Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition's High Elf team revealed

One of the twelve new races to be introduced in Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition is the typically cerebral High Elves, pictured below. Sorry, but they shouldn't be any good at football. Not because they're so darn brainy, but because they're built like extremely tacklable stalks of wheat.

Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition coming to PC in 2010

Blood Bowl, you'll remember, is the wacky little mash-up between fantasy and American football that's based on the Games Workshop turn-based board game, taking place in the Warhammer setting. It's been tearing up the field since last year, but at the end of 2010, Cyanide and Focus Home Interactive are upping the ante with the newly announced Legendary Edition for the PC.

The Legendary Edition will add 12 new races to the current eight, so Undead, Amazons, Ogres and others will all get to toss the boarskin around in new stadiums and tournaments. The game will also include a story mode in which players will assume the role of a freelance coach tasked with rising up through the ranks. Sounds like fun.

SouthPeak bringing Blood Bowl to 360, PSP in 2010

The spectrum of available games distribution is wider than ever before, but we're not sure we've ever seen this exact configuration. After previously appearing as a downloadable PC game, fantasy footballer Blood Bowl will come to Xbox 360 and PSP, with an additional retail version on PC, courtesy of SouthPeak. The Warhammer-inspired game will take the field in January on 360 and PC, followed by the PSP in the more nebulous "Spring."

THQ publishing Blood Bowl in the UK

Cyanide Studios' pigskin-'em-up set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe is coming to the UK courtesy of THQ, as the publisher has announced it will make Blood Bowl available on September 18. Initially, the title will only be available on the PC, PSP and DS, with an Xbox 360 release to "follow at a later date."

Blood Bowl trailer everything but a blood bath

We haven't seen any gameplay of Blood Bowl yet, and, sadly, this trailer is no different. It does provide us with a taste of the color commentary that will frame the many conflicts taking place in the soon-to-be-bloody bowls, though. There's even a brief look at the many different races and squads that will take to the field in this most literal fantasy football title. In terms of quantity, it looks like the amount of teams will be somewhere between a lot and a whole freakin' lot.

Blood Bowl dev wants to work on Games Workshop's 'forgotten IPs'

If you're a fan of tabletop war games, you're probably hotly anticipating Cyanide's video game adaptation of Games Workshop's classic fantasy-football mash-up, Blood Bowl. You are also probably pretty old, and have a large, curly beard. Likely a gray or white beard, due to the aforementioned elderliness.

We've got great news for these senescent war game enthusiasts -- in a recent interview with Eurogamer, Cyanide's Antoine Villepreux explained the developer would be glad to tend to Games Workshop's "forgotten IPs that we think deserve video game adaptations." If the words Inquisitor and Mighty Empires bring haste to your old, old heart, a table-to-TV adaptation of your favorite Games Workshop franchises might be within the realm of possibilities.

Blood Bowl developer: making PS3 version 'a bit risky and expensive'

If you're a PS3-only gamer who happens to be a fan of vintage tabletop gaming, monsters, and football, then you are probably acutely, painfully aware of the lack of Blood Bowl video games in your future. Cyanide is making an Xbox 360 version -- why not use the same assets and codebase for the PS3 like so many others? What's the deal? Does it hate the PS3 or something?

In an interview with Destructoid, the developer explained its apparent snub on the platform. "Cyanide is a small company," a representative said. "We have no previous experience on that platform [and] it would have been a bit risky and expensive for us. But, we are hoping to do a PS3 version if the game is selling well."

So, rather than a lack of faith in the platform, Cyanide has somewhat of a lack of faith in its own ability to develop for it without killing the budget. It still means no PS3 version for now, but it also means no janky, poorly ported PS3 version for now. That's ... something. And if the other versions of the game, coming out in Q2 of this year, are successful, we may see a (good) PS3 version yet.

New Blood Bowl trailer pits rats against lizards

Like you, we've spent a good deal of time in our backyards, wrangling together neighborhood mice and lizards and forcing them to play miniature games of football. Now, a new trailer for the video game re-imagining of tabletop favorite Blood Bowl looks to bring that fun indoors, as the rat-like Skaven skitter about down field against brutish Lizardmen. That's something you won't see in Sunday's big game.

In development at Cyanide Studio, Blood Bowl is expected to take the field for the PC, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and PSP in the second quarter of 2009. Finally, we'll be able to settle the age old question of which is better at tossing around the pigskin: reptiles or stupid, stupid rat creatures.

Blood Bowl trailer channels Madden + Warcraft

Tabletop gamers are no strangers to the game Blood Bowl, which we mentioned back in November. The game has spanned 22 years, multiple editions and several expansion sets. The basic concept is "fantasy" football, literally. As in orcs, trolls, elves and the like playing an organized team sport where they try to tear their opponents' heads off. Check out the newly released, Warcraft-tastic trailer after the break.

New cinematic Blood Bowl teaser released

No doubt a whole bunch of you have been itchy to get your hands on something new regarding the upcoming title Blood Bowl. No? Well tough, we've got a newly released video to watch and you're going to sit there and like it. Unless you don't. Obviously there's no gameplay in this teaser trailer but it does a good job of introducing you to the world of Blood Bowl.

If you don't already know, it's a Games Workshop (tabletop gaming) game which sees Humans, Orcs and Elves compete in a brutal version of American Football. There's combat and magic and all sorts of strange stuff you don't see in normal American Football. Sounds like it good make a decent video, but we'll have to wait to see it in action to make any judgments there. Check out the teaser trailer on the Blood Bowl website.

A host of Blood Bowl screens

Don't be surprised if you've never heard of it. Blood Bowl was an old tabletop game from the makers of Warhammer. This version, announced last November for 360, PC, DS, and PSP, is being made by developer Cyanide and currently has no release date beyond Q2 2008. The thing about this news is that the game's distribution medium has not yet been announced. With the game seeing release on the handhelds, one can't see this title being very in-depth. But if the game is not very deep, one can't see it being a full release either. Will this end up being an XBLA title, or will it end up be closer to another recent release that had the graphical prowess of an XBLA game? The only obstacle to Arcade release we can see would be the game's file size. Anyway if it's an XBLA game thats great, we could always use more turn based strategy on there. Plus, the game has a real-time mode as well in case turn-based combat isn't really your thing.

Blood Bowl isn't just a vampire's breakfast

No, in fact it's a video game. Imagine that? Arriving courtesy of French developer Cyanide, Blood Bowl is a title based on the Games Workshop fantasy tabletop game of the same name. Cyanide assures us that the game will be a "faithful representation" of the tabletop experience, so fans should find their title intact on the DS, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
