<br />
CD Projekt RED has released <a href="http://redkit.cdprojektred.com/">REDkit</a>, an official set of tools that allows amateur modders to make <i>The Witcher 2</i> even witchier than ever before.<br />
<br />
REDkit, originally launched as a private beta <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/the-witcher-2-redkit-modding-tools-go-into-beta/">back in August</a>, is a robust toolkit that lets users create new characters and quests within <i>The Witcher 2</i>. If you want to further tweak your mod's fantasy setting, REDkit also allows modders to edit terrain and plant virtual forests using the SpeedTree system. User-created content can be shared with fellow Witcher series enthusiasts at <a href="http://redkit.cdprojektred.com/index.php?c=files">CD Projkt RED's website</a>.<br />
<br />
Would-be modders might want to check out <a href="http://wiki.cdprojektred.com/redkit/">REDkit's wiki</a> before delving too deeply into the REDkit's world of character creation and tree-planting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/the-witcher-2-official-mod-tools-released/">The Witcher 2 official mod tools released</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 13 May 2013 18:30:00 EST. The game tracks player choices to such a minute degree that each of these 36 "endings" contain hundreds of smaller changes unique to each player - CD Projekt Red stopped counting once it reached 300, Managing Director Adam Badowski tells <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/3/26/4146714/the-witcher-3-will-have-three-different-playable-epilogues-driven-by">Polygon</a>.<br /><br />"The game is quite complex," Badowski says. "We didn't mean to develop something special for the endings; it's a natural consequence of the storyline. The story has hundreds of different branches and sub-plots. We have to just sum all of those elements up in the epilogues. Some of those elements are taken from the very beginning and some from other moments of the storyline. All of them will connect in the epilogue."<br /><br />We already know <em>The Witcher 3</em> will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/the-witcher-3-around-50-hours-may-import-saves-from-previous-ga/">clock in</a> around 50 hours, may support previous save files and that CD Projekt has "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/13/cyberpunk-2077-multiplayer-confirmed-in-consideration-for-witch/">something</a>" cooking for multiplayer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/01/the-witcher-3-features-more-than-300-small-variations-in-its-end/">The Witcher 3 features more than 300 small variations in its endings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Apr 2013 21:00:00 EST. That's an approximate machine translation of the original Polish, anyway. A mobile game based on one of those is also planned.<br /><br />In the same time period, CDP will release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-witcher-3"><em>The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</em></a> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/cyberpunk-2077">Cyberpunk 2077</a>.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/cd-projekt-planning-two-smaller-supporting-games-in-2014-16/">CD Projekt planning two smaller 'supporting' games in 2014-16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Mar 2013 18:45:00 EST. Speaking to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-13-cd-projekt-red-says-cyberpunk-2077-will-have-multiplayer">Eurogamer</a>, managing director Adam Badowski said <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/cyberpunk-2077"><em>Cyberpunk 2077</em></a> "will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we're going to add multiplayer features."<br /><br />As Eurogamer notes, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/cd-projekt-red-goes-cyberpunk-in-new-triple-a-rpg/"><em>Cyberpunk 2077</em> doesn't have a pre-defined hero</a>, which maybe makes the game more suitable for multiplayer than CD Projekt's The Witcher series. However, when CD Projekt advertised <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/26/cd-projekt-red-hiring-multiplayer-programmer-for-two-upcoming-rp/">last year</a> it was looking for a multiplayer programmer, it wasn't clear if that was just for its cyber-RPG and not also for the now revealed <em>Witcher 3</em>.<br /><br />CD Projekt's Badowski was coy enough to keep multiplayer a fair possibility for Geralt's third adventure, telling Eurogamer "we're thinking about something."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/13/cyberpunk-2077-multiplayer-confirmed-in-consideration-for-witch/">Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer confirmed, in consideration for Witcher 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 13 Mar 2013 10:30:00 EST. The game will last for approximately 50 hours. Throughout those hours, the world can reach a total of 36 different states, depending on the player's choices. As previously revealed, these choices will also lead to one of three different epilogues.<br /><br />The article also notes that <em>The Witcher 3</em> may import save files from previous Witcher games. Developer CD Projekt Red tells Joystiq that it would like to implement such a feature, though the challenges presented by new hardware could make it difficult. Specifically, considering the game will debut on entirely new consoles, including the PS4 and presumably the next Xbox, such a transfer could be impossible. Still, the developer is looking into the possibility.<br /><br /><em>The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt</em> is slated to arrive next year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/the-witcher-3-around-50-hours-may-import-saves-from-previous-ga/">The Witcher 3 around 50 hours, may import saves from previous games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 13:30:00 EST. In yesterday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-will-be-the-last-witcher-game/">announcement</a> press release, studio head Adam Badowski made what seemed like a pretty definitive statement: "People may ask if this is really going to be the last Witcher game. Yes, it is. Why? Because we believe that we should end the series on a high note."<br /><br /><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-06-screenshots-of-next-gen-rpg-the-witcher-3">Eurogamer</a>, however, recently updated its story on <em>The Witcher 3</em> to say that what Badowski <em>meant</em> was that <em>The Wild Hunt</em> will be the last game in the current Witcher trilogy. Furthermore, CEO Adam Kicinski has stated that the "franchise will be continued."<br /><br />We contacted CD Projekt Red for clarification on the issue. A spokesperson tells Joystiq, "<em>The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt</em> will wrap up the saga of Geralt of Rivia, but we do leave open the possibility of returning to the Witcher world." So there you have it, nothing can kill the Witcher, not even the monster of errant marketing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/the-witcher-3-may-not-be-the-last-witcher-after-all/">The Witcher 3 may not be the last Witcher after all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2013 13:30:00 EST. This final entry in the series is being slated for launch in 2014, a simultaneous launch on "all high-end platforms."<br /><br />In regards to the open world, Badowski says players should expect a game world that is "30 times bigger than <em>The Witcher 2</em>" and its world. Geralt will have his steed to get around or he can hop on a boat and set sail for his destination.<br /><br />CD Projekt Red also promises an improved combat system this time around, though nothing specific is mentioned in the press release past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-will-be-the-last-witcher-game/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the last Witcher game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/05/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-will-be-the-last-witcher-game/">The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the last Witcher game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 13:30:00 EST. Game Informer digital subscribers through Zinio can now access the March issue (seen <a href="http://www.zinio.com/sitemap/Entertainment-magazines/Game-Informer/Mar-13/cat1960014/is-416252335/pg-1">here</a>), which promises <em>The Witcher 3</em> will take place in a world rivaling <em>Skyrim</em> and larger than any environments featured in the first two games.<br /><br />CD Projekt's REDengine 3, which the company has said <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/01/cd-projekt-red-introduces-redengine-3-latest-iteration-of-in-ho/">is built</a> for the next wave of systems, will power <em>The Witcher 3</em> and Geralt's distinguishing beard. Boss Adam Badowski says REDengine 3 is unique because it's able to create and combine a vast game world with player choice-driven stories - he says most RPGs can do either a massive game world or immersive story, but seldom do both well.<br /><br />"With the REDengine 3 we combine the positive aspects of both approaches for the first time, creating an open environment with a complex, multi-thread story. Together with believable characters, a captivating tale and a world where players can roam freely without loading times, we will be able to move gaming to a new level with a realistic feel and full player immersion." The first iteration of REDengine powered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-witcher-2"><em>The Witcher 2</em></a> on PC, while REDengine 2 allowed CD Projekt Red to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/23/deja-review-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings-enhanced-edition/">port <em>The Witcher 2</em> onto Xbox 360</a>. And now with REDengine 3, CD Projekt Red is currently building <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/cyberpunk-2077">Cyberpunk 2077</a></em>, its adaptation of the popular pen-and-paper RPG series.<br /><br /><span>"Cyberpunk 2077, the second project the studio is working on, will have prime examples demonstrating that REDengine 3 is the perfect tool for creating immense universes filled with exciting, nonlinear adventures. The advanced technology of the REDengine 3 makes RPGs comparable to top-shelf shooters, both in terms of game world presentation and the epic proportions of events that the player is drawn into." CD Projekt Red also notes the engine is ready for next-generation consoles and features improved REDkit mod tools, which were first introduced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/the-witcher-2-redkit-modding-tools-go-into-beta/">late last year</a>.</span><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/01/cd-projekt-red-introduces-redengine-3-latest-iteration-of-in-ho/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CD Projekt Red introduces REDengine 3, latest iteration of in-house tech</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/01/cd-projekt-red-introduces-redengine-3-latest-iteration-of-in-ho/">CD Projekt Red introduces REDengine 3, latest iteration of in-house tech</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 01 Feb 2013 15:00:00 EST. Both versions are set in Night City, a gritty, dangerous playground filled with people attempting to survive in a transhumanist world. It's an ideal scenario for a video game, and Pondsmith had offers before CD Projekt Red stepped up.<br /><br />As Pondsmith explains in the above behind-the-scenes video, he chose CD Projekt Red because the team was fanatical about the game and wouldn't try to change the feel of it.<em> Cyberpunk 2077 </em>is a mature version of <em>Cyberpunk 2020</em>, but more expansive, more tactile and more dangerous. Hear what Pondsmith has to say about his franchise going digital above, or just watch it for the beautiful shots of the rainy, nighttime cityscape that inspired the game's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/10/cyberpunk-2077-feels-personally-responsible-in-first-trailer/">first trailer</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/17/cyberpunk-2077-co-creator-talks-source-material-walks-city-stre/">Cyberpunk 2077 co-creator talks source material, walks city streets</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jan 2013 19:15:00 EST. The video introduces the Night City police and the elite takedown force known colloquially as the Psycho Squad, whose duty is to exterminate "psychos," people who take body modification too far and lose their humanity.<br /><br />Psychos overdose on implants and substances until eventually their bodies reject all things biological; they refer to humans as "meatbags" and embark on killing sprees like the one above. The Psycho Squad takes them out when the standard police can't cope.<br /><br />Remember, kids: You're beautiful just as you are, and no amount of giant blades sprouting from your arms will change that. <em>Cyberpunk 2077</em> is slated to drop "when it's ready," as the teaser says.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/10/cyberpunk-2077-feels-personally-responsible-in-first-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cyberpunk 2077 feels personally responsible in first trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/10/cyberpunk-2077-feels-personally-responsible-in-first-trailer/">Cyberpunk 2077 feels personally responsible in first trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 10 Jan 2013 16:30:00 EST. The stream will be available on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/thewitcher">The Witcher Facebook</a> page and on <a href="http://www.gog.com/">GOG.com</a>.<br /><br />CD Projekt RED will announce the official name of its <em>Cyberpunk </em>project, hopefully as something that doesn't sound like a dangling adjective when spoken. Mac users can expect "a bunch of thrilling announcements" and details about <em>The Witcher 2 </em>on OSX. Last we heard, <em>The Witcher 2</em> was scheduled to hit Mac <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/the-witcher-2-conjures-1-7-million-in-sales-coming-to-mac-and-j/">this fall</a>.<br /><br />Modding news may involve the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/the-witcher-2-redkit-modding-tools-go-into-beta/">REDkit mod tools</a> program, which is accepting beta applications through September 30.<br /><br />The Special Event also includes news from GOG.com: GOG will officially announce plans to bring its lineup of classic PC games to "a new operating system," which we can only assume is Gentoo. OK, fine - it's probably OSX.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/25/new-name-for-cd-projekt-reds-cyberpunk-witcher-news-to-strea/">New name for CD Projekt RED's 'Cyberpunk,' Witcher news to stream live Oct. 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 25 Sep 2012 14:30:00 EST. During <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gdc-europe-2012">GDC Europe 2012</a>, CD Projekt Red gameplay producer Marek Ziemak and lead gameplay designer Maciej Szczesnik detailed the process that the developer uses to evaluate any features that could make their way into a project.<br /><br />CD Projekt Red uses a set of internal documents that the studio's employees all have access to. Using these documents, developers can describe their features and the rest of the staff evaluates them. In some cases, staffers even apply numerical values to a proposed feature, with the final "score" affecting the likelihood that a feature will make it into the game. The overarching idea is to fully analyze the risk of a feature and the consequences of implementing it.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cd-projekt-red-gds-europe-2012-talk/">CD Projekt Red GDS Europe 2012 talk</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cd-projekt-red-gds-europe-2012-talk/#5225582"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/img0814-1345575722_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cd-projekt-red-gds-europe-2012-talk/#5225583"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/img0815-1345575724_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cd-projekt-red-gds-europe-2012-talk/#5225584"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/img0817-1345575725_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cd-projekt-red-gds-europe-2012-talk/#5225585"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/img0819-1345575726_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/cd-projekt-red-gds-europe-2012-talk/#5225586"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/img0820-1345575728_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/21/cd-projekt-red-on-killing-your-favorite-features/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CD Projekt Red on killing your favorite features</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/21/cd-projekt-red-on-killing-your-favorite-features/">CD Projekt Red on killing your favorite features</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Aug 2012 20:00:00 EST. Players will be able to change their stats, equipment, implants and more.<br /><br />The role system comes straight from the pen-and-paper <em>Cyberpunk</em>, and "as opposed to the regular fantasy set-up with mages, warriors and archers, we're going for something different," Momot says. "In <em>Cyberpunk</em>, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways."<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Yes, what was first written in the interview as "Shellshock" was supposed to be "System Shock," and CD Projekt Red has altered the text to reflect this. "We want to bring to the team someone experienced in this field to evaluate our concepts and ideas," he said. "He will be one of backbone elements of our R&amp;D."<br /><br />Platkow-Gilewski said the multiplayer programmer is part of CDP's desire to "explore all possible directions, check what would be cool, what's feasible and - always the most important for us - what suits our games the best."<br /><br />In other words, the multiplayer programmer is there to help CD Projekt Red determine whether multiplayer would work in any upcoming games. We hope, for the sake of the person hired for that position, that it ends up working in at least one.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/27/cd-projekts-multiplayer-job-listing-is-research-oriented/">CD Projekt's multiplayer job listing is research-oriented</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Jul 2012 11:30:00 EST. That means a combined 4 million units of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-witcher"><em>The Witcher</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-witcher-2"><em>The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings</em></a> have been sold across PC, Mac and Xbox 360.<br /><br /><em>The Witcher 2</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/21/witcher-franchise-sold-1-5-million-copies-in-2011/">moved 1.1 million copies in 2011</a>, while the original moved 400,000. As of May 2012, <em>The Witcher 2</em> had sold a total of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/the-witcher-2-conjures-1-7-million-in-sales-coming-to-mac-and-j/">1.7 million copies</a>.<br /><br /><em>The Witcher 2</em> will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/the-witcher-2-conjures-1-7-million-in-sales-coming-to-mac-and-j/">expand its reach</a> later this year with the launch of the Japanese Xbox 360 version and a Mac port. Notably, the Tomb Raider collection has actually been "remastered for Windows." The Tomb Raider collection is $10, while <em>Colonization</em> is available for $6. On June 19, indie game <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/tiny_and_big_grandpas_leftovers"><em>Tiny and Big</em></a> will also come to GOG, for $10 ($9 for pre-orders). Finally, GOG.com is hosting a special <a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/resonance">pre-order program</a> for the upcoming indie adventure title, <em>Resonance</em>. Those who pre-order will receive a 10 percent discount and access to a 4 hour playable preview of the game prior to its June 19 launch.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/gog-com-getting-retro-city-rampage-tomb-raider-colonization/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GOG.com getting Retro City Rampage, Tomb Raider, Colonization</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/gog-com-getting-retro-city-rampage-tomb-raider-colonization/">GOG.com getting Retro City Rampage, Tomb Raider, Colonization</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 14:00:00 EST. Specifically, the game has moved 1.7 million copies across the PC and Xbox 360 platforms.<br /><br />The company hopes to sell a few more copies by bringing the Xbox version to Japan. To be published by Spike Chunsoft, the Xbox version of <em>The Witcher 2</em> will arrive in Japan on August 23. Finally, <em>The Witcher 2</em> will be available on Mac this fall. We're guessing you'll <em>probably</em> need a Mac with a dedicated graphics card to actually run it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/the-witcher-2-conjures-1-7-million-in-sales-coming-to-mac-and-j/">The Witcher 2 conjures 1.7 million in sales, coming to Mac and Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 13:36:00 EST. Players will build a character from a series of classes including mercenaries or the cyberpunk-standard "hacker," load that character up with tech implants, and work through a non-linear storyline.<br /><br />A new CDP team, made up of <em>Witcher</em> vets, is working on the game, and staffing up for additional help. There's no release window yet, and it seems early in development, so don't go buy a new video card for it yet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/cd-projekt-red-goes-cyberpunk-in-new-triple-a-rpg/">CD Projekt Red goes 'Cyberpunk' in new 'triple-A RPG'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 May 2012 13:23:00 EST. To see the rest of Rayban's centerfold, you'll need to grab the hoverboard and cruise past the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/29/cd-projekt-red-teases-futuristic-rpg-for-tomorrows-livestream/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CD Projekt Red teases futuristic RPG for tomorrow's livestream</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/29/cd-projekt-red-teases-futuristic-rpg-for-tomorrows-livestream/">CD Projekt Red teases futuristic RPG for tomorrow's livestream</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2012 22:30:00 EST. The game has been spotted in Danish retail listings, specifically a <a href="https://www.coolshop.dk/catalog/product/63793-witcher_rise_of_the_white_wolf_ps3">PS3 listing</a> at CoolShop and both <a href="http://www.blockbuster.dk/the-witcher-rise-of-the-white-wolf-1.html">PS3</a> and <a href="http://www.blockbuster.dk/the-witcher-rise-of-the-white-wolf.html">Xbox</a> listings at Blockbuster. Neither site has a release date listed, though each advises eager fans to place pre-orders now. (If you're looking for a deal, go with CoolShop to save a <em>cool</em> 100 krone.)<br /><br />Witcher fans will remember <em>Rise of the White Wolf</em> as the console-specific version of CD Projekt's first Witcher game. It was slated to feature completely reworked controls for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though the project was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/29/ding-dong-the-console-witcher-is-dead-for-now/">canceled in April of 2009</a>. At the time, developer Widescreen Games complained of missed payments, while publisher CD Projekt claimed that all milestone payments had been made to Widescreen.<br /><br />CD Projekt Red's Summer Conference is slated to take place tomorrow, and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/thewitcher/posts/441741042521561">promises a major announcement</a>. That announcement, however, will <em>not</em> be <em>Rise of the White Wolf</em>, reports <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-05-29-witcher-2-dev-to-reveal-first-details-on-second-triple-a-rpg-tomorrow">Eurogamer</a>. CD Projekt told the site that it will instead be announcing its next RPG, which was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/12/cd-projekt-red-hiring-for-rpg-in-a-brand-new-setting/">revealed</a> in recent job listings. That said, the company does have some Witcher-related "surprises" planned for this year and next year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/29/witcher-rise-of-the-white-wolf-spotted-on-retail-sites-for-xbox/">Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf spotted on retail sites for Xbox, PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 May 2012 11:00:00 EST. "We're looking for people who would rather work on an entirely new and different IP," reads the listing, "a vast RPG for which we want to assemble the best possible staff. It represents an opportunity for you to create a grand new project from the ground up!"<br /><br />The listing also makes reference to the developer's existing "mature dark-fantasy world," distinguishing this new project as likely separate from The Witcher (at least in location), and as one for those who "can't stomach dwarves, elves or sorceresses who put their ample charms on display in Playboy magazine."<br /><br />If you're an artist, programmer or designer looking for work in Poland, give it a shot! There's never any harm in trying. Well, unless you're trying to teach synchronized swimming to an uncooperative bear - there's probably a lot of harm in that.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/12/cd-projekt-red-hiring-for-rpg-in-a-brand-new-setting/">CD Projekt Red hiring for RPG in a 'brand new setting'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 12 May 2012 15:00:00 EST. That's why we invented <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/deja-review">Deja Review</a>: A quick look at the new features and relative agelessness of remade, revived and re-released games.</small></font><hr /><div style="text-align: center; "> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/23/deja-review-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings-enhanced-edition/"><img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/witcherjan26image3_530x330.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; width: 530px; height: 330px; " /></a></div><div style="text-align: left; "> <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-witcher-2"><em>The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings</em></a> has always been a console game in disguise. The PC version remains superior, capable of more clarity and sophisticated effects, but plug in a controller and the Riveting Polish Game transforms into something you'd rather play ensconced in a couch. The "Enhanced Edition" feels authentic and comfortable on the Xbox 360.<br /> <br /> That isn't to say it's been streamlined to a fault. <em>The Witcher 2</em> is a gorgeous, thoughtful and brassy adventure with a surprising number of sharp edges. The original game had a deadly gauntlet for a tutorial, a misstep which got it lambasted while a dragon roasted players again and again. It was frustrating, yes, but it worked as a charming wake-up call of sorts, and as a crucial component of the game's mature personality. To succeed, you must think and do as Geralt of Rivia does, and that's precisely what you want in a role-playing game.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-1-26-2012/">The Witcher 2 Xbox 360 (1/26/2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-1-26-2012/#4776443"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/witcherjan26image1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-1-26-2012/#4776444"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/witcherjan26image2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-1-26-2012/#4776445"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/witcherjan26image3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-1-26-2012/#4776446"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/witcherjan26image4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-1-26-2012/#4776447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/witcherjan26image5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/23/deja-review-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings-enhanced-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deja Review: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition (Xbox 360)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/23/deja-review-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings-enhanced-edition/">Deja Review: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition (Xbox 360)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Apr 2012 09:45:00 EST. The horrifically <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/the-witcher-2-review/#review">painful-to-play opening act</a> of the game, which was a stumbling block for so many, has been tweaked for accessibility and to get players involved in one of the best RPGs in recent memory. His presentation was hinged on how the Polish publisher sold over a million copies of the game on a modest budget.<br /><br />"We release the game. It's cracked in two hours, it was no time for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-witcher-2/">Witcher 2</a></em>. What really surprised me is that the pirates didn't use the GOG version, which was not protected. They took the SecuROM retail version, cracked it and said 'we cracked it' -- meanwhile there's a non-secure version with a simultaneous release. You'd think the GOG version would be the one floating around."<br /><br />"DRM does not protect your game," Iwinski told Joystiq after the presentation. The breakdown is 1.1 million copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-witcher-2">The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings</a> for the year, following its May launch, and another 400,000 sales of the original game, which launched in 2007.<br /><br />"I have to admit, though, that the sales results for The Witcher, five years on from the game's premiere, are remarkable. If anything, they prove that the content we put into our games ages well," said Adam Badowski, head of the CD Projekt RED studio.<br /><br />A surprising statistic about the sequel, given how entrenched we think digital distribution is in PC gaming, is that digital distribution only accounted for 24 percent of the sequel's sales. Digital distribution channels had 270,000 sales of <em>The Witcher 2</em>, with 40,000 of those through the DRM-free GOG.com.<br /><br />The Witcher will also be introduced to new audiences this year when <em>The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition</em> makes its way to Xbox 360 on April 17.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/21/witcher-franchise-sold-1-5-million-copies-in-2011/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Witcher franchise sold 1.5 million copies in 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/21/witcher-franchise-sold-1-5-million-copies-in-2011/">Witcher franchise sold 1.5 million copies in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 Feb 2012 12:30:00 EST. A horse-drawn carriage is pretty much the slowest method of transport ever, but come April 17 his long voyage to the Xbox 360 will have concluded. Warner Bros. has finally announced the official launch date for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/the-witcher-2-review/#review">the highly lauded</a> CD Projekt Red sequel today, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/the-witcher-2"><em>The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings</em></a>.<br /><br />Originally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/the-witcher-2-casting-spells-on-xbox-360/">announced</a> last summer, the title was originally planned to launch on Xbox 360 in 2011, but had to be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/the-witcher-2-xbox-360-delayed-until-q1-2012/">pushed back</a> to early 2012 before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/21/warner-bros-casting-witcher-2-for-xbox-360-in-na/">Warner Bros. signed on</a> to publish.
