Any player confirmed to be using hacked saves, modded games, leaderboard circumvention tactics or other exploits in Max Payne 3's multiplayer will be ceremoniously quarantined in the "Cheaters Pool," which is kind of like jail, but all of the inmates have guns.

The cheaters will only be able to play with other ne'er-do-wells in the pool, but they can be redeemed and re-enter the civilized multiplayer shooter world. However, if they step out of line again, they'll be serving life in the Cheaters Pool.
Max Payne 3 cheaters get thrown into the miscreant quarantine originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 13 Jun 2012 14:00:00 EST. Players who have already dipped into the seemingly infinite world of Skyrim already know the power of words. For instance, a clearly-spoken "Fus" has the ability to send the contents of a meticulously set dinner table into an adjacent room. Despite the strength of your shouts, there's another language that carries even more otherworldly potency: Console commands.

PC Gamer has corralled all the console commands for the PC (duh) version of Skyrim; a codex which includes spells like "sexchange" (which changes your character's gender) and "killall" (which kills all things). Give them a look, provided you're playing the appropriate version of Bethesda's epic RPG, and are also a cheater-cheater-pumpkin-eater.
Skyrim console commands give the unlimited power you crave originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 18 Nov 2011 12:48:00 EST. With the launch of the 25th Anniversary edition of Super Mario All-Stars for Wii drawing near (this Sunday!), you may be seriously tempted to buy all those classic Mario games again for, like -- what? The fourth time? Think again! Not only is the "Limited Edition" Wii game a veritable ROM dump of the SNES All-Stars (which features graphically and musically enhanced versions of the NES games, by 16-bit standards), it's also missing a lot of the great "glitches" from the original games.

TASVideos has assembled a comprehensive guide to the elite tricks and tactics from the original Super Mario Bros. games -- with pictures! Animated pictures. It serves as a stark reminder to us purists why there's really no substitute for the originals, even when said substitute comes in a nifty box.
Super Mario Bros. tricks explained with animated GIFs originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 08 Dec 2010 04:00:00 EST. Over the past few weeks, Sega has been updating its blog with new codes for Valkyria Chronicles 2. These codes can be entered under the "Extras" section on the title screen, and unlock a variety of stickers and characters.
Continue reading Valkyria Chronicles 2 codes collected

Valkyria Chronicles 2 codes collected originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 30 Sep 2010 19:45:00 EST. Rockstar Games has unveiled how it will be using the Rockstar Social Club service for Red Dead Redemption, and cowboys (and girls) looking for a little extra horsin' around won't be disappointed. The Social Club is offering achievements and challenges on top of the game, so, for example, one early mission that has you horsedragging an outlaw around will have a target time, and Social Club members who beat that time will get access to a special "Guns Blazing" cheat that gives your shots the chance to light enemies on fire. There will also be game-wide challenges, including one later this month that will require everyone playing the game to hit a certain amount of money raised, with an Xbox Live or PlayStation Home avatar T-shirt as a prize.

There will also be community news, multiplayer events, special leaderboards and lots of stats tracked on the Social Club website. 100% completion is even "exclusively" in the Social Club, so presumably the only way you'll be able to know that you've done everything the West has to offer is to log on with a Rockstar Games account and find out. Kind of peculiar that information isn't in the game itself, no? At least signing up for the Social Club is free, so if you're planning to ride the plains next week, might as well do it now.
Red Dead Redemption to get Rockstar Social Club exclusive challenges and more originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 11 May 2010 23:00:00 EST. Look, we know the headline kinda endorses cheating and we often err on the less evil side of things, but desperation has left us little choice. It's just that some of us are so damn sick of hearing about how great Griffin's Blissey is. Yeah, we get it, dude -- can't we just eat our peanut butter sandwich in the break room in peace? We don't care about how much damage your Hitmonlee does. That's why the tutorial video on how to cheat using the Pokewalker past the break is such valuable intel for us.

So, we've resorted to doing the unthinkable: we're going to play Pokemon. We're going to play and we're going to level up our pokemans so high, it's going to fog up that jerk's glasses and take the breath right out of his lungs. Soon, he will know true pain as he's squashed beneath the scales of our Magikarp. Embarrassment, thy name will soon be Griffin McElroy!
Some of the more experienced Punch-Out!! players probably know of the trick to defeating Spain's resident matador, Don Flamenco, in the original game. However, in the years between that title and his appearance in the new game, it would seem he has learned nothing. If you want to unlock every character in Street Fighter IV without actually earning them, then you'll want to check out this little video put together by MyCheats Senior Editor Mike Nelson. He shows off just how easy it is to cheaply defeat the computer, without having to put in much effort. In fact, you could probably do this without even being in the room. Thankfully Game Trailers user GhettoChild discovered the cheat codes in Grand Theft Auto IV for everything from restoring health to spawning an Annihilator helicopter. Using the in-game cell phone you dial the phone numbers to activate the code. While we haven't been able to confirm it, we assume using any cheats will no longer allow you to unlock any achievements and based on Rockstar's past with using codes, you may be unable to watch the final cinematic in the game.

Don't say we didn't warn you. The other way is to see what the cheat is so you can totally get people banned for using it in matches against you. The latter is much more fun, because you get to ruin people's fun for real instead of racking up points in a make-believe world. Still, it's entertaining to see, so enjoy.

[via Digg]
New Call of Duty 4 cheat caught on tape originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 09:30:00 EST. We also see a few extremely obvious things regarding Star Bits, which probably are in the instruction manual. While the article takes a broad swipe at the topic, and it's just plain wrong at times -- Easter eggs are "brightly decorated circles or balls ... that [unlock] bonus points, monster-slaying swords, extra lives, or infinite health" -- it covers the evolution of cheats and Easter eggs. These tricks used to be added by programmers as a way to surprise gamers, but they've become co-opted by marketing departments that release the secrets on a schedule to raise interest in a game.

With unlockable content, its transition to a for-pay service bothers us. We don't begrudge publishers the opportunity to change their business model to give gamers more options to buy a game; instead, the trend seems to be selling us the same game more than once. Where are the cheaper games with for-pay content?
The evolution of game extras originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 05 Jan 2007 17:25:00 EST. I'm not too interested in the musings of an illiterate fanboy, but I am totally awe-inspired by the crazy things that people have been doing in GTA:LCS. The cheat devices for GTA have come a long way since the first time PSP Fanboy reported on it. People are now defying all logic, performing gravity-defying tricks, riding on walls, spawning helicopters and even creating trick ramps for those that want Liberty City to be one giant level of Tony Hawk. Here's some of my favorites from the GTA cheats and trick community.
Continue reading Extreme airtime in GTA:LCS

Extreme airtime in GTA:LCS originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 27 Aug 2006 16:10:00 EST. Griefing has always been a problem where real players compete against their peers, although with massively multiplayer online games the problem has become much more serious. Earning a battleship in Eve Online or crafting a special item in World of Warcraft can take weeks if not months of game time. On top of that, the recent trend for people to sell items on auction sites like eBay has meant that rare online items have a monetary value.

The article cites several high profile situations where griefers have bent moral codes with the Guiding Hand Social Club's ruination of Ubiqua Seraph in Eve Online and the funeral crash in WoW being the two main examples. Solutions that companies have come up with to limit these types of situations from happening are also looked at with the Xbox Live points system and strong community measures (like guilds and friend lists) being top on the list of letting players self-govern the problem. Effective community governance is essential if companies want to keep players inside the game and so that the owners don't have to resort to more drastic measures, like Blizzard does with its periodic account banning binges.

Update: fixed a couple of minor grammatical errors.
Griefing and self-governance in online games originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 15 Jun 2006 06:30:00 EST.
