Granted, some might say there's a lot of -- oh, what's the polite term being used -- "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shovelware">shovelware</a>" coming to the Wii. Evidenced today by the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/nintendo-flaunts-mega-sized-wii-and-ds-release-list/">mega-list released</a> by Nintendo, but there's a game that even got the guys over at Wii Fanboy <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/10/11/first-brothers-in-arms-game-to-be-updated-to-wii-this-november/">a little skeeved</a>: <em>Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30</em> was a great game ... in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/02/14/brothers-in-arms-road-to-hill-30-is-trying-to-improve-the-ww2/">2005</a>. As Wii Fanboy puts it, other than giving it motion controls, "what other improvements could Ubisoft hope to make to the title to validate it on the Wii?"<br /><br />An <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/05/no-online-capabilities-for-3rd-party-wii-games-in-2007-says-s/">extreme possibility</a> is Wi-Fi play, as multiplayer was a component of the original game. Mostly though, <em>Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30</em> gives the haters more ammunition that the Wii is a great repository for old games "now with waggle." Nintendo should definitely <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/software-developers-worried-about-the-wii-hesitant-to-make-game/">attempt to craft good relationships with third-party developers</a> and not continue down this path of "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/13/are-nintendo-fanboys-hurting-the-wiis-3rd-party-support-one-fa/">Nintendo is all about first party</a>," but it's hard to see how allowing three year old games to make a second run with added Wiimote support is helping. It's still early enough in the Wii's life for this to be minimal, but third-party ports of old games will hopefully not be on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/nintendo-flaunts-mega-sized-wii-and-ds-release-list/">Wii justification list</a> in 2008.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/10/11/first-brothers-in-arms-game-to-be-updated-to-wii-this-november/">WiiFanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/brothers-in-arms-gonna-rock-wii-like-its-2005/">Brothers in Arms gonna rock Wii like it's 2005</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 20:00:00 EST. Sure, we've received a <em>Quake</em>-style title in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=metroid+prime+hunters"><em>Metroid Prime Hunters</em></a>, but the controls cause our hand to cramp up pretty quickly. We never got a chance to check out <em>Brothers in Arms</em>, but other than that, what is there?<br /><br />Do you think the system can't possibly expect to see a quality FPS title in its future? As for us, we picked up a certain <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=planet+puzzle+league">puzzle</a> game and are considering joining the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=brothers+in+arms">front lines</a>, but have nothing else really planned for play in our DS Lite.<br /><br />What about you, fine reader? DS games are forging new 3D ground lately, and with all the rich textures and increased action, we diehards have been busily chewing our nails and wondering just how all these games would play out. Early verdicts are in on <em>Brothers in Arms</em>, and so far, things are looking alright. <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/brothersinarmsds">Print media</a> seems to be scoring the title higher than online reviewers, but that may change as more reviews trickle in.<br /><a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=165721"><br />CVG -- 77%</a>: "The first thing that gets you about <em>Brothers</em> on DS is just how incredible it looks and sounds. Okay, it's not the PC or 360 versions but as far as DS games go, this is up there with the best of them ... <em>Brothers In Arms DS</em> is a good little action-shooter that makes great use of the DS's unique interface. With the tactical aspect of its gameplay removed in favour of a linear action approach, it loses some of its style and identity, but it's nevertheless the first war shooter for DS, and sets a high standard to beat."<br /><br /><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=77636">Eurogamer</a> -- 60%: "Despite brevity, simplicity, and the slow turning, it's really very exciting to be playing an FPS of this complexity on the DS. The above problems are significant, but never stop the fun of blamming your way through a level, sniping out distant soldiers, or, best of all, explodifying everything in a tank. The story is hugely underwritten, but ultimately unimportant; the motivation, always the need to reach B from A without the Ns shooting you in the face with their Gs ... With some tighter programming, and far fewer invisible barriers and dumb deaths, <em>BiA</em> could have been rather good. As it is - flawed and fun - it's a fantastic signpost."<br /><br />So what's the word? At this point, it looks like <em>Metroid Prime: Hunters</em> fans need to look no further than <em>Brothers in Arms</em> for a chance to get their shooter on. While the game loses some of what makes the franchise unique, it's a great mark of what's to come -- and anytime a word like "explodifying" comes into play, there may just be something worth checking out.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/metareview-brothers-in-arms-ds/">Metareview: Brothers in Arms DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 15:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> has revealed the release dates for all of its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/uber-ubisoft-ubidays-video-roundup/">major 2007 titles</a>, asking the majority of them to form a neat line in November and proceed to remove the contents of your wallet one by one. You're more than welcome to make a fuss about it, but having the sneaky men of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/07/assassins-creed-set-for-november-release/"><em>Assassin's Creed</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/a-splinter-cell-conviction-trailer-and-apology-to-sam/"><em>Splinter Cell: Conviction</em></a> within grasp of your neck renders such action unwise. <br /><br />A more notable entry in the release schedule (as posted by <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78000">Eurogamer</a>) is Free Radical's sci-political first-person shooter, <em>Haze</em>, previously described as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/haze-coming-2007-for-ps3-may-only-be-timed-exclusive/">"leading on PS3"</a> in a display of timed exclusivity: <br />
<ul>
    <li><em>Haze</em> (PS3) -- 23 November</li>
</ul>
Oh, you'll be wanting the release date for the other platforms as well:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strike><em>Haze </em>(Xbox 360, PC) -- 30 November</strike> [<strong>Update: </strong>Oh dear, Ubisoft has removed the Xbox 360 and PC versions of <em>Haze</em> from the current release list. We're waiting to hear back from Ubisoft on the matter.]<br /></li>
</ul>
Other key titles dated after the break include <em>Assassin's Creed</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/23/dark-messiah-blesses-xbox-360-forsakes-ps3-and-wii/"><em>Dark Messiah: Elements</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/todays-multiplying-videos-rabbids-gameplay/"><em>Rayman Raving Rabbids 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brothersinarms"><em>Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway</em></a>, and <em>Splinter Cell: Conviction. </em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/ubisoft-dates-haze-splinter-cell-raving-rabbids-2-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ubisoft dates Haze, Splinter Cell, Raving Rabbids 2, more [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/ubisoft-dates-haze-splinter-cell-raving-rabbids-2-more/">Ubisoft dates Haze, Splinter Cell, Raving Rabbids 2, more [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 12:30:00 EST. It seems like every company is pulling out all the stops and quality games are getting ready to rain from the heavens. Some say that 2007 may be the best year <em>EVAR</em>. True or not, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ubisoft/">Ubisoft</a> is playing a large role in the 360's holiday season. As proof of that, <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78000">Eurogamer</a> has unveiled Ubisoft's official release list for this holiday season, including planned release dates for major titles like <em>Assassin's Creed</em> and <em>Splinter Cell Conviction</em>. Ubisoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ubidays">Ubidays</a> event in Paris spawned almost as many video trailers as it did announcements. Thanks to the wonders of embeddable streaming video, we're able to put them all in a single post for your viewing pleasure and/or displeasure, depending on the game. <br />

<strong>Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (Xbox 360)<br />
<br />
</strong>Loosely based on the 837,212 episodes of popular anime, Naruto, this cel-shaded action game seems to strongly encourage you to leap through trees, punch older men and generally behave like a ninja who's under the constant scrutiny of kids. No sudden decapitations like that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninjagaiden">other guy</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/uber-ubisoft-ubidays-video-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Uber Ubisoft Ubidays video roundup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/uber-ubisoft-ubidays-video-roundup/">Uber Ubisoft Ubidays video roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 May 2007 08:00:00 EST. It may also include a lot of Nazi killing. We couldn't be happier, as the <em>Brothers in Arms</em> franchise is one of the very few WWII-based series of games left that are worth playing. The images of the game (which have been embedded past the post break) are of very low quality, so we cannot discern whether the graphics are something to be excited about or not.<br /><br />We can confirm, however, that the game is to feature 3 different campaigns, spanning 16 missions and several of the countries involved in the war. The touch-screen will be used for switching weapons, tossing grenades (player must draw a line for trajectory) and aiming at enemies. The top screen is obviously going to be used to present the action.<br /><br />No word on whether this title is to be Wi-Fi Connect compatible or not.<br /><br />[Thanks, Ken!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/26/latest-nintendo-power-confirms-brothers-in-arms-coming-to-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Latest Nintendo Power confirms Brothers in Arms coming to DS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/26/latest-nintendo-power-confirms-brothers-in-arms-coming-to-ds/">Latest Nintendo Power confirms Brothers in Arms coming to DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Feb 2007 15:15:00 EST. They had a chance to play the upcoming <em>Brothers in Arms</em> game on PSP. Just like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/26/metareview-medal-of-honor-heroes/"><em>Medal of Honor</em></a>, this WWII franchise is attempting to make the jump to PSP without losing anything in the transition. According to <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/748/748745p1.html">IGN</a>, the game features maps from previous entries in the series: <em>Road to Hill</em> <em>30</em> and <em>Earned in Blood</em>, plus four new levels exclusive for the PSP. There will, thankfully, be a lot more checkpoints in the handheld version, to make it easier for gamers-on-the-go. It's also nice to know that the PSP version won't skimp on any features: it'll still feature the series-defining overhead view, which allows players to see the battle from above, and make strategic decisions. The game also features suppression gauges, which will allow you to see places to get cover much more easily. And finally, the game will also have a co-op mode and many of the multiplayer features found in <em>Medal of Honor</em>. Overall, it seems like <em>Brothers in Arms</em> will be an impressive package. The real question is: will PSP gamers care?<br /><br />According to amazon.com, the game is coming out December 5th for a nice budget price of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AAKW0S/105-5480256-8810035?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000AAKW0S">$30</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/02/brothers-in-arms-uncompromising-move-to-psp/">Brothers in Arms' uncompromising move to PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 02 Dec 2006 16:30:00 EST. This information was contained in Ubisoft's quarterly earnings report, along with the announcement of a sequel to the massively popular <em>Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter</em>. There is some more good news here, too. <em>GRAW</em> <em>2 </em>is apparently set to release in the first half of 2007. The delay of <em>Assassin's Creed</em> is upsetting to be sure, but <em>GRAW 2</em> makes a damned fine replacement. <em> </em>Still, we're <em>very</em> excited to see <em>Assassin's Creed</em> and we hope that it comes out sooner rather than later.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xboxic.com/news/1857">Xboxic</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/24/assassins-creed-bia-pushed-back-graw2-coming/">Assassin's Creed, BIA pushed back, GRAW2 coming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Oct 2006 15:30:00 EST. It just took a really long time for any info to be revealed. Ubisoft just unveiled <em>Brothers in Arms: D-Day</em>, which will be exclusive for the PSP handheld. You'll be able to command a Bazooka team, use an MG42 and fire mortar rounds. Supposed additions include surprise attacks, improved AI and destructable cover points. Better yet, it'll feature a co-op mode. The game will be launching in November, a few weeks after the eerily-similar <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/medal-of-honor/"><em>Medal of Honor Heroes</em></a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/729/729376p1.html">IGN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/30/brothers-in-arms-d-day-revealed/">Brothers in Arms D-Day revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Aug 2006 12:40:00 EST. Speaking with IGN, company president Randy Pitchford confirmed, "Gearbox Software is enthusiastically supporting the Wii."<br /><br />Currently, Gearbox is developing <em>Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway</em> for PS3 and Xbox 360. It's unclear if a version of this same title will be released for Wii -- similar to what's being done with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/03/next-call-of-duty-answered-previewed/" target="_blank"><em>Call of Duty 3</em></a> -- or if Gearbox will design an entirely new game for Nintendo's console, which, if this is the case, will still likely be a <em>Brothers in Arms</em> installment. Several months ago, an alleged Ubisoft (publisher of <em>Brothers in Arms</em>) release list was leaked onto the internet and featured an unnamed <em>Brothers in Arms </em>title for Wii.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/27/gearbox-pledges-wii-support-another-wwii-shooter-likely/">Gearbox pledges Wii support, another WWII shooter likely</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Jul 2006 12:30:00 EST.
