The game, <em>Xblaze</em>, will be released this fall on unknown platforms in unknown regions, and may tie in with the BlazBlue universe/mythos. <br /><br />No further information is yet available, so at this point the game could be virtually anything. In true Rampant Speculation Theatre fashion, our <strike>hastily concocted</strike> <em>educated</em> guess is as follows: It will be revealed that the "X" in <em>Xblaze</em> is actually pronounced "cross," ala <em>Street Fighter X Tekken</em>. Yes, <em>Xblaze</em> will be the first cross-over fighting game ever to cross over with <em>itself</em>, pitting characters from <em>BlazBlue</em> against characters from, uh, <em>Blazblue</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/24/rampant-speculation-theatre-presents-xblaze-announced-by-arc/">Rampant Speculation Theatre presents: 'Xblaze' announced by Arc System Works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Mar 2012 17:30:00 EST. We managed to endure Sony's deafening gathering in the LA Memorial Sports Arena just long enough to spot a PlayStation Vita version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blazblue-continuum-shift-2">Blazblue: Continuum Shift 2</a>. A</em>n Aksys representative tells us it might end up with the subtitle of <em>Continuum Shift 2 +</em>.<br />
<br />
The 2D fighter is likely to be a launch title for Sony's new handheld, though Aksys has yet to finalize a release date. Compared to the recently released 3DS and PSP games, the Vita version of <em>Blazblue</em> boasts sharp HD sprites and beautiful, vivid colors, thanks to the system's OLED screen.<br />
<br />
Aside from some slowdown we encountered in a Ragna vs. Noel fight, it looks to be an excellent reproduction of the console versions (and will reflect their latest balancing updates). As an added bonus, the smaller screen obscures some of the jagged edges exhibited by the game's large sprites.<br />
<br />
The Vita's flat, segmented d-pad played nicely with <em>Blazblue</em>'s fast-paced combat, and an Aksys representative said that the development team is thinking of using the rear touchpad for <em>something</em>. Don't force it, guys!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/blazblue-continuum-shift-2-being-considered-for-vita-launch/">Blazblue Continuum Shift 2 being 'considered' for Vita launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Jun 2011 03:30:00 EST. Aksys Games <a href="http://www.aksysgames.com/2011/03/16/japan-benefit-sale/">put stuff on sale</a> last month and donated all the proceeds to earthquake relief for Japan. Now it's offering an even more generous charity initiative: it's selling a limited-edition shirt featuring cute BlazBlue characters and the word "hope," for $20. Not only do all the proceeds from sales go to relief efforts, but Aksys will match that contribution.<br />
<br />
So, for your $20, $40 ends up going to help Japan, and you get an adorable t-shirt. Not bad! Don't think about it too hard -- according to the announcement, " They are limited in number, so if you want one, I suggest you buy one quickly when they go up."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/29/while-supplies-last-blazblue-shirts-for-japan-relief/">While supplies last: BlazBlue shirts for Japan relief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Apr 2011 17:35:00 EST. Two updates are coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/blazblue-continuum-shift"><em>BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</em></a> in May -- one free (to you), and one paid. A patch is being prepared, intended to alter the game balance of the console versions to be in line with the arcade release of <em>Continuum Shift 2</em>.<br />
<br />
It will also add new tutorials, new Challenge Mode content for every character, and tweaks and updates to the online mode and its interface. The patch also fixes a problem with Valkenhayn's Achievements in the Xbox 360 version. This won't cost you anything to download, but Aksys will still benefit financially -- the update also puts an ad banner on some in-game screens.<br />
<br />
The same month, Aksys will release a new DLC character, <a href="http://blazblue.jp/ac/platinum.html">Platinum the Trinity</a>, who will have new Achievements and Trophies to unlock. This character will cost $7.99 or 560 Microsoft Points.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-platinum-dlc/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (Platinum DLC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-platinum-dlc/#4063224"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/1-1303060371_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-platinum-dlc/#4063226"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/2-1303060379_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-platinum-dlc/#4063227"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/3-1303060388_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-platinum-dlc/#4063228"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/4-1303060394_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-platinum-dlc/#4063229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/04/5-1303060401_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/17/blazblue-continuum-shift-patch-new-character-dlc-coming-in-may/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>BlazBlue: Continuum Shift patch, new character DLC coming in May</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/17/blazblue-continuum-shift-patch-new-character-dlc-coming-in-may/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift patch, new character DLC coming in May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Apr 2011 15:00:00 EST. The new game will be based on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/26/blazblue-continuum-shift-2-throws-down-in-japanese-arcades-this/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2</a></em>, the latest arcade release, which is <em>itself</em> based on the PS3/Xbox 360 game <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/blazblue-continuum-shift"><em>BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</em></a>. What that <em>means</em> is that the PSP version will have all the new characters that were added in <em>Continuum Shift</em>, including the three DLC characters.<br />
<br />
It also has new additions to the strategy-game-esque Legion mode introduced in the first <em>BlazBlue Portable</em>, along with a new mode called "Abyss Mode," which Dengeki says will be "full of gameplay." What kind of gameplay? Nobody knows! The magazine speculates that it could be a dungeon RPG.<br />
<br />
<em>BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2</em> will be released this spring in Japan. We're checking with Aksys about its plans for North America.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/22/blazblue-continuum-shift-2-shifts-to-psp/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 shifts to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Dec 2010 01:00:00 EST. Hellsing</a>! It seems that way, at least, as Aksys has announced a sale on <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/blazblue-continuum-shift">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</a></em> DLC, including Mr. Hellsing and other downloadable characters.<br />
<br />
Today through January 7 on Xbox Live, and from January 4 through January 25 on PSN, you'll be able to pick up all the <em>Continuum Shift</em> downloads at a discount. If you were ever going to pay money for a different color scheme for your characters, now would be the time, since those are half-off. As for more substantive downloads, the unlock for the character Mu-12 is just a dollar, with Makoto and Valkenhayn available for $4.50 each. Arc System Works has announced the second at a Japanese event, and it's a familiar face to series fans. Rachel's butler, <a href="http://blazblue.wikia.com/wiki/Valkenhayn_Hellsing">Valkenhayn Hellsing</a>, will be joining the fight sometime in the near future. We all should have seen this coming: how can someone named Valkenhayn Hellsing <em>not</em> take part in epic battles?<br />
<br />
Arc System Works has yet to announce a price or release date for the character, and Aksys Games had no information yet about a stateside release. If the pricing follows Makoto's example, it'll be $7.99, 560 Microsoft Points, or 800 yen.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/10/blazblue-continuum-shifts-second-dlc-character-revealed/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift's second DLC character revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Aug 2010 01:00:00 EST. Arc System Works has finally revealed a launch date for the PC port of the first entry in its budding new fighting series, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blazblue-calamity-trigger"><em>BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger</em></a>. Japanese gaming site <a href="http://www.4gamer.net/games/108/G010823/20100723054/">4Gamer</a> reports Aksys Games is priming the Games For Windows Live version of the frenetic fighter for an August 26 PC release in Japan, for a suggested retail price of <span>&yen;5,040 ($58)</span>. Consider us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/esrb-rates-blazblue-calamity-trigger-for-pc/"><em>thoroughly shocked</em></a>.<br />
<br />
We've contacted Aksys Games for word on whether the PC version will be coming to our neck of the woods. We'll be sure to update you as soon as we hear back. For the console gamers out there, the sequel, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blazblue-continuum-shift"><em>BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</em></a>, is set to launch in North America next week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/24/blazblue-calamity-trigger-throws-down-on-pc-august-26/">BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger throws down on PC August 26</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 24 Jul 2010 10:00:00 EST. <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blazblue-continuum-shift">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</a></em> is set to launch on July 27 and, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/25/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto-dlc-aims-for-august-release/">soon thereafter</a>, fight fans will be able to download an additional character, Makoto. Rather than provide you with some hum-drum stills of the new character, we've got the next best thing: actual gameplay footage. Peep it past the break.<br />

Although <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue-continuum-shift"><em>BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</em></a> won't be out in America until July 27th, Aksys has unveiled its DLC plans. Makoto Nanaya will be available as a playable premium DLC character in August. Makoto is fast, but has a short reach, making her ideally suited for aggressive players that play a more offensive game.<br />
<br />
The DLC pack will not only add Makoto as a playable character, but it will also add a strategy guide in the Tutorial Mode, and a Challenge Mode, which will include high-level combos. Finally, there will be additional trophies and achievements unique for the DLC. According to Aksys, players that don't buy the Makoto DLC will still be able to fight against her in online matches; they simply won't be able to play as her.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto/">BlazBlue Continuum Shift (Makoto)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto/#3119554"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/js2010-06-0112-13-34bb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto/#3119555"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/js2010-06-0112-18-34bb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto/#3119556"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/js2010-06-0112-31-08bb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto/#3119557"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/js2010-06-0113-08-26bb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto/#3119558"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/js2010-06-0113-15-26bb_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/25/blazblue-continuum-shift-makoto-dlc-aims-for-august-release/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 'Makoto' DLC aims for August release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jun 2010 14:30:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue-continuum-shift"><em>BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</em></a> set to fight its way to the Xbox 360 and PS3 <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/aksys-announces-north-american-release-hype-train-for-blazblue/">this summer</a>, a cuter spin-off called <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/26/esrb-cute-blazblue-spinoff-bound-for-north-american-dsiware/">BlazBlue: Battle x Battle</a> </em>coming to DSiWare and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/blazblue-portable-confirmed-for-us-retail-playstation-store/">a PSP port</a> of the original fighter due soon, no platform is safe from Arc System Works' sprite-fueled fighter. Not even the PC, according to <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=29146">an ESRB listing</a>.<br />
<br />
The certificate makes no mention of when <em>BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger</em> will launch on PC, but it does remind us just how raunchy that game was: "includes still images of female characters -- in provocative poses -- wearing outfits that expose deep cleavage or barely cover their breasts." Remember when fighting games were just, you know, <em>fighting games</em>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/19/esrb-rates-blazblue-calamity-trigger-for-pc/">ESRB rates BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger for PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 May 2010 13:30:00 EST. Do you want a <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/mad-catz">Mad Catz</a> Tournament Edition <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fightstick">FightStick</a>, but ... bluer? Mad Catz and Aksys have just announced a <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/blazblue-continuum-shift">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift</a></em> FightStick, featuring imagery from the upcoming <em>BlazBlue</em> sequel. Like the latest revision of the Super Street Fighter IV stick, this controller features genuine Sanwa parts and internal storage for the 13-foot cable.<br />
<br />
Only 3,000 sticks will be produced: 1,500 each for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The only place you'll be able to get one is through Aksys's <a href="http://www.aksysgames.com/store/">online store</a>. Pre-orders will ship in June for $199.99. With those limited quantities, if you want one, you should probably look into that soon. We're holding out for a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/26/esrb-cute-blazblue-spinoff-bound-for-north-american-dsiware/">BlayzBloo</a></em> DS arcade stick.<br />

The ESRB just telegraphed plans by Aksys to localize the downloadable fighter -- under the strange title <em>Blayzbloo: Super Melee Brawlers Battle Royale</em>.<br />
<br />
Why "Blayzbloo"? Arc System Works differentiated the DSiWare game from the original title by spelling "BlazBlue" in Japanese <a href="http://blazblue.jp/dsi/">hiragana</a>, rather than the <a href="http://blazblue.jp/cs/">English alphabet</a> used for the main series. To preserve the change without using a different writing system, Aksys spelled it differently. It's pretty whimsical.<br />
<br />
Speaking of whimsy, the ESRB description of the arena fighting game describes the following modes: "
<meta charset="utf-8">last-man standing, hitting opponents to collect soba noodles, and capture-the-flag." We're contacting Aksys to find out when you'll be able to fight for noodles. <br type="_moz" />

Here's the good news: According to our budget-minded buddies (budgies?) at <a href="http://www.cheapassgamer.com/?f=1976">CAG</a>, GameFly has a sale on several appealing Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles, including <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum</em> (360 / $19.99), <em>Bionic Commando</em> (360 / PS3 / $9.99), <em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em> (360 / $14.99) and <em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em> (360 / $21.99). We also spy some stellar deals on R<em>ed Faction: Guerrilla</em> (360 / PS3 / under $15) and 2D fighter <em>BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger</em> ($19.99 / $24.99). GameFly games are guaranteed to be in working condition and include manuals and cases.<br />
<br />
And here's the bad news: The sale comes to an end on March 30. Also, our industry is woefully ill-equipped to produce a product called "Bionic Batman and the Br&uuml;tal Beatles" and will succumb to creative and financial bankruptcy long before you ever get to play something of such magnificent magnitude. Oh well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/24/gamefly-sale-bionic-batman-and-the-brutal-beatles/">GameFly sale: Bionic Batman and the Brutal Beatles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Mar 2010 11:02:00 EST. Retailer GAME posted an updated <a href="http://www.game.co.uk/Games/Xbox-360/BlazBlue-Calamity-Trigger/~r346457/">listing</a> for the game, and publisher Zen United confirmed the date in response to an enquiry by Joystiq.<br />
<br />
According to Zen, the UK release of both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the fighter has been moved to April 2. In addition, the PS3 version of the game will hit stores elsewhere in Europe on that day, with the Xbox 360 version still scheduled for March 26. <br />

Instead of uninterrupted footage of giant sprites brawling, Arc has presented what looks like the game's intro, a hyperkinetic anime clip featuring dramatic poses, exciting fight sequences, and ... the Earth being shot from orbit?<br />

At the end of the trailer, after the release date, is a brief reminder of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/blazblue-continuum-shift-gaining-a-character-in-console-port/">new character</a> added to the console version of Continuum Shift: the new character &mu;-12. That is, if they're playing it on the PS3 or have a Japanese Xbox 360. Arc System Works announced the Japanese release date, July 1, at a <em>BlazBlue</em> fan event. In addition to the previously announced beginner mode, legion mode and extra characters, <em>Continuum Shift</em> adds 300 new challenges in a "Challenge Mode."<br />

The non-monetary cost for all these extras: the covering of the European box art with a plain slipcover. The <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/01/neogaf_decides_blazblues_europ.php">art</a> for the regular edition was painted by Daniel Lam, a fan who won an art <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2010/01/neogaf_decides_blazblues_europ.php">contest</a> held by Arc System Works. While that art will still be on the case, it'll be obscured by the outer box. A shame.<br />

<br />
According to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/02/09/blazblue-continuum-shift-heads-to-consoles-with-an-extra-character/">Siliconera</a>, the new home release will also include a beginner mode, and the strategic Legion Mode introduced in <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/blazblue-portable"><em>BlazBlue Portable</em></a>. So you'll be able to randomly mash buttons as usual, but you'll win <em>territory</em> by doing so. No time frame or consoles are known at the moment, but the original <em>BlazBlue</em> was released on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/09/blazblue-continuum-shift-gaining-a-character-in-console-port/">BlazBlue: Continuum Shift gaining a character in console port</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Feb 2010 14:30:00 EST. Like a villain from some cheesy show back in the '70s, you haven't seen the last of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>. The latest issue of Famitsu (via <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/02/04/loveplus_and_blazblue_sequels">Andriasang</a>) confirms that <em>BlazBlue Continuum Shift</em> -- presumably a home console installment of <a href="http://blazblue.jp/cs/">the recently released arcade game</a> of the same name in Japan -- is currently in the works.<br />
<br />
What was a one-off fighting game in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/review-blazblue-xbox-360-ps3/">the summer of 2009</a> has grown into a full-on franchise, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/blazblue-portable-confirmed-for-us-retail-playstation-store/">a PSP port</a> and <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/blazblue-battle-x-battle-out-this-week-on-japans-dsiware-store/">DSiWare spin-off</a> already out mixing it up amongst fight fans, so the safe bet is that <em>Continuum Shift</em> is a new retail game. However, the info is coming from a leaked Famitsu cover on Enterbrain's site -- which has since been pulled, but can still be seen on Andriasang -- that only mentions the title of the game, so that's all we have to go on right now.<br />
<br />
We'll be sure to keep you posted as information becomes available.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/04/blazblue-continuum-shift-confirmed-by-leaked-famitsu-cover/">Rumor: BlazBlue Continuum Shift on leaked Famitsu cover</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Feb 2010 15:00:00 EST. Remember those? It's also a good one! It's the sole new game on the Virtual Console this week, with the lineup bolstered a <em>bit</em> by <em>Phoenix Wright</em>'s sequel and a rock-paper-scissors game.<br />
<br />
The weird (but cute) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/blazblue-battle-x-battle-out-this-week-on-japans-dsiware-store/"><em>Blazblue </em>DSiWare fighter</a> is out this week, ready to delight all the, uh, DSi owners looking for a four-player online fighting game. They're out there somewhere! Also on DSiWare: <em>Burning Puzzle Flame Tail</em>, a very odd, but interesting-looking vertically scrolling puzzle game from Mindware. Essentially, you control a structure with (of course) a flaming tail, snaking through rectangular structures and burning them.<br />

Like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/">many fighting game fans</a>, you really enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a> last year, but you had this irking feeling that the game would be just perfect if the characters were only a little more ... <em>kawaii</em>. Good news! Your wish has come true. Arc System Works says that its DSiWare version of the acclaimed fighter is ready to go. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue-battle-x-battle"><em>BlazBlue: Battle x Battle</em></a>, which features big-headed cutesie versions of the full game's fighters battling it out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/power-stone"><em>Power Stone</em></a>-style, will be available <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/01/25/blazblue-battle-x-battle-debuts-this-week/">on the DSi's downloadable store this Wednesday</a>.<br />
<br />
It looks, erm, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNROg2QJ4Yc">interesting</a>. Unfortunately, even if you were waiting to see a 2D franchise go 3D with hideously deformed versions of its characters, <em>Battle x Battle</em> is only available in Japan for now, so you'll either have to have a DSi from that region, or you'll have to wait until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aksys">Aksys</a> decides to release it here. If it keeps that 500 DSi point price, it might be worth a try.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/25/blazblue-battle-x-battle-out-this-week-on-japans-dsiware-store/">BlazBlue: Battle x Battle out this week on Japan's DSiWare store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jan 2010 20:15:00 EST. Confirming an earlier <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2010/01/11/blazblue-portable-heading-to-us-gamefly-listing-shows/">GameFly listing</a>, Askys Games has announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue-portable"><em>BlazBlue Portable</em></a> will be hitting, juggling and then pulverizing the US in a succession of 673 extra-dimensional laser punches this March. The PSP version of the frenetic fighter will be available via UMD at first, and then the PlayStation Store approximately two weeks later. <br />
<br />
Thankfully, fans of the console game's bold, 2D artwork need not worry about a calamity being triggered (hnngggghhh) in the miniaturization process. According to Aksys project lead Michael Manzanares, "Every frame of animation and hit box is painstakingly replicated from the original game, so all of your combos work without a hitch. And new Unlimited versions of your favorite characters don't hurt, either."<br />
<br />
BlazBlue Portable will also support multiplayer battles via Ad-Hoc mode, so you can punch all your friends -- right in their foolishly unprotected <em>hit boxes</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/blazblue-portable-confirmed-for-us-retail-playstation-store/">BlazBlue Portable confirmed for US retail, PlayStation Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 19:44:00 EST. One of the best fighting games of the current generation has to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, the latest from<em> Guilty Gear </em>creators Arc System Works. A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/11/blazblue-psp-fires-up-a-new-trailer/">PSP version</a> is currently in the works, and as is typical of many Japanese games, no US release has been announced. That's likely to change, as <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/01/11/aksys-triggering-us-release-of-blazblue-portable/">Siliconera</a> has discovered a <a href="http://www.gamefly.com/game/psp-games/BlazBlue-Calamity-Trigger/141155/">GameFly</a> listing for the PSP version of <em>BlazBlue</em>.<br />
<br />
According to the rental site, the publisher is none other than Aksys, distributors of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. Considering Gamefly's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/07/gamefly-listing-indicates-dragon-age-origins-delay/">penchant</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/ps3-version-of-star-ocean-the-last-hope-pops-up-on-gamefly/">leaking</a> releases, this should come as good news to PSP fans.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/11/blazblue-portable-heading-to-us-gamefly-listing-shows/">BlazBlue Portable heading to US, GameFly listing shows</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jan 2010 17:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-5"><em><strong>Resident Evil 5</strong></em></a><br />
I've long been a fan of the <em>Resident Evil </em>series, and while the campaign here has problems and should <em>never</em> be played solo, the Mercenaries mode is what kept me coming back. Those action-packed levels spent trying to survive while running low on ammo and health were some of my most chaotic, yet highly enjoyable, experiences of 2009.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/">Best of the Rest: Dave's Picks of 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Jan 2010 17:15:00 EST. Arc System Works has built a legacy of fighting games with its <em>Guilty Gear </em>franchise. Recently, the company introduced a new fighting franchise in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, and even though it was very well-received -- it's almost at a 90 on <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=relevance&amp;termtype=all&amp;ts=blazblue&amp;ty=0&amp;button=search">Metacritic</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/review-blazblue-xbox-360-ps3/">we certainly enjoyed it</a> -- fight fans want to know when they'll get more <em>Guilty Gear</em>. Well, based on comments made by series producer/creator Daisuke Ishiwatari to <a href="http://www.nowgamer.com/news/2122/next-gen-guilty-gear-in-the-works">NowGamer</a>, an Xbox 360 and PS3 installment may already be under consideration.<br />
<br />
"I have the full intention to create <em>Guilty Gear</em> for PS3 and 360." Ishiwatari said. There was even some talk of a <em>BlazBlue</em>/<em>Guilty Gear</em> crossover, though Arc System Works business development director Tomo Ohno avoided any definitive commitments. "<em>BlazBlue</em> is a new thing, and there might be some crossover but at the moment we don't have any plans."<br />

One of the best fighting games of this generation is coming to PSP. After watching this new trailer for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue">BlazBlue</a></em>, we were surprised to see how well the game's HD visuals have been translated for Sony's handheld. It appears the handheld version of the game will add a few new features -- Legion and Shop modes -- but most importantly, we'd want the gameplay to work on PSP's admittedly restrictive control setup.<br />
<br />
Check out the new trailer after the break.<br />

The game has made the transition to the PSP pretty well, at least from what we can tell in still images. The sprites are a lot less smooth, but still detailed, and the screen is still covered with flashy effects. <br />
<br />
The screens also show the new Legion Mode, in which territory you capture by winning fights is represented by connected nodes. <em>BlazBlue Portable</em> supports ad hoc multiplayer for up to four players, and can be played online with the PS3's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ad-hoc-party">Ad Hoc Party</a> mode.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/09/first-legion-of-blazblue-portable-screens-deployed/">First legion of BlazBlue Portable screens deployed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 14:15:00 EST. The portable release, out in Japan on February 25, will feature all the characters from the console game, and ad-hoc multiplayer for up to four. It'll also include a new Legion Mode in which players fight to gain territory on a game board. No screens or scans have been released yet.<br />

Considering the prolific nature of <em>Blazblue's</em> predecessor, the <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guilty_Gear_%28series%29">Guilty Gear</a> </em>series, and the fact that there's already an <a href="http://blazblue.jp/cs/">updated version</a> of the original game on the way to arcades, don't expect this to be the only port of <em>Blazblue</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/04/arc-system-works-porting-blazblue-to-psp/">Arc System Works porting BlazBlue to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 13:45:00 EST. Japanese gaming pub <a href="http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/194/194875/">Dengenki</a> recently polled its readers on what series they'd like to see translated into anime form. The Top 10 list looks nearly exactly the same as our own wishlist:<br />
<ul>
    <li><span>1. Persona 4</span></li>
    <li><span>2. Phoenix Wright</span></li>
    <li><span>3. Okami</span></li>
    <li><span>4. Kingdom Hearts</span></li>
    <li><span>5. Idol Master</span></li>
    <li><span>6. Metal Gear Solid</span></li>
    <li><span>7. Yakuza</span></li>
    <li><span>8. BlazBlue</span></li>
    <li><span>9. Persona 3</span></li>
    <li><span>10. Atelier Rorona </span></li>
</ul>
Atlus' PS2 RPG <em>Persona 4</em> tops the list, managing to beat out some big names like <em>Kingdom Hearts</em> and <em>Metal Gear Solid</em>. Perhaps the success of <em>Persona: Trinity Soul</em> reminded readers that the franchise works in serialized TV format? While we'd certainly like to see another <em>Persona</em> anime, an adaptation of <em>Phoenix Wright</em> seems like a no-brainer. Capcom, are you reading this?<br />

Arc System Works' competent fighter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a> is set to invade Europe courtesy of PQube and, aside from including the US Collector's Edition character strategy guide and soundtrack, the press release also mentions "new gameplay content not available anywhere, like new characters and moves." This may come as a bummer to some of you that already picked up the game, because, in all likelihood, these new characters will be offered as DLC outside of Europe.<br />
<br />
The European release will be localized in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish, and will grace Xbox 360 and PS3 during Q1 2010. Yes, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/delays,@breaking"><em>that</em></a> Q1 2010.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/14/blazblue-punching-europes-face-with-new-characters-other-goo/">BlazBlue punching Europe's face with 'new characters,' other goodies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Aug 2009 16:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><span style="font-style: italic;">BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger</span></a> is a game that's going to immediately feel right for hardcore fighting fans. If you've cut your teeth on Arc System Works' <span style="font-style: italic;">Guilty Gear </span>franchise in the past, or enjoyed some of the more intense Capcom offerings in the 2D fighter genre, then the principles and mechanics of <span style="font-style: italic;">BlazBlue</span> are going to feel natural to you. <br />

Hardcore fighting fans are all talking about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/BlazBlue/">BlazBlue</a></em>, Aksys' foray into high-def 2D fighting. While equal numbers of 360 and PS3 copies were made, the PS3 version appears to be selling out faster than the other. Why is that? Well, it could be the system's superior D-Pad. While many players will opt for an arcade stick, those who play with a default controller generally find the DualShock layout more comfortable for 2D fighters.<br />
<br />
Or, it could be the rare implementation of <a href="http://www.onelastcontinue.com/9105/blazblue-ps3-version-unlocks-remote-play/">Remote Play</a>. With a sufficient wireless connection, players can play the game with the PSP system from anywhere in the world. This is one of the few retail titles to take advantage of the feature, the first being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/02/confirmed-lair-can-be-played-on-psp/"><em>Lair</em></a> (ugh).<br />
<br />
Perhaps players are taking advantage of the lack of region coding on the PS3 version. Without a European release in sight, some may look towards importing the American PS3 release. (The Xbox 360 version is region locked.)<br />
<br />
However, according to an Aksys representative, the main reason <em>BlazBlue</em> is more popular among PS3 owners is its popularity with Japanese gamers. Aksys' Harry Chang explained that many hardcore players want to play against Japanese players, and people know that the "Japanese players are mostly on PS3." Those that are seeking competition from Japan's best players know which version to choose. No wonder PS3 is Capcom's "platform of choice" at the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/07/08/attention-fighting-fans-prove-youre-the-best-around/">EVO Championship Series</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/ps3-version-of-blazblue-outselling-360-version-and-heres-wh/">PS3 version of BlazBlue outselling 360 version ... and here's why</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 17:00:00 EST. Aksys Games, publisher of the upcoming 2D fighter <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, has announced a partnership with Harcos, creators of the Mana Energy Potion energy drink (not to be confused with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/07/for-role-playing-times-make-it-suntory-time/"><em>Final Fantasy</em> potion</a>). Specifically, those who purchase <em>BlazBlue</em> from GameCrazy will receive a special Collector's Edition Mana Energy Potion. Judging by the picture, we'd say it's really more of a regular Mana Energy Potion in a spiffy box, but who are we to argue with a press release?<br />
<br />
Still, if you love 2D fighters and questionable energy products and live near a GameCrazy, you might as well go for it. <em>BlazBlue</em> releases this summer for Xbox 360 and PS3.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/28/buy-blazblue-at-gamecrazy-get-a-free-collectors-edition-mana-p/">Buy BlazBlue at GameCrazy, get a free collector's edition Mana Potion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 28 Apr 2009 16:45:00 EST. In this latest promotional trailer for summer's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, the company spotlights the people behind the game, the community surrounding it and what motivates it to pour its all into this fighting game franchise. It may not have much in the way of gameplay footage (well, <em>anything</em> in the way of gameplay), but it'll likely be enough to tide over the crazy 2D fighting fans out there. That's, um,<em> you</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/20/aksys-games-talks-about-the-drive-to-make-blazblue/">Aksys Games talks about the drive to make BlazBlue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Apr 2009 20:30:00 EST. With its global online support, we expected that Arc System Works' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/05/blazblue-throws-a-beatdown-on-ps3-xbox-360/">console port of arcade brawler <em>BlazBlue</em></a> would eventually be released outside of Japan. Now niche publisher Aksys has <a href="http://www.aksysgames.com/2009/03/04/blazblue-announced-for-north-america-bs/">quietly revealed plans</a> to bring the elegant 2D fighter to North America for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. <br />
<br />
Like their counterparts in Japan, fighting game fans in North America can look forward to mastering super moves and combos this summer, as players beat the heat by staying indoors away from bears and tiresome physical activity. With <em>King of Fighters XII</em> slated for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/king-of-fighters-xii-hits-ps3-360-worldwide-this-july/">a July release</a> as well, the only question we're left with is: How will our hands survive?<br />
<br />

Arc System Works, the folks behind popular 2D fighting franchise <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guilty-gear"><em>Guilty Gear</em></a>, are planning on bringing their high-def 2D fighter, <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/16/a-plethora-of-blazblue-stuff-just-for-you/"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, to the Xbox 360 and PS3 <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/959/959132p1.html">IGN reports</a>. Currently only available in Japanese arcades, the title is being ported to home consoles in the region, with release aimed at this summer. <br />
<br />
Notable additions to the console port include a story mode, with individual stories for each character available. This story mode will offer branching storylines based on the battles you win, as well as the choices you make while playing. Director Toshimichi Mori says the story mode easily offers 30 hours of gameplay.<br />
<br />
On top of that, gamers can look forward to online support for battling folks around the globe, as well as DLC, which Arc has planned, yet no specific items were mentioned. The console version of the game will also provide all characters with Astral Heat special moves, which were only given to a select few boss characters in the arcade version of the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/05/blazblue-throws-a-beatdown-on-ps3-xbox-360/">BlazBlue throws a beatdown on PS3, Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Mar 2009 14:27:00 EST. <p align="left">From the guys that brought you <em>Guilty Gear</em>, Arc System Works' latest 2-D fighter will be having its location test at Anime Expo 2008 taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from July 3rd - 6th. We previously reported on the game in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/16/a-plethora-of-blazblue-stuff-just-for-you/">February</a> and now there is an official website with some information plus a promise of "Coming this winter!" for the US. Though the location test takes place in the "console gaming room," this is the arcade version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue/">Blazblue</a></em>. Some of us here are huge 2-D fighter fans and we can't wait for this winter to try this out!</p>
