Folks who pre-order Vanillaware and Atlus' forthcoming 2D hack-and-slash game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragons-crown">Dragon's Crown</a>, </em>will also receive a 64-page limited edition art book for their troubles. The paperback tome includes character and environmental artwork by <em>Dragon's Crown</em> designer/artist/Vanillaware president George Kamitani, in addition to pieces by other Japanese video game artists, such as Capcom alumnus Kinu Nishimura and Akira Yasuda.<br />
<br />
Atlus has also revealed the game's North American box art, which does a good job of obfuscating the art design's more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/12/dragons-crown-trailer-shows-a-bit-too-much-of-the-sorceress/">controversial</a> aspects. <em>Dragon's Crown</em> will drop for PlayStation 3 and Vita August 6, at $49.99 and $39.99 respectively.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-crown-art-book-and-box-art/">Dragon's Crown (Art Book and Box Art)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-crown-art-book-and-box-art/#5870583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/dcartcover_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-crown-art-book-and-box-art/#5870584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/drgcrwps3rp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-crown-art-book-and-box-art/#5870585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/drgvitarp_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/dragons-crown-pre-orders-get-this-art-book/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dragon's Crown pre-orders get this art book</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/dragons-crown-pre-orders-get-this-art-book/">Dragon's Crown pre-orders get this art book</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 May 2013 21:00:00 EST. Art sale and silent auction proceeds go to What's Up Dog! LA, which is why the event's organizers have launched an Indiegogo fundraiser to help cover the cost of printing posters, flyers, providing snacks at the event, etc. Their goal is a meager $3,000, and <a href="http://www.indiegogo.com/presspaws?c=home">donations can be made here</a> for those so inclined.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/12/press-paws-charity-art-show-to-break-hearts-empty-wallets-save/">Press Paws charity art show to break hearts, empty wallets, save pooches</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 Jan 2013 21:00:00 EST. It uses Twitter to passively power and level up a virtual character set in a fantasy-based world, and has now been accused of stealing art from the <em>World of Warcraft</em> collectible card game.<br /><br />Mike Sacco, a columnist for <a href="http://wow.joystiq.com/bloggers/michael-sacco/">WoW Insider</a> who also happens to work at WoW CCG owner Cryptozoic Entertainment, points out that artwork uploaded by the Tweeria staff for the title is <a href="https://twitter.com/mikesacco/status/284051341385539584">ripped right off from the cards</a>.<br /><br />Tweeria's creator, a Russian company <a href="http://tweega.me/">called Twee Game</a>, claims <a href="http://blog.tweenk.me/post/38239283869/copyright">it's a "mostly experimental" project</a>, and the game has since added a "copyright notice" at the bottom of its pages to try and attribute the artwork to its creators. Parisian gallery <a href="http://www.arludik.com/indexeng.htm">Arludik</a> will feature concept art created for the <em>Assassin's Creed</em> series during the month of October. "Assassin's Creed L'Exposition" will run from October 5-30 and features 35 pieces of original concept art. Ubisoft claims the canvases have been appraised between &euro;600 ($820) and &euro;2,000 ($2,725). <br />
<br />
If you'd like to own a piece of the exhibit, two pieces were selected to have a limited run of 149 lithograph prints. Those will go on sale, likely in the <a href="http://www.arludik.com/indexeng.htm">limited edition section</a> of the gallery's website, for &euro;80 ($110). Those pieces will come with a certificate of authenticity and will be hand-signed by Ubi's graphic art director. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to <a href="http://mo5.com/index.php">MO5</a>, an organization seeking to preserve the history of video games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/30/assassins-creed-artwork-being-showcased-in-paris-gallery/">Assassin's Creed artwork being showcased in Paris gallery</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Sep 2010 04:00:00 EST. Each branch received five pictures of the Tap Runner avatars, apparently hand-drawn by Naka. He even drew the logo on each one! Right after we enter. <br /><br />In other <em>Let's Tap</em> news, the European release, like the Japanese release, <em>will</em> include <a href="http://www.casualgaming.biz/news/28457/Sega-to-Tap-into-the-mainstream">two big boxes</a> -- as a "Limited Edition." It's always curious to see the different stages of life game concepts go through before making it into our grubby hands. It's reason enough why we can't stop flipping through the website for conceptual design studio <a href="http://www.leadinglightdesign.com/">Leading Light</a>. Among the treasures found on the site are some fantastic pieces dedicated to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock"><em>BioShock</em></a>, as well as a some early artwork from a pair of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lionhead">Lionhead</a> concepts labeled "Survivors" and "Justice." <br /><br />Artwork for the former looks to be for an action game set against the backdrop of a catastrophic disaster, while the latter concept has a more futuristic, almost <em>Blade Runner</em> vibe. With Lionhead's Peter Molyneux <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/17/peter-molyneux-to-reveal-lionhead-experiments-at-gdc-09/">set to talk on concepts</a> his studio is tossing around next month during GDC, it'll be interesting to see if either of these projects is brought up during the panel. However, <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/02/16/justice-and-survivor-arent-in-lionhead-production/">VG247</a> reports that according to a Lionhead rep, the pictures represent old material and neither project is in production at the studio. <br /><br />Leading Light's site also includes concept art from a project labeled "Titan," including some jaw-dropping set pieces pitting giant bugs against an even bigger robot. The fantastic-looking idea was apparently drummed up by Sony's Stormfront studio before it was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/stormfront-studios-shutting-down/">shuttered in April 2008</a>. Sure, it's <em>possible </em>that any of these projects might someday see the light of day, but you'll have to forgive us if we don't hold our breath. <br /><br />[Thanks, Adem]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/lionhead-stormfront-early-concepts-revealed-in-art/">Lionhead, Stormfront early concepts revealed in art</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 09:00:00 EST. <br />One of the opening night parties at Austin GDC was held at the <a href="http://www.arthousetexas.org/">Arthouse</a>, which is currently housing an exhibit of gaming related art that ranges from 8-bit inspired to some truly abstract pieces. <a href="http://www.arthousetexas.org/index.php?_page=load_page&amp;_action=load&amp;_id=324">Reset/Play</a> is showing in Austin through November 2nd, and is well worth a visit. Eddo Stern's <em>Best...Flame War...Ever... (King of Bards vs. Squire Rex, June 2004)</em> is worth the trip alone. It recreates an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/1040896/full/">online flame war</a> between two <em>EverQuest</em> gamers with sound and animation, and runs for about 14 minutes. Truly amazing.<br /><br />Another impressive piece in the exhibit is Andrew Galloway's <em>How to Play World of Warcraft, </em>which features two huge video images showing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/1040870/full/">closeups of the mouse and keyboard</a> of a gamer, and those are flanked by huge blowup images of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/1040865/full/">ASCII text guides</a> for the game.<em> </em>You can see both of these pieces in the gallery below, or read more about it at the <a href="http://www.arthousetexas.org/index.php?_page=load_page&amp;_id=RESET">Arthouse main page</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/">Reset/Play - a Party for Texas Games</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/#1040897"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/dsc_0661_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/#1040896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/dsc_0636_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/#1040895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/dsc_0632_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/#1040894"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/dsc_0644_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/play-reset-a-party-for-texas-games/#1040893"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/09/dsc_0651_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em>[Much thanks to Amaze Entertainment's Rodney Gibbs and SXSW's Linday Muse for the invitation]</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/agdc-reset-play-more-gaming-inspired-artwork/">AGDC: Reset/Play, more gaming inspired artwork</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Sep 2008 05:15:00 EST. Last night was the opening night shindig for the latest <a href="http://www.iam8bit.net/">i am 8-bit show</a>, and it was by far their biggest event yet. We arrived early as part of a press event to mill around and quietly take photos, but by 9PM the place was packed with people checking out the art, listening to the whomping sounds of <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&amp;friendid=10237306">Computer Jay</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/djrrated">DJ R-Rated</a>, and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/leenimusic">Leeni</a> (check her out in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/977762/full/">Pac-Man dress</a>, along with her 8-bit tattoo). There was a massive line of people outside waiting to get in, and it had turned into the hottest ticket on Hollywood Blvd. Which, yes, is actually saying something.<br /><br />They had turned the entire storefront of the World of Wonder (didn't they used to make Teddy Ruxpin?) into a huge display, featuring giant <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/977825/full/">Piranha Plants</a> from <em>Super Mario Bros</em>., and they had an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/971054/full/">old-school setup</a> where you could play games ranging from an NES to a full-sized arcade cabinet, right there on full display to everyone passing by. It probably didn't hurt that some of the <a href="http://www.totallynerdcore.com/Enter/calendars/index.htm">Nerdcore calendar girls</a> took up residence here later and played Game Boys and quarter-eaters <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/977847/full/">in their underwear</a>.<br /><br />Read more after the break, and be sure to take a spin through the huge gallery which shows off the more than 200 pieces in the show, and how crazy the whole scene became.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/">i am 8-bit: 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977859"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0603_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977852"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0607_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977828"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0610_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977787"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0609_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0605_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/joystiq-goes-to-i-am-8-bit/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq goes to i am 8-bit</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/15/joystiq-goes-to-i-am-8-bit/">Joystiq goes to i am 8-bit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Aug 2008 15:30:00 EST. We've been able to pry some exclusive images out of the i am 8 bit showrunners -- here they are in gallery-tastic form, just for you. As a wallpaper-friendly reminder, be sure to click the "Hi Res" button in the upper right corner to get some enormo versions of the art. It's the best way to have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/953329/full/">technicolor Samus</a> gracing your desktop.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/19/i-am-8-bit-returns-with-a-new-show-in-los-angeles/">new gallery show</a> will open on August 14th in Los Angeles, and will run through September 7th. If you can't make it West, don't worry ... Joystiq will have you covered. Check back on the evening of the 14th for a plethora of photos from the show. That is, if we haven't hocked our laptops to buy this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/953327/full/"><em>Dig Dug</em> meets <em>Animal Crossing</em> piece</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/">i am 8-bit: 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977859"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0603_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977852"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0607_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977828"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0610_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977787"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0609_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/i-am-8-bit-2008/#977759"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/dsc_0605_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/31/joystiq-exclusive-a-sneak-peek-at-the-upcoming-i-am-8-bit-show/">Joystiq Exclusive: a sneak peek at the upcoming i am 8 bit show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jul 2008 15:20:00 EST. One of the most overlooked aspects of E3 is a chance to look at the <a href="http://www.intothepixel.com/">Into the Pixel</a> selections from each year. These are huge pieces of art inspired by and created for different video games. They often feature much deeper looks into the games they represent, just check out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/932323/">this piece</a> from <em>Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood</em> as an example.<br /><br />Our favorites are probably the simple yet fun <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/932325/">Mokeskine-notebook</a> from <em>Rayman Raving Rabbids</em>, or the <em>Little Big Planet</em>-esque <em>Puzzle World Twilight</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/932318/">landscape painting</a>. Check out our gallery below of images from the 2007 and 2008 shows and pick out your favorite. There's some really good desktop wallpaper fodder in there if you click the high rez button.<br /><br />For more Into the Pixel art, check out the galleries on their <a href="http://www.intothepixel.com/">site</a>. If you're in the Los Angeles area, the exhibition will be open to the public during this year's E for All, from October 3rd through the 5th.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/">Into the Pixel @ E3 2008</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/#932333"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/2008-four_knights_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/#932332"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/2008-ship_scroll_whd_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/#932331"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/2008-rapunzel_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/#932330"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/2007-310-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/into-the-pixel-e3-2008/#932329"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/2007-266-lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/into-the-pixel-at-e3-a-gallery-of-goodness/">Into the Pixel at E3: a gallery of goodness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jul 2008 15:30:00 EST. <br />A quick word about the new art on Konami's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/order-of-ecclesia/">Castlevania: Order of Eccelsia</a></em> site for Japan -- <em>badical</em>. Several not-so-quick words -- we'd heard from early previews that series producer Koji Igarashi and his team were moving away from the anime character designs employed in the two previous <em>Castlevania</em> DS titles, but we weren't expecting the new art direction to impress us <em>this</em> much. Also -- hooker boots.<br /><br />As for the "<em>Nintendo Power</em> secret" hinted in the title, look at the glowing satellite behind <em>Order of Ecclesia's</em> protagonist, Shanoa. Notice anything familiar? Doesn't it look like the same <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/nintendo-power-promises-the-moon/">mystery moon</a> <em>Nintendo Power</em> used as a clue in the latest issue's preview page? Peer into a telescope past the post break to compare!<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/17/order-of-ecclesia-site-reveals-artwork-nintendo-powers-secret/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Order of Ecclesia site reveals artwork, Nintendo Power's secret?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/17/order-of-ecclesia-site-reveals-artwork-nintendo-powers-secret/">Order of Ecclesia site reveals artwork, Nintendo Power's secret?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 17 May 2008 14:00:00 EST. <div align="left">The <span style="font-style: italic;">Ace Attorney</span> series is dear to our hearts, so when any information crosses the intertubes regarding Capcom's lawyering games, we foam at the mouth like rabid raccoons. Today's tidings regard both the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/ace-attorney-producer-big-announcement-at-orchestral-concert/">Gyakuten Meets Orchestra</a></em> concert, which took place in Tokyo, and the upcoming spin-off title starring Miles Edgeworth.<br />
<br />
As much as we love <span style="font-style: italic;">Gyakuten Saiban</span> and its music, we obviously weren't able to able to drag ourselves to Japan for what we're sure was an awesome concert. From what we understand, though, the CDs that you see so deliciously stacked in the video above will be made available for purchase on July 16th. <span style="font-style: italic;">Do want</span>.<br />
<br />
Also in the video (around the 4:00 minute mark) is a trailer for Edgeworth's game, called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/09/gyakuten-kenji-new-phoenix-wright-prequel-starring-edgeworth/"><em>Gyakuten Kenji</em></a> in case you haven't been keeping up (for shame!). The trailer is mostly just moving versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/13/gyakuten-kenji-is-now-easier-on-the-eyes/">screens we've already seen</a>, but it also features a new character that will be showing up <br />
<br />
Check after the break to see some promotional photos for <span style="font-style: italic;">Gyakuten Kenji</span>, some artwork from the event (want!), and some <span style="font-style: italic;">Gyakuten Saiban</span> swag, including an orchestra-themed tumbler (want want!) and even Snackoos (want want want!).<br />

Or from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a>'s servers -- we get them confused. We've been blessed with the gift of a <em>ton </em>of gorgeous watercolor-style <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/okami"><em>Okami</em></a> character art, most of which features the wolf/goddess Amaterasu in various forms or with divine weapons. It is almost guaranteed that you'll find something in the set that you'll want to use as a desktop wallpaper.<br /><br />Looking at all this amazing art -- to which the game's visuals hold up pretty well -- just reminds us of what a shame it was that <em>Okami</em> didn't sell, and what a shame it will be if it doesn't sell <em>again.</em> Maybe it'll do better now that it doesn't have to compete with <em>Zelda.</em><br /><br /> <br /><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/20/okami-artwork-descends-from-the-heavens/">Okami artwork descends from the heavens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 20 Mar 2008 20:00:00 EST. Having covered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/04/zelda-week-the-art-of-jainai-jeffries/">our favorite fan-made Link artwork</a> two days ago, we're sharing with you our most beloved <em>official</em> pieces today. These illustrations from the <em>Official Nintendo Player's Guide</em> books that supplemented <em>A Link to the Past</em> and <em>Link's Awakening</em> have always been, without a doubt, our favorite art for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda">The Legend of Zelda</a></em> series.<br /><br />Their use of color and light sources vividly recreate scenes from the early NES, Game Boy, and SNES games better than anything we've ever seen before. We have dropped a few choice images from the books past the break so you can see what we mean -- don't miss out!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/06/zelda-week-players-guide-artwork/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zelda Week: Player's Guide artwork</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/06/zelda-week-players-guide-artwork/">Zelda Week: Player's Guide artwork</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Oct 2007 16:00:00 EST. Not all of you shared our excitement when we posted <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/21/project-o-trailer-better-than-our-wildest-dreams/"><em>Project O's</em> trailer</a> two weeks ago, many questioning our declaration of the game as a "must buy." We considered sassing back with our usual acerbic wit, riposting, "Yeah, well <em>your mother</em> is a 'must buy.'" Oh, how it would have <em>burned</em>. We eventually decided against attacking our readers, opting instead to chip away at your defenses with as many updates on the RPG/sim as we can muster.<br /><br />Jeux-France posted new artwork of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/projecto">Project O's</a></em> buildings and characters that strengthen analogies between the game and a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=pikmin">Pikmin</a></em>-styled RTS. Some of the structures are predictable, like the smithy and archery hut, while others, such as the mustachioed and heavy-eyebrowed fish restaurant shown above, are a bit more eccentric.<br /><br />We've got more images past the post break which you can preview while you try desperately in vain to shake <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFtW0WKT0Tw">the musical stylings of Starship</a> out of your head. Consider that last link our weekend gift to you. You know, to make up for that whole your-mother-being-a-must-buy burn.<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/we-built-this-city-on-project-o-artwork/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>We Built This City on Project O (artwork)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/we-built-this-city-on-project-o-artwork/">We Built This City on Project O (artwork)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Oct 2007 20:30:00 EST. It's true, we didn't hear much about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass</em></a> at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/our-keynote-reactions-let-us-tell-you-them/">Nintendo's E3 keynote</a>. But Nintendo discreetly dropped some images into a press release and stuffed them into our briefcase, giving us the notion that if they happened to be shown to you guys, it wouldn't be <em>terrible.</em><br /><br />A few new screenshots have been added to the gallery, as well as some character art. One of the pieces is the same artwork used in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/06/possible-english-language-phantom-hourglass-box/">supposed US boxart</a>, which, to us, confirms the validity of that boxart. Man, the <em>Wind Waker</em> art style still out-styles pretty much everything else out there, especially in mainstream AAA games. Sorry, <em>every other game.<br /></em><br /><em></em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/e307-zelda-screens-and-delightful-artwork/">E307: Zelda screens and delightful artwork</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 20:40:00 EST. Rather than have you labor through the text-heavy release's dialogue and plot setup, Stage Clear has posted <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/tons-of-doki-doki-majo-shinpan-screens/">artwork</a> wrested from the Japanese game, enabling you to skip the journey and get right to your depraved destination. <br /><br />While none of the shots are scandalous enough to land you a ten-year stay in a federal prison, we wouldn't say that they're safe for work viewing either. The wiccan nymphets are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/04/the-ds-life-leg-show/">depicted in poses</a> that would leave <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita">Humbert Humbert</a> dizzy with delight ("the king crying for joy, the trumpets blaring, the nurse drunk"), their faces reacting to the taps and strokes of an unseen stylus. Heck, seeing the Zune exclusive Red vs Blue <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/17/halo-3-zune-available-exclusive-red-vs-blue-vid/">episode</a> on YouTube made our day. So, we couldn't help but share with our fellow fanboys all the exclusive <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/8861626@N05/sets/72157600378033288/"><em>Halo</em> artwork</a> that's included on the Zune. Yup, deadlycyclone48 ripped all the backgrounds off his <em>Halo 3</em> Zune and posted them on Flickr for everyone to enjoy. Go ahead, look through all the <em>Halo</em> artwork without needing to buy any music player. It kind of feels dirty, doesn't it?<br /><br /><font color="#ff0000">Update 1:</font> It looks like this linked set doesn't include all the <em>Halo</em> backgrounds included on the Zune. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/10/forza-2-goes-gold-reaches-stores-on-may-29th/"><em>Forza 2</em> isn't even a week old</a> and players have already unleashed some killer custom paint jobs for their rides. A slick iPod theme, several anime-inspired cars along with South Park, Jack Sparrow, and a little game you might have heard of called <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gearsofwar"><em>Gears of War</em></a>. Readers at Xbox 360 Fanboy have chimed in with <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jdkay20/ForzaPhotos">their own works</a> as well, proving once again that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/05/27/video-games-are-good-for-you-except-when-theyre-just-bad/">videogames don't kill brain cells, people kill brain cells</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/06/01/insane-custom-cars-already-in-forza-2/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/03/crazy-insane-forza-2-custom-paint-jobs/">Crazy good Forza 2 custom paint jobs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 03 Jun 2007 06:01:00 EST. We recently had some real-looking videos of what appeared to be a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/nibris-shows-possible-real-game-double-bloob/">real game</a> on the DS. But all we've had about their Wii game <em>Sadness </em>recently is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/08/sadness-loses-its-publisher-title-becomes-more-ironic/">bad news</a> (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/sadness-may-exist-after-all/">responses</a> to bad news). Well, they seem to be back on track with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sadness/">Sadness</a></em>, or at least they're back on their uniquely Nibris track of showing a few tidbits of artwork, but no screens and no evidence that there is any <em>game</em> at all.<br /><br />For what it's worth, the artwork looks okay. We're glad work is being done on this game at all. Do you think the issue with <em>Sadness</em> is that Nibris has been unusually transparent with the earliest stages of their game design, leading to the impression that it's been a really long time without seeing anything? Or is it just that they're <em>really</em> late getting to showing any real content? Check out the artwork after the break, and feel free to discuss what has become an impromptu <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wwu">Wii Warm Up</a> in the comments thread.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-sadness-artwork-is-not-screenshots/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Sadness artwork is not screenshots</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/new-sadness-artwork-is-not-screenshots/">New Sadness artwork is not screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Apr 2007 20:15:00 EST. <div align="left">We don't have a whole lot that we can add to this <a href="http://www.itesser.com/articles/07d001.html">Mario mosaic</a> made of fridge magnets. We know that it was lovingly crafted from about 1,500 half-inch "<a href="http://www.itesser.com/projects/fridgets.html">Fridgets</a>" and that it took a presumably very dedicated Annie Rush around 12 hours to construct. We also learn from her site that she wants to tackle some other 8-bit games, as well as Van Gogh's <em>Starry Night</em> ... and, we hope, <em>Alex Kidd in Van Gogh's Starry Night</em>. Some other shots of the project can be seen <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/itesser/sets/72157600144529117/">here</a>, on her Flickr site.<br /><br />Oh, one more thing: We know that if Annie Rush's possibly non-existent children bring home any crayon drawings or spelling tests they are particularly proud of, they will promptly be told to go <em>straight to hell.</em><br /></div>

As great as a turn-based, first-person RPG might sound to some of you, it's rare for that kind of game to register even a blip on the radar of most gamers or gaming media.<br /><br />Atlus has been updating <em>Etrian Odyssey'</em>s <a href="http://www.atlus.com/etrian/">official site</a> with promotional webcomics, the first of which proposes how the title can attach itself to current trends and elbow its way to the front of the crowd. Likening the game's dungeon crawl experience to <em><a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/brainage">Brain Age</a></em> is a huge stretch, but we have to applaud the creative approach. We <a href="http://wii.joystiq.com/2007/03/12/gdcs-i-am-8-bit-preview-art-exhibit/">previewed</a> some of the art from "I am 8-Bit" at GDC earlier this year, and now the actual show is upon us. It opens Tuesday, April 17th in Los Angeles and runs until May 12th at <a href="http://www.gallery1988.com/">Gallery Ninteen Eighty Eight</a>. If you're in the LA area, check out their opening night extravaganza tomorrow night which will feature live performances, drinks, and some "other surprises."<br /><br />They'll have 200 piece of artwork from over 100 different artists, including the giant, working, five foot tall Atari 2600 controller pictured above, which was commissioned for the show. Playable on the controller, projected 30 feet wide, will be "Mega Man 2600,"a homebrewed game by David Galloway, created for The Blue Bomber's 20th Anniversary. Talk about a "mega" man. (How could you not see that coming?)<br /><br />"I Am 8-Bit" is "a talented arsenal of artists painting, sculpting, molding, or inking their old-school videogame memories. Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/nintendo-raining-on-eas-mii-parade/">lack of third-party cooperation</a> might be to blame, but at least the company will be implementing both features with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bigbrainacademy"><em>Big Brain Academy</em></a> for the Wii. Users will be able to import their Miis when creating a student profile, solving the game's reflex puzzles with their customized characters.<br />
<br />
According to the latest issue of <a href="http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=revolution&amp;message.id=3353263">Nintendo Power</a>, WiiConnect24 will allow other people's Miis to wander into your game, equipped with the student profiles of their creators. You will also be able to test your brain against theirs in any of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/multiplayer">multiplayer</a> modes. We're going to be pretty depressed if our friends' Miis turn out to be much smarter than us. At least we have our wit! There's always that, right?<br />
<em><br />
Big Brain Academy</em> won't be coming out in the US until June 11, so there's still some time to hit the books and get your brain in shape. Jeux-France has several dozen screenshots of the game in action along with some Mii artwork. Check past the post break for a few of those images.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/big-brain-academy-screens-wiiconnect24-details/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Big Brain Academy screens, WiiConnect24 details</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/big-brain-academy-screens-wiiconnect24-details/">Big Brain Academy screens, WiiConnect24 details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 29 Mar 2007 15:00:00 EST. She cross stitched the <em>Gears of War</em> logo for him, and just look how nice it is all framed and ready to go next to the family photos in the hallway. Our grandmother would never have stitched this for us ... even if we'd begged her. The closest we could probably get would be a quilted gingham checkerboard.<br /><br />Now what we really want to know is: does your grandma play the game? Have her hit us up in multiplayer and show us if those skills with a needle translate to a chainsaw.<br /><br />[Thanks, Alex -- and thank granny for us too]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/11/gears-of-war-single-player-cross-stitching-action/">Gears of War -- single-player cross-stitching action</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 11 Nov 2006 17:05:00 EST.
