The live-action trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops-2"><em>Black Ops 2</em></a>, apparently, deserves that title. The game focuses on a sentient three-wheeled motorcycle named I.R.I.S. (voiced by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1123189/">Lisa Foiles</a>) who is on the run from her creators and, by extension, the bike they've sent to retrieve her: S.P.I.K.E., voiced by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001598/">Robert Patrick</a>.<br /><br />As shown in the gameplay trailer above, I.R.I.S. is armed with automatic weaponry and is capable of dramatic, in-air martial arts, ala <em>Devil May Cry</em>/<em>Bayonetta</em>. S.P.I.K.E., who can be seen in the behind-the-scenes voice-actor trailer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/29/first-two-lococycle-trailers-show-off-gameplay-voice-talent-wa/#continued">after the break</a>, has a decidedly more sinister Ghost Rider feel, as opposed to I.R.I.S.'s sophisticated Tron vibe. Well, as sophisticated as a motorcycle dragging a person while punching dudes with its tires can look, at any rate.<br /><br /><em>LocoCycle</em>'s release window is still a painfully vague "2013."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/29/first-two-lococycle-trailers-show-off-gameplay-voice-talent-wa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>First two LocoCycle trailers show off gameplay, voice talent, wackiness</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/29/first-two-lococycle-trailers-show-off-gameplay-voice-talent-wa/">First two LocoCycle trailers show off gameplay, voice talent, wackiness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Aug 2012 13:30:00 EST. Not only did we learn a bit more about the game's characters, but we also added the word "gesitantly" into our ever-growing vocabulary of portmanteau, which was a pleasant surprise. A "plurprise," if you will.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/persona-4-arena-videos-display-sick-moves-goofy-work-environmen/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Persona 4 Arena videos display sick moves, goofy work environment</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/persona-4-arena-videos-display-sick-moves-goofy-work-environmen/">Persona 4 Arena videos display sick moves, goofy work environment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Jul 2012 06:00:00 EST. All of that buzz is attributable to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/10/sony-confirms-post-fungal-apocalypse-title-the-last-of-us-due-i/">the dramatic trailer</a> used to announce the title.<br /><br />Today, Naughty Dog released a behind-the-scenes making-of trailer for the announcement trailer. Within you'll see some of Naughty Dog's famous mo-cap work at play and probably suffer a bit of disappointment when you see <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0424534/">Ashley Johnson</a> in a mo-cap suit. Yes, we know you were expecting Ellen Page, but we're pretty sure Juno is totally dead in this post-apocalyptic future anyway.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/01/the-last-of-us-announcement-trailer-broken-down-in-making-of-vid/">The Last of Us announcement trailer broken down in making-of video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Feb 2012 18:15:00 EST. Despite their different time periods, the two Spider-Men of upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/spiderman-edge-of-time"><em>Spider-Man: Edge of Time</em></a> have plenty in common. The men behind the masks, however, <em>sound</em> significantly different from each other, as evidenced by the behind-the-scenes clip above.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/30/spider-man-edge-of-time-behind-the-scenes-vid-tells-the-tale-of/">Spider-Man: Edge of Time behind the scenes vid tells the tale of two Spideys</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Aug 2011 04:00:00 EST. If you were sent into inescapable spirals of discomfort while watching one of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega64">Mega64's videos</a> released this year, the video after the jump may very well kill you. It's a behind-the-scenes look at their take on <em>Limbo</em>, <em>Portal 2</em>, <em>Shenmue</em> -- and, of course, the horrified crowds they left in their wake.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/23/mega64-goes-behind-the-scenes-deeper-into-the-awkwardness/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mega64 goes behind the scenes, deeper into the awkwardness</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/23/mega64-goes-behind-the-scenes-deeper-into-the-awkwardness/">Mega64 goes behind the scenes, deeper into the awkwardness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 23 Apr 2011 19:00:00 EST. As if A.J. LoCascio's eerily accurate impression of Marty McFly wasn't haunting enough in-game, how about some live-action joshin' between LoCascio and the original actress who played Marty's love interest, Jennifer? That's just what Telltale has delivered in the latest trailer for the third episode of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/back-to-the-future"><em>Back to the Future: The Game</em></a>, starring multiple versions of Jennifer (played by original <em>Back to the Future</em> actress Claudia Wells, who was replaced by Elisabeth Shue in the sequels).<br />
<br />
For her part, Wells says she was "thrilled" when LoCascio asked her to reprise her role from the film. "I said, 'I wanna be Jennifer!'" she explains in the latest clip. And that's when things get ... <em>strange</em>. Head past the break and see for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/back-to-the-futures-third-episode-snags-claudia-wells-as-jennif/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Back to the Future's third episode snags Claudia Wells as Jennifer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/back-to-the-futures-third-episode-snags-claudia-wells-as-jennif/">Back to the Future's third episode snags Claudia Wells as Jennifer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 13:45:00 EST. We're not certain that we are either, but TT Games certainly has high hopes that we'll get to that point before <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-harry-potter">LEGO Harry Potter</a></em>'s delayed June release window arrives. <br />
<br />
The latest "Behind the Scenes" video (seen above) has employees from the UK-based developer detailing the enormous, immersive world that they've built (primarily out of LEGOs, as one might imagine). And though we might argue that we're not exactly looking for "immersive experiences" from our LEGO-based titles, well, it's pretty cute watching little LEGO Harry in action. Even "He Who Must Not Be Named" is kinda adorable with a cylinder head -- <em>how could we resist?!</em> <br />

Jele describes the development as akin to a kid in a candy shop, unable to pick just one item and instead choosing everything. While that sounds nice from a <em>quantity</em> perspective, we're hoping things play out as well in the <em>quality</em> department when the game finally arrives at retail in a couple weeks. Either way, at least there's a murderous dog, right?<br />

Regardless of how unfaithful it might end up being to its ludological source material, or how cheesy its dialogue is, or how poorly its actors perform, it's difficult for us not to get substantially excited by the two <a href="http://www.viddler.com/explore/Joystiq/videos/3153/">behind-the-scenes previews</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prince-of-persia-movie"><em>Prince of Persia</em><em>: The Sands of Time</em></a> we've posted above and after the jump. It looks to be, on all accounts, a Bruckheimer joint -- big, awesome and ... <em>uncerebral.</em> Like a big, clumsy elephant, riding a race car into a tornado made of swords. That's a spectacle we'll gladly drop $10.50 to witness once the film hits theaters May 28.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Prince of Persia film sneak peek reminds us of our Bruck-love</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/13/prince-of-persia-film-sneak-peek-reminds-us-of-our-bruck-love/">Prince of Persia film sneak peek reminds us of our Bruck-love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Apr 2010 13:30:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;"> </div>
If you, like us, were laboring under the impression that the entity known as <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/popcap-games">"PopCap Games"</a> was some sort of supernatural anti-free time <em>daemon</em> that simply <em>willed</em> release after release of perfectly polished and addictive gameplay into an increasingly submissive world, then you'll probably find <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2010/03/george-fan-how-insaniquarium-2-became-plants-vs-zombies.ars">this little writeup over at Ars Technica</a> intriguing. Apparently PopCap is just a video game developer, made up of real people who draw ideas out on notepads and tweak them as they see fit. Who knew?<br />
<br />
For example, its latest runaway hit, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/plants-vs-zombies"><em>Plants vs. Zombies</em></a>, started out as a sequel to <a href="http://www.popcap.com/games/free/insaniquarium"><em>Insaniquarium</em></a>, but as the gameplay was tuned more towards a tower defense-like setup and the idea arose of regenerating sunlight as a resource for the fight against the undead, the title morphed into the time-killer we know it as today. Of course, there's no doubt that a game that featured locust aliens and "jolly-moustache-potato-men" would have been just as fun, but it's good to know that the minds behind PopCap are, in fact, human. We'd like to use that knowledge to find a weakness and attempt to reclaim our long-missing boredom, but we're too busy playing its games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/plants-vs-zombies-started-as-insaniquarium-sequel-popcap-is-hu/">Plants vs. Zombies started as Insaniquarium sequel, PopCap is human</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Mar 2010 05:00:00 EST. Here's the thing about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/portal">Portal</a></em>: we love it so much, we want to know <em>everything</em> about it. Like, the dude that came up with that Test Chamber 14 setup? Yeah, tell us all about him and whether he was upset or proud that somebody figured out how to get through it <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6ajKUoqg-0">in five seconds</a>. That's why <a href="http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/03/19/meet-the-portal-2-team.aspx">this Game Informer video</a> is so fascinating.<br />
<br />
It's a brief documentary on both the DigiPen students and Valve veterans that created <em>Portal</em> -- and are subsequently now working on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/portal-2">Portal 2</a>.</em> It's like a video diary of completely attractive and charismatic people you may have a slight unprofessional obsession with. Frankly, they're our heroes ... even if Garrett admitted to LARPing at one point in his life.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/game-informer-introduces-the-minds-behind-portal-2/">Game Informer introduces the minds behind Portal 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 19:28:00 EST. Its creators must have anticipated our curiosity because they've put together a short-but-sweet behind the scenes video, which includes a rough cut of a scene that didn't make it into the final production.<br />
<br />
The micro-documentary also reveals some surprising trivia about the shoot, including the fact that the opening funeral scene was shot inside the cooling tower of an operating nuclear power plant. Oh, and the battle sequence? They filmed it at the bottom of a coal strip-mine. <em>Really?</em> We could have <em>swarn </em>it was New Mombasa.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/30/watch-the-making-of-halo-3-odst-live-action-short/">Watch the making of Halo 3: ODST live-action short</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Sep 2009 15:45:00 EST. This "behind the scenes" video of the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/borderlands"><em>Borderlands</em></a> reveals almost nothing of the game's development process. Were you ever curious as to how a Blu-ray disc is manufactured? <a href="http://www.news.com.au/technology/gallery/0,23607,5057861-5014321-1,00.html">NEWS.com.au</a> took a rare look into one of Sony's DADC factories and took some snapshots detailing the disc's journey from plastic crystal pieces all the way to the finished product. As you can see here, the factory is hard at work on the <em>PAIN</em> Blu-ray game, which is available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/16/europe-getting-a-pain-ful-blu-ray-next-week/">exclusively in Europe</a>.<br /><br />To see the entire gallery, click <a href="http://www.news.com.au/technology/gallery/0,23607,5057861-5014321-1,00.html">here</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3191">Blu-ray.com</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/the-birth-of-a-blu-ray-inside-the-manufacturing-plant/">The birth of a Blu-ray: inside the manufacturing plant</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 23:00:00 EST. On March 29, Metallica thrashes into <em>Guitar Hero </em>... axes blazing behind more than two decades of rock. Or for the less dramatic, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-Metallica/">Guitar Hero: Metallica</a></em> is <em>totally</em> coming out soon. Ever wonder what goes into developing a game, starring one of the world's most famous bands? Three new "Behind the Scenes" trailers with interviews and capture session footage with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo cover that very topic.<br /><br />Watch as the band rocks in mo-cap gear (video above), discuss the opportunity to introduce a new generation to their music and <em>finally</em> becoming rock stars after all these years (videos after the break).<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/behind-the-scenes-with-guitar-hero-metallica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Behind the scenes with Guitar Hero: Metallica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/behind-the-scenes-with-guitar-hero-metallica/">Behind the scenes with Guitar Hero: Metallica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 11:05:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">"You're not welcome here." That's the message Guerilla Games is trying to send to you all throughout <span style="font-style: italic;">Killzone 2</span>, according to the various members of the team who speak in this second episode of the behind-the-scenes documentary. They discuss the world of Helghan, the ideology of its people and how that's reflected in the architecture. Check out the video after the break to hear it and to see some more in-game footage. It won't tide you over until the game's release this Friday, but it's a start.</div>

Commitment. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Lionhead-Studios/">Lionhead Studios</a> has it. As the Microsoft owned developer created the world of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albion_(Fable)">Albion</a> in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Fable-2/" style="font-style: italic;">Fable 2</a> the team felt the only way to truly know every aspect of battle would be to train with professional swordsmen. It isn't the most exciting thing you've seen all day but the trailer does prove the team wants <span style="font-style: italic;">Fable 2</span> to be more than just another adventure. Also, think about the footage we'll never get to see from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogwarts">Hogwarts</a> when they went to train for magic casting animations!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/fable-2-devs-trained-for-maximum-authenticity/">Fable 2 devs trained for maximum authenticity</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Sep 2008 23:20:00 EST. The folks over at <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=0&amp;cId=3170015">1UP</a> have a nice feature about the making of <span style="font-style: italic;">Mirror's Edge</span>. With a little <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/mirrors-edge-is-delivered-onto-consoles-nov-11-pc-version-del/">under two months</a> to go before the Parkour-inspired FPS runs free at retail, the site talks with developers at DICE about the title and many people's initial apprehensions about the game's concept -- including EA CEO John Riccitiello. <br /><br />A video of the game's "proof of concept," which can be found after the break, shows just how much of the core mechanic remained intact, while changing the protagonist's gender and use of weapons. The article also covers how Faith was initially a multiplayer character before she took center stage and has several nice pieces of early concept art of the levels.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/mirrors-edge-proof-of-concept-clip/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mirror's Edge 'proof of concept' clip</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/mirrors-edge-proof-of-concept-clip/">Mirror's Edge 'proof of concept' clip</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Sep 2008 17:00:00 EST. It shows some of the backstory on the original Saturn game, as well as why Wii was the perfect fit for the new game. <p> Sony's been becoming quite versed in the promomentary -- documentaries meant solely to promote a certain product. Considering the incredible moves Logan can pull off in <em>Logan's Shadow</em>, that's certainly not a bad thing. After a brief introduction to Rucka's work, see how Logan can take out his enemies by using blind fire and grappling. We can describe it, but seeing it actually unfold in front of your eyes is another thing.<br /><br />This latest <em>Syphon Filter</em> title received a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/02/psp-fanboy-review-syphon-filter-logans-shadow/">9.0</a> from PSP Fanboy, and comes highly recommended.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/10/behind-the-scenes-of-syphon-filter-logans-shadow/">Behind the scenes of Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Oct 2007 09:45:00 EST. The <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/739/739841p1.html">latest entry</a> goes into the technical aspects of creating the game. Read the lengthy, but genuinely informative, blog to find out more on what kind of <strike>evil magic</strike> programming the team had to do to get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/14/death-jr-2-to-feature-hdr-lighting/">HDR lighting</a> running in the game. It gets pretty complicated, showing off scary XML code. I was personally fascinated by the images from the developer's tools (PB Viewer and Maya Viewpoint)-- this is the kind of behinds-the-scenes stuff that we don't get enough of. The blog also explains more complicated-sounding things like <em>vertex lighting</em> and <em>light seams</em>. Finally, they reveal some of the special visual effects the game will employ: softening, eggcrate, fisheye, ripple, and vortex.<br /><br />All this technical mumbo-jumbo's being thrown around to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Razzle_dazzle"><em>razzle dazzle</em></a> us, and I have to say it's sort of working. Although the game is going to pretty, the real test will come the game ships this <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/explorer/B000GI9LVK/2/ref=pd_lpo_ase/002-8624213-6159234?">Halloween</a>, when we'll be able to test all of its <em>gameplay</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/18/the-tech-behind-death-jr-2/">The tech behind Death Jr. 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Oct 2006 14:15:00 EST.
