Like rummaging through celebrity trash for the latest gossip, it often makes us chuckle as to where new video game news emerges, something only reinforced by last weekend's New York Comic Con. Buried beneath action figures, cosplayers, and that <a href="http://www.cinematical.com/photos/2008-new-york-comic-con/760284/">Super Girl Barbie</a> we absolutely <em>must have</em>, came word of an upcoming sequel to last year's comic-inspired FPS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thedarkness/"><em>The Darkness</em></a>.<br /><br />The news was unleashed during a discussion panel with American comic company and <em>The Darkness</em> publisher TOP COW, during which (according to comic blog The Quarter Bin) it was said: "We can't say <em>Darkness </em>and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, <em>Darkness</em>. Wink. Sequel." While hardly an absolute confirmation, the news is enough to make our stomach rumble with a hunger that <a href="http://video.aol.com/video-detail/the-darkness-heart-eating/2798123350">only hearts</a> will quell.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=51473">WorthPlaying</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/rumor-the-darkness-sequel-looking-likely-after-ny-comic-con-pan/">Rumor: The Darkness sequel looking likely after NY Comic Con panel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Apr 2008 11:44:00 EST. They went rifling through their utility drawer, pushing aside empty light bulb boxes and corn cob holders before they found the AAs they were looking for. But there, underneath them, just to the right of the broken remote for the VHS player ... is that ... a multiplayer map for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=The%20Darkness">The Darkness</a></em>?<br /><br />If that's not how the situation shook out, we have no other explanation. It's months after the game's release and nobody that we know ever really got in to the multiplayer. At least the price for this new map ("DM_Haunt") is right: Free. So, if your <em>Darkness</em> multiplayer menu option hasn't complied shriveled up and fallen off from disuse, feel free to <a href="http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/03/14/marketplace-roundup-for-march-14-2008.aspx">give it a spin</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/17/the-darkness-gets-new-free-multiplayer-map/">The Darkness gets new, free multiplayer map</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 17 Mar 2008 11:15:00 EST. Electronic Arts announced that it is working on a new project with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/"><em>The Darkness</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ChroniclesofRiddick/"><em>Chronicles Of Riddick</em></a> devs <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Starbreeze/">Starbreeze Studios</a> to revisit one of EA's "most acclaimed classic franchises" for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. As for which one, EA's keeping mum, simply dubbing the effort Project RedLime and leaving our imaginations to run wild. <br /><br />Work has apparently been ongoing on Project RedLime for some time, as Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson comments that the team is " already deep in development" on the project. Nothing else, and mean <em>nothing</em>, is known about the mysterious project, though EA notes that more details will be revealed "in the coming months," leading us to hope that this game, whatever form it takes, will be among EA's salvo fired during this year's E3. We're crossing our fingers for <em>James Pond</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/riddick-devs-to-revisit-ea-classic-in-mystery-project/">Riddick devs to revisit EA classic in mystery project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Feb 2008 11:00:00 EST. <strong style="font-style: italic;">Zack &amp; Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure</strong> (Wii)<br />
<br />
Though its puzzles may occasionally infuriate, the real source of frustration regarding<em> Zack &amp; Wiki</em> stems from the fact that <em>nobody bought it</em>. Every year has its share of titles that deserve an audience yet never find one, and in this regard, <em>Zack &amp; Wiki</em> is easily one of the most tragic games to put an uncontrollable smile on your face. Relentlessly charming and beautifully presented, the debut of Capcom's choc-chomping pirate and his simian sidekick challenges the mind and warms that cynical, meh-spouting lump in your chest. How refreshing it was to overcome obstacles and bosses by choosing the power of the mind over an impossibly large bazooka.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/best-of-the-rest-ludwigs-picks-of-2007/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Ludwig's picks of 2007</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/best-of-the-rest-ludwigs-picks-of-2007/">Best of the Rest: Ludwig's picks of 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jan 2008 06:30:00 EST. <strong><em>Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword</em></strong> (PC)<br />
<br />
Please, make the addiction stop! <em>Civilization IV: Warlords</em>, the first expansion for <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ IV,</span> made my "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks/">Best of the Rest</a>" last year and <em>Beyond the Sword</em> tops this year's list. The funny thing is I'm not a <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ</span> fanboy, nor am I even that great of a player (<span style="font-style: italic;">Full Disclosure</span>: I still play on Noble level), but <span style="font-style: italic;">Civ IV</span> is a game I can come back to over and over again. <span style="font-style: italic;">Beyond the Sword</span> added much-needed mechanics for culture-prone and passive-aggressive players, with enhancements in espionage and other concepts "beyond the sword." Oh, and just to keep last year's tradition going: Firaxis (2K, Take-Two), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/12/firaxis-wouldnt-be-against-alpha-centauri-ii/">please get the rights to <em>Alpha Centauri</em></a> back from EA and give us a sequel!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2007/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2007</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-alexanders-picks-of-2007/">Best of the Rest: Alexander's Picks of 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jan 2008 22:30:00 EST. I also dabbed into the multiplayer portion of The Darkness, and scored some Achievements in that, as well as finally getting some overdue ones in the game's single player story. All of this and more can be found after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/12/x3f-achievements-101-of-ninjas-and-darklings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: Of Ninjas and Darklings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/12/x3f-achievements-101-of-ninjas-and-darklings/">X3F Achievements 101: Of Ninjas and Darklings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 12 Aug 2007 16:00:00 EST. Over on <em>The Darkness</em>' official <a href="http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&amp;friendID=102472620&amp;blogID=289150823">MySpace</a> page, Lord Sonatine has confirmed that they'll be releasing a multiplayer patch sometime in August to fix the lag issues that so many players are experiencing. Lord Sonatine explains that the problem stems from poor host upstream speeds which weren't caught while developing the game due to the studio's uber fast internet hookup. For now, they recommend hosting a match with less players which will help alleviate the bandwidth strain on the host.<br /><br />On behalf of the hundreds of people we've heard complain about laggy <em>The Darkness</em> multiplayer we send a well deserved thank you to Starbreeze Studios for the patch. That is, if the patch will actually fix the lag problem. Up on the XBLM this morning is a 1.27GB single player <em>The Darkness</em> <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/07/20/demo-the-darkness.aspx">demo</a> featuring three campaign levels of death, darkness and more death. And if you don't already know,<em> The Darkness</em> has received generally <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/darkness">favorable reviews</a> for its campaign although most everyone agrees that its multiplayer is rather lackluster. But the demo is all about the campaign, so if you have yet to get your hands on <em>The Darkness</em> we advise giving the demo a download and experiencing first hand what black eels with teeth protruding from your body actually feels like.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/20/the-darkness-demo-slithers-onto-the-xblm-finally/">The Darkness demo slithers onto the XBLM (finally)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 20 Jul 2007 10:45:00 EST. Just in time for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/16/worldwide-ps3-releases-for-the-week-of-july-16th/">European release</a> tomorrow, <em>The Darkness </em>gets a demo and a trailer. So if you're not sure whether to get the game or not, check these out. We're not at all surprised to see a lack of <em>Heavenly Sword</em> demo this week, despite it being ready to go. We'll no doubt see it next Friday. Or Thurday. Which is it, Sony? You're messing with our heads.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/european-psn-updates-for-july-19th/">European PSN updates for July 19th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jul 2007 12:00:00 EST. Watch out for the 2K Games lineup for this week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e307">E3 2007</a>; it's mighty massive. Despite the appearance of an already-released title (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thedarkness"><em>The Darkness</em></a>), Irrational's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock">BioShock</a> </em>will more than make way with Big Brother demanding your full attention ... or else. The lineup, and attached release dates:<br />
<ul>
    <li><em>BioShock</em> (Xbox 360; August 21)<br /></li>
    <li><em>Civilization Revolution</em> (Xbox 360, PS3, and DS in Spring 2008; Wii in Fall 2008)<br /></li>
    <li><em>The Darkness</em> (Xbox 360, PS3)<br /></li>
    <li><em>All-Pro</em> Footbal 2K8 (Xbox 360, PS3; July 2007)<br /></li>
    <li><em>NHL 2K8</em> (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2; Fall 2007)</li>
</ul>
Those holding out to see (or have us see, rather) <em>Manhunt 2</em> need not worry, as this does not include 2K parent publisher Take Two's E3 lineup.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock/">BioShock</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock/#266249"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/bioshock-cover-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock/#271607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/bioshock_box_gfw_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock/#271608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/bioshock_box_360_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock/#284903"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/bioshock-34_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/bioshock/#284904"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/bioshock-31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sid-meiers-civilization-revolution/">Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sid-meiers-civilization-revolution/#291582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/civ_revolutions_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sid-meiers-civilization-revolution/#291585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/civ_revolutions_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sid-meiers-civilization-revolution/#291584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/civ_revolutions_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sid-meiers-civilization-revolution/#291587"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/civ_revolutions_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sid-meiers-civilization-revolution/#291586"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/civ_revolutions_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/2k-games-bio-shocking-e3-2007-lineup/">2K Games' (Bio)shocking E3 2007 lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Jul 2007 11:55:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Starbreeze's<span style="font-style: italic;"> Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay</span> was one of those titles that you really, really should have played. The critically acclaimed game was known for its incredible graphics, atmospheric story and brutal, violent gameplay but was largely ignored by gamers who wrote it off as another cheap movie tie-in or were distracted by <span style="font-style: italic;">Half-Life 2</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Doom 3</span>, both of which had just been released. It's a shame though, because <span style="font-style: italic;">Riddick </span>easily held its own against both of those titles and is considered by many people to be the best FPS of 2004. And now, three years later, Starbreeze has done it again with their latest effort, <span style="font-style: italic;">The Darkness. </span>Though only a little more than half-way through the year, <em>The Darkness </em>is an early runner for best FPS of 2007. A fantastic amalgamation of tight gameplay, mature storytelling and excellent graphics, the title is an absolute must-buy and is an instant classic.<br /><br />Based on Top Cow's long running comic series of the same name, the story revolves around an anti-hero by the name of Jackie Estacado. Adopted by a mafia Don when a child, Jackie was raised to be the perfect hitman and enforcer for the mob. Things were going swimmingly until his 21st birthday when a strange and evil power within him called the Darkness is awoken. Older than time, this menavolent entity gives its host incredible powers and protection -- but nothing in this world is free and Jackie is about to find out what the cost of ultimate power is ...<br /><br /></div>

Welcome back to another edition of X3F Achievements 101, complete with Gamerscore whoring goodness. This week we take a look at finishing up<em> Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End</em>, a very quick look at the ever distracting and delicious <a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/thedarkness"><em>Darkness</em></a>, as well as some personal Achievements, while not exactly adding any value to my Gamerscore, are still pretty cool little accomplishments that occurred over the past week. All in all, it was a solid week, with a few minor hiccups that'll you'll have to check it out for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/x3f-achievements-101-dark-pirates/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>X3F Achievements 101: Dark Pirates</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/x3f-achievements-101-dark-pirates/">X3F Achievements 101: Dark Pirates</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jul 2007 12:30:00 EST. They report that the "distributor responsible for bringing in games from 2K" says the title has been officially banned for "excessive violence." The same website reports that another 2K game, <em>BioShock</em>, is also on the chopping block.<br /><br />We can semi-understand the whole <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/manhunt2"><em>Manhunt 2</em> saga</a>, we're even on board with some of <a href="http://xbox2.joystiq.com/2007/06/29/the-darkness-delayed-for-the-germans/">Germany's issues</a> causing <em>The Darkness</em> to be delayed there for a month, but why did Singapore pick <em>The Darkness</em> when there are plenty of violent games out there to ban? We'll admit that we aren't on top of our Singapore game banning rules, so we don't know what major issues they found offense to. Maybe it was the ever-present heart eating mechanic? Although, <em>The Darkness</em>' heart eating mechanic isn't offensive because of the gore, it's more offensive that it's such a tedious task that needs to be performed on every ... single ... body. There wasn't a more efficient way to make that concept work? The whole process seems tacked on for shock value ... ohhhhh, now we get it.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2007/07/02/the-darkness-banned-in-singapore-according-to-report/">GamePolitics</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/02/rumor-the-darkness-is-the-banned-in-singapore/">Rumor: The Darkness is the banned in Singapore</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Jul 2007 23:45:00 EST. Key elements that need to be changed are Nazi symbols and a finishing move showing a human heart being ripped out. Before the Americans in the room get all First Amendment happy, the Germans have never allowed Nazi symbols in games (all the way back to <em>Wolfenstein 3D</em>) -- they're a little sensitive about that stuff. These requests for changes are also a very tempered move by the USK instead of just outright passive aggressively "banning" the game by not rating it, like they did with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/21/dead-rising-not-banned-facing-unique-unrated-status-in-german/">Dead Rising</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/18/germany-says-nein-to-gears-of-war/">Gears of War</a></em>.<br /><br />The Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the game will now release on July 27 to satisfy the USK's demands. The PS3 version was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/24/the-darkness-delayed-for-euro-ps3-until-july-20/">delayed a week ago</a> for unspecified reasons across Europe until July 20 - so Germany will need to wait an extra week. This did not affect the UK launch or content of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/"><em>The Darkness</em></a> which occured today.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/29/the-darkness-delayed-for-the-germans/">The Darkness delayed for the Germans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Jun 2007 18:45:00 EST. Today is your last day to enter our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/fanswag-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">Fanboys Fight for <em>The Darkness</em></a> giveaway. Not to be cocky, but we currently have just over twice as many entries as <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/giveaway-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">PS3 Fanboy</a>. If you don't already know, whichever site gets more entries gets an extra copy of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/">The Darkness</a></em> to give away. So far, it's looking pretty good for us to have that third copy. If you'd like your shot at <em>The Darkness</em>, head over to the official contest page and enter. If you don't, then the Darkness will possess you and give you cool superpowers. Wait ... no ... if you don't, then the Darkness <em>won't</em> possess you and give you cool superpowers*, so hurry up and enter already.<br /><br /><em>*Regardless of whether or not you enter this contest, you more than likely will not be possessed by anything other than jealousy of the winners, or elation, should you turn out to be one those winners.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/final-reminder-win-the-darkness-from-x3f/">Final reminder: win The Darkness from X3F</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 16:30:00 EST. This week, both online and in-store, <em>The Darkness</em> is available for the low, low price of $49.99, but doesn't include the 2K Sports Darkling like <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=200223">Gamestop offers</a>. Oh well, $10 is $10, so save some cash and pick the game up over at the city of circuits unless you are hell-bent on getting the 2K Sports Darkling. If you are, we understand.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/get-the-darkness-for-only-49-99/">Get The Darkness for only $49.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 12:15:00 EST. It's entertaining, not just for the gameplay, but also for the little narrative in the trailer about a constant smack-talker being (as the kids say) owned by a bunch of darklings, one of which appears to be wearing a top hat (entertainment get!).<br /><br />But be careful if you're a little fella, as the trailer features some adult language. ... And, you know, adult murder. Also, there's at least one evisceration, which we can all agree is pretty adult too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/the-darkness-multiplayer-trailer-tears-apart-trash-talker/">The Darkness multiplayer trailer tears apart trash talker</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 10:28:00 EST. This week you can pick up <em>The Darkness</em> for a mere $49.99 from <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/The-Darkness-PlayStation-3/sem/rpsm/oid/176882/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do">Circuit City</a>. This knocks the price of Starbreeze's latest FPS from the unruly next-gen price of $60 to a more comfortable PS2-level price point.<br /><br /><em>The Darkness</em> has been getting fantastic reviews so far and looks like a must-buy when it comes out today. And now, thanks to CheapyD, you can buy the game and even have enough money left over for a McDonalds value meal and a 40 of Old English. Now THAT'S good living.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/deal-of-the-day-absorb-the-darkness-for-only-49-99/">Deal of the Day: Absorb the Darkness for only $49.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 07:00:00 EST. The Entertainment Software Rating Board is looking to rate gameplay trailers, according to information obtained by Gamasutra. <br /><br />Footage for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/D3Publisher/">D3 Publisher's</a> <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/DarkSector/">Dark Sector</a> </em>was requested to be pulled because it contained "excessive or offensive content," even though it was behind an age gate. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/2KGames/">2K Games</a> told Gamasutra that they had to receive a separate rating for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/">The Darkness</a></em> trailer and that "game publishers that do not comply with the age gate requirement are subject to enforcement actions by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ESRB/">ESRB</a>," though what those actions entail is not made clear.<br /><br />If the ESRB is indeed moving to rate trailers, many questions are left unanswered. Our biggest concern would be with user-created footage and machinima. Would the ESRB see that as falling under their sphere of influence? Much like the <em>Oblivion</em> "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/12/esrbs-censorship-wound-re-opened-user-made-content-to-break-th/">skin-cident</a>", could publishers be punished for content made by the community? We've seen all the Darkness powers put to good use. Kill all the lights, yadda, yadda, yadda. What we haven't seen much, however, is multiplayer. Lucky for us, GameTrailers has posted a <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/20903.html">video</a> showing off exactly that. While the multiplayer appears to offer the same run and gun action as the campaign, it also offers up a new shape-shifting twist. Players are allowed to turn into Darklings (the little goblin/imp things) at any time. As noted by the video, Darklings are small and agile, whereas humans have superior firepower. Honestly, it's a pretty neat little twist, one we're looking forward to trying. Check out the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/watch-darkness-shape-shifting-multiplayer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch Darkness shape-shifting multiplayer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/watch-darkness-shape-shifting-multiplayer/">Watch Darkness shape-shifting multiplayer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 18:30:00 EST. Not only do we finally get to sample the heart-eating goodness of <em>The Darkness</em> (a game we're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/fanswag-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">giving away</a>, by the way), but we also have a plethora of other games arriving as well. In fact, there are so many games coming out this week, we're going to whip out (that's right) a bulleted list. Behold:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/harrypotter"><em>Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thebigs"><em>The Bigs</em></a><em></em></li>

    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/overlord"><em>Overlord </em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/transformers"><em></em></a><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/transformers">Transformers: The Game</a> </em></li>
    <li><em>Ratatouille</em></li>
</ul>
That's a lot of games. We're particularly excited about <em>Overlord</em>, which has been sitting patiently in our rental queue for some time. Are you planning on picking up any of these titles?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/shipping-this-week-eat-your-heart-out-edition/">Shipping this week: eat your heart out edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 16:45:00 EST. You have entered our <em>The Darkness</em> giveaway, haven't you? We're trying to beat Xbox 360 Fanboy by getting more entries than them ... but it looks like they've taken the lead! Make sure you tell all your PS3-owning friends to enter. The site with the most entries gets not two, but <em>three</em> copies of the game to give away.<br /><br />You like winning, don't you? To enter, visit the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/giveaway-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">official contest page</a>. Remember, the contest ends at 11:59PM EST tomorrow (6/26). We're having a little competition with <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com">PS3 Fanboy</a>, you see. Whichever site gets more entries also gets a third copy of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/">The Darkness</a></em> to give away, leaving the losing site with a paltry two.<br /><br />It's super easy to enter. All you have to do is go to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/fanswag-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">official contest post</a> and leave a comment that finishes this sentence: <br /><br />"The 360 version of The Darkness is better than the PS3 version because ... It's a hefty week for late June, not that you're going to hear us complaining. There are a lot of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/newgames/">new games</a> to be excited about this week, but we think that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/">The Darkness</a></em> looks like the pick of the litter (thought we'll be the first to admit we had a lot of fun with that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Overlord/">Overlord</a> </em>demo). Over at Gametrailers, diablokiller18 <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=75935">uploaded</a> the first 25 minutes of <a href="http://xbox360fanboy.com/tag/thedarkness"><em>The Darkness</em></a>' single player story. Sure, the aspect ratio is wrong, and we're not entirely sure if he's "allowed" to do that, but it builds hype, and if the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/23/the-darkness-gets-reviewed-and-its-good/">first review</a> is any indication, the game is going to be a summer blockbuster anyway. Obviously, spoilers and potentially NSFW language can be found, so if you don't want to ruin the experience, we suggest you avert your eyes. Otherwise, embrace <em>The Darkness</em> and enjoy.<br /><br />[Thanks Joshua]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/video-first-25-minutes-of-the-darkness/">Video: First 25 minutes of the Darkness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 09:00:00 EST. Turns out the game is being <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000FJ3P0S/ref=amb_link_42942865_/026-7594918-5688467?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&amp;pf_rd_s=asin-coop-gp-1-A&amp;pf_rd_r=09RKGJJWAPJXGV78VWDP&amp;pf_rd_t=101&amp;pf_rd_p=143086891&amp;pf_rd_i=16423381">delayed</a> until July 20 for the PS3, the Xbox 360 version will supposedly still release on June 29. This only affects Europe and does not change the June 25 release in the US. There is no word yet as to a reason for the delay.<br /><br />There is a silver lining in this news for European PS3 owners who really want to possess themselves with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/TheDarkness/"><em>The Darkness</em></a>. Games on the PS3 are region free, so if you're in Europe and have a buddy in the states, just have them pick it up for you and ship it on over. There are also international games retailers, just make sure to find one with free shipping. Hopefully we can get an answer this week on what happened.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/24/the-darkness-delayed-for-euro-ps3-until-july-20/">The Darkness delayed for Euro PS3 until July 20</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Jun 2007 15:45:00 EST. Quite a well populated list. There's no real way anyone can complain about this week's releases. Unless you're a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/23/the-darkness-to-remain-in-the-shadows-until-july-in-europe/">European <span style="font-style: italic;">The Darkness </span>fan</a>. Don't forget, though. If there's a game that's only available in another region, then feel free to import it. Your PlayStation 3 won't care. Release dates are subject to constant change, so give your local game shop a ring before walking down there.<br /><br />Which of this week's releases will you be picking up? We've already got our copies of <span style="font-style: italic;">The Darkness</span> ordered.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/24/worldwide-playstation-3-releases-for-the-week-of-june-25th/">Worldwide PlayStation 3 releases for the week of June 25th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 24 Jun 2007 08:30:00 EST. They felt that the presentation, the look, the gameplay and overall incorporation of the Darkness features (tentacles and all) were very polished and fun. As the saying goes, "it just works". Completing the game will take an average of ten or so hours, but 1UP feels that players can easily get distracted by messing around with the physics engine or taking advantage of the game's down times by roaming the city. The only drawback to the game is its somewhat gimmicky multiplayer, which developer Starbreeze even admits shouldn't be taken too seriously. Overall, we're impressed by how much 1UP was impressed by the game and will be patiently watching <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/darkness">metacritic</a> for more reviews to hit the internet. Who knows,<em> The Darkness</em> could actually be a solid game.<br /><br />[Thanks, intRvenous]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/23/the-darkness-gets-reviewed-and-its-good/">The Darkness gets reviewed and it's good</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Jun 2007 16:15:00 EST. We figured if we ignored it, maybe it wouldn't be true. Unfortunately, it is true. <a href="http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/1021977/-/Product.html">Play.com</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000FJ3P0S/ref=amb_link_42942865_/026-7594918-5688467?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&amp;pf_rd_s=asin-coop-gp-1-A&amp;pf_rd_r=09RKGJJWAPJXGV78VWDP&amp;pf_rd_t=101&amp;pf_rd_p=143086891&amp;pf_rd_i=16423381">Amazon.co.uk</a> have both updated their release dates to correspond with GAME.<br /><br />So it looks like we're in for another wait. It is, however, important to remember that the PS3 is region free for games. The American version will still be out early next week, so hop on over to your favourite international games website and get ordering. Alternatively, you could get an American friend to enter our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/giveaway-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/"><em>The Darkness</em> contest</a> and send you the winnings. If they win.<br /><br />If you really fancy waiting around for a month, you'll have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rainbowsix"><em>Rainbow Six: Vegas</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninjagaiden"><em>Ninja Gaiden Sigma</em></a> to tide you over. So it could be worse.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/23/the-darkness-to-remain-in-the-shadows-until-july-in-europe/">The Darkness to remain in the shadows until July in Europe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Jun 2007 07:30:00 EST. In celebration of this glorious gloom, 2K Games decided to give us 5 copies of the game. The only problem is, they didn't bother to tell us <em>which</em> version. As such, we have decided to collaborate with the heathens over at PS3 Fanboy. We came up with a cordial little contest, and we need your help to settle it. How will you do that? With a good old-fashioned flamewar, of course! All you have to do is:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Finish this sentence: "The 360 version of <em>The Darkness</em> is better than the PS3 version because ... "</li>
    <li>Submit your idea to our comments section.</li>

Two winners will be chosen from Xbox 360 Fanboy. Here's the kicker: if Xbox 360 Fanboy receives more entries than <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/giveaway-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">PS3 Fanboy</a>, we'll also give away a third copy to another lucky winner. As an added bonus, all winners will receive a prize package from 2K Games including both the game and a special <em>The Darkness</em> comic. We'll accept entries until June 26, 2007, so get cracking. <em>The Darkness</em> is coming ...<br /><br />Starbreeze's hotly anticipated FPS title is coming to the PS3 ... and Xbox 360. We have five copies of the game to give away, but we don't know which version we should hand out. Xbox 360? PS3? Well, you'll help us decide in the very first Xbox 360 Fanboy/PS3 Fanboy joint contest. We're pitting each community against each other. Fans on <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2007/06/22/fanswag-fanboys-fight-for-the-darkness/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a> will explain why the 360 version of the game will be better. You will explain why the PS3 version of the game will be better. To enter:<br />
<ol>
    <li>Finish this sentence: "The PS3 version of <em>The Darkness</em> is better than the 360 version because ... "</li>
    <li>Submit your idea to our comments section.</li>
</ol>
Two winners will be chosen from PS3 Fanboy. If the PS3 Fanboy sweepstakes receives more entries than the Xbox 360 Fanboy sweepstakes, a third winner will be chosen here at PS3 Fanboy. All winners will receive a prize package from 2K Games, which includes one copy of the game, and a very cool <em>The Darkness</em> comic. Entries will only be accepted until 6/26/07. Please note that the giveaway is open US residents only, 18 years or older. Oh, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/video-the-darkness-more-teh-hawtness-1/">we have</a>? Well, sorry, but it does. We just happened to get a boat load of <em>The Darkness</em> images, and we'd be total jerks if we bogarted them all to ourselves. As such, we've dumped them all into a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-darkness-1/">massive gallery</a>. Truly, it is a gallery so massive, that is in danger of collapsing into itself, thus forming a neutron star. You'd best take a look at it before its darkness consumes us all. Oh, and we just might have some very spiffy <em>The Darkness</em> related news soon, so keep your eyes peeled.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/21/feast-your-eyes-on-the-darkness-huge-gallery/">Feast your eyes on The Darkness, huge gallery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Jun 2007 15:45:00 EST. The blog confirms that the demo will be headed to Microsoft certification sometime this week and go through the two plus week process of getting approved. So, we'll have to be a patient bunch. Lord Sonatine also reiterated that <em>The Darkness</em> demo wasn't intentionally held back like some conspiracy theorists have expressed and that the real reason for the delay was because the retail version was at "<em>risk of being late and missing the release date by a week or two. So we pulled people off the demo to work on the game</em>". See, it's as simple as that.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://benfurneaux.blogspot.com/">Ben Furneaux</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/21/the-darkness-demo-playable-in-a-few-weeks/">The Darkness demo playable in a few weeks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Jun 2007 10:30:00 EST. Next week, PS3 gamers are finally going to get (shock!) a <em>real</em> game. 2K Games is releasing <em>The Darkness</em> to the Americas next week. We've received a batch of new screenshots from the game, showcasing some of its brutal, gory gameplay. We're working with 2K Games right now to have something real special for you ... Stay tuned for more details.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/get-ready-for-the-darkness/">Get ready for The Darkness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 11:00:00 EST.
