Deadpool will team-up with Cable, who is designed to balance out the merc's insanity with some straightforward brute force and telepathy, Rob Liefeld writes. He would know, since he created both characters.

Cable is the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey's clone, and he has telepathic and telekinetic abilities. He appeared in a 50-issue series with Deadpool, so they're like old chums by now. Think buddy-cop movie, but with more sarcasm. And techno-organic viruses. Cable joins Domino in Deadpool.

[Thanks, JK Parkin!]
Deadpool reunites with Cable in High Moon game originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 09 Jan 2013 22:00:00 EST. The deal has been finalized between G4-owner NBCUniversal and Esquire-owner Hearst Corporation, according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, and production of new content aimed at a "metrosexual" male audience is said to be underway.

While the channel's new content will feature some gaming-oriented material, subjects such as fashion, cooking and travel will also be covered in an attempt to capture a more sophisticated male audience. As X-Play and Attack of the Show have already been cancelled, we doubt any of G4's late gaming content will be resurrected in the channel's new form. We are, however, looking forward to finding out how to recreate Nathan Drake's designer look for an off-the-rack price.
Report: G4 to become the Esquire channel originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 08 Dec 2012 22:30:00 EST.
Developer Gazillion and Marvel have been showing off some superheroes for the coming MMO Marvel Universe Online, and with the inclusion of Iron Man, we think it's about time you took a good look at these guys. So far, the MMMSociety has released renders of Deadpool, Wolverine, Cable, Captain America, Thor, Thing and Iron Man, all in fairly traditional spandex and ironclad garb. Iron Man, for example, looks a bit like Robert Downey Jr. under that sleek armor design -- trust us, we would know that rear end anywhere.
The presenter also describes the installation process, wherein the U-verse software is installed on the 360 via a CD, a process described as "super-easy." ProTip, AT&T: don't tell us that the installation we have to pay $55 for is "super-easy."

The interface shown in the video looks exactly like the UI for a normal U-verse receiver. The only perceptible difference, of course, is the appearance of Xbox Live notifications.
Following the reveal of Will Wright's reported, user-generated television venture with Current TV, the sporadic game designer has signed a deal with Science Channel, part of the Discovery network, to create original programming with interactive online elements. The Hollywood Reporter describes the partnership as encompassing series and specials for Science covering stupid fun topics like time travel, other worlds and the future. "I want to take the way he engages an audience in gaming and bring that into a show," Science Channel GM Debbie Myers said.

"Gaming is a rich and compelling way to tell a great story," Wright added. "I am so excited to bring that mindset to TV projects."

With that mindset could come Wright's tendency to incubate his projects for prolonged development cycles. Luckily, the proposed topics for his Science shows fit right in with this strategy. Should he ever get that time machine running, Wright could journey back to our time and tell us all about the future. We'd watch that.
Amid complaints of price gouging over the new broadband pricing structure its been testing out in select U.S. cities, Time Warner Cable has announced two new tiers for users with varying internet consumption habits. First, for just $15, you can sign yourself up for a 1GB per month contract, which will ... oh, come on. None of you use under 1GB a month. That's ridiculous. It takes more than 1GB to view our front page, due to our extreme high-def JPEGs.

The other tier of interest is the 100GB plan, which runs users $75 dollars a month. Each additional gigglebyte over that will cost $1, though Time Warner plans on placing a $75 cap on overage fees. Basically, for $150, you get unlimited high-speed internet. A hundy-and-a-half? Man, that's pocket change for us media maven types. We make $150 for every sentence in our posts. Which is good. Money, we mean. We like it. It's great. We're not sure who the market for these things is. On the one hand, every new Xbox 360 comes with an HDMI port built-in. On the other hand, if you've got an older system, it's more or less guaranteed to fail and the system you get back just may have an HDMI port in it. Process of elimination leaves people who've already had their 360 replaced and are left with fully functioning - yet cruelly HDMI-less - consoles, so we'll direct the remainder of this post to that no doubt highly lucrative demographic.

If staring longingly at your pal's HDMI connection has you feeling like less of a man, then consider MadCatz's HDMI Conversion Kit, available in January for the low, low price of $89.99. The device supports resolutions up to 1080p, includes an optical audio port, and comes with both HDMI and optical audio cables. Isn't that worth it for a strong, thick digital video signal?

[Via Engadget]
MadCatz Xbox 360 HDMI Conversion Kit, $90 in Jan. originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 20 Dec 2007 05:00:00 EST. Do you sit at the bare edge of your couch while trying to play PSP games on your TV? Well, I do. And it's annoying. The AV cables for the PSP-2000 might be long enough for some, but for those of you that need a bit more distance between your face and the TV, here's a great solution. Hong Kong company Brando Workshop is offering a 5 foot extension cable that attaches to your current PSP-2000 AV cable. It costs $10, almost as much as the original cables you purchased -- but hey, this is the kind of problem that only money can solve.

[Via PSP GadgetZ]
It's a good idea: the PSP extension cable originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Dec 2007 21:30:00 EST. Some may say the biggest selling point of the newly redesigned PSP is its ability to output video to the TV. So, why are the cables not available at launch? Questioningly, the PSP-2000 will not get this system-defining peripheral at its launch. In terms of color selection, only Piano Black will be at launch. Ceramic White and Ice Silver seem to be MIA at the moment.

We contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America to see whether or not the AV cables will be available at the US system launch later this year. However, they've yet to return our e-mails. Stay tuned for more.
AV cables not available at UK PSP launch originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Sep 2007 16:00:00 EST. The even freer commercial they made for it! To promote their new offer of a free DS with subscription to a whole bunch of stuff, Comcast hired John Kricfalusi to make a promotional animation. It's quite a bit better than pretty much any cable company commercial we've ever seen, and definitely a lot better than any Flash ad we've seen on a website. That's double what Nintendo charges for its official component cable and six times the cost of other third-party solutions.

Now that component cables for the Wii are in good supply, are prices like that justifiable? We understand that Monster is aiming for the high-end market, but how different can its product be from what others are selling for much cheaper? Ars Technica has a line on a secret source who lets it slip that Microsoft had sent a new SKU for the upgraded unit, which specifies that this cable will be included.

Additionally, the same source says that the cable will be included with the standalone 120GB HDD as well, which hasn't officially been announced yet. Will the cable and the HDD be available in both black and white? We don't want to mess up our precious gaming color scheme. We might see a rise of third-party HDD stickers and skins that'll let you dress that Xbox up in your love.

This will be a huge incentive towards getting existing Xbox owners to either upgrade their unit to the "Elite" model, or to buy the new drive, because no one wants to lose all their picture packs, arcade games, and episodes of Battlestar Galactica. We're just happy to know what we probably won't have to download that Eragon demo again. However, this sounds like one of those "use it once and you're done" items that'll soon be collecting dust in the back of a drawer somewhere, so look for 'em on eBay not long afterwards.
New Xbox 360 and upcoming add-on HDD to include data cable? originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 11:01:00 EST. Yesterday, Ben over at ars technica expressed his concern for how to transfer HDD data from his old 360 to the new Elite 360 if he were to purchase one. Not soon after Ben received a tip from a person who works at a large video game distributor (who wanted to remain anonymous) and divulged an answer to the data transfer problem ... an included cable. The tipster went on to say that,

"MS has told us that the data will be transferred via some sort of cable that will be included with the unit. The cable will also be included w/ the 120GB drive that will be sold separately (price TBD)."

Again, this is a whole basket full of rumor berries, but if it were true would it sway your opinion on a new Elite 360 purchase? A HDD to HDD data transfer cable would be a great accessory anyway and with the release of a 120GB HDD one would think it'd be a no brainer. Or maybe we're all just geniuses.

[Via Digg]
Rumor: Cable to transfer HDD data to Elite 360 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 21 Mar 2007 13:00:00 EST.
A rumor has been circulating that using 3rd party component cables will void the warranty of your PlayStation 3. The origins of this rumor stem from AVS forum poster ragedogg69 who tells this tale but fails to mention what exactly was wrong with his console.

Our phone call to Sony tech support left us with ambivalent answers. Our representative explained that if a third-party cable caused our PS3 to short-circuit then, quite obviously, Sony would see that as the fault of said third-party and not their problem. However, if the problem was seemingly unrelated, such as a failure of the Blu-ray drive, the operator's response became less clear.

The Consumerist dug into the PlayStation 3's warranty and found a clause that rather unclearly states that you assume the liability and risk of using non-Sony products with the console.

We contacted Sony and received the following official statement:

At SCEA, we have the same warranty for PS3 as we have for the other PlayStation platforms. Our Customer Service department will trouble shoot fully to see what the set-up environment is and what may be causing the issues. We are determining more info about this specific instance. In typical situations, video cables would not void the warranty, but each situation is unique.

In other words, buyer beware. Through Froogle we found some first-party PS2 component cables, which are compatible with the PS3, for sub-$20. For that price, you're better off being safe than sorry.

[Via Netjak; thanks to the very many people who sent this in!]
Rumor: 3rd party cables void the PS3 warranty originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 18 Jan 2007 18:25:00 EST. This simple Classic Controller hack fixes it so that the cable comes out of the gamepad the right way. Instead of dribbling out of the bottom of the controller, the cable stands proud, burrowing out of a hole cut into the top.

This is how our controllers have always behaved, and we'd sooner live in caves than game with the cable coming out of the bottom. Classic Controller hacker, Nintendo Gal, we salute you.

[Via digg]
Classic Controller cable where it was meant to be: On top originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 21 Dec 2006 05:55:00 EST. Nintendo says its component cables are on the way, but can you just sit patiently and hope to buy them soon? 480p waits for no one.

The Wii end of the in-the-box cable doesn't have the full pin-outs that make the Xbox 360 cable a delight to mod. But, Macgyver it up a bit -- "acem77" on the NFG Forums used paper clips -- to add new pins. Follow the forum thread or wiki for signal and construction details.

See also: Add VGA to standard Xbox 360 cable

[Thanks, Vince Vu]
Make a Wii component cable originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 22 Nov 2006 09:30:00 EST. And those are two great tastes that taste great together; Engadget shows how to make an Xbox 360 VGA cable out of a lowly composite part.

Unlike the PS2 and GameCube, the Xbox 360 cables include every pin -- even the ones not used by the cable-specific video connection. Because these pins already connect to the console, it's just a matter of wiring a VGA socket to the previously-unused terminals.

Total cost? $7. Get out the soldering iron, and save your money for games.

See also: PSA: Use the right cables for your TV
Add VGA to standard Xbox 360 cable originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Nov 2006 17:55:00 EST. So, what does the Consumer News and Business Channel have to say about video games in Game On! The Unauthorized History of Video Games?

We're expecting the usual history lesson (Tennis for Two, Spacewar, Yo! Noid ... the classics) combined with lots of big numbers, regaling viewers with tall tales of how video games outsell movies (not really true ... box office only, folks). They do promise that "the program also includes riveting stories about the corporate power struggles that won (and lost) billions and how a single blunder helped destroy Atari's $2 billion-a-year-empire." So, maybe you'll learn something or, more importantly, maybe someone who doesn't know anything about video games (beyond MSFT and SNE) may catch the show on Wednesday, November 15th at 9 PM and 12 AM ET -- or even the rebroadcast on Sunday, November 19th at 9PM and 12AM ET -- and reconsider video games. They do outsell movies, y'know.
TiVo Alert: History of video games on CNBC originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 09 Nov 2006 09:25:00 EST. (I say occasionally; please hold off on the "my local EB Games employee told you the Wii was coming out December 17th" tips.) A quick search of Gamestop's online store in the accessories section yields some interesting results, shows as follows:

Wii Controller Glove 9.99
Wii G-Pak Travel Case 29.99
Wii Game Wallet 9.99
Wii HD Premium Component Cable 59.99
Wii Memory SD 1.0GB 59.99
Wii Memory SD 512MB 39.99
Wii S-Video Premium AV Cable 39.99
Wii Sling Bag 29.99
Wii Storage & Protection 1.0GB Kit 69.99

We knew about the Power Glove, but the SD cards just seem like a convenient excuse for Gamestop to take people's money; the prices are quite high. The premium component cable is insanely expensive, but hey, it's premium. Other than that, your classic game-toting sling-bag take-it-anywhere-but-not-really-because-no-one-ever-does-that accessories are on the list. With the immediate need for extra controllers, memory, and games at launch, is anyone going to pick up any of these other things?

[Thanks, Randy!]

[Update 1: Clarified that the SD cards are not officially from Nintendo, and realized that you can in fact get SD cards for far cheaper.]
Wii accessories list, courtesy of Gamestop [Update 1] originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 07 Sep 2006 09:00:00 EST. Is it an expensive adapter that automagically goes from the bulky 360 AV connector to an HDMI output? Feel free to entertain such a possibility, so long as you remember that Microsoft wants nothing to do with it. After constantly pestering them for a comment, they informed us that the product was not one of theirs and that "Microsoft has not announced any additional support beyond component video for HD output. MS is watching the market closely and they will continue to evaluate any options in the face of consumer demand."

Unless the face of consumer demand becomes crumpled in a furious frown regarding the lack of HDMI support, don't expect this retail listing (and they're usually so reliable!) to signify a change in Microsoft's strategy. Back in July, when handed the rumor of a new Xbox 360 equipped with an HDMI port, Microsoft promptly tossed it away and insisted that "you don't need HDMI for HD gaming." We fully expect the HDMI rumorang to return again sometime in the future -- catch it here when it does.

[Via Digg, Xbox Evolved. (Hint: the obvious alterations concern high-def output and wireless connectivity -- though Bluetooth controllers should work just fine with both, with or without any chrome case highlighting.)

So what's HDMI, built-in multimedia card-reader slots, wireless internet connectivity, and an extra 40 gigabytes' hard disk space worth to you? $100? Now that Sony's gone with the 2-SKU approach with its next-gen hardware (a la the Xbox 360's premium and "Core" systems), we can expect some tough consumer choices after six months -- with console shortages possibly for another six months after that -- as $100 separates the base $499 and premium $599 versions of Sony's "Clear Black" hope.

HDMI is important to those who want to take full advantage of Blu-ray high def and have the new screens to use it; MemoryStick, SD, and CompactFlash slots would be nice for the PS3 memory-card users and those will run multimedia on the system; Wi-Fi's the only way to avoid stringing ethernet cables for online access; and 360 owners might appreciate the full 60GB available to potential buyers of the premium PS3 model. Neither model comes with a second HDMI port; thankfully, one should hopefully be all most users need. The details are laid out in a feature-comparison table at the end of Sony's official PS3 hardware press release, available in both Adobe Reader and Microsoft Word formats. As you can see above, the PS3 graphics demo unit used a standard AV Multi-Out connector whilethe "two HDMI ports right below the AV Multi-Out port were unused." TGD apparently offered to lend Sonyofficials an HDMI cable of their own to connect to the system, but they were turned down.

Of course, there'salso a conflicting pic which Chris Grant took for us on Joystiq Central that seems to show that very HDMI connectionbeing used, probably with another unit. (Scroll down to the second pic here to see it.) So what's the real story? Was Sony lacking enough updated HDMI 1.3 hardware and/or 1.3-compatible TVs to show off the HD goods, or were theysimply short on cables? Maybe their budget was a bit tight for GDC (what with Phil's focused keynote andabundance of GDC sessions from Sony), so hopefully we'll see everything hooked up nice and tidy for E3.

[Thanks, Michael, Racky, pheen, and DocEvil; via TechSpot and CD Freaks]
HDMI issues at GDC?
