Yesterday, we reported that one of two Starbreeze games being developed for EA had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/starbreeze-confirms-one-ea-collaboration-is-kaput/">gone the way of the dodo</a>. Now, the <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2010/03/future-of-bourne-video-games-uncertain-as-ea-cancels-title.html">LA Times blog</a> reports that the canceled game is in fact the title based on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/02/bourne-is-born-again-at-ea/"><em>Bourne</em> franchise</a> -- and not the believed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/rumorang-riddick-dev-helming-new-syndicate-game/"><em>Syndicate</em></a> reboot, <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/ea-and-starbreeze-to-revisit-a-classic-franchise/"><em>Project RedLime</em></a>. <br />
<br />
This news doesn't eliminate the possibility for a new <em>Bourne</em> game sometime down the line, however. EA signed a ten-year deal with the Ludlum estate, and an EA spokesperson said, "EA and the Ludlum Estate are still discussing making a game based on the <em>Bourne</em> franchise."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/24/bourne-game-is-starbreezes-canceled-ea-project/">Report: Bourne game is Starbreeze's canceled EA project</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Mar 2010 09:08:00 EST. <em><br /></em>This week in Points&gt;Life we tackle the Matt Damon-less action shooter, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Bourne-Conspiracy/">The Bourne Conspiracy</a></em>. As the tabloids spun a web of rumors concerning a feud between Damon and the late night host, Kimmel's girlfriend <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=WLG3S5WzHig">Sarah Silverman appeared on the show and debuted a music video</a> admitting she was, in fact, having an affair with Damon. <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=j_pFTAY7MF8">Kimmel replied in kind</a>.<br /><br />Guillermo Rodriguez is the show's actual parking lot security guard, and often serves as a celebrity gossip reporter -- he <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=s91p5DD5aTA">even bumped Damon from a few celebrity interviews</a>, fueling the fake feud. In the above video, Kimmel reveals that <a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=JfpK2LArzXg">the guard-turned-gossiper managed to bump Damon from his own video game</a>: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/metareview-the-bourne-conspiracy-xbox-360-ps3/"><em>The Bourne Conspiracy</em></a>. Sure, it's not exactly accurate, as Damon was never slated to fill Bourne's digital shoes, but the resulting gameplay footage is hilarious nonetheless.<br /><br />[Thanks, Steve.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/08/jimmy-kimmel-previews-the-bourne-conspiracy-guillermo-edition/">Jimmy Kimmel previews The Bourne Conspiracy: Guillermo edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Jun 2008 19:00:00 EST. Despite our well-earned hesitancy about getting excited over a licensed game, we held out some hope for High Moon Studio's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=The%20Bourne%20Conspiracy">The Bourne Conspiracy</a></em>. Maybe it was the kinetic energy of the trailers, or the company's insistence that they were putting a lot of thought into the game. Either way, we were ready to be hurt. But now that we're getting some of the first reviews we can see that our hopes for an above average game have not been dashed. Huzzah!<br />

<div align="left">It's finally here kids. Yes, it's the granddaddy of all <a href="http://www.realultimatepower.net/">ninja</a> simulators, <em>Ninja Gaiden</em>. This particular entry in the series is somewhat anachronistically titled <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninja-gaiden-2"><em>Ninja Gaiden II</em></a>. We can tell you unreservedly (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/30/x3f-tv-x3f-impressions-ninja-gaiden-ii-demo/">and from experience)</a> that it is glorious in execution. It's also goriest in executions. Eviscerations abound as gamers take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa, the superest of all super ninjas. But wait, what's that? There are <em>more</em> games shipping this week <em>and</em> they don't all suck? Whoa. Imagine our surprise. Behold this week's list:<br />

Since we first saw the gameplay from <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Bourne-Conspiracy/">The Bourne Conspiracy</a></em>, we've held a secret hope that the game, despite its deficiency of Vitamin D(amon), would rise above the standard of mediocrity that has been set by so many licensed games before it. But today is the true test, as a hulking, 1.24 GB demo for the game has just arrived on Xbox Live Marketplace in Australia, New Zealand, India and North America (it's coming to Europe next week).<br /><br />So eager were we to pass the news along that we haven't given the demo a try yet. But we're anxiously awaiting word on it, so ... what's your verdict?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/bourne-conspiracy-demo-now-on-xbox-live/">Bourne Conspiracy demo now on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 May 2008 09:30:00 EST. <p>In case the <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33353.html?type=">above trailer</a> wasn't enough for you, you'll find <em>Bourne Conspiracy</em> screenshots galore in our gallery below. The game looks like it'll play similarly to <em>Uncharted</em> thanks to its run-and-gun, duck-and-cover, punch-in-the-gut kind of gameplay. Don't expect to be brutally massacring zombies, or hunt treasure while cracking sly remarks. You're just kicking some tail. Hopefully, the game will be able to successfully translate what made the original novels (of which the game is based on) so fun.<br /><br /></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/bourne-conspiracy-brings-uncharted-gameplay-to-extreme-levels/">Bourne Conspiracy brings Uncharted gameplay to extreme levels</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 17:30:00 EST. Now, thanks to the magic of the internets and a what a few weeks time can bring, we can confirm via <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=134646">Eurogamer</a> that the <em>Bourne </em>demo will be ready for download on Monday, May 19th. This video in particular shows off both the gunplay and melee combat of <em>The Bourne Conspiracy</em> and gives us some clues as to how it will all actually work. Thus far, Sierra has been keen to point out that the game would capture the brutal combat seen in the films, and what's on display in the video is definitely interesting. <br /><br />Looking at the video, it seems like most of the really brutal moves are initiated as reversals or counters to attacks from the enemy, triggering a brief cinematic attack from Bourne. Beyond that, it looks like the moves actually performed by the player are limited to a few basic punches. Of course, we won't know exactly how it works until we lay our hands on a controller and play it, so we'll reserve judgment until the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/bourne-conspiracy-demo-coming-in-may/">announced demo</a> arrives next month. In the meantime, give the video a look and share your thoughts in the comments.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/new-bourne-conspiracy-video-is-really-punchy/">New Bourne Conspiracy video is really punchy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Apr 2008 19:30:00 EST. Possibly weeks before its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/the-bourne-conspiracy-snaps-bones-on-june-3/">June 3rd release</a>. "Are you Mr. Stern, by chance?" A built man in a black suit asked, standing in front of a black Cadillac. His black sunglasses evenly split <span style="font-style: italic;">M.I.B.</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">The Matrix</span>.<br /><br />I'd just stumbled into the daylight after an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/joystiq-impressions-fallout-3-360-pc-ps3/">afternoon meeting</a> near San Francisco's Union Square. I'd been standing on the sidewalk for a moment, shifting my attention between my notebook, phone, and this man. I'd stolen glances like I was meeting a blind date, wondering if this was my contact but not quite approaching him<br /><br />I confirmed my identity, and he motioned me over to the sedan. "I'll be taking you to the drop zone," he said and then was silent.<br /><br />A few weeks earlier, FedEx dropped off an unmarked, prepaid mobile phone. The carbon-copy shipping slip gave no origin address or FedEx account number. I called the delivery company and asked for more details, and all they could dig up was the location the phone was picked up. Some place called "Vivendi University" according to the agent. And so the marketing stunt began.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy-event/">The Bourne Conspiracy Event</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy-event/#749198"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/bourne_event_sf18_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy-event/#749197"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/bourne_event_sf16_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy-event/#749196"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/bourne_event_sf19_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy-event/#749195"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/bourne_event_sf15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy-event/#749194"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/bourne_event_sf21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/13/the-things-we-do-to-get-you-schwag-bourne-conspiracy-strings-us/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The things we do to get you swag: Bourne Conspiracy strings us along</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/13/the-things-we-do-to-get-you-schwag-bourne-conspiracy-strings-us/">The things we do to get you swag: Bourne Conspiracy strings us along</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 13 Apr 2008 18:40:00 EST. Sierra announced today that the upcoming book and film adaptation <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bourne-conspiracy"><em>The Bourne Conspiracy</em></a> will release on June 3 in North America. As discussed here before, the game features a mixture of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/bourne-conspiracy-trailer-breaks-limbs/">hand-to-hand</a> combat as well as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/bourne-footage-looks-awfully-familiar/">run-and-gun</a> action. We're sure gamers are interested in trying out the game or, as As Sierra's Al Simone puts it, "experience the dangerously exciting aura and frenetic pace inherent in the Bourne franchise." We'll see about that.<br /><br />It's worth noting that <em>Bourne</em> will be making his video game debut on the same day as Microsoft's flagship action, (Game of the Year) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninja-gaiden-ii"><em>Ninja Gaiden II</em></a>. So, demon slaying super ninja or elbow cracking super spy? Decisions, decisions ....<br /><br />[Via Press Release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/the-bourne-conspiracy-snaps-bones-on-june-3/">The Bourne Conspiracy snaps bones on June 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Apr 2008 14:00:00 EST. We learned this morning that we'll figure out if we picked a winner or got <em>bourned</em> again when the game drops on June 3.<br /><br />We're happy that we're not going to have to wait to much longer, but it's also nice to see a major release in the heart of the summer. Anyone that has played a third person shooter in the last several years should be relatively familiar with the action that's present in this trailer. Dark environments: check. Cover system: check. A metal crate deflecting a helicopter's high caliber gunfire: check. One thing that's worth noting, however, is that the video shows no user interface whatsoever. There is no ammo gauge, no aiming reticle, no life meter, nothing. Whether this is indicative of the actual game or an example of developers removing the UI for the sake of a trailer, we'll have to wait and see (for what it's worth, none of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-bourne-conspiracy/674298/">screenshots</a> released thus far include a UI either).<br /><br />Now, if we can just get a trailer devoted to some Bourne-tastic, arm-breaking hand-to-hand combat, we'll be set.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/26/bourne-footage-looks-awfully-familiar/">Bourne footage looks awfully familiar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 26 Mar 2008 16:45:00 EST. Their VP, Paul O'Connor, spoke to <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=17875">Gamasutra</a> about PS3 and how the Unreal Engine was working out for them on the platform. He admitted: "We needed a lot of support on Unreal to make it run on the PlayStation 3. We got caught in the same crunch as everybody else when [Epic] finalized <em>Gears Of War</em>, so that definitely slowed down the PS3 support at the time."<br /><br />It's not all bad news, as he goes on to praise what the team has managed to do with the PS3 and says the game is about ready to go through the pipeline. High Moon had to use a lot of their own toolset, though, saying while the Unreal Engine 3 is a great toolset, for the PS3, they needed to bring out their own stuff as well. This problem has been plaguing many Unreal developers, and is at the root of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/silicon-knights-sues-epic-over-unreal-engine-3-inadequacies/">lawsuit</a> brought on by <em>Too Human</em> developer, Silicon Knights.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/bourne-conspiracy-devs-lament-ps3s-unreal-engine-problems/">Bourne Conspiracy devs lament PS3's Unreal Engine problems</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Mar 2008 19:00:00 EST. There is however one concern, if you watch the trailer it appears that a portion of the gameplay will in the form of timed-button sequences (like <em>Spider-man 3's</em> cineratives). While we can't say for sure, the explanation of the <em>Escape and Evade</em> system makes us think that will be the approach the game will take. McGuire told CVG that "in retrospect I wish Microsoft had made the choice to have [mandatory] hard drives like Sony did with the PS3." McGuire further went on to explain the development advantages of having a HDD saying that "if you have a hard drive, the whole game loads faster. Obviously you'll be facing a short install time, but the developer benefits from it and you definitely benefit from it as a player." Take that Microsoft!<br /><br />On second analysis, it's entirely possible that Microsoft could make HDDs mandatory in all Xbox 360 consoles by axing the Arcade and taking out another <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/20/xbox-loses-1-9-billion-failures-at-fault/">$1.9 billion hit</a> to ship 20GB HDDs to Core and Arcade owners. Makes sense to us.

Maybe we should know better then to anticipate a licensed product, but the mix of <em>24: The Game</em> action meets <em>Uncharted: Drake's Fortune</em> combat has us suspiciously craving an immediate hands-on with the upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 game. While dreaming of modern-day ninja throwing a baddie from a moving airplane we stumbled to the wallpaper section of High Moon Studio's official website where one image was titled <em>Xbox 360 Cover Art</em>. We're <em>trying</em>, but it's hard, because what's here, from the gravelly voice of Bourne to the combat, looks really, really cool.<br /><br />But maybe it's OK to get our hopes up a bit. Players take on the role of Jason Bourne, a super soldier of sorts who is talented in espionage and the breaking of wrists, elbows, knees, and whatever other bones you care to place in front of him. It's hard to tell how much -- if any -- of the footage contained in the trailer is actual gameplay, but parts appear to be recorded within the game engine, and it's looking very nice indeed. With <em>The Bourne Conspiracy</em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/conviction"><em>Splinter Cell Conviction</em></a> both releasing this year, it will be interesting to see how they fare against each other.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/bourne-conspiracy-trailer-breaks-limbs/">Bourne Conspiracy trailer breaks limbs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jan 2008 13:30:00 EST.
