And when we're talking games, we try not to let our occasional bouts of fanboy excitement shine through. Thankfully for us, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/24/disney-making-animated-video-game-movie-wreck-it-ralph/"><em>Wreck-It Ralph</em></a> is a Disney film featuring video games, so we can <em>totally geek out</em> over the latest, nostalgia-laced trailer.<br /><br />Beyond looking like a pretty sweet movie, <em>Wreck-It Ralph</em> is rife with cameos from gaming's most famous villains - everyone from M. Bison to "zombie" to Nintendo's own Bowser. And yes, we're pretty sure the crossover synergy between Disney and Nintendo here is gonna result in a cosmic explosion of money.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/08/disneys-wreck-it-ralph-trailer-features-an-all-star-cast-of-gam/">Disney's Wreck-It Ralph trailer features an all-star cast of gaming's baddest villains</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Jun 2012 16:30:00 EST. It's been so long since we last got to try our hand at timing-centric, turn-based combat in the Mushroom Kingdom and, well, we <em>really</em> enjoyed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/07/hands-on-mario-and-luigi-bowsers-inside-story/#continued">our time with the game at E3</a>. The newest trailer shows off a good deal of what we described from E3, with the ill-fated plumbers working with Bowser from the inside to solve problems in the outside world. Now all we need is a bit more of a solid release date than "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/new-mario-and-luigi-rpg-titled-bowsers-inside-story-coming-in-fa/">this fall</a>" -- how about it, Nintendo?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/">Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179391"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179392"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179393"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179394"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3-1/#2179395"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/mario_and_luigi_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/31/new-mario-and-luigi-bowsers-inside-story-trailer-from-the-inside/">New Mario &amp; Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story trailer from the inside, out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 31 Jul 2009 20:15:00 EST. Excellently, Bowser (who is controlled with X and Y, as opposed to A and B) has a special attack that sees a small army of Goombas charge enemies.<br /><br />These delightful details featured in the latest <em>Nintendo Power</em>, along with a basic synopsis of the story. Apparently, Mario and Luigi are searching for a cure to a disease that has swept through the Mushroom Kingdom, causing its denizens to balloon in size -- which explains those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3/1071841/">obese Toads</a>.<br /><br />Don't forget to check out the ten new screens we've added to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mario-and-luigi-3/1289573/">gallery</a>, and make some time to <em>coo</em> at the stylish <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/images/B001HN6G34/sr=8-1/qid=1231867070/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&amp;n=637394&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1231867070&amp;sr=8-1">Japanese boxart</a>!<br /><br /><a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?s=6c92cb928ac7a62b5382ea382da04efb&amp;p=14294161&amp;postcount=1">Source</a>: <em>Nintendo Power</em> details<br /><a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E4%BB%BB%E5%A4%A9%E5%A0%82-13306221-%E3%83%9E%E3%83%AA%E3%82%AA-%E3%83%AB%E3%82%A4%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B8RPG3/dp/B001HN6G34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1231867070&amp;sr=8-1">Source</a>: Screens<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/bowser-gets-starring-role-in-mario-and-luigi/">Bowser gets starring role in Mario &amp; Luigi 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 15:30:00 EST. Wahey! Yeah, we know that Japan (<em>generally</em> speaking) gets the most excellent items when compared to elsewhere, but listen here, bub: it's <em>free stuff</em>. We're not about to complain, and nor should you (if you want to feel sorry for somebody, Australia's Club Nintendo scheme has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/australian-club-nintendo-still-not-functional/">gone AWOL</a>, and check out South Africa's piss-poor <a href="http://www.nintendo.co.za/NOE/en_ZA/club_nintendo/stars_catalogue_5823.html">Stars Catalogue</a>).<br /><br />Anyway, as these are happy times for North Americans, we thought we'd reflect on some of the <em>bestest</em> Club Nintendo gifts and trinkets from both Japan and Europe to date -- some of which <em>could </em>end up in the U.S.! Hit the gray button to start DS Fanboy's whirlwind Club Nintendo Tour of Wonders!<br /><br />

<div align="left">The workweek is nearly over, which means it's time again to rehash the delightful, if discontinuous, mythology of the Mushroom Kingdom and its many colorful characters. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/12/its-a-mario-world-mini-boss-mayhem/">Last week</a> we had you grinding the gears of mini-boss semantics while ogling the usual gallery-candy, and today we want to continue in a similar vein. But let's up the ante, shall we? Who are the <em>real</em> bosses Mario has battled? No more of this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/its-a-mario-world-mini-boss-mayhem/1034092/">egg-spitting mediocrity</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/its-a-mario-world-mini-boss-mayhem/1033149/">three-hit nonsense</a>. Half-assed baddies, step aside.<br /><br />The road has been long for Mario, and each of his victories have been marked with the defeat of a substantial villain, restoring order to various kingdoms and rescuing their fair and easily kidnapped damsels. The extended Koopa Troop family has long been a threat to <em>the 'stache</em>, but who are these other punitive powers that precede the credit screens? Let's take a gander at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/its-a-mario-world-final-bosses/1045035/">final bosses in a new gallery</a> rife with heavyweight evildoing.<br />

<p align="left"> <span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Mario_s_10_greatest_mini_bosses'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> Last week we prompted some rich scholarly debate about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/05/its-a-mario-world-koopa-kids/">Bowser's kids</a>, as literally <em>hundreds</em> of comments (precise statistics unverified) argued back and forth as to whether the Koopaling characters are worth a damn. Today we return to pose another question: What are mini-bosses, exactly? Are they, like, regular Koopas after chomping down a few <a href="http://www.mariowiki.com/Mini_Mushroom">mini-mushrooms</a>? Are they the less-popular bosses who have shrunken from our memories? What is so miniature about a mini-boss? Size? Reputation? </p>
<p align="left">Well, neither, really. A mini-boss might be defined as an antagonist too powerful to be categorized as a standard henchman, yet too weak to provoke any controller-throwing frustration. Much like their more difficult counterparts--area and final bosses--mini-bosses are usually faced in an enclosed, 1-on-1 setting, albeit with considerably less fanfare. With some exceptions, no trumpets sound as they enter, and no medals are award when they are defeated. Mini-bosses occupy a liminal position in villainy as the halfway hurdles of an overarching challenge. Mario has encountered dozens of these types, a few of which have continued their careers as playable characters in sports and party titles. But do you recall the most famous <strike>reindeer</strike> mini-bosses of all? We hope so, because we've stuffed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/its-a-mario-world-mini-boss-mayhem/1034098/">a piping hot new gallery</a> full of 'em.</p>

<div align="left">Lately we have found ourselves pondering the Koopa family lineage in all of its complexity. Bowser seems to have outdone himself in the procreation department, but no one seems to know who mothered his children. It seems likely that Princess Peach did at least some of the laboring, given the amount of time she has spent in captivity with Bowser, but <a href="http://www.mariowiki.com/Bowletta">Bowletta</a> or <a href="http://www.mariowiki.com/Kammy_Koopa">Kammy Koopa</a> could have just as easily nursed a Koopaling or two. Details of intimacy between King Koopa and females in the Mushroom Kingdom remain relatively obscured. Regardless, we know that at least 8 children were born to him and his anonymous bedmate(s), with dozens more probably carrying the Koopa genes.<br /><br />Of course, the Koopa kids first appeared in the famed <em>Super Mario Bros. 3</em>. After two subsequent SNES games they vanished for ten years (excluding games like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/virtually-overlooked-hotel-mario/">Hotel Mario</a></em>, which no one really played anyway) until resurfacing in 2003's Game Boy Advance RPG, <em>Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga</em>, albeit without any dialogue or consequence to the main plot. We are left wondering how they dropped from the radar so abrupty, and why they have recently been condensed into the new Koopaling on the block, Bowser Jr. While such questions might be attributed to <strike>marketing and sales</strike> the phases of the moon, we can still pay homage to the classic Koopa kids in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/its-a-mario-world-koopa-kids/1018859/">our new gallery</a>.<br />

<span style="float: left; margin-right: 10px; margin-top: 7px;"> <script> var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Mario_s_most_underrated_foes'; </script> <script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js"></script></span> In our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/its-a-mario-world-persistent-foes/">last issue</a>, we spent a lot of time rambling about the recurring foes you know and love (or hate) of <em>Mario</em> games. Popular baddies like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/persistent-foes/941097/">Goombas</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/persistent-foes/941106/">Piranhas </a>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/persistent-foes/941098/">Koopas </a>have carved out quite a place for themselves in the franchise, such that we've come to expect them anywhere we see Mario himself. Many of these regulars have become playable characters and allies in sports games and spin-offs, which calls into question their allegiances. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/30/bowsers-minions-vent-their-frustrations/">Some have even started to complain</a> about Bowser and his inadequate coordinating skills. Can you blame them?<br /><br />Shadowed by these persistent characters, though, are all of the enemies who never went on to become superstars in the latest, greatest Mario titles. All of the foes Mario dashed by without breaking stride, arms out and cape rippling in the wind. The unappreciated foes quickly tail-flicked and never thought of again. Let's give a little limelight to these underrated and overlooked enemies in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/marios-underrated-foes/959474/">our newest gallery</a>. Do you remember them? Of course you do...<br />

It isn't easy being one of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bowser">Bowser</a>'s minions. Aside from the constant defeat at the hands of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/its-a-mario-world">the Mario brothers</a>, apparently there are some severe restrictions each class of baddie must adhere to in their roles as Bowser's employees. It's a tough life, we imagine, and a job we would certainly not enjoy. They must get amazing health benefits, because, in all honesty, why would you put up with it over and over again?<br /><br />We've embedded the video past the break, due to some <strong>possibly-NSFW</strong> action. <br />We've seen enough clothing branded with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/781166/">1-up mushrooms</a> to last us several lifetimes (which is sort of ironic), but other items in lastactioncowboy's new line-up of Nintendo clothing feature characters that <em>haven't </em>been so drastically overused. We've not seen too many <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/781161/">Blooper hoodies</a>, for example, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/781171/">Bob-omb underwear</a> is a new one to us.<br /><br />Admittedly, probably none of this stuff is as effortlessly cool or obscure as those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/get-ready-for-amazing-sega-shirts/">Sega-themed t-shirts</a> from The King of Games, but then it's also not as horrendously pricey -- just $40 for a hoodie, or $18 per piece of underwear.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/">lastactioncowboy's Nintendo garments</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/#781174"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/lastactioncowboy_nintendo_garments_gjgfse_cg_0096_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Piranha plant underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" title="Piranha plant underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/#781173"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/lastactioncowboy_nintendo_garments_gjgfse_cg_0095_thumbnail.jpg" alt="1-up mushroom t-shirt from lastactioncowboy.com" title="1-up mushroom t-shirt from lastactioncowboy.com" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/#781172"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/lastactioncowboy_nintendo_garments_gjgfse_cg_0094_thumbnail.jpg" alt="NES controller underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" title="NES controller underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/#781171"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/lastactioncowboy_nintendo_garments_gjgfse_cg_0093_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Bob-omb underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" title="Bob-omb underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lastactioncowboys-nintendo-garments/#781170"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/lastactioncowboy_nintendo_garments_gjgfse_cg_0097_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Piranha plant underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" title="Piranha plant underwear from lastactioncowboy.com" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://thatgirlssite.com/?p=1393">That Girl's Site</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/if-youve-been-waiting-for-a-blooper-hoodie-todays-your-lucky/">If you've been waiting for a Blooper hoodie, today's your lucky day</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 May 2008 22:30:00 EST. Brawl</em>. Nintendo, the wonderful and kind souls they are, decided this crummy little blog was good enough to get a copy of the game along with the press. A single tear poured down my cheek, kind of like that recycling commercial. It was a magical moment.<br /><br />I then realized <em>I had to work</em> today and couldn't get my game on. As the day progressed and I tapped away at my keyboard, putting up news items and other stories that all 12 of you readers care about, the game sat there in front of my monitor, mocking me. It was almost like some kind of evil temptation, as I thought about just ducking away from my responsibilities to play. I then realized that it <em>is </em>my responsibility to play! I've got to review the damn thing, don't I?<br /><br />And when I heard that Joystiq's own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/first-impressions-super-smash-bros-brawl/">Kyle Orland got a copy of the game too</a>, I decided a few mutliplayer matches were in order. And in the interest of those who don't want anything spoiled for them, <span style="font-weight: bold;">stop reading here</span>. The rest of you can head past the break where the <span style="font-style: italic;">real</span> action is.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/06/wii-fanboy-takes-super-smash-bros-brawl-wi-fi-for-a-test-drive/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii Fanboy takes Super Smash Bros. It's like someone was reading our diary, reaching into our brain and sifting through the garbled mess of fanboyish dreams that we think about on a daily basis. It may be kind of violating to have someone so accurately recreate our inner-most desires, but it's a small price to pay for the minutes of joy we got out of the video above.<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong><br />

<br />We're lifting our spoiler barrier for today's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">dojo</a> update, simply because there's a <em>complete lack of stuff to spoil</em>. Bowser's special moves -- the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/654912/">Flying Slam</a> and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/654916/">Bowser Bomb</a> -- have long been available on his <a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/bowser.html">dojo character profile</a>.<br /><br />The former replaces Koopa Klaw from <em>Melee</em>, and sees Bowser grab his opponents (either on the ground or in mid-air) and slam them back down to earth, providing the victim doesn't <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/gallery/ssbb-gallery-three/654908/">reverse the move</a> and clamber on top of Bowser (damage will play a part in how strong any resistance is). The Bowser Bomb, meanwhile, is much the same as it was in <em>Melee</em>.<br /><br />Elsewhere, Sakurai discusses Meteor Smashes, maneuvers that let you spike already stricken opponents, sometimes with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ssbb-gallery-three/654921/">devastating effect</a>.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/bowser.html#2nd"><strong>Read</strong></a>: Bowser: Special Moves<br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/basic/basic10.html"><strong>Read</strong></a>: Meteor Smash<br /><br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/21/dojo-update-more-on-bowser-and-meteor-smashes/">Dojo update: More on Bowser and Meteor Smashes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Feb 2008 11:15:00 EST. We're still no clearer on what Yoshi's role is in this incestuous mess, and it's not something we wish to dwell on for longer than is necessary.<br /><br />Anyway, for the full hilarious/adorable transcript of this exchange, hit the "Read" link below. Every time we go to Craftster to look at this latest Nintendo <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quilt/">quilt</a>, we temporarily get distracted by the creator's choice of username: "iddosteveperry." How great is that? You'd have to make a hell of a quilt to outshine a username like that.<br /><br />We don't know if this Bowser-centric quilt manages to be more awesome than a pseudonymous admission of casual attraction to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Perry_(musician)">ex-Journey frontman</a>, but it's a pretty neat quilt. It's well-done, especially for a first quilt, very colorful, and features the <em>Super Mario Bros.</em>-era Bowser sprite! Quilt: <em><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__eI4u_tQD8">we kinda like you, baby</a>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/marios-cryin-now-because-of-this-great-quilt/">Mario's Cryin' Now because of this great quilt</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 18:00:00 EST. This time the song is parodied by Rob Balder, and tells the woes of an end boss that Nintendo fans might be more familiar with. <br /><br />That's right, the song features none other than Bowser, and he's not too pleased with Mario. Having a wife that indulges you in your obsession with gaming is nice, but one that <em>participates</em> in said obsession is even better. Hence, we have these two lovely pumpkins, carved by reader Colleen and her husband (unless his name is Colleen, which we've never heard before), they're some of the most awesome pumpkins our little eyes have ever seen.<br /><br />If you have a Nintendo-related pumpkin of your own, be sure to link it in the comments below. And, if you didn't know, Joystiq is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/joystiq-pumpkin-carving-contest-win-castlevania-dracula-x-chro/">running a contest</a> right now looking for these kind of creations.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/31/its-halloween-look-at-some-pumpkins/">It's Halloween! Mario and Sonic will soon put their bitter 16-bit rivalry aside, sharing screen time in Sega and Nintendo's <em>'Bizarro World'</em> collabo, <em>Mario &amp; Sonic at the Olympic Games</em>. With the release for the Wii just a couple of months away, Sega has released details concerning the game's 20 <em>authentic</em> Olympic events, as detailed below:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Fencing - Individual ep&eacute;e</li>
    <li>Archery</li>
    <li>Shooting - Skeet</li>
    <li>Gymnastics - Trampoline</li>
    <li>Gymnastics - Vault</li>
    <li>Field - High Jump</li>
    <li>Field - Pole Vault</li>
    <li>Field - Long Jump</li>
    <li>Field - Triple Jump</li>
    <li>Field - Javelin Throw</li>
    <li>Field - Hammer Throw</li>
    <li>Rowing - Single Sculls</li>
    <li>Table Tennis - Singles</li>
    <li>Aquatics - 100m Freestyle</li>
    <li>Aquatics - 4x100m Freestyle</li>
    <li>Track - 110m and 400m Hurdles</li>
    <li>Track - 4x100m Relay</li>
    <li>Track -100m and 400m </li>
</ul>
In addition, Sega has revealed that the game will include 16 different characters, 8 from Mario's universe, and 8 from Sonic's, and like in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/MarioKart/">Mario Kart</a></em>, the characters will each be broken up into different classes, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, Knuckles and Bowser will be part of the Power class, making them ideal for events requiring the kind of strength that only a anthropomorphic lizard and echidna can muster. As always, Mario will be balanced all around, as will Sonic's Amy, while Sonic himself will obviously dominate the Speed class alongside our dark horse prediction, Yoshi.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/mario-and-sonic-olympic-events-revealed/">Mario &amp; Sonic Olympic events revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 12:05:00 EST. We can understand why-- we've certainly been enjoying staring at it for a few hours.<br /><br />The full image is after the break, but even in the detail shown above, you can see the insane shading and dynamic movement that make Neo-Geo Forums user hermegildo's drawing so compelling. Faced with a dead Peach and a slavering, hulking Bowser, the usually-jovial <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Mario/">Mario</a> abandons his "Okey-dokey"s and flies into battle, fireballs blazing. It completely, <em>awesomely</em> rejects the mood of the Mario series.<br /><br />[Thanks, Jason!]</div>

This awesome picture made the <a href="http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Mario_vs_Bowser_PIC">Digg front page</a>, and for good reason. It's a shame we don't see Toad anywhere. Thanks to commenter Borman, we now know the origins of the sketch (later colored by other forum members) come from the Neo-Geo forums by an artist named <a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167733">hermegildo</a>. Continuing the focus on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/dojo-update-bowser/">Bowser</a>, the Dojo has updated, showing off Bowser's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/29/smash-bros-site-reveals-final-smash-item/">Final Smash</a>. Unlike <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/18/dojo-update-links-final-smash/">Link's</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/dojo-update-pikachus-final-smash/">Pikachu's</a>, Bowser's Final Smash sees him transforming into the monstrosity you see above. In this form, Bowser hands out beatings like the Santa at the mall hands out candy canes during Christmas.<br /><br />The other update over at the Dojo sees the explanation of attacks, and how they're performed using each of the available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/dojo-update-custom-controller-configurations/">control</a> schemes. There, each attack, from standard to Smash, are now dictated by how strongly you press the analog stick. This should allow players to control their attacks and fight more effectively.<br /><br />As usual, we've included images of the attack breakdown and Giga Bowser in the gallery below.<br /><br />
<br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/characters/bowser.html">Read</a> - Giga Bowser<br /><a href="http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/index.html">Read</a> - Attack breakdown<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/05/dojo-update-giga-bowser-and-smash-attacks/">Dojo update: Giga Bowser and Smash Attacks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jul 2007 11:20:00 EST. Today's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dojo">Dojo</a> update brings us images and the character profile for the game's resident tank character Bowser. If there's one thing we can say after seeing today's update, it's that Bowser looks <em>amazing</em>. Seriously, look at that character model above. Do you not cower in fear? We do, oh <em>how we do</em>.<br /><br />Check out the new images of Bowser in the gallery below.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/dojo-update-bowser/">Dojo update: Bowser</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jul 2007 11:25:00 EST. Just as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/nintendo-signs-international-merch-deal/">we were talking</a> about the difficulty of scoring Nintendo merchandise, this auction pops up on eBay. With bobblehead figurines of Luigi, Mario, Bowser and Yoshi, we find ourselves wishing we had quicker reflexes, as the auction has already closed. All figurines ended up going to one lucky individual who chose the option to buy it now for the fair price of 39.99 GBP.<br /><br />If you know of any cool eBay auctions, be sure to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tips">send us</a> a tip!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesniped.com/2007/06/18/nintendo-bobbleheads/">GameSniped</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/20/ebay-alert-nintendo-bobblehead-figurines/">eBay alert: Nintendo bobblehead figurines</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jun 2007 16:25:00 EST. In honor of Father's Day, we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dsd">thought we'd ask</a> a themed question: Who's your favorite father and son/daughter team? Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr., or, uh, hmm. Oh, how about Bowser and the Koopa Kids? Pac-Man and Baby Pac-Man? Pitfall Harry and Harry Jr. from <em>Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure?</em> <br /><br />Man, we already had to go to <em>Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure? </em>Maybe you guys can think of more. We can't be retrogaming encyclopedias <em>every day, </em>okay? It would be pretty hard to limit this to the DS, but if you can think of DS characters, you win at commenting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/17/ds-daily-happy-fathers-day/">DS Daily: Happy Father's Day!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 17 Jun 2007 10:00:00 EST. A Livejournal group called "Bento Challenge," which is devoted to making festive Japanese-style lunches in recognizable shapes, is doing a "game characters" theme this week. And, as you may expect, that means a lot of Nintendo. In <strike>Soviet Russia</strike> Japan, <em>you</em> eat <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Kirby/">Kirby</a>!<br /><br /></em>We posted the Kirby because it's so adorable-- he's just SO HAPPY about being your lunch! But there is other stuff in the competition that must be seen to be believed, like a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/PaperMario/">Paper Mario</a>-</em>style Bowser that is basically perfect. Forget waggling, <em>devouring </em>is the real Revolution.<br /><br />We spend too much time on unimportant aspects of our food, like <em>flavor. </em>We should really be paying more attention to how much like a Nintendo character our meals look.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/30/nin-bento-makes-us-happy-we-have-to-eat-food-to-live/">Nin-bento makes us happy we have to eat food to live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2007 10:35:00 EST. He told us he had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/05/link-inked/">read</a> another story showcasing another sweet gaming tattoo and felt his would be appreciated. Oh, they are! The title was recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/the-big-three-are-coming-in-2007-to-japan/">confirmed for release</a> this year, leaving our Nunchuk thumbs quivering in anticipation.<br /><br />Mario is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders, however. The groundbreaking titles, from the original <em>Super Mario Brothers</em> through to <em>Super Mario 64</em> (sorry, <em>Mario Sunshine</em>), were more than great games; they also defined their platforms, setting new standards both technically and in terms of design.<br /><br />It's no surprise then, that bloggers are starting to make demands for what they want to see in the new release. Check the <a href="http://www.codenamerevolution.com/?p=4978">link</a> to see what people want this time around, and let us know what you want included.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/07/the-galaxy-awaits-marios-big-return/">The galaxy awaits Mario's big return</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 May 2007 11:55:00 EST. There is little more than a promo video and some boxart at present, but more is apparently on the way. We got a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/11/gdc-07-mario-strikers-charged-impressions/">quick look at the game</a> last month, and thought it seemed pretty fun, particularly in multiplayer. The game will feature online play, the first to do so in Europe and Australia, with ranked matches limited to players in the same region. You'll also be able to swap friend codes for unranked matches - friend codes will be assigned to your Mii rather than your console, so if you happen to share a console with someone whose friends you hate, you won't have to play them.<br /><br />We're also looking forward to trying the Mega Strikes: where the ball splits into five shots, which your opponent has to block with the Wiimote. Taking multiple shots at the keeper always used to get us in trouble at school, but here it's positively encouraged - you'll get a goal for each one that hits the back of the net.<br /><br /><em>Mario Strikers Charged</em> kicks and screams its way into Europe on May 25th, with other regions to follow.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/05/mario-strikers-charged-dribbling-ever-closer/">Mario Strikers Charged - dribbling ever closer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 May 2007 17:00:00 EST. Posing for a photo to promote <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/superpapermario">Super Paper Mario's</a></em> release, the groom looks none too happy about the event. If the crossed arms and eye-contact avoidance aren't indication enough of his displeasure, then the literal and metaphorical distance between the couple gives it away.<br /><br />Years from now, the Koopa King will look back on his glory days of battling plumbers and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/racing">racing</a> karts, regretting that he ever gave into the princess' pressures, trapping himself in this loveless marriage. He'll sigh and wonder how old age crept up on him. After finishing his cigarette on the driveway -- Peach hates it when he smokes inside -- he'll saunter back into the house that's never felt like home, pushing the memories of what once was out of his mind.<br /><br />Head past the post break for the full invitation.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/a-not-so-fairytale-wedding/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A not so fairytale wedding</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/12/a-not-so-fairytale-wedding/">A not so fairytale wedding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 12 Apr 2007 11:00:00 EST. Gentlemen, <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/countblockula/368532875/">CountBlockula</a>, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic koopa. Bowser will be that koopa. Better than he was before. Better...stronger...faster. But from the sound of it, all we got were peanuts.</p>
<p>Having played the game ourselves, we see where the review is coming from and we are 100% catching what they are throwing -- something Mario and his pals seem to fail at.</p>
<p>The review basically states that the controls are good in theory, but iffy on paper. Stealing is difficult and passing is okay, when it works. Your teammates are pretty much useless. They never try to steal or use items to help you out. They are especially difficult to work with against perfect AI on harder levels.</p>
<p>Good luck on unlocking all your favorite <em>Final Fantasy</em> characters. The levels are difficult and your opponents ruthless. While it sounds like a challenge, it lacks an important element -- fun. <em>Mario Hoops 3 on 3</em> received a 6 out of 10 -- a passable grade and rightful score for an average sports title.</p>
<p>Check out the rest of the review to see what else <a href="http://www.1up.com/">1up</a> found wrong with the game. Or, pipe up and let us know that we and everyone else is completely wrong (we know you like doing that anyway) and <em>Mario Hoops</em> is z<em>omg teh best game evah kthxbye!</em></p>
<p>[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/13/1up-mario-hoops-review-did-mario-serve-an-airball/">1up Mario Hoops review -- did Mario serve an airball?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Sep 2006 12:15:00 EST. The first video even shows Mario duking it out with the&nbsp;big bad Bowser himself in the truest fashion, that is, in a recreation of their very first encounter back during the original <em>Super Mario Bros.</em> This time around has an exception, however, as once he is thrust into the liquid magma, Bowser emerges to the surface, much in the way T1000 did at the end of <em>Terminator 2,</em> thrashing about in great pain, yet displaying a ghastly skeletal visage. Could this finally be the end of Bowser? </p>
<p>Also, how odd is it that his hair doesn't even get scorched?</p>

But that's what's to be expected anytime you try to cram the baddest evildoers into a list
of ten. Here goes:<br />
<ul>
    <li>#10 - Bowser (<em>Super Mario</em>)</li>
    <li>#9 - Dr. Robotnik
(<em>Sonic</em>)</li>
    <li>#8 - Dracula (<em>Castlevania</em>)</li>
    <li>#7 - Evil Otto (<em>Berzerk</em>)</li>

  <li>#6 - Psycho Mantis (<em>MGS</em>)</li>
    <li>#5 - Kerrigan (<em>Starcraft</em>)</li>
    <li>#4 - SHODAN
(<em>System Shock</em>)</li>
    <li>#3 - Wesker (<em>Resident Evil</em>)</li>
    <li>#2 - Sephiroth
(<em>FFVII</em>)</li>
    <li>#1 - The Nazis ("too many games to count")</li>
</ul>
What?! No Ganondorf?
Blasphemy. So how does your list compare?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/08/top-10-most-memorable-villains/">Top 10 most memorable villains</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Mar 2006 12:30:00 EST.
