-movie-by-doom-director/">directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak</a> (who previously helmed DOOM); it will be terrible.<br /><br />"Whoa, whoa, whoa Joystiq!" you exclaim. "Those first two statements are, as you said, facts. But that last statement ... surely that's just your opinion." We appreciate your concern, reader, but the smallest of sneak peaks - really, just a single frame from the film - is enough to convince us. Is Chun Li wearing a mattress?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/12/tgs-08-street-fighter-movie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TGS 08: Street Fighter ... Patrick Aiello, the producer for the upcoming film <em>Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li</em> (starring <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/23/behold-kristin-kreuk-as-chun-li/">Kristin "Lana Lang" Kreuk</a>!), believes <em>Street Fighter IV</em> will launch alongside the film. Aiello tells <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/street-fighter-movie-to-coincide-with-street-fighter-iv-launch/?biz=1">GameDaily</a> that the "film and game release dates will coincide." According to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0891592/">IMDB</a>, the<em> Street Fighter</em> movie currently has a release date of February 27, 2009.<br /><br />Although hardcore <em>Street Fighter</em> fans may be upset that the game isn't coming out at the end of this year as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/27/capcom-confirms-street-fighter-iv-coming-to-pc-xbox-360-ps3/">originally announced</a>, there's always the option of <a href="http://www.eventhubs.com/articles/2008/aug/15/street-fighter-4-arcade-machine-tracker/">playing it in arcades</a> at diverse locations on this little planet.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/">Street Fighter IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/guile_006-252009-37_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/dan_004-252009-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/cviper_001-252009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/balrog_005-252009-49_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/seth_004-252009-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/street-fighter-iv-releasing-alongside-movie-in-2009-says-films/">Street Fighter IV releasing alongside movie in 2009, says film's producer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 12:30:00 EST. Though they're probably not your favorite characters in the Street Fighterverse (that's Zangief, obviously) you probably can't imagine it without the Shake 'n' Bake of urban fisticuffs, Ken and Ryu. So it'll probably come as something of a surprise that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Street%20Fighter%3A%20The%20Legend%20of%20Chun%20Li">Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li</a></em> producer <a href="http://streetfightermovie.net/?p=19">Patrick Aiello says</a> that the duo won't appear in the movie.<br /><br />Official movie blogger Aaron Horwitz attempts do a little damage control, reminding that "Nightcrawler, Pyro and Beast" didn't show up in the first <em>X-Men</em> movie. It's an appropriate comparison as Nightcrawler, Pyro and Beast were the original team of X-Men. Just the three of them ... bamf-ing around, starting fires and being smart. Those we are the X-Men they had back in the 60s and they <em>liked it</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37038">AICN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/11/no-ken-or-ryu-in-the-street-fighter-movie/">No Ken or Ryu in the Street Fighter movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jun 2008 08:30:00 EST.
