<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a> launches this week and Capcom has promised some DLC. It starts on June 4 with the Resistance and Enhancement sets for 160 MS Points ($2), each including six different weapon upgrades. Then, on June 11, Capcom will issue two additional characters for use in Raid mode: Rachel Ooze and Lady Hunk. Each character costs 240 MS Points ($3).<br />
<br />
<em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em> is a remake of the 3DS game bearing the same name launched by Capcom in early 2012. Bridging the story between <em>Resident Evil 4</em> and <em>Resident Evil 5</em>, <em>Revelations</em> follows series regulars Jill and Chris, and takes place aboard a derelict cruise liner called the SS Queen Zenobia. A free <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/resident-evil-revelations-demo-dated-for-may-14/">demo</a> has been available to all on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and Steam since last week.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-5-20-13/">Resident Evil: Revelations (5/20/13)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-5-20-13/#5894254"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/ladyhunk001bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-5-20-13/#5894255"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/ladyhunk002ui0bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-5-20-13/#5894256"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/ladyhunk006bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-5-20-13/#5894257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/rachelooze001bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-5-20-13/#5894258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/rachelooze002ui0bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/resident-evil-revelations-dlc-characters-upgrades-outlined/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Resident Evil: Revelations DLC characters, upgrades outlined</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/20/resident-evil-revelations-dlc-characters-upgrades-outlined/">Resident Evil: Revelations DLC characters, upgrades outlined</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 May 2013 13:30:00 EST. The original soundtrack for <em>Mega Man 5</em> is now available for $8.95 on Capcom's <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1944700/productID.281373700/Mega-Man-5-Official-Soundtrack.html?resid=UV9foAoBAlgAAANGKc8AAAA8&amp;rests=1368913879766">official shop</a>; it's almost as if they planned its release to coincide with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/new-nintendo-eshop-releases-super-metroid-super-ghouls-n-ghos/">debut</a> of <em>Mega Man 5</em> on the 3DS Virtual Console. What a weird coincidence!<br />
<br />
At 57 hot jams long, <em>Mega Man 5</em>'s soundtrack was composed by Mari Yamaguchi, who was often credited mononymously (as "Mari") for her work at Capcom. She also composed the music for <em>Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts</em> and several of the songs on the <em>Breath of Fire</em> soundtrack, in addition to handling arrangement duties for the TurboGrafx-16 version of <em>Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition</em>. Yamaguchi returned to the Mega Man franchise in 2010, penning the stage theme for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/mega-man-10"><em>Mega Man 10</em></a>'s Sheep Man.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/18/mega-man-5-ost-busts-into-the-capcom-store/">Mega Man 5 OST busts into the Capcom Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 May 2013 22:30:00 EST. The upcoming console/PC iteration of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a> will include a trio of confusing new costumes for Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Keith Lumley, Capcom has <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2013/05/14/pirate-jill-and-chris-ninja-keith-costumes-unlockable-in-revelations">announced</a>. As can be seen in the gallery, Jill and Chris both sport equally leggy nautical-themed outfits, while Keith channels his inner <a href="http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Roronoa_Zoro">One Piece character</a> as a shirtless sword-guy in hammer pants.<br />
<br />
Costumes are unlocked by playing through the game's Campaign and Raid modes, in addition to "other unlocking mechanisms" that Capcom is keeping a secret. We're just hoping Capcom eventually rides this train of thought all the way to its logical extreme: Pretty Soldier Sailor Claire Redfield.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/">Resident Evil: Revelations (New costumes)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/#5889664"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/976924587353061285585720603118o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/#5889662"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/96490858813059787449856113012o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/#5889663"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/9198585873530712855841241595201o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/18/resident-evil-revelations-adds-pirate-jill-sailor-chris-ninja/">Resident Evil: Revelations adds Pirate Jill, Sailor Chris, Ninja Keith</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 May 2013 18:00:00 EST. <br />
Ahead of <em>Arrested Development</em> blue-ing up on screens once more when the fourth season arrives <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2013/apr/04/arrested-development-netflix-may-26">later this month</a>, Netflix released a sizzle reel (below the break) for the sitcom's hapless actor wannabe Tobias F&uuml;nke. As ever, Tobias' awkward choice of words is the star of the show, but the <em>Jumpman</em> cameo is a very close second.<br />
<br />
That'd be pretty tenuous to post on its own, but thankfully Capcom stepped in and gave us the perfect excuse. Responding to Tobias' call in the sizzle reel - "Insert me anywhere!" - Capcom did just that with a selection of its classic games. And now we want a Mega Man game with Dr F&uuml;nke as the villain. Make it happen, universe.<br />
<br />
Also, we got this far without making the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/18/capcom-adjusts-forecasts-following-canceled-games-revises-strat/">obvious gag</a>. <a href="http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lwuhjeD9i01qbbk61o1_400.gif">Huzzah</a>!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/capcom-inserts-arrested-developments-tobias-funke-everywhere/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Capcom inserts Arrested Development's Tobias Fünke everywhere</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/capcom-inserts-arrested-developments-tobias-funke-everywhere/">Capcom inserts Arrested Development's Tobias Fünke everywhere</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. This week, Bob returns to the world of Monster Hunter.</p>

<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/powering-beyond-one-hundred-hours-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/10/ultimatewiiuscreen.jpg" /></a></div>
Since I don't play MMOs, it's a rare occasion to see the timer on any of my games roll past that magical 99:59 mark. Still, it's happened more times than I'd like to admit; whenever an especially deep or content-rich RPG hits me during a particularly inactive time in my life, I'll focus on it and it alone. Since I've chosen a career path laden with vast periods of inactivity, RPGs <em>Fallout 3</em>, the Persona and Dragon Quest franchises, and <em>Dark Souls</em> have done a fine job of soaking up free time that would have otherwise gone to waste on frequent power naps or community service.<br />
<br />
Chalk it up to fate if you want, but <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Monster-Hunter-3-Ultimate/">Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</a></em> found me in the familiar condition of "nothing better to do," and for the past six weeks, Capcom's hardcore action-RPG has given me a whole new set of complex mechanics and arcana to obsess over with thousands of my fellow monster-hunting fans. Now that I've reached that monumental 100-hour mark, it's time to ask myself one question: Did I invest my time wisely?<br />
<br />
Short answer: no, but I'll save regrets over playing too many video games for my death bed.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-1-17-13/">Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (1/17/13)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-1-17-13/#5579412"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/mh3ghdwiiumultiplay009bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-1-17-13/#5579413"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/mh3ghdwiiumultiplay010bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-1-17-13/#5579414"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/mh3ghdwiiumultiplay011bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-1-17-13/#5579415"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/mh3ghdwiiumultiplay012bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-1-17-13/#5579416"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/mh3ghdwiiumultiplay013bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/powering-beyond-one-hundred-hours-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Powering beyond 100 hours in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/powering-beyond-one-hundred-hours-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/">Powering beyond 100 hours in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 16:30:00 EST. Capcom VP Christian "Sven" Svensson has shed some light on why <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/phoenix-wright-dual-destinies"><em>Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies</em></a> is destined solely for the 3DS eShop in the west. Responding to users on the <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/29928019/dear-capcom-please-reconsider-digital-only-for-ace-attorney-5?post_num=13#532242829">Capcom-Unity forums</a>, Svensson stated that while he understands "the value" of owning a physical copy of a game, "it is a sign of the times that increasingly our business is going digital and not everything is going to be in both formats."<br />
<br />
"Not every game is appropriate for both formats given the economics involved," he wrote, pointing to games like <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/darkstalkers-resurrection"><em>Darkstalkers Resurrection</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-4-hd"><em>Resident Evil 4 HD</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/okami-hd"><em>Okami HD</em></a>, which were released physically in Japan but digitally in the west. "Their COGS (costs of goods sold) and retail margins and reserve issues are entirely different there given the market differences," wrote Svensson. "It's a sad fact, but it's still a fact."<br />
<br />
He added Capcom's US operation "worked very hard" to see <em>Dual Destinies</em> released in the west. "If we'd said 'no, it's not coming', it would have triggered the inevitable 'please bring it to eShop, at least' cries. Instead we shortcutted that and brought it straight to eShop."<br />
<br />
In other gavel-banging news, a playable <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/gyakutensaiban/5/trial/index.html">browser demo</a> of <em>Dual Destinies</em> is now available on the game's Japanese website. Just make sure your Kanji is up to snuff if you hope to make heads or tails of it. Finally, <a href="http://gematsu.com/2013/05/ace-attorney-dual-destinies-japanese-web-demo-launched">Gematsu</a> reports that the latest Famitsu confirms that both Miles Edgeworth and Trucy Wright will make a return appearance in the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/capcom-vp-explains-why-ace-attorney-dual-destinies-is-eshop-onl/">Capcom VP explains why Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is eShop only, Japanese demo now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 14:30:00 EST. Those cautiously curious to see how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a> translates to bigger screens can try out a demo on May 14 from the Xbox Live Marketplace, Wii U eShop, Steam, and PlayStation Network. On the Wii U, that translation includes touchscreen integration, off-TV play, and some Miiverse extras too.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/resident-evil-revelations-demo-dated-for-may-14/">Resident Evil: Revelations demo dated for May 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 May 2013 09:45:00 EST. Who could possibly want a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/24/heres-that-mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue/">statue</a> to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mega Man when you know that somewhere out there a Blue Bomber-adorned NES exists? Ryan Fitzpatrick (aka Platinumfungi) created this one-of-a-kind blue NES, which features a backlit Mega Man on top of the case with a rather slick paint job.<br />
<br />
Fitzpatrick has a bunch of photos of the system on his <a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.517465208290043.1073741828.305139316189301&amp;type=1">Facebook</a> page. One issue we have is that it just wouldn't feel right to play any NES game on it that isn't the best Mega Man game ever, <em>Mega Man 2</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/09/this-backlit-mega-man-25th-anniversary-nes-has-style/">This backlit Mega Man 25th anniversary NES has style</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 May 2013 23:59:00 EST. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-6">Resident Evil 6</a></em>, Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/01/resident-evil-6-review/#review">flagship of horrors</a> for the fiscal year concluding March 31, 2013, certainly has "plateaued," as Capcom put it in today's <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e130508b.html">results</a>. The game, which launched in October of 2012, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/04/resident-evil-6-ships-over-4-5-million-copies-worldwide/">shipped over 4.5 million units at the time</a>. The company announced today the game sold 4.9 million units. Comparatively, <em>Resident Evil 5</em> has sold <a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html">6.1 million units</a>.<br />
<br />
"As a result, [Resident Evil 6] did not meet with our projection," the company's statement reads. "In contrast, <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma">Dragon's Dogma</a></em> became a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/30/capcoms-quarterly-earnings-strong-on-dragons-dogma-social-gam/">greater-than-expected hit product in the domestic market</a>, which has high profitability, and became an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/25/capcom-ships-over-a-million-copies-of-dragons-dogma/">unprecedented million seller</a> in the recent years as an original title."<br />
<br />
Overall, Capcom sales were up 14.6 percent for the year to &yen;94.07 million ($950M), with net income down to &yen;2.97 million ($30M), which is a decrease of 56 percent from last year. Capcom expects this year to be similar in revenues, but hopes to bring that profit back to the 2012 level. This year's line-up includes <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/remember-me/">Remember Me</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/lost-planet-3">Lost Planet 3</a></em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/08/capcom-year-end-results-sales-up-profit-down-resident-evil-6/">Capcom year-end results: sales up, profit down, Resident Evil 6 failed to meet projections at 4.9M</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 May 2013 10:45:00 EST. Defying our understanding of neurology, memory can be found in the heart and soul of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/remember-me"><em>Remember Me</em></a>. Manipulating memories drives the action in Dontnod's cyberpunk game, as creative director Jean-Max Morris reminds us in this six-minute synopsis.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/03/remember-me-hacks-our-memories-inserts-this-trailer/">Remember Me hacks our memories, inserts this trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 May 2013 07:00:00 EST. Capcom has taken part in an ongoing observation of Mega Man's 25th anniversary with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/29/mega-man-25th-anniversary-statue-up-for-pre-order/">statues</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/06/mega-man-1-ost-now-available-digitally-through-capcom/">soundtrack releases</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/01/arm-your-computer-with-mega-buster-usb-drive/">USB drives</a>, and even an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/08/street-fighter-x-mega-man-is-a-free-pc-8-bit-crossover-availabl/">officially promoted fan game</a>. As we stretch into year two of the 25th anniversary celebration, Capcom is producing a Mega Man-themed case for 3DS and 3DS XL.<br />
<br />
At first blush, outfitting a 3DS in Mega Man garb seems like a cruel tease, after the death of <em>Mega Man Legends 3</em>. But Capcom is releasing all of the NES Mega Mans on the handheld's Virtual Console (it's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/25/new-nintendo-eshop-releases-rayman-legends-challenges-mega-man/?icid=joystiq_3ds_art">up to <em>4</em> now</a>), making an NES-style Mega Man motif appropriate.<br />
<br />
The case will be on sale at Comic-Con, as well as at Capcom's online store.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/01/capcom-encases-3ds-3ds-xl-in-vintage-mega-man-look/">Capcom encases 3DS, 3DS XL in vintage Mega Man look</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 May 2013 11:00:00 EST. <br />
 <em>Dragon's Dogma</em> vanilla and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen"><em>Dark Arisen</em></a> players alike, take heed. A recent title update for Capcom's fantasy RPG seems to be corrupting save files for some users.<br />
<br />
If you haven't downloaded the update yet, Capcom suggests copying your data to the cloud or an external device before patching the game. Capcom promises to have a solution "as quickly as possible."<br />
<br />
 <em>Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen</em> is an Xbox 360 and PS3 expansion to Capcom's 2012 outing, a retail disc release that includes additional content and a remastered version of the base <em>Dragon's Dogma </em>game. The remastered version of <em>Dragon's Dogma</em> includes a new fast-travel system on top of additional items and gear, but sadly no <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/25/thats-action-baby-dragons-dogmas-surreal-tech-demo/">dancing cyclopes</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/psa-dragons-dogma-and-dark-arisen-title-updates-corrupting-saves/">PSA: Dragon's Dogma and Dark Arisen title updates corrupting saves</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Apr 2013 22:15:00 EST. Moreover<span>, this is an early prototype from </span><em>five years ago</em><span>, when development on </span><em>Dragon's Dogma</em><span> was first underway, and the game still went by its original codename: </span><em>BBS-RPG</em><span>.</span><br /><br />You may have also noticed that this video has no sound, which is more of a legal issue than an effort to enhance the production's already potent hypnagogic qualities. Since Capcom never intended for this video to be distributed to the public, it had to have its uncleared soundtrack removed before the developer could share it with us. If you're willing to have two tabs open, however, we thing we've found an <a href="http://youtu.be/P0CxIJBHBVQ">elegant alternative</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/25/thats-action-baby-dragons-dogmas-surreal-tech-demo/">The surrealistic Dragon's Dogma tech demo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Apr 2013 19:00:00 EST. The upscaled remastering of the three DS games was originally due last fall, but delays took it into early 2013, then April.<br /><br />In a hardly encouraging but certainly candid post on the Ask Capcom forums, Senior VP Christian Svensson said, "For reasons unknown to me, the release has slid another several months to July. Sorry guys."<br /><br />When the free-to-download app eventually arrives, it'll feature <em>Ace Attorney</em>, <em>Justice for All</em>, and <em>Trials and Tribulations</em> as purchasable games within it, both separately and bundled together. It'll also include an 'Everybody Object' mode that lets you email and tweet Phoenix Wright catchphrases via sound files and animated tweets, which by our reckoning would work as its own app, really.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/25/objection-phoenix-wright-trilogy-hd-delayed-again-for-ios-due/">Objection! In a follow-up conference call to last week's financial statement, the company clarified that most of the canceled games were due between April 2014 and March 2015, although a few were scheduled for the current fiscal year ending March 2014.<br /><br />Capcom revised its financial forecasts <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/18/capcom-adjusts-forecasts-following-canceled-games-revises-strat/">last week</a> with a "special loss" of around $73 million, due to those cancellations. The company also announced a switch to more internal development following disappointment with projects outsourced overseas.<br /><br />Asked if the company was considering reducing "the number of development lines for home video games," Capcom said developing for that market is still the core element of its strategy. Even if packaged software sales drop, the company said it believes console and online (such as DLC) sales will continue to increase.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/capcom-none-of-the-canceled-games-had-been-announced/">Capcom: None of the canceled games had been announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 18:15:00 EST. And while I can't comment on the final product - or even a portion of it - there's no denying that the devs at WayForward know how to put together a solid platformer, with the same expressive, 2D graphics that drew so many of us to the medium back in the 8-bit days.<br /><br />Barring the impossible scenario of reuniting the original game's tiny team (none of whom still work at Capcom some 24 years later), it's hard to think of a more appropriate match than WayForward meets <em>DuckTales</em>.<br /><br />Still, when dealing with such a compact and complete package like Capcom's unassuming 1989 classic, the smallest tweak or change could result in a total upheaval of the experience that renewed hurtful Scottish stereotypes for a generation of Nintendo-addicted children. To assuage my fears, I recently spoke with three key members of the <em>DuckTales Remastered</em> team about reviving that special brand of Capcom/Disney magic for our modern world.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/ducktales-remastered-wayforward-interview/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rebuilding Scrooge's money bin: WayForward dives into DuckTales Remastered</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/ducktales-remastered-wayforward-interview/">Rebuilding Scrooge's money bin: WayForward dives into DuckTales Remastered</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 16:45:00 EST. From the intoxicating notion that it could come at any time while travelling the world of Gransys to the corpses that litter an area once you've torn through it, death permeates the narrative like a foul odor. <span>The punishing difficulty ensures defeat in most cases, making it an absolute certainty that a restart will be necessary at least once. That same frustration, however, is what attracted the droves of players to Capcom's open-world RPG in the first place.</span><br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen"><em>Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen</em></a> ups the ante by introducing Death personified. The austere world of </span><em>Dark Arisen</em><span> is a meaty expansion pack that serves up a substantial amount of new material, opening up welcoming arms to veterans and enticing new players with what will inevitably be billed as the definitive </span><em>Dragon's Dogma</em><span> experience.</span><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen/">Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen/#5590253"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/dddaelderogre01bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen/#5590254"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/dddaelderogre02bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen/#5590256"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/dddaelderogre03bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen/#5590257"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/dddaelderogre04bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen/#5590258"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/dddaelderogre05bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/23/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen-review-cheating-death/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen review: Cheating Death</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/23/dragons-dogma-dark-arisen-review-cheating-death/">Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen review: Cheating Death</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Apr 2013 13:30:00 EST. This week Mackey discusses his evolving thoughts on <em>Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em>.</p>

<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/19/no-decision-too-trivial-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/04/xmh3u.jpg.pagespeed.ic.3i6EBQ7VHv.jpg" /></a></div>
It's only been a few weeks, but I can't help but feel a little ashamed of my last Joystiq post about <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Monster-Hunter-3-Ultimate/">Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</a></em>. Reading it from my current, semi-experienced perspective, the piece feels like an excited first-grader telling a long and involved story about learning to tie his shoes. To be fair, my revised take on things comes from a slightly embarrassing wealth of invested time; I've sunk 30 additional hours into the game since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/05/breaking-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate-before-it-breaks-me/">my initial column</a>, and when I sat down to write about learning the ropes of <em>MH3U</em>, I'd barely hunted monster one.<br />
<br />
Looking back at the knowledge I picked up since then, and the numerous intricacies I've yet to figure out, it dawned on me why<em> Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate </em>has made every other game in my presence go completely neglected. Capcom has refined its specific brand of action-RPG into a trial-by-fire experience that requires constant hypothesizing and experimenting - pure brain candy for us unlucky folks whose minds crave constant stimulation.<br />
<br />
Of course, you don't have to take it from me; real academic-type people have picked up on this same value of playing video games - even if said people haven't necessarily jumped on the Monster Hunter train yet. When I taught a college writing course during my grad school days, I used James Paul Gee's <em>What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy</em> (yes, all academic book titles must be this clunky by law) to inform groups of mostly bored 18-year-olds about how gaming can actually increase our problem-solving skills.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-2-14-13/">Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (2/14/13)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-2-14-13/#5639183"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/mh3u-baleful-gigginoxwiium003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Wii U" title="Wii U" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-2-14-13/#5639184"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/mh3u-baleful-gigginoxwiium005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Wii U" title="Wii U" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-2-14-13/#5639185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/mh3u-sand-bariothwiium001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Wii U" title="Wii U" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-2-14-13/#5639186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/mh3u-sand-bariothwiium003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Wii U" title="Wii U" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-2-14-13/#5639187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/02/mh3u-sand-bariothwiium005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Wii U" title="Wii U" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/19/no-decision-too-trivial-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>No decision too trivial in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/19/no-decision-too-trivial-in-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/">No decision too trivial in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Apr 2013 17:30:00 EST. The new <a href="http://mho.qq.com/main.shtml"><em>Monster Hunter Online</em></a> also diverges from the rest of the series in that it uses CryEngine 3 instead of one of Capcom's own engines. The company said it's making more of its game development internal due to a drop in quality from an "excessive" outsourcing of projects, this leading to the cancellation of certain games in development overseas.<br /><br />Capcom also said it's aiming to "strengthen digital strategies" via increased DLC output. The company also wants its development and marketing divisions to be more in sync after noting "insufficient coordination" overseas.<br /><br />Despite the restructuring loss announced today, Capcom forecasts a net profit for the fiscal year (which ended March 31) of &yen;2.9 billion (around $29.5 million), thanks to strong sales from its <em>Resident Evil 5</em> slot machine. The company also noted its shipping forecasts are largely in line with the revisions announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/04/dmc-devil-may-cry-shipped-1-million-in-january-forecasts-slash/">earlier this year,</a> with <em>DmC: Devil May Cry</em> expected to come in at 1.15 million, and <em>Resident Evil 6</em> at 4.9 million.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/18/capcom-adjusts-forecasts-following-canceled-games-revises-strat/">Capcom adjusts forecasts, cancels games, revises overseas strategy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Apr 2013 08:00:00 EST. This week Mackey discusses the recently revealed DuckTales revival.</p><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/11/ducktales-remastered-runs-on-more-than-nostalgia/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/duck.jpg" /></a></div>Game designer Warren Spector's preoccupation with Mickey Mouse ranks up there with some of the more notable wastes of time in recent memory. You can't say Spector didn't have his heart in the right place, though; while much of his love for Disney's mascot seems to be informed largely by his generation's exposure to the character as more than just a soulless corporate brand, both of Junction Point's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Epic-Mickey/">Epic Mickey</a> games carried forth the noble mission of teaching a new generation about Disney's often-overlooked catalog of animated shorts.<br /><br />I found myself on board after hearing the premise of Spector's original <em>Epic Mickey</em>, mostly because Disney held nearly all of their shorts hostage on a premium cable channel during my childhood. If I wanted to soak up knowledge about the studio's earlier works, why not do it in Spector-engineered video game form?<br /><br />According to critics and consumers, the experiment didn't turn out so well. Epic Mickey didn't aspire to greater heights than "competent N64 platformer," and gamers regarded the series as such. Tragically enough, Spector had been sitting on a much better - though not necessarily more popular - property while developing Epic Mickey: Disney's <em>Uncle Scrooge</em> comics, best known to children of the '80s as the animated adaptation DuckTales.<br /><br />Spector had written for the newly launched DuckTales comic between Epic Mickey installments, and during a PAX Prime 2012 interview, I managed to sneak in a few questions that confirmed his interest in making a game that starred Disney's crankiest curmudgeon. The updated version of <em>Revelations</em> hits Steam on May 20, but the more people that buy it before the launch date, the more goodies everyone can enjoy, with three reward tiers unlocked by pre-order numbers.<br /><br />Tier one is already unlocked, meaning everyone who pre-orders on Steam will get an art book and 13-song soundtrack when the game launches. Next up is tier two, a free copy of 2007's <em>Lost Planet: Extreme Condition</em> that Capcom will distribute shortly after that pre-order goal is reached. Tier three promises "more weapons and more characters" for Raid mode, with four pieces of additional content to be revealed after the game's launch, all part of the Season Pass.<br /><br />There's no word yet if these pre-order bonuses apply to console versions of <em>Revelations</em> as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/10/resident-evil-revelations-pre-order-perks-reveal-season-pass-on/">Resident Evil Revelations pre-order perks reveal season pass on Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 23:00:00 EST. Armature prototyped it in early 2010, Polygon's sources said. The site has five videos of the unreleased game, along with several gameplay details.<br /><br />Perhaps Mega Man didn't need this "gritty" reboot treatment, but on the other hand, it would have been a <em>game</em>, which is an increasingly rare thing to happen in that series.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/armature-studio-worked-on-an-unreleased-mega-man-x-fps-maveric/">Armature Studio worked on an unreleased Mega Man X FPS, 'Maverick Hunter'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Apr 2013 11:45:00 EST. A Kickstarter campaign for the live-action series has launched and is seeking &pound;625,000 (around $950,000), for a planned debut this coming winter.<br /><br />The Kickstarter campaign is of note because these guys produced quite arguably the best three minutes of live-action <em>Street Fighter</em> footage on the planet with their fan-film, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/07/street-fighter-legacy-is-the-best-three-minutes-of-street-fighte/"><em>Street Fighter: Legacy</em></a>. As with any Kickstarter campaign, there are several different tiers - like the crazy &pound;5,000 level, which guarantees you Ryu, Ken, Akuma or Gouken's sweaty costume once filming has completed, or a chance to hang out during the filming of an episode.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/street-fighter-assassins-fist-looks-to-kickstarter-for-funding/">Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist looks to Kickstarter for funding</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Apr 2013 08:30:00 EST.
