With about four days to go before the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em></a> beta comes to an end, Sony has put out an interesting question to the public: Should it keep the "levels and items" created during the beta and carry those over to the game's launch, or start the whole thing from scratch? It is a question worthy of some discussion.<br /><br />Anyone can vote in the <a href="http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board?board.id=b_EN_GAMES_general_lbp">LBP section of the Official PlayStation Forums</a> before next Monday and Sony will go with whichever choice wins out. Sony is talking specifically about uploaded levels, any "save game data, offline creations or progress cannot be transferred into the full game." So, what's your course of action?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/you-decide-should-littlebigplanet-hit-the-reset-button-after-be/">You decide: Should LittleBigPlanet hit the reset button after beta?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 20:30:00 EST. We ask because, it seems, they use the same amount of energy. <a href="http://www.intology.com/computers-internet/playstation-3-consumes-more-power-than-a-medium-sized-fridge/">According to Australian consumer group Choice</a>, the PS3 consumes more energy than five fridges. Basically, using a fridge costs roughly $50 per year, whereas the PS3 will use $250, even if it's just turned on and not in use. The PS3 also uses ten times as much energy as the Wii, the study shows. <br /><br />It's an interesting study, but who really leaves their PS3 on all year? You've got to keep the fridge on, but the PS3 might not get used at all some days. Take the results with a grain of salt, since it really ought to vary between each individual.<br /><br />[via <a href="http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=143606">PS3Forums</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/06/playstation-3-same-power-usage-as-five-refridgerators/">PlayStation 3: same power usage as five refridgerators</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Jun 2008 01:00:00 EST. Australian consumer website <a href="http://www.choice.com.au/viewArticle.aspx?id=106346&amp;catId=100245&amp;tid=100008&amp;p=5&amp;title=Computers%27+energy+costs">Choice</a> has delivered a fairly comprehensive chart regarding the cost of keeping our favorite electronics plugged in. The chart converts electrical cost into Australian dollars, so unless you live there, it might be more informative to compare the various energy measurements.<br /><br />The Wii is clearly the most energy efficient console currently on the market, which a similar study <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/21/mouse-on-a-mini-bicycle-could-power-nintendos-wii/">established</a> last year. But despite the energy efficiency of all the consoles, we're sure <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/game-consoles-contain-harmful-materials-greenpeace-finds/">Greenpeace</a> still isn't happy with all the chemicals it takes to make our game-playing boxes of joy.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/06/04/now-youre-playing-with-a-device-which-consumes-very-little-po/">Wii Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/04/console-power-consumption-charted-by-aussie-site/">Console power consumption charted by Aussie site</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 04 Jun 2008 18:30:00 EST. We have to make some tough decisions at times, and occasionally, games get left behind. What's your strategy for getting your hands on as many games as possible? Do you do trade-ins or sell used games somewhere, like on Amazon? Do you rely on holiday gift requests to get the games you want the most? Do you rent? Or do you maybe work something out with friends so that you each buy different games (when you can, outside of multiplayer needs) and trade off? The worst option, of course, is going without. Even though we've certainly had moments of that, we still <em>shudder</em> at the very thought of making such agonizing decisions. When you do choose to let a wanted title pass you by, do you try to pick it up later, or just let it go?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/24/ds-daily-the-burden-of-releases/">DS Daily: The burden of releases</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 24 Sep 2007 09:00:00 EST. But ya don't! Back in my day, there was only one dominant system, and we bought all the crappy games that came out for it, and that's the way we liked it, dagnabbit!<br /><br />Now you got all sorts of different systems clogging up your fancy-schmancy entertainment center, and what's worse, publishers are coming out with the same game for all of 'em. The last <em>Madden</em> game came out on <a href="http://www.easports.com/madden07/">11 different systems</a>, for Pete's sake!<br /><br />You might think it's better to have a choice, but it's not! Now <a href="http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/03/19/the-cross-platform-conundrum-which-do-you-chose">ya gotta choose</a> between the fancy graphics on the PS3, the online features on the Xbox 360 and the swishy control scheme of the Wii. Things ain't looking so good now that you got that decision staring you in the face, eh sonny boy?<br /><br />Even the portable versions are getting a second look these days. Back in my day, portable versions knew their place as the neglected, pixelated, black-and-white cousins to their console superiors. Now these upstarts are rivaling or even bettering their rightful console masters. What's the world coming to!<br /><br />Hey, don't walk away while I'm ranting at'chya. I need someone to drive me to the pharmacy to get my pills. Come back here and listen to me tell you how bad things are, consarnit!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/21/the-tyranny-of-cross-platform-choice/">The tyranny of cross-platform choice</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Mar 2007 12:15:00 EST. As such, the library of playable games from launch is actually quite large. But how is one to discern the hidden gems amongst such a vast field? Worry not, fair readers: we're here to help.<br /><br />Let's be fair: you're here reading Nintendo Wii Fanboy, for goodness' sake, so you probably know about absolute wonders such as <em>Super Smash Bros Melee, Metroid Prime, </em>and <em>The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker</em>. These games, of course, must be played under penalty of death. What follows are <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">fifteen</span> fourteen of our personal recommendations, leading you from the AAA-released to barely known wonders of the little purple box. Most of these games can still be found, used, at many outlets nationwide. Take a look, and buy a game! We believe in you.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/05/staff-recommendations-gamecube/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Staff recommendations: Gamecube</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/05/staff-recommendations-gamecube/">Staff recommendations: Gamecube</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 05 Jan 2007 17:00:00 EST. (Hint: the obvious alterations concern <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/29/hdmi-issues-at-gdc-or-simply-no-cable/">high-def output</a> and wireless connectivity -- though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/ps3-pad-loses-dualshock-name-and-vibration-but-picks-up-wii-esqu/">Bluetooth controllers</a> should work just fine with both, with or without any chrome case highlighting.)<br /><br />So what's HDMI, built-in multimedia card-reader slots, wireless internet connectivity, and an extra 40 gigabytes' hard disk space worth to you? $100? Now that Sony's gone with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/03/rumor-roundup-more-than-one-ps3-sku/">the 2-SKU approach</a> with its next-gen hardware (a la the Xbox 360's <em>premium</em> and "Core" systems), we can expect some tough consumer choices after six months -- with console shortages possibly for another six months after that -- as $100 separates the <em>base</em> $499 and <em>premium</em> $599 versions of Sony's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/playstation-3-in-its-final-form/">Clear Black</a>" hope.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/25/hddvd/">HDMI is important</a> to those who want to take full advantage of Blu-ray high def and have the new screens to use it; MemoryStick, SD, and CompactFlash slots would be nice for the PS3 memory-card users and those will run multimedia on the system; Wi-Fi's the only way to avoid stringing ethernet cables for online access; and 360 owners might appreciate the full 60GB available to potential buyers of the <em>premium</em> PS3 model. Neither model comes with a second HDMI port; thankfully, one should hopefully be all most users need. The details are laid out in a feature-comparison table at the end of Sony's official PS3 hardware press release, available in both <a href="http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/060509ae.pdf">Adobe Reader</a> and <a href="http://presscenter.playstation.com/Content/detailslots/1339/PS3%20US%20FINAL%20-%20PS3%20Lttrhead.doc">Microsoft Word</a> formats. Determine what's most important to your PS3 ambitions there.<br /><br />[Image pieced together from <a href="http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&amp;message.id=346633">the PlayStation.com forums</a>; thanks, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/playstation-3-launch-details-emerge-from-e3/#c1479300">Guru</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/cheaper-ps3-loses-hdmi-slots-wi-fi-40gb/">Cheaper PS3 loses HDMI, slots, Wi-Fi, 40GB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 May 2006 03:32:00 EST.
