Weekly Webcomic Wrapup totally loves America

Happy Birthday, America! Let us be the first to say -- and we really mean this -- you've aged spectacularly well. How old are you? Two-hundred and thirty-three? No, that can't be right. Seriously, you look like you're still in your thirties! No wrinkles, no unsightly varicose veins, no ... well, okay, your Dakotas are sagging a bit, and your Florida has certainly seen better days, but on the whole, you've still got it goin' on. You know what they say -- two-hundred and thirty-three is the new twenty, you saucy, saucy cougar.

While not celebrating our decadent independence or hitting on entire nations, we managed to find our seven favorite gaming-themed webcomics from this past week. We've posted them below for your viewing pleasure, and then listed them in a poll after the break for your ... well, for your voting pleasure, we guess. Celebrate your democracy, dear friends!

Mountain Cracks (Brawl in the Family)
Party Favors (Digital Unrest)
In Which We Declare Our Independence (Dipswitch)
Actually, I'm Just Not Going to Buy It (Virtual Shackles)
The Wee-Bee Overlord (Monday Night Crew)
Team Fortress 2 Babies (GG-Guys)
Mega Man's Workout (2P Start)

Readers pick best webcomic: Still a Few Bugs in the System

Virtual Shackles only just appeared on the gaming webcomic scene, but has held its own in every Wrapup it's appeared on, usually netting one of the runner-up spots. However, their eighteenth strip -- a cautionary tale about the dangers of sentient camera peripherals titled "Still a Few Bugs in the System" -- managed to pull down first place in last week's WeeWebWrap. Congratulations, VirtShack! (Do you mind if we call you VirtShack? We feel so much closer to you now.)

Second place went to GameSpy's "The Life Cycle of a Videogame" (which missed top honors by a mere eight votes!) and Brawl in the Family's "The Lesson," respectively. If you've got a favorite gaming-themed webcomic to throw into the ring this week, act quickly! We'll be webcomic wrapping later today, shortly before we recklessly play with fireworks -- and after that, we may not have enough fingers left to throw any tardy entries into the fray.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is green with envy

Used to be 'round these parts that Saturdays here at the 'Stiq were synonymous with one feature, and one feature only -- the illustrated revue you're reading right this very second. Last week, Joystiq's newest featured bundle o' joy hit the site, and hit it hard. The inaugural edition of Swag Saturday received 3167 Comments? Seriously? Sure, free games are cool, but the WeeWebWrap provides you with instantaneous, guaranteed entertainment with no attached entry requirements, except for your undying, unswerving love.

Fortunately for you, we take our duties seriously enough to provide you with our seven favorite comics of this past week despite our tangible, heartbreaking jealousy. Check them out below, vote for your favorite after the jump and drop a few thousand comments telling us what strips we may have missed on!

Still a Few Bugs in the System (Virtual Shackles)
Condraculations (Penny Arcade)
The Lesson (Brawl in the Family)
Magic: The Scattering (Digital Unrest)
The Life Cycle of a Video Game (GameSpy)
Definitely Brutal (Dipswitch)
Gender Malfunction (MNC)

Readers pick best webcomic: Consumer Advocacy

Though most of you base your video game purchasing decisions on replay value, storytelling elements or a title's raw, unmitigated fun factor, we realize there's a small sect of gamers who make said decisions based on the game's capacity for physical violence towards flying machines. A very small sect. Like, one person -- Penny Arcade's Gabe. His obsession was revealed in the recent strip "Consumer Advocacy," the winner of last week's Weekly Webcomic Wrapup.

Second and third place went to Virtual Shackles' "A Dose of Fake Reality" and 2P Start's "The Power of Teamwork," respectively. If you've got a favorite comic from this past week you'd like to see in the polls, now's the time to submit it -- just drop a link in the comments, or send in a tip!

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is back from the dead

Brains! Braaaaaaaiiiinnnnssss!

Due to nightmarish travel complications during a return trip from E3 and then a bizarre, four-day long hippie sun-cooking ritual, the author of this humble feature has been out of commission for some time -- an oversight for which said author apologizes. If only the cultivation of comics was a brisk process! As you might imagine, it takes days of intense concentration, followed by a solid day of drinking, and then another day of concentration, and then, yes, another half-day of drinking.

We're back in action, though! Below are our seven favorite gaming-centric webcomics of this past week! You can (and should!) vote for your favorite after the jump, and drop a link in the comments to tell us what gems we missed out of during our accidental furlough.

Consumer Advocacy (Penny Arcade)
How to Spot the Doomed Characters Early (Dipswitch)
All Work and No Play (Sidescroller)
The Power of Teamwork (2P Start)
A Dose of Fake Reality (Virtual Shackles)
Prince of Amnesia (Burn the Internet)
A New Business Venture (Digital Unrest)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup packs it up, packs it in

No time for pithy pop cultural observations today, dear readers. Los Angeles is calling, as are our still-empty Samsonites. You'll have to go this week without a Wrapup of acceptable length, but rest assured, our garments will reach the West Coast in tact, and in suitcase.

Below are our seven favorite webcomics from this past week. You can vote for your favorite after the break, or tell us what we left out in the comments section. Or, if you -- Underpants! Oh man, can't forget about those. Jeez, close call.

My Favoritest Activities (of Noobs and Men)
Family Ties (Digital Unrest)
E3 2009: The Beforemath (Hsu and Chan)
Touch Me (Castle Vidcons)
Mercurial (Penny Arcade)
A Carefully Considered Position (SideScroller)
Guitar Hawk: Call of Activision (Virtual Shackles)

Readers pick best webcomic: Body Movin'

Ahh, yes. Physical activity. The sworn adversary of many an electronic entertainment enthusiast. No, we're not stereotyping -- it's safe to assume that you guys and exertion don't mix, seeing as how Penny Arcade's exercise-indicting comic "Body Movin'" won the last Weekly Webcomic Wrapup. Then again, maybe you just found it humorous, and aren't a bunch of lazy slobs. We'll go with that!

Second and third place went to Of Noobs and Men's "We'll Make 'Em Fight, Too!" and the recently de-throned Brawl in the Family's "P-Block," respectively. If you want to get your comic (or one of your favorites) in tomorrow's Wrapup, don't hesitate! Drop a link in the comments below, or send us a tip! We believe in you!

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is counting down

In around 20 seconds (may vary depending on your reading speed), Joystiq.com will have a world exclusive reveal of a world exclusive piece of ... exclusivity. (14!) Here's a hint: It's weekly, it's illustrated, and it's ... wrapup-y. (9!) It's one of the most highly anticipated events of the year -- we guarantee you haven't seen anything like it in, like, seven days. (2!) Ladies and gentlemen, we're proud to reveal: Metal Gear Solid 5!

Oh, fine. It's just the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup. Below you'll find our seven favorite gaming-centric comics of the past week! Check 'em out, then vote for your favorite after the jump! If we left out one of your personal favorites, tell us of our inexcusable oversight in the comments section!

Update: AVGW's contribution removed due to some weird spyware apparently being hosted on the site. I contacted the author to find out what happened. Sorry!

E3 Rumors (AVGW)

We'll Make 'Em Fight, Too! (Of Noobs and Men)
P-Block (Brawl in the Family)
The Survival Horror Dilemma (Digital Unrest)
Body Movin' (Penny Arcade)
Real Estate in a Virtual World (2P Start)
I'd Hit That, Then I'd Punch That (Hello With Cheese)

Readers pick best webcomic: Defending the Belt

Great Scott! Brawl in the Family is on a hot streak, folks. For the third week in a row, its bi-weekly offering took top honors in the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup poll. Congrats to Matthew, progenitor of "Defending the Belt" (the title of the first-finishing strip)! If we were playing NBA Jam right now, your illustrations would be on fire.

Second and third place went to Dueling Analogs' "Stupid Blockhead" and Dipswitch's "Origins of Evil," respectively. Think you've got a strip that can knock BitF from its towering pedestal? Send it in for consideration in tomorrow's Wrapup! Just drop a link in the comments below, or shoot us a tip!

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is Lost without you

Perhaps this isn't the best platform for which to deliver this type of message, but deliver it we must -- Curse you, Mr. Abrams. You think you can just stumble into our lives a few months out of the year, fill our head with questions and theories, and then split for the remainder of the year? We've got a word for people like you 'round these parts, Mr. Abrams -- deadbeat. Go ahead and let that sink in, you brilliant jerk.

Below are our seven favorite webcomics from this past week. You know the drill -- vote for your favorite after the jump, or leave a comment in the comments section (how appropriate!) telling us what hee-larious strips we missed out on. Also, we'll allow discussion of Lost theories, just this once. Our personal belief? They're all robots.

Counting Cowls [SideScroller]
Mega Wait [2P Start]
Olimar Goes Green [Digital Unrest]
Origins of Evil [Dipswitch]
X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition [AVGW]
Defending the Belt [BitF]
Stupid Blockhead [Dueling Analogs]

Readers pick best webcomic: Security

Last week's first-place finisher in the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup, Brawl in the Family's succinctly titled "Security," brings up an excellent, if not somewhat disturbing question. Why doesn't Team Rocket, known scoundrels, simply use firearms to dispatch their pre-teen adversaries? Sure, "I choose you, .38 Special!" doesn't really have much of a ring to it, but when it comes to offing underfoot trainers, a revolver beats the heck out of a Rattata.

Second and third place went to The Great Indoors' "Pig Sick" and Penny Arcade's "More Like Incorporeal," respectively. Got a gut-busting, gaming-related webcomic from this week that you'd like to share with the Joystiq omniverse? Drop it in the comments below, or send us a tip!

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup says 'Word to your Mother'

It was really, super difficult to pick out our favorite webcomics of this past week -- it seems there's more strips popping up every day! You know what else is really, super difficult? Carrying another person inside you for nine months. Perhaps you should pick up that cell phone and give your female progenitor a call. Reading and voting for webcomics is pretty important, but then again, so is matriarchical apprecation. We can wait.

You back? Awesome. Below are our seven favorite gaming related webcomics of this past week. You can vote for your favorite in a poll after the break, or drop a comment to let us know what comics we reproachfully missed out on.

Security [BitF]
Pig Sick [The Great Indoors]
The Future of Gaming [Digital Unrest]
More Like Incorporeal [Penny Arcade]
A Falling Out [Virtual Shackles]
Who You Gonna Call? [AVGW]
Nolan Bushnell is Rolling in His -- He's Still Alive? [Dipswitch]

Readers pick best webcomic: Captain Falcon Carpools to Work

Little known fact about F-Zero and Smash Bros. punchiest contender, Captain Falcon -- dude loves the environment. In fact, he loves it enough to suffer the droll monotony of piling into a Dodge Neon with four co-workers in order to save the Earth from swallowing a few extra pounds of CO. It seems you guys appreciate his Greenitude -- you picked Brawl in the Family's "Captain Falcon Carpools to Work" as your favorite webcomic in last week's wrapup.

Second and third place went to Hiimdaisy's "Stepmom" and Virtual Shackles' "BioWare Confidential," respectively. If you'd like to get your comic (or the comic of a loved one) in tomorrow's wrapup, it's not too late! Drop a link in the comments section below, or shoot us a tip!

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup celebrates Free Comic Book Day

It's probably too late to capitalize on the day's festivities if you haven't already done so, so we certainly hope you lot had the presence of mind to go grab some free funny books at your local funny book retailer today. Using a pre-planned circuit between the local comic shops and a variety of fake mustaches, we ended up harvesting enough Archie comics to last us 'til this time next year. Hopefully, your Free Comic Book Day was just as fruitful.

Below are our seven (also free!) favorite webcomics from this past week. You can vote for your favorite after the jump, or leave a comment telling us what strip we may have missed. Or you could just brag about the illustrated haul you brought in earlier today -- though we can't imagine it compares to our Archie treasure trove. That Jughead is hee-larious.

The New Champ (Burn The Internet)
Nomenclature (Digital Unrest)
A Reasoned Assessment (Penny Arcade)
Bioware Confidential (Virtual Shackles)
Captain Falcon Carpools to Work (BitF)
Stepmom (Hiimdaisy's Livejournal)
I Wanna Take You For a Ride (AVGW)

Readers pick best webcomic: Nerd Rage

If you prefer your horses high and your language foul, then we ... well, actually, we assume you do possess those preferences, seeing as how VG Cats' "Nerd Rage" won last week's Weekly Webcomic Wrapup. Honestly, we never knew you guys felt so strongly about the expansion of the gaming populous. Finally, you have something to talk to your grandmother about! Other than her throbbing bunions, of course.

Second and third place went to Penny Arcade's "Maybe Too Soon" and 2P Start's "Ray's Adventures in Dating," respectively. We'll be doing our usual webcomic wrapping tomorow evening, so it's not too late to get your favorite strip in the poll! Drop a link in the comments, or shoot us a tip!
