<a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/binary-tweed">Binary Tweed's</a> Deejay has announced that his game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover-a-curious-tale"><em>Clover: A Curious Tale</em></a>, has received a permanent price cut on Xbox Live Indie Games. Originally 400 MS Points ($5), the title has been discounted to <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Clover-A-Curious-Tale/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802585505fc?cid=search">240 points</a> ($3).<br />
<br />
Having recently been featured as part of a special St. Patrick's Day deal of the week, it's time for Clover to be sent "to roost," Deejay wrote on the <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2011/03/clover-curious-tale-now-240msp.html">Binary Tweed website</a>. "It's never going to do more sales, it's not going to contribute a huge wedge to my income," he noted, "so I might as well make it as cheap as possible so as many players get to experience it." He added that he'd lower the price further, but 240 is the lowest price that can be offered by Indie Games over 50MB in size.<br />
<br />
Deejay hopes to lower the price of the PC version as well, though the logistics of dealing with various download distributors "could be a bit tricky."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/clover-a-curious-tale-gets-permanent-price-drop/">Clover: A Curious Tale gets permanent price drop</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 02:00:00 EST. <strong><br />
</strong>My main aim in setting out writing video games was to try and reinvigorate some of the forgotten genres that I loved so much as a kid. I knew right away I wanted a simple and slightly cheeky tagline, and "New games that are a bit like old games, but better" was the first thing that popped into my head. Long-winded yes, but it gets across character whilst doing exactly what it says on the tin.<br />
<br />
I wouldn't be creating totally new off-the-wall games, so an enigmatic or futuristic name wouldn't do. I might be reinventing old things, but I'm thoroughly fed up of pop culture's obsession with retro. I wanted to avoid anything that suggested pixel art or chip tune music.<br />

Shinji Mikami didn't just have a hand in bringing the <em>Viewtiful Joe</em> and <em>Devil May Cry</em> series to gamers. He also helped create the survival horror genre in 1996 through <em>Resident Evil</em> -- so the dude has a pretty impressive resume. Now, he's working with Platinum Games on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/vanquish"><em>Vanquish</em></a>, the upcoming sci-fi shooter set in a fictional future United States in the grip of a cold war with Russia. <br />
<br />
According to an interview in this week's Famitsu magazine (via <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178387">1UP</a>), Mikami's also working on opening a new independent studio called Tango. His current studio, Straight Story, was formed in 2006 (shortly before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/ex-clover-dev-team-buries-seeds-to-form-platinum-games/">Seeds shut its doors</a> and became Platinum Games) and is currently contracted to work on <em>Vanquish</em> and that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/ea-publishing-new-action-horror-franchise-from-suda51-shinji/">action-horror project</a> with Grasshopper Manufacture. Upon completion of <em>Vanquish</em>, Straight Story will "fold up" and Mikami will focus on the now 13-strong Tango. Mikami wants to see Tango "grow to 100 people or so in five to seven years."<br />
<br />
After <em>Vanquish</em>, Mikami will relocate from his current digs in Osaka to Tokyo, where he hopes to recruit some of the young up-and-comers Japan has to offer. As for Tango's first project, that's still up in the air. "I'd like to make a choice with the rest of the team as we grow our numbers," he said. "I've been speaking with a number of publishers as well, but we haven't signed any contracts yet."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/shinji-mikami-opening-new-tokyo-based-studio-tango/">Shinji Mikami opening new Tokyo-based studio, Tango</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 14:30:00 EST. Presumably doing a little early spring cleaning, the team at Binary Tweed have released the complete soundtrack to its original Xbox Live Indie Game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Clover/"><em>Clover</em></a>. For the low, <em>low</em> price of free, those who download the soundtrack will be treated to a piano assortment composed and recorded by Chris Chillingworth (he's got a <a href="http://www.myspace.com/elevemmusic">MySpace</a>, so he's legit).<br />
<br />
Clover is scheduled to make its PC debut with a new "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/02/xbl-indie-game-clover-picked-up-by-blitz-game-studios-for-pc/">longer, sexier</a>" musical accompaniment on March 3 with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Clover-A-Curious-Tale/"><em>Clover: A Curious Tale</em></a>. Hopefully the new version <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/clover-developer-disappointed-by-poor-sales/">doesn't disappoint</a>. Download the free album <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2010/02/clover-original-soundtrack-available.html">here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/27/original-clover-soundtrack-available-for-free/">Original Clover soundtrack available for free</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 27 Feb 2010 13:00:00 EST. If the Xbox-less among you have been jonesing to try Binary Tweed's independent platform-puzzler <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover"><em>Clover</em></a>, you'll get your chance to play a PC port of the game in the coming weeks. <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2010/02/clover-curious-tale-releasing-3rd-march.html">A press release from the studio</a> has revealed the game will be released "via a range of download services" on March 3. No price point for the game was specified, though the 360 version of the game sells for 400<img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />, so we're guessing it'll be within spitting distance of five bucks -- just to be safe, we've contacted the developer to find out.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/02/xbl-indie-game-clover-picked-up-by-blitz-game-studios-for-pc/">As we've mentioned before</a>, the PC version of the game has seen significant improvements over its Indie Games iteration, including tighter controls, English, French and Spanish dialogue tracks, an expanded soundtrack, and in-game text that <em>doesn't</em> make you want to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/16/dialogue-font-in-clover-pc-no-longer-a-hideous-affront-to-human/">claw out your own eyes</a>. Sounds like this one's the version to get!<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> The game's developer just sent over the game's various international prices -- we're looking at a $9.99 price tag, while other territories will have to shell out &pound;5.99 and &euro;6.99.<br />
<br />
USD 9.99<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/19/new-and-improved-clover-coming-to-pc-on-march-3/">New and improved Clover coming to PC on March 3 (update)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 19 Feb 2010 00:00:00 EST. Sometimes, all it takes to sully a good gaming experience is the implementation of an unattractive font. The merit of your game's well-written dialogue is lost when delivered in italicized, all-caps, 16-point Tahoma Impact -- a lesson recently learned by Binary Tweed, developer of the Xbox Live Indie Game darling <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover"><em>Clover</em></a>. Though the title was chock-full of charm, its dialogue was gruesome enough to sear the eyes right out of your head.<br /> <br /> Fortunately, Tweed has learned its lesson, and <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2009/11/clover-act-improvements-dialogue.html">plans on adding a touch of polish</a> to the dialogue in the game's upcoming PC iteration, <em>Clover: A Curious Tale</em>. Not only will the script be fully voice acted, and the dialogue paired with animated character portraits, but the font used in the game has been significantly gussied up. According to <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/">the developer's blog</a>, it's no longer "a hideous affront to humans with eyes." We're guessing that means your cats will still find it fairly repugnant.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/16/dialogue-font-in-clover-pc-no-longer-a-hideous-affront-to-human/">Dialogue font in Clover PC no longer 'a hideous affront to humans with eyes'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Nov 2009 13:30:00 EST. That's right, Binary Tweed's watercolored Xbox Live Indie Game <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover">Clover</a> </em>is headed to the PC as <em>Clover: A Curious Tale</em>, courtesy of Blitz Game Studios. Developer <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2009/10/clover-curious-tale-signed-to-blitz-1up.html">Binary Tweed</a> reports that the title is destined for digital distribution services and features a host of updates, including (direct from Binary Tweed's site):<br />
<ul>
    <li>New animations - all characters are articulated, clouds move, flames smoke and glow, water splashes, cats snore (!);</li>
    <li>Completely voice-acted dialogue;</li>
    <li>A new sub-quest, and multiple endings;</li>
    <li>New puzzles, characters, and items (25% more items last time I checked);</li>
    <li>New context-sensitive controls - this means no clumsy inventory menu;</li>
    <li>Completely revised user interface;</li>
    <li>Better player handling, and less annoyingly fiddly jumps;</li>
    <li>Translations in French, Italian, German and Spanish;</li>
    <li>Reworked soundtrack - longer, sexier.</li>
</ul>
Hopefully more people will be interested in the title on PC, because <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/clover-developer-disappointed-by-poor-sales/">it didn't do too well on the Xbox 360</a>. We'll let you know on price and on what digital distribution services you can expect to acquire it as soon as it's announced.<br />

Daniel Jones of <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/">Binary Tweed</a>, developer of the Xbox 360 Indie Game <em>Clover</em>, has a few choice things to say about Microsoft's independent games service. Speaking to the UK's <a href="http://www.x360magazine.com/community/indie-game-developers%E2%80%A6well-forget-it/">X360 Magazine</a>, Jones just doesn't see a big enough audience in Indie Games to justify creating a game for it -- Joystiq readers will recall similar comments after <em>Clover</em> sales failed to set the world on fire.<br /><br />"We're seeing even the best-selling Indie Games titles sell in the low five-figure numbers," says Jones, laying the blame on "lack of marketing from us developers, Microsoft, and also on the dirge of massage 'games' that dilute the brand's message." (Don't forget <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/00000001-0000-4000-8000-0000585501d2?partner=MajorNelson">fart games</a>!) He notes that the most popular titles on Indie Games are simple applications like music visualizers and digital aquariums, saying, "The marketing message clearly hasn't gotten to the people that want to play games, and so one has to question if there's any point making games for a service that gamers don't buy from."<br /><br />Jones believes that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/xbox-live-community-games-become-indie-games/">upcoming user ratings feature</a> will help "immeasurably," though he adds, "There's still a lot of work to do in educating LIVE users about [what] Indie Games is about."<br /><br />We're inclined to agree that the Indie Games channel needs a lot of work, especially if Microsoft ever expects it to become more than a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kodu"><em>Kodu</em></a> delivery service.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/08/clover-dev-indie-games-channel-has-a-long-way-to-go/">Clover dev: Indie Games channel has a long way to go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Jul 2009 21:27:00 EST. Developer Binary Tweed has admitted sales of its first Xbox Live Community title <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Clover/">Clover</a></em> have not met expectations. Speaking with <a href="http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/a161787/clover-dev-disappointed-with-sales.html">Digital Spy</a>, Binary Tweed community managing director Daniel Jones said his team "definitely won't recoup costs" from Microsoft's indie games service alone.<br /><br />Despite strong critical reception for the title, Jones says the Xbox Live Community Games market -- being re-branded '<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/11/xbox-live-community-games-become-indie-games/">Indie Games</a>' in July -- is "prohibitively small to be financially viable." According to Jones, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Binary-Tweed/">Binary Tweed</a> may only use the Community Games market as an "an arena for proving concepts" in the future.<br /><br />While <em>Clover</em> has failed to capture much attention from gamers, Jones says having a salable product to showcase to publishers (rather than a demo) has helped open doors for the team's future. "Although I can't talk about specifics at the moment, <em>Clover's</em> critical acclaim has opened doors to Binary Tweed." Jones recommends <em>Clover</em> fans keep an eye on the developer's <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com">official site</a> for news in the coming weeks. We recommend you stop playing with that XBLCG Fart app and <a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550205">check out <em>Clover</em></a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/">Clover</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/24/clover-developer-disappointed-by-poor-sales/">Clover developer disappointed by poor sales</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Jun 2009 16:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover"><em>Clover</em></a> developer <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2009/04/clover-would-be-out-now.html">Binary Tweed</a> has posted an update on the status of the upcoming Community Game. Unfortunately, the game has been delayed for at least another week thanks to a rule in the approval process. The game was submitted for peer review recently, when a small bug was discovered. The bug was quickly fixed by Binary Tweed, but all Community Games are required to wait seven days between peer review submissions. The game will be submitted again this Sunday.<br /><br />To make the wait a tiny bit more bearable, enjoy a new trailer of the game after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/clover-delayed-by-approval-process-new-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Clover delayed by approval process (but releases new trailer)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/30/clover-delayed-by-approval-process-new-trailer/">Clover delayed by approval process (but releases new trailer)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 15:30:00 EST. If you've been holding it in for fear of missing out on <em>Clover</em>'s Community Game debut, do us all a favor and take a bathroom break. The artsy platformer's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/14/binary-tweed-clover-release-imminent/">imminent debut</a> was held back recently by what Binary Tweed's Daniel "Deejay" Jones describes as a pair of "performance bugs," one of which saw load times crawl along for nearly a minute and a half. <em>Oy vey!</em><br /><br />According to the managing director, the issues have since been fixed, and the team is currently making some "last-minute emergency sound fixes" in the road up to the game's "peer review" on Wednesday. Jones recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/joystiq-interview-binary-tweed-talks-clover-file-size-problem/">told Joystiq</a> of his high hopes for the game, and assuming all goes well players will able to judge for themselves when <em>Clover </em>puzzles the marketplace this Friday.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/19/no-seriously-clover-is-coming-soon/">No, seriously, Clover is coming soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 19 Apr 2009 23:00:00 EST. Binary Tweed has <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2009/04/release-imminent.html">announced</a> that its upcoming puzzle platformer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover"><em>Clover</em></a>, could arrive on the Xbox 360 Community Games service very soon. Managing director Daniel "Deejay" Jones notes that the game will hopefully be submitted to peer review over the weekend, meaning it could be available on Xbox Live "as early as next week."<br /><br /><em>Clover</em> garnered some publicity recently when it ran over Microsoft's 150MB size limit for Community Games, forcing the developer to remove features like an unlockable art gallery. In an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/joystiq-interview-binary-tweed-talks-clover-file-size-problem/">interview</a> with Joystiq, Jones stated that he hoped <em>Clover</em> would help convince people that there are worthwhile games on the Community Games service. We suspect he's never heard of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/02/the-guide-community-organizing/"><em>Rocket Fart</em></a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/">Clover</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/14/binary-tweed-clover-release-imminent/">Binary Tweed: Clover release imminent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 12:30:00 EST. Binary Tweed has released some brand new screenshots for its upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/community-games">Community Game</a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/clover"><em>Clover</em></a>. The new screens feature a redesigned version of lead character Sam, who was altered as a result of community feedback. Also featured in the screenshots is a new, dynamic sky-blending system. According to the <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2009/03/clover-new-screenshots.html"><em>Clover </em>website</a>, this system assures that the "player's view of the game world is constantly changing." Regardless of what that means, we're digging the watercolors-meet-<em>South-Park</em> visual style of the game. Check out the screens in the gallery below.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover-3-30-2009/">Clover (3/30/2009)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover-3-30-2009/#1460611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover-3-30-2009/#1460610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover-3-30-2009/#1460609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover-3-30-2009/#1460608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover-3-30-2009/#1460607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/30/pick-some-fresh-clover-screenshots/">Pick some fresh Clover screenshots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 14:00:00 EST. Indie developer Binary Tweed <a href="http://www.binarytweed.com/2009/03/its-too-big-to-fit-in-here.html">revealed</a> that it has hit the Community Games size limit ceiling for its upcoming game, <em><a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/Clover/">Clover</a></em>. First on the strike list? Unlockable art; however, the developer mentions it may "have to make some compromises on the audio side too." Unlike the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/13/xbla-size-limit-no-longer-a-problem-for-sf2hd/">murky</a> <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/10/30/xbla-portal-file-size-exception-not-the-new-rule/">size-limit</a> <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/microsoft-wrestled-with-watchmen-xbla-size-exception/">waters</a> that surround Xbox Live Arcade titles, <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/tag/Community-Games/">Community Games</a> are stuck in a strict 150MB sized pool.<br /><br />We wondered if this meant <span style="font-style: italic;">Clover</span>'s Q1 2009 release would change and where the developer hopes to go once its freshman entry is available to play -- so we asked. Joystiq talked with Binary Tweed's managing director, Daniel "Deejay" Jones, and picked his brain about the recent file size issues, the Community Games platform and how the industry is reacting to the indie game push.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/">Clover</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/joystiq-interview-binary-tweed-talks-clover-file-size-problem/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Interview: Binary Tweed talks 'Clover' file size problems, Community Games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/joystiq-interview-binary-tweed-talks-clover-file-size-problem/">Joystiq Interview: Binary Tweed talks 'Clover' file size problems, Community Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 10:00:00 EST. We know, you can't always judge a book by its cover -- a game by its screens. But "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/braid"><em>Braid</em></a> clone" was the first thing that came to mind when we saw <em>Clover</em>, a forthcoming Xbox Live <strike>Arcade</strike>, no, "Community Games" title. And let's face it, the Community Games channel is still the playpen for the bastard children of Xbox Live. It's like a pet shop window: you glance at it, feel an inkling of "Should I?" and then proceed on down the street to the Arcade.<br /><br />But a closer look at that doggie in the window, <em>Clover,</em> reveals a game worth considering. Developed by indie outlet Binary Tweed Ltd., <em>Clover </em>is, in the words of its British maker, "a plot-driven platformer in the style of classic titles such as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantastic_Dizzy" target="_blank"><em>Fantastic Dizzy</em></a> that sees the player solve logical puzzles by collecting items, talking to a diverse cast of characters and exploring artistically realised environments." It follows Binary Tweed's motto -- "New games that are a bit like old games, but better" -- by injecting modern trends like autosave and the dissolution of lives and health into the game's traditional framework. Still, <em>Clover</em> promises to be very much about <em>death,</em> as the orphaned player must deal with the sudden demise of the in-game mother and the larger political themes at play. A heady romp for a mere 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5) when <em>Clover</em> releases in Q1 2009 (that's soon!).<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/">Clover</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-9_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/clover/#1460607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/03/clover-090330-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/a-poor-mans-braid-clover-on-xbox-live/">A poor man's Braid: Clover on Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 14:57:00 EST. To make up for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/what-the-did-ign-sneak-onto-my-okami-boxart/">unsightly blemish</a> on the covers that came with the game (sorry, IGN), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a> offered a selection of replacement art ranging from "the real cover, but IGN-free" to completely new, unconventional box designs, and we all got to pick one. <br /><br />We've had to wait a bit, but it turns out that we'll get <em>all</em> of them! According to Capcom's Colin Ferris, "Each cover sheet features the cleaned cover art on one side, and the two different new designs on the other." The covers are now on their way out, ready to adorn those copies of <em>Okami</em> that you forgot about or traded in.<br /><br />If you <em>didn't</em> order a replacement cover, perhaps because you didn't yet own <em>Okami</em> and are an honest person, you can still find the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/print-your-own-okami-boxart-ign-watermark-optional/">high-quality images</a> available for printing.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/okami-replacement-covers-shipping-with-bonus/">Okami replacement covers shipping with bonus!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Aug 2008 11:51:00 EST. <br />
We've already established that having the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/atlus">Atlus</a> name on the front of a box is usually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/20/ds-daily-the-atlus-effect/">A Very Good Thing</a>, and look! Somebody at Amazon must clearly have been listening to us, as the uber-retailer has the following Atlus-published titles up for sale:<br />
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00139U8QI/102-5777777-4084119?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B00139U8QI"><em>Rondo of Swords</em></a> -- $19.99</li>

That's not all -- while we were scrounging though Amazon's bargain basement section, we found a couple of other potentially worthy additions to your DS library:
<ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-45496737702-Children-of-Mana/dp/B000FW4OHS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&amp;s=videogames&amp;qid=1215539742&amp;sr=1-6"><em>Children of Mana</em></a> -- $20.09</li>

</ul>
You can also get <em>Ping Pals</em> for $4.29. But like that deserves a functioning link.<br />

In a Q&amp;A session with <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6191265.html">Gamespot</a>, the folks at Sega detailed some of their plans and expectations for the recently announced four-game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/sega-announces-platinum-games-partnership-first-three-games/">publishing deal</a> with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/platinum-games">Platinum Games</a>. The agreement, which grants Sega exclusive rights to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/platinum-games-madworld-eyes-on-first-screens/"><em>Mad World</em></a> (Wii), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/platinum-games-introduces-bayonetta/"><em>Bayonetta</em></a> (PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360), <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/infinite-line-rpg-announced-for-ds/"><em>Infinite Line</em></a> (DS) and a mystery title from <em>Resident Evil</em> designer, Shinji Mikami, was officially announced during a special event last week.<br /><br />"The guys at Platinum are just at the top of their game right now, and what they've delivered is so clearly AAA in every way, when they started to show us product, we had to have it," said Sega of America president, Simon Jeffery. When asked about the marketing challenges inherent in starting up three (possibly four) new IPs, Jeffery notes that Sega is in it for the long run. "What we've seen today is the starting point, but all of those games--Bayonetta, Madworld, Infinite Line--won't be one-offs," he explained. "They're all uniquely different enough from everything in their space to build complete franchises out of. The whole foundation of PlatinumGames is built around that long-term strategy."<br /><br />Though talk of franchises this early in a game's life would normally elicit concern, the ex-Clover talent at Platinum Games could certainly do with the commercial success to match their critical acclaim. Y'know, aside from the <em>Devil May Cry</em> and <em>Resident Evil</em> guys.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/sega-talks-platinum-games-deal-franchises/">Sega talks Platinum Games deal, franchises</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 May 2008 19:30:00 EST. We <em>hope</em> Sega made a good decision when they decided to publish <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/sega-partners-with-platinumgames-reveals-first-madworld-shots/">Platinum Games' works</a>. Both Sega and Platinum (or Clover, really) are companies who make great games, but have had serious problems recently. We would like to see two of our favorite game companies succeed together.<br /><br />Gamespot spoke to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Sega/">Sega</a> of America president Simon Jeffery and VP of marketing Sean Ratcliffe about the deal and what drew Sega to Platinum. Jeffery believes that Capcom's Japan-focused marketing and organization contributed to the Western failure of Clover's products, and that because Sega runs a very Western-oriented organization outside of Japan, Sega can more effectively market Platinum's games.<br /><br />A few interesting details about the deal came up, as well. This publishing agreement isn't just game-by-game -- Sega is Platinum's exclusive publisher for some unspecified period. Sega also holds the IP rights for the new games.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/sega-on-the-platinum-games-deal/">Sega on the Platinum Games deal</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 May 2008 15:00:00 EST. To our delight, Sega just sent forth a press release confirming the partnership, along with the first two shots of PlatinumGames' Wii debut, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/mad-world-to-make-violence-cheerful-again/"><em>MADWORLD</em></a>.<br /><br />Described as a game that "straddles graphic novels and 3D worlds," <em>MADWORLD</em> looks every bit as stunning as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/its-a-mad-world-of-leaked-video-from-platinum-games/">early video footage</a> had suggested. It's set for release during Q1, 2009, and promises weapons that range from chainsaws to street signs, irreverent humor, and <em>sports commentary</em> to accompany the slaughtering.<br /><br />Finally, there's a fourth title that Sega is keeping under wraps for now -- all we know is that it's being directed by Shinji Mikami, whose resume includes the first three <em>Gyakuten Saiban</em> games, <em>God Hand</em>, <em>Killer 7</em>, <em>Resident Evil 4</em>, and <em>Viewtiful Joe</em>.<br /><br />
<br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/sega-partners-with-platinumgames-reveals-first-madworld-shots/">Sega partners with PlatinumGames, reveals first MADWORLD shots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 15 May 2008 13:15:00 EST. <br />
Are you sick to the back teeth of violence being <em>so goddamn depressing</em>? If so, Platinum Games, the developers formerly known as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover">Clover</a>, are right with you! In the latest edition of <em>Famitsu</em>, Platinum director Shigenori Nishikawa has declared that "cheerful violence" and "curb brawler" will be the themes of the company's first Wii title, <em>Mad World</em>. Echoes of <em>God Hand</em>, perhaps?<br />
<br />
<em>Mad World</em> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/its-a-mad-world-of-leaked-video-from-platinum-games/">unveiled</a> yesterday through a shaky, grainy and <em>spectacularly bloody</em> video. Sporting heavily stylized black-and-white visuals, the only color to be found in the game was in the fountains of blood that regularly filled the screen. According to <em>Famitsu</em>, ultra-violence is very much the name of the game, which stars a troubled protagonist dedicated to committing his ultimate slaughter.<br />
<br />
If you missed the footage (it was constantly being removed from video sharing sites), go past the break to catch up, and see how having a road sign lodged through one's face doesn't have to be a miserable affair.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/mad-world-to-make-violence-cheerful-again/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mad World to make violence cheerful again</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/mad-world-to-make-violence-cheerful-again/">Mad World to make violence cheerful again</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 May 2008 11:45:00 EST. Yesterday, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/">DS Fanboy</a> reported on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/12/rumor-sega-publishing-platinum-games-title-for-ds/">rumor</a> that Platinum Games, the company started by ex-Clover Studio members (and Capcom luminaries) Atsushi Inaba, Hideki Kamiya, and Shinji Mikami), was partnering with Sega for new games to be released on the Wii and the DS. This video of <em>Mad World</em> is not <em>technically</em> confirmation since it could be a total fake, but it sure looks real -- and it <em>sure</em> is getting taken down from Youtube and Gametrailers with alarming speed.<br />
<br />
<em>Mad World</em> is a bloody, futuristic action game that looks (from the blurry video) more like a brawler than the kind of operatic sword maneuvering we know from <em>Devil May Cry</em>. We hate to mention it <em>again</em> (because we always do when talking about Clover), but it evokes a futuristic, <em>really bloody</em> <em>God Hand.</em> <br />
<br />
It looks like we were wrong about one of the rumors, by the way: <em>Bayonetta</em> is a PS3 game (if any of this is real), and not a Wii game.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/its-a-mad-world-of-leaked-video-from-platinum-games/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>It's a Mad World of leaked video from Platinum Games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/13/its-a-mad-world-of-leaked-video-from-platinum-games/">It's a Mad World of leaked video from Platinum Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 May 2008 13:15:00 EST. Poor <em>Okami</em> for the Wii. You just can't seem to get good press, whether it be through <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/okami-advertisement-pokes-fun-at-itself/">your hilarious advertising</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/what-the-did-ign-sneak-onto-my-okami-boxart/"><em>more</em> hilarious boxart</a> (at least we got <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/capcom-fixes-the-okami-boxart-goof-awesomely/">a pretty neat fix</a>, though!) Now, the game's director, Hideki Kamiya, is upset that Clover's contributions to the game were cut from the Wii title's ending credits.<br /><br />Trust us, we're not trying to poke fun, because, and we'll be complete honest here, we want to have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/13/clover-studio-goes-six-feet-under/">Clover Studio's</a> babies. We loved those guys and every project they had their hands on. And, even if it's a Wii port, we think him and other Clover staff members that worked on the game should be credited. Capcom doesn't think so, however.<br /><br />Since the end credits were all one movie (which had the Clover logo at the end of it), Capcom decided to pull the entire credits. They claim that they had no access to the original source file for the logo, so they couldn't just pull that. If you ask us, that sauce is kind of weak, because in this day and age, the ability to quickly transfer information between parties is widely known and Capcom could've easily picked up a phone and called whomever they needed to. Also, there's, uh, e-mail.<br /><br />If you want to see the original ending credits, cruise past the break.<br /><br />
<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/the-okami-goofs-continue-clover-contributions-pulled-from-wii-port-end-credits/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Okami goofs continue: Clover contributions pulled from Wii port end credits</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/the-okami-goofs-continue-clover-contributions-pulled-from-wii-port-end-credits/">The Okami goofs continue: Clover contributions pulled from Wii port end credits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 May 2008 20:00:00 EST. In order to share the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/capcom-fixes-the-okami-boxart-goof-awesomely/">replacement <em>Okami</em> boxarts</a> with people outside the U.S. (to whom they can't ship the printed copies), Capcom has made the boxarts available as PDF downloads, in a big, take-it-to-Kinko's resolution. Capcom's one-time blunder is becoming more of a boon to fans every day.<br /><br />We checked the new version of the original design for IGN watermarks, and didn't see one. That means that you can place the IGN watermark <em>wherever you'd like! You</em> now have the power to choose the size, location, and opacity of the IGN logo on your <em>Okami</em> boxart. For that matter, you could use <em>any watermark you like!</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/print-your-own-okami-boxart-ign-watermark-optional/">Print your own Okami boxart, IGN watermark optional</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 19:00:00 EST. Apparently IGN is <em>the place to go </em>for high-resolution <em>Okami</em> artwork. BradyGames' <em>Okami</em> strategy guide is <em>also</em> marred by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/20/what-the-did-ign-sneak-onto-my-okami-boxart/">IGN branding</a> -- but a <em>different logo</em>, and in a <em>different place.</em> At first, we thought this was a windup from a tricky Kotaku commenter -- then we looked at the cover on the Brady Games website. Not only does the little D-pad-esque IGN logo appear next to Amaterasu's mouth, this watermark <em>also</em> features "IGN," and you can <em>just</em> see the ".COM" at the end there. <br /><br />Okay, so the Kotaku commenter is absolved -- now we kind of think this must be a joke on the part of the person who made the preview image for Brady's website. If not, we can look forward to some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/24/capcom-fixes-the-okami-boxart-goof-awesomely/">decorative slipcovers</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/384537/youve-got-ign-watermarks-on-my-okami-strategy-guide">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/okami-guide-also-ignd/">Okami guide also IGN'd?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. Ready at Dawn's highly-anticipated Wii port of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/20/gdc08-okami-on-wii-looks-great-in-480p/"><em>Okami</em></a> has been delayed from its original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/updated-wii-release-list-dispels-no-games-rumblings/">March 25th</a> release date to April 15th. Gamespot, who received confirmation of the delay from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Capcom/">Capcom</a>, conjectures that some of Ready at Dawn's resources were shifted to expedite the release of the PSP <em>God of War</em> game.<br /><br />It could also be the case that Wii game publishers are quickly backing out of their March release dates, waiting out the coming Wii <a href="http://nintendowiifanboy.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl">megaton</a> instead of sending their games out to die. It's probably good strategy, although people who don't like fighting games are going to feel pretty unloved.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/okami-keeps-us-hungry-like-the-wolf-for-three-more-weeks/">Okami keeps us hungry like the wolf for three more weeks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 12:00:00 EST. Contrary to what has <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/no-frills-to-be-found-in-okamis-wii-port/">previously been stated</a>, the Nintendo Wii port of <em>Okami</em> will have some extra frills. A <a href="http://shop.capcom.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayPage&amp;Env=BASE&amp;Locale=en_US&amp;SiteID=capcomus&amp;id=ProductDetailsPage&amp;productID=98778800#">listing on Capcom's website</a> reveals that Clover Studio's masterpiece will now support widescreen (16:9) and 480p progressive scan support. That should give you more than enough reason to finally splurge on some Wii component cables.<br />
<br />
Developer Ready at Dawn, who is responsible for the port, had previously said the game would be an "exact port" with only Wii remote support added during brush stroke moments. While this isn't new content, the technical improvement is a welcome addition to this visually stunning title. <em>Okam-Wii</em> (not an official title) is due out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/okami-wii-ports-for-duty-on-march-25/">March 25</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/15/okami-wii-shines-with-new-widescreen-progressive-scan-support/">Okami Wii shines with new widescreen, progressive scan support</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Feb 2008 08:45:00 EST. According to his report, preview copies of the game are being sent to media outlets this week, so it won't be long before we hear hands-on impressions for the PS2-to-Wii port!<br /><br />While Christian warns gamers not to expect any new content or a special edition release, he makes sure to remind us why we wanted the game brought to the the Wii in the first place: "It takes about 10 minutes to get used to using the Wii drawing, but once you do, it's effortless and fast as compared to the PS2 version. The act of physically drawing also has an amazing feel to it and really changes the pace/feel of the game."<br /><br />As if that wasn't enough to sell the game to anxious fans of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ARPG/">ARPG</a>, he went on to add, "We have reasonable but modest expectations for the title ... If it happens to "destroy" said expectations, I'd definitely think hard about new content." It's a difficult promise to keep considering the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/13/clover-studio-goes-six-feet-under/">current status</a> of developer Clover, but stranger things have happened!<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendic.com/news/1819">Nintendic</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/capcom-brags-up-okamis-wii-controls-teases-at-follow-up/">Capcom brags up Okami's Wii controls, teases at follow-up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2008 19:00:00 EST. In an effort to <strike>bait Nintendo fans</strike> generate interest in Ready at Dawn's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/16/how-okami-got-to-the-wii/"><em>Okami</em></a> port, CVG has posted an article suggesting that <em>Okami</em> is a better Wii-ported 3D action-adventure game than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/04/the-abridged-legend-of-zelda-twilight-princess/"><em>Zelda: Twilight Princess</em></a>. For mostly superficial reasons. <br /><br />Specifically, the swirling, watercolor-like art style, exploding with color in every screen. CVG's contention is that simply <em>exploring</em> the world of <em>Okami</em> is more fun than the "mature" brown Hyrule in part because it's more interesting to look at. In addition, the paintbrush interaction with the world (and its inhabitants) makes Nippon more engaging than Hyrule.<br /><br />They break their comparisons down into a five-point list of aspects like "Support" (Midna vs. Issun) and "Main Character" (hilarious description: "<span class="text_article_body"> No contest. Ameratsu has a mischievous charm betraying her position as a goddess. Link just rolls around shouting 'Huh?'</span>") and in the end <em>Okami</em> just barely wins this arbitrary game by one point. But before you get all huffy about somebody saying that something is better in some way than <em>Zelda</em>: the point isn't <em>exactly</em> that someone considers <em>Okami</em> better than <em>Twilight Princess.</em> That such a comparison is even conceivable is a sincere testament to <em>Okami'</em>s undeniable quality.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.omgnintendo.com/article/59973/is-okami-twilight-princess/">OMGNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/06/did-okami-out-zelda-twilight-princess/">Did Okami out-Zelda Twilight Princess?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Feb 2008 09:45:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/13/clover-studio-goes-six-feet-under">closing of Clover</a> was very sad, but eventually <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/15/clover-bosses-start-seeds-blogger-strains-to-resist-botany-meta/">led to SEEDS</a> and, now, Platinum Games. So, just what interests Inuba and co. lately?<br /><br />Why, the DS and Wii, of course. When asked by 1UP on which platforms were desirable launching pads for a new title, Inaba said "Of course the Wii and DS are attractive platforms; they're platforms that aren't competing by way of the graphics. It's more about the gameplay." We couldn't agree more, because playing is believing with the Wii. Immediate releases from Platinum Games might not be on the horizon, however, as Inaba stated "we do want to create games on Wii and DS. But we have staff that has been creating games on the newest technology, like the PS3 and Xbox 360, so we are not interested in cutting that out."<br /><br />But, this interview is supposedly a bit late hitting the net, so there's also that to consider.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=34576">Go Nintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/31/atsushi-inaba-wants-to-work-with-nintendo-platforms/">Atsushi Inaba wants to work with Nintendo platforms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Jan 2008 19:00:00 EST. "YEEEeeeees!!!"<br /><br />We couldn't agree more with Shinji Mikami's <a href="http://platinumgames-blog.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2008/01/5_20ef.html">recent exclamation</a> on his blog, where he announced that work had finally begun on a new, untitled project. The blog entry (translated by <a href="http://uk.games.ign.com/articles/848/848241p1.html">IGN</a>) explains that the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ResidentEvil/">Resident Evil</a></em> creator has managed to assemble a development team for his first endeavor under the Platinum Games banner. Though he says that more staff will be required to complete the game, we don't expect the lack of creative talent will pose much of a problem considering the company he's keeping at the studio.<br /><br />Mikami, eventually joined by <em>Viewtiful Joe</em>'s Atsushi Inaba and <em>Devil May Cry</em>'s Hideki Kamiya, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/12/capcom-squashes-clover-lights-out-for-bright-studio/">departed</a> Capcom in 2006 to form a new company, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/15/former-clover-members-start-up-new-studio/">Seeds</a>. According to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/updated-wii-release-list-dispels-no-games-rumblings/">latest schedule</a>, the game is still set to appear in the U.S. on March 25th.<br /><br />It's not the first time this has happened with one of Capcom's Wii releases -- Europe may have had only ten days to wait for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident%20evil%204/"><em>Resident Evil 4</em></a>, but <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/05/european-gamers-forced-to-wait-before-questing-for-barbaros-tre/"><em>Zack &amp; Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure</em></a> took its sweet time getting here, and only launched last week. Then again, the Wii hardly sells in Europe, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/newsflash-many-people-own-wiis/">does it</a>?<br /><br />Aussies, it's not confirmed, but recent history suggests you might be in the same boat. Can you feel the love? <em>Can you?</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/europe-to-wait-for-okami-reckons-insider/">Europe to wait for Okami, reckons insider</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 21:00:00 EST. If you were hoping that the recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/ready-at-dawn-raises-sun-on-okam-wii/">Wii version</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Okami/">Okami</a></em> would lure you back into its beautiful world with new environments, bosses, weapons and <em>so forth</em>, you're about to have your somewhat optimistic viewpoint obscured by one Didier Malenfant. In an <a href="http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/828/828620p1.html">interview with IGN</a>, the president of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Ready%20At%20Dawn">Ready At Dawn</a> explains that <em>Okam-Wii</em> (see what we did there?) will be an "exact port of the PS2 version," save for the magical brush strokes which will now correspond to motions of the Wiimote. Malenfant argues that messing with the game in any form would simply draw ire from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/clover">Clover</a> devotees.<br /><br />Strangely, the same crowd is currently <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/10/23/okami-wii-an-exact-port-of-ps2-game/">wagging</a> their fingers at Ready At Dawn for failing to pretty up the port in some way. While Malenfant's reasoning may appear to hide some reticence to retool, one has to consider that the game in question tanked on the platform with the largest install base. The Wii version isn't aimed at gamers who bought and enjoyed <em>Okami</em> -- it's aimed at the millions of <strike>idiots</strike> people who didn't. If anything, we think Clover's masterpiece would be better served by having some of <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/10/19/late-request-to-game-developers-please-cut-okami-wii/">that bloat excised</a>. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/10/23/okami-wii-an-exact-port-of-ps2-game/">Wii Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/no-frills-to-be-found-in-okamis-wii-port/">No frills to be found in Okami's Wii port</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Oct 2007 19:00:00 EST. Yes, it's true: Capcom answers prayers. At least, when those prayers concern porting their games to other consoles. They've made a lot of Nintendo fans happy by announcing a Wii version of their underappreciated, underselling PS2 game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/18/get-your-brush-ready-okamis-on-the-way/"><em>Okami</em></a>. But, to <em>us</em> at least, they've picked the wrong <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clover_Studio">Clover Studio</a> game. Don't get us wrong-- we think <em>Okami</em> is great, and we'll be happy to play it on WIi-- but in Clover Studio's short lifespan they produced one <em>absolutely perfect</em> game, and it's not about a wolf.<br /><br />It's about a <em>dude,</em> and his <em>arm.</em> We'd <em>love</em> to see someone take a crack at messing with <em><a href="http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/godhand/godhand.htm">God Hand</a>'s </em>controls for a Wii game; we've got the real thing, after all, so if it didn't work out, we could just <em>not buy it</em>. But today's discussion isn't just about how <em>amazingly</em> awesome <em>God Hand</em> is, though we <em>really</em> wouldn't mind if that's where the discussion went. We want to know which Clover game you'd rather play on the Wii: any of the <em>Viewtiful Joe </em>games, <em>Okami</em> (which kind of wins by default) or <em>God Hand.</em> And if that's too limiting, feel free to branch out and consider <em>any</em> Capcom releases of the last couple of generations!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/20/wii-warm-up-my-style-is-impetuous/">Wii Warm Up: My style is impetuous</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 20 Oct 2007 10:30:00 EST. Shortly after producing the strikingly beautiful <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Okami/">Okami</a></em> and relentlessly challenging <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GodHand/">God Hand</a></em>, Capcom's Clover Studios was duly rewarded with cold commercial apathy and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/12/capcom-squashes-clover-lights-out-for-bright-studio/">prompt liquidation</a>. In February, the studio's lead designer trifecta -- <em>Viewtiful Joe</em>'s Atsushi Inaba, <em>Resident Evil</em>'s Shinji Mikami and <em>Devil May Cry</em>'s Hideki Kamiya -- formed a new studio, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/15/former-clover-members-start-up-new-studio/">Seeds</a>, and began the process of hiring new employees. <br /><br />Just over seven months later, it appears that Seeds will wither before producing even a single game. The company's <a href="http://www.seeds-inc.jp/">recruitment website</a> now states that Seeds will undergo a merger with a company called "ODD," resulting in a change of name to "Platinum Games" as of October 1st. No upcoming projects are mentioned, though one would hope that the new title becomes reflective of the success that's eluded Clover for so long.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://games.ign.com/articles/823/823339p1.html">IGN</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/27/ex-clover-dev-team-buries-seeds-to-form-platinum-games/">Ex-Clover dev team buries 'Seeds' to form 'Platinum Games'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 27 Sep 2007 17:00:00 EST. Just when you thought it was safe to stop <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/20/capcom-clover-and-a-little-wii-name-dropping/">hoping for an <em>Okami</em> port</a> on the Wii, the rumors are back. But is Link's most recent adventure also <em>beautiful</em>? <em>Okami</em>'s Director, Hideki Kamiya, was in Tokyo last week to pick up an Entertainment Award (for his work on <em>Okami</em>, natch) at the 10th Media Arts Festival, which is an event held annually by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. (And that must have felt good, after Capcom's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/28/capcom-snubbed-by-aias-awards/">no-show at the AIAS awards</a>.)<br /><br />Kamiya was asked how he felt about Nintendo's <em>Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess</em>, and he explained: "To be frank, I was disappointed when I saw [<em>Twilight Princess</em>'] visuals. I'm a <em>Zelda</em> freak -- it's no overstatement to say that I created <em>Okami</em> because of <em>Zelda</em>.
