That way, you don't have to awkwardly support the whole weight of the system with your left hand while aiming with your right.<br /><br />The motivation may be unfortunate, but the accessory itself is quite nice, securely holding the 3DS in place when in use -- with rubber pads to keep the system from sliding around -- and folding flat when not. See for yourself in our gallery. <em>Kid Icarus: Uprising</em> (and this stand) arrive in North America this Friday.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kid-icarus-uprising-stand/">Kid Icarus: Uprising (Stand)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kid-icarus-uprising-stand/#4904854"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kidicarusstand3192_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kid-icarus-uprising-stand/#4904855"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kidicarusstand3194_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kid-icarus-uprising-stand/#4904858"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kidicarusstand3196_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kid-icarus-uprising-stand/#4904860"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kidicarusstand3197_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kid-icarus-uprising-stand/#4904863"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kidicarusstand3199_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/19/kid-icarus-uprisings-3ds-stand-holds-up-to-scrutiny/">Kid Icarus: Uprising's 3DS stand holds up to scrutiny</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Mar 2012 17:30:00 EST. The console manufacturer claims to have sold 426,000 consoles in February, more than any other console. That makes for 14 consecutive months with the Xbox 360 maintaining the top sales position among consoles. Microsoft also notes that the console has maintained more than a 40 percent market share in the current generation of consoles for 12 straight months.<br /><br />Additionally, consumer spending on hardware, software and accessories bested other consoles as well, totaling $383 million. According to Joystiq's resident financial analyst, the figure is "a lot." We'll have complete NPD numbers shortly.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/microsoft-sold-426-000-xbox-360s-in-february-14th-month-in-top/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Microsoft sold 426,000 Xbox 360s in February, 14th month in top console spot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/microsoft-sold-426-000-xbox-360s-in-february-14th-month-in-top/">Microsoft sold 426,000 Xbox 360s in February, 14th month in top console spot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Mar 2012 18:31:00 EST. What do you do? If you're <em>us</em>, you have to clean your controller. If you're renowned modder Ben Heckendorn, you go into your workshop and build a Hot Pocket pocket that clips to your Xbox controller.<br /><br />Heck's device is literally the most impressive Hot Pocket technology we've ever seen, allowing the hungry gamer to slowly slide the sandwich out of the holder as it is eaten. Peripheral company CTA Digital has acquired a rather ... <em>unexpected</em> license: the United States Army. The company has announced a series of official Army-logoed game peripherals, definitively answering the question of what a government-issue PlayStation Move gun controller would look like.<br />
<br />
The full slate of armaments includes: three different varieties of PS3 rifle, a "Universal Gaming Backpack," throat mics for PS3/PC and Xbox 360, and a "3D" headset for PS3, Xbox, and PC. They'll all be available "soon" at major retailers, no enlistment required.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cta-digital-us-army-accessories-360-ps3-pc/">CTA Digital US Army Accessories (360/PS3/PC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cta-digital-us-army-accessories-360-ps3-pc/#4715231"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/ctanew-guncamo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cta-digital-us-army-accessories-360-ps3-pc/#4715232"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/ctanew-gunno-camono-move_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cta-digital-us-army-accessories-360-ps3-pc/#4715235"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/ctaus-sararmy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cta-digital-us-army-accessories-360-ps3-pc/#4715234"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/ctaus-btmh_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cta-digital-us-army-accessories-360-ps3-pc/#4715236"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/ctaus-tmh_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/05/cta-digitals-official-us-army-game-accessories-are-all-they-can/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CTA Digital's official US Army game accessories are all they can be</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/05/cta-digitals-official-us-army-game-accessories-are-all-they-can/">CTA Digital's official US Army game accessories are all they can be</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 06:00:00 EST. Your 3DS doesn't have to be naked while playing <a href="http://metal-gear-solid-3d-snake-eater"><em>Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D</em></a>. Accessory company Hori is releasing a suite of themed 3DS accessories, with which you can outfit your handheld to prepare it for the rigors of CQC.<br />
<br />
The Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D Accessory Set includes an olive drab pouch for the system and games, a set of camo stickers for the interior of the system, a "Protect Cover" for the exterior featuring Yoji Shinkawa's character art, and a stylus on a lanyard.<br />
<br />
In Japan, the Accessory Set will retail for &yen;2,981, out alongside the game on March 8. Hori accessories are often released stateside, to retailers like Amazon as well as Hori's own <a href="http://stores.horiusa.com/StoreFront.bok">store</a>, so it's quite likely you'll be able to do some on-site procurement of your own accessories.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/27/metal-gear-solid-3d-accessories-increase-your-3ds-camo-index/">Metal Gear Solid 3D accessories increase your 3DS camo index</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Dec 2011 11:00:00 EST. Last month, GameStop posted <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/28/gamestop-lists-vita-memory-card-prices-start-saving-up-now/">pre-order listings</a> for Vita memory cards, with dire, dire prices -- from $30 for a 4GB card to $120 for the 32GB card. In its launch lineup announcement, the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/12/22/playstation-vita-launch-lineup-and-details/">PlayStation Blog</a> revealed the "official" pricing for the unimaginably tiny accessories, and it's ... better.<br />
<br />
Still pretty expensive.<br />
<br />
According to Sony, the 4GB card will retail for $19.99, 8GB for $29.99, 16GB for $59.99, and the 32GB for $99.99. In addition, you'll be able to get a 4GB card along with a "Pocket Pouch," screen cover, card case, headphones, and cleaning cloth in a $40 "Starter Kit." GameStop still has yet to update its listings, but we're sure it will soon. If it doesn't, you should really look elsewhere.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/22/official-vita-memory-card-pricing-is-slightly-better-than-expect/">Official Vita memory card pricing is slightly better than expected</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Dec 2011 16:00:00 EST. When you grudgingly put your money down for the proprietary PS Vita memory card <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/report-these-are-the-vita-games-that-require-a-memory-card/">you'll need</a>, muttering under your breath about how absurd it is that neither an industry-standard SD card nor Sony's own Memory Stick will work, how much money will you grudgingly put down?<br />
<br />
Up to a hundred and twenty damn dollars, according to GameStop. The retailer has posted listings for four sizes of Vita memory card, including a 4GB card for <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/accessories/4gb-playstation-vita-memory-card/98469?ref=recpdp&amp;cross=801309">$29.99</a>. 8GB for <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/accessories/8gb-playstation-vita-memory-card/98470?ref=recpdp&amp;cross=801271">$44.99</a>, 16GB for <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/accessories/16gb-playstation-vita-memory-card/98471?ref=recpdp&amp;cross=801272">$69.99</a>, and 32GB for the aforementioned <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/accessories/32gb-playstation-vita-memory-card/98472">$119.99</a>.<br />
<br />
That's perfectly in line with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/15/the-hidden-costs-of-playstation-vita-3ds-esque-battery-life-and/">Japanese pricing</a> for the memory cards -- and it's also a strong argument in favor of getting a small card for save data and just buying all your games retail, like you did on the PlayStation 1. Welcome to the future!<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Sony told <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/121/1213432p1.html">IGN</a> that the 4GB cards would actually retail for $24.99 and the 8GB cards for $39.99. However, GameStop has yet to change its prices. Either GameStop had the wrong MSRP, or it had the right MSRP and added a premium -- or Sony saw the response to its suggested memory card pricing and corrected it a bit in our favor.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/28/gamestop-lists-vita-memory-card-prices-start-saving-up-now/">GameStop lists Vita memory card prices (start saving up now) [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Nov 2011 15:40:00 EST. We've all been there: It's 3 am, the guys you share your tiny studio apartment with are zonked out after a hard day's hack-sackin' down on the quad, but you'll be awake for another 6 hours, at least. Now, thanks to the Tritton Detonator from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/madcatz">MadCatz</a> and Microsoft, your bitter, sleep-deprived roommates will only hear the sound of your frantic stick waggling and trigger flicking, as opposed to the gunfire and chainsaws they normally have to deal with.<br />
<br />
The Detonator is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/05/madcatz-launching-warhead-and-other-fancy-xbox-360-headsets/">first in a series</a> of official 360 headphones, and its $80 entry fee delivers a USB cord, stereo sound, a detachable boom mic, voice monitoring capabilities and an in-line volume control for the whole kit-n-caboodle. Its big brother, the wireless, Dolby 7.1 rocking WarHead, is still reportedly on track for a holiday release, although we expect that model to cost a bit closer to the self-imposed $300 limit MadCatz mentioned when the headphones were announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/01/madcatzs-tritton-detonator-now-shipping-detonating/">MadCatz's Tritton Detonator now shipping, detonating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Oct 2011 17:30:00 EST. Logitech has introduced its new G300 mouse, coming to the US and Europe next month. The biggest selling point seems to be that the mouse is ambidextrous, meaning that as the buttons are laid out symmetrically, you can use it with either your right or your left hand. You can also store up to three profiles on the mouse itself (no software needed), and you can even configure the lighting colors to match up to a certain profile, telling you how it's set with just a look.<br />
<br />
There's also a 2500 DPI sensor on the bottom, so your <em>Minecraft</em> blocks will always end up exactly where you place them. The G300 is set to retail for $39.99.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/22/click-and-drag-in-style-with-logitechs-g300-gaming-mouse/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Click and drag in style with Logitech's G300 gaming mouse</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/22/click-and-drag-in-style-with-logitechs-g300-gaming-mouse/">Click and drag in style with Logitech's G300 gaming mouse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Aug 2011 04:00:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/razer">Razer</a> has announced a new line of products to accompany the launch of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/battlefield-3"><em>Battlefield 3</em></a> later this year. For PC players, there's the BlackWidow Ultimate keyboard, which features backlit keys, macro keys and a USB passthrough, among other things. PC users also get the Imperator mouse, which features programmable buttons and a 6400dpi 4G Dual Sensor System, which is <em>a lot</em> of dpis, if you ask us. Finally, there's a mouse pad that features a "fractal 2.0 surface coating" and also, we're guessing, a conveniently flat shape. The keyboard, mouse and pad will be available for $140, $80 and $40 repsectively.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, on the console side of things, the Xbox gets a <em>Battlefield 3</em> edition of the Onza Tournament Edition controller, complete with analog sticks with adjustable resistance. The Onza will run $60. Finally, Razer shifts from gaming accessories to personal accessories with a Battlefield 3 iPhone case and messenger bag for $20 and $80, respectively.<br />
<br />
The entire <em>Battlefield</em> line is expected to launch alongside the game on October 25. Check out the gallery below for entirely too many images.<br />

You've already made the biggest decisions regarding your upcoming acquisition of the Nintendo 3DS: What color should you buy? What launch titles are worth your time and money? Shouldn't you wait for that <em>Zelda</em> jam? However, we'd wager that one of your most important decisions remains unmade: Which <em>accoutrements</em> should your purchase to compliment your new, handheld friend? (That's French for "video game accessories," we believe.)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.powera.com/ds/?section=1">Power A</a> and <a href="http://www.pdp.com/m-2-ds.aspx">PDP</a> have each revealed their Nintendo-licensed suites of cases, chargers and cleaning kits -- all of which are available to order from their respective sites. We're confident that between the two of them, all your needs are accounted for. Need a <a href="http://www.pdp.com/p-988-car-charger-for-the-nintendo-3ds-system.aspx">standalone car charger</a>? No probs. A businesslike, <a href="http://www.powera.com/ds/ds.asp?section=1&amp;prod=075244">faux leather case</a>? Oh, here it is. How about a <a href="http://www.pdp.com/p-991-rainbow-telescoping-stylus-pack.aspx">Rainbow Telescoping Stylus Pack</a>? We don't even know what that is, but <em>we want one</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/26/pdp-and-power-a-reveal-first-batch-of-3ds-accessories/">PDP and Power A reveal first batch of 3DS accessories</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 Mar 2011 14:00:00 EST. One of the biggest shortfalls of the Nintendo <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/3ds">3DS</a>'s feature set is its brief battery life, which Nintendo estimates to be as short as three hours. Where we see a disappointing feature, accessory manufacturer Nyko sees an opportunity.<br />

The company has revealed the $20 Power Pak +, a battery pack that clips to the back of the 3DS and "doubles" the battery life of the unit. It'll be out on launch day. One week later, Nyko will ship the $30 Charge Base, a charging dock for the Power Pak + (one of which is included with the package), that replaces the existing 3DS charging cradle.<br />
<br />
As a bonus, the Power Pak + subtly enhances the 3D-ness of the 3DS -- not by doing anything to the screens, but by making the unit take up more 3D space.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-3ds-power-pak-and-charge-base/">Nyko 3DS Power Pak + and Charge Base</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-3ds-power-pak-and-charge-base/#3958363"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/nyko3901_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/nyko-3ds-power-pak-and-charge-base/#3958364"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/03/nyko3902_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/09/nyko-unveils-accessories-to-extend-3ds-battery-life/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nyko unveils accessories to extend 3DS battery life</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/09/nyko-unveils-accessories-to-extend-3ds-battery-life/">Nyko unveils accessories to extend 3DS battery life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Mar 2011 12:00:00 EST. Just in time to capitalize on the <em>Sims</em> fever that's sweeping the nation, MadCatz has announced it will produce a line of accessories based on the life simulation series for pretty much every platform on the market (including 3DS).<br />
<br />
There are no images or further details on the "wide range" of peripherals, but we'd really appreciate a time-saving controller equipped with a "have sex with all present" button and another macro-button for "lock character in room with no doors or windows until they defecate themselves to death, their last vision the stink lines emanating from their pre-corpse."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/01/madcatz-making-sims-branded-peripherals/">MadCatz making Sims-branded peripherals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Mar 2011 12:28:00 EST. Sony has announced a new version of its latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/sony-to-release-smaller-sleeker-official-ps3-bluetooth-headset/">Bluetooth headset</a>, which is identical to the last release except for its "urban camo" color scheme.<br />
<br />
It'll be available in GameStop stores for $49.99 starting April 19, allowing you to pick up a more militaristic accessory to go with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/27/socom-4-is-so-coming-on-april-19th-gamestop-gets-exclusive-map/">SOCOM 4</a>. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mad-catz">Mad Catz</a> has announced that it's partnering with Microsoft to produce the first "wireless, licensed and co-branded headphones" for the Xbox 360. The headphones will be manufactured under the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/tritton">Tritton</a> brand and will come in both stereo and Dolby 5.1 varieties. They should hit the shelves in time for the 2011 holiday season. <br />
<br />
The press release is short on other details, though hopefully the headphones will pack Microsoft's proprietary wireless tech, allowing them to circumvent the cumbersome setup required by Tritton's current 360 compatible headsets. Like, if the new headsets don't have <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B0017IUFAE/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0?ie=UTF8&amp;index=0">two AC adapters</a>, that would be great.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/02/mad-catz-to-produce-wireless-360-headphones-for-microsoft/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz to produce wireless 360 headphones for Microsoft</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/02/mad-catz-to-produce-wireless-360-headphones-for-microsoft/">Mad Catz to produce wireless 360 headphones for Microsoft</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Feb 2011 16:10:00 EST. But, of course, that would have been exceedingly silly.<br />
<br />
Instead, the typing tutor title will ship with a Bluetooth keyboard that connects to the DS through the Bluetooth-equipped game cartridge. This new peripheral isn't entirely ridiculous (maybe like 90 percent ridiculous) -- according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the prototype keyboard connects to iPhone and Android devices just fine, though Nintendo won't guarantee such compatibility. But if you've been asking for a Nintendo-designed Bluetooth keyboard, here you go!<br />
<br />
Would-be pok&eacute;mon typists will be able to <em>Battle &amp; Get</em> the game and keyboard (its exact size is unknown) in Japan this April. A release outside of Japan has not been announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/pokemon-typing-ds-comes-with-bluetooth-keyboard/">'Pokemon Typing DS' comes with Bluetooth keyboard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Jan 2011 16:00:00 EST. Gear of <em>Gears of War</em>, if you will. The accessories, planned for release this holiday season <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/01/gears-of-war-3-delayed/">alongside the game</a>, include "specialty controllers, headphones" and other unspecified peripherals. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the company has yet to release images, so for now you'll just have to imagine, like, a <em>totally manly</em> headset, and an Xbox controller from which Marcus Fenix's face grimaces at you.<br />
<br />
Mad Catz and Epic previously partnered on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/01/mad-catz-gets-in-on-the-hot-gears-action/">carrying cases and "skinz"</a> for <em>Gears of War </em>and <em><a href="http://gearsofwar2.gameshark.com/">Gears of War 2</a></em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/mad-catz-to-produce-gears-of-war-3-accessories-for-xbox-360/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz to produce Gears of War 3 accessories for Xbox 360</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/mad-catz-to-produce-gears-of-war-3-accessories-for-xbox-360/">Mad Catz to produce Gears of War 3 accessories for Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Jan 2011 03:00:00 EST. Little known fact: 3-<em>Dee</em> is powered by microscopic hamsters on equally microscopic wheels. Not only does the technology's dependency on living organisms <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/3ds-price-compared-to-other-portable-launches/">jack up the price</a>, it also means that the 3DS will require a constant supply of oxygen. It's a good thing, then, that Walmart's <a href="http://www.walmart.com/ip/15735238">3DS pre-order</a> freebie, a Power A-designed case (pictured), has plenty of breathing holes. Just remember to take the device out of its cage every once in awhile -- it needs direct sunlight too!<br />
<br />
You can see more images of the bonus Power A "Flex Case" (a $10 value, you could brag) in Walmart's product gallery. Mad Catz just sent us the first images of the new "BrawlStick" and "BrawlPad" accessories, and we don't know if it's just because we've had months to get used to the idea, but they aren't too shocking!<br />
<br />
Okay, so these are Standard Edition FightSticks and FightPads with exaggerated cartoon pictures of The Rock and Triple H on them. For some reason, we expected to be a lot more weirded out by that sight. They'll be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 alongside the game, with the sticks priced at $79.99 and the pads at $39.99.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-wwe-all-stars-controllers/">Mad Catz WWE All Stars controllers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-wwe-all-stars-controllers/#3804514"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/47187rocktripleh_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-wwe-all-stars-controllers/#3804515"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/88282rocktripleh_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/mad-catzs-wwe-all-stars-brawlstick-and-brawlpad-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz's WWE All Stars 'BrawlStick' and 'BrawlPad' revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/mad-catzs-wwe-all-stars-brawlstick-and-brawlpad-revealed/">Mad Catz's WWE All Stars 'BrawlStick' and 'BrawlPad' revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Jan 2011 14:40:00 EST. <br />
After the break, see how the Avenger uses an elaborate, <em>Mouse Trap</em>-style arrangement to allow access to all of the controller's buttons without moving your thumbs off of the sticks -- ostensibly saving you valuable milliseconds of reaction time. Of course, the adapter requires several <em>minutes</em> of explanation, so perhaps it's a wash.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/n-control-avenger-video-demonstration/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video demonstration makes sense of N-Control Avenger</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/n-control-avenger-video-demonstration/">Video demonstration makes sense of N-Control Avenger</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Jan 2011 20:00:00 EST. Know what your desk, coffee table or car dashboard needs? The iCade. That is if you have an iPad and want a (very) small arcade cabinet to stick it in. Built by ION for internet nerd wares vendor ThinkGeek, the iCade features a special iPad cradle designed to not scuff your precious tablet, along with a ball-top joystick and eight concave buttons.<br />
<br />
If you have the money, space and understanding loved ones to spare, you can pre-order the iCade for $99 <a href="http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/e762/">from ThinkGeek</a>. Shipments begin this spring and include the iCade app, a front-end for (initially) a handful of Atari classics, such as <em>Asteroids</em>, with the promise of more to come. The iCade API is also being provided to iOS devs free of charge, so here's hoping the likes of <a href="http://jwww.joystiq.com/tag/cave">Cave</a> release updates to make their games compatible with this inspired add-on.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/10/ipad-occupies-new-quarters-in-icade-arcade-cabinet/">iPad occupies new quarters in iCade arcade cabinet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Jan 2011 17:30:00 EST. We hope so, because we've got images of new 3DS accessories by Mad Catz. For CES, the company has revealed a line of accessories for the glasses-free 3D handheld including the lunchbox-like, $20 Traveller Bag, designed to hold a system, two styli, and up to 21 games, and the $13 Microsuede Slipcase, a smaller, plush case for the device. Other 3DS accessories not pictured include screen protectors and styli, about which you can find more details after the break.<br />
<br />
The manufacturer also unveiled new Wii controllers: the $35 Reactor and $30 Reactor Plus are new takes on the Wiimote, with the Reactor Plus including MotionPlus built-in. Both will also be available in "Micro" versions for the same price. a "Reflex" Nunchuk-alike will also be available.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-ces-lineup/">Mad Catz CES 2011 lineup</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-ces-lineup/#3752168"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/madcatz161101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-ces-lineup/#3752169"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/madcatz161102_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-ces-lineup/#3752170"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/madcatz161103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mad-catz-ces-lineup/#3752171"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/madcatz161104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/mad-catz-announces-3ds-accessory-line-new-wii-controllers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad Catz announces 3DS accessory line, new Wii controllers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/mad-catz-announces-3ds-accessory-line-new-wii-controllers/">Mad Catz announces 3DS accessory line, new Wii controllers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 20:30:00 EST. Now, there's an exciting new development in the field of fake buttons for touchscreens! The Fling is an analog stick designed to be placed on an iPad's screen, over the virtual joystick. Unlike the Tactile+ Plus, there's no adhesive to apply to your screen -- it uses suction cups.<br />
<br />
The transparent design (with a small accent in your choice of three colors) is designed not to obscure <em>too</em> much of the view, and it comes with a lovely pouch for storage when you aren't playing a game with virtual controls or don't want to be seen with some thing stuck to the screen. If you're desperate enough to be playing games with virtual controls on an iPad, then you're probably at the point where you're willing to try crazy stuff like this. You can pre-order it for $24.95.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/stick-an-analog-stick-to-your-ipad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stick an analog stick to your iPad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/stick-an-analog-stick-to-your-ipad/">Stick an analog stick to your iPad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Jan 2011 16:00:00 EST. <br />
The company's first release, the "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/want-a-weightier-wii-experience-try-riiflex/">Riiflex</a>" dumbbells for Wii Remotes, came out in 2009. The Riiflex is an only child: Power Play shut down before any more products could be put out. According to Holcomb, "In the end, this proved to be the company's downfall because retailers and distributors gravitate towards cheap plastic novelties rather than high end products," due to the high margins of those cheap items. <br />
<br />
In addition, existing relationships between some peripheral companies, distributors, and retail buyers make it surprisingly hard to break into what seems like a wide-open market. Holcomb said that some companies are "joined at the hip" with distributors, and "entrenched in almost every major retail chain."<br />

Holcomb sent Joystiq designs for what were to be Power Play's future products, including adjustable Riiflex dumbbells designed by Holcomb himself, the "Riiflex Kick," designed by <a href="http://creaturellc.com/">Creature</a> and <a href="http://www.enginuityworks.com/">Enginuity Works</a>, a step attachment for the Wii Balance Board that also included storage and acted as a carrying case, and some interesting iPhone controllers, including a gamepad designed by <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/gregaper">Greg Aper</a> with assistance from Enginuity Works and a gun shell designed by Holcomb (which was intended either to interface with an iPad or iPod -- or include its own secondary screen!) The Neo Geo Pad USB is a replica of the pad included with the Neo Geo CD system, with two important differences: it ends in a USB connector, so it will work with the PS3 or PC; and it has a PS button and two extra face buttons for L1 and R1 -- laid out in a nice, <em>Street Fighter</em>-friendly manner.<br />
<br />
The pad is currently on backorder at both <a href="http://www.shopncsx.com/neogeopadusb.aspx">NCSX</a> and <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/NeoGeo_Pad_USB/paOS-13-71-zl-49-en-70-3xf7.html">Play-Asia</a>, but it'll cost in the neighborhood of $50 when it's in stock. If you'd prefer, you can get a PS3 version of the Neo Geo arcade stick from NCSX right now for <a href="http://www.shopncsx.com/neogeostick2.aspx">$39.90</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/17/snk-releases-neo-geo-pad-for-ps3/">SNK releases Neo Geo pad for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Dec 2010 08:30:00 EST. If you look through the pages of deals, you'll hit upon some highlights like the Mad Catz Xbox 360 <em>Street Fighter IV</em> Round 2 Tournament Edition FightStick for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Street-Fighter-FightStick-Tournament/dp/B002V0WKXM/ref=br_lf_m_1000208101_3_60_ttl?ie=UTF8&amp;m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;s=videogames&amp;pf_rd_p=1283346362&amp;pf_rd_s=center-2&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_r=0P185QTK1WZE5V5PZS40">$105</a> andthe Hori PS3 Fighting Stick 3 for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Fighting-Stick-3-Playstation/dp/B000MWE3BI/ref=br_lf_m_1000208101_3_72_ttl?ie=UTF8&amp;m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;s=videogames&amp;pf_rd_p=1283346362&amp;pf_rd_s=center-2&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_r=0P185QTK1WZE5V5PZS40">$30</a>. <br />
<br />
But our personal highlight is right there on the front page. Hori's wonderful Dragon Quest Slime Speaker Stand for DS, which is a DS stand with a speaker in it, that is shaped like a Slime from <em>Dragon Quest, </em>and is on sale for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Dragon-Quest-Slime-Speaker/dp/B003O7T9BW/ref=br_lf_m_1000208101_1_3_ttl?ie=UTF8&amp;m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;s=videogames&amp;pf_rd_p=1283346362&amp;pf_rd_s=center-2&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_r=01BRJ9RYDXN02BMH3T7S">$30</a>. The XtendPlay attachment adds a big block of foam to the bottom of your controller, apparently to both make your grip on your controller more comfortable and allow you to rest the whole thing in your lap more easily. Or something. <br />
<br />
Creator Xwerx likens the development to the invention of the baseball glove. "So the question we put to you is: why are you still bare-handing your controller?" "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/17/the-guy-with-the-half-million-gamerscore/">Stallion83</a>," who has over 500,000 Gamerscore, <a href="http://www.xwerxonline.com/blogs/news/2336762-the-best-gamer-in-the-world">likes the device</a> (or likes his endorsement deal), and he knows a thing or two about holding a controller for way too long.<br />
<br />
The $20 ... things ... ship "in 2 weeks," according to the website, and are available for pre-order now. Still not convinced? Check out a trailer after the break. You really need to see this in motion.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/xtendplay-extends-your-xbox-360-or-ps3-controller-vertically/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>XtendPlay extends your Xbox 360 or PS3 controller, vertically</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/02/xtendplay-extends-your-xbox-360-or-ps3-controller-vertically/">XtendPlay extends your Xbox 360 or PS3 controller, vertically</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Dec 2010 21:00:00 EST. It's difficult to execute a Hadouken -- or <em>any</em> special maneuver, for that matter -- on the iPhone version of <em>Street Fighter IV</em> without keeping a constant eye on the on-screen controls. It's a problem that many games on touchscreened smartphones suffer from; fortunately, it's a problem that can be solved with a little <em>outside the box</em> thinking. Why not just <em>add</em> some buttons to your phone using the reusable Tactile+Plus sticker set pictured above?<br />
<br />
The stickers, which can be ordered from Japanese cellular accessory store <a href="http://www.strapya-world.com/products/40381.html">Strapya</a> for $7.40, add translucent nubs to your screen, giving your stupid thumbs a decent idea of where they're positioned at all times. Sounds like a decent investment for people who do a lot of gaming on their phones -- just make sure you take them off once gaming time is over, as "translucent nubbin stickers" probably reduce any handheld device's sexiness factor to <em>negative </em><em>thirty</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/21/touchscreen-phones-get-psuedo-buttons-with-tactile-plus-stickers/">Touchscreen phones get psuedo-buttons with Tactile Plus stickers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 21 Nov 2010 18:00:00 EST. CTA Digital <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/04/cta-digitals-move-accessories-range-from-useful-to-gloves/">continues its domination of all PlayStation Move accessories</a> with the release of <a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2877">the PlayStation Move Racing Wheel with stand</a>. As you can see above, the wheel comes with a slot across the center to store a Move wand, thus making you feel as if you're using a plastic wheel rather than one, you know, made <em>out of air</em>.<br />
<br />
We kid, actually -- the grip can instead hold a DualShock 3 (with SIXAXIS!) controller, so if you want to use it for tilt steering rather than motion control, you can do that as well. The wheel also detaches from the stand if you'd rather just hold it by itself. And we don't know how cheap it is yet, since there's no MSRP listed. For more information (and a chuckle at the expense of some poor commercial actors -- <em>"COOLER!"</em>), head after the break for a promotional video.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/">Racing Wheel w/ Stand (PS3)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546033"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rws3qcntrllo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546034"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rws3qdualshocklo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546035"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rwssidedowndualshocklo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546036"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rwssideupcntrllo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/racing-wheel-w-stand-ps3/#3546037"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/psm-rwssideupdualshocklo_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/06/playstation-move-racing-wheel-adds-mass-to-your-motion/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PlayStation Move Racing Wheel adds mass to your motion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/06/playstation-move-racing-wheel-adds-mass-to-your-motion/">PlayStation Move Racing Wheel adds mass to your motion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Nov 2010 06:30:00 EST. That's 73.2 percent higher than Q2 of last year. Operating profit was $1.9 million -- another record, and obviously preferable to last year's negative $200,000.<br />
<br />
Xbox 360 sales accounted for the largest percentage of sales, 37 percent in all. PS3 sales grew one percent, and everything else shrunk in proportion. The biggest-selling category of items wasn't <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fightstick">FightSticks</a>, as might be expected, or even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/10/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2s-mad-catz-peripherals-accessori/"><em>Modern Warfare 2</em>-branded controllers</a> -- it was audio products, including those made by new acquisition <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/01/mad-catz-acquires-headset-manufacturer-tritton-technologies/">Tritton</a>. Specialty controllers were the next best sellers.<br />
<br />
"While second quarter net sales benefited from initial shipments of <em>Rock Band</em> products and our recently acquired Tritton gaming audio line," said Mad Catz president Darren Richardson, "it's important to note that, thanks to our strong portfolio of new products across all our brands, we would still report growth for the quarter if both those product lines were excluded from our sales."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/05/mad-catz-reports-record-q2-sales-led-by-tritton-peripherals/">Mad Catz reports record Q2 sales, led by Tritton peripherals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Nov 2010 01:15:00 EST. If you've elected to drop a few wads of cash on acquiring the new keyboard and Mustang guitar peripherals so you can enjoy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3"><em>Rock Band 3</em>'s</a> newest features, you've secretly invested in a pair of fully functional MIDI instruments as well. <a href="http://createdigitalmusic.com/2010/10/27/hands-on-rock-band-3s-keytar-a-surprisingly-serious-80-midi-keyboard/">Create Digital Music</a>, a site dedicated to -- well, you can figure it out -- recently reviewed the two devices' capacity for real-life rocking; and surprisingly, they're both <em>very</em> capable in that regard.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://createdigitalmusic.com/2010/10/27/rock-band-3-fender-mustang-pro-midi/">Mustang guitar</a> may not have the authenticity of real strings, but at $150, it's one of the most affordable MIDI guitars on the planet. With Synth and Strum input modes, it could have some interesting applications for those creative types. The <a href="http://createdigitalmusic.com/2010/10/27/hands-on-rock-band-3s-keytar-a-surprisingly-serious-80-midi-keyboard/">keyboard</a> also received high marks for its ergonomic form factor and velocity-sensitive keys. In short, it's not the best keyboard on the planet, but it <em>can</em> (and <em>should</em>) be used as an actual keytar. Why haven't you bought this yet? You're wasting everyone's time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/29/rock-band-3-peripherals-tested-as-midi-instruments/">Rock Band 3 peripherals tested as MIDI instruments</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Oct 2010 05:13:00 EST. Sure, the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/razer-announces-line-of-tournament-grade-starcraft-ii-peripher/">StarCraft 2</a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/12/razer-announces-line-of-tournament-grade-starcraft-ii-peripher/">-branded</a> Spectre mouse, Marauder keyboard and Banshee headset from Razer (all designed in collaboration with Blizzard) have other features that make them well-suited for games -- like specialized configuration utilities and quick response times -- but those aren't why anyone would buy one of these. Cool backlighting <em>is</em>.<br />
<br />
Besides, when the keyboard description lists things like "Optimized Key Travel Distance" as a selling point, "pretty lights" doesn't seem like such a minor thing to latch on to. The set will be released in the US, Europe and Korea in November, with the mouse retailing for $80 (&euro;80/94,800 won), and the keyboard and headset for $120 (&euro;120/142,800 won) each.<br />

The so-called "first step" in a PlayStation-specific audio system will be released next week for $180, and you're looking at it. The "Surround Sound System," like most sound bars, mimics true surround sound through 2.1 audio channels (this one has an integrated sub). While the PlayStation-brand sound bar is compatible with other audio sources, its been designed to match the "PS3 system aesthetics" and features two gaming-specific modes, "Dialog" and "Night" (which enhances key sounds when the volume is turned down).<br />
<br />
"The sound bar is the first step for us to develop an audio system that's specific to the PlayStation," Sony's David Murrant says somewhat curiously in a marketing spot for the system (embedded after the break). Of the Dialog sound mode, Murrant adds, "Often dialog is going to be key to knowing what the next stage for the game is or giving you clues."<br />

It's designed to work with both the DSi and DSi XL, and will sell on Amazon for $40. Microsoft's Kinect may have jettisoned controllers from the living room, but <a href="http://www.atomic-accessories.com/english/index.htm">Atomic Accessories</a> isn't ready to be swept away in a sea change. "Game Boat is de facto the first accessory for the peripheral which doesn't need any," mumbles the product description, tasting the cold steel of a gun barrel. "Ideal to comfortably play in 2 gamers simultaneously, still without being clumsy in the living room." <br />
<br />
<em>Hey, Martha. I love what you've done with the place! It seems so elegant now, which is the opposite of clumsy. The giant dinghy centerpiece really ties it all together and -- oh, are these stitched barnacle cushions on your whale couch? I love it.<br />
</em><br />
Perhaps we're being unfair and ignorant of the real genius behind the Game Boat -- as a brilliant plan to save face. Remember when the head of product acquisition got drunk out of his mind because his cat choked on a stapler? "Sir, I don't think we need that many. Or any," Susan argued. But noooooo. "Shooshan, order the goh, goddamn boatsh! Twenty twelf ish jusht around the bender. You shaw the mooovie."<br />
<br />
Aside from the tenuous anchoring provided by <em>Kinect Adventures</em> (which features people standing in a boat as they hurtle through an unrealistic river slalom), the Game Boat is tethered to the "reality of your home" because, well, it's so gosh-darn useful. It's easily inflated within minutes with the included pump, compatible with any model Xbox 360 (and <em>possibly</em> other systems), supports two seated people, and is fully functional "at the sea or at the pool." Why? <br />
<br />
<strong>BECAUSE. IT IS. A BOAT.</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/game-boat-accessory-ideal-for-kinect-adventures-perfect-for-t/">Game Boat 'accessory' ideal for Kinect Adventures, perfect for the reality of your home</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Oct 2010 19:00:00 EST. What is a motion controller without nifty attachments that make it look like real life objects? <em>Nothing</em>, that's what -- a point driven home by <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/cta-digital">CTA Digital</a>'s latest PlayStation Move accessories. The "<a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2870">Perfect Aim Pistol</a>" gives your Move controller that firearm look and feel, while CTA claims it's also light enough to prevent dreaded light-gun fatigue. Meanwhile, the aptly named "<a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2871">Submachine Gun</a>" offers a heftier military experience, housing both the Move and companion Navigation Controller; and it even features a removable stock and scope. The pistol and submachine gun can be pre-ordered on Amazon for <a href="http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Move-Perfect-Pistol-Playstation-3/dp/B00440D2FC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1286384968&amp;sr=8-1">$15</a> and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Move-Submachine-Gun-3/dp/B0045Y19IO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1286384958&amp;sr=8-1">$30</a>, respectively.<br />
<br />
Whether either trumps <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/playstation-move-shooting-attachment-is-groovy/">Sony's own</a>, Earthworm Jim-style gun shell, well, that comes down to personal preference.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/06/cta-pulls-the-trigger-on-playstation-move-gun-attachments/">CTA pulls the trigger on Move gun attachments</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Oct 2010 16:50:00 EST. Kevin Butler and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/16/subway-restaurants-offer-early-access-to-playstation-move-in-new/">Subway</a> aren't the only ones excited for the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/playstation-move">PlayStation Move</a>. Peripheral companies, like Hyperkin, are getting ready to unleash a salvo of plastic accessories that "enhance" the motion gaming experience on PS3. Like the Wii, Move will be home to a number of absurd attachables, like the ones featured in the "<a href="http://hyperkin.com/index.php/playstation-3/ps3-hyperkin-sports-victory-set.html">Sports Victory Set</a>" (pictured above). For $30, you'll be able to get a dagger, shield, bow and table tennis paddle, designed with <em>Sports Champions</em> in mind.<br />
<br />
For $25, you'll be able to invest in Hyperkin's "<a href="http://hyperkin.com/index.php/playstation-3/ps3-hyperkin-special-ops-shooter.html">Special Ops Shooter</a>," which transforms your Move controller into (you guessed it!) a gun. Hopefully, it won't be long until companies like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cta-digital/">CTA Digital</a> make some PS3-compatible <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/29/play-mario-kart-wii-in-your-very-own-inflatable-kart/">inflatable karts</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/28/become-a-sports-champion-with-the-sports-victory-set-for-plays/">Become a Sports Champion with the 'Sports Victory' set for PlayStation Move</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 28 Aug 2010 14:00:00 EST. For those of you who want to pay even more to play <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-fight-lights-out"><em>The Fight: Lights Out</em></a>, CTA offers the <a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2860">Ultimate Boxing Gloves</a> -- a set of fingerless gloves into which you can secure the Move controllers. The Wii has the wrist strap, but thanks to CTA, Move has the elusive <em>palm strap</em>.<br />
<br />
The other new accessory is actually pretty slick-looking, and even practical: it's a charge cradle designed for one Move controller, one <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/move-navigation-controller-can-be-replaced-by-dualshock/">Navigation Controller</a>, and one Dual Shock 3. For the one-Move household, this actually appears to be an ideal charging setup. The company also offers two other configurations for Move charging: one for just the <a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2859">Move and the Navigation Controller</a>, and one for <a href="http://www.ctadigital.com/item.asp?item=2858">two Moves and two Navigation Controllers</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/04/cta-digitals-move-accessories-range-from-useful-to-gloves/">CTA Digital's Move accessories range from 'useful' to 'gloves'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Aug 2010 05:00:00 EST. <br />
Our first impulse is to make fun of this unnecessary accessory (an "unnecessory," if you will), but two things give us pause:
<ol>
    <li>CTA is using the item's marketing to publicize <a href="http://www.kidsareheroes.org/">Kids are Heroes</a>, an organization that encourages community involvement among kids -- even going so far as to use <a href="http://www.kidsareheroes.org/Ricky-Springer.htm">Ricky Springer</a>, who races real karts to raise money and awareness for Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorder, as a spokesman.</li>
    <li>Unlike other plastic Wii accessories, there is no doubt in our minds that if our six-year-old selves had seen an inflatable car you could use as a game controller, we would have <em>freaked out</em>.</li>
