It has been a long, long time since we heard anything about the Xbox 360 version of the Funcom MMO Age of Conan. Considering the spate of bad news about Funcom and AOC lately, we were half convinced that the project had been shelved altogether. Not so, apparently, as Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas told gamesindustry.biz that the title was still in the works, saying, "We had high expectations when we first set out to do a console version of Age of Conan, and these remain high." He added that Funcom is working to tailor the experience to the console, saying that the 360 version should boast "most, if not all of the content and improvements that have been made to the PC version of the game."

Just when we should expect to see Age of Conan on the 360, Arne Aas did not say.
An MMOG's health is indicated by its server numbers, which means Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is currently ailing. Funcom's new Game Director for AoC, Craig Morrison, writes on the game's forums that server merging, in both Europe and North America, will soon occur.

At one point Funcom announced that AoC had 700,000 players, but that was when the game first shipped and players had a free trial month with the purchase. It's not just the players leaving -- Funcom investors also seem to be looking for the nearest exit. The company's stock is currently trading at $5, which is $20 down from when we checked in late July and $50 down from before AoC shipped.*

*The downward trend was already occuring prior to the current global economic crisis.
Age of Conan servers merging, stock hits 2-year low originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 10:25:00 EST. Funcom was at this year's Dragon*Con in force with demos of their upcoming MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. While the game isn't slated for release until March 2008 (we hope), the game Funcom showed us looked pretty slick -- though they're still tight-lipped on the feat system (that would be "talent trees" for you World of Warcraft-ers) and the "spell weaving" system the magic users will have access to. We did, however, get a good look at the gameplay as well as a look at the game's female models. For those of you who have to see these things for yourself, Funcom is accepting applications for beta-testers, but for full details on what we saw at Funcom's demo, keep reading!
In other words, Funcom plans to allow PC players to play with Xbox 360 players of AOC. The developer admits that there will be issues that must be ironed out before this can be accomplished, but they do intend to include cross-platform functionality in the game. One considered method for cross-platform play is to have both shared servers and servers that are exclusive either to 360 players or PC players. This way, players could decide whether or not they'd care to play with other platform users or keep it restricted to one.

The PC version of Age of Conan is expected in October, with the 360 version following afterwards.
Age of Conan could mix PC and 360 players originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Feb 2007 16:15:00 EST.
