<em>Darksiders: Wrath of War</em> won me over at a recent THQ game-preview event. I hadn't heard of the game before, but maybe I just forgot because of its premise.<br /><br />"Wouldn't it be cool if we had a game where you ride around as one of the four horseman of the apocalypse, just beating the crap out of anything you encounter?" One gaming exec might say to another. The second might reply, "Sounds great. Let's make it an open world, kind of a <em>GTA</em>-meets-<em>Left Behind</em>-meets-<em>Spawn</em>. Also, let's give ourselves raises."<br /><br /><em>Darksiders</em> looks like it'll pull off this eye-rolling premise with impressive style and genuine action. I wasn't given a chance to play, but after watching two live demos, I'm anticipating this early-2009 game.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/darksiders/">Darksiders</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/darksiders/#737586"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/darksiders_thq_event9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/darksiders/#737585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/darksiders_thq_event7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/darksiders/#737584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/darksiders_thq_event8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/darksiders/#737583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/darksiders_thq_event10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/darksiders/#737582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/darksiders_thq_event11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/joystiq-impressions-darksiders-wrath-of-war-360-ps3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq impressions: Darksiders: Wrath of War (360/PS3)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/04/joystiq-impressions-darksiders-wrath-of-war-360-ps3/">Joystiq impressions: Darksiders: Wrath of War (360/PS3)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 21:00:00 EST. Christopher Ferguson, a Ph.D faculty member at the university's department of behavioral, applied sciences and criminal justice, conducted a "meta-analysis" of studies associating violent video game exposure with aggressive behaviors. A look at the overall result of studies in the field showed violent video games increase people's aggressive thoughts, not necessarily action.<br /><br />That's like if you watch a comedy it increases funny thoughts, or after watching a melodrama it increases Japanese RPG thoughts. For the violent game studies to have some validity, the key is for a study to prove that violent video games don't just cause thoughts of violence, but violence itself.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/19/study-evidence-low-that-video-games-cause-violence/">Study: Evidence low that video games cause violence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 19 Feb 2007 13:15:00 EST.
