EA Mobile certainly hopes your fascination with crafting words from letter-filled grids on your iPhone hasn't waned -- the developer <a href="http://toucharcade.com/2009/08/31/boggle-the-latest-addition-to-eas-classic-games/">recently released a port of Hasbro's <em>Boggle</em></a> onto the App Store. Though it lacks <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/14/iphone-it-in-word-scramble/"><em>Word Scramble</em>'s</a> robust multiplayer system (and free-ness), it does possess one feature that justifies its $2.99 price tag: Achievements. <em>Lots</em> of achievements. Seriously, wordsmithing hasn't been this rewarding since you won those tickets to Dollywood in your fourth grade spelling bee.<br />
<br />
We take it back. This is <em>way</em> more rewarding than that.<br />

We're a little wistful when we look at the new Wii Ware <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/05/we-wish-we-could-play-mojipittan-wii/"><em>Kotoba Puzzle Mojipittan</em></a>. It's a game built around making Japanese words, so there's kind of an inherent problem with localizing it. The Wii Ware version, just like every other version, is therefore locked away in Japan forever.<br /><br />But it looks so fun! And the use of the hiragana syllabary means that novice-to-intermediate Japanese learners could play it <em>a little</em> without having to worry about kanji. This particular iteration of <em>Mojipittan</em>, in addition to <em>only costing 1,000 Wii Points</em>, has another feature that makes it especially interesting: online play for two players.<br /><br />In addition to the normal <em>Scrabble</em>-like game, this <em>Mojipittan </em>features a "War Mode" in which players battle over board territory with their words, with the winner occupying the most space.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/mojipittan-supports-wi-fi-still-doesnt-support-english/">Mojipittan supports Wi-Fi, still doesn't support English</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 13:30:00 EST. No, not <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/RedSteel/">Red Steel</a>. </em>Guillemot was referring to the spate of ports that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> released to fill out their lineup.<br /><br />Regarding the hasty ports (games such as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/06/what-are-you-playing-to-be-evil-or-not-to-be-evil-edition/">Prince of Persia: Rival Swords</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/farcry">Far Cry: Vengeance</a>, </em>and <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_4x4_World_Circuit">Monster 4x4 World Circuit</a>), </em>Guillemot said that "We made mistakes." Ubisoft admitting to overporting? Between this and weird releases like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/my-word-coach-lets-you-be-like-us-plus-ds-to-wii-connectivity/">My Word Coach</a>,</em> Ubi seems like a whole new company!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/ubisoft-on-ubiports-we-made-mistakes/">Ubisoft on Ubiports: 'We made mistakes'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 May 2007 11:00:00 EST. Among them:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nms-multiplayer-mayhem-with-mario-party-8/"><em>Mario Party 8</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nms-scoring-goals-in-mario-strikers-charged/"><em>Super Mario Strikers: Charged</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nms-big-brain-academy-hands-on/"><em>Big Brain Academy</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nms-pokemon-battle-revolution-impressions/"><em>Pokemon Battle Revolution</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nms-up-close-and-personal-with-the-bigs/"><em>The Bigs</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nms-cutting-a-rug-in-boogie/"><em>Boogie</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/my-word-coach-lets-you-be-like-us-plus-ds-to-wii-connectivity/"><em>My Word Coach</em></a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/more-rabbid-stuff/"><em>Rayman: Raving Rabbids 2</em></a></li>
</ul>
We're most jazzed for <em>Strikers</em>, especially after reading such effulgent impressions from <a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com/">Penny Arcade</a>. But which game shown at NMS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wwu">excited you</a> the most? If you were stuck on an island and could only have one game ... you know, assuming you had a Wii and a couple Wiimotes, and a nice TV ... maybe some nunchuks, oh, and the sensor bar, and I guess you'd need a standard 120 W outlet somewhere in the sand ... and a decent supply of food and water, or you wouldn't spend your time playing the Wii ... you know what, never mind.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/26/wii-warm-up-nms-excitement/">Wii Warm Up: NMS excitement</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 May 2007 10:00:00 EST. His <a href="http://dsfanboy.com/category/homebrew">homebrew</a> project digitizes the word hunt games found in daily newspapers where you have to form as many words as possible with a restricted set of letters. The end result is not only fun, but it manages to improve on the traditional pencil/paper experience. <br /><br />You spell out your text by tapping the characters on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/touchscreen">touchscreen</a>, sending them to the top screen's list of completed words. Jumbling the letters to get a new perspective of your selection has also been simplified with a "wrap" button. Call us lazy if you want, but this setup beats the pants out of having to write everything out by hand!<br /><br />There are two Time Attack styles where you can work against the clock by either finding the longest word or collecting a specified amount of words. There's also an Endless option where you can sift through the shuffled letters at your own pace. Each mode comes with three difficulty levels, but being the word geniuses we are, it's "go hard or go home" for us. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.drunkencoders.com/rss/news.php?newsid=1911">Drunken Coders</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/24/word-wrappers-delight/">Word wrapper's delight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Apr 2007 13:00:00 EST. The top screen serves as a window to your inevitable doom, colorcasting the continuous stream of blocks piling on top of letters you've neglected. The game ends if you go too long without clipping a column, but you're presented with a satisfying record of your longest word, the number of words rubbed out, and which word was repeated most often.<br /><br />In addition to its solid gameplay, developer Superpanic sweetened <em>WordUp!</em> with an unlockable arcade mode, three difficulty options, and an original and catchy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/soundtrack">soundtrack</a>. Drop past the post break for more screenshots of this excellent game.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.drunkencoders.com/rss/news.php?newsid=1896">Drunken Coders</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/tetris-and-boggles-illegitimate-child/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tetris and Boggle's illegitimate love-child</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/tetris-and-boggles-illegitimate-child/">Tetris and Boggle's illegitimate love-child</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 19:15:00 EST. Therefore, it's <em>really, really, really </em>hard to play if you don't know a load of Japanese words, and basically impossible if you can't read <em>hiragana.</em> <br /><br /><em>Mojipittan </em>has appeared on <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/">other</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gba">platforms</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2">before</a>, but as the Shockwave <a href="http://namco-ch.net/mojipittan/trial/index.php">demo</a> says, "The stylus makes it simple!" We suggest giving the demo a shot and seeing if you're up for some wordplay. The bouncy music and adorable tile mascots may convince you to enroll in Japanese classes.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20070315/moji.htm">GAME Watch</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/16/mojipittan-will-help-you-learn-hiragana-humility/">Mojipittan will help you learn hiragana, humility</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Mar 2007 11:00:00 EST. (Hint: the obvious alterations concern <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/29/hdmi-issues-at-gdc-or-simply-no-cable/">high-def output</a> and wireless connectivity -- though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/ps3-pad-loses-dualshock-name-and-vibration-but-picks-up-wii-esqu/">Bluetooth controllers</a> should work just fine with both, with or without any chrome case highlighting.)<br /><br />So what's HDMI, built-in multimedia card-reader slots, wireless internet connectivity, and an extra 40 gigabytes' hard disk space worth to you? $100? Now that Sony's gone with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/03/rumor-roundup-more-than-one-ps3-sku/">the 2-SKU approach</a> with its next-gen hardware (a la the Xbox 360's <em>premium</em> and "Core" systems), we can expect some tough consumer choices after six months -- with console shortages possibly for another six months after that -- as $100 separates the <em>base</em> $499 and <em>premium</em> $599 versions of Sony's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/playstation-3-in-its-final-form/">Clear Black</a>" hope.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/25/hddvd/">HDMI is important</a> to those who want to take full advantage of Blu-ray high def and have the new screens to use it; MemoryStick, SD, and CompactFlash slots would be nice for the PS3 memory-card users and those will run multimedia on the system; Wi-Fi's the only way to avoid stringing ethernet cables for online access; and 360 owners might appreciate the full 60GB available to potential buyers of the <em>premium</em> PS3 model. Neither model comes with a second HDMI port; thankfully, one should hopefully be all most users need. The details are laid out in a feature-comparison table at the end of Sony's official PS3 hardware press release, available in both <a href="http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/060509ae.pdf">Adobe Reader</a> and <a href="http://presscenter.playstation.com/Content/detailslots/1339/PS3%20US%20FINAL%20-%20PS3%20Lttrhead.doc">Microsoft Word</a> formats. Determine what's most important to your PS3 ambitions there.<br /><br />[Image pieced together from <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&amp;message.id=346633">the PlayStation.com forums</a>; thanks, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/playstation-3-launch-details-emerge-from-e3/#c1479300">Guru</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/cheaper-ps3-loses-hdmi-slots-wi-fi-40gb/">Cheaper PS3 loses HDMI, slots, Wi-Fi, 40GB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 May 2006 03:32:00 EST.
