Completionists looking forward to strapping themselves in Da Vinci's flying machine in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassins-creed-2">Assassin's Creed II</a></em> will need to pick up the game's PSP version as well. Speaking during Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/joystiq-live-from-sonys-e3-2009-keynote/">E3 2009 press gathering</a>, Ubisoft revealed that the upcoming sequel will feature unlockable weapons, which players will only be able to unsheathe by connecting the game to the series' upcoming PSP debut this holiday. Animus compatibility, however, is still a ways off, so we're told.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/assassins-creed-2-unlockables-tied-to-psp-version/">Assassin's Creed 2 unlockables tied to PSP version</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Jun 2009 15:40:00 EST. Money continues to pour into the House that <em>Rayman </em>built as Ubisoft announced fourth quarter sales growth of 10% to &euro;217 million ($339 million). In addition, the company saw its wallet grow by an impressive 36.4% over the entire fiscal year ended March 31, 2008 by some &euro;928 million ($1.45 billion) driven by "stronger than expected" sales of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rainbow-six-vegas-2/"><em>Rainbow Six Vegas 2</em></a> (nearly two million units sold), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AssassinsCreed/"><em>Assassin's Creed</em> </a>(more than six million units sold), and titles from its casual "Games For Everyone" brands.<br /><br />Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot called 2007-08 a "remarkable year" thanks to "excellent sales" of established brands and a "steady output of new releases...that have performed exceptionally well." Ubisoft also continues to work towards a sales target of &euro;1 billion, or $1.42 billion, for 2008-09, while the exec set the bar high for his company going forward with an expected growth of "at least 15 percent" in the coming year.<br /><br />Lastly, Guillemot boasted of a "particularly strong" line-up of titles in the year ahead, including seven existing franchises, five new releases, and a continued focus on bringing more casual games on the Wii and DS, one of which we think should be based <em>solely </em>around counting money.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/ubis-yearly-sales-up-36-on-rainbow-six-vegas-2-assassins-cre/">Ubi's yearly sales up 36% on Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Assassin's Creed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Apr 2008 18:29:00 EST. In an attempt to address criticism aimed at the game's repetitive "investigation missions," Ubisoft has detailed (via <a href="http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/856/856534p1.html">IGN</a>) some of the enhancements made to the PC version of free-roaming bump-off sim, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a>. Four new types of missions will be added to protagonist Altair's premortem preamble, including "archer assassination," which tasks players with stealthily eliminating rooftop guards, and "escort challenge," an exercise in protecting a fellow (seemingly inept) assassin as he wanders to a specific location. Also new to the personal computer will be the rather impolite "merchant stand destruction challenge," a pastime that's sure to exude the same amount of subtlety seen in "rooftop race challenge." We're surprised Ubisoft didn't throw in some pizza delivery missions for good measure.<br /><br />Still, considering the more diverse activities and enhanced guard AI (no more blending right next to a corpse!), PC gamers won't be waiting until "early April" without compensation. And just so you know, we never partook in all the assassin hate -- we liked the clambering and killing well enough to put it in our list of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/game-of-the-year-07-assassins-creed/">top ten games of last year</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/ubisoft-details-assassins-creed-pc-enhancements/">Ubisoft details Assassin's Creed PC enhancements</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 11:25:00 EST. We haven't heard much about the DS version of Ubisoft mega smash <em>Assassin's Creed </em>since we learned of its existence <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/assassins-creed-ds/">back in October</a>, but we've finally had a little light shed on it by a GoNintendo reader who seems to have nabbed the game's box art. <a href="http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/assassinds.jpg">Click here</a> for an embiggened version.<br /><br />We're kind of intrigued by the "Explore a fully-rendered 3D world" part, and a bit perplexed by using the stylus to pickpocket items from unwitting targets. We're also a bit troubled by the name, <em>Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles</em>. We've learned through the years that "Good Game Title: Character Name's Story/Tales/Chronicles/Adventures" is almost always a recipe for sadness. Here's hoping this one proves us wrong.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/11/assassins-creed-ds-is-altairs-chronicles-a-prequel/">Assassin's Creed DS is 'Altair's Chronicles,' a prequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jan 2008 09:00:00 EST. <strong><em>Pac-Man Championship Edition</em></strong> (XBLA)<br /><br />If not worthy of a Top 10 spot, then certainly Pac-Man deserves Joystiq's 'Comeback Player of the Year' award. I covered <em>Pac-Man CE's</em> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/chasing-pellets-pac-man-tries-to-make-history-again/">overblown launch</a> in early June, but it wasn't until I became a devoted player at home that I realized the sheer genius of the first true <em>Pac-Man</em> sequel since 'the Ms.' hit the maze in '82. Designer Toru Iwatani managed to scrape off a quarter-century of rust and fashion a remarkably relevant game that held me down during an otherwise punishing summer drought. <em>Geometry Wars</em> might be the most celebrated, but <em>Pac-Man CE</em> is Xbox Live Arcade's true star.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-james-picks-of-2007/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: James' Picks of 2007</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/best-of-the-rest-james-picks-of-2007/">Best of the Rest: James' Picks of 2007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 Jan 2008 13:30:00 EST. Ubisoft's hugely anticipated bump-off sim created quite the controversy, though oddly not for the stylish and quite visceral violence it so gleefully inflicted upon authority figures. Instead, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> (or <em>Assassin's Crud</em>, depending on who you ask) divided critics, with some being utterly engaged by the game's unique setting and others thinking the same environment to be remarkably empty. Count us among the former, as we've yet to see a bigger, more lavishly detailed and immersive world than the one dashed through, clambered up and vaulted over in<em> Assassin's Creed</em>.<br /><br />The game's greatest design flaw may be that it's a bit too open-ended for its own good, refusing to overtly reward or punish players for behaving in a specific way. If you wish, you can spend a lovely afternoon playing <em>Maniacal Guard Killer's Creed</em> instead, carrying out your missions with all the stealthy maneuvering of a grand piano rolling down an escalator. Would it have been wiser for Ubisoft to beat you over the head every time you set off a medieval alarm and otherwise played the game "wrong?" Perhaps... but isn't the point of open-ended gameplay to let you choose your own path?<br /><br />
<div align="center"><img vspace="4" hspace="0" border="1" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/assassins-creed-goty-07b.jpg" alt="" /><br /></div>
<br />In many ways, <em>Assassin's Creed</em> is more of a role-playing game than most of the titles officially labeling themselves as such. When you play as Altair -- <em>really</em> play as him, as an assassin -- and measure failure according to your own actions and not what a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_2"><em>Fission Mailed</em></a> screen tells you, the game's intricate world becomes inescapably engaging. Learn about your target, plan your attack and revel in the <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/411493">absolutely thrilling chase</a> that follows your murderous deed. Though the game's overall structure may seem repetitive in the face of such a believable world, the true magic in <em>Assassin's Creed</em> lies not in <em>what</em> you do, but <em>how</em> you do it.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed/">Assassin's Creed</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed/553339/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/assassins-creed-123107-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed/553342/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/assassins-creed-123107-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed/553343/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/assassins-creed-123107-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed/553344/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/assassins-creed-123107-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/assassins-creed/553351/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/assassins-creed-123107-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />

Apparently the stories that a video game's parents tell it really are true: One game <em>can</em> make a difference! <br /><br />In an inspiring story that's sure to be adapted into a Disney animated film (featuring the voices of Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake and Robin Williams as the side-splitting "Ubi"), the sales of <em>Assassin's Creed</em> (at 2.5 million <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/assassins-creed-kills-with-2-5-million-sold-ubi-ups-fiscal-for/">last week</a>) may have been enough to save Ubisoft from EA's clutches. <br /><br />Financial Times reports that strong sales of the game has helped Ubisoft increase its value to approximately $4.3 billion, meaning that it may just be too expensive of a pickup for EA at the moment. Of course, with the threat of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Activision-Blizzard/">Activision Blizzard</a> looming, who knows how far EA will go to keep its market share?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31604">Gi.biz</a>]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.ft.com/cms/s/7d6deb8e-acd3-11dc-b51b-0000779fd2ac,Authorised=false.html?_i_location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ft.com%2Fcms%2Fs%2F0%2F7d6deb8e-acd3-11dc-b51b-0000779fd2ac.html%3Fnclick_check%3D1&amp;_i_referer=&amp;nclick_check=1">Read</a> -- Ubisoft's assassin and the creed of creative defense (registration required)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/18/assassins-creed-could-save-ubisoft-from-eas-maw/">Assassin's Creed could save Ubisoft from EA's maw</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 18 Dec 2007 12:45:00 EST. Ubisoft announced that in the month since launch its love-it or hate-it epic <em>Assassin's Creed</em> has sold 2.5 million copies globally. The company said the title has "greatly outstripped" its <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/assassins-creed-passes-25-million-sold-ubisoft-raises-guidance/18847/?biz=">sales expectation</a> and the game is the fastest-selling new video game IP in US history. The company now expects to sell a minimum of five million copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> before the end of their fiscal year in March '08.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> is also boosting its income expectation by 12%, it raised fiscal year projections by an extra &euro;15 million to &euro;840 million ($1.2 billion). The company also says that <em>Tom Clancy's End War, Brothers in Arms</em> and <em>Far Cry 2</em> are scheduled for its next fiscal year beginning in April. Ubisoft plans to lay out its games portfolio for next year on Jan. 23, '08.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/assassins-creed-kills-with-2-5-million-sold-ubi-ups-fiscal-for/">Assassin's Creed kills with 2.5 million sold; Ubi ups fiscal forecast</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Dec 2007 13:00:00 EST. This week, rapid-fire ranter Yahtzee turns his verbal assassination skills on a game with a matching murderous motif, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a>. Though Ubisoft's expansive bump-off sim has divided gamers and critics alike, Yahtzee picks <a href="http://podcasts.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/joystiq-podcast-027-chocolate-log-edition/">a clear side</a> by the end of this <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2694-Zero-Punctuation-Assassin-s-Creed">Zero Punctuation</a> episode -- and it's not the one you might expect. Though he didn't approve of the combat or "wordy" dialogue (watch out, <em>Mass Effect</em>), it seems the <em>Prince of Persia</em>-esque platforming and non-linear "faffing about" convinced the man with the sweet hat to give the game an overall thumbs up.<br /><br />Didn't see that coming, did you? That's the conclusion reached by one Rob Cooper, the man in charge of both Ubisoft UK and the festivities following the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/assassins-creed-tops-uk-charts/">triumphant debut</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> at the top of the UK charts. The ambitious bump-off bonanza became the third-fastest selling Xbox 360 game ever, a fact which Ubisoft sees as confirmation that we don't <em>all</em> want games with roman numerals and pretentious colon usage in the title. "I think the success worldwide of Assassin's Creed absolutely proves that new IP can live and prosper within the sequel and licensed based competition," said Cooper, speaking to <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/28959/Ubisoft-New-IP-is-a-serious-business">MCV</a>. "The industry is crying out for new and compelling content and we're delighted that AC has lived up to its expectations."<br /><br />Sales expectations, perhaps, but whether or not the game itself <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/todays-rudest-video-altair-is-kind-of-a-jerk/">delivered</a> depends on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/penny-arcade-doles-out-criticism-of-assassins-creed-criticism/">who you ask</a> and how <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3164530">myopic</a> their viewpoints are. Don't bother asking <em>us</em> though -- we're too busy being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/todays-rudest-video-altair-is-kind-of-a-jerk/">medieval jerks</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/23/ubisoft-uk-boss-industry-crying-out-for-new-ips/">Ubisoft UK boss: Industry 'crying out' for new IPs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 23 Nov 2007 16:15:00 EST. <div align="left">With news slowed to a slight trickle and good games coming in a torrent, we're forced to veer from the typical format to talk about the games we've been playing. If you're looking for the <span style="font-style: italic;">secret, inside scoop</span> on <span style="font-style: italic;">Mass Effect</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Assassin's Creed</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Rock Band</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Kane and Lynch: Dead Men</span> or a bevy of other titles, we've got it. Also, space lesbians, a Brush With Fame and blood balloons. It's a bargain at any price.<br /> </div>

Ubisoft's parkour piece man sim, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a>, has scurried to the top of the UK sales charts, bumping off <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cod4"><em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em></a> in the process. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30777">GamesIndustry.biz</a> reports that the Xbox 360 version gathered 67% of total sales, with the PlayStation 3 edition accounting for <strike>43%</strike> <strike>62%</strike> the rest. The speedy commercial success also made Altair's anachronistic adventure the fastest-selling new IP since 2002's <em>The Getaway</em>. <br /><br />In other<em> fastest-selling</em> title news, Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/supermariogalaxy"><em>Super Mario Galaxy</em></a> managed a number five spot, flying off shelves faster than any other Wii title before it. But what of the games in-between the portly plumber and the murderous flag gatherer? The aforementioned <em>Call of Duty 4</em> wound up in second place, <em>The Simpsons Game</em> in third and <em>WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008</em> in fourth.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/assassins-creed-tops-uk-charts/">Assassin's Creed tops UK charts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Nov 2007 19:58:00 EST. Plenty of review outlets have given Ubisoft's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AssassinsCreed/">Assassin's Creed</a></em> extremely <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/metareview-assassins-creed-xbox-360-playstation-3/">favorable scores</a> -- GamePro, GameSpot, GameTrailers, and Game Informer all scored the game at 90/100 or better. However, certain outlets found the game less appealing, and judged it as a 70/100 -- 1UP, EuroGamer, and GameSpy -- and Penny-Arcade's Gabe <a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com/2007/11/14">isn't buying what they're selling</a>.<br /><br />"If <em>Assassin's Creed</em> actually was a 7.0 game I'd tell you," said Gabe in Wednesday's news post. "I also want you to know that when I tell you it's fucking incredible I'm not bullshitting you because we're running ads for the game." He then goes on to comment specifically on the complaints he's read in various reviews:<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/penny-arcade-doles-out-criticism-of-assassins-creed-criticism/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Penny Arcade doles out criticism of Assassin's Creed criticism</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/15/penny-arcade-doles-out-criticism-of-assassins-creed-criticism/">Penny Arcade doles out criticism of Assassin's Creed criticism</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 Nov 2007 23:15:00 EST. Sometimes, we almost wonder if gamers really wanted <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AssassinsCreed/">Assassin's Creed</a></em> to actually make it onto shelves. Not that they don't want to play the game per se, but because they seem so <em>gosh darn infatuated</em> with that pretty Miss <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/JadeRaymond/">Jade Raymond</a> that they couldn't bear to go a couple years without playing another game produced by her. End run on sentence.<br /><br />Why? Because that equates to a decrease from the googolplex of daily postings and interviews on her game, her wardrobe choices, and thanks to <em>some blogs</em>, comments on the same parts one of hundreds of thousands of other women you've seen in your life has she's equipped with. (If I see stat modification comments in this post I swear to some higher power the outcome -- for you -- will not be pretty.)<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/metareview-assassins-creed-xbox-360-playstation-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Metareview: Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/metareview-assassins-creed-xbox-360-playstation-3/">Metareview: Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Nov 2007 08:30:00 EST. The game releases next week and it's time to lay on the marketing thick. We must <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/27456.html?r=1&amp;type=wmv">give props</a> to Ubisoft's marketing and the commercial's creators for sticking with almost all in-game engine scenes. We certainly appreciate when a game commercial pretty much lays out a "what you see is what you get" approach to advertising. It really doesn't hurt that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed/"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> is gorgeous. <br /><br />Reviews are already starting to trickle in, but we'll wait until the non-exclusive reviews start getting posted to get a better feel for what the critics are actually thinking. We'll admit it -- we're fans of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kristen%20Bell/">Ms. Bell</a>, from the spunky, spitfire junior private eye she played in <em>Veronica Mars</em> to the unseen, but ever present blogger in <em>Gossip Girl</em>, and even the lead in the god-awful <em>Pulse</em>. So, naturally, when she <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/14/assassins-creed-secret-plot-slipped-by-veronica-mars-star/">let it slip last December</a> that she was contributing to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Assassins+Creed">Assassin's Creed</a>, our hype meter exploded under the pressure.<br /></div>
<br />Now, giving us a little taste, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft">Ubisoft</a> released the first image of what Kristen Bell looks like in the game. Despite a less than flattering hair style, the actual rendering looks extremely similar. Speaking about Kristen Bell, producer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/joystiq-interviews-jade-raymond-of-assassins-creed/">Jade Raymond</a> stated she "is a remarkable actress who was able to bring her character to life in a dynamic way that I don't think anyone else could have done properly." We'd still prefer some QT with the less creepy Bell any day of the week, though.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/kristen-bell-gets-digitized-for-assassins-creed/">Kristen Bell gets digitized for Assassin's Creed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Nov 2007 12:56:00 EST. We've been big supporters of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Assassin%27s%20Creed">Assassin's Creed</a></em> throughout its development. Not only because it looks fantastic, but because the advertising for the game has been incredible and we are <em>very</em> easily swayed. Thankfully though, it seems our faith has not been misplaced: The game walked away with a combined score of 37/40 from the notorious reviewers at <em>Famitsu. </em>(You can see a tiny scan <a href="http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5251069024/m/7361030306">right here</a>.)<br /><br />As a point of reference, 37 is one point lower than <em>Super Mario Galaxy</em> and the same as <em>Halo 3 , </em>so it seems that Ubisoft's marketers can now add "critically acclaimed" to <em>Assassin's Creed</em> ads. ... As if they needed to be <em>more</em> compelling.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38781">EvilAvatar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/02/assassins-creed-nabs-37-40-from-famitsu/">Assassin's Creed nabs 37/40 from Famitsu</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 Nov 2007 15:25:00 EST. We always said we'd cut off our left hand ring finger and replace it with a retractable blade to find out the <em>Assassin's Creed</em> release date. Fortunately, Ubisoft didn't make us keep our end of the bargain, announcing the game <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202622">has gone gold</a> and will arive November 13 -- that's less than three weeks away.<br /><br />In what is now an uncharacteristic move, the game will come out simultaneously on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/assassins-creed-collectors-set-is-super-sexy/">limited edition</a> version will be made available at the usual $10 addition ($69.99). As noted by the press release, those who order either version from GameStop will also receive an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/ubisoft-on-assassins-creed-art-direction/">art</a> book.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/25/assassins-creed-is-gold-strikes-november-13/">Assassin's Creed is gold, strikes November 13</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Oct 2007 15:27:00 EST. While we're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/joystiq-hands-on-assassins-creed/">quite excited</a> about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/AssassinsCreed/">Assassin's Creed</a></em>, we're worried the game can't possibly live up to the gorgeous concept art and character design (not to mention lofty game design goals) they've been showing off. Take this nearly two-thousand word <a href="http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=4292&amp;page=1">feature</a> on the CGSociety's website - with dozens of beautiful concept art images - looking at the art direction of the Ubisoft title: The beautiful Crusades-era architecture of cities like Damascus and Jerusalem and the striking assassin Altair are already visual hallmarks of the current generation of games, even if the actual game is still a relative unknown.<br /><br />[Thanks, Anton]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/22/ubisoft-on-assassins-creed-art-direction/">Ubisoft on Assassin's Creed art direction</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Oct 2007 13:44:00 EST. The three-part gameplay video chronicles an assassination mission in Montferrat: the <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26310.html">first video</a> is the intro; the <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26312.html">second part</a> is filler; and the <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26314.html">third part</a> is the kill and attempted escape (parts two and three after the break). <br /><br />Everything looks good until the third part when you see the combat. Sure, the cutscene killings look cool (a la <em>Heavenly Sword</em>), but the combat appears a bit slow and awkward (one guy fighting when there are ten other people standing around). As we learned during our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/joystiq-hands-on-assassins-creed/">hands-on</a> time with the game, there <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/ubisoft-no-demo-for-assassins-creed/">won't be a demo</a> for gamers to experience the "different" style of <em>Assassin's Creed</em> before its release. Eh, they've got a couple months to work out the combat kinks ... or longer.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/assassins-creed-gameplay-video-in-three-parts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Assassin's Creed gameplay video in three parts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/12/assassins-creed-gameplay-video-in-three-parts/">Assassin's Creed gameplay video in three parts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Oct 2007 18:00:00 EST. We'd heard about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/20/assassins-creed-collectors-set-for-pre-order-12-figurine-the/">Collector's Edition for <em>Assassin's Creed</em></a>, but now that we've laid eyes on that 12-inch figurine, our lust for it has reached fever pitch. Listen to that ... if you're quiet, you can almost hear significant others from all across the country wondering aloud "Where you're going to put that ugly thing" from more than <em>a month in the future.<br /><br /></em>While the Altair figure does look incredible, we're having some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/25/busted-big-daddy-page-up-and-running/">Big Daddy flashbacks</a> looking at his weapon. Oh tome, neither secret nor old, what information lies between the cover's fold? Whose to say if this promo material, reportedly obtained at a GameStop manager conference or a Best Buy Gamer's Day in Toronto if we're to "BELIEVE" NeoGAF, actually ruins Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/assassinscreed"><em>Assassin</em>'<em>s Creed</em></a> for you. It ultimately depends what you consider spoilers. <br /><br />Opinion: It doesn't contain any "Darth Vader is your father" level reveals, opting for more "Porkins dies in the Death Star fight" style non-spoilers. However, if you want to maintain your <em>Assassin's Creed</em> story virginity, you better steer clear of sidcuddlesGHIII's Photobucket account, which contains the entirety of the comic.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196715">NeoGAF</a>.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/08/assassins-creed-comic-provides-more-questions-few-answers/">Assassin's Creed comic provides more questions, few answers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Oct 2007 12:26:00 EST. When it's (supposedly) released in November, we have no idea if you'll love it, if you'll hate it or if you'll be indifferent. What we can say with plenty of confidence though is that the person in charge of making trailers for <em>Assassin's Creed </em>should win a <em>major award</em>. We're not sure what award you get for making really short movies that make viewers want to flip out and stab people, but they should win that one.<br /><br />We're sure you all remember <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/assassins-creed-gets-a-new-trailer/">this one</a>, now we have this rad new offering. Our session with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> began with a representative walking us through a sample mission (which, incidentally, is the same one Jade Raymond walked us through last night at the MS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/10/engadget-and-joystiq-live-from-microsofts-e3-2007-keynote/">press conference</a>) to show us the ropes. Of course, like any good company rep, he also made sure to lay down some readily quotable stats. First of all, the city featured in the demo, Jerusalem, is fifteen times larger than the city featured during last year's E3. Pulling the camera back, we could see that the city was indeed pretty damned big. What's more, our rep informs us that all of it is interactive. You can climb it, throw enemies into it, use it to hide, whatever. Every surface that extends more than 2" from a wall is scalable, and Altair -- <em>AC</em>'s protagonist -- will make his hand-holds realistically. In other words, there is no canned climbing animation. Finally, the city is populated with lots of NPCs, some of which can be hostile (guards and mad vagrants), others can be helpful, and the rest are neutral. And of course, they all have dynamic AI and other quotable features. But how does it play?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/joystiq-hands-on-assassins-creed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: Assassin's Creed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/joystiq-hands-on-assassins-creed/">Joystiq hands-on: Assassin's Creed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 16:29:00 EST. Didn't we play this game already? After unleashing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/ubisoft-dates-haze-splinter-cell-raving-rabbids-2-more/">yesterday's avalanche</a> of release dates and promptly crushing the month of November in the process, Ubisoft has removed any date and mention of the PC and Xbox 360 versions of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Haze/">Haze</a></em> from the list. Speaking to an Ubisoft UK representative, Joystiq was told that the mysterious disappearance could be attributed to the PlayStation 3 being "the only confirmed platform for <em>Haze</em>." Oh dear, it's <em>Assassin's Creed</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/26/the-mystery-of-assassins-creeds-exclusivity/">all over again</a>.<br /><br />Just last month, Ubisoft <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/haze-coming-2007-for-ps3-may-only-be-timed-exclusive/">described</a> the politically charged shooter as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/haze"><em></em></a>"leading on PS3," noting that "no exclusivity for any platform has been officially announced." Despite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/FreeRadical/">Free Radical's</a> director, Steve Ellis, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/haze-coming-2007-for-ps3-may-only-be-timed-exclusive/">stating</a> that the developer's chief challenge was "designing a solution that will work well across the platforms," <em>Haze</em> was theorized to be at the very least, a timed PS3 exclusive. The week-long release gap between the PS3's <em>Haze</em> and other versions shown on Ubisoft's initial schedule rendered such a conclusion comical, but not untruthful. What of the vanishing Xbox 360 and PC versions then?<br /><br />When we asked directly whether <em>Haze</em> was a PS3 exclusive or not, Ubisoft simply reiterated that the system was "the only confirmed platform." It's the same line we kept hearing when Ubisoft was dodging questions about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/04/rumor-assassins-confirmed-for-360-and-pc/">exclusivity haze</a> surrounding <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/assassins-creed-set-for-november-release/"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> -- a game which <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/04/rumor-assassins-confirmed-for-360-and-pc/">started out</a> on "PlayStation 3 and at this time, no other platform has been confirmed." Ubisoft later admitted a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/31/assassins-creed-confirmed-for-pc-not-xbox-360/">PC version</a> would "indeed see the light some day" (the <em>same </em>day, actually) and then finally confirmed an Xbox 360 version to an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/01/finally-assassins-creed-confirmed-for-360/">unsurprised audience</a>. <br /><br />Can we expect the same sequence of events for <span style="font-style: italic;">Haze</span>, or are <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/20/ubisoft-ceo-refines-message-sonys-ps3-price-is-right/">negotiations between suits</a> still active? We expect to get some answers (simple "yes" or "no" ones, preferably) at next month's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/MinE3/">Min-E3</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/20/ubisoft-yanks-haze-360-pc-from-release-list/">Ubisoft yanks Haze 360, PC from release list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jun 2007 12:25:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> has revealed the release dates for all of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/uber-ubisoft-ubidays-video-roundup/">major 2007 titles</a>, asking the majority of them to form a neat line in November and proceed to remove the contents of your wallet one by one. You're more than welcome to make a fuss about it, but having the sneaky men of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/assassins-creed-set-for-november-release/"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/a-splinter-cell-conviction-trailer-and-apology-to-sam/"><em>Splinter Cell: Conviction</em></a> within grasp of your neck renders such action unwise. <br /><br />A more notable entry in the release schedule (as posted by <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78000">Eurogamer</a>) is Free Radical's sci-political first-person shooter, <em>Haze</em>, previously described as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/haze-coming-2007-for-ps3-may-only-be-timed-exclusive/">"leading on PS3"</a> in a display of timed exclusivity: <br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Haze</em> (PS3) -- 23 November</li>
</ul>
Oh, you'll be wanting the release date for the other platforms as well:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strike><em>Haze </em>(Xbox 360, PC) -- 30 November</strike> [<strong>Update: </strong>Oh dear, Ubisoft has removed the Xbox 360 and PC versions of <em>Haze</em> from the current release list. We're waiting to hear back from Ubisoft on the matter.]<br /></li>
</ul>
Other key titles dated after the break include <em>Assassin's Creed</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/dark-messiah-blesses-xbox-360-forsakes-ps3-and-wii/"><em>Dark Messiah: Elements</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/todays-multiplying-videos-rabbids-gameplay/"><em>Rayman Raving Rabbids 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brothersinarms"><em>Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway</em></a>, and <em>Splinter Cell: Conviction. </em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/ubisoft-dates-haze-splinter-cell-raving-rabbids-2-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft dates Haze, Splinter Cell, Raving Rabbids 2, more [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/ubisoft-dates-haze-splinter-cell-raving-rabbids-2-more/">Ubisoft dates Haze, Splinter Cell, Raving Rabbids 2, more [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 12:30:00 EST. Videos from the game really <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/assassins-creed-gets-a-new-trailer/">tickle our "over the top" meter</a>, but could a DS port be anything but ... shoddy? Admittedly the source is about as reliable as a canoe made out of Cheetos, so we shouldn't get our gamers' hats all in a bundle just yet. <em>Assassin's Creed DS</em> could take the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/10/17/battles-of-prince-of-persia-ds-q-a/"><em>Battles of Prince of Persia</em> route</a> and share very little with its console brethren. Still, our interest has been piqued and we're ready to hear more. If more exists.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dsfanboy.com/2007/06/05/gamestop-reinforces-assassins-creed-front-mission-rumors/">DS Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/assassins-creed-ds/">Assassin's Creed ... As our significant others are so keen to remind us, we're easily swayed by advertising here at Joystiq. Take, for example, the announcement that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Assassin%27s%20Creed">Assassin's Creed</a></em> will have a <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/790/790573p1.html">limited edition release</a> on PS3 and Xbox 360. Normally we'd like to know a little more about a product before we agree to buy it, but after watching <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/assassins-creed-gets-a-new-trailer/">the trailer</a> we posted yesterday, we were ready to mail our credit card to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> with a heart-shaped slip of paper with our signature on it.<br /><br />For those who demand a little more info with their purchases, we humbly oblige. The $69.99 tin-encased game apparently really will be in limited quantities and will come with a figurine of titular assassin Altair, <a href="http://www.penny-arcade.com">Penny Arcade</a> comics and some short films, along with some other bonuses that we didn't have time to read before we totally went to the store to buy it. Not that it was on sale yet, but, like we said, we're <em>really</em> susceptible to advertising. Let's just hope there's no marketing for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/grand-theft-auto-iv-special-edition-announced-at-90/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/24/whos-your-big-daddy-bioshock-limited-edition-deets/"><em>BioShock</em></a> ... ah, crap, we'd better just start saving.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/05/22/assassins-creed-gets-le-consumer-whores-rejoice/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/assassins-creed-will-have-limited-edition/">Assassin's Creed will have limited edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 May 2007 12:00:00 EST.
