It's spent multiple titles and a lot of money shoring up the <em>Need for Speed</em> brand on all kinds of platforms, and while the <em>Most Wanted</em> series (known for racing from an underground perspective) isn't the strongest, it's about time EA released another game bearing that title. And after the success with <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em> in 2010, it's not surprising that Criterion's been given the task of making it.<br /><br />But just a few seconds with this game reveals a deeper truth: This is really a secret message from Criterion to its fans, funneled through EA's branding channels. <em>Need for Speed: Most Wanted</em> is an open-world racer in a beautiful city. It's full of various events, environmental features to find, and a social backend that's full of information and ways to connect and compete with fellow players.<br /><br />In other words, it's <em>Burnout Paradise 2</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-most-wanted-e3-2012/">Need for Speed Most Wanted (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-most-wanted-e3-2012/#5079555"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/mostwanted016_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-most-wanted-e3-2012/#5079556"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/mostwanted017_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-most-wanted-e3-2012/#5079557"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/mostwanted018_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-most-wanted-e3-2012/#5079558"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/mostwanted019_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-most-wanted-e3-2012/#5079559"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/mostwanted020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/11/need-for-speed-most-wanted-is-a-secret-return-to-paradise/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: Most Wanted is a secret return to Paradise</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/11/need-for-speed-most-wanted-is-a-secret-return-to-paradise/">Need for Speed: Most Wanted is a secret return to Paradise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Jun 2012 21:00:00 EST. When it comes to digital distribution services, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/EA">EA</a>'s <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Origin">Origin</a> is the new kid in school. And who wants to hang out with the new kid? Nobody, that's who, unless the new kid has <em>pockets full of candy</em>. And by candy, we mean <a href="http://store.origin.com/store?Action=html&amp;SiteID=ea&amp;om_i=_BOMwM5B8cj0JJ5&amp;om_u=2314056522&amp;pbpage=summersale&amp;sourceid=origin1103">really cheap video-games</a>. <br />
<br />
From now until tomorrow, you can promise to be Origin's best friend forever in exchange for 36 PC games and/or expansion packs on sale for $4.99 each, including <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Battlefield-bad-company-2"><em>Battlefield: Bad Company 2</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/spore"><em>Spore</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Mirrors-Edge"><em>Mirror's Edge</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Burnout-Paradise-The-Ultimate-Box"><em>Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box</em></a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/littlest-pet-shop"><em>Littlest Pet Shop</em></a>. Whether or not Origin's popularity on the playground will last when the candy runs out remains to be seen, but for right now we're willing to trade our chocolate milk for a copy of <em>Sim City 4</em>. <br />

Just hours after the PlayStation Network Store <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/psn-will-be-fully-restored-today/">went back online</a>, Sony took to its European PlayStation blog to detail both what's coming in the first major update, as well as what European PS Plus subscribers will be receiving in the coming weeks. Beyond the already detailed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/16/sony-reveals-choice-of-free-game-downloads-in-psn-welcome-back-p/">"Welcome Back" content</a>, SCEE says an extra 10 days will be added to the 60 already included in the Plus "Welcome Back" package, "due to the Store coming back a little later that we hoped."<br />
<br />
Additionally, <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/03/02/new-playstation-plus-content-for-march-april-2011/">April's Plus content</a> and deals are being extended for two extra weeks, meaning that if you missed a chance to download <em>Premiere Manager</em> at 50 percent off, there's still time! June's offers have yet to be revealed, but the post does promise Plus users a free copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> as part of the month's content offerings.<br />
<br />
The "<a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/04/12/heads-up-game-store-update-scee-spring-offers-2011/">Spring Offers</a>" deal for all PSN users has also been extended to June 8, a sale which was unavailable during the majority of its duration as a result of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psn-outage-2011">month-long PSN outage</a>. All PSN users can also snag a free copy of <em>FIFA 11 Ultimate Team</em>, a soccer management game from EA, for the time being.<br />
<br />
And finally, the EU PlayStation Store has also received a massive update, the likes of which we've never seen before. <em>Final Fantasy VI</em> is totally on there, as is a mess of new <em>Hyperdimension Neptunia</em> content and ... well, you know what? We're going to simply <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/06/02/heads-up-game-store-mega-update-2nd-june-2011/">point you to it</a> rather than try to wade the flood.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/euro-psn-gets-massive-update-ps-plus-members-get-more-freebies/">Euro PSN gets massive update, PS Plus members get more freebies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 02 Jun 2011 15:40:00 EST. You probably got that idea already, considering nothing but the sound of crickets and tumbleweeds have emerged from Criterion HQ since the release of the last bit of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> DLC, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/big-surf-island">Big Surf Island</a>. A <a href="http://twitter.com/CriterionGames/status/7986040769">tweet</a> from the company account confirms our fears, stating there will be "<span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">no more" DLC and that the company </span></span><span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">"did WAY more than everyone else."</span></span> That's all well and good, but it doesn't slake our need for more <em>amazing</em> DLC!<br />
<br />
So there you have it. The world is a colder and darker place today. If you need us, we'll be Freeburning our troubles away online, pining for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/18/criterion-details-burnout-paradise-dlc-that-never-was/">what could have been</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/criterion-puts-the-brakes-on-hopes-for-more-burnout-paradise-dlc/">Criterion puts the brakes on hopes for more Burnout Paradise DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jan 2010 23:00:00 EST. You gotta give it up to Criterion Games. Throughout the lifespan of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>, the developers at Criterion worked their buns off to give us all kinds of juicy DLC, from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/criterion-games-takes-us-on-a-tour-of-burnout-paradises-big-sur/">a new island</a> to explore, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/joystiq-review-burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">new game mode</a>, right down to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/burnout-paradise-getting-motorcycles-night-driving-this-august/">motorcycles</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/toy-cars-dlc-rolling-into-burnout-paradise-this-thursday/">many</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/">many</a> car packs. Now, the company has prepared <a href="http://portal.burnoutweb.ea.com/page/news">a lengthy diatribe</a> documenting some of the updates that never got off the ground.<br />
<br />
For one, did you know that Criterion initially planned to have motorcycles vs cars? Yep, sure was planned -- and did you know that Criterion wanted to create a whole series of islands, not just the one? The devs even wanted to give players the ability to go to the moon, complete with lunar challenges for Freeburn addicts. Also: the planes thing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/burnout-paradise-planes-could-be-just-an-april-fools-joke/">wasn't</a> an April Fool's joke -- the dev actually wanted to add them (and other vehicles) into the game.<br />
<br />
Overall, it's a pretty great read, if only to show you just how committed the studio was to the game and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/joystiq-interview-downloading-criterions-thoughts-on-dlc/">raising the bar for DLC</a> in general.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/18/criterion-details-burnout-paradise-dlc-that-never-was/">Criterion details Burnout Paradise DLC that never was</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Dec 2009 22:30:00 EST. Not everything is on sale, however -- some of the newer titles like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a> and the <em>Dragon Age Collector's Edition </em>don't qualify (though the regular version of the latter is on sale for $35). If you're determined to get good deals on some of these newer games, we have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/25/black-friday-video-game-deals-hub/">a feeling</a> you'll be able to find 'em somewhere.<br />

We've spoken to Splash Damage's Richard 'Rahdo' Ham <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/interview-splash-damages-richard-rahdo-ham">in the past</a>, so we know he's no stranger to a certain amount of exuberance about the game he's working on, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brink"><em>Brink</em></a>. In his latest interview with <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/exclusive-egtv-brink-interview">Eurogamer</a>, his excitement reaches a fever pitch and he confirms plans for a "second and third" in the <em>Brink</em> series. <br /><br />"We already have big plans for that," Ham said. He hopes that <em>Brink</em>'s integration of online play -- a combination of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>'s freeburn mode and an FPS -- will best reigning multiplayer kingpins <em>Halo</em> and <em>Call of Duty</em>. Of course, upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-3-odst">new</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2">entries</a> in each of those franchises are certain to put up a fight before succumbing to Mr. Ham's ambitions.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brink-xbox-360-ps3-pc/">Brink</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brink-xbox-360-ps3-pc/#2052576"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/founders_tower_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Concept art ? Container City" title="Concept art ? Container City" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brink-xbox-360-ps3-pc/#2052577"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/mantle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brink-xbox-360-ps3-pc/#2052578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/nothing_to_declare_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brink-xbox-360-ps3-pc/#2052579"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/robot_escort_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/brink-xbox-360-ps3-pc/#2220300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/2009-08-19_15-20-59_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/splash-damage-has-big-plans-for-brink-franchise/">Splash Damage has big plans for Brink franchise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 14:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-natal">Project Natal</a> has been the talk of the virtual town since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/microsoft-reveals-project-natal-motion-camera-for-360/">its unveiling</a> back at E3. A <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/28/ubisoft-looks-to-the-wii-project-natal-for-casual-gaming-future/">few</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/20/parappa-creator-raps-about-natals-musical-possibilities/">developers</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/endwar-dev-excited-about-natals-rts-possibilities/">have</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/mizuguchi-suda-51-weigh-in-on-e3s-new-motion-controllers/">dished</a> on the possibilities, but theoretical physicist-employing Valve has kept silent. The reason behind that silence, <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/valve-on-project-natal-show-us-the-compelling-game-first-142872.phtml">Destructoid</a> reports, is because Valve is waiting to see something "compelling" before diving right it.<br /><br />Okay, we'll admit that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/project-natal-video-features-smack-talking-scruffy-teenagers/"><em>Block Breaker</em></a> and <em>Burnout Paradise</em> looked pretty fun on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/video-project-natal-invades-late-night-with-jimmy-fallon/">Late Night with Jimmy Fallon</a> and at E3, but Valve certainly has a point. Talking with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/milo">a virtual kid</a> is kinda cool, but we can see the novelty wearing off quickly. And how much <em>Block Breaker </em>can one honestly play before having a heart attack?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/07/valve-wants-to-see-a-compelling-game-from-natal-so-do-we/">Valve wants to see a 'compelling game' from Natal (so do we!)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Aug 2009 04:00:00 EST. Grasshopper Manfacture boss Goichi "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/suda51">Suda 51</a>" Suda likes to do everything to the extreme, whether it's the ultra-violence of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes">No More Heroes</a> </em>or -- as we now know -- playing other developers' games, specifically Criterion's <em>Burnout Paradise</em>. The British dev's head honcho, Alex Ward, <a href="http://twitter.com/CrashAlex/status/2421218509">issued a tweet</a> revealing that Suda had recently popped by his studio (likely after the recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/inafune-suda51-to-speak-at-nordic-games-summit/">Nordic Game Conference</a>) and is a "hardcore <em>Burnout </em>fan."<br /><br />"Hardcore" may be an understatement, as Ward disclosed that server logs show Suda has played more than 700 hours of <em>Burnout Paradise</em>. So, there it is: Even more proof that Suda 51 knows great games <em>and</em> takes everything <em>to the extreme</em>. It may also explain why we haven't heard anything more about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/ea-publishing-new-action-horror-franchise-from-suda51-shinji/">the horror title he's working on</a> for EA alongside <em>Resident Evil</em> creator Shinji Mikami.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/07/01/suda51-has-played-burnout-paradise-for-over-700-hours/">VG247</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/01/suda51-plays-burnout-paradise-a-lot-more-than-you/">Suda 51 plays Burnout Paradise (a lot) more than you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 21:00:00 EST. "Well, there are a lot of core gamers, and a lot of lighter users playing on platforms such as the DS," Suda said, "but there's nothing in-between. I think it's going to be very important for games to be created for that middle audience, and that will help bring the market back on-track."<br /><br />Responding to a follow-up question about Grasshopper's signature style, Suda named some mass market games with their own distinct styles. "For example, <em>Call of Duty, LittleBigPlanet</em> or <em>BioShock </em>-- you can feel different core elements in each of those games.<em> Burnout Paradise</em> is my favourite [smiles]."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/23/suda-51-middle-market-is-key-to-refreshing-japanese-game-indust/">Suda 51: Middle market is key to refreshing Japanese game industry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Jun 2009 20:30:00 EST. Fans of Criterion's beloved <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=billy+joel+car+crash&amp;ie=utf-8&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;aq=t&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a">Billy Joel driving/crashing simulator</a>, <em>Burnout Paradise</em>, were hit hard by the events of yesterday's Xbox Live Marketplace implosion -- frequent <em>Burn</em>-ers have been unable to download the game's long anticipated territorial expansion, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/big-surf-island"><em>Big Surf Island</em></a>. According to Criterion, "unforeseen technical problems caused this content to be to be removed from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace." Fortunately, <a href="http://portal.burnoutweb.ea.com/page/article?article=893">the <em>Burnout</em> team is all up on it</a>, working with Microsoft to get a fix out as soon as possible. We'll let you know when they're successful!<br /><br /><strong>Update: </strong>Success! Just like that, <a href="http://portal.burnoutweb.ea.com/page/article?article=894">Criterion's got Big Surf Island online</a>. Don't want to pony up the $8 to download <em>Burnout Paradise</em>'s premium "Legendary" cars? Well, here's a cheaper alternative: buy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/big-surf-island-will-wash-12-99-out-of-your-wallet/"><em>Big Surf Island</em></a> for $13, as it includes special <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/toy-cars-dlc-rolling-into-burnout-paradise-this-thursday/">toy versions</a> of all four <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/">DLC cars</a>. You can get a cute mini version of the hovering 88 Special (pictured above), Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and GT Nighthawk by completing various tasks around the new <em>Burnout</em> island:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strong>Toy Hunter Cavalry Bootlegger</strong> - Jump from all 15 Island Mega Jumps</li>
    <li><strong>Toy Jansen P12 88 Special</strong> - Hit all 45 Island Billboards</li>
    <li><strong>Toy Carson GT Nighthawk</strong> - Complete all 24 Island Road Rules (Timed &amp; Showtime)</li>
    <li><strong>Toy Hunter Manhattan Spirit</strong> - Hit all 75 Island Smashes </li>
</ul>
We'll admit that we were too cheap to pay for the Legendary DLC, but with a little bit of skill, we'll be able to drive our own <em>Ghostbusters</em>-inspired car in no time.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/">Burnout Paradise: Legendary Cars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273032"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.legendary.003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jansen 88 Special" title="Jansen 88 Special" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273414"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.comparison.001b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jansen 88 Special vs. DeLorean time machine" title="Jansen 88 Special vs. DeLorean time machine" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273026"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.legendary.001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Manhattan Spirit" title="Manhattan Spirit" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.comparison.002b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Manhattan Spirit vs. Ecto-1" title="Manhattan Spirit vs. Ecto-1" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273024"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.legendary.002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Carson Nighthawk" title="Carson Nighthawk" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/unlock-legendary-cars-for-free-in-burnout-paradise-big-surf/">Unlock Legendary cars (for free!) in Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 12:14:00 EST. How much will you pay for 15 new events in <em>Burnout Paradise</em>? Criterion is hoping the answer is $12.99 (&pound;9.99), because that's what it's charging for the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/big-surf-island/"><em>Big Surf Island</em> DLC pack</a>, available this Thursday. Interestingly, those who use Microsoft Magic Money[TM] get a slightly cheaper option at 1000<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />.<br /><br />It's certainly not as costly as some on the Joystiq team feared, but it's also far from an immediate impulse buy. While we understand Criterion wants to "make money" and "feed the family," we lament the long-gone days of free <em>Burnout </em>DLC.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/big-surf-island-will-wash-12-99-out-of-your-wallet/">Big Surf Island will wash $12.99 out of your wallet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 17:15:00 EST. Criterion Games has released the latest Crash TV episode looking at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><span style="font-style: italic;">Burnout Paradise</span></a>'s upcoming DLC, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/big-surf-island-adds-15-events-10-freeburn-challenges-to-burnou/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Big Surf Island</span></a>. In their classic style, the guys and gals at Criterion have given us a very in-depth look at the new content, showing off the new Criterion Dust Storm car, and even a building that one of the game's fans won the chance to name (he named it after his son, Taylor). <br /><br />Head past the break to check out <span style="font-style: italic;">Big Surf Island</span>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/criterion-games-takes-us-on-a-tour-of-burnout-paradises-big-sur/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Criterion Games takes us on a tour of Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/criterion-games-takes-us-on-a-tour-of-burnout-paradises-big-sur/">Criterion Games takes us on a tour of Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 17:15:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cops-and-robbers"><em>Cops and Robbers</em></a> out of the way, Criterion is free to finish up the last of the announced <em>Burnout Paradise</em> premium DLC -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/burnout-paradises-big-surf-island-now-premium-dlc/"><em>Big Surf Island</em></a>. This is the first new locale to be introduced into the ever-evolving racing game, and it'll add 15 events and 10 online freeburn challenges to the game. Criterion is promising big air for the expansion, and completionists will want to look for all 45 Billboards hidden on the island. For comparison purposes, the original game featured 120 events and 350 freeburn challenges.<br /><br />These early details come courtesy of an early look at the DLC's Trophies. (Check out the new Trophies after the break.) One particularly intriguing achievement involves getting a whopping 4.5 seconds of air time in a single jump. This one's just about as confusing as it gets, folks, but here goes nothing. Microsoft is repackaging eight of its titles under a new moniker: "Greatness is Earned." Though these titles still fall into the Platinum Hits category (and as such, are priced at $19.99 and up), a number of them are receiving the treatment for the first time. And this is where things get confusing: We've seen the <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/new-platinum-hits-packaging-spotted-in-the-wild-looks-snazzy/">"Greatness is Earned" logo</a> before, nearly a month ago now, on the repackaged <em>Gears of War</em> (Platinum Hits edition, mind you) <strike>seen above</strike>. At the time, Microsoft wouldn't comment on the images.<br /><br />Considering <em>Viva Pi&ntilde;ata</em> and <em>EA Sports Fight Night Round 3</em> are among them, we're doubting (and hoping) they won't all get the dark and brooding look. We've listed all eight titles after the break in for your perusal. We'd also like to point out that, while snooping around the Microsoft press site for images of these games, we noticed <em>Halo 3</em> "Classics" in the "Upcoming Games" category -- the same note found next to all other Platinum Hits games. Interesting, hmm?<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> We've replaced the image above with shots of the new "Greatness is Earned" pack shots of <em>Gears of War</em>, <em>Forza 2</em> and <em>Mass Effect</em>. For giant shots, peep the gallery below!<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/greatness-is-earned-packaging/">Greatness is Earned packaging</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/greatness-is-earned-packaging/#2016809"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/forza2_front_ph1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/greatness-is-earned-packaging/#2016810"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/gowfinalfixed1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/greatness-is-earned-packaging/#2016811"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/me_front_ph_1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/xbox-360-platinum-hits-are-numerous-cheap-rebranded/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Xbox 360 Platinum Hits are numerous, cheap, rebranded</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/xbox-360-platinum-hits-are-numerous-cheap-rebranded/">Xbox 360 Platinum Hits are numerous, cheap, rebranded</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 May 2009 11:15:00 EST. Gamers are in the middle of a love/hate relationship with Criterion. Costly and often-underwhelming "premium" DLC has tarnished the goodwill earned by <em>Burnout Paradise</em>'s free Cagney and Bikes updates. The $10 <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/review-burnout-paradise-party-criterions-first-premium-dlc/"><em>Party</em> pack</a> was a misstep for the series, but does <em>Cops &amp; Robbers</em> steer the game back in the right direction? The answer, thankfully, is a resounding "yes."<br /><br />At its core, <em>Cops &amp; Robbers</em> is a simple retooling of the game's already-existing online Marked Man mode. However, some key tweaks make it a much more focused and entertaining experience. While the $10 price point will give some sticker shock, the addition of more than 30 repainted vehicles makes it an easier buy than Criterion's "Toys" and "Legendary Cars" packs.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344484"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/paradisecopsrobbers2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise21024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise11024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/joystiq-review-burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Review: Burnout Paradise Cops &amp; Robbers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/joystiq-review-burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Joystiq Review: Burnout Paradise Cops &amp; Robbers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 13:45:00 EST. It looks like Criterion has finally figured out how much to charge for its upcoming <em>Cops and Robbers</em> DLC. The multiplayer-only premium DLC for <em>Burnout Paradise</em> will release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/cops-and-robbers-coming-to-burnout-paradise-april-30/">this Thursday</a> and will cost $9.99 / &euro;9.99 / &pound;7.99 / 800<img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />. The expansion not only adds the CTF-inspired online mode, but will also add <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/crash-tv-provides-early-glimpse-of-burnout-paradises-cop-cars/">33 new</a> international police cars to your Junkyard.<br /><br />At $10, <em>Cops and Robbers</em> looks to be a much better value than all of Criterion's previously released DLC. The price is (finally) right -- let's hope the trend continues for the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/burnout-paradises-big-surf-island-now-premium-dlc/"><em>Big Surf Island</em></a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344484"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/paradisecopsrobbers2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise21024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise11024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/27/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers-is-a-steal-at-10/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers is a steal at $10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 15:30:00 EST. A lot of <em>Burnout Paradise</em>'s "premium DLC" packs have left gamers out in the cold. The "Party" DLC <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/review-burnout-paradise-party-criterions-first-premium-dlc/">didn't add much</a> to the <em>Burnout</em> experience. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/">movie-inspired</a> DLC cars were fun, but a bit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars-priced/">pricey</a>. However, Criterion may have crafted a truly worthwhile add-on with its upcoming "<a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/cops-and-robbers-dlc-adds-8-new-trophies/">Cops and Robbers</a>" pack, available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/cops-and-robbers-coming-to-burnout-paradise-april-30/">next week</a>.<br /><br />The latest episode of CrashTV (after the break) shows the <em>Burnout</em> team enjoying three rounds of their upcoming multiplayer expansion. Essentially, "Cops and Robbers" is the <em>Paradise</em> version of Capture the Flag, with cars trying to capture a floating collection of gold. The gold will spawn at random points on the map, and teams will have to reclaim the treasure and drive back to their designated checkpoint. Expect tons of Takedowns.<br /><br />The team at Criterion looks to be having a lot of fun with this new expansion -- maybe <em>too much fun</em>. As generally grumpy people, we always keep a suspicious eye on people that appear to be <em>happy</em>. We're watching you, Criterion ...<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/criterion-has-too-much-fun-playing-burnout-paradise-cops-and-ro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Criterion has too much fun playing Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/criterion-has-too-much-fun-playing-burnout-paradise-cops-and-ro/">Criterion has too much fun playing Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 12:55:00 EST. Though we're inclined to point out the massively successful <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black-rock-studios/">Black Rock Studios</a> head Tony Beckwith and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/split-second/"><em>Split/Second</em></a> director Nick Baynes, the two believe "the racing genre is, in many respects, dying out." But alas, friends! There is hope yet! Speaking with <a href="http://www.developmag.com/news/31720/Disneys-Black-Rock-We-can-save-dying-racing-genre">Develop</a> recently, the two claim their studio's upcoming game <em>Split/Second</em> will help to turn that all around. <br /><br />"We're all fans of street racing here, but as a genre it is relatively stale -- the evolution is only coming from how you customize cars, which can only serve to remove you from the action - I think <em>Split/Second</em> will do the opposite," Baynes says, referencing the game's (<a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2007/09/09/video-crashtacular-burnout-paradise-gameplay/">familiar</a>) HUD-less design. Based on these comments, we're not so sure that the folks at Black Rock have been paying too much attention to the racing genre, though we will certainly admit to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/07/split-second-debut-trailer-is-highly-destructive/"><em>Split/Second</em> looking fantastic</a>. We'll just have to wait and see what the game does to substantiate the two's claims when the game arrives in "early 2010."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/21/black-rock-dev-says-racing-genre-is-dying-split-second-will-s/">Black Rock dev says racing genre is 'dying out,' Split/Second to give a 'kick start'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Apr 2009 22:00:00 EST. The folks at Criterion Games don't just sit around crashing virtual cars all day, you know. Well, okay, maybe they do <em>a little</em>, but they also produce a video show called Crash TV, which provides a behind-the-scenes look at everything the company is doing with its game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>. In the latest episode, Criterion previews some of the cop cars coming in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/burnout-paradise-teases-cops-and-robbers/">Cops and Robbers</a> DLC pack. We've embedded the latest episode of Crash TV after the break, which shows off around 15 new cop cars in total, so click through and get your 7-minute dose of cop car goodness.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344484"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/paradisecopsrobbers2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise21024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise11024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/crash-tv-provides-early-glimpse-of-burnout-paradises-cop-cars/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Crash TV provides early glimpse of Burnout Paradise's cop cars</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/crash-tv-provides-early-glimpse-of-burnout-paradises-cop-cars/">Crash TV provides early glimpse of Burnout Paradise's cop cars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Apr 2009 16:01:00 EST. We're not exactly sure what they stole, but judging by the teaser trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Burnout Paradise</span>'s</a> looming <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/cops-and-robbers/">Cops and Robbers</a> mode, criminals will have their jobs cut out for them outrunning the Paradise City fuzz. <br /><br />As a latest move to "change the way people <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/joystiq-interview-downloading-criterions-thoughts-on-dlc/">think about and experience</a>" the chaotic racer, much of Cops and Robbers' details remain behind bars, including the premium DLC's as-yet-unannounced release date. Still, if nothing else, this early look shows that Paradise City's police force is more than equipped to keep pace with lead foots on the wrong side of the law.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/burnout-paradise-teases-cops-and-robbers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Burnout Paradise teases 'Cops and Robbers' </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/burnout-paradise-teases-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise teases 'Cops and Robbers' </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 11:00:00 EST. Looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/criterion-bringing-cops-and-robbers-to-burnout-paradise/">Cops and Robbers</a>, the next bit of premium DLC being prepped for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/trophies-burnout-paradise/"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>, is finishing up. A set of eight new Trophies were just added to the game, bumping up the number of Trophies to a whopping 88. From what we can gather from the list, Cops and Robbers looks to be a <span style="font-style: italic;">Burnout</span> interpretation of Capture the Flag, with both Cops and Robbers racing each other to pick up Gold and deliver it to their base. Undoubtedly, takedowns will be a vital part of this online multiplayer mode.<br /><br />Criterion hasn't officially announced a release date or price for this upcoming mode, but this Trophy leak has us thinking it'll be sooner than later.<br /><br />[Thanks, Mason!]<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/cops-and-robbers-dlc-adds-8-new-trophies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cops and Robbers DLC adds 8 new Trophies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/cops-and-robbers-dlc-adds-8-new-trophies/">Cops and Robbers DLC adds 8 new Trophies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 17:30:00 EST. EA's perpetual joke -- <em>on you</em> -- comes to an ironic end on April Fools' Day with the release of de-authorization tools for each of its 19 PC games with SecuROM copy protection (full list and download links after the break). If you've been working on that class action lawsuit against EA for bundling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/securom/">SecuROM</a> with <em>The Sims 2: IKEA Home Stuff,</em> you can drop it now -- your flat-pack furniture can <em>finally</em> be moved to a new machine.<br />
<br />
In the spirit of generosity, EA's <a href="http://activate.ea.com/deauthorize/">giving</a> you <em>two</em> options for managing your authorizations:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Option 1: <a href="http://www.bigdownload.com/games/ea-deauthorization-management-tool/pc/ea-de-authorization-management-tool/">Download</a> and install yet another "tool" in order to scan your computer for EA's SecuROM games and find out how many computer authorizations you have (or don't have) left for each title.</li>
    <li>Option 2: Cut to the chase and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/01/gitcha-securom-de-authorization-tools-gitem-ova-hur/#continued">download</a> the game-specific de-authorization tool you need.</li>

Back in July of last year, Criterion Games mentioned that it had been <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/07/06/criterion-working-on-burnout-paradise-planes/">experimenting with airplanes</a> as a potential<em> </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> add-on; however, with new info claiming that an announcement regarding this is <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/faq/#">due on April 1st</a>, there's suspicion that such an update could be nothing more than a <em>really</em> long-running April Fool's joke. This information comes from the FAQ section on Criterion's website, where it was specifically stated to "check for an exciting announcement on April 1" for more on the inclusion of planes. <br /><br />Now, there are a number of ways we can read this quoted sentence. We can take it for face value and what it says directly, or we can assume that there's sarcasm and allusion in the type. Preferably, we'd like to think Criterion is serious about making plane crashes in Paradise City a reality, but the proposition of planes in <em>Burnout</em> is hard to believe. Associate that with April Fool's and, well, it's <em>really</em> hard to believe. It seems the real joke is on us trying to figure out which is which. We've contacted Criterion and EA to see if we can get a straight answer.<br /><br />[Thanks, Joey B.!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/burnout-paradise-planes-could-be-just-an-april-fools-joke/">Burnout Paradise planes could be an April Fool's joke</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 03:00:00 EST. Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/08/sony-teases-3d-ps3-tech-at-ces/">3D technology</a> impressed gamers that attended CES earlier this year. Games like <em>WipEout HD</em> and <em>Gran Turismo 5 Prologue</em> were used to demonstrate the PS3's ability to render 3D images that pop out of the screen -- provided you don special 3D glasses. The latest episode of <em>Qore</em> suggests <em>Burnout Paradise</em> might also implement this feature. The end of their <em>Burnout</em> video special shows the host, 3D glasses equipped, staring an oddly distorted image on the screen. Really, there's no other conclusion to be made: she was certainly playing <em>Burnout Paradise</em> in 3D.<br /><br />The tech is currently implemented in the PC version of the game and can only operate on special TVs and computer monitors with a speed of 100Hz or higher. To check out what hardware works for the PC version, check out <a href="http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_Requirements.html">Nvidia's website</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.yojmo.com/">Jason</a>!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/13/burnout-paradise-may-receive-3d-upgrade-on-ps3/">Burnout Paradise may receive 3D upgrade on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 13 Mar 2009 17:45:00 EST. Criterion Games, the nutty folks who just can't stop tinkering with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>, are preparing to unload yet another pile of DLC goodness onto the game in the form of The Boost Specials Collection. If you're finding a lapse in your memory regarding the Boost DLC, then read up on it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/burnout-paradise-toy-cars-and-boost-dlc-details-leaked/">here</a>.<br /><br />If you're too lazy to click (it's Monday, we totally understand), then here's a quick rundown: The Boost Specials Collection DLC features two cars -- the Hawker Mech and the Carson Extreme Hotrod -- priced at 240<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3) each. You can buy both in a single download for 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). It seems the Don has been spending some time in Paradise City, returning from his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/03/ea-whacks-the-godfather-ii-release-plans-delays-game/">extended vacation</a> with a pair of the city's more recognizable rides. Eagle eyes at Polish site <a href="http://www.playpc.pl/newsroom/artykul.asp?Artykul=546">Play PC</a> recently discovered similarities between two cars in both <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godfather-2">Godfather II</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>, namely the latter's Hunter Cavalry and Carson Opus.<br /><br />Whether or not the cars in the upcoming EA sequel are the exact same models as those in <em>Burnout</em>, or just strikingly similar, isn't exactly clear. In any case, the Don's chop shop looks like it sanded off most of the details from <em>Burnout</em>'s rides. When you're the Don, image is everything; we just hope the new paint jobs are as bulletproof as they are green.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-289312.aspx?CT=1">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/08/burnout-cars-spotted-on-godfather-iis-streets/">Burnout cars spotted on Godfather II's streets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 08 Mar 2009 22:45:00 EST. Good news! If you have yet to pick up <em>Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box</em> for PC, and if you absolutely hate things like boxes and physical manuals, <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=416">the game will soon arrive on Steam</a>. The Criterion website has revealed that <em>Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box</em> will be available on the service, though no further details were given. Such details, according to Criterion, will be revealed "soon."<br /><br /><em>The Ultimate Box</em>, which contains <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/burnout-ultimate-box-dated-exclusive-to-pc-in-north-america/">oodles of updates and previously released DLC</a> for <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>, was released to retail earlier this year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/burnout-paradise-the-ultimate-box-destined-for-steam/">Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box destined for Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Mar 2009 22:20:00 EST. Following a somewhat embarassing <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_bfVE-8dcc">premature release</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Burnout%20Paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>'s "Toy Cars" DLC a couple of weeks back on Xbox Live, Criterion has finally set <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=414">a legitimate release date for the nine-car pack</a>. Keep an eye on your respective system's digital shopping center this coming Thursday morning -- that's when Criterion anticipates the miniature vehicles will be released upon the inhabitants of Paradise City.<br /><br />Surprisingly, with two days between us and shrunken vehicular carnage, Criterion hasn't announced the price of the DLC bundle -- though if it matches the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/burnout-paradise-toy-cars-and-boost-dlc-details-leaked/">costs displayed during February's accidental launch</a>, we can expect to drop 1,000<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($12.50) for the whole kit 'n kaboodle, or 160<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2) per car, with the exception of the Toy Nakamura Firehawk motorcycle, which went for 240<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($3) during the early release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/toy-cars-dlc-rolling-into-burnout-paradise-this-thursday/">Toy Cars DLC rolling into Burnout Paradise this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 11:30:00 EST. Whatever the reason, Xbox players now possess a valid ID to gain entry into the Games Network, which includes such perks as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/rumor-police-cars-pursuits-returning-to-burnout-paradise-via-d/">discovery of new DLC</a> before it's "officially" announced.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/360-owners-granted-access-to-criterion-games-network/">360 owners granted access to Criterion Games Network</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Feb 2009 14:40:00 EST. Although all the vehicles can be browsed, the content is currently inaccessible.<br /><br />The Toy Cars Pack will feature nine rides (listed after the break, along with the Boost Specials), including an adorable miniature motorcycle. The Boost Specials DLC will pack two cars, featuring the previously unannounced Hawker Mech, which is allegedly customizable.<br /><br />While the Burnout Store doesn't currently reveal pricing for these vehicles, an <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_bfVE-8dcc">accidental release</a> on Xbox Live Marketplace did (the content has since been removed). The Toy Car Pack was apparently offered this morning as a single download for 1,000<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($12.50). Each toy car was also available individually for 160<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2), with the exception of the motorcycle, the Toy Nakamura Firehawk, offered for 240<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($3) -- the cars, minus the motorcycle, where also combined and offered in two separate packs for 480<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($6) each. The Boost Specials Pack was available as a single download for 400<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($5), or both cars could be purchased individually for 240<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($3). Obviously, the final pricing is subject to change.<br /><br />Big Surf Island, a new island being added to the <em>Burnout Paradise</em> universe, is still without a date. Promising the "biggest jumps in Paradise City" the upcoming DLC will also include a new vehicle: the Dust Storm. Undoubtedly, additional details will be unveiled in the coming weeks.<br /><br />Also released (and still available) on XBLM and PlayStation Store, is the new <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf000b-0000-4000-8000-000045410806">Time Savers Pack</a> for 400<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($5), which grants purchasers "the keys" to the the standard retail edition's unlockable cars. Apparently, you <em>can</em> put a price on impatience.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Criterion has confirmed these details through the in-game Burnout Store -- the original post has been altered to reflect the information found therein.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/burnout-paradise-toy-cars-and-boost-dlc-details-leaked/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Burnout Paradise Toy Cars and Boost DLC detailed [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/burnout-paradise-toy-cars-and-boost-dlc-details-leaked/">Burnout Paradise Toy Cars and Boost DLC detailed [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Feb 2009 17:10:00 EST. As if we weren't tantalized enough by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/">the gaggle of screens</a> Criterion sent over a few weeks back, today the company dropped teaser videos for each of the cars in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars-coming-feb-19/">soon-to-be released 'Legendary Cars' DLC</a> for <em>Burnout Paradise</em>. <br /><br />Not skimping one bit on the nostalgia factor, the <strike>"GT Nighthawk"</strike> "Cavalry Bootlegger" video employs liberal use of the General Lee horn over a slo-mo jump sequence, though <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9ws2PpDw3o">Doc is unfortunately missing</a> from the "88 Special" video. "Roads? Where we're going, we <em>don't need</em> roads." Peruse our gallery below and then hit the jump for all four videos. That's a command!<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/">Burnout Paradise: Legendary Cars</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273032"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.legendary.003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jansen 88 Special" title="Jansen 88 Special" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273414"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.comparison.001b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jansen 88 Special vs. DeLorean time machine" title="Jansen 88 Special vs. DeLorean time machine" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273026"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.legendary.001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Manhattan Spirit" title="Manhattan Spirit" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.comparison.002b_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Manhattan Spirit vs. Ecto-1" title="Manhattan Spirit vs. Ecto-1" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars/#1273024"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/01/burnout.legendary.002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Carson Nighthawk" title="Carson Nighthawk" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>See what you'll be ruining in Burnout's new DLC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/">See what you'll be ruining in Burnout's new DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 Feb 2009 16:45:00 EST. Criterion Games has <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=402">officially announced</a> the price for the upcoming <em>Legendary Cars DLC</em> for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Burnout-Paradise/">Burnout Paradise</a></em>. Gamers who hunger for choice can download each vehicle separately or together in a discounted package when they <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars-coming-feb-19/">release on February 19</a>. The Jansen 88 Special (you know, the not-so-subtle nod to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/see-burnouts-jansen-88-special-fly-into-action/">DeLorean</a>) is priced at $3.99 / 320<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />, while each of the other three vehicles clock in at $1.99 / 160<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> a piece. The <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legendary-cars/">Legendary</a></em> bundle will also be available for a discounted price of $7.99 / 640<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />.<br /> <br /> We know your first reaction would be to get upset that the obvious favorite in the package is priced slightly higher. Think of it as a glimpse into the future. Flying cars are going to be <em>hella</em> expensive. Don't even get get us started on the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGlrobvb-ao">time traveling</a> or air conditioning options -- we still don't know how those packages aren't on the base models.<br /><br />[Update: Originally we listed the Legendary Cars pack at 600<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />; however, the price is $7.99 / 640<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" />]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars-priced/">Burnout Paradise 'Legendary Cars' priced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 09:20:00 EST.
