Regardless of how our world decides to end, we'd all like to be secure in the knowledge that our gaming consoles will survive. Calibur11's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/07/calibur11-vault-eyes-on-protecting-your-xbox-from-tactical-nuke/">"Vault" case mod</a> for the Xbox 360, which was formally unveiled on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ces-2011">CES 2011</a> show floor, should serve that ever-important purpose quite well.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/08/calibur11-vault-case-mod-protects-your-360-from-the-apocalypse/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Calibur11 Vault case mod protects your 360 from the apocalypse</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/08/calibur11-vault-case-mod-protects-your-360-from-the-apocalypse/">Calibur11 Vault case mod protects your 360 from the apocalypse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Jan 2011 21:30:00 EST. Most people who order 5 gallons of mineral oil are looking to help a constipated horse make a BM. Not this dude: He used the stuff to create one of the most impressive PC case mods we've ever seen.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/09/bioshock-pc-case-mod-proves-utopia-is-not-underwater/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Stunning BioShock PC case mod proves utopia is not underwater</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/09/bioshock-pc-case-mod-proves-utopia-is-not-underwater/">Stunning BioShock PC case mod proves utopia is not underwater</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 09 Oct 2010 12:30:00 EST. It's likely your computer already hates you, what with all those Clay Aiken tracks and Joanie Loves Chachi episodes you store on the thing's hard drive. So why not allow the outside to properly convey the hatred it has for you on the inside? One <a href="http://www.andafter.org/publicacoes/case-de-computador-do-kratos-god-of-war-_1516.html">individual</a> has done just that -- while simultaneously paying homage to Sony's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/god-of-war">God of War</a> </em>franchise -- all with the Kratos case mod you see above. We'd comment further, but we think the mod is disturbingly close to being a sentient, living Kratos and would you want to piss him <em>slash</em> it off? Yeah, didn't think so. <br /> <br /> Jump past the break for a brief video showing off the mod.<br /> <br /> [Thanks, Regis]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/kratos-case-mod-watches-you-while-you-play-solitaire/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kratos case mod watches you while you play Solitaire</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/kratos-case-mod-watches-you-while-you-play-solitaire/">Kratos case mod watches you while you play Solitaire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 00:00:00 EST. We find it hard to keep from gushing about every <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ben-heck">Ben Heck</a> project, and <a href="http://benheck.com/09-11-2009/new-atari-800-laptop">his latest</a> is no different. Heckendorn crams the inner workings of an Atari 800 (mostly rainbows and <em>magic</em>) into a laptop-style case (much like every other project of his), but what makes this one special is that <em>we want it</em> and <em>we don't have it</em>. <br /><br />Seriously, look at that sweet keyboard. We can totally imagine the siren's song of those keys clicking and clacking as we boot up some <em>Centipede</em>. If the image above only managed to whet your appetite, head past the break for a pair of videos showing it in use.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/video-ben-heck-amazes-with-atari-800-laptop-again/">Engadget</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/ben-hecks-atari-800-laptop-is-800-kinds-of-awesome/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ben Heck's Atari 800 laptop is 800 kinds of awesome</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/ben-hecks-atari-800-laptop-is-800-kinds-of-awesome/">Ben Heck's Atari 800 laptop is 800 kinds of awesome</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Sep 2009 12:30:00 EST. Remember the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/16/creepy-xbox-360-alligator-skin-creeps-us-out/">creepy Xbox 360 alligator case mod</a>? Creator dfw monkie is back again with a brand new mod and <em>this</em> time it's actually related to an Xbox 360 game. The game in question is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gears-of-war-2"><span style="font-style: italic;">Gears of War</span></a> and dfw monkie has put together a <a href="http://forums.llamma.com/viewtopic.php?t=20672">very impressive mod</a>. The mod features raised textures and a glowing <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears of War </span>logo. The only feature we think we would have trouble adjusting to is the glowing <span style="font-style: italic;">red</span> ring of light. How will you know when the Xbox 360 is broken? Will you get the Green Rings of Death? Check out a video of the console in action after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/destroyed-beauty-gears-of-war-case-mod/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Destroyed beauty: Gears of War case mod</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/04/destroyed-beauty-gears-of-war-case-mod/">Destroyed beauty: Gears of War case mod</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 17:30:00 EST. We're usually not ones to post about console case mods of any sort, but we decided to buck that trend today -- namely because no case mod we've ever seen has inspired such <em>fear into our hearts</em>. A forum-dweller by the name of dfw monkie recently posted pictures of his latest monstrosity to <a href="http://forums.llamma.com/viewtopic.php?t=17211">The Llamma's Game Console Forums</a> (instilling a greater fear in us that a Llama-themed 360 is in the works) -- <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/05/16/creepy-xbox-360-alligator-skin-creeps-us-out/">an Xbox 360, covered in the pitch-black skin</a> of a gargantuan alligator that dfw monkie killed <em>with his bare hands</em>.<br /><br />Okay, <a href="http://forums.dfwclan.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&amp;t=6">the crocodilian pattern was created with common crafting supplies</a>, but we much prefer our own <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_vs._Wild">"Man vs. Wild"</a> interpretation of the console's backstory. Martha Stewart-esque origins or no, the final product is still downright <em>unsettling</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/18/feed-your-discs-to-the-alligator-skinned-xbox-360/">Feed your discs to the alligator-skinned Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 18 May 2008 16:30:00 EST. ... in fact, it cannot speak but that hasn't stopped the diminutive mod from winning over the hearts of even the most console-exclusive gamer. Sure, there's not a lot of pixel-power in modder Magnus Persson's tiny 8" cube - a low-power Via Epia EX1500G supplies the brains for the box - but it's got moxie dammit and it would rather die in a fire than become a burden to you. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/21/the-weighted-companion-pc-isnt-bitter-or-anything/">Engadget</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/21/this-weighted-companion-cube-casemod-will-never-threaten-to-stab/">This Weighted Companion Cube casemod will never threaten to stab you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Jan 2008 15:14:00 EST. <br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/29/wii-casemod-makes-a-quick-stop-into-our-hearts/">This</a> <em>Clerks </em>Wii case mod from serial modder Ramon Stokes came straight out of left field, and its sheer randomness <em>delighted</em> us, even though the Metroid Wii above (also by the same chap) remains this blogger's all-time favorite. Alas, yours truly lacks Ramon's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/15/pretty-much-the-best-wii-case-mod-ever/">mad</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/another-rockstar-inspired-console-mod/">skillz</a> (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pritt_stick">Pritt Stick</a> remains a considerable challenge), meaning I'm limited to <em>daydreaming </em>about how my awesome <em>Pilotwings </em>Wii case mod would look. Reader, in my head, it is <em>majestic</em>.<br /><br />What about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/wii-warm-up/">you lot</a>, though? Ramon Stokes is clearly the go-to person when it comes to prettying up the Wii. First, there was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/15/pretty-much-the-best-wii-case-mod-ever/">this Zelda mod</a>, then <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/26/metroid-wii-mod-is-cooler-than-a-blast-from-an-ice-beam/">this Metroid mod</a>, and after that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/13/another-rockstar-inspired-console-mod/">this really great Rockstar mod</a>. Now, he's at it again, this time with a Wii mod commissioned for <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Smith_%28filmmaker%29">Kevin Smith</a> himself. <br /><br />As you can see, the casemod features the four main <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clerks"><em>Clerks</em></a> characters on the front. The back has a View Askew insignia, and the Nunchucks are labeled "Kevin Smith" and "Silent Bob" (though we're not sure how Smith would manage to play as himself and his movie persona at the same time). <br /><br />This beauty was commissioned as a Christmas gift for Kevin Smith, and took about 60 hours to make. Well done, Ramon; you manage to impress us time and time again.<br /><br />More pictures of this mod can be seen after the jump!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/29/wii-casemod-makes-a-quick-stop-into-our-hearts/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wii casemod makes a quick stop into our hearts</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/29/wii-casemod-makes-a-quick-stop-into-our-hearts/">Wii casemod makes a quick stop into our hearts</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 14:30:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.xcmlive.com/cgi-bin/xcmlive/engine.pl?function=viewid&amp;id=RKS000107">Hot Rock Case's</a> digital thermometer keeps track of the internal temp and every four degrees it goes up, the LEDs change colors too. From orange to green to blue, the case is kind of like a color coded warning system. It's quite the interesting idea, but we're not sure what we're supposed to do when our console starts uncontrollably flashing red. What we do know is that calling Microsoft for help isn't going to solve anything, because they sort of look down on things like replacing your 360's case.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&amp;newsid=18514">MAXCONSOLE</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/01/360-custom-case-lights-warn-of-overheating/">360 custom case lights warn of overheating</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Jul 2007 12:30:00 EST. The $62.95 shell comes equipped with a digital thermometer that displays the console's internal temperature, and the LEDs shift with that measurement. Every 5&deg; change pushes their hue towards either a colder or warmer glow, luminescing a light blue at sub-28&deg;C and glaring klaxon red when temperatures over 55&deg;C are detected. <br /><br />If you're paranoid about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/08/does-the-wii-even-get-so-hot-as-to-need-a-cooling-fan/">overheating</a> consoles, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/mods/">mod</a> like this would be perfect for quickly warning you to either shut your system off or execute an emergency saucer separation, putting distance between you and the rest of the starship before the Wii's warp core breaches. Let's all hope it never comes to that. Set a course past the post break, and check out a couple more photos of Team Xtender's ii-Hot Rock case.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/temperature-monitoring-case-mod-for-the-wii/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Temperature-monitoring case mod for the Wii</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/06/temperature-monitoring-case-mod-for-the-wii/">Temperature-monitoring case mod for the Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Jun 2007 11:50:00 EST. This <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mod">mod</a>, which we can't get over just how impressive it is, was sent in by reader Jeremy. His friend created this beauty, which is sitting in Atlanta, GA as we type this, and seeks to sell it for vast amount of monies on Ebay. Jeremy also assures us that a portion of the proceeds are going to be donated to <a href="http://www.childsplaycharity.org/">Child's Play</a>. The sword is even detachable, allowing the winning bidder to act out their desire to be Link (who doesn't want to wield the Master Sword?), as well as possess one of the sweetest looking Wiis in existence.<br />
<br />
As always, if you've spotted a cool mod, feel free to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tips">let us know</a>.<br />

It's called the XCM Diamond case, and is an obvious homage to the "Crystal" Xbox from the previous generation. The clear case also comes with a replacement shell for your controller as well, giving you a clear view into the inner workings of both your console and gamepad. Also available at the site is the <a href="http://www.ncsx.com/2007/011507/x360_opening.htm">step by step</a> case removal instructions, which voids warranty. Unfortuantely, the link for how to install the DCM Diamond case takes you to the same page, so you'll just have to retrace the steps back to the beginning. Still, would any of you consider getting this to pimp out your 360's case?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.topblogposts.com/?p=273">TopBlogPosts</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/25/diamond-360-case-mod/">Diamond 360 Case Mod</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jan 2007 14:00:00 EST. But there are a lot more modded 360s out there created by some talented (and not so talented) people. We found a Flickr <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/59855303@N00/sets/72157594455671602/show/">montage</a> of some unique 360 case mods that you and your peers have completed. It's awesome to see so many people making their 360 personalized and taking on a case mod. Personally, we've claimed defeat to Microsoft and the whole case mod idea. What can we say, we want our warranty to stay in tact. But if you're willing to throw caution to the wind and take the plunge, by all means make your 360 case something special.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.digg.com/mods/Lots_of_Modded_Xbox_360_s_Pictures">Digg</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/03/take-a-look-a-plethora-of-360-case-mods/">Take a look, a plethora of 360 case mods</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Jan 2007 22:00:00 EST. <p>Encouraged by the positive reception and <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=260068957059">high eBay sales price</a> fetched by his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/25/dreaming-of-a-white-ps3/">white PS3 mod</a>, Michal Berecki is expanding the operation to include <a href="http://www.ps3center.net/article-12.html">silver and red system cases</a>. The new colors are still in the concept stage for now, but Berecki has promised the brightly colored PS3s will be on sale in the coming weeks.</p>
<p>We can't help but be tickled by the idea of a home hobbyist filling in a market niche that a console maker seems unwilling or unable to fill. With three colors planned already, the sky's the limit. What kind of designs would you like to see on a future PS3 case?</p>

Yeah, just forget about that, because there's a new case mod on the block and is much sexier. The <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/gears-360-will-make-you-spurt-28164.phtml"><em>Gears of War</em> case mod</a> to the right is not only stylish, sleek, dark, edgy, and friggin' gory (I ran out of adjectives), but makes me want to curb stomp someone. The white ring of light really works, the etching on the side of the case is superb, and overall the craftsmanship rivals that of the HL2 mod. This "first ever" case mod sure looks professional to us but, then again, we're not the case modding experts around here. We suspect the mod's builder may have been anticipating an '06 release for <em>Half-Life 2</em> on the Xbox 360, before the series' second episodic installment was delayed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/24/hl2-episode-two-delayed-till-2007/">until early 2007</a> ... and then again until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/10/hl2-episode-two-delayed-until-summer-2007/">Summer 2007</a>. Now every gaming session will have a brief, but painful, reminder of the title's absence. It'll be okay, just don't make a <em>Duke Nukem Forever</em> case mod ...<br /><br />[Thanks, Macca; via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2006/11/20/combine-fear-the-half-life-2-case-mod/">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/21/this-half-life-2-xbox-360-case-mod-is-way-early/">This Half-Life 2 Xbox 360 case mod is way early</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Nov 2006 11:15:00 EST. We have to say, it's flippin' sweet. Even the lighting in the photograph is topnotch. The left side of the case (at right) features a cut away window with the <span style="font-style: italic;">HL2</span> logo in the corner. The right side features another logo which is raised off the surface of the case. All in all, it's some very impressive work. There is no denying that the <span style="font-style: italic;">Half-Life 2</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/19/see-team-fortress-2-and-portal-in-action/">megapackage</a> coming to the 360 is worth celebrating, but we hope we won't upset PiNPOiNT when we remind him that the game was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/10/half-life-2-delayed/">delayed</a>. Hopefully, his spiffy mod will brighten his days until the game releases this summer. Check out bigger, beefier images after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/combine-fear-the-half-life-2-case-mod/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Combine fear the Half-Life 2 case mod</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/combine-fear-the-half-life-2-case-mod/">Combine fear the Half-Life 2 case mod</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Nov 2006 19:30:00 EST. It's sure to be a hit a parties and attract more fingerprints than an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/19/microsoft-working-on-xpod/">iPod</a> and PSP put together.
<p>As an added bonus, the chrome case goes great with the chrome controller <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/06/05/bling-bling-chrome-shell-now-available/">shell</a>.&nbsp;Anybody plan on picking this up?</p>

As noted by <a href="http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEVpZZAklllHlcrxQY.php">Xbox-Scene</a>, there have been <a href="http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/watercooled/1135950972RZLrIMzkgy_4_3_l.jpg">other</a> -- more <a href="http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/xbox360/watercooled-xboxexpert/DSC01749.jpg">Frankensteinian</a> -- water cooled 360s, but this is the first to be completely internal. All the hardware is inside the case itself. No easy task,&nbsp;to be&nbsp;sure. Dano2k0, creator of the mod, explains his inspiration:
<p><em>"It had been talked about in the past about having a complete internal watercooling system and everyone doubted it would ever be possible due to the lack of space. This is when i got the idea of pulling off the impossible, and it hit my requirements perfect, a completly </em>[sic]<em>&nbsp;portable solution with the cooling needs i was after, in the exact same original sized case."</em></p>
<p>&nbsp;One time, I tried to cool my 360 by pouring water into the disc drive ... it didn't work.</p>

The winning design -- entitled "Black Knight" -- was created by a mysterious individual known only as Hector, and comes in both red and blue LED varieties. <p>Of course, it's no surprise that Hector won:&nbsp;<em>the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Knight_(Monty_Python)">Black Knight</a> always triumphs!</em></p>

There are two different concepts,
one featuring an <a
href="http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/XCM360OceanBlueandCaseConcepts/360concept.jpg">X-shaped cutout</a> in the
side, and the other a <a
href="http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/XCM360OceanBlueandCaseConcepts/x360concept-4.jpg">square</a> (pictured).
A neat idea to save yourself the trouble of spraypainting, and cutting out the plexiglass window. We'd seen
some before and we'll see plenty more. <br /><br style="font-style: italic;" /><span style="font-style:
italic;">Casemods.</span><br /><br />Now, I understand the impetus behind the original Xbox casemodding craze -- the
thing was ugly! Some spraypaint and blue LEDs was about all one could do to make it look like anything but a comically
monolithic, black plastic "X." The 360, on the other hand, is a nice looking piece of gear. It's something
I'm proud to have on my entertainment center. Heck, I don't even like the faceplates, preferring to keep it simple and
clean.<br /><br />That being said, the following casemod is relatively tame. The paint job is nice looking and
thorough; however, the "mod inside" sticker is a little misleading since there is no functioning modchip
(yes, we know about the Team ICE soap opera). A "mod outside" sticker might be more applicable here. <br
/><br />Anyone here disagree? Anyone think the 360 is ugly and deserving of a casemod, or just think that the casemod
aesthetic is better/cooler/whatever? I stand resolute. I think <a
href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/28/inspiration-for-the-design-of-the-360/">Mr. Hayes</a> and his team have
done a fine job.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/17/beauty-and-the-beast-360-case-mods/">Beauty and the beast: 360 case mods</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jan 2006 18:00:00 EST. Full of equal parts epoxy,
plexiglass windows, and blue LEDs, they make LAN party-going geeks drool with jealousy. That's the part where Martin
Smith's beautiful <em>Donkey Kong</em> case mod might not fit in. <br /><br />A 0.5056 scale replica of the original
cabinet, complete with fully functioning controls, coin door, and 10" screen, the Lilliputian case mod is perhaps
a better fit for a one-of-a-kind emulation station; however, with an Athlon XP-M 2500 and an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 256MB
under the hood, it's hardly a slowpoke.
