It's generally accepted that while Microsoft may excel at creating software and platforms, it struggles with hardware. Just ask anyone that's replaced an Xbox 360 (that's just about everyone, right?). Also on that list: The original Xbox 360 Wireless Headset and the barebones Media Remote.<br />
<br />
That's why we think you'll be excited to learn that Redmond is replacing both products with newly designed (and enhanced!) versions. The Xbox 360 Wireless Headset with Bluetooth will be available in "early November 2011" worldwide for $60, a $10 premium over the existing headset. In exchange for that $10, you'll get Bluetooth support, so you can use the headset with other devices, like cell phones and your PlayStation 3. It still connects to the Xbox 360 "through the console's standard radio frequencies," so it remains to be seen if audio quality will remain a problem.<br />
<br />
Also available in early November is the new Xbox 360 Media Remote, for $20. While it doesn't offer a ton of improvements over the original, outside of the shiny new look, there is one notable addition: "Live TV, if provided on the Xbox 360 by your TV service provider, can also be controlled with the Xbox 360 Media Remote." While the original Xbox Media Remote also had a "Live TV" button, it accessed the console's Windows Media Center extender functionality; notably, the entire Media Center button has been removed. More likely, this button provides instant access to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/06/xbox-live-launching-streaming-television-service-this-fall/">still-mysterious live TV service</a> announced at E3. We've asked Microsoft to clarify. <br />
<br />
For now, soak in the pictures in the gallery below, and watch Major Nelson show off the headset in the video past the break.<br />

	<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/turtle-beachs-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter-hands-on-or-one/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/turtle-beach-bluetooth-puck-06_530x355.jpg" style="width: 530px; height: 355px; " /></a></div>
Over five years ago, I wrote <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/06/wireless-360-headset-using-bluetooth/">a post on this very website</a> about one enterprising Xbox 360 owner who velcroed a Jabra A210 Bluetooth adapter to the back of his controller, thereby freeing him from the tyranny of a wired headset. Back then, in the early days of the Xbox 360, some months before Microsoft introduced its own (terrible) wireless headset and before the PS3 was released with built-in Bluetooth headset support, this hack seemed all but guaranteed to make it mainstream. Of course, it hasn't.<br />
<br />
Now, over five years later, when the people at Turtle Beach tell me they have something they're pretty sure I'm going to like, I make my way to their E3 booth in the very last hours of the last day of the show and they hand over one of eight prototype Xbox 360 Bluetooth Chat Adapters.<br />
<br />
Included as part of its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/turtle-beachs-xp500-headset-brings-totally-wireless-7-1-to-the/">new XP500 headset</a> - an Xbox-ification of last year's excellent PS3-flavored PX5s - this Chat Adapter aims to keep the XP500s totally wireless. If you wanted to use the PX5's microphone with an Xbox 360, it meant tethering it to a controller with a cable. If you wanted to go completely wireless, it meant picking up one of Microsoft's notoriously shoddy wireless headsets, which use a proprietary radio connection, similar to the console's controllers, to connect to the Xbox.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/turtle-beach-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter/">Turtle Beach Xbox 360 Bluetooth Chat Adapter</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/turtle-beach-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter/#4277150"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/turtle-beach-bluetooth-puck-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/turtle-beach-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter/#4277151"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/turtle-beach-bluetooth-puck-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/turtle-beach-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter/#4277152"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/turtle-beach-bluetooth-puck-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/turtle-beach-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter/#4277153"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/turtle-beach-bluetooth-puck-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/turtle-beach-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter/#4277154"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/turtle-beach-bluetooth-puck-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/turtle-beachs-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter-hands-on-or-one/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Turtle Beach's Xbox 360 Bluetooth Chat Adapter hands-on (or: One of the best things I saw at E3)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/07/turtle-beachs-xbox-360-bluetooth-chat-adapter-hands-on-or-one/">Turtle Beach's Xbox 360 Bluetooth Chat Adapter hands-on (or: One of the best things I saw at E3)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Jul 2011 08:00:00 EST. Sony has announced a new version of its latest <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/08/sony-to-release-smaller-sleeker-official-ps3-bluetooth-headset/">Bluetooth headset</a>, which is identical to the last release except for its "urban camo" color scheme.<br />

It'll be available in GameStop stores for $49.99 starting April 19, allowing you to pick up a more militaristic accessory to go with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/27/socom-4-is-so-coming-on-april-19th-gamestop-gets-exclusive-map/">SOCOM 4</a>. But, of course, that would have been exceedingly silly.<br />
<br />
Instead, the typing tutor title will ship with a Bluetooth keyboard that connects to the DS through the Bluetooth-equipped game cartridge. This new peripheral isn't entirely ridiculous (maybe like 90 percent ridiculous) -- according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the prototype keyboard connects to iPhone and Android devices just fine, though Nintendo won't guarantee such compatibility. But if you've been asking for a Nintendo-designed Bluetooth keyboard, here you go!<br />
<br />
Would-be pok&eacute;mon typists will be able to <em>Battle &amp; Get</em> the game and keyboard (its exact size is unknown) in Japan this April. A release outside of Japan has not been announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/28/pokemon-typing-ds-comes-with-bluetooth-keyboard/">'Pokemon Typing DS' comes with Bluetooth keyboard</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Jan 2011 16:00:00 EST. So, you haven't invested in a voice chat solution for your PS3, but you want to have some amount of efficacy while playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-black-ops"><em>Black Ops</em></a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mag"><em>MAG</em></a> or one of the other multiplayer-centric titles on the platform? It sounds like you may want to check out the new, <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/11/08/new-bluetooth-headset-available-soon-for-ps3/">Sony-approved Bluetooth Headset</a>, which will arrive at the appropriate retailers later this month.<br />
<br />
The device, which will run you $49.99, has all the same features of its predecessor (charging dock/desktop mic, automatic syncing, a big shiny mute button) -- but it's now 30 percent smaller, and features stronger noise cancellation technology. Which is great, because we really hate hearing about your nearby best friend's hard day at work when we're, you know, <em>at war</em>.<br />

What you see above is the little brother (if you will) to the main ice cream cone-esque Move wand and the enabler of all things analog stick-controlled. <br />
<br />
As per <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/playstationrmove-motion-controller-delivers-a-whole-new-entertainment-experience-to-playstationr3-87288777.html">Sony's announcement</a> of Move, the sub-controller attachment is intended to "expand the game play options that PlayStation Move games can offer," and -- unlike Nintendo Wii's Nunchuk controller -- it will connect wirelessly to the console via Bluetooth. We'll have our hands-on with the PlayStation Move (and the sub-controller) for you later tonight. For now, ogle the high-res images in our gallery below.<br />

A Dutch auto insurance company called VrijVerzekerd recently thought outside the box of flatulence simulators and gem-swapping puzzle games to come up with <a href="http://www.apptism.com/apps/endless-racing-game">a truly brilliant iPhone offering</a>. Titled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/02/endless-racing-game-iphone-demo-video-isnt-endless-is-endles/"><em>Endless Racing Game</em></a> (clever!), the application allows two or more users to sync their iPhones up via Bluetooth, then watch as a car drives between their mobile devices as they generate a continuous racing course.<br /> <br /> If that explanation made little to no sense to you, check out the video demo after the jump. It's such a neat concept -- unfortunately, we don't think the iPhone has the install base needed to support that kind of multiplayer experience. Seriously, <em>nobody</em> has those things.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/endless-racing-game-demo-is-on-the-right-track/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Endless Racing Game demo is on the right track</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/02/endless-racing-game-demo-is-on-the-right-track/">Endless Racing Game demo is on the right track</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Nov 2009 22:00:00 EST. Since it's a Slot-1 cartridge (and thus fills the space normally occupied by DS games), the DS Bluetooth cartridge isn't going to be of much use in games, homebrew or otherwise, but it <em>does</em> allow the system to "scan its neighbourhood and establish connections to other Bluetooth devices." <br /><br />Using the API provided by the team, homebrew users should be able to write custom software to interface with any device that uses Bluetooth, from phones to GPS to ... PS3 controllers? The device sells for &euro;59, but the open-source-friendly team released full schematics so you can build your own.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.ohgizmo.com/2009/10/20/ds-brut-creators-release-their-open-source-nintendo-ds-bluetooth-adapter/">OhGizmo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/modders-create-ds-bluetooth-adapter/">Modders create DS Bluetooth adapter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 19:15:00 EST. <div align="left">Considering all of the technology Sony managed to cram into PS3, the omission of an IR receiver -- something what was standard on PS2 -- still boggles our minds. It's also forced hardcore home theater junkies to invest in extra IR-to-Bluetooth hardware in order to control their consoles using a single remote. Engadget <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/19/logitech-harmony-adapter-for-playstation-3-answers-a-million-pra/">has stumbled upon</a> an apparent answer to their prayers: a Bluetooth add-on from Logitech that will enable its Harmony remotes to work with PS3.<br /><br />The E-R0001 "PlayStation 3 Harmony Adapter" turned up on <a href="https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=489203&amp;fcc_id=%27JNZER0001%27">the FCC's website</a>, but has yet to be formally announced by Logitech. As such, there's no word on which Harmony remotes it will work with. We've contacted Logitech in hopes of finding that out -- along with other details -- and will update you when we hear back.<br /><br />[<strong>Update: </strong>Logitech has <a href="http://blog.logitech.com/2009/03/20/caught-were-going-to-provide-you-with-logitech-harmony-ps3-blu-ray-control/">updated its blog</a> with more details on the device from global gaming product marketing manager, Troy Petersen. What you see in the video above is Real Virtual Skater, a hack which utilizes the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a>'s guts in a small box attached to the bottom of a skateboard. As you can imagine, it lets you play as if you're actually skateboarding. The game the tech is being demonstrated on is <em>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater</em>. Our only concern is if anyone actually tried doing this in their living room, they'd break a few lamps. And a couple of tables. And the television.<br /><br />Head past the break for the video.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/22/real-virtual-skater-kickflip-and-nollie-with-the-wiimote/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Real Virtual Skater: kickflip and nollie with the Wiimote</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/22/real-virtual-skater-kickflip-and-nollie-with-the-wiimote/">Real Virtual Skater: kickflip and nollie with the Wiimote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Jan 2009 11:48:00 EST. It appears that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/official-ps3-headset-priced-at-5000-yen-in-japan/">speculation</a> has become truth: the official PS3 Bluetooth headset will be available in North America with a MSRP of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BR95PW/002-1575124-6034404?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B001BR95PW">$49.99</a>. For only $10 more, players will be able to get the <em>SOCOM Confrontation</em> bundle, which includes the headset and a copy of the upcoming shooter on Blu-ray disc. Although PS3 is compatible with most Bluetooth headsets, a new firmware update will enhance the experience when using the official headset. A new High-Quality (HQ) mode will use "advanced wireless technologies and the Headset's dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with the PS3 system."<br /><br />Sony is promising future titles will support HQ mode. For example, future games may have voice animation where the in-game character will mimic your speech. Proximity chat will offer voice playback in full surround sound, to match the sound effects featured in the game.<br /><br />The $50 headset will also be compatible with most cell phones. In addition, it will also work as a desktop microphone when docked with the supplied charging cradle. However, note that HQ mode is only available on the PS3, for titles that support HQ mode.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/confirmed-bluetooth-headset-will-be-50-will-require-firmware/">Confirmed: Bluetooth headset will be $50, will require firmware update</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 19:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/09/03/official-bluetooth-headset-for-the-playstation-3/">PlayStation Blog</a> has listed some details for North America about the new PS3 headset available this fall. The peripheral will be available in the $60 <em>SOCOM: Confrontation</em> bundle, or as a standalone peripheral for $50, similar to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/official-ps3-headset-minus-socom-priced-in-japan/">price in Japan</a>. Some features of the headset include:<br />
<ul>
    <li>"High-Quality" mode with use on PS3, offering noise cancellation and a better chat quality on the console.</li>
    <li>The quality of the headset will allegedly allow for more accurate commands of AI-controlled squad mates in <em>Confrontation</em>. There will also be "voice animation" where the player's avatar will "mimic" them during voice chat.</li>
    <li>There will be an in-game status indicator exclusive to the headset. It will display connection status, battery charge, speaker volume and mute status.</li>
    <li>Cradling the set back on the dock will turn it into a "desktop microphone" while charging.</li>
</ul>
So, what say the headset purchasing vox populi? Is <em>SOCOM</em> worth spending an extra $10 for your fancy new Bluetooth PS3 headset?

The standalone version of the official PS3 headset has been given a price of &yen;5000 ($46) on <a href="http://www.jp.playstation.com/info/release/nr_20080902_ps3headset.html">PlayStation.com in Japan</a>. The headset, which will also be packaged in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/socom-confrontation-priced-digital-retail-and-headset-bundle/">$60 <em>SOCOM Confrontation</em> bundle</a>, will also be released as a <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/08/16/ask-ps3-fanboy-resurrection-edition-volume-05/">standalone product in North America</a>. We're expecting official details about the standalone headset's price and release date very soon.<br />
<br />
Depending on the headset's price in North America, it could become Sony's answer to <em>Wii Play</em>. If the earpiece's standalone price ends up being equivalent to the price in Japan, for $10-15 more it's probably worth just getting the <em>SOCOM</em> bundle (if you have even the slightest interest in the series). If the headset is $40 or less, the $20 difference sounds like it could be used to finance some other product in the glut of this holiday season.<br />

<br />At its Leipzig Games Convention press conference today, Sony unveiled a wireless keypad peripheral that attaches to the top of the PlayStation 3 controller (presumably into the mini-USB port). The keypad also features a "touchpad mode" for mouse input. Pricing was not revealed, but the device will be released in 8 different languages.<br /> <br />It's worth noting that MadCatz released an attachable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/sony-gets-its-own-gamepad-keyboard-care-of-madcatz/">thumbpad</a> for PS3 in April 2007.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Added official keypad images (see gallery below). Does this thing double as a <a href="http://gyazo.com/3d5794fd5bc045fd1899ac76937d3f48.png">codpiece</a>?<br /><br /><a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/08/20/live-from-leipzig-north-american-hardware-announcements/">PlayStation.Blog</a> clarifies that the Wireless Kepad includes a mode that turns the key area into a touchpad, allowing users to control an on-screen cursor with their fingertips, tapping to activate a link. The keypad also features two short-cut buttons, enabling quick access to the XMB's "Friends" icon and the "Message Box." The pad also can be paired with other Bluetooth devices (e.g., a smart phone) and will be released in late November.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ps3-wireless-keypad/">PS3 Wireless Keypad</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ps3-wireless-keypad/#988560"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/ps3-keypad-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ps3-wireless-keypad/#988559"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/ps3-keypad-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/gc-2008-ps3-wireless-keypad-with-mouse-input/">GC 2008: PS3 wireless keypad with mouse input [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Aug 2008 11:40:00 EST. <em><br />SOCOM Confrontation's</em> retail release will include a Bluetooth headset, Sony <a href="http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/27/socom-headset-officially-revealed/">reconfirmed</a> today -- this time with pictures. While similar to the Jabra headset packaged <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/warhawk-back-on-blu-ray-with-beta-and-bluetooth-headset/">inside</a> <em>Warhawk's</em> box (and later <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/01/sony-to-release-39-99-retail-warhawk-this-month/">removed</a>)<em>, SOCOM</em>'s offering actually appears to be well-designed and, in fact, PlayStation-branded. Features include a prominent Mute button, USB charging cradle, and extended battery life. Sony has neither finalized the design nor priced a standalone model, but the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/socom-confrontation/"><em>SOCOM</em></a> bundle is <em>rumored</em> to fetch $80. <br />

The Blu-ray retail version of <em>SOCOM Confrontation</em> will include a Bluetooth headset. However, expect something much classier than the one included in the <em>Warhawk</em> bundle so long ago. This one is made specifically with gaming in mind -- and as such, earns the official PlayStation branding. The headset, which will also be available seperately from the game, is designed for long use and even includes a much-needed Mute button, a feature uncommon to most Bluetooth headsets. The device will also include a USB cradle, so that it can be charged via the PS3.<br /><br />While neither the design and price have been completely finalized, Sony plans on pricing this quite competitively. From the looks of its quality, we believe Sony will charge more than what they did for <em>Warhawk</em>.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/27/socom-headset-officially-revealed/">SOCOM headset officially revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jun 2008 12:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Read on if you like getting your heart warmed.<br /><br />The video embedded above shows Digital Wheel Art in action, a process that uses the Wiimote's bluetooth capabilities to translate art onto a screen. YoungHyun Chung developed the project after interacting with children suffering from cerebral palsy, as they lack the ability to express themselves artistically. <br /><br />Digital Wheel Art is not only a means of self-expression, though; it also provides art therapy for people suffering from disabilities. Using <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/wii-fanboy-interview-johnny-lee/">Johnny Lee's</a> whiteboard ideas as a starting point, Chung managed to create a painting program that traces the path of the Wiimote. The Wiimote can thereby be attached to a wheelchair, allowing disabled people to paint digitally with simple movements. To change colors, the user only has to tilt his or her head.<br /><br />We're certainly impressed by Chung's efforts, and we're glad to see video game technology being use to help others. Kudos to you, Mr. Chung.</div>

<p>We were originally excited about the official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/heres-a-better-look-at-mgs4s-bluetooth-headset/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em> headset</a>. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though the headset is worth the money. <a href="http://www.gadgetmadness.com/archives/20080606-metal_gear_soild_4_mgs4_bluetooth_headset_review.php">Gadget Madness</a> has posted an incredibly helpful video review of the device, and it highlights the rather poor audio quality produced by the device. The recordings are very fuzzy, to the point where words blur and become indecipherable. Yikes! While this headset may not do the trick, we're confident that Sony's official <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/socom-confrontation-to-include-bluetooth-headset/"><em>SOCOM</em> headset</a> will blow away the competition in both quality and value.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/metal-gear-solid-4-bluetooth-headset-gets-reviewed/">Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset gets reviewed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 23:00:00 EST. <p>Unlike most people, when I brought <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wiifit"><em>Wii Fit</em></a> home for the first time, I didn't head straight to my Wii and slide the disc in to play. Instead, I tore apart the packaging to get at the Balance Board, which I then attempted to "hook up" to my computer. It took a while and a <a href="http://www.wiili.org/forum/%2A-autoconnection-now-possible-with-widcomm-broadcom-%2A-t3920.html" target="_blank">change</a> in my method of operating, but I eventually got the thing connected and working in GlovePIE. It was at that point I started realizing what the Balance Board was really capable of, and this week I'll be sharing with you a few things I've learned about this new peripheral, so that you can start scripting for it and letting your imagination run wild.<br /></p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/revolutionary-balance-and-options/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: Balance and Options</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/revolutionary-balance-and-options/">Revolutionary: Balance and Options</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 19:34:00 EST. A few months ago, we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/rumor-socom-confrontation-bundle-includes-new-bluetooth-headset/">reported</a> that <em>SOCOM Confrontation</em> will release in retail stores with a brand new Bluetooth headset for $60 -- it's a similar package to the one crafted for <em>Warhawk</em>, but this new headset will be officially PlayStation-branded. An e-mail about an upcoming <em>SOCOM</em> media event made quick mention of the device, confirming its existence, but offered no new details. We hope to get some pictures and some ears-on time with the new headset later this month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/03/socom-confrontation-to-include-bluetooth-headset/">SOCOM Confrontation to include Bluetooth headset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jun 2008 13:30:00 EST. While we've seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/11/friday-video-nunchuk-camera-hack/">a nunchuk control a robotic camera</a> and the U.S. government's experimental <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/new-weapon-against-bomb-threats-waggle/http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/new-weapon-against-bomb-threats-waggle/">Packbot</a>, we've yet to see anything as sophisticated as this. With the video being past the post break (sorry, but it autoplays and we can't be having that on the main page), we'll save the narrative introduction of describing what this thing is and why it does what it does so well. Just know this: <span style="font-style: italic;">it's pretty awesome</span>.<br /><br />Cruise past the post break and check out this Wiimote-controlled robotic arm and see for yourself.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/robotic-arm-bends-to-the-will-of-the-wiimote/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Robotic arm bends to the will of the Wiimote</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/robotic-arm-bends-to-the-will-of-the-wiimote/">Robotic arm bends to the will of the Wiimote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 May 2008 16:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/metal-gear-solid-4-gets-bluetooth-headset/">last time</a> we saw this stylish <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mgs4/"><em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em></a> headset we were only treated to a drawing of what the product would look like. It wasn't the actual thing. The picture above, however, is a shot of the real piece of equipment. Isn't it beautiful? Don't you just want one? We know we do.<br /><br />The headset is a Bluetooth 2.0 device and will work with both the PS3 and mobile phones. The headset is priced at $59.99 in North America and should be available alongside the launch of <span style="font-style: italic;">MGS4</span> on June 12. If you want to see more pics of the headset and its carrying case, head on <a href="http://uk.gear.ign.com/articles/873/873980p1.html">over here</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/15/pelican-metal-gear-solid-4-bluetooth-headset-gets-photographed/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/heres-a-better-look-at-mgs4s-bluetooth-headset/">Here's a better look at MGS4's Bluetooth headset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 13:30:00 EST. Getting us all one step closer to our very own direct Codec link with the Colonel, comes this <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/MGS4/">Metal Gear Solid 4</a></em>-styled Bluetooth headset for, well ... ostensibly for the PS3 but - seeing as how this is a Bluetooth headset - you could use it with your regular old cellphone. You and Otacon can talk about love on the battlefield for up to eight hours from up to 30 feet away from your PS3.<br /><br />This headset should be in stores just in time for the game's release on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/28/metal-gear-solid-4-coming-june-12-confirms-konami/">June 12</a> and - considering how similar it looks to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Headset - it should come as little surprise that it will carry the same $59.99 pricetag. To <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180825/quotes">paraphrase</a> the great Solid Snake, "we don't believe in coincidences."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/14/metal-gear-solid-4-gets-its-own-bluetooth-headset/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/see-this-metal-gear-solid-4-bluetooth-headset-snake-snake-sna/">See this Metal Gear Solid 4 Bluetooth headset, Snake. Looks like a <em>Metal Gear Solid 4</em>-branded Bluetooth headset is about to come out, just in time for the release of the game. For a MSRP of $60, this gray over-the-ear headset will allow you to trashtalk opponents in <em>Metal Gear Online</em>. The device has 8 hours of talktime, a 30 foot range, and comes with a carrying case. Obviously, it'll work for all PS3 games, not just <em>MGS4</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://digg.com/playstation/Official_MGS4_Bluetooth_Headset_Confirmed">Digg</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/metal-gear-solid-4-gets-bluetooth-headset/">Metal Gear Solid 4 gets Bluetooth headset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Apr 2008 12:45:00 EST. If you love watching Blu-ray movies on your PS3 but haven't picked up the official bluetooth remote, this could only mean one thing: having one too many remotes annoys you. There is, however, a solution to your cluttered coffee table woes, and it comes in the form of <a href="http://ir2bt.com/">IR2BT</a>. This little palm-sized device allows a universal remote's infrared signal to be converted into bluetooth, which is recognized by the PS3. Having less remotes means less time switching between them; this is good for those who just want one remote to rule them all. <br /><br />The device promises to transmit "all 51 Sony Blu-ray remote codes including the PS button for Power On / Off." It operates off two AA batteries, or a mini-USB connector. The device will set you back $55. That's pretty expensive as opposed to just getting the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PlayStation-Blu-ray-Disc-Remote/dp/B000M17AVO/ref=tag_tdp_sv_edpp_t">official remote</a>. We guess it's really just a matter of space over money. Which is more important to you?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/28/ir2bt-infrared-to-bluetooth-converter-now-on-sale-ps3-owners-re/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/28/ir2bt-allows-infrared-remotes-to-communicate-with-ps3/">IR2BT allows infrared remotes to communicate with PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 28 Mar 2008 18:30:00 EST. A supposedly leaked PowerPoint presentation revealed a new official Bluetooth headset for PS3. Set to launch in July/August, the headset would retail for $50 individually. More exciting, however, is <em>SOCOM Confrontation</em> bundle that's mentioned: both the game and headset would hit retail for $60.<br /><br />The design of this rumored headset is an improvement over the one offered with <em>Warhawk</em>. However, don't get your hopes up quite yet. When asked for comment, a SCEA representative told us that "we have currently made no announcements for a new PS3 headset so any information is speculation and rumor."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/11/rumor-socom-confrontation-bundle-includes-new-bluetooth-headset/">Rumor: SOCOM Confrontation bundle includes new Bluetooth headset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Mar 2008 11:00:00 EST. Do you really need to use a Bluetooth headset on your PSP? Well, a complicated hack created by N3M3515 (aka Shane-O-Max) will let you do exactly that. The <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Bluetooth-PSPPS2-Headset-Mod/">instructables</a> page will give you every step needed for such a complicated surgery. Yes, we're impressed by the hacker's clever ingenuity. However, the final product makes us question if its even worth it ...<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/16/psp-ps2-hacked-to-support-bluetooth-headsets/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/17/bluetooth-hack-doesnt-save-time-or-space/">Bluetooth hack doesn't save time or space</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jan 2008 10:15:00 EST. <br />The idea of using the humble Wiimote to create <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/music/">music</a> seems to have really fired the imagination of the hacking community recently. <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">DJing</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/09/is-wiijing-the-new-hot-fad/">WiiJing</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/friday-video-wii-play-drums-the-easy-way/">drumming</a> are already both possible with the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZUv9ThvPNc">waffly versatile</a> controller and a bit of know-how, and now those of you who lack the funds for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=guitar+hero+III&amp;sort=date"><span style="font-style: italic;">Guitar Hero III</span></a> can get your virtual shred on for free.<br /><br />Hacker Evan, maker of the Wiimote drum sampler we linked to exactly one paragraph ago, has developed software that allows users to play air guitar, simply by "strumming" the Remote while holding down the d-pad to alternate between chords, or the B button to toggle between major and minor chords. As Evan points out, this has a similar feel to <span style="font-style: italic;">Jam Sessions</span> on the Nintendo DS, which is far from a bad thing if you ask <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/29/ds-fanboy-review-jam-sessions/">us</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Evan!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/26/new-wiimote-hack-for-the-air-guitarist-in-all-of-us/">New Wiimote hack for the air guitarist in all of us</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Nov 2007 12:45:00 EST. There's a bit of somewhat disappointing news that has slipped out about the PlayStation 3's version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitarhero"><em>Guitar Hero III</em></a> - the game will not be completely wireless.<br /><br />Although, the game's guitar controller will still be wireless, gamers will have to plug in a guitar pick-shaped USB dongle to get it to work. Apparently, the controller doesn't "work seamlessly with [the] PS3's built-in Bluetooth," according to <a href="http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/10/pics-guitar-her.html">Wired</a>. On the brighter side, the PS3 guitar will have the controller's symbols marked above the buttons to ease navigation throughout the game.<br /><br />We're not sure why Neversoft couldn't utilize the PS3's Bluetooth technology, but this shouldn't be a deal breaker to anyone. And since the game will only support two players locally anyway, gamers should have no worries about picking up the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/40GB/">40GB PS3</a> with two USB ports.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/05/guitar-hero-iii-not-so-wireless/">Guitar Hero III not so wireless</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Oct 2007 15:15:00 EST. <p><em>Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/revolutionary/">REVOLUTIONARY</a>, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities. </em><br /></p>
<p>Are you getting tired of "Wii gimmicks?" Has waggling lost its charm? Has the Wii's cheese become old and moldy and sent you looking for <a target="_blank" href="http://cheeseisoldandmoldy.ytmnd.com/">the bathroom</a>? And are you tired of seeing everyday words being pwiif ... *ahem* - prefixed with "Wii?" If the answer to all of those questions is a resounding "Heck no!" then read on as we <em>wiicap</em> Revolutionaries past, and <em>wiivisit</em> the projects and hobbies previously featured and see how they've progressed since last we discussed them.</p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/revolutionary-progress-wiiport-part-1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: Progress Wiiport, Part 1</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/revolutionary-progress-wiiport-part-1/">Revolutionary: Progress Wiiport, Part 1</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Sep 2007 12:45:00 EST. <p>If we could, we'd cut down on all the remotes we have lying around our family room and operate everything with our Wii Remote -- televisions, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/20/play-dvds-in-your-wii-and-minidvds-in-your-wee/">DVD players</a>, our downward-spiraling lives, etc. -- but so far, the white wand hasn't been too useful outside of playing video games. <br /><br />Mike Anderson's <em>BlueTunes</em> application adds an extra feature to the remote, allowing you to mess with the controls on media players like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/itunes">iTunes</a>, Winamp, and Windows Media Player. Once you've installed the program on your computer and detected the remote as a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bluetooth">bluetooth</a> device, you'll be able to execute a number of playback functions by either pushing the controller's buttons or waving it around.<br /><br />Unfortunately, if you're like us and have a playlist filled with nothing but Bel Biv Devoe's "<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=TdF2zqs1bxQ">Poison</a>," using an application like <em>BlueTunes</em> to change tracks wouldn't make much sense. Really, there's no reason why you should ever skip "Poison," unless, of course, you want to listen to <em>more</em> "Poison."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://wii-news.dcemu.co.uk/bluetunes-72759.html">DCEmu</a>]</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/01/wii-remote-itunes-waggle-tunes/">Wii remote + iTunes = Waggle Tunes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 01 Sep 2007 14:00:00 EST. An adventurous and skillful modder has managed to turn a Wii remote into an Xbox 360 controller with middleware help from the PS2 control scheme -- it's as if all the console makers are working in harmony for this one hack. Try humming this to the tune of "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dem_Bones">Dem Bones</a>" (actually, don't, because we're not even going to try to fit the rhyme scheme):<br />
<ul>
    <li>The Xbox 360 is connected to the XFPS PS2 to 360 adapter</li>
    <li>... which is connected to a big black box Microcontroller "with custom firmware emulating a PS2 controller"</li>
    <li>... which is connected to a Samsung Q1 PC with custom Wii remote firmware</li>
    <li>... which is connected via Bluetooth to the Wii remote itself.</li>
</ul>
Full details of the process can be found <a href="http://obsiv.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!948789BF56FAF394!177.entry">here</a>. A video demonstration is embedded after the break that not only shows the control scheme work with <span style="font-style: italic;">Halo 2</span> but also the thought put into making it a comfortable and viable control scheme (such as anti-acceleration and smoothing algorithms).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/07/diyer-puts-the-wiimote-on-your-xbox-360/">Engadget</a>; thanks, <a href="http://chrisglein.blogspot.com/">Chris</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/07/playing-xbox-360-with-your-wii-remote/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Playing Xbox 360 with your Wii remote</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/07/playing-xbox-360-with-your-wii-remote/">Playing Xbox 360 with your Wii remote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 07 Aug 2007 17:25:00 EST. This week features a round-up of hacks that let you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/05/todays-hottest-game-video-wiimote-on-windows/">control your PC with the Wii Remote</a>. And we're not talking about playing <em>Minesweeper</em> and moving files around, you can play just about any game with this lethal combination.<br /><br />All you need is a compatible Bluetooth adapter, the free GlovePIE program, and some time to tweak and customize settings. REVOLUTIONARY spells the whole process out so even your grandmother could get her <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/07/todays-hottest-game-video-wiimote-control-half-life-2/"><em>Half-Life 2</em> fix, motion-sensitive style</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/how-to-control-a-pc-with-a-wii-remote/">How to control a PC with a Wii Remote</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 11:58:00 EST. Everyone likes to rock out from time to time ... after, of course, double-checking to make sure no one can see you. Or maybe that part's just us being <em>paranoid</em> about our air-drumming skills. <br /><br />This week's <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/ffv">featured video</a> allows you to live the dream in a simple fashion: download some software, pick up your Wii remote, and start building up your chops. Aside from distinguishing it from the<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn"> PlayStation Network</a> version of the game, the headset should prove handy if you're in a rush jump in and trash talk.<br /><br /><em>Warhawk</em> will also have a public beta starting on May 24th. You can sign up at the <a href="http://www.warhawk.com">official site</a>, quite possibly by the time you're reading this. We had a lot of fun with this one at Sony's Gamers Day, and it should be even better once they the beta opens and all the fresh meat starts pouring it.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warhawk/">Warhawk</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warhawk/#314348"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/warhawke302_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warhawk/#314349"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/warhawke305_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warhawk/#314350"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/warhawke306_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warhawk/#314351"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/warhawke303_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/warhawk/#314352"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/07/warhawke304_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/17/warhawk-back-on-blu-ray-with-beta-and-bluetooth-headset/">Warhawk back on Blu-ray, with beta and Bluetooth headset</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2007 03:01:00 EST. We'll mime the motions of manually unlocking a door while our friends guffaw at the absurdity of our adolescence. We'll all shake our heads at the joke our lives used to be.<br /><br />We have a long way to go before we can telepathically open doors, travel to distant star systems on a whim, or make out with holographic hussies in a holodeck, but a group of Japanese tinkerers have started taking the steps to get us there. Setting up a lock motor with a PC that accepts <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=bluetooth">bluetooth</a> commands, they've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/how-tos/">jury-rigged </a>a door to unlock when it picks up motion from a Wii remote. Futuristic!<br /><br />We can't imagine this as being very secure, so don't plan on guarding your important documents or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pokemon">Pokemon</a> cards with one of these <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/diy">DIY</a> locks.
