If you're not content with restricting your dude-shooting to dry land, you might want to divert your attention to <em>Battlestations: Pacific</em> -- through the morning of Thursday, February 3, the sky, sea and <em>undersea</em> shooter is half-off ($15) on the Games for Windows Marketplace.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/29/battlestations-pacific-half-off-on-games-for-windows-marketplac/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Battlestations: Pacific half-off on Games for Windows Marketplace</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/29/battlestations-pacific-half-off-on-games-for-windows-marketplac/">Battlestations: Pacific half-off on Games for Windows Marketplace</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Jan 2011 01:00:00 EST. We hope you like militaristic destruction, because that's what you're getting on Games on Demand this week. Up for grabs are three games about blowing stuff up and not much else. First is <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/endwar"><em>Tom Clancy's EndWar</em></a>, the 2009 voice-controlled real-time strategy game from Ubisoft. Next we have some WWII naval and air combat by way of <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/battlestations-pacific"><em>Battlestations: Pacific</em></a>. Finally, there's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/raiden-fighters-aces"><em>Raiden Fighters Aces</em></a>, a compilation of the <em>Raiden Fighters </em>arcade shoot-em-up series.<br />
<br />
You can add one of the games to your download queue with the handy Xbox Live Marketplace links below. Just remember that pricing and availability vary by region.<br />

Games on Demand, a.k.a. full game downloads, is one of the more recent additions to Xbox Live -- and today Microsoft has <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/press/archive/2009/12/03/az985.aspx">announced</a> that it's bringing the service to its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/games-for-windows-live">Games For Windows Live</a> platform beginning December 15. GFWL creative director Chuck Osieja calls the initiative "Microsoft's return to delivering Windows games built on unique LIVE experiences." The service has a rocky history of sporadic supported releases and last summer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/microsoft-makes-games-for-windows-live-free-for-all/">ditched its subscription fees</a> in the face of competition from the likes of <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/">Steam</a>.<br />
<br />
The move puts Microsoft up against Valve's digi-distribution service, which similarly offers community features and its own Achievements system, but boasts a much larger catalog at present. The GFWL Games on Demand initial lineup will include <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, <em>Red Faction: Guerrilla</em> and <em>Battlestations Pacific </em>along with new GFWL-enabled versions of 2D Boy's excellent <em>World of Goo </em>and Hemisphere Games' <em>Osmos</em> -- all titles currently offered by Steam, with some available via Stardock's <a href="http://www.impulsedriven.com/">Impulse</a> service. Microsoft hasn't divulged pricing for titles offered via GFWL Games on Demand.<br />
<br />
A reworked version of the former Windows Vista Ultimate Extra <em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSgdOa_t0K0">Tinker</a> </em>will be made available free to GFWL users when the Games on Demand service launches a week from next Tuesday.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/games-for-windows-live-adding-games-on-demand-beginning-dec-15/">Games for Windows Live adding Games on Demand beginning Dec. 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 15:30:00 EST. Eidos just fired off a press release, scoring a direct hit on our inbox, informing that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battlestations-pacific"><em>Battlestations: Pacific</em></a> will receive two resupply convoys in the form of the Mustang Pack and the Carrier Battle Map Pack. The first pack is available for download today and offers six new units (including the P-51 Mustang bomber, US Navy Alaska Class battleship, and Japanese Yamato Class battleship), along with 18 different pieces of nose art to be used online or off, and will set players back a cool 160<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($2). <br /><br />A more substantial DLC offering will come with the Carrier Battle Map Pack, a collection of four new maps that will be playable across all five multiplayer modes. These maps consist of locales such as the Philippine Islands, the Leyte Gulf, and Aleutian Islands, and will fetch a premium price of 800<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($10) when the pack releases on July 23.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific-mustang-and-carrier-dlc-packs/">Battlestations: Pacific Mustang and Carrier DLC packs</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific-mustang-and-carrier-dlc-packs/#2121863"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/bpmustangcarrierdlcimage12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific-mustang-and-carrier-dlc-packs/#2121862"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/bpmustangcarrierdlcimage8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific-mustang-and-carrier-dlc-packs/#2121861"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/bpmustangcarrierdlcimage11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific-mustang-and-carrier-dlc-packs/#2121860"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/bpmustangcarrierdlcimage7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific-mustang-and-carrier-dlc-packs/#2121859"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/bpmustangcarrierdlcimage6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/man-your-download-stations-for-battlestations-pacific-dlc/">Man your download stations for Battlestations: Pacific DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jul 2009 20:20:00 EST. We're not sure how much of the trailer is actual gameplay versus the game playing out, but rest assured you can find out for yourself by checking out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/battlestations-pacific-demo-coming-april-30/">demo on Xbox Live and PC</a>. <br /><br />You'll forgive us if we don't express heady excitement for the game as, like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/call-of-duty-producer-hints-at-end-to-wwii-games/">Treyarch's Noah Heller</a>, we're just kinda done with World War II titles. We know we've been lax in our coverage of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/battlestations-pacific"><em>Battlestations: Pacific</em></a>, and we hope you can forgive us. We're intrigued by a return to the game's signature blend of action and strategy, but it's just ... well, it looks like an old man game. We're sorry, but it does. The Joystiq staff, made up entirely of septuagenarians, is interested, but we didn't think the youngsters would be.<br /><br />We're breaking the cycle today, though, by reporting that a demo for the game will arrive on Xbox and PC on April 30. Stock up on Aspercreme for your soon-to-be-cramping thumbs accordingly.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/battlestations-pacific-demo-coming-april-30/">Battlestations: Pacific demo coming April 30</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 00:15:00 EST. Eidos has <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/882/882835p1.html">confirmed its E3 lineup</a> for the big show next month and, not surprisingly, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tomb-raider-underworld"><em>Tomb Raider Underworld</em></a> is on the list. It's not the only game though. Other 360 titles making an E3 appearance include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/just-cause-2"><em>Just Cause 2</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/battlestations-sequel-is-on-the-way/"><em>Battlestations: Pacific</em></a>. Both <em>Underworld </em>and <em>Just Cause 2</em> have been kept relatively close to Eidos' chest so far. Hopefully E3 will bring forth plenty of new details on these (arguably) highly anticipated titles. Also worth noting, IGN's report of the Eidos list implies that these games (along with <em>Monster Lab</em> for Wii) are merely the only games confirmed for E3, so it's possible we might see some others as well (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/geon"><em>GEON 2</em></a> here we come!).<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/eidos-bringing-lara-croft-to-e3-surprise/">Eidos bringing Lara Croft to E3 (surprise!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 16:00:00 EST. As the smoke clears following this morning's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/sci-plans-radical-restructuring-with-mass-layoffs-and-project-ca/">massive restructuring</a> efforts by Eidos parent SCi, we now know at least one franchise that has not been counted among those projects tossed into the circular file. Eidos has announced that development is underway on a follow up to last year's <em>Battlestations: Midway</em>, unsurprising given the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/24/sequels-eidos-announces-more-tomb-raider-hitman-just-cause/">known affection for sequels</a>. <br /><br />The new game, <em>Battlestations: Pacific</em>, is being created for both the Xbox 360 and PC. According to Eidos, the sequel will mark a return to the original's "unique blend" of action and strategy with 28 story missions across both U.S. and Japanese single player campaigns. In addition, players can expect a "slew of new air, sea, and land units" as well, including kamikazes and other WWII-era jets, as well as five new multiplayer modes. A final release date for the game has not yet been announced, but as soon as we know we'll pass the word along for those itching to gun down friends and family over the Pacific.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific/">Battlestations: Pacific</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific/#669327"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/bat_pac_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific/#669326"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/bat_pac_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific/#669325"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/bat_pac_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific/#669324"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/bat_pac_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battlestations-pacific/#669323"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/02/bat_pac_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/eidos-returns-to-open-water-with-battlestations-pacific/">Eidos returns to open water with Battlestations: Pacific</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 11:30:00 EST.
