For <em>Gravity Rush</em>, this means creating a large, lush world with multiple, vertical layers and buildings, done with a line drawing method that makes structures more easily recognized, art director Yoshiaki Yamaguchi writes on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/05/02/the-art-of-ps-vitas-gravity-rush/">PS Blog</a>.<br /><br />"The direction we chose to use for the game's graphics conveys the necessary information with exaggeration that matches the player's sensation," Yamaguchi says. "Taking that into consideration, we also wanted to use line drawings, the characteristic of BD and the simulation of beautiful air effects. I think the broader the game art expression becomes, the more interactive a game becomes."<br /><br />The hue of the sky and concept of a living background, as Yamaguchi has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/09/art-in-service-of-gameplay-gravity-rush/">previously gushed about</a>, look to bring <em>Gravity Rush</em>'s art full circle, even in its initial stages in the 2008 concept video above.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/02/gravity-rushs-love-affair-with-the-bande-dessinee-art-style/">Gravity Rush's love affair with the 'bande dessinee' art style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 May 2012 21:00:00 EST. I just happened to be in the neighborhood this week while on a month-long trek across Europe, so I paid my 5 &euro; along with the 10 &euro; museum admission for the audio guide, and was handed a Korean Air-branded black 3DS and a pair of headphones on the way to go see some of the world's finest art.<br /> <br /> The 3DS isn't the only portable device in use as a museum tour guide. While visiting the Mus&eacute;e d'Orsay last week, I was handed an iPod touch in a special security case, and walked around among the works of French impressionists while using Apple's device to hear insights in English. And I've used quite a few other audio guides on this trip - in London, Westminster Abbey and the Royal Observatory both used custom-made audio guide systems, with a keypad and a play button to choose certain audio tracks for various sights on the tour.<br /> <br /> But the 3DS was definitely the only gaming-specific device I've seen in use so far. And because of all of the various technologies included, specifically the wireless features, it actually did a great job.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/3ds-louvre-audioguide/">3DS Louvre Audioguide</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/3ds-louvre-audioguide/#4974633"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/3dslouvresized01-1334834073-1334864244_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/3ds-louvre-audioguide/#4974634"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/3dslouvresized02-1334834086-1334864247_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/3ds-louvre-audioguide/#4974635"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/3dslouvresized03-1334834100-1334864250_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/3ds-louvre-audioguide/#4974636"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/3dslouvresized04-1334834112-1334864252_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/3ds-louvre-audioguide/#4974637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/3dslouvresized05-1334834120-1334864255_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/touring-the-louvre-with-a-3ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Touring the Louvre with a 3DS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/19/touring-the-louvre-with-a-3ds/">Touring the Louvre with a 3DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Apr 2012 15:00:00 EST. We at Joystiq believe no one deserves to starve, and many indie developers are entitled to a fridge full of tasty, fulfilling media coverage, right here. This week, Jon Powell of Jonathan Powell Productions (wonder if he's related...) explains the strokes of genius behind the brush strokes in his stylized iOS sidescroller, <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paintscape/id491589853?mt=8"><em>PaintScape</em></a>.</font></small></div><hr size="2" style="padding-left: 5px; " width="100%" /><div style="text-align: center; "></div><div style="text-align: center; "> <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="299" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Hn9C91CkzAs" width="530"></iframe><br /> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/20/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-paintscape/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/paintscape-screen-3.jpg" style="display:none; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 4px; margin-right: 4px; margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; " /></a></div><br /><strong>What's your game called and what's it about?</strong><br /><br />Our game is called <em>PaintScape</em> and is a hyper-artistic take on the 2D-sidecroller shooter. You play as a feisty girl in a shoe tasked with wiping out the ever-bland black-and-white world! It's out right now on all iOS devices.<br /><br /><strong><em>PaintScape</em> seems as if it was a major collaboration, between you, an artist, photographer, programmer and some musicians -- were all of these people friends of yours or did you seek out their talents?</strong><br /><br />They were all people I'd met over the years and we've shared many a drink. The artist, Meghan Meier, is actually my tattoo artist going on almost a decade, and my band, Prepare the Joust, did the soundtrack. I was really fortunate to have known such a pool of talent and they were all so fun to work with. It's great because what starts as an idea at a BBQ can become a reality, and that's a truly awesome thing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/20/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-paintscape/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Joystiq Indie Pitch: PaintScape</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/20/the-joystiq-indie-pitch-paintscape/">The Joystiq Indie Pitch: PaintScape</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Mar 2012 23:30:00 EST. In Japan, however, the game has been out since early February, freeing up art director Yoshiaki Yamaguchi to present his work on the already completed game to a room of GDC 2012 attendees this morning. <br /><br />Yamaguchi spoke of how cel shading and creating a living world helped to service the project's open world gameplay. "The color of the sky provides information about location or acts as sort of like a symbol for that place. However, just simply applying a layer of color would be too direct or too strong, and may even feel out of place," he said. "So we crafted this atmospheric sort of simulation to give it a more natural feel and appeal." <br /><br />The result, as shown off during the presentation, is a vibrant, painterly world that can be fully interacted with by the player. Yamaguchi said the team at Sony's Japan Studio pushed for an open world from the beginning of the project, as seen in the first concept video above (revealed for the first time during his GDC panel). <br /><br />The game's main character saw more of an evolution than the game world, in fact. Seen after the break, Kat saw several iterations before the team settled on a definitive look that would represent a "strong female" as well as a "strong ninja."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/09/art-in-service-of-gameplay-gravity-rush/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Art in service of gameplay: Gravity Rush</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/09/art-in-service-of-gameplay-gravity-rush/">Art in service of gameplay: Gravity Rush</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Mar 2012 16:35:00 EST. The fourth in the series of popular RPGs (<em>Etrian Odyssey 3</em> arrived in North America last year) will have <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2012/02/21/etrian-odyssey-iv-sailing-to-3ds-with-more-approachable-casual-difficulty-level/">an easier casual difficulty setting</a>, and will boast seven different classes, including Rune Masters, Medics, Snipers, Swordsmen, Fortress units, and Dancers.<br /><br />Art for the game is being provided by Nizo Yamamoto (one of the artists on <em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119698/">Princess Mononoke</a></em>). Etrian Odyssey veterans Yuji Himukai, Shin Nagasawa, and Yuzu Koshiro are also on board. Daisuke Kaneda, taking reins as game director, served as battle advisor on the original game and directed <em>Trauma Team</em>.<br /><br />Atlus says the game will be out in Japan on July 5. Since older Etrian Odysseys have eventually found their way over to North America, there's a chance we'll see this one here too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/28/etrian-odyssey-iv-coming-to-the-3ds-in-japan-classes-detailed/">Etrian Odyssey IV coming to the 3DS in Japan, classes detailed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Feb 2012 02:30:00 EST. The latest trailer for <em>Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning</em> adds color commentary to the artistic choices its design team made during development, delving into the thought process of world creation and character design. Jason Brockert is traditionally a landscape painter, but one day he noticed a Star Wars Stormtrooper figurine sitting on his shelf, and decided to try painting it. "The first one came out terrible," he says. "A week later, I was like I'll try again. The second one, I was like oh, that's kind of cool. And it was a lot of fun, too. I had more fun doing that then I'd had in six months."<br />
	<br />
	He <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/american-icons-at-iam8bit/#/17">finished the Stormtrooper painting</a> a little while after that, and then decided to do more figures, and then old game consoles and cartridges, collecting them on eBay and then painting them in his elaborate, almost idealistic way. "Those were the two things I loved as a kid," says Brockert, "and the things I wanted to recollect, that my mother had thrown away I don't know how long ago."<br />
	<br />
	Brockert's work is currently on display in <a href="http://iam8bit.com/the-gallery/">a show called "American Icons"</a> at the iam8bit gallery in Los Angeles' Echo Park. All of his works and prints are available for purchase, and the Exhibition (most of which you can see below) runs through December 18.<br />

The Tomb Raider franchise celebrated its 15th anniversary (which is crystal, by the way -- get your mom, girlfriend, wife, sister or sister-wives something from Swarovski, cheapskate) with an artistic tribute to Lara Croft, featuring digital renditions from eight legacy artists and newcomers. Artists include the current senior art director for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/tomb-raider-2012"><em>Tomb Raider</em></a>, Brian Horton; Jonathan Jacques-Bellet&ecirc;te, art director for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>; and the final artist, Toby Card, who designed the original Lara Croft back in 1995.<br />

The <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/starcraft-2"><em>StarCraft 2</em></a> preview for <em>Heart of the Swarm</em> on display at BlizzCon 2011 last week was pretty much <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/starcraft-2-heart-of-the-swarm-preview-kerrigan-again/">the same thing we saw</a> a few months ago on the Blizzard campus. Fun as it was, we instead used our short time talking with with Blizzard's lead art director Samwise Dider to have him let us in on just how Blizzard is able to make <em>StarCraft</em>'s three races so darn iconic.<br />
<br />
His answer was pretty simple. "Protoss," he says, "they're basically elliptical and circular. Terran are basically angular and square, and Zerg are very erratic and organic and spiky." Sounds plain enough. But when one of the game's new units (specifically the Protoss' Tempest, a strong capital ship with some heavy anti-zerg ability) showed up on the screen during the Opening Ceremony, players immediately knew the 'toss were getting a new toy. Is it as easy as shapes?<br />
<br />
"With Protoss," says Didier, "as long as you have a few of the basic things; big golden arcs and sweeping sort of angelic-looking wings and surfaces, you can make almost anything into Protoss. With Terran, they're all about the clunkiness, boxes, utilitarian. You take em out of the box, they're ready to go."<br />
<br />
And the Zerg? They're "just a gumbo of teeth and snot and bile," according to Didier. "We wrap them in the movement of a snake or a spider or a roach, there's your Zerg stuff." Boiling these races down into their elements like that is just another reason why this company, and its games, are so incredibly popular. "It's very easy to tell these races apart, because they are so diametrically opposed," Didier concludes, before deconstructing the series completely: "Gold, gray, brown."<br />

The newly announced <em>Mists of Pandaria</em> expansion for Blizzard's<em> World of Warcraft </em>finally brings <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Pandaren">the long-awaited Pandaren race</a> to the fantasy world of Azeroth, and while many players have been waiting to see pandas officially implemented into the game, no one, perhaps, has been waiting longer than <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samwise_Didier">Samwise Didier</a>. Blizzard's longtime art director originally created the race in his own art, and up until this release, they existed only in bits and pieces of legends inside the games, as little in-jokes or secrets.<br />
<br />
"It's very personal to me," Didier tells us at BlizzCon this week. "It all started with a picture done for Christmas after the birth of my daughter." Since that first piece of concept art, the Pandaren have always been a fan favorite race (combining a heady mix of panda humanoids, Eastern-style religions and mythology, and even beer brewing monks), and while Didier is quick to point out that lots of people are working on <em>Mists of Pandaria</em>, he's thrilled to see his personal creation come to virtual life. "I'm not trying to take away" credit for the expansion, he says, quickly acknowledging all of the creative folks at Blizzard, "however many it takes to make a game. But it's nice to know that some goofy thought in my head, done for that reason, for my kid, turned into this."<br />
<br />
Does the portrayal live up to what Didier envisioned? "Yeah, and then some," he says. "There was only a few Pandaren pictures, and most of them were of <a href="http://www.wowwiki.com/Chen_Stormstout">Chen [Stormstout]</a>, a big fat sweaty heavy, beer-drinking Pandaren. Well that's not the entire society. He's sort of the anomaly. He likes to go to the outside world. So what do the normal Pandarens do, what is their normal culture like? A lot of sweat went into designing that."<br />
<br />
But Didier does say that whenever the expansion finally arrives, and the race long hidden in <em>Warcraft</em>'s shadows finally gets their time in the spotlight, he'll be proud they're there. "It was one of the last things that I really wanted to see in <em>World of Warcraft</em>, which is <em>Warcraft</em> in general," he says, after having worked on some of the most iconic designs in Blizzard's legendary game franchises. "Now I can almost say, well, I think I've done good with <em>Warcraft</em> -- they're finally in."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/world-of-warcrafts-samwise-didier-talks-about-finally-bringing/">World of Warcraft's Samwise Didier talks about finally bringing his Pandaren to life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Oct 2011 19:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.72pins.com/">72 Pins</a> has recreated modern classics by designing custom NES cartridges to feature hit games of the post-8-bit world, <a href="http://blog.72pins.com/assets">as seen above</a>. These time-warped squares of nostalgia are awesome art installments -- not actual remade games -- although the cart's original game is intact. Think of it as buying a piece of art and getting a used game thrown in for free.<br />
<br />
Available redesigned cartridges include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/god-of-war/"><em>God of War</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dead-space"><em>Dead Space</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo"><em>Halo</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/bioshock"><em>BioShock</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/shadow-of-the-colossus"><em>Shadow of the Colossus</em></a> and others, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/super-meat-boy"><em>Super Meat Boy</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/castle-crashers"><em>Castle Crashers</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/parappa-the-rapper"><em>PaRappa the Rapper</em></a> coming soon. All cartridges run $20, but follow <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/72_pins">72 Pins on Twitter</a> for some sweet deals, such as <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/72_Pins/status/119961191702474754">today's</a>, which is a code for 50 percent off an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> cartridge.<br />
<br />
Suggested uses for NES-cartridge art include wallpapering, bookshelf-filling, 3D-sculpture building, framing and wall-hanging, or sprawling carelessly across your table at the local coffee shop to complete that old-school hipster vibe your thick-rimmed glasses, plaid button-up and copy of the Communist Manifesto have been trying to attain for months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/01/nes-cartridge-art-from-72-pins-makes-retro-games-new-new-games/">NES-cartridge art from 72 Pins makes retro games new, new games retro</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Oct 2011 16:30:00 EST. For an after-hours comedy network, <a href="http://www.adultswim.com/blog/galleries/pixel-grease-super-iam8bit.html">Adult Swim</a> takes its video games very seriously; its article on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-iam8bit/">SUPER iam8bit</a> gallery presents the show as if the most imaginative pages from our childhood diaries were brought to life and thrown onto the streets of Los Angeles. The article delves into the inspirations behind a few iam8bit artists, who seem to agree that the pixelated, lo-fi graphics of classic video games make them catalysts for creativity and imagination, even today.<br />

	If you don't already feel completely unhip for not yet attending the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/super-iam8bit/">SUPER iam8bit</a> exhibition in Los Angeles, this video will help depress you to the appropriate levels of self-loathing. The new SUPER iam8bit gallery in Echo Park looks like a little slice of gamer heaven on the West Coast, and if those lines are anything to judge by, <em>los angeles</em> can't wait to get in.<br />
	<br />
	The show runs until September 10, so if you like what you see in the video above and additional artwork below, head down to Cali and check out founder Jon Gibson's gaming gallery. Gibson plans on hosting a myriad of events in his new space, and we'll be on the lookout for news about chiptune concerts and screenings of <em>Super Mario Bros.</em> in the near future.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/watch-super-iam8bit-host-more-than-1-000-gamers-on-opening-night/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch SUPER iam8bit host more than 1,000 gamers on opening night, be jealous</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/watch-super-iam8bit-host-more-than-1-000-gamers-on-opening-night/">Watch SUPER iam8bit host more than 1,000 gamers on opening night, be jealous</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Aug 2011 18:30:00 EST. Using a Kinect sensor and a series of Arduino motors, modern artists Jan M. Sieber and Ralph Kistler have created the <em>greatest thing ever</em>: <a href="http://www.subtours.com/cms/node/76">a stuffed monkey</a> which you control with your own movements. Just click past the jump, dummy. You're wasting valuable monkey-watching time.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/12/make-a-stuffed-monkey-dance-with-kinect/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Make a stuffed monkey dance with Kinect</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/12/make-a-stuffed-monkey-dance-with-kinect/">Make a stuffed monkey dance with Kinect</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Aug 2011 15:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/12/super-iam8bit-debuts-los-angeles-gallery-space-begins-monthlong/"><img alt="Art from the new Super iam8bit show" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/superiam8bitexhibition.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 0px;" /></a></div>
iam8bit founder Jon Gibson says the opening of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/03/super-iam8bit-exhibition-and-book-debut-august-11/">the new Super iam8bit art show</a> in Los Angeles' Echo Park neighborhood this week is really about a "rebirth." Iam8bit is not only premiering over 100 new pieces by artists inspired by old-school video games, but it's also showing off a brand new gallery space, and reinventing itself as a company.<br />
<br />
"It was just me before, by my lonesome for so many years," says Gibson. "And now I have three partners and we're all equal, and we're all taking charge." Taylor Harrington, Amanda White, and Nick Ahrens have now <a href="http://iam8bit.com/">officially joined the company</a>, and the group will all work together on the art collective's various projects.<br />
<br />
The new space will be helpful as well -- iam8bit originally found it while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/12/capcom-hosts-a-dead-rising-2-party-at-greenes-hardware/">putting an event together with Capcom</a>, and eventually leased it themselves. Gibson plans to use it for a number of different functions. "It's so big," he says. "We can do shows here, we can have concerts, we can do movie screenings."<br />
<br />
The Super iam8bit show has a book associated with it, currently available in the gallery's storefront, open for business Thursdays through Saturdays in LA. And the art show itself is open for the next month. If you're not planning to be in Echo Park any time soon, you can browse through and see shots from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/11/psa-iam8bit-goes-super-this-evening-in-los-angeles/">last night's opening gala</a> (including a wall-sized <em>Galaga</em> machine, Drew Skillman's retro Kinect hack, and a musical appearance by chiptune artist <a href="http://www.leeni.us/">Leeni</a>) below.<br />

Just a reminder that <a href="http://iam8bit.com/">video game-inspired art house iam8bit</a> is <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20110721006771/en/Quintessential-Video-Game-Culture-Art-Exhibit-Returns">reinventing itself as Super iam8bit </a>this evening at its HQ in Los Angeles' Echo Park neighborhood. Starting tonight at 7pm and going through the next month, the gallery will host over 100 works of art influenced and inspired by your favorite video games. There will also be a "world's largest arcade cabinet" to celebrate <em>Galaga's</em> 30th anniversary, and developer Drew Skillman of Double Fine will be showing off a brand new Kinect Hack.<br />
<br />
The gallery is at 2147 W. Sunset Blvd, and tonight's opening extravaganza will start at 7pm and have music by DJ R-Rated and special appearances by chiptune artists Leeni and A_Rival. Even if you're not in LA, Joystiq will be in attendance this evening, so stay tuned for pictures and news from the event tonight.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-iam8bit-the-exhibition/">SUPER iam8bit (the exhibition)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-iam8bit-the-exhibition/#4343018"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/72dpi---fliersuper-iam8bitby-dave-crosland-1312413140_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-iam8bit-the-exhibition/#4343002"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/72dpi---butcherben---centipede-plus-4-1312413098_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-iam8bit-the-exhibition/#4343013"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/72dpi---degraffandrew---nailbiter-on-custom-track-hunter-1312413132_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-iam8bit-the-exhibition/#4343009"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/72dpi---fisheldaniel---all-or-nothing-1312413118_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-iam8bit-the-exhibition/#4343006"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/72dpi---floresjose-emroca---mk-kalamari-1312413108_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/11/psa-iam8bit-goes-super-this-evening-in-los-angeles/">PSA: iam8bit goes Super this evening in Los Angeles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Aug 2011 17:20:00 EST. 	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/09/a-whole-fleet-of-lego-halo-vehicles-ready-for-deployment/"><img alt="Benny Brickster's Halo vehicles made out of LEGO" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/halovehiclespelican.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 0px;" /></a></div>
<em>LEGO Halo</em> is, unfortunately, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/01/lego-halo-in-the-works-at-bungie/">still an April Fool's joke</a>. But if Bungie or Microsoft ever do want to put it together, maybe Benny Brickster can help. He's modeled <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/origin-of-the-brick/">a number of different <em>Halo</em> vehicles</a>, from the Covenant's Ghost all the way up to the gigantic Pelican, in the excellent and versatile LEGO medium.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/origin-of-the-brick/6017549021/in/photostream">The Pelican</a> is quite a feat in itself, sitting over 26 inches long, with wings so heavy they need their own stands. The back door even opens and closes. Next up, Brickster plans to expand the Covenant forces, building a Wraith, a Phantom, and possibly even a seven-foot long full-scale Assault Carrier. We won't lie: Building something like that would make him a real master, chief.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/10/a-whole-fleet-of-lego-halo-vehicles-ready-for-deployment/">A whole fleet of LEGO Halo vehicles, ready for deployment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 23:00:00 EST. We told you about SUPER iam8bit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/super-iam8bit-new-art-show-new-space-new-book/">in June</a> - it's a years-in-the-making followup to the iam8bit crew's last 2008 art show and 2006 book. It's back this month with not only a new art show, but a new book "documenting this year's event" and it's all being hosted in the group's newly renovated new space in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.<br />
<br />
Beginning August 11 (that's next Thursday!) and running for one month, SUPER iam8bit includes work from over 100 artists, a "special tribute to Galaga's 30th anniversary will feature the world's largest 'arcade cabinet,'" and Double Fine's Drew Skillman "will be displaying an interactive, retro Kinect hack."<br />
<br />
We're pretty sure you're going to want to be there. We've got the address, along with a ton of beautiful images, just past the break! Above, "We're Not in Hyrule Anymore" by Colombian artist Luisa Uribe.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/03/super-iam8bit-exhibition-and-book-debut-august-11/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SUPER iam8bit exhibition and book debut August 11</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/03/super-iam8bit-exhibition-and-book-debut-august-11/">SUPER iam8bit exhibition and book debut August 11</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Aug 2011 23:15:00 EST. If you possess fond memories of the original, snowy-haired version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/devil-may-cry"><em>Devil May Cry</em></a> protagonist Dante, you should bust out your watercolors and really explore those feelings. <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2011/07/13/devil_may_cry_10th_anniversary_art_contest">Capcom's compiling</a> fan-drawn art for the demon-destroying franchise's upcoming 10th anniversary, which the company will then place in "a new, to be announced Capcom game."<br />
<br />
If we were betting folks, we'd wager this title would be an HD collection of the first three installments in the <em>Devil May Cry</em> series. If we were really bad at betting, we'd also say those illustrations will be implemented in an all new "Dante's First Coloring Book" mode. Fortunately, we're <em>very good</em> at betting. We have a system, Debbie. <em>A system</em>!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/14/capcom-devil-may-cry-art-contest-hints-at-unannounced-dmc-game/">Capcom Devil May Cry art contest hints at unannounced DMC game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 11:30:00 EST. Artist A.J. Hateley has spent the last several months creating classic book covers inspired by the themes, characters or iconography of video games. She began the cool project earlier this year and has <a href="http://ajhateley.tumblr.com/">slowly updated with new pieces</a>. Check out Unreality for <a href="http://unrealitymag.com/index.php/2011/07/05/book-covers-crafted-from-video-games/">larger versions in a convenient column</a>.<br />

We were never goth kids -- though if we were, we imagine that we would've hung this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/darksiders-2"><em>Darksiders 2</em></a> concept art all over our lockers.<br />
<br />
If your appreciation for <em>Darksiders 2</em> extends beyond paintings of creepy cliffs and thrones of stone, hit up Game Informer for a spirited interview with Vigil Games art director Han Randhawa. Of course, creative director and comic artist Joe Madureira chimes in a bit about the overall style of the <em>Darksiders</em> series, too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/01/darksiders-2s-artwork-is-all-dark-and-gloomy-and-stuff/">Darksiders 2's artwork is all dark and gloomy and stuff</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jul 2011 23:00:00 EST. Though there hasn't been an art show since 2008, or a book since 2006, the iam8bit crew have been keeping busy. Perhaps you attended their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/09/board-the-ark-at-pax-east-for-an-early-demo-of-brink/">Brink event</a> at PAX East this year, or one of their many <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fight-club">fight club promotions</a> for Capcom's fighting games? Or maybe you snagged one of these signs in Los Angeles last week, which iam8bit stuck on everything from signs to buildings to parking meters.<br />
<br />
The removable posters are promoting not only a new art show, but also a new Los Angeles space to host the art show, and a new book to commemorate it all. In fitting with video game naming conventions, the new project is being called "SUPER iam8bit" and will most likely feature loads of Mode 7 effects. We'll keep you posted on a release date.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-e3-street-campaign/">iam8bit (E3 street campaign)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-e3-street-campaign/#4227130"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/blog2-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-e3-street-campaign/#4227131"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/blog2-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-e3-street-campaign/#4227132"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/blog2-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-e3-street-campaign/#4227133"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/blog2-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/iam8bit-e3-street-campaign/#4227134"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/06/blog2-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/15/super-iam8bit-new-art-show-new-space-new-book/">SUPER iam8bit: new art show, new space, new book</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Jun 2011 16:45:00 EST. It looks like the affirmative side of the "Games as Art" debate just got a powerful player on their side: The National Endowment for the Arts. The government agency recently changed its "Arts on Radio and Television" category to the somewhat broader "<a href="http://arts.gov/grants/apply/AIM-presentation.html">Arts in Media</a>." According to the official NEA guidelines, these include "media created for theatrical release; performance programs; artistic segments for use within an existing series; multi-part webisodes; installations; and interactive games." Hey, <em>that's us</em>!<br />
<br />
Developers seeking federal backing for their super artistic projects can apply on the <a href="http://arts.gov/grants/apply/AIM-presentation.html">NEA's official site</a> before September 1. Considering the grants range from $10,000 to $200,000, we think it would be worth the effort.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/08/national-endowment-for-the-arts-grants-now-available-for-games/">National Endowment for the Arts grants now available for games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 May 2011 17:30:00 EST. This latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/from-dust"><em>From Dust</em></a> dev diary reveals a gameworld inspired by out-of-this-world locales: from the the lagoon archipelagos of Polynesia to the central Sahara Desert and on <em>into the mind </em>of prolific French sci-fi author Laurent Genefort.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/07/from-dust-dev-diary-directs-our-attention-to-the-art-direction/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>From Dust dev diary directs our attention to the art direction</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/07/from-dust-dev-diary-directs-our-attention-to-the-art-direction/">From Dust dev diary directs our attention to the art direction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 May 2011 00:01:00 EST. We don't fully understand the technical or artistic details of Paper Kettle's "<a href="http://www.paperkettle.com/home/illucia/">Illucia</a>" project, but we'll summarize what we do comprehend, because it's really neat. There's also a video after the break, which is even more helpful in relating <em>what this project is</em>.<br />
<br />
"Illucia" is a custom-built USB device featuring arcade joystick and buttons and several cable inputs, which Paper Kettle describes as a "modular codebending instrument." Using the various cable jacks, the artist is able to feed output from one custom program (say, a game) into another program (like a word processor) as <em>input</em>, all of which can then be modified with the controls to create bizarre visuals and sounds.<br />
<br />
You don't even need the byzantine Illucia device to explore "codebending" for yourself. Paper Kettle plans to release custom software in the next week, including Pong and Tetris-style games, and even a text editor (called "Pile of Secrets"), all of which "speak OSC and can easily be routed into each other, or other programs / physical controllers."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/25/illucia-project-uses-codebending-to-make-games-talk-to-each/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Illucia' project uses 'codebending' to make games talk to each other</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/25/illucia-project-uses-codebending-to-make-games-talk-to-each/">'Illucia' project uses 'codebending' to make games talk to each other</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Apr 2011 12:30:00 EST. An art project by Jeffrey Kam and Cody McCabe reconstructs <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/minecraft"><em>Minecraft's</em></a> ... construction in real life. "Meatcraft" is a collection of 1,500 cardboard blocks made using the textures from <em>Minecraft</em>. Visitors to the exhibit (shown at San Jose State University last month) were encouraged to build structures with the themed blocks on two crafting tables inside a fully <em>Minecraft</em>-ized room. There were even tiny little pixelated pickaxes and other tools.<br />
<br />
<meta charset="utf-8" />
"We noticed several types of visitors in the gallery that very closely mirrored the different types of <em>Minecraft</em> players," the artists said on the project's site. "There are players who like to mine, some who like to build structures, and even some who simply stand around and watch the awesome things people do in game. In the gallery, those who were familiar with <em>Minecraft</em> began digging for ore, specifically the very rare diamond (we only had 4)."<br />
<br />
If you happen to run some kind of art space, and you'd like to turn it into a <em>play</em> space, you can <a href="http://realworldminecraft.com/">contact the artists</a> and set up Meatcraft in your own gallery.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/22/meatcrafts-minecraft-theme-makes-it-okay-for-adults-to-play-wit/">Meatcraft's Minecraft theme makes it okay for adults to play with blocks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Apr 2011 01:00:00 EST. Last year, Billy Polard created a kind-of-a-bummer music video using Flipnote Studio for his song, "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/09/sad-sweet-music-video-made-in-flipnote/">Losing Light</a>." Polard recently returned to the DSi drawing board, and created yet another melancholy video for another of his tunes, "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMGPD0q5Czc">when our bedrooms were once haunted</a>." Check it out below!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/08/another-music-video-whipped-up-with-dsis-flipnote-studio/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Another music video whipped up with DSi's Flipnote Studio</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/08/another-music-video-whipped-up-with-dsis-flipnote-studio/">Another music video whipped up with DSi's Flipnote Studio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Apr 2011 07:00:00 EST. We know -- you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/14/vote-on-games-for-smithsonians-the-art-of-video-games-exhibit/">were going to vote</a> for the Smithsonian's <a href="http://www.artofvideogames.org/">Art of Video Games exhibit</a>, but then your cat got lost, you had extra homework to do and your collection of various Mario figurines needed organizing. But just in case you hadn't made plans to get your vote in by Thursday, you're in luck: the voting deadline has been extended to April 17, through the third Sunday of this month.<br />
<br />
The vote is trying to narrow down the list to just 80 games set to be featured in an exhibition at the famed museum right around this time next year, so you'll be helping to make history with your choices. Joining in to vote also sets you up to get advance notification about the winning games, as well as behind-the-scenes information about the exhibit as it's shown off at the Smithsonian and then toured around the country. So go, vote now -- <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/chrono-trigger"><em>Chrono Trigger</em></a> isn't going to pick itself!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/06/smithsonian-extends-voting-on-art-of-video-games-exhibit-through/">Smithsonian extends voting on Art of Video Games exhibit through April 17</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Apr 2011 08:45:00 EST. Media Molecule is doing its part for the <a href="http://playforjapan.org/">Play for Japan</a> campaign, auctioning off a <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/article/play_for_japan_own_a_piece_of_littlebigplanet_history_or_buy_royalty/">few rare pieces</a> of original concept art for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/littlebigplanet">LittleBigPlanet</a></em>, along with signed copies of its sequel. There are four sketches up for grabs on the auction block, each of which show the evolution and development of the franchise's floppy, stitched protagonist, Sackboy. Each piece comes with a copy of <em>LBP2</em> with an extremely limited edition cover slip signed by the entire Media Molecule team.<br />

Bidders can also try to grab a super rare, in-game crown costume piece for their Sackperson -- a prize usually only distributed as prizes for Media Molecule contests. Though this particular Kinect hack is titled "<a href="http://mattlockyer.com/2011/03/18/411/">Living Brushes</a>," we prefer the name "Paint Wizard," for reasons you'll likely only comprehend after watching the video below. We've seen the device used for artistic purposes before, but this program from Matt Lockyer absolutely takes the tempera cake.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/27/kinect-hacks-become-a-paint-wizard/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kinect Hacks: Become a paint wizard</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/27/kinect-hacks-become-a-paint-wizard/">Kinect Hacks: Become a paint wizard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 27 Mar 2011 18:30:00 EST. 1n0ut, an artist collective specializing in multimedia performance-based art, has created a Kinect hack both beautiful and inspiring to behold. Titled "Versus," it sees a real-life dancer giving lessons to a digital model. Just imagine: Here's a future where we can teach our computers <em>how to Dougie</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/kinect-hacks-a-dancer-in-the-machine/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kinect Hacks: A dancer in the machine</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/kinect-hacks-a-dancer-in-the-machine/">Kinect Hacks: A dancer in the machine</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 11:50:00 EST. Well, here we are. Until someone builds an entire, sustainable city out of construction paper and tissues, we're pretty sure we've witnessed the ultimate opus from the papercraft community: A life-size model of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/no-more-heroes"><em>No More Heroes</em></a> hero, Travis Touchdown. Check out this masterfully intricate, somewhat-upsetting-in-a-Max-Headroom-kind-of-way statue over on <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Life-Size-Paper-Travis-Touchdown/">Instructables</a>.<br />
<br />
While we know Travis Touchdown is a total dreamboat, we wouldn't recommend creating one of these on your own for <em>carnal purposes</em>. See, there'd be two major problems with that:<br />
<ol>

		Papercuts</li>

		That's really gross</li>

One husband and wife DIY team recently announced on Reddit that they'd unlocked the secret of portal technology* using everyday, off-the-shelf parts. By attaching LED rope light to the backs of two oval mirrors, they succeeded in creating one of the most effective (and easily replicated) displays of video game related wall art we've ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/portal-2"><em>Portal</em></a> portals that look strikingly authentic.<br />
<br />
The Redditors in question, corttana and dahburbb, say that the "spiraling" effect of the lights is actually the unexpected result of curving the light rope they used into an oval shape. When asked by other users, the duo said they plan to building a Companion Cube storage chest to round out their personal Enrichment Center. You can see more photos of it at the <a href="http://imgur.com/a/Sfydf">source link</a>.<br />

From March 4 through March 30, the gallery is hosting Game Over 4, a show that "pays homage to the continuous evolution of videogames and their massive influence on popular culture."<br />
<br />

Here's a thing we didn't know we wanted until the internet showed it to us: a hand-cranked, <a href="http://vimeo.com/19733412">clockwork Pac-Man sculpture</a>. Its creator, Jonathan Guberman, hopes to create a fully playable mechanical Pac-Man machine called "Pac Machina" -- but this proof of concept is cool enough for the time being.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/10/hand-cranked-mechanical-pac-man-gobbles-up-our-heart/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hand-cranked mechanical Pac-Man gobbles up our heart</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/10/hand-cranked-mechanical-pac-man-gobbles-up-our-heart/">Hand-cranked mechanical Pac-Man gobbles up our heart</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Feb 2011 15:20:00 EST. An incarnation of <em>Tetris</em> has managed to find itself on nearly every platform imaginable. So, what's the Tetris Company supposed to do now? It's obvious: break the traditional definition of a platform.<br />
<br />
In collaboration with <a href="http://www.walls360.com/Tetris">Walls360</a>, Tetris is now "available" to play on your wall. Using adhesive cut-out wall graphics, you'll be able to very slowly play a game of Tetris on your wall. As you imagine the pieces falling down the wall, don't forget that the stickers are re-adhesive, so you can "play" more than one game, if you so wish. Given a set starts at $35, you'll definitely want to get as much replay value as possible.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/10/tetris-finds-another-platform-your-wall/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tetris finds another platform: your wall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/10/tetris-finds-another-platform-your-wall/">Tetris finds another platform: your wall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Feb 2011 04:00:00 EST.
